NEW YORK — Philip Roth, one of the world’s eminent men of letters, is apparently confused about the meaning of the word “retirement.” All it took to upend his latest farewell was an invitation from Stephen Colbert. Comedy Central spokesman Steve Albani told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the celebrated novelist has agreed to an “extended interview” in July for the cOlbert Book Club. The 81-year-old Roth has more
than once announced he has given his last interview and over the past two weeks has insisted he’s done with making public appearances. One promise to quit has been kept: He hasn’t released a new book since 2010. Known for such works as “Portnoy’s Complaint” and the Pulitzer Prize-winning “American Pastoral,” Roth has rarely appeared on television and Colbert may not seem the most obvious candidate to lure him to the small screen. But the comedian and heir to David Letterman on CBS’
“Late Show” is widely respected in the literary community. He has been among the most popular speakers at BookExpo America, publishing’s annual national convention, and his many author interviews include a hilarious talk with Maurice Sendak that aired in 2012. Colbert’s book club, the name spelled with an Oprah-esque capital O, has included segments on Ernest Hemingway and J.D. Salinger. According to Albani, the entire episode will be dedicated to Roth, whom he called an “iconic author.”

LOS ANGELES — Big-voiced rocker Caleb Johnson is the season 13 “American Idol,” winning the title over teenage pop singer Jena Irene. “This is crazy,” Johnson said after host Ryan Seacrest announced the TV audience’s decision on Wednesday’s season finale of the Fox contest. Johnson, 23, of Asheville, North Carolina, and Irene, 17, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, told each other “you da bomb” before the result was revealed. Runner-up Irene is getting a consolation prize: The two competitors and friends are set to attend her high school prom, Seacrest said. Seacrest did not announce the number of votes cast, as was routine when the show drew huge audiences and impressive vote tallies. “American Idol,” which long reigned as TV’s top-rated show, now is a moderately successful, top 20 performer.
Johnson’s win came on the strength of his renditions Tuesday of “Dream On,” ‘’Maybe I’m Amazed” and “As Long as You Love Me,” intended as his first single. Irene sang “Dog Days Are Over,” ‘’Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “We Are One.” He is to receive a recording contract as this season’s champion. The Traffic Affairs Division Head, Badung Transportation, Communications and Informatics Agency, Tofan Priyanto, revealed that most passing vehicles in Badung were concentrated in the South Badung. The North Badung
area just served as crossings. From the survey conducted in South Badung including in Kuta, North Kuta and South Kuta subdistrict, each road section was traversed by more than 4,000 vehicles per hour. Meanwhile, the capacity of
roads in South Badung, mainly the county road, only had the capacity of 3,000-4,000 vehicles. “From the results of survey in the area of South Badung, we found the ratio vision or capacity volume has exceeded 0.6. It means if it has approached critical points of a jam. Even, some road sections in Kuta have ratio vision having reached 0.8 to 1. In other words, the road is gridlocked where vehicles cannot move because the volume of vehicles is equal to the road capac-
ity,” he said. In order to deal with congestion in South Badung, the Badung Transportation, Communications and Informatics Agency implemented the traffic management. It included three aspects, namely capacity management, priorities and demand. In the study on the capacity management aspect, Badung government restricted the use of the road body as a parking space that could increase the capacity of the road. In addition, whenever possible
it could be resolved with road widening. Meanwhile, in terms of management priority, his party continued to optimize the utilization of mass transit such as the Trans Sarbagita bus and optimizing the operation of the feeder vehicles. As for the aspect of demand management, the agency restricted the entry of vehicles into Kuta area such as bus with the length of more than 7 meters and freight vehicle with tonnage of more than 5 tons. BANGLI - In response to condition of Penelokan tourist attractions having been transformed into roadside market, the Regent of Bangli, Made Gianyar, claimed to be working on to build a market. However, so far the intention to restructure the tourist attraction was hampered by the absence of land that could be used to relocate the traders. “In the future, his party is going to build a market, but still waiting. We still request the land to the Ministry of Forestry,” said Made Gianyar, the Regent of Bangli, when met on Monday (May 19). Gianyar said the land requested was still in the Penelokan area, right behind the kiosk being under development process. The land requested to the Ministry of Forestry spread across the area of 0.40 hectare of forest land. “We are still waiting for the Ministry of Forestry,” he said. As reported all this time, since the second phase construction project of the Batur Volcano Museum in September, the Bangli government provided temporary policies for traders who originally sold around the museum to sell in the Penelokan area while preparing a decent place to relocate them. Unfortunately, so far the government was unable to prepare the land intended. As a result, the famous area with the panoramic mountain scenery had already left the shabby and chaotic impression. The rundown condition of the tourist attraction was not just highlighted by tourism observers. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

A quick guide to this season’s swim looks: PATTERNS, PRINTS, COLORS: Look for bold, solid colors as opposed to pastels or jewel tones. “Definitely more vibrant,” says Marissa Rubin, People StyleWatch’s senior market editor. Also: Black and white, graphic details and writing or words, global prints and metallics in silvers, bronze, pewter and gold. “It looks really great on bronze skin, the metallics really pop,” Rubin said. SPORTY STYLES: Fashion designers are looking to athletic brands for inspiration, Rubin said. Specifically: Zippers, mesh inserts or cut outs, neoprene material and rash-guard influences. VERSATILE COVER UPS: Traditional covers ups are making way for multi-use garments, like jersey dresses that can go from “pool to barbecue or pool to picnic or out at night,” Rubin said. Other options: Shirt dresses or oversized men’s button down shirts, caftans and tunics that hit mid-thigh or at the knee. RETURN OF THE ONE PIECE: Sales of one-piece swimsuits have gone up. Data from market research group NPD show one-piece sales increasing 15 percent from the April 2012-to-March 2013 period to the
April 2013-to-March 2014 period. One-piece sales netted $819.6 million during 2013-2014 range compared with $783.9 million for two piece swimsuits, which saw a 9 percent loss. “The one-piece has the ability to be able to contour one’s figure in a better way,” said Marshal Cohen, NPD’s chief retail analyst. MIX AND MATCH: Women are increasingly buying a basic swim bottom that fits well and pairing it with multiple tops in different lengths and patterns. NPD data show sales of $550.5 million for swimwear tops from April 2013-toMarch 2014 compared with $368.7 million for bottoms. “Women aren’t concerned as much anymore about having a complete matchy-matchy outfit,” Cohen said. “It’s perfectly OK to buy a $9 top and put it with a $20 bottom.” OVERALL SALES: The women’s swimwear market totaled $2.9 billion in sales from April 2013-to-March 2014, according to NPD. That’s up slightly from $2.8 billion during the 2012-2013 period. Cover ups saw a 7 percent increase in sales from the April 2012-to-March 2013 period to the April 2013-to-March 2014 period.

