Swedish singer Zara Larsson seeks to build U.S. fan base
NEW YORK - Swedish pop star Zara Larsson may have racked up more than 1 billion streams on music service Spotify within a few days of her new album’s release, but the 19-yearold knows she still has some work to do in the United States. Her second album, “So Good,” came out on Friday. It is the first international release for Larsson, who is already a star in Sweden. “It feels so good to have my record out - that I can actually go here and tell people, ‘Check out my album’ and stuff,” Larsson said in an interview on Monday. “But it’s definitely difficult because it’s so big - it’s really, really big,” she said, referring to the American market.
Larsson gained fame in her home country at the age of 10, when she won the Swedish talent show “Talang” in 2008. Last month, she was named artist of the year at the Grammis Awards, Sweden’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards. “Gay moment” stays put as Malaysia to release “Beauty and the Beast” without cuts KUALA LUMPUR - Walt Disney blockbuster “Beauty and the Beast” will be released in Malaysia this month without any cuts, the company said on Tuesday, after censors had earlier asked for the removal of a “gay moment” in the movie. Malaysia’s censor board last week barred the movie from screening in the Muslim-majority country if Disney did not remove the gay scene. Homosexuality is discouraged by religious leaders in Malaysia. Disney refused to make the cut and local distributors asked the censor board to review the decision.

BRUSSELS — Brussels International Airport, where 16 people died in two bomb attacks on March 22, 2016, looks shiny new. The Maelbeek subway station, where another 16 died from a backpack bomb, processes commuters much as it always has. And tourism is recovering, despite Donald Trump calling the Belgian capital a “hellhole” that should be avoided at all costs.

Still, the city’s residents and authorities are determined to find a way to forge ahead, without changing the character of one of the world’s most international cities. “Killing innocent people was really dramatic for everyone, but we have also seen very positive signs of the human beings, the solidarity, people helping each other out,” said Arnaud Feist, Brussels Airport CEO, in an interview with The Associated Press. Yet surveillance is up almost everywhere. The city and Belgium as a whole continue to live at the secondhighest terror level, meaning there is a serious threat of an attack. Even if the locals in Brussels are
mostly oblivious to heavily armed paratroopers patrolling the city’s landmarks, visitors still stop in their tracks when they notice the camouflage dress and the machine guns. At the airport, authorities “have taken a lot of additional security measures that go well beyond the European regulations,” Feist said. Normality is still far off on the first anniversary of the attacks, which also wounded more than 300 people. The social fabric is still especially frayed in the rundown Molenbeek municipality in the center of the city, where several of the extremists who were involved in the Brussels attack or the November 2015 Paris attacks had lived or grown up. The area, which has a large immigrant community, was portrayed as jihadi central and Europe’s hotbed of fundamental-
ism, and is still far from recovering from the stigma. “It’s a fact that there really was Molenbeek-bashing after the Paris attacks,” said the city’s mayor, Francoise Schepmans. The facts about rampant crime on some streets and unfettered religious extremism in some mosques and a Quran school were laid bare. Instead, the Acharya Perkasa customary youth club (sekaa taruna) of Blungbang hamlet, Penarungan, Badung, even does not utilize such materials. The youth club with 125 members takes advantage of used goods, such as bamboo, recycled paper, fabric, foliage, starch glue and natural dyes.

Designer of the ogoh-ogoh, I Gede Agustinus Darmawan, said the tools and materials used are 99.9 percent of natural ones and worked on manually. “Collection of the raw materials has been done since four months ago,” he said on Tuesday (Mar. 21). According to him, his club makes cooperation with the Gadgad Organic Community in the matter of knowledge as well as the making process and the use of natural dyes. “The process starts from the making of framework, plaiting, making of structure, attachment of paper, mask installation, painting, fabric installation and ornamentation,” he explained. Meanwhile, for coloring the Acharya Perkasa applies materials like sea-almond leaves, mango leaves and mahogany leaves. Interestingly, the natural color processing also produces compost. “We make the waste of the natural color processing into solid and liquid compost. Our concept is from nature and back to nature,” he said. Related to the costs spent, Agustinus Darmawan said that it is about IDR 5 million. Their eco-friendly ogoh-ogoh takes the theme Samantha Mahottama, with the height of 4.5 meters above the ground and 1.5 meters wide. “If burned after using, the ogoh-ogoh will not pollute the air and if left in the open space, the ogoh-ogoh will get decomposed by itself,” he said. Chief of the Acarya Perkasa customary youth club, Adi Wisnu Ambara, revealed that the theme Samantha Mahottama is the living being on earth as one of the God’s creation namely plants. Samantha Mahottama is the elder brother of human being that only has single aspect of life namely eka pramana/bayu or energy. “The meaning of Samantha Mahottama is living being that has extraordinary strength serving as the protector of the earth and other living creatures,” he said. The philosophy of Samantha Mahottama actually teaches us to express gratitude for all the graces of God having been extended to the life of human beings. “As human beings, we having been granted with tri pramana (three aspects of life— energy, speech and reasoning) should respect our elder brothers,” he concluded. DENPASAR - Consumers of roasted suckling pig do not need to worry about Streptococcus suis meningitis (MSS). Transmission of Streptococcus suis bacterium is indeed through pork. However, not all pigs in Bali are infected with MSS. Results of the research made by Chairman of the Indonesia Pig Livestock Scientists Association, Prof. Komang Budaarsa, indicated that Streptococcus suis bacteria will die at the temperature of 56 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the suckling pig weighing between 20 kg and 40 kg will be maturely cooked at the temperature of 110 degrees Celsius for approximately two hours. As a note, the other equipment used in the preparation to presentation process of the roasted suckling pig should also be clean. “This understanding is important to be known by the public. Otherwise, it will have adverse impact on food stalls offering roasted suckling pig and pig farmers,” he said in the demonstration of consuming roasted suckling pig at the Office of PDI-P Bali on Tuesday (Mar. 21). This event was also attended by Chairman of Commission IV from PDI-P Faction of the Bali House of Representatives, Nyoman Parta. According to Budaarsa, the results of the last survey made in February, there were a total of 71 food stalls offering roasted suckling pig in Denpasar and Badung. At least, 142 heads of roasted suckling pig are required each day to supply the food stalls in the two regions. “It can be imagined the subsequent impacts if the food stalls are going bankrupt. Where will pig farmers sell their pigs?” asked the professor of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University. Budaarsa also reminded people not to eat raw pork or imperfectly processed pork. He suggested not slaughtering sick pigs. Prevention against MSS can also be done through the spraying of pigsty with disinfectant once a week. Abrasion sweeps away Tegal Besar Beach BPBD to post prohibition sign SEMARAPURA - Coastal area of Tegal Besar hamlet, Negari, Banjarangkan, has been completely swept away by abrasion. This can be seen from the three-meter high waves at the entrance to the Tegal Besar Beach on Monday (Mar. 20). This condition makes the westernmost coast of Klungkung to no longer be visited. Big waves and totally-eroded beaches will soon be installed with a prohibition sign so as not to claim any casualties.

