UNIONDALE, N.Y. — WWE superstar John Cena granted his 300th wish to a 7-yearold Pennsylvania boy with a spinal condition, continuing his streak as the most popular celebrity granter in Make-A-Wish Foundation history. Jonny Littman wanted to meet his hero, and the WWE accommodated that wish Monday night before an episode of “Raw” live from New York’s Long Island. But Jonny got a bonus to his wish. On Wednesday morning, Jonny was being interviewed on “Good Morning America” when Sam Champion asked him about his green Tshirt. After Jonny told him it was John Cena, Champion asked if anyone knew the WWE Superstar. The pro wrestler and actor walked out to Jonny’s surprise and presented him with another gift. This time it was tickets for him and his family to attend the 1,000th episode of the WWE show. To put Cena’s 300 granted wishes in perspective, Michael Jordan has granted around 200 and Kobe Bryant is in the 100-wish range. “I truly give hats off to Make-A-Wish for keeping statistics,” Cena said Monday before the show. “They had a nice little celebration for me at 200, and I humbly said we should do it at 1,000. “We’re just getting started,” he said enthusi-

astically. But Cena was clearly touched by the latest one. “I’m just flattered completely that I could be the wish,” he said. Jonny, from Hop Bottom, Pa., has severe congenital malformation and spina bifida and uses a wheelchair. He spoke to his hero for a few minutes and took some pictures with him. He even put on his WWE Championship belt. His mother, Ruth, says his surgeons wore it during his last surgery. After signing T-shirts and WWE merchandise and presenting him with a videogame system, the superstar graciously walked out of the room. Cena prepared for his featured match, and Jonny and his family waited to go into the Nassau Coliseum for a live televised weekly show, “Raw.” After he left the room, Jonny chanted: “Cena. John Cena. Cena.”

Yunus said the injured crew member had been taken to hospital and added that the military would look into the cause of the crash. Fishermen facing hard time to catch lobster Tabanan (Bali Post) –

The Tabanan fishermen lately got worried as their lobster production didn’t go well and so to avoid any further disadvantages, they chose to take a break, park their boats along the beach. The rarity has occurred this past three weeks where maximum they would only capture half kilogram while fighting the great sea current. The high fee needed to go to the sea also has caused them to take the break as stated by Head of Indonesian Fishermen Group (HNSI) for Tabanan, Ketut Arsana Yasa alias Sadam, last Wednesday (20/6). He added the fishermen usually use 30-40 unit bubu to capture 1-3 kg per day. Residents have lunch together at cemetery ENDLESS tradition on the celebration