Show us the money: ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ probe may boost profits
NEW YORK - Leonardo DiCaprio bought the movie rights for what would be “The Wolf of Wall Street” back in 2007. But it wasn’t until a little-known Hollywood production company came along six years later that the story of high-rolling fraudsters got off the ground. On Wednesday, the Malaysian co-founder of that company, Red Granite Pictures, was accused in U.S. civil lawsuits of using $100 million dollars that was diverted from Malaysian state development fund 1MDB in a money-laundering scheme, to finance the film. Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring DiCaprio as real-life convicted stockbroker Jordan Belfort “The Wolf of Wall Street,” went on to make $400 million at the worldwide box office, get five Oscar nominations, and win a Golden Globe for the popular actor. The lawsuits aim to seize the proceeds from the 2013 film. Now back in the spotlight, the rollicking tale of drugs, sex and money laundering should make tens of millions of dollars more, industry analysts said. “A film like ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ with DiCaprio and Scorsese is an evergreen property and it could easily make another $100 million in the near future,” said Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations. The renewed attention on the film won’t hurt either. “All the talk just helps remind people about the movie,” Bock said.
Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for global media measurement company comScore, said it was the kind of movie that does well for years. In a statement, Red Granite said that to its knowledge, none of the funding it received four years ago was illegitimate and that co-founder
Riza Aziz and the company did nothing wrong. Riza Aziz is the stepson of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who oversaw the 1MDB fund. The court papers mention “Hollywood Actor 1” and a source familiar with the matter said that referred to DiCaprio. It said he became associated with a Malaysian man named Jho Low, who distributed more than $10 million to the production company using 1MDB money and later received a “special thanks” in the film credits. This was an anti-elite, man-of- the-people pitch from someone with a riches-to-riches back story and a father who frequently brags about attending Wharton Business School. But the inconsistency didn’t seem to matter. Donald Jr provided the most compelling character testimonial of his father’s candidacy, while also attacking his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Tiffany Trump, a recent college graduate and perhaps the least known of his children, also delivered an articulate and extremely composed speech. “I have admired my father all of my life, and I love him with all of my heart,” she beamed while sharing warm and personal anecdotes aimed at highlighting his softer side. “My father’s desire for excellence is contagious,” she said and so it would appear the Trump clan is a pretty politically persuasive tool, too. They are a constant feature on the campaign trail and could prove to be Trump’s greatest asset. The businessman’s attack-dog-in-chief, Governor Chris Christie, was combative, playing on his role as a former prosecutor to stage a mock trial, with Hillary Clinton as the defendant. “Answer me now, is she guilt or not guilty?” he asked the baying crowd. They responded by shouting: “Lock her up.” It was a punchy, aggressive approach from a man who has remained loyal, despite missing out on the VP pick. Ben Carson, another of Trump’s former rivals, also took to the stage to defend his former foe. In a sign of how febrile the rhetoric has become, he appeared to link Hillary Clinton to Lucifer. The comments were not on his teleprompter, but he warned he wasn’t “politically correct” from the start. This is probably the only time Trump will be able to control his message fully and yet, despite all the vetting, there is still an unruly, unpredictable feel about this convention. By Tuesday, he’d already flown back to New York but promised to return with his VP. There are a noticeable number of empty seats and the roll call seemed somewhat subdued compared with previous conventions. This is the candidate who defies political gravity, but he must prove here that he and his team have the discipline and organisation to make it to the White House. Besides, the regent will optimize the programs associated with poverty such as scholarship program for the poor, family hope program (PKH), house refurbishment, productive economic business and joint business program. “We will also optimize the provision of social security through KIS, KIP, KKS and other programs,” he explained. Last Wednesday, the regent through his deputy also claimed that the poverty rate in Bangli can have been successfully reduced all this time. The decline reached approximately 1.65 percent. “Based on the data of Central Statistics Agency (BPS)
in 2014, the poverty rate in Bangli district could be reduced from 5.45 percent to 3.8 percent. As field observation on Wednesday (Jul. 20), the worst leakage was seen on the second floor at Block B. Some parts of the roof in the occupied kiosk building are in poor condition and leaking. So, when it rains the water directly gets into the kiosk and floods the ground floor. More seriously, the rainwater does not get any handling. As a result, it directly went down and flooded the ground floor. Surely this condition is complained by the merchants on the ground floor. Moreover, most merchandise on sale on the ground floor is made of cloth. To get around the water so as not to get into the kiosks, some merchants put newspapers on the floor. In addition, they also put some trash cans to collect rainwater at leaking point. Unavoidably, such condition looks dirty for visitors.