BANGLI - Empty stock of anti-rabies serum (SAR) in Bangli district forces five people at two villages in Susut subdistrict becoming the victims of rabies dog bite to purchase it to outside the district. To get the SAR, the dog bite victims must also expend significant costs reaching tens of millions of rupiahs. Ni Wayan Ardiani, the parent of victim Ni Putu Ayu Kartika Dewi, revealed that to be able to get the SAR, she had to buy it to a private hospital in Badung. Each vial she bought at a price of IDR 7.5 million. To purchase SAR, Ardiani admitted to borrow money to LPD at her home village. Other than Ardiani is Sang Made Permana Yuda. This 29-year old man, another victim of rabies dog bite, also admitted to have purchased SAR at a hospital in Badung to prevent undesirable things. CHICAGO - A baby girl from the Ivory Coast born with four legs and two spines has been successfully separated from a parasitic twin in a rare and complex surgery at a Chicago hospital.
Ten-month-old Dominique underwent a six-hour procedure involving five surgeons at the Advocate Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, on March 8. She is now thriving with the Chicago foster family who will look after her until she is well enough to return home, her doctors and foster mother told Reuters on Monday. “It’s going rather well. She was only in the hospital a total of five days. She’s been home with ‘step-mom’ and just doing
very, very well,” said pediatric and reconstructive surgeon Frank A. Vicari. Dominique was born with a parasitic twin. The bottom half of her not-fully-developed twin’s body protruded from her neck and back. “A parasitic twin is an identical twin that fails to fully separate in development,” said John R. Ruge, a pediatric neurosurgeon at the hospital. “In other words, not another independent twin, but a twin that was dependent on her body system, such that Dominique’s heart and lungs provided the nourishment.” Doctors did not give Dominique’s family name. Nancy Swabb, from Edgebrook, Illinois, has looked
after Dominique since she arrived in the United States for the surgery. “She’s been a joy. We really enjoyed having her in our family,” said Swabb. “We send a lot of photos and updates and so we know that Dominique’s family sees what she’s doing and seeing that she has two new teeth and she’s learning to wave and doing all sorts of special things.” Swabb said she did not want to think about saying goodbye to Dominique when she returns to her family in the Ivory Coast. “She has touched our hearts. Prostate, hair loss drugs tied to mental health risk, but not suicide
DRUGS that treat hair loss and prostate enlargement are tied to a small increased risk of depression and self-harm, according to a new study from Canada. The pills were not tied to an increased risk of suicide, however. The drugs finasteride and dutasteride belong to a class of medications known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (5ARIs). 5ARIs have come under increasing scrutiny in recent years by regulators in the United States and Canada because of a possible link to mental health issues, according to the researchers. “There wasn’t a lot of good studies in this area, and it’s a very common medication for urologists to use,” said lead author Dr. Blayne Welk, of Western University and
the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Ontario. Welk’s team analyzed data from 93,197 men who were at least 66 years old when they received prescriptions for 5ARIs between 2003 and 2013, plus another 93,197 similar men who had never filled a prescription for a 5ARI. Overall, 5ARIs were not linked with an increased risk of suicide, the researchers reported in JAMA Internal Medicine. During the first 18 months, however, the men using 5ARIs had an 88 percent higher risk of harming themselves. That risk did not extend beyond 18 months. Men in the 5ARI group also had a 94 percent higher risk of depression in the first 18 months,
compared to men not using these drugs. Beyond 18 months, the increased risk of depression fell to 22 percent. The type of 5ARI did not appear to significantly alter the results. Welk cautions that the actual risk of depression and self-harm is very low. If the drugs were actually causing these side effects - which this study wasn’t design to prove “you’d need 470 men to take this medication for a full year to have a new case of depression,” Welk told Reuters Health. That number would have to be even higher to cause a new case of self-harm, since self-harm is less common than depression. “It is a risk potentially and
patients and physicians should be aware of it,” Welk said. A separate study in the journal PeerJ evaluated another concern about 5ARIs - erectile dysfunction. Drs. Tina Kiguradze and William Temps of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and colleagues found that when erectile dysfunction occurred in men taking 5ARIs for at least 180 days, the dysfunction was more likely to last at least 90 days after stopping the medication. Erectile dysfunction, when it occurred, resolved faster in men who took the medications for shorter periods. The proportion of men taking 5ARIs and experiencing erectile dysfunction is likely around 5 percent, according to Dr. Landon Trost, who is head of andrology and
male infertility at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. But it’s not clear how many men suffer persistent erectile dysfunction after stopping 5ARIs, said Trost, who was not involved with either of the new studies. “I think it’s important to be educated about the potential side effects,” he told Reuters Health. Men who are already at increased risk for these potential side effects must weigh the risks and benefits of the drugs, Trost said. He said older men taking 5ARIs for prostate problems might come to different conclusions than young men taking the pills for hair loss. Additionally, he said, men should tell their doctors if they experience these symptoms. (rtr)