Thus, we see how the development of the tourism industry as a whole and we can perform the proper promotion to get the best, not only for travelers but also for the Balinese themselves,” he said. The proper management of tourism according to Sastrawan was to reduce inequality in society and reduce negative impacts to prepare facilities without damaging the existing facilities. “The growth of tourism in Bali is good, especially with the Balinese culture that does not exist anywhere else. This is what needs to be maintained,” he said. Management of tourism was inseparable from the modern tourism management, but it needed thinking that modern management was able to maintain the appeal of Bali in terms of culture without destroying it so that it remains unique and becomes the main attraction. “It is the duty of academicians to think about it,” said Sastrawan. HONG KONG — U.S. fashion retailer J. Crew opened two stores in Hong Kong on Wednesday, marking the company’s return to Asia after it pulled out of Japan six years ago. J. Crew is the latest Western brand to set up in the city notorious for high rents as it explores future expansion in the lucrative China market. The company, known for being one of Michelle Obama’s favorite brands, opened a 3,250 square foot (302 square meters) women’s store in an upscale shopping mall in Hong Kong’s financial district. It also opened a 2,800 square foot men’s store several blocks away. The company’s Asia expansion is a part of a wider push to grow internationally and comes after it pulled out of Japan in 2008, where a local partner operated shops under license. The company plans to open up to six stores in Hong Kong in the next
five to six years. It opened three in the U.K. last year and is looking next at Paris, CEO Mickey Drexler said. Drexler said the company would “eventually” expand into China although it has no specific plans yet and is still studying the market. Head of Public Relations of Bali Provincial Administration I Ketut Teneng noted here on Thursday that the shipping volume of the traded goods however fell 70.16 percent from 2.34 million units to only 700,146 units, thereby indicating that the price of statue and handicraft per unit was more expensive. “Export of statues made from padas stone contributed 1.94 percent to Bali’s total export value of US$132.96 million,” stated Ketut Teneng. Balinese handicrafts and statues were exported mainly to the United States of America (29.51 percent), France (7.33 percent), and Australia (6.95 percent). They were also exported to some countries, such as Germany (6.39 percent), Singapore (4.43 percent), Japan (4.26 percent), Netherlands (3.84 percent), Spain (3.53 percent), Italy (0.96 percent), and Hong Kong (0.06 percent). Statues and handicrafts made from padas stone are mostly produced by the residents of Silakarang Village, Ubud Sub-district, and Batubulan of Gianyar District, Bali. Being alone, we invite her to my home but she did not want to,” he said. He also thanked those who had helped his relative. Bantat hoped he could take better care of his relative, so as not to look abandoned. “Hopefully, after so many people came to her, she would be willing to be treated at home. I do not want her to be brought to nursing home,” he said. Previously, Nengah Monong was reported not to live as fortunately as her neighbors. At her old age, this grandmother was living in poverty and paralysis condition. More seriously, in the inhabitable old building, Nengah Monong lived alone and looked to be abandoned. BEIJING — Assailants in two SUVs plowed through shoppers while setting off explosives on a busy street market in China’s volatile northwestern region of Xinjiang on Thursday, the local officials said, killing 31 people and injuring more than 90. The attack in the city of Urumqi was the bloodiest in a series of violent incidents that Chinese authorities have blamed on radical separatists from the country’s Muslim Uighur minority. The Xinjiang regional government said in a statement that the early morning attack was “a serious violent terrorist incident of a particularly vile nature.” The two vehicles crashed through barriers at 7:50 a.m., drove right into the crowds while setting off explosives, the statement said. The SUVs then crashed head-on and one of them exploded, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. It quoted an eyewitness as saying there were up to a dozen blasts in all. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the attack. Recent violence has been blamed
on extremists seeking to overthrow Chinese rule in the region, which is home to the native Turkic-speaking Uighurs (pronounced WEE’-gurs) but has seen large inflows from China’s ethnic Han majority in recent decades. The death toll was the highest for a violent incident in Xinjiang since dayslong riots in Urumqi in 2009 between Uighurs and Hans left almost 200 people dead. Thursday’s attack also was the bloodiest single act of violence in Xinjiang in recent history. “I heard four or five explosions. I was very scared. President Park Geun-hye nominated Ahn Dai-hee, a former Supreme Court justice, to replace the current prime minister, who has offered to quit over the ferry sinking, presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook said in a statement. Park’s nomination requires approval by the legislature. Park’s government has faced rising public anger over the April 16 sinking, which left more than 300 people dead or missing. Most of the victims were students from a high school near Seoul. About five weeks after the disaster, 288 bodies have been retrieved and 16 others are missing. Fed mulls options for raising interest rates Agence France-Presse
WASHINGTON - US Federal Reserve policy makers have begun focusing on how to manage monetary policy as they move toward raising interest rates next year and ending their six-year-old crisis stance. The minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) April 29-30 meeting showed Wednesday the policy makers launching into how they should prepare the ground for lifting the benchmark federal funds rate from near zero, expected in mid-2015. “The committee’s discussion of this topic was undertaken as part of prudent planning and did not imply that normalization would necessarily begin sometime soon,”