“Condition like this has lasted for a year. Just now there were some officers coming here to check,” said a cloth merchant named Mrs. Wayan. In the meantime, Chief of the Klungkung Market, Komang Putra Widiasa, when asked for his confirmation did not dismiss if many parts of the roof of Semarapura Market at block B are leaking. The leakage is alleged to occur because it is not occupied by the kiosk owners. His institution cannot make improvement because all the kiosks in block B are privately owned. “For that matter, simply ask directly to the head of the agency. A month after that vote, clothing sellers are nursing big share price falls and contemplating the cost of the depreciation in the pound versus their most important currency, the U.S. dollar. At the same time, consumer confidence has recorded one of the biggest drops in over two decades. With consumer spending accounting for three quarters of Britain’s gross domestic product any drop would have huge implications for the economy. While a few retailers with big overseas earnings could benefit from the currency move, such as luxury brand Burberry , online fashion retailer ASOS and discount chain Primark, those that will struggle are likely to be British-focused and with already tight margins. “It was already a tough market,” Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, Britain’s biggest department store chain, said earlier this month, while Steve Rowe, CEO of Marks & Spencer, the nation’s biggest clothing retailer, described confidence as “fragile”. While steps by clothing retailers to protect themselves from volatility in foreign exchange rates through hedging will provide some breathing space on the currency issue, the hit to confidence is the more immediate threat as Britons typically curtail clothes shopping in hard times. Market researcher Nielsen polled shoppers after the Brexit vote and found 41 percent planned to change their spending habits to save on household expenses, with clothing and expensive grocery brands in their sights. In common with all British retailers, clothing sellers were already grappling with intense competition from online-only players and the cost inflation implications of the government-mandated
minimum pay rate, the national living wage, as well as increased business rates. Official data on Thursday showed UK clothing sales were falling even before the referendum. Sales volumes in the three months to June were 5 percent lower than a year earlier - the worst performance for any calendar quarter in 25 years, and in sharp contrast to a buoyant picture for most other categories of retail. Now clothing retailers also have to deal with a sharply depreciated pound.

Sterling has taken the brunt of market concern since the Brexit vote on June 23, falling to a 31-year low and trading below $1.28 on July 6 against $1.50 the day before the referendum. With the bulk of British clothing retailers’ goods sourced from Asian suppliers and paid for in dollars, a weaker pound has a major impact on their buying costs. Britain’s biggest clothing retailers, including M&S, Next and John Lewis, are hedged up to 18 months ahead, meaning that if sterling stays depressed the main impact will not start to be felt until the second half of their 2017-18 financial year. Sportswear retailer Sports Direct is the notable exception, being unhedged for sterling-dollar for its 2016-17 year. Its share price is down 32 percent since the vote. Clothing companies would normally be expected to hedge for the second half of 2017-18 and beyond, now and over the next few months. But with foreign currency markets volatile, the treasury departments of firms are reviewing their hedging policies. M&S’ chief finance officer, noting the firm imports 1 billion to 1.5 billion pounds ($1.31-$1.97 billion) worth of goods each year in dollars. Options include changing the mix of sourcing countries and further increasing the proportion of direct sourcing from factories, cutting out middlemen. Also there might be scope to re-negotiate better terms with suppliers as Asian currencies have depreciated against the dollar. Bankers say more radical options would require a cultural shift at retailers. They could pursue “dual pricing” where they negotiate part payment for supplies in different currencies from the dollar, for example using the Chinese renminbi. Retailers could also collaborate more on ordering, shipping and warehousing to seek economy of scale savings. But efficiencies might be more difficult to achieve than in previous years. “Companies have already materially improved their gross margins through better buying and efficiencies on the supply side,” said Ernesto Bisagno, senior analyst at ratings agency Moody’s. Ultimately the clothing sellers with the biggest margins will be best able to weather the storm. Here, Next, Britain’s most successful clothing retailer of the last decade, is the stand-out stock, with an operating margin for 2015-16 of 20.8 percent, according to Reuters data. That dwarfs M&S on 7.4 percent, which is diluted by half of its business being in the lowermargin food sector, Debenhams on 5.8 percent (for 2014-15), Sports Direct on 9.4 percent and Primark on 11.9 percent (for its most recent quarter). Led by Simon Wolfson, who was among the leading business supporters of Brexit, Next should be well prepared. which the reshuffle would happen have not yet been determined, the sources said. However, they added the matter was being actively discussed at LVMH. LVMH declined to comment when contacted before publication. Later, LVMH denied the “erroneous information that Nicolas