S.Korea’s Park goes home after 14hour interrogation in graft probe
SEOUL - Ousted South Korean President Park Geun-hye left prosecutors’ offices early on Wednesday after being questioned in an investigation into a corruption scandal that ended her presidency this month. Park did not respond to reporters’ questions as she emerged from the building after nearly 22 hours and entered a waiting car to be driven to her private home. Prosecutors questioned Park as a criminal suspect for the first time since the Constitutional Court on March 10 upheld her December impeachment by parliament. Park is accused of colluding with a friend, Choi Soon-sil, to pressure big businesses to donate to two foundations set up to back the president’s policy initiatives. She and Choi have denied wrongdoing. Prosecutors declined to comment on Tuesday whether Park would be called back for more questioning or whether they will
seek an arrest warrant from the court to detain her. They did not discuss the details of the questions but said Park was responding well to the investigation. Park, 65, became South Korea’s first democratically elected president to be removed from office when the Constitutional Court on March 10 upheld her impeachment. She issued a brief statement upon arriving at the prosecutors’ office on Tuesday, her first public remark since being removed from office. “I am sorry to the people. SEOUL - A North Korean missile launch failed on Wednesday, with the rocket exploding within seconds, the U.S. military said, the latest in a series of North Korean weapons tests to rattle its neighbours and raise tension in the region. South Korea said the apparent test launch of one missile by nuclear-capable North Korea, from the city of Wonsan on its east coast, had failed. South Korea’s defence ministry said it was conducting an analysis to determine more details. The U.S. military statement shed more light. “U.S. Pacific Command detected what we assess was a failed North Korean missile launch attempt ... in the vicinity of Kalma,” Commander Dave Benham, a spokesman for U.S. Pacific Command, said in the statement, referring to an air field in Wonsan. “A missile appears to have exploded within seconds of launch,” Benham said, adding that work was being carried out on a more detailed assessment. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said the missile may have exploded as it was launched, before reaching an altitude at which it could be detected by South Korean radar. The launch comes as the U.S. envoy for North Korea nuclear programme, Joseph Yun, met his South Korean counterpart in Seoul to discuss a response to the North’s weapons programmes. Just last week U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited Japan, South Korea and China and how to handle North Korea was a major issue in his talks. Speaking in Seoul on Friday, Tillerson said a policy of strategic patience with North Korea had ended and all options, including a military one, were on the table if North Korea threatened South Korean or U.S. forces. North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests and a series of missile launches since the beginning of last year in defiance of U.N. resolutions. It is believed to be working to develop nuclear-tipped missiles that can reach the United States. The initial reports of North Korea’s tests on Wednesday came from Japan’s Kyodo news agency, which cited a Japanese government source saying North Korea may have launched several missiles from an area on its east coast. BUSINESS Not oil but trade: the economic case for Scottish independence
EDINBURGH, March 21 (Reuters) - While the economic case for Scottish independence once centred on oil, people like company director Niall McLean now argue that trade is the way to ensure their country’s future prosperity - and avoid the damage of the United Kingdom leaving the EU. Turning Scotland, which sells two thirds of its exports to the rest of Britain, into a heavyweight international trader would be tough. This is especially so because a dive in global oil prices since Scots voted on - and rejected - independence in 2014 has hit its economy hard. With the Scottish National Party (SNP) which runs the devolved government pushing for a new referendum, opponents of dismantling the 300-year-old union say the economy can ill-afford another divisive campaign and its inherent uncertainty. But McLean says uncertainty is a given anyway as the government in London prepares to negotiate Britain’s departure from the European Union after 44 years in the trading bloc. “At the end of the uncertainty you have to think of where you want to be,” said McLean, who sits on the advisory board of Business for Scotland, a pro-independence group. “Independence gives us a route where the EU market is still open to us and there is a way forward for trade. Brexit is the opposite.” His firm, Geo-Rope, provides civil engineering services across Britain and continental Europe. And just as McLean needs the bloc as a market, he also needs it as recruitment pool: his 200 staff include many citizens of other EU countries whose future right to work in Britain remains uncertain after Brexit. Last June’s vote by Britons to quit the EU has altered the political landscape; England, the United Kingdom’s most populous nation, opted along with Wales to leave; the Scots and Northern Irish wanted to keep their EU membership. Scotland’s First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon says Brexit has dissolved the certainty that the United Kingdom once offered; faced with being taken out of the EU against the will of the majority, Scots must have a new choice, she argues. Independence offers them an opportunity to stay
in the bloc, or at least its single market, after Britain exits. British Prime Minister Theresa May, who would have to sign off on any binding referendum, has said now is “not the time” for one but Sturgeon is raising the pressure for a vote between the autumn of next year and spring of 2019. MARKET, WHICH MARKET? Campaigning for succession in 2014, the SNP argued that tax revenues from North Sea oil production which go to the UK exchequer should belong to an independent Scotland, providing a cushion of prosperity for its five million citizens. In the end a majority did not see the sense of breaking with Scotland’s biggest trading partner and its currency, the pound. Since then, oil prices have dived from $100 a barrel to half that, leading to a collapse in North Sea tax revenues and hurting Scottish regions that service the offshore energy industry, notably around the east coast city of Aberdeen. Nationalists and unionists both want expanded trade, but argue over which market should take priority. With 8 percent of the UK population and annual economic output of 150 billion pounds, Scotland sells 50 billion pounds ($62 billion) in goods and services to the rest of Britain. In 2015, that amounted to 63 percent of Scottish exports, compared with just 16 percent to other EU member states, Scottish government figures show. “If everyone in Scotland agrees that free trade with Europe is important - and we do - it is literally impossible to deny that trade with the rest of the UK matters four times as much,” Ruth Davidson, who leads May’s Conservatives in Scotland, said earlier this year. If another referendum is held, SNP projections will assume oil produces no tax revenues, its economic strategist has said. but Simon Wren-Lewis, Professor of Economic Policy at Oxford University, estimates it could cut average British incomes by 10 percent by 2030. “If Scotland, by becoming independent, can avoid that fate then you have a clear long-term economic gain right there. But it is more than that. If Scotland can remain in the (EU) single market it could be the destination of the foreign investment that once came to the UK as a gateway into the EU,” he said. The question of what currency an independent Scotland would use remains open. In 2014 the SNP proposed keeping the pound despite the implied dependence on the Bank of England and the British authorities’ rejection of the idea. Sturgeon has said using sterling is a “starting point” for an independent Scotland. Former Bank of England governor Mervyn King has said he does not think using the pound would be a major complication, but he pointed to another - public finances. Before 2014, Scotland’s economy grew for a few years in line with broader British GDP but this changed after oil fell that year. In
the third quarter of 2016, Scottish GDP rose just 0.7 percent year-onyear compared with 2.2 percent for Britain. Scotland ran a estimated 15 billion pound fiscal deficit in the year to March 2016, equal to around 10 percent of its annual GDP. EU states are supposed to limit their deficits to 3 percent; the UK figure was 3.8 percent. David Eiser, a fellow at economic thinktank Fraser of Allander Institute and an adviser to the Scottish parliament, said tough questions would face an independent Scotland. “How do you fill what is a very large gap? Are there types of economic activity that aren’t being taxed at the moment, such as in the digital economy ... and where do you cut chunks of public spending?” he asked. Businesses are keen to keep free movement of EU labour which has helped redress an ageing and shrinking population. About 181,000 citizens of other EU states live in Scotland, around 3.4 percent of the population. Siyat Sampian Held at Penataran Sasih Temple
Hundreds of devotional pilgrims, namely sutri (female) and juru sirat (male), performed siyat sampian (sampian war) tradition on Wednesday (Mar. 15) in the area of Penataran Sasih Temple, Pejeng. This activity was held for three days after the peak of padudusan ritual at the local temple when the deities of Samuan Tiga Temple and ratu manca-manca would like to leave their sanctum.
The siyat sampian ritual has been prepared from the morning, commenced with nampyog where the sutri and juru sirat danced around the area of Penataran Sasih. Subsequently, it was followed by mabete-betean and wave dance. The entire procession was conducted by surrounding the area of Penataran Sasih for three times. After the procession, the sutri and juru sirat took a short break. Furthermore, they said prayers in front of the pengaruman and the shrine of Ratu Sanghyang. After saying prayers and being sprinkled with holy water, some participants began to shout loudly. Immediately, they took sampian having been previously provided in the courtyard of the temple. While this tradition took place, they looked to hit each other by using the sampian. “No one feels sore while undertaking this tradition. Instead, I personally feel proud and happy after going through this tradition. Moreover, the whole series of piodalan or temple anniversary has been running smoothly,” said Oyis, one of the juru sirat participating in the tradition of siyat sampian. Committee of the Padudusan Ritual of the Penataran Sasih, Dewa Nyoman Ngakan Suardita, asserted that siat sampian tradition is a regular agenda held every piodalan at the Penataran Sasih. “This tradition must always be carried out every piodalan padudusan at Penataran Sasih every year,” he said. JAKARTA — An earthquake has hit Indonesia’s resort island of Bali, causing some panic among residents, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The United States Geological Survey said the magnitude 5.5 earthquake that struck at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday (23:10 GMT Tuesday) was centered 2 kilometers (1.4 miles) northeast of Banjar Pasekan, a town in the southeastern part of Bali, at a depth of 118 kilometers (74 miles). Witnesses said many residents and tourists ran out of their homes and hotels toward higher ground, but the situation returned to normal after they received text messages saying the quake had no potential to trigger a tsunami. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency measured the earthquake at 6.4 magnitude but said it would not cause a tsunami because the epicenter was so deep. Indonesia is prone to the seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire. In December 2004, a massive earthquake off Sumatra island triggered a tsunami that killed 230,000 people in a dozen countries.(ap)