the minutes said. “Because the Federal Reserve has not previously tightened the stance of policy while holding a large balance sheet, most participants judged that the committee should consider a range of options and be prepared to adjust the mix of its policy tools as warranted.” Fed officials discussed several approaches to policy when they raise short-term interest rates, but
decided further study was needed. Among the policy tools they looked were a fixed-rate overnight reverse repo facility, the sale and repurchase of securities, and the term deposit facility, which offers banks an interest rate on deposits, helping the Fed mop up excess bank reserves. The Fed’s key federal funds rate has been between zero and 0.25 percent since December 2008, part of the central bank’s unprecedented loose monetary policy aimed at helping the economy recover from the severe 2008-2009 recession. The FOMC officials also looked at “controlling” the level of short-
term interest rates once they rise, “during a period when the Federal Reserve will have a very large balance sheet” resulting from massive asset purchases to tamp down longterm interest rates. The Fed’s balance sheet has swollen to $4.3 trillion. In December, the FOMC decided to begin tapering the $85 billion a month quantitative-easing program. At the April meeting, tapered by $10 billion for the fourth time, taking QE to $45 billion in May. The minutes showed the FOMC policy makers generally saw little change in the outlook for the gradually recovering economy since their
March 18-19 meeting. After a sluggish first quarter, blamed in part on unusually severe winter weather, there were signs of stronger growth suggesting the economy “had returned to a trajectory of moderate growth.” Policy makers expected that, with appropriate monetary policy support, economic activity would expand at a “moderate pace” and labor market conditions would continue to “improve gradually.” They continued to view the risks to the outlook for the economy, as well as the labor market, where unemployment remains high, as nearly balanced.

Policymakers also dropped the word “deflation” from their postmeeting statement, after unanimously agreeing to keep the central bank’s stimulus drive unchanged following a two-day meeting. The BoJ said its moves to boost laggard growth were taking hold as Japan’s economy staged a “moderate recovery” even though consumer spending dropped after sales taxes rose on April 1 -- a rise seen as crucial to cutting the massive national debt. Last month the BoJ cut its economic growth expectations for the fiscal year to March, which boosted speculation it would expand its monetary easing campaign to counter a tax-driven downturn. On Wednesday BoJ governor Haruhiko Kuroda repeated that he was still ready to take further measures but gave no signal they were imminent. The impact of the sales tax rise -- Japan’s first in 17 years -- had been no worse than expected, while the BoJ’s stimulus drive was “hav-
ing the effect it was designed to have”, Kuroda added. “Our view is that individual consumption will remain fundamentally solid with an improvement in employment and income conditions,” the BoJ chief told reporters. “The impact of the rush demand ahead of the consumption tax hike will diminish after summer,” he added. Kuroda sidestepped questions about whether the omission of “deflation” from the post-meeting statement indicated that Japan had emerged from a 15-year cycle of falling prices that held back the economy. “The statement today did not make any particular reference on that matter,” he said, adding that we “haven’t changed the substance” of our view. The bank’s upbeat assessment “suggests that the introduction of additional monetary easing as soon as July, which has been the consensus expectation for some time, is off the table”, said Marcel Thieliant from Capital Economics. The bank’s stimulus, similar to the US Federal Reserve’s assetbuying plan known as quantitative easing, aims to inject massive sums of money into the financial system to spur growth and reach

would certainly be rising though many residents of Denpasar returned home to celebrate the feast. However, the amount of waste was ascertained to go up because the waste of ritual means increased quite a lot. He said the pattern of handling the
sanitation during the feast remained the same as it had been applied previously. The officers were still working on the feast but in overtime status. “The janitor is not on day-off, but they still perform their tasks as usual but their schedule is set in such a way. For those getting morning shift are expected to say prayers in the afternoon, while those getting night shift will perform morning prayers,” said Wisada. According to him, this pattern was applied considering the volume of waste in the city of Denpasar increased sharply during
holidays. On weekdays, it reached 2,500-2,700 cubic meters per day, during holidays such as Galungan it increased to 3,000 cubic meters per day. “In essence, we always alert the janitors starting from Penampahan Galungan to Umanis Galungan. We do not want the garbage scatter during holidays,” he said. Ketut Adi Wiguna added the officers alerted included the janitors and transportation staff. Currently, the Denpasar Sanitation and Landscaping Agency was supported by 375 transport officers, 350 janitors and 60 units of garbage trucks. “Actually there are
62 trucks but two units are still under construction,” said Adi Wiguna. Related to the rubbish along Sanur Beach, Adi Wiguna said that within the past few days the volume of marine debris would be already decreasing. Since it was a natural phenomenon and difficult to predict, his party still remained to alert janitors. “This marine debris is unpredictable when it comes, so the team formed by the DKP will remain to be alerted. DENPASAR - Implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 is around the corner. As an international tourist destination, Bali is predicted to be an easy target of market product from a number of countries. Even, for the matter of pork, Bali is feared to be invaded by pork products from Vietnam and Thailand. This concern was delivered by Chairman of the Indonesian Pig Breeders Association (GUPBI) of Bali, Ketut Hari Suyasa, in Denpasar. “So far, Thailand and Vietnam have surplus pork production and they exported it to several countries. It is not impossible when the AEC 2015 is opened, Bali became an easy target of pork products from the two