Ghesquiere might soon leave as artistic director of Louis Vuitton”. Ghesquiere’s contract is not due for renewal until the end of 2018, a spokesman said. Should pass on aspiration about rejection to president
DENPASAR - Coordinator of ForBALI, Wayan ‘Gendo’ Suardana, urged the Bali House of Representatives to release political standpoint related to the Benoa Bay reclamation. In this case, he urged the governor to send a letter invoking the president to revoke the Presidential Regulation No. 51/2014 that was formerly proposed by Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika. It does not merely encourage the governor to ask in person to president about the reclamation issue. “It also includes asking Mangku Pastika to stop the actions supporting the Benoa Bay reclamation and immediately take side with Balinese people. That’s what should be done, not even on the contrary as happens today tending to take safe zone and abandon responsibility,” he said. The Bali House of Representatives, continued Gendo, should issue the same political standpoint by requesting the cancellation of the regulation to the president. So, he also asked the president to cancel the Benoa Bay reclamation, fulfill and implement the people’s demands as well as side with Balinese people. “If only showing the standpoint as it is today, the existence of parliament is useless. This struggle has lasted four years,” he said. In the meantime, Chairman of the Bali Dwipa Care Forum, Gede Bangun Nusantara, said that what to be brought by the governor and
the Bali House of Representatives is not even asking the continuation of the reclamation project. However, he must bring a statement containing the rejection attitude of Balinese people against the Benoa Bay reclamation project. “It will happen if they realize as Balinese people’s representatives. Obviously, when the rejection of Balinese people is getting more massive, why do the governor and the parliament seem blind and deaf? Governor and chairman of the parliament should immediately meet the president and express the rejection of Balinese people against the reclamation. Statement of this attitude is still being waited by Balinese people so far, but both parties seem mutual leave their responsibility,” he explained. Bangun confirmed that if there is no personal interest therein, the governor and parliament should make a statement of attitude that rejects the reclamation based on the rejection of the majority of the community. “Keep in mind that the legal basis used by Jakarta is the recommendation of the governor and deputy regent of Badung currently becoming deputy governor. Thus, armed with the recommendation, the reclamation process is able to go on. Suppose that the governor revokes it, the subsequent permits will definitely void. TABANAN - A total of 90 hectares of paddy plants spread across many areas of Tabanan are threatened by harvest failure due to the attack of pests, one of which is mouse attack. The highest case occurred to 71 hectares in Penebel subdistrict. Of the 90 hectares of farmland experiencing total harvest failure, 36 hectares occurred at Subak Tingkih Kerep, Penebel. In addition, based on the data of the Tabanan Agriculture Agency, total harvest failure also occurred at Subak Babakan, Wanasari and Subak Gunggungan, Wanasari village respectively one hectare, Subak Riang of Sengkulung sub-group, Riang Gede village, Penebel (5 ha), Subak Cepik, Penebel (30 ha) and Subak Tuka, Baturiti (15 ha). “These data are obtained from the period of January 2016 through June 2016,” explained POPT Coordinator of

BUSINESS U.S.’s Lew urges Greece to stay on budget reform path
ATHENS - U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Thursday urged Greek officials to make more progress on budget and economic reforms to help unlock European debt relief and boost growth in the struggling Greek economy. Following a meeting with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos in Athens, Lew said Greece needed “to make headway on the next set of milestones due in October, including by following through on privatisation plans and moving forward with critical financial sector reforms.” He told a news conference there were multiple ways to make Greece’s debt more sustainable, including easing its primary budget surplus target of 3.5 percent of gross domestic product in 2018. Although the International Monetary Fund has said this target is too high and cannot realistically be achieved, Lew said it was up to Greece and its lenders to reach a formula that is sustainable. “In the end, it has to work,” he said. Lew said reform progress was important so that European leaders can begin discussing with the IMF the timing and details of Greek debt relief, which Eurogroup lenders committed to pursuing in May. LONDON - Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda ruled out the idea of using “helicopter money” - or directly underwriting the budget deficit - to combat deflation, as policymakers in Tokyo gear up to expand existing stimulus programmes. Japanese markets have risen this month on speculation that authorities, battling to revive an economy dogged by decades