ICRC to learn from Indonesia`s experiences in handling conflicts

JAKARTA - The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) will learn from Indonesias experience in handling and resolving conflicts, including helping and protecting victims, ICRCS President Peter Maurer said in a discussion with media here on Tuesday. He stated that his visit to Indonesia this time was in the framework of cooperation with the Indonesian government and other relevant par-
ties in a different form than previously done. Maurer sees Indonesia as possessing multifaceted characteristics in terms of culture, ethnicity, and religion and its experiences in dealing with conflicts and aiding victims. “Indonesia has also been at the frontline of Islam and Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, and Islam and Hinduism, which are all interconnected,” he noted. Maurer also pointed out the important role played by Indonesia in resolving the conflict between Muslims and Buddhists in Myanmar. “Indonesia plays a major role in dealing with victims of sexual violence in conflict and non-conflict areas, such as in Myanmar,” Peter said, adding that the country was also experienced in performing cataract surgeries for the people. According to him, the ICRC has adequate instruments for cataract surgery, but lacks experience and hence it becomes difficult to work together. The ICRC is an independent humanitarian organization whose mission is to support and protect the victims of conflict and other violence throughout the world as mandated in the Geneva Conventions 1949. President Jokowi seeks immediate revision of migrant workers` law JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called for an immediate revision of the law on migrant workers protection, in order to create an integrated service model. “The president stated that it (the revision) should be completed soon, so that an integrated service model could be created in the future,” chief of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) Nusron Wahid noted after a meeting with the president here on Monday. Currently, Indonesian workers in the naval base, including ship crews, are not recorded by the BNP2TKI. “The law is implemented by the Transportation Ministry; thus, they are not recorded as migrant work-
ers,” Nusron said, adding that the revised law would improve workers protection. “The revised law would strengthen workers protection and simplify the process under an integrated service agency,” he revealed. Under the revised law, BNP2TKI would have greater authority in the one-roof integrated services. “Currently, some of the authority has been taken by the Manpower Ministry and some by the Transportation Ministry. Under the revised law, the ministry would serve as a regulator, and the agency would serve as an operator that would be accountable to the president,” he remarked. Sri Mulyani highlights potential areas of investment to UK businesses
LONDON - The Great Britain is one of Indonesias strategic partners, with bilateral trade reaching US$2.4 billion, according to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
The statement was made by the minister during the 2017 Economic Outlook, organized by the Young Indonesian Professionals Association (YIPA) in cooperation with Bloomberg in London, the associations Executive Director Steven Marcelino informed Antara in London, Tuesday. Minister Indrawati further stated that the Great Britain is among the top 10 investors in Indonesia, and the country is also the most sought after destination for the ministrys scholarship awardees for pursuing further studies. In her keynote speech, the former managing director of World Bank also remarked that Indonesias economy had recorded a 5.02 percent growth above the expected figure in 2017, which indicated that the country had recovered from the downfall in the global commodity market. In the last decade, Indonesias economy had grown at an average of 5.7 percent per year, which is considerably high as compared to other G20 member countries, thereby placing Indonesia just behind India and China. As the growth was sustained by a stable rate of inflation, the challenges remain. Indonesia needs to figure out how to sustain better quality growth in order to achieve inclusive and equitable development in future.

Last year, Indonesias position in the index of ease of doing business had moved up from 106th to 91st, but the government believed that it could implement more measures and eventually place the country in the top 40 ranking. The forum, held at the Bloombergs European headquarters, was inaugurated by Bloombergs London Chairman Constantin Cotzias, followed by an opening speech delivered by Indonesias Ambassador to the Great Britain Rizal Sukma. The Finn has proved his pace over 77 races with Williams but knows he will be stepping up into the big leagues when he starts his first race for the reigning constructors’ champions at this week’s Australian Grand Prix. “It’s a great challenge for everyone, but I think especially for me,” Bottas told reporters in Melbourne. “This team has been winning the last three years and it’s kind of a dream come true for me to be in a team like this. So, it’s a big year ahead.” Expectations are indeed high at Mercedes, and if Bottas fails to at least support the team’s charge for a fourth successive constructors’ title with regular podiums and points there will be no shortage of drivers waiting to replace him for 2018. Although he finished fourth in the drivers’ championship in 2014
and has accumulated nine podiums and 411 points over his career, Bottas has never won a race. SEOUL — Marcello Lippi faces his biggest challenge as China coach, needing a win against South Korea to keep alive any hopes of qualifying for Russia 2018. Ferguson urges United to aim for Europa League glory Manchester United should focus on winning the Europa League this season, which would bring the club a trophy they have never won and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League, former manager Alex Ferguson has said. United are fifth in the PREMIER LEAGUE and sit four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, though they have two games in hand on the Merseyside club. SAO PAULO — The only team to play in every World Cup is about to qualify for the next one. Brazil could ensure its spot at the 2018 tournament in Russia with a victory at Uruguay on Thursday. Depending on other results, however, the five-time champions may have to wait until next week when they face Paraguay in Sao Paulo. Either way, Brazil’s turnaround has been rather spectacular. Just over 2½ years ago, the Brazilians were humiliated at home in a 7-1 loss to Germany in the World Cup semifinals. The difference has been coach Adenor Leonardo Bacchi — known at Tite (pronounced Chi-Chi) — who took over last year after Dunga was fired. In six qualifying matches under Tite, Brazil has won all six. Brazil leads the 10-team South American qualifying group with 27 points from 12 matches. Uruguay is four behind and in good shape to take the second of four automatic World Cup berths. A fifth South American team can also advance through a playoff. But after Brazil and Uruguay, the race for the