countries,” said Hari Suyasa. Further he said that Vietnam and Thailand pig breeders were capable of reducing the cost of production to minimal so the pork price could be cheaper than that of in Indonesia, especially Bali. With such condition, Bali would be flooded with quality pork products from the two countries at a cheaper price of course. As consequence, it would be a serious threat to local pig farmers in Bali. “When pork from Thailand and Vietnam invades Bali, our breeders can lose competitiveness and be a spectator,” he said. Such conditions could not certainly be underestimated because it could be a serious threat to the existence of local pig breeders. Moreover, raising pigs in Bali was not only an economic activity to look for profit, but
also a part of cultural activities as raising pigs had been inherited from generation to generation. On the other hand, the pork needs of Balinese people was relatively high, especially pork demand and consumption increased ahead of the feast because pork was also one of the means used in the ritual. “So the government should give alignments on local pig farmers because to prevent the pork product from ASEAN countries coming into Bali is impossible,” he said. The GUPBI hoped that government should pay attention to farm pigs by launching a program taking side with local pig farmers and how government developed the Bali cattle ranch. For example, there was capital aid to pig breeder groups, assistance in the form of subsidized feed in order to
reduce the production cost, marketing assistance and how to provide facilities so that there was some sorts of meat processing (pork processing) in order to increase economic value. “All this time, the pig breeders are made very confused with the expensive price of feed. As a result, the production cost is high and price of pork is getting more expensive but the profit gained by breeders is very little. If the government can help subsidize their feed or make their own feed mill and the feed is then subsidized to breeders, it will be great, including if there is a meat processing. Prayuth Chan-ocha said in a statement broadcast on national television that the commission which imposed martial law Tuesday would now take control of the country’s administration. “It is necessary for the Peace and Order Maintaining Command — which includes army, navy, armed forces and police — to take control of governing the country,” Prayuth said, flanked by the heads of the armed forces. The pivotal development came after Prayuth declared martial law on Tuesday in what he called a bid to resolve the crisis and a day later summoned the country’s rival political leaders for face-to-face talks. Two days of talks failed to break the impasse. Shortly before the announcement was made, armed soldiers in military vehicles surrounded the military facility where the politicians were meeting, apparently to block those inside from leaving. Many of the country’s highestprofile figures were summoned for the meeting. They included the acting prime minister — who sent four Cabinet ministers in his place — and
anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, as well as Suthep’s rival from the pro-government Red Shirt group, Jatuporn Prompan. Reporters at the meeting said Suthep and Jatuporn were escorted out of the meeting by soldiers. A government official, Paradorn Pattanathabutr, contacted shortly after the announcement said that the four ministers attending the meeting were still being held by the military. “The rest of us who are outside are still fine and in the safe places. However, the situation is very worrying. We have to monitor it closely and don’t know what else can happen,” he said. BLAHODATNE, Ukraine — At least 11 Ukrainian troops were killed and about 30 others were wounded Thursday when pro-Russian insurgents attacked a military checkpoint, the deadliest raid in weeks of fighting in eastern Ukraine. The attack came three days before the country’s presidential vote. AP journalists saw 11 bodies scattered around the checkpoint on the edge of the village of Blahodatne, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) south of the city of Donetsk. Witnesses said that more than 30 Ukrainian troops were wounded when the insurgents attacked the checkpoint, and some of them were in grave condition. Three charred Ukrainian armored infantry vehicles, their turrets blown away by powerful explosions, and several burned trucks stood at the site of the combat. A military helicopter landed on the site, carrying officials who inspected the area. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry confirmed the attack, but wouldn’t comment on casualties. There was no report of casualties on the insurgent side. In the town of Horlivka, a rebel commander claimed responsibility for the raid and produced an array of weapons they said they had seized. “We destroyed a checkpoint of the fascist Ukrainian army deployed on the land the Donetsk Republic,” said the commander, who wore a balaclava and identified himself by his nom de guerre, “Bes,” Russian for “demon.” “The weapons you see here have been taken from the dead, they are trophies,” he said, showing several dozen items, including automatic and sniper rifles, rocket grenade launchers and bulletproof vests carefully laid out in the courtyard in the Horlivka city police headquarters occupied by the rebels. “People living in western Ukraine: Think about where you are sending your brothers, fathers and sons, and why you need any of this,” the commander said. JAKARTA - Indonesian lawyers said Wednesday they have filed a lawsuit aimed at hauling an ex-general running for president before a rights court over the abduction of student activists. Prabowo Subianto, a former commander of the army’s notorious special forces, will face Joko Widodo in the race to become leader of the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation on July 9, with Widodo seen as the favourite. Allegations of human rights abuses by Subianto have come into sharp focus in recent weeks. He has previously admitted
to ordering the kidnap of several activists in the months before a student movement toppled the three-decade Suharto dictatorship in 1998. Subianto was sacked from his position in the military over those abductions. Then, the activities of local farmers in Bali like plowing a paddy field by cows, rice farming, seeking eels and fish can still be done here. Here the soil of paddy fields is so fertile, while on the edge sits an old house and a large parking area.