of anaemic inflation, will resort to using helicopter money, possibly issuing perpetual bonds to underwrite public debt. But in a BBC interview broadcast on Thursday, Kuroda said the central bank already had mechanisms in place to ease policy further if needed, and that Japan should not forfeit a clear separation between fiscal and monetary institutions. “I don’t think at this stage we should abandon this institutional setting. No need and no possibility for helicopter money,” Kuroda told the radio documentary. The yen shot up after Kuroda’s comments, hitting a high of 116.44 yen per euro, up 1 percent on the day. A BOJ spokesman said Kuroda was reiterating his usual stance. The date of the interview was not clear. Last week a senior advisor to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told Reuters that Japan should not resort to helicopter money. A majority of economists polled by Reuters this week ex-
pected the BOJ to ease policy later this month, forecasting a combination of measures in another attempt to kick-start inflation. Kuroda, who was interviewed in his office in Tokyo, said the BOJ had three existing policy options: quantitative and qualitative easing, and negative interest rates. “If necessary, we can change the quantity, as well as further change and expand the quality (of assets purchased), and also we can further deepen (into) negative territory of interest imposed on part of the current account deposits (from) commercial banks,” he said. “We have very powerful policy framework, and I don’t think there’s any significant limitation of further easing of monetary conditions in Japan, if necessary.” Speaking on the same BBC programme, Bank of England Chief Economist Andrew Haldane said low interest rates and bondbuying schemes since the financial crisis might have led to some markets overheating sometimes, but there was no evidence this had become widespread. For Dewa Yajna rituals, caruk gamelan is played during the mamungkah rite. It is played at the peak of the ritual when the deities circle the offerings clockwise –known as murwa daksina” he elaborated. Head of Pau customary village’s caruk gamelan troupe, I Wayan Suendra, said that this gamelan instrument is a rare and sacred instrument. Caruk gamelan consists of two small xylophones and one saron that are always played together. “We also have an extra player so for the BAF performance

Suendra added that nine different caruk gamelan compositions were handed down by the ancestors, however because the palm-leaf manuscripts on which they were written are hard to read, only five of the compositions are played. All five were performed at this year’s BAF: the Tabuh Ririgan, Tabuh Rejang, Tabuh Ombak Segara, Tabuh Panji Marga and Tabuh Manu Kaba. “For a very long time only five of the compositions can be played because of the difficulty in reading the lontars, but we are determined to find a way to read the others so that we can perform them in next year’s BAF”, explained Suendra. Currently, there are only four people in Pau customary village who are actively involved playing gamelan so Suendra is eager to encourage younger people to learn to play. “The notation for caruk gamelan music is different than other gamelan so it is harder to learn. Turkey’s Erdogan declares state of emergency after coup bid
ISTANBUL - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of emergency on Wednesday as he widened a crackdown against thousands of members of the security forces, judiciary, civil service and academia after a failed military coup. Erdogan said the state of emergency, lasting three months, would allow his government to take swift and decisive measures against supporters of the coup and was allowed under the constitution. Emergency rule, which would take effect after it is published in Turkey’s official gazette, would allow the president and cabinet to bypass parliament in passing new laws and to limit or suspend rights and freedoms as they deem necessary. Erdogan made the announcement during a live television broadcast in front of his government

General Assembly session in New York in September. Russian Olympic ban upheld by CAS
LAUSANNE - Sport’s highest tribunal on Thursday rejected Russia’s appeal against a doping ban for its entire athletics team from the Rio Olympics starting in 15 days’ time, drawing swift and angry condemnation from Moscow. The decision by the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) increases the possibility that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will now exclude Russia from all sports, not just track and field, in Rio de Janeiro. That would mark the deepest crisis in the Olympic movement since the U.S. and Soviet boycotts of the 1980s, and would be a grave blow to a nation that prides itself on its status as a sporting superpower. “CAS rejects the claims/appeal of the Russian Olympic Committee and 68 Russian athletes,” CAS said in a statement that backed the right the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to suspend the Russian athletics federation. Turkey’s Erdogan declares state of emergency after coup bid