United are fifth in the PREMIER LEAGUE and sit four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, though they have two games in hand on the Merseyside club. Brazil on verge of landing World Cup berth for Russia
SAO PAULO — The only team to play in every World Cup is about to qualify for the next one. Brazil could ensure its spot at the 2018 tournament in Russia with a victory at Uruguay on Thursday. Depending on other results, however, the five-time champions may have to wait until next week when they face Paraguay in Sao Paulo. Either way, Brazil’s turnaround has been rather spectacular. Just over 2½ years ago, the Brazilians were humiliated at home in a 7-1 loss to Germany in the World Cup semifinals. The difference has been coach Adenor Leonardo Bacchi — known at Tite (pronounced Chi-Chi) — who took over last year after Dunga was fired. In six qualifying matches under Tite, Brazil has won all six. Brazil leads the 10-team South American qualifying group with 27 points from 12 matches. Uruguay is four behind and in good shape to take the second of four automatic World Cup berths. A fifth South American team can also advance through a playoff. But after Brazil and Uruguay, the race for the
other qualifying spots is wide open with only six matches remaining. Ecuador and Chile have 20 points each and Argentina has 19, followed by Colombia with 18, Paraguay with 15 and Peru with 14. The Finn has proved his pace over 77 races with Williams but knows he will be stepping up into the big leagues when he starts his first race for the reigning constructors’ champions at this week’s Australian Grand Prix. “It’s a great challenge for everyone, but I think especially for me,” Bottas told reporters in Melbourne. “This team has been winning the last three years and it’s kind of a dream come true for me to be in a team like this. So, it’s a big year ahead.” Expectations are indeed high at Mercedes, and if Bottas fails to at least support the team’s charge for a fourth successive constructors’ title with regular podiums and points there will be no shortage of drivers waiting to replace him for 2018. Although he finished fourth in the drivers’ championship in 2014
and has accumulated nine podiums and 411 points over his career, Bottas has never won a race. Melbourne has thrown up a few surprises but Bottas is not banking on breaking his duck at Albert Park, however much he would love to. “That would be the perfect way to start a season and my career with Mercedes, but I’m not thinking about it too much,” he added. “Obviously, it’s the only thing I want, but I always want to focus on my job and work as a team and if we do our work perfectly, if I do my job perfectly, it’s possible. “But yeah, definitely, the goal for me is to start a season in a good way and get the results early on and continue from there.” Bottas has already been welcomed with open arms by fellow Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton but the Briton’s history with former
team mates, including Rosberg, suggests the bonhomie would not last long if the Finn was a genuine title contender. Trump is trying to win the first major legislative battle of his presidency. Pressure is growing on the businessman-turned politician to deliver as investors become worried that a failed healthcare push could also portend trouble for promised tax cuts and relaxed regulation that have propelled the market to record highs in recent months. In one of the few visits he has made to the U.S. Capitol since taking office two months ago, Trump told fellow Republicans in the House of Representatives on Tuesday morning they would face “political problems” for opposing the bill that takes apart Obamacare and partially replaces it. President Jokowi seeks immediate revision of migrant workers` law JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called for an immediate revision of the law on migrant workers protection, in order to create an integrated service model. “The president stated that it (the revision) should be completed soon, so that an integrated service model could be created in the future,” chief of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) Nusron Wahid noted after a meeting with the president here on Monday. Currently, Indonesian workers in the naval base, including ship crews, are not recorded by the BNP2TKI. “The law is implemented by the Transportation Ministry; thus, they are not recorded as migrant work-
ers,” Nusron said, adding that the revised law would improve workers protection. “The revised law would strengthen workers protection and simplify the process under an integrated service agency,” he revealed. Under the revised law, BNP2TKI would have greater authority in the one-roof integrated services. “Currently, some of the authority has been taken by the Manpower Ministry and some by the Transportation Ministry. Under the revised law, the ministry would serve as a regulator, and the agency would serve as an operator that would be accountable to the president,” he remarked. Sri Mulyani highlights potential areas of investment to UK businesses
LONDON - The Great Britain is one of Indonesias strategic partners, with bilateral trade reaching US$2.4 billion, according to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
The statement was made by the minister during the 2017 Economic Outlook, organized by the Young Indonesian Professionals Association (YIPA) in cooperation with Bloomberg in London, the associations Executive Director Steven Marcelino informed Antara in London, Tuesday. Minister Indrawati further stated that the Great Britain is among the top 10 investors in Indonesia, and the country is also the most sought after destination for the ministrys scholarship awardees for pursuing further studies. In her keynote speech, the former managing director of World Bank also remarked that Indonesias economy had recorded a 5.02 percent growth above the expected figure in 2017, which indicated that the country had recovered from the downfall in the global commodity market. In the last decade, Indonesias economy had grown at an average of 5.7 percent per year, which is considerably high as compared to other G20 member countries, thereby placing Indonesia just behind India and China. As the growth was sustained by a stable rate of inflation, the challenges remain. Indonesia needs to figure out how to sustain better quality growth in order to achieve inclusive and equitable development in future.

The forum, held at the Bloombergs European headquarters, was inaugurated by Bloombergs London Chairman Constantin Cotzias, followed by an opening speech delivered by Indonesias Ambassador to the Great Britain Rizal Sukma. BUSINESS Not oil but trade: the economic case for Scottish independence
EDINBURGH, March 21 (Reuters) - While the economic case for Scottish independence once centred on oil, people like company director Niall McLean now argue that trade is the way to ensure their country’s future prosperity - and avoid the damage of the United Kingdom leaving the EU. Turning Scotland, which sells two thirds of its exports to the rest of Britain, into a heavyweight international trader would be tough. This is especially so because a dive in global oil prices since Scots voted on - and rejected - independence in 2014 has hit its economy hard. With the Scottish National Party (SNP) which runs the devolved government pushing for a new referendum, opponents of dismantling the 300-year-old union say the economy can ill-afford another divisive campaign and its inherent uncertainty. But McLean says uncertainty is a given anyway as the government in London prepares to negotiate Britain’s departure from the European Union after 44 years in the trading bloc. “At the end of the uncertainty you have to think of where you want to be,” said McLean, who sits on the advisory board of Business for Scotland, a pro-independence group. “Independence gives us a route where the EU market is still open to us and there is a way forward for trade. Brexit is the opposite.” His firm, Geo-Rope, provides civil engineering services across Britain and continental Europe. And just as McLean needs the bloc as a market, he also needs it as recruitment pool: his 200 staff include many citizens of other EU countries whose future right to work in Britain remains uncertain after Brexit. Last June’s vote by Britons to quit the EU has altered the political landscape; England, the United Kingdom’s most populous nation, opted along with Wales to leave; the Scots and Northern Irish wanted to keep their EU membership. Scotland’s First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon says Brexit has dissolved the certainty that the United Kingdom once offered; faced with being taken out of the EU against the will of the majority, Scots must have a new choice, she argues. Independence offers them an opportunity to stay