Bartoli, who announced she was retiring shortly after winning Wimbledon last year, played in 13 consecutive French Opens but mostly it was a tale of woe until a run to the semi-finals in 2011 where she lost to Francesca Schiavone. During the 2011 Gold Cup, five Mexico players tested positive for clenbuterol, a muscle-building drug. The Mexican Football Federation eventually cleared the players of dop-

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is to have surgery on his knee on Thursday morning, just over three weeks before the start of the World Cup, according to local media reports. Suarez helped Uruguay to fourth place at the last World Cup in South Africa four years ago and was expected to play a key role in the country’s campaign at the June 12-July 13 tournament in Brazil. According to a report on the website of Uruguayan TV station Tenfield, the 27-year-old Liverpool striker had an MRI scan on Wednesday which revealed damage to the meniscus in the knee with the team doctor deciding surgery was necessary. Recovery from such arthroscopic surgery takes from 15 to 20 days, according to the report, leaving Suarez little room for manoeuvre before Uruguay play their first match against Costa Rica in Fortaleza on June 14. Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is to have surgery on his knee on Thursday morning, just over three weeks before the start of the World Cup, according to local media reports. Suarez helped Uruguay to fourth place at the last World Cup in South Africa four years ago and was expected to play a key role in the country’s campaign at the June 12-July 13 tournament in Brazil. According to a report on the website of Uruguayan TV station Tenfield, the 27-year-old Liverpool striker had an MRI scan on Wednesday which revealed damage to the meniscus in the knee with the team doctor deciding surgery was necessary. Recovery from such arthroscopic surgery takes from 15 to 20 days, according to the report, leaving Suarez little room for manoeuvre before Uruguay play their first match against Costa Rica in Fortaleza on June 14. LONDON - Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli will enjoy the French Open from the safety of a television commentary box this year, free from the pressure loaded on the shoulders of the home brigade. Bartoli, who announced she was retiring shortly after winning Wimbledon last year, played in 13 consecutive French Opens but mostly it was a tale of woe until a run to the semi-finals in 2011 where she lost to Francesca Schiavone. No Frenchman has won the men’s singles since Yannick Noah in 1983 and he remains his country’s only male grand slam champion in the professional era. The women have performed better with Mary Pierce winning the French Open in 2000, five years after winning the Australian Open. Amelie Mauresmo won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006 but never appeared to enjoy playing at Roland Garros. Bartoli claimed the Wimbledon title last year but failed to last beyond the second round nine times in 13 attempts in Paris. “I’m looking very much forward to seeing how the French players are reacting to
the pressure, how they feel,” Bartoli, who will work as a pundit for British channel ITV and also host a morning slot on Eurosport, told Reuters. BANGKOK — Thailand’s army chief announced a military takeover of the government Thursday, saying the coup was necessary to restore stability and order after six months of political deadlock and turmoil. Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha said in a statement broadcast on national television that the commission which imposed martial law Tuesday would now take control of the country’s administration. “It is necessary for the Peace and Order Maintaining Command — which includes army, navy, armed forces and police — to take control of governing the country,” Prayuth said, flanked by the heads of the armed forces. The pivotal development came after Prayuth declared martial law on Tuesday in what he called a bid to resolve the crisis and a day later summoned the country’s rival political leaders for face-to-face talks. Two days of talks failed to break the impasse. Shortly before the announcement was made, armed soldiers in military vehicles surrounded the military facility where the politicians were meeting, apparently to block those inside from leaving. Many of the country’s highestprofile figures were summoned for the meeting. They included the acting prime minister — who sent four Cabinet ministers in his place — and
anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, as well as Suthep’s rival from the pro-government Red Shirt group, Jatuporn Prompan. Reporters at the meeting said Suthep and Jatuporn were escorted out of the meeting by soldiers. A government official, Paradorn Pattanathabutr, contacted shortly after the announcement said that the four ministers attending the meeting were still being held by the military. “The rest of us who are outside are still fine and in the safe places. However, the situation is very worrying. We have to monitor it closely and don’t know what else can happen,” he said. Thailand has been gripped by bouts of political instability for more than seven years. The latest round of unrest started in November, when demonstrators took to the streets to try to force Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to step down. They accused her of being a proxy for her
popular billionaire brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a 2006 military coup and now lives in self-imposed exile to avoid a jail sentence on a corruption conviction. BLAHODATNE, Ukraine — At least 11 Ukrainian troops were killed and about 30 others were wounded Thursday when pro-Russian insurgents attacked a military checkpoint, the deadliest raid in weeks of fighting in eastern Ukraine. The attack came three days before the country’s presidential vote. AP journalists saw 11 bodies scattered around the checkpoint on the edge of the village of Blahodatne, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) south of the city of Donetsk. Witnesses said that more than 30 Ukrainian troops were wounded when the insurgents attacked the checkpoint, and some of them were in grave condition. Three charred Ukrainian armored infantry vehicles, their turrets blown away by powerful explosions, and several burned trucks stood at the site of the combat. A military helicopter landed on the site, carrying officials who inspected the area. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry confirmed the attack, but wouldn’t comment on casualties. There was no report of casualties on the insurgent side. In the town of Horlivka, a rebel commander claimed responsibility for the raid and produced an array of weapons they said they had seized. “We destroyed a checkpoint of the fascist Ukrainian army deployed on the land the Donetsk Republic,” said the commander, who wore a balaclava and identified himself by his nom de guerre, “Bes,” Russian for “demon.” “The weapons you see here have been taken from the dead, they are trophies,” he said, showing several dozen items, including automatic and sniper rifles, rocket grenade launchers and bulletproof vests carefully laid out in the courtyard in the Horlivka city police headquarters occupied by the rebels. “People living in western Ukraine: Think about where you are sending your brothers, fathers and sons, and why you need any of this,” the commander said. JAKARTA - Indonesian lawyers said Wednesday they have filed a lawsuit aimed at hauling an ex-general running for president before a rights court over the abduction of student activists. Prabowo Subianto, a former commander of the army’s notorious special forces, will face Joko Widodo in the race to become leader of the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation on July 9, with Widodo seen as the favourite. Allegations of human rights abuses by Subianto have come into sharp focus in recent weeks. He has previously admitted