ISTANBUL - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of emergency on Wednesday as he widened a crackdown against thousands of members of the security forces, judiciary, civil service and academia after a failed military coup. Erdogan said the state of emergency, lasting three months, would allow his government to take swift and decisive measures against supporters of the coup and was allowed under the constitution. Emergency rule, which would take effect after it is published in Turkey’s official gazette, would allow the president and cabinet to bypass parliament in passing new laws and to limit or suspend rights and freedoms as they deem necessary. Erdogan made the announcement during a live television broadcast in front of his government
ministers after a nearly five-hour meeting of the National Security Council. “The aim of the declaration of the state of emergency is to be able to take fast and effective steps against this threat against democracy, the rule of law and rights and freedoms of our citizens,” Erdogan said. He also pointedly rebuffed criticism from Western governments that have accused him of going too far in efforts to neutralize suspected opponents. About 60,000 soldiers, police, judges, civil servants and teachers have been suspended,
detained or are under investigation since Friday’s military coup attempt. YANGON - Myanmar government leader Aung San Suu Kyi has accepted an invitation from President Barack Obama to visit the United States, the government said on Thursday, in what would be her first trip to America since she won an election in November. BUSINESS U.S.’s Lew urges Greece to stay on budget reform path
ATHENS - U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Thursday urged Greek officials to make more progress on budget and economic reforms to help unlock European debt relief and boost growth in the struggling Greek economy. Following a meeting with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos in Athens, Lew said Greece needed “to make headway on the next set of milestones due in October, including by following through on privatisation plans and moving forward with critical financial sector reforms.” He told a news conference there were multiple ways to make Greece’s debt more sustainable, including easing its primary budget surplus target of 3.5 percent of gross domestic product in 2018. Although the International Monetary Fund has said this target is too high and cannot realistically be achieved, Lew said it was up to Greece and its lenders to reach a formula that is sustainable. “In the end, it has to work,” he said. Lew said reform progress was important so that European leaders can begin discussing with the IMF the timing and details of Greek debt relief, which Eurogroup lenders committed to pursuing in May. LONDON - Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda ruled out the idea of using “helicopter money” - or directly underwriting the budget deficit - to combat deflation, as policymakers in Tokyo gear up to expand existing stimulus programmes. Japanese markets have risen this month on speculation that authorities, battling to revive an economy dogged by decades of anaemic inflation, will resort to using helicopter money, possibly issuing perpetual bonds to underwrite public debt. But in a BBC interview broadcast on Thursday, Kuroda said the central bank already had mechanisms in place to ease policy further if needed, and that Japan should not forfeit a clear separation between fiscal and monetary institutions. “I don’t think at this stage we should abandon this institutional setting. No need and no possibility for helicopter money,” Kuroda told the radio documentary. The yen shot up after Kuroda’s comments, hitting a high of 116.44 yen per euro, up 1 percent on the day. A BOJ spokesman said Kuroda was reiterating his usual stance. The date of the interview was not clear. Last week a senior advisor to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told Reuters that Japan should not resort to helicopter money. A majority of economists polled by Reuters this week ex-
pected the BOJ to ease policy later this month, forecasting a combination of measures in another attempt to kick-start inflation. Kuroda, who was interviewed in his office in Tokyo, said the BOJ had three existing policy options: quantitative and qualitative easing, and negative interest rates. “If necessary, we can change the quantity, as well as further change and expand the quality (of assets purchased), and also we can further deepen (into) negative territory of interest imposed on part of the current account deposits (from) commercial banks,” he said. “We have very powerful policy framework, and I don’t think there’s any significant limitation of further easing of monetary conditions in Japan, if necessary.” Speaking on the same BBC programme, Bank of England Chief Economist Andrew Haldane said low interest rates and bondbuying schemes since the financial crisis might have led to some markets overheating sometimes, but there was no evidence this had become widespread. Pau Village and Tangkas Village are the only places in Klungkung where caruk gamlean can be found, said Sukirta adding that they are only played for Deva Yajna and Pitri Yajna religious cermonies. “For Pitri Yajna rituals, caruk gamelan is played during the cremation ceremony during menek tumpang salu, menek bea and mapurwadaksina rites that culminate in the nyekah ritual. For Dewa Yajna rituals, caruk gamelan is played during the mamungkah rite. It is played at the peak of the ritual when the deities circle the offerings clockwise –known as murwa daksina” he elaborated. Head of Pau customary village’s caruk gamelan troupe, I Wayan Suendra, said that this gamelan instrument is a rare and sacred instrument. Caruk gamelan consists of two small xylophones and one saron that are always played together. “We also have an extra player so for the BAF performance