British Prime Minister Theresa May, who would have to sign off on any binding referendum, has said now is “not the time” for one but Sturgeon is raising the pressure for a vote between the autumn of next year and spring of 2019. MARKET, WHICH MARKET? Campaigning for succession in 2014, the SNP argued that tax revenues from North Sea oil production which go to the UK exchequer should belong to an independent Scotland, providing a cushion of prosperity for its five million citizens. In the end a majority did not see the sense of breaking with Scotland’s biggest trading partner and its currency, the pound. Since then, oil prices have dived from $100 a barrel to half that, leading to a collapse in North Sea tax revenues and hurting Scottish regions that service the offshore energy industry, notably around the east coast city of Aberdeen. Nationalists and unionists both want expanded trade, but argue over which market should take priority. With 8 percent of the UK population and annual economic output of 150 billion pounds, Scotland sells 50 billion pounds ($62 billion) in goods and services to the rest of Britain. In 2015, that amounted to 63 percent of Scottish exports, compared with just 16 percent to other EU member states, Scottish government figures show. “If everyone in Scotland agrees that free trade with Europe is important - and we do - it is literally impossible to deny that trade with the rest of the UK matters four times as much,” Ruth Davidson, who leads May’s Conservatives in Scotland, said earlier this year. But it is more than that. If Scotland can remain in the (EU) single market it could be the destination of the foreign investment that once came to the UK as a gateway into the EU,” he said. The question of what currency an independent Scotland would use remains open. In 2014 the SNP proposed keeping the pound despite the implied dependence on the Bank of England and the British authorities’ rejection of the idea. Sturgeon has said using sterling is a “starting point” for an independent Scotland. Former Bank of England governor Mervyn King has said he does not think using the pound would be a major complication, but he pointed to another - public finances. Before 2014, Scotland’s economy grew for a few years in line with broader British GDP but this changed after oil fell that year. In
the third quarter of 2016, Scottish GDP rose just 0.7 percent year-onyear compared with 2.2 percent for Britain. Scotland ran a estimated 15 billion pound fiscal deficit in the year to March 2016, equal to around 10 percent of its annual GDP. EU states are supposed to limit their deficits to 3 percent; the UK figure was 3.8 percent. David Eiser, a fellow at economic thinktank Fraser of Allander Institute and an adviser to the Scottish parliament, said tough questions would face an independent Scotland. “How do you fill what is a very large gap? Are there types of economic activity that aren’t being taxed at the moment, such as in the digital economy ... and where do you cut chunks of public spending?” he asked. Businesses are keen to keep free movement of EU labour which has helped redress an ageing and shrinking population. About 181,000 citizens of other EU states live in Scotland, around 3.4 percent of the population. Siyat Sampian Held at Penataran Sasih Temple
Hundreds of devotional pilgrims, namely sutri (female) and juru sirat (male), performed siyat sampian (sampian war) tradition on Wednesday (Mar. 15) in the area of Penataran Sasih Temple, Pejeng. This activity was held for three days after the peak of padudusan ritual at the local temple when the deities of Samuan Tiga Temple and ratu manca-manca would like to leave their sanctum.
The siyat sampian ritual has been prepared from the morning, commenced with nampyog where the sutri and juru sirat danced around the area of Penataran Sasih. Subsequently, it was followed by mabete-betean and wave dance. The entire procession was conducted by surrounding the area of Penataran Sasih for three times. After the procession, the sutri and juru sirat took a short break. Furthermore, they said prayers in front of the pengaruman and the shrine of Ratu Sanghyang. After saying prayers and being sprinkled with holy water, some participants began to shout loudly. Immediately, they took sampian having been previously provided in the courtyard of the temple. While this tradition took place, they looked to hit each other by using the sampian. “No one feels sore while undertaking this tradition. Instead, I personally feel proud and happy after going through this tradition. Moreover, the whole series of piodalan or temple anniversary has been running smoothly,” said Oyis, one of the juru sirat participating in the tradition of siyat sampian. Committee of the Padudusan Ritual of the Penataran Sasih, Dewa Nyoman Ngakan Suardita, asserted that siat sampian tradition is a regular agenda held every piodalan at the Penataran Sasih. “This tradition must always be carried out every piodalan padudusan at Penataran Sasih every year,” he said. JAKARTA — An earthquake has hit Indonesia’s resort island of Bali, causing some panic among residents, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The United States Geological Survey said the magnitude 5.5 earthquake that struck at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday (23:10 GMT Tuesday) was centered 2 kilometers (1.4 miles) northeast of Banjar Pasekan, a town in the southeastern part of Bali, at a depth of 118 kilometers (74 miles). Witnesses said many residents and tourists ran out of their homes and hotels toward higher ground, but the situation returned to normal after they received text messages saying the quake had no potential to trigger a tsunami. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency measured the earthquake at 6.4 magnitude but said it would not cause a tsunami because the epicenter was so deep. Indonesia is prone to the seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire. In December 2004, a massive earthquake off Sumatra island triggered a tsunami that killed 230,000 people in a dozen countries.(ap)