to ordering the kidnap of several activists in the months before a student movement toppled the three-decade Suharto dictatorship in 1998. Subianto was sacked from his position in the military over those abductions. But he has never faced a civilian court and denies any involvement in the high-profile disappearances of 13 other activists, who were abducted around
the same time and have never been found. The suit was filed Tuesday at a court in the capital Jakarta, the same day Subianto officially registered his candidacy for the presidential polls at the election commission, where activists protested and called the former general a “murderer”. JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will interrogate 12 witnesses in an alleged corruption case involving Sutan Bhatoegana (SB), the chairman of the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission VII in charge of energy and mineral resources. “The 12 witnesses will be questioned in the corruption case involving SB,” Chairman of the KPK’s news and information department Priharsa Nugraha stated on Thursday. Fed mulls options for raising interest rates Agence France-Presse
WASHINGTON - US Federal Reserve policy makers have begun focusing on how to manage monetary policy as they move toward raising interest rates next year and ending their six-year-old crisis stance. The minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) April 29-30 meeting showed Wednesday the policy makers launching into how they should prepare the ground for lifting the benchmark federal funds rate from near zero, expected in mid-2015. “The committee’s discussion of this topic was undertaken as part of prudent planning and did not imply that normalization would necessarily begin sometime soon,”
the minutes said. “Because the Federal Reserve has not previously tightened the stance of policy while holding a large balance sheet, most participants judged that the committee should consider a range of options and be prepared to adjust the mix of its policy tools as warranted.” Fed officials discussed several approaches to policy when they raise short-term interest rates, but
decided further study was needed. Among the policy tools they looked were a fixed-rate overnight reverse repo facility, the sale and repurchase of securities, and the term deposit facility, which offers banks an interest rate on deposits, helping the Fed mop up excess bank reserves. The Fed’s key federal funds rate has been between zero and 0.25 percent since December 2008, part of the central bank’s unprecedented loose monetary policy aimed at helping the economy recover from the severe 2008-2009 recession. The FOMC officials also looked at “controlling” the level of short-
term interest rates once they rise, “during a period when the Federal Reserve will have a very large balance sheet” resulting from massive asset purchases to tamp down longterm interest rates. The Fed’s balance sheet has swollen to $4.3 trillion. In December, the FOMC decided to begin tapering the $85 billion a month quantitative-easing program. At the April meeting, tapered by $10 billion for the fourth time, taking QE to $45 billion in May. The minutes showed the FOMC policy makers generally saw little change in the outlook for the gradually recovering economy since their
March 18-19 meeting. After a sluggish first quarter, blamed in part on unusually severe winter weather, there were signs of stronger growth suggesting the economy “had returned to a trajectory of moderate growth.” Policy makers expected that, with appropriate monetary policy support, economic activity would expand at a “moderate pace” and labor market conditions would continue to “improve gradually.” They continued to view the risks to the outlook for the economy, as well as the labor market, where unemployment remains high, as nearly balanced.

The BoJ said its moves to boost laggard growth were taking hold as Japan’s economy staged a “moderate recovery” even though consumer spending dropped after sales taxes rose on April 1 -- a rise seen as crucial to cutting the massive national debt. Last month the BoJ cut its economic growth expectations for the fiscal year to March, which boosted speculation it would expand its monetary easing campaign to counter a tax-driven downturn. On Wednesday BoJ governor Haruhiko Kuroda repeated that he was still ready to take further measures but gave no signal they were imminent. The impact of the sales tax rise -- Japan’s first in 17 years -- had been no worse than expected, while the BoJ’s stimulus drive was “hav-
ing the effect it was designed to have”, Kuroda added. “Our view is that individual consumption will remain fundamentally solid with an improvement in employment and income conditions,” the BoJ chief told reporters. “The impact of the rush demand ahead of the consumption tax hike will diminish after summer,” he added. Kuroda sidestepped questions about whether the omission of “deflation” from the post-meeting statement indicated that Japan had emerged from a 15-year cycle of falling prices that held back the economy. “The statement today did not make any particular reference on that matter,” he said, adding that we “haven’t changed the substance” of our view. The bank’s upbeat assessment “suggests that the introduction of additional monetary easing as soon as July, which has been the consensus expectation for some time, is off the table”, said Marcel Thieliant from Capital Economics. The bank’s stimulus, similar to the US Federal Reserve’s assetbuying plan known as quantitative easing, aims to inject massive sums of money into the financial system to spur growth and reach

The officers were still working on the feast but in overtime status. “The janitor is not on day-off, but they still perform their tasks as usual but their schedule is set in such a way. For those getting morning shift are expected to say prayers in the afternoon, while those getting night shift will perform morning prayers,” said Wisada. According to him, this pattern was applied considering the volume of waste in the city of Denpasar increased sharply during
holidays. On weekdays, it reached 2,500-2,700 cubic meters per day, during holidays such as Galungan it increased to 3,000 cubic meters per day. “In essence, we always alert the janitors starting from Penampahan Galungan to Umanis Galungan. We do not want the garbage scatter during holidays,” he said. Ketut Adi Wiguna added the officers alerted included the janitors and transportation staff. Currently, the Denpasar Sanitation and Landscaping Agency was supported by 375 transport officers, 350 janitors and 60 units of garbage trucks. “Actually there are
62 trucks but two units are still under construction,” said Adi Wiguna. Related to the rubbish along Sanur Beach, Adi Wiguna said that within the past few days the volume of marine debris would be already decreasing. Since it was a natural phenomenon and difficult to predict, his party still remained to alert janitors. “This marine debris is unpredictable when it comes, so the team formed by the DKP will remain to be alerted. DENPASAR - Implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 is around the corner. As an international tourist destination, Bali is predicted to be an easy target of market product from a number of countries. Even, for the matter of pork, Bali is feared to be invaded by pork products from Vietnam and Thailand. This concern was delivered by Chairman of the Indonesian Pig Breeders Association (GUPBI) of Bali, Ketut Hari Suyasa, in Denpasar. “So far, Thailand and Vietnam have surplus pork production and they exported it to several countries. It is not impossible when the AEC 2015 is opened, Bali became an easy target of pork products from the two