there were four musicians” he Suendra. Suendra added that nine different caruk gamelan compositions were handed down by the ancestors, however because the palm-leaf manuscripts on which they were written are hard to read, only five of the compositions are played. All five were performed at this year’s BAF: the Tabuh Ririgan, Tabuh Rejang, Tabuh Ombak Segara, Tabuh Panji Marga and Tabuh Manu Kaba. “For a very long time only five of the compositions can be played because of the difficulty in reading the lontars, but we are determined to find a way to read the others so that we can perform them in next year’s BAF”, explained Suendra. Currently, there are only four people in Pau customary village who are actively involved playing gamelan so Suendra is eager to encourage younger people to learn to play. “The notation for caruk gamelan music is different than other gamelan so it is harder to learn. It takes many years to master. After the BAF we will start to teach young children, which may take even longer”, he said. (kmb)

TABANAN - A total of 90 hectares of paddy plants spread across many areas of Tabanan are threatened by harvest failure due to the attack of pests, one of which is mouse attack. The highest case occurred to 71 hectares in Penebel subdistrict. Of the 90 hectares of farmland experiencing total harvest failure, 36 hectares occurred at Subak Tingkih Kerep, Penebel. In addition, based on the data of the Tabanan Agriculture Agency, total harvest failure also occurred at Subak Babakan, Wanasari and Subak Gunggungan, Wanasari village respectively one hectare, Subak Riang of Sengkulung sub-group, Riang Gede village, Penebel (5 ha), Subak Cepik, Penebel (30 ha) and Subak Tuka, Baturiti (15 ha). “These data are obtained from the period of January 2016 through June 2016,” explained POPT Coordinator of

This effort is made so that the pest attack will not spread to other areas. “Especially for the prevention of mouse, we have distributed the needs of Tyrant mouse poison in every activity of fumigation and hunting. A month after that vote, clothing sellers are nursing big share price falls and contemplating the cost of the depreciation in the pound versus their most important currency, the U.S. dollar. At the same time, consumer confidence has recorded one of the biggest drops in over two decades. With consumer spending accounting for three quarters of Britain’s gross domestic product any drop would have huge implications for the economy. While a few retailers with big overseas earnings could benefit from the currency move, such as luxury brand Burberry , online fashion retailer ASOS and discount chain Primark, those that will struggle are likely to be British-focused and with already tight margins. “It was already a tough market,” Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, Britain’s biggest department store chain, said earlier this month, while Steve Rowe, CEO of Marks & Spencer, the nation’s biggest clothing retailer, described confidence as “fragile”. While steps by clothing retailers to protect themselves from volatility in foreign exchange rates through hedging will provide some breathing space on the currency issue, the hit to confidence is the more immediate threat as Britons typically curtail clothes shopping in hard times. Market researcher Nielsen polled shoppers after the Brexit vote and found 41 percent planned to change their spending habits to save on household expenses, with clothing and expensive grocery brands in their sights. In common with all British retailers, clothing sellers were already grappling with intense competition from online-only players and the cost inflation implications of the government-mandated

DENPASAR - Coordinator of ForBALI, Wayan ‘Gendo’ Suardana, urged the Bali House of Representatives to release political standpoint related to the Benoa Bay reclamation. In this case, he urged the governor to send a letter invoking the president to revoke the Presidential Regulation No. 51/2014 that was formerly proposed by Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika. It does not merely encourage the governor to ask in person to president about the reclamation issue. “It also includes asking Mangku Pastika to stop the actions supporting the Benoa Bay reclamation and immediately take side with Balinese people. As field observation on Wednesday (Jul. 20), the worst leakage was seen on the second floor at Block B. Some parts of the roof in the occupied kiosk building are in poor condition and leaking. So, when it rains the water directly gets into the kiosk and floods the ground floor. More seriously, the rainwater does not get any handling. As a result, it directly went down and flooded the ground floor. Surely this condition is complained by the merchants on the ground floor. Moreover, most merchandise on sale on the ground floor is made of cloth. To get around the water so as not to get into the kiosks, some merchants put newspapers on the floor. In addition, they also put some trash cans to collect rainwater at leaking point. Unavoidably, such condition looks dirty for visitors.