After being checked, he suffered from bipolar, a kind of psychiatric disorder,” explained Sara through her interpreter, Wayan Ana. According to the witness, the defendant could not sleep all night and be creative in the afternoon. In Singapore, the defendant Faliq was once treated by Doctor Paolin. Moreover, the witness said that Faliq in his country has medical record of having been treated in a mental hospital due to bipolar disorder and psychosis. “Was the divorce filed due to bipolar disorder or psychosis?” asked the defendant’s attorney,
Andre Rahmat. “I still love Faliq. However, it is very difficult to live with someone suffering from bipolar disorder,” said Sara while crying. In the meantime, Doctor Kusumawardani admitted to have made an evaluation against the sickness of Faliq. At first, Kusumawardani said that he was diagnosed to have adjustment disorder. But when asked to control and check again, he was positive to suffer bipolar disorder, namely having volatile emotion. When asked:”Can bipolar disorder be cured?” “No. He must consume drug for lifetime. If the drug runs out, he can be blank for a moment,” said the fact witness. S.Korea’s Park goes home after 14hour interrogation in graft probe
SEOUL - Ousted South Korean President Park Geun-hye left prosecutors’ offices early on Wednesday after being questioned in an investigation into a corruption scandal that ended her presidency this month. Park did not respond to reporters’ questions as she emerged from the building after nearly 22 hours and entered a waiting car to be driven to her private home. Prosecutors questioned Park as a criminal suspect for the first time since the Constitutional Court on March 10 upheld her December impeachment by parliament. Park is accused of colluding with a friend, Choi Soon-sil, to pressure big businesses to donate to two foundations set up to back the president’s policy initiatives. She and Choi have denied wrongdoing. Prosecutors declined to comment on Tuesday whether Park would be called back for more questioning or whether they will
seek an arrest warrant from the court to detain her. They did not discuss the details of the questions but said Park was responding well to the investigation. Park, 65, became South Korea’s first democratically elected president to be removed from office when the Constitutional Court on March 10 upheld her impeachment. She issued a brief statement upon arriving at the prosecutors’ office on Tuesday, her first public remark since being removed from office. “I am sorry to the people. I will faithfully cooperate with questioning,” Park said in front of media at the steps of the prosecutors’ office
building. The questioning lasted 14 hours until just before midnight, one of her lawyers, Sohn Bum-gyu, told reporters. She and her lawyers reviewed her statements made to the investigators, before leaving at 6:55 a.m. (2155 GMT Tuesday). SEOUL - A North Korean missile launch failed on Wednesday, with the rocket exploding within seconds, the U.S. military said, the latest in a series of North Korean weapons tests to rattle its neighbours and raise tension in the region. South Korea said the apparent test launch of one missile by nuclear-capable North Korea, from the city of Wonsan on its east coast, had failed. South Korea’s defence ministry said it was conducting an analysis to determine more details. The U.S. military statement shed more light. “U.S. Pacific Command detected what we assess was a failed North Korean missile launch attempt ... in the vicinity of Kalma,” Commander Dave Benham, a spokesman for U.S. Pacific Command, said in the statement, referring to an air field in Wonsan. “A missile appears to have exploded within seconds of launch,” Benham said, adding that work was being carried out on a more detailed assessment. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said the missile may have exploded as it was launched, before reaching an altitude at which it could be detected by South Korean radar. The launch comes as the U.S. envoy for North Korea nuclear programme, Joseph Yun, met his South Korean counterpart in Seoul to discuss a response to the North’s weapons programmes. Just last week U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited Japan, South Korea and China and how to handle North Korea was a major issue in his talks. Speaking in Seoul on Friday, Tillerson said a policy of strategic patience with North Korea had ended and all options, including a military one, were on the table if North Korea threatened South Korean or U.S. forces. North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests and a series of missile launches since the beginning of last year in defiance of U.N. resolutions. It is believed to be working to develop nuclear-tipped missiles that can reach the United States. The initial reports of North Korea’s tests on Wednesday came from Japan’s Kyodo news agency, which cited a Japanese government source saying North Korea may have launched several missiles from an area on its east coast. Ten-month-old Dominique underwent a six-hour procedure involving five surgeons at the Advocate Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, on March 8. She is now thriving with the Chicago foster family who will look after her until she is well enough to return home, her doctors and foster mother told Reuters on Monday. “It’s going rather well. She was only in the hospital a total of five days. She’s been home with ‘step-mom’ and just doing
very, very well,” said pediatric and reconstructive surgeon Frank A. Vicari. Dominique was born with a parasitic twin. The bottom half of her not-fully-developed twin’s body protruded from her neck and back. “A parasitic twin is an identical twin that fails to fully separate in development,” said John R. Ruge, a pediatric neurosurgeon at the hospital. “In other words, not another independent twin, but a twin that was dependent on her body system, such that Dominique’s heart and lungs provided the nourishment.” Doctors did not give Dominique’s family name. Nancy Swabb, from Edgebrook, Illinois, has looked
after Dominique since she arrived in the United States for the surgery. “She’s been a joy. We really enjoyed having her in our family,” said Swabb. “We send a lot of photos and updates and so we know that Dominique’s family sees what she’s doing and seeing that she has two new teeth and she’s learning to wave and doing all sorts of special things.” Swabb said she did not want to think about saying goodbye to Dominique when she returns to her family in the Ivory Coast. “She has touched our hearts. Prostate, hair loss drugs tied to mental health risk, but not suicide
DRUGS that treat hair loss and prostate enlargement are tied to a small increased risk of depression and self-harm, according to a new study from Canada. The pills were not tied to an increased risk of suicide, however. The drugs finasteride and dutasteride belong to a class of medications known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (5ARIs). 5ARIs have come under increasing scrutiny in recent years by regulators in the United States and Canada because of a possible link to mental health issues, according to the researchers. “There wasn’t a lot of good studies in this area, and it’s a very common medication for urologists to use,” said lead author Dr. Blayne Welk, of Western University and
the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Ontario. Welk’s team analyzed data from 93,197 men who were at least 66 years old when they received prescriptions for 5ARIs between 2003 and 2013, plus another 93,197 similar men who had never filled a prescription for a 5ARI. Overall, 5ARIs were not linked with an increased risk of suicide, the researchers reported in JAMA Internal Medicine. During the first 18 months, however, the men using 5ARIs had an 88 percent higher risk of harming themselves. That risk did not extend beyond 18 months. Men in the 5ARI group also had a 94 percent higher risk of depression in the first 18 months,
compared to men not using these drugs. Beyond 18 months, the increased risk of depression fell to 22 percent. The type of 5ARI did not appear to significantly alter the results. Welk cautions that the actual risk of depression and self-harm is very low. If the drugs were actually causing these side effects - which this study wasn’t design to prove “you’d need 470 men to take this medication for a full year to have a new case of depression,” Welk told Reuters Health. That number would have to be even higher to cause a new case of self-harm, since self-harm is less common than depression. “It is a risk potentially and
patients and physicians should be aware of it,” Welk said. A separate study in the journal PeerJ evaluated another concern about 5ARIs - erectile dysfunction. Drs. Tina Kiguradze and William Temps of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and colleagues found that when erectile dysfunction occurred in men taking 5ARIs for at least 180 days, the dysfunction was more likely to last at least 90 days after stopping the medication. Erectile dysfunction, when it occurred, resolved faster in men who took the medications for shorter periods. The proportion of men taking 5ARIs and experiencing erectile dysfunction is likely around 5 percent, according to Dr. Landon Trost, who is head of andrology and
male infertility at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. But it’s not clear how many men suffer persistent erectile dysfunction after stopping 5ARIs, said Trost, who was not involved with either of the new studies. “I think it’s important to be educated about the potential side effects,” he told Reuters Health. Men who are already at increased risk for these potential side effects must weigh the risks and benefits of the drugs, Trost said. He said older men taking 5ARIs for prostate problems might come to different conclusions than young men taking the pills for hair loss. Additionally, he said, men should tell their doctors if they experience these symptoms. (rtr)