countries,” said Hari Suyasa. Further he said that Vietnam and Thailand pig breeders were capable of reducing the cost of production to minimal so the pork price could be cheaper than that of in Indonesia, especially Bali. With such condition, Bali would be flooded with quality pork products from the two countries at a cheaper price of course. As consequence, it would be a serious threat to local pig farmers in Bali. “When pork from Thailand and Vietnam invades Bali, our breeders can lose competitiveness and be a spectator,” he said. Such conditions could not certainly be underestimated because it could be a serious threat to the existence of local pig breeders. Moreover, raising pigs in Bali was not only an economic activity to look for profit, but
also a part of cultural activities as raising pigs had been inherited from generation to generation. On the other hand, the pork needs of Balinese people was relatively high, especially pork demand and consumption increased ahead of the feast because pork was also one of the means used in the ritual. “So the government should give alignments on local pig farmers because to prevent the pork product from ASEAN countries coming into Bali is impossible,” he said. The GUPBI hoped that government should pay attention to farm pigs by launching a program taking side with local pig farmers and how government developed the Bali cattle ranch. For example, there was capital aid to pig breeder groups, assistance in the form of subsidized feed in order to
reduce the production cost, marketing assistance and how to provide facilities so that there was some sorts of meat processing (pork processing) in order to increase economic value. “All this time, the pig breeders are made very confused with the expensive price of feed. As a result, the production cost is high and price of pork is getting more expensive but the profit gained by breeders is very little. If the government can help subsidize their feed or make their own feed mill and the feed is then subsidized to breeders, it will be great, including if there is a meat processing. This will excite people to raise pigs and not to consider it a side job but a promising main job,” said Hari Suyasa. (wid)

fuel of speedboat often operating on the lake. “Fears of the pollution are indeed caused by speedboats while waiting for passengers that wanted to take photos of the scenic forest,” he said. Related to such condition, the Ministry of Environment
in accordance with the existing schedule would resume a further investigation after the implementation of Galungan fest. He hoped the water level of the lake would remain normal without pollution. Moreover, the Lake Beratan was included in the second priority of coaching by the Ministry of Environment. basic food and cash aid to one of the social patients at Losan hamlet, Takmung village, Banjarangkan subdistrict, Nengah Monong, 80. BEIJING — Assailants in two SUVs plowed through shoppers while setting off explosives on a busy street market in China’s volatile northwestern region of Xinjiang on Thursday, the local officials said, killing 31 people and injuring more than 90. The attack in the city of Urumqi was the bloodiest in a series of violent incidents that Chinese authorities have blamed on radical separatists from the country’s Muslim Uighur minority. The Xinjiang regional government said in a statement that the early morning attack was “a serious violent terrorist incident of a particularly vile nature.” The two vehicles crashed through barriers at 7:50 a.m., drove right into the crowds while setting off explosives, the statement said. The SUVs then crashed head-on and one of them exploded, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. It quoted an eyewitness as saying there were up to a dozen blasts in all. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the attack. Recent violence has been blamed
on extremists seeking to overthrow Chinese rule in the region, which is home to the native Turkic-speaking Uighurs (pronounced WEE’-gurs) but has seen large inflows from China’s ethnic Han majority in recent decades. The death toll was the highest for a violent incident in Xinjiang since dayslong riots in Urumqi in 2009 between Uighurs and Hans left almost 200 people dead. Thursday’s attack also was the bloodiest single act of violence in Xinjiang in recent history. “I heard four or five explosions. I was very scared. I saw three or four people lying on the ground,” Fang Shaoying, the owner of a small supermarket near the scene of the attack, told The Associated Press by phone. Photos from the scene posted to

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea’s president on Thursday nominated a new prime minister and accepted the resignations of two senior officials, the beginning of a shake-up that follows widespread criticism of the government’s handling of last month’s ferry disaster. President Park Geun-hye nominated Ahn Dai-hee, a former Supreme Court justice, to replace the current prime minister, who has offered to quit over the ferry sinking, presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook said in a statement. Park’s nomination requires approval by the legislature. Park’s government has faced rising public anger over the April 16 sinking, which left more than 300 people dead or missing. Most of the victims were students from a high school near Seoul. About five weeks after the disaster, 288 bodies have been retrieved and 16 others are missing. Park has said she will push to disband the coast guard, restructure some government offices and establish two new state agencies in efforts to restore public confidence and better cope with future disasters. Her government reshuffling
plans need endorsement from the 288-member single-chamber National Assembly, where her ruling conservative party has a majority status with 149 seats. MIX AND MATCH: Women are increasingly buying a basic swim bottom that fits well and pairing it with multiple tops in different lengths and patterns. NPD data show sales of $550.5 million for swimwear tops from April 2013-toMarch 2014 compared with $368.7 million for bottoms. “Women aren’t concerned as much anymore about having a complete matchy-matchy outfit,” Cohen said. “It’s perfectly OK to buy a $9 top and put it with a $20 bottom.” OVERALL SALES: The women’s swimwear market totaled $2.9 billion in sales from April 2013-to-March 2014, according to NPD. HONG KONG — U.S. fashion retailer J. Crew opened two stores in Hong Kong on Wednesday, marking the company’s return to Asia after it pulled out of Japan six years ago. J. Crew is the latest Western brand to set up in the city notorious for high rents as it explores future expansion in the lucrative China market. The company, known for being one of Michelle Obama’s favorite brands, opened a 3,250 square foot (302 square meters) women’s store in an upscale shopping mall in Hong Kong’s financial district. It also opened a 2,800 square foot men’s store several blocks away. The company’s Asia expansion is a part of a wider push to grow internationally and comes after it pulled out of Japan in 2008, where a local partner operated shops under license. The company plans to open up to six stores in Hong Kong in the next
five to six years. It opened three in the U.K. last year and is looking next at Paris, CEO Mickey Drexler said. Drexler said the company would “eventually” expand into China although it has no specific plans yet and is still studying the market. The company joins a host of other international retail brands that have opened recently in Hong Kong as a stepping stone to China, including Abercrombie & Fitch, Tommy Bahama, Forever 21, Victoria’s Secret and Britain’s Topshop. Hong Kong is a popular shopping destination for mainland China’s newly affluent because of low taxes and reputation for authentic products. “I think there’s certainly a call for our merchandise” in China, Drexler said. “I think we’d most likely go to Shanghai first,” he said. The company is adding a women’s size triple-0 to accommodate smaller Asian figures, Drexler said.