“Condition like this has lasted for a year. Just now there were some officers coming here to check,” said a cloth merchant named Mrs. Wayan. In the meantime, Chief of the Klungkung Market, Komang Putra Widiasa, when asked for his confirmation did not dismiss if many parts of the roof of Semarapura Market at block B are leaking. NEW YORK - Leonardo DiCaprio bought the movie rights for what would be “The Wolf of Wall Street” back in 2007. But it wasn’t until a little-known Hollywood production company came along six years later that the story of high-rolling fraudsters got off the ground. On Wednesday, the Malaysian co-founder of that company, Red Granite Pictures, was accused in U.S. civil lawsuits of using $100 million dollars that was diverted from Malaysian state development fund 1MDB in a money-laundering scheme, to finance the film. Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring DiCaprio as real-life convicted stockbroker Jordan Belfort “The Wolf of Wall Street,” went on to make $400 million at the worldwide box office, get five Oscar nominations, and win a Golden Globe for the popular actor. The lawsuits aim to seize the proceeds from the 2013 film. Now back in the spotlight, the rollicking tale of drugs, sex and money laundering should make tens of millions of dollars more, industry analysts said. “A film like ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ with DiCaprio and Scorsese is an evergreen property and it could easily make another $100 million in the near future,” said Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations. The renewed attention on the film won’t hurt either. “All the talk just helps remind people about the movie,” Bock said.

This was an anti-elite, man-of- the-people pitch from someone with a riches-to-riches back story and a father who frequently brags about attending Wharton Business School. But the inconsistency didn’t seem to matter. Donald Jr provided the most compelling character testimonial of his father’s candidacy, while also attacking his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Tiffany Trump, a recent college graduate and perhaps the least known of his children, also delivered an articulate and extremely composed speech. “I have admired my father all of my life, and I love him with all of my heart,” she beamed while sharing warm and personal anecdotes aimed at highlighting his softer side. “My father’s desire for excellence is contagious,” she said and so it would appear the Trump clan is a pretty politically persuasive tool, too. They are a constant feature on the campaign trail and could prove to be Trump’s greatest asset. The businessman’s attack-dog-in-chief, Governor Chris Christie, was combative, playing on his role as a former prosecutor to stage a mock trial, with Hillary Clinton as the defendant. “Answer me now, is she guilt or not guilty?” he asked the baying crowd. They responded by shouting: “Lock her up.” It was a punchy, aggressive approach from a man who has remained loyal, despite missing out on the VP pick. Ben Carson, another of Trump’s former rivals, also took to the stage to defend his former foe. In a sign of how febrile the rhetoric has become, he appeared to link Hillary Clinton to Lucifer. The comments were not on his teleprompter, but he warned he wasn’t “politically correct” from the start. This is probably the only time Trump will be able to control his message fully and yet, despite all the vetting, there is still an unruly, unpredictable feel about this convention. By Tuesday, he’d already flown back to New York but promised to return with his VP. There are a noticeable number of empty seats and the roll call seemed somewhat subdued compared with previous conventions. This is the candidate who defies political gravity, but he must prove here that he and his team have the discipline and organisation to make it to the White House.