Moreover, as information obtained from the ministry of health the SAR stock is also empty at the distributor in France. “We actually have prepared a budget for the SAR procurement. However, the products have not been available yet. Pursuant to the information, it will be available in May-June,” he explained. When asked about the private hospital providing the SAR, Sudarma claimed not to know exactly where the patient obtained. He admitted to have cross-checked to the ministry of health, but the ministry equally claimed not to know. Sudarma explained that according to standard procedures, the bite cases at non-high risk areas are actually enough to be handled with complete anti-rabies vaccine (VAR) for three times. In the meantime, if the bite occurred in high risk areas such as the neck, face, head, tip of toes, hands and genital area as well as multiple injuries it is advised to get complete SAR. “Actually, SAR is not required if the bite occurred in the low risk area although the dog is positive to rabies. The youth club with 125 members takes advantage of used goods, such as bamboo, recycled paper, fabric, foliage, starch glue and natural dyes.

Designer of the ogoh-ogoh, I Gede Agustinus Darmawan, said the tools and materials used are 99.9 percent of natural ones and worked on manually. “Collection of the raw materials has been done since four months ago,” he said on Tuesday (Mar. 21). According to him, his club makes cooperation with the Gadgad Organic Community in the matter of knowledge as well as the making process and the use of natural dyes. “The process starts from the making of framework, plaiting, making of structure, attachment of paper, mask installation, painting, fabric installation and ornamentation,” he explained. Meanwhile, for coloring the Acharya Perkasa applies materials like sea-almond leaves, mango leaves and mahogany leaves. Interestingly, the natural color processing also produces compost. “We make the waste of the natural color processing into solid and liquid compost. Our concept is from nature and back to nature,” he said. Related to the costs spent, Agustinus Darmawan said that it is about IDR 5 million. Their eco-friendly ogoh-ogoh takes the theme Samantha Mahottama, with the height of 4.5 meters above the ground and 1.5 meters wide. “If burned after using, the ogoh-ogoh will not pollute the air and if left in the open space, the ogoh-ogoh will get decomposed by itself,” he said. Chief of the Acarya Perkasa customary youth club, Adi Wisnu Ambara, revealed that the theme Samantha Mahottama is the living being on earth as one of the God’s creation namely plants. Samantha Mahottama is the elder brother of human being that only has single aspect of life namely eka pramana/bayu or energy. “The meaning of Samantha Mahottama is living being that has extraordinary strength serving as the protector of the earth and other living creatures,” he said. The philosophy of Samantha Mahottama actually teaches us to express gratitude for all the graces of God having been extended to the life of human beings. “As human beings, we having been granted with tri pramana (three aspects of life— energy, speech and reasoning) should respect our elder brothers,” he concluded. DENPASAR - Consumers of roasted suckling pig do not need to worry about Streptococcus suis meningitis (MSS). Transmission of Streptococcus suis bacterium is indeed through pork. However, not all pigs in Bali are infected with MSS. Results of the research made by Chairman of the Indonesia Pig Livestock Scientists Association, Prof. Komang Budaarsa, indicated that Streptococcus suis bacteria will die at the temperature of 56 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the suckling pig weighing between 20 kg and 40 kg will be maturely cooked at the temperature of 110 degrees Celsius for approximately two hours. As a note, the other equipment used in the preparation to presentation process of the roasted suckling pig should also be clean. “This understanding is important to be known by the public. Otherwise, it will have adverse impact on food stalls offering roasted suckling pig and pig farmers,” he said in the demonstration of consuming roasted suckling pig at the Office of PDI-P Bali on Tuesday (Mar. 21). This event was also attended by Chairman of Commission IV from PDI-P Faction of the Bali House of Representatives, Nyoman Parta. According to Budaarsa, the results of the last survey made in February, there were a total of 71 food stalls offering roasted suckling pig in Denpasar and Badung. At least, 142 heads of roasted suckling pig are required each day to supply the food stalls in the two regions. “It can be imagined the subsequent impacts if the food stalls are going bankrupt. Where will pig farmers sell their pigs?” asked the professor of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University. Budaarsa also reminded people not to eat raw pork or imperfectly processed pork. He suggested not slaughtering sick pigs. Prevention against MSS can also be done through the spraying of pigsty with disinfectant once a week. Other than bacteria, it can also be caused by some viruses, fungi, parasites as well. So, it is a big mistake if blaming on the pigs only,” said this PDI-P politician from Guwang, Gianyar. He also called on the public to no longer be afraid of consuming pork. Swedish singer Zara Larsson seeks to build U.S. fan base
NEW YORK - Swedish pop star Zara Larsson may have racked up more than 1 billion streams on music service Spotify within a few days of her new album’s release, but the 19-yearold knows she still has some work to do in the United States. Her second album, “So Good,” came out on Friday. It is the first international release for Larsson, who is already a star in Sweden. “It feels so good to have my record out - that I can actually go here and tell people, ‘Check out my album’ and stuff,” Larsson said in an interview on Monday. “But it’s definitely difficult because it’s so big - it’s really, really big,” she said, referring to the American market.
Larsson gained fame in her home country at the age of 10, when she won the Swedish talent show “Talang” in 2008. Last month, she was named artist of the year at the Grammis Awards, Sweden’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards. “Gay moment” stays put as Malaysia to release “Beauty and the Beast” without cuts KUALA LUMPUR - Walt Disney blockbuster “Beauty and the Beast” will be released in Malaysia this month without any cuts, the company said on Tuesday, after censors had earlier asked for the removal of a “gay moment” in the movie. Malaysia’s censor board last week barred the movie from screening in the Muslim-majority country if Disney did not remove the gay scene. Homosexuality is discouraged by religious leaders in Malaysia. Disney refused to make the cut and local distributors asked the censor board to review the decision.

BRUSSELS — Brussels International Airport, where 16 people died in two bomb attacks on March 22, 2016, looks shiny new. The Maelbeek subway station, where another 16 died from a backpack bomb, processes commuters much as it always has. And tourism is recovering, despite Donald Trump calling the Belgian capital a “hellhole” that should be avoided at all costs.

Yet surveillance is up almost everywhere. The city and Belgium as a whole continue to live at the secondhighest terror level, meaning there is a serious threat of an attack. Even if the locals in Brussels are