DENPASAR - The export value of statues and various handicrafts made from padas stone in the first quarter of 2014 increased 48.22 percent as compared to the corresponding period last year, from US$1.73 million to US$2.57 million. Head of Public Relations of Bali Provincial Administration I Ketut Teneng noted here on Thursday that the shipping volume of the traded goods however fell 70.16 percent from 2.34 million units to only 700,146 units, thereby indicating that the price of statue and handicraft per unit was more expensive. “Export of statues made from padas stone contributed 1.94 percent to Bali’s total export value of US$132.96 million,” stated Ketut Teneng. Balinese handicrafts and statues were exported mainly to the United States of America (29.51 percent), France (7.33 percent), and Australia (6.95 percent). They were also exported to some countries, such as Germany (6.39 percent), Singapore (4.43 percent), Japan (4.26 percent), Netherlands (3.84 percent), Spain (3.53 percent), Italy (0.96 percent), and Hong Kong (0.06 percent). Statues and handicrafts made from padas stone are mostly produced by the residents of Silakarang Village, Ubud Sub-district, and Batubulan of Gianyar District, Bali. The art and craftsmanship were inherited from the older generations, and the younger generation in the region is still preserving it well, Ketut Teneng remarked.

BANGLI - In response to condition of Penelokan tourist attractions having been transformed into roadside market, the Regent of Bangli, Made Gianyar, claimed to be working on to build a market. However, so far the intention to restructure the tourist attraction was hampered by the absence of land that could be used to relocate the traders. “In the future, his party is going to build a market, but still waiting. We still request the land to the Ministry of Forestry,” said Made Gianyar, the Regent of Bangli, when met on Monday (May 19). Gianyar said the land requested was still in the Penelokan area, right behind the kiosk being under development process. The land requested to the Ministry of Forestry spread across the area of 0.40 hectare of forest land. “We are still waiting for the Ministry of Forestry,” he said. As reported all this time, since the second phase construction project of the Batur Volcano Museum in September, the Bangli government provided temporary policies for traders who originally sold around the museum to sell in the Penelokan area while preparing a decent place to relocate them. Unfortunately, so far the government was unable to prepare the land intended. As a result, the famous area with the panoramic mountain scenery had already left the shabby and chaotic impression. The rundown condition of the tourist attraction was not just highlighted by tourism observers. Even, the rundown of Penelokan due to plastic waste often scattering had became a trending topic in social networking such as Facebook. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

NEW YORK — Philip Roth, one of the world’s eminent men of letters, is apparently confused about the meaning of the word “retirement.” All it took to upend his latest farewell was an invitation from Stephen Colbert. Comedy Central spokesman Steve Albani told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the celebrated novelist has agreed to an “extended interview” in July for the cOlbert Book Club. The 81-year-old Roth has more
than once announced he has given his last interview and over the past two weeks has insisted he’s done with making public appearances. One promise to quit has been kept: He hasn’t released a new book since 2010. Known for such works as “Portnoy’s Complaint” and the Pulitzer Prize-winning “American Pastoral,” Roth has rarely appeared on television and Colbert may not seem the most obvious candidate to lure him to the small screen. But the comedian and heir to David Letterman on CBS’
“Late Show” is widely respected in the literary community. He has been among the most popular speakers at BookExpo America, publishing’s annual national convention, and his many author interviews include a hilarious talk with Maurice Sendak that aired in 2012. Colbert’s book club, the name spelled with an Oprah-esque capital O, has included segments on Ernest Hemingway and J.D. Salinger. Johnson, 23, of Asheville, North Carolina, and Irene, 17, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, told each other “you da bomb” before the result was revealed. Runner-up Irene is getting a consolation prize: The two competitors and friends are set to attend her high school prom, Seacrest said. Seacrest did not announce the number of votes cast, as was routine when the show drew huge audiences and impressive vote tallies. “American Idol,” which long reigned as TV’s top-rated show, now is a moderately successful, top 20 performer.
Johnson’s win came on the strength of his renditions Tuesday of “Dream On,” ‘’Maybe I’m Amazed” and “As Long as You Love Me,” intended as his first single. The Traffic Affairs Division Head, Badung Transportation, Communications and Informatics Agency, Tofan Priyanto, revealed that most passing vehicles in Badung were concentrated in the South Badung. The North Badung
area just served as crossings. From the survey conducted in South Badung including in Kuta, North Kuta and South Kuta subdistrict, each road section was traversed by more than 4,000 vehicles per hour. Meanwhile, the capacity of
roads in South Badung, mainly the county road, only had the capacity of 3,000-4,000 vehicles. “From the results of survey in the area of South Badung, we found the ratio vision or capacity volume has exceeded 0.6. It means if it has approached critical points of a jam. Even, some road sections in Kuta have ratio vision having reached 0.8 to 1. In other words, the road is gridlocked where vehicles cannot move because the volume of vehicles is equal to the road capac-
ity,” he said. In order to deal with congestion in South Badung, the Badung Transportation, Communications and Informatics Agency implemented the traffic management. It included three aspects, namely capacity management, priorities and demand. In the study on the capacity management aspect, Badung government restricted the use of the road body as a parking space that could increase the capacity of the road. In addition, whenever possible
it could be resolved with road widening. Meanwhile, in terms of management priority, his party continued to optimize the utilization of mass transit such as the Trans Sarbagita bus and optimizing the operation of the feeder vehicles. As for the aspect of demand management, the agency restricted the entry of vehicles into Kuta area such as bus with the length of more than 7 meters and freight vehicle with tonnage of more than 5 tons.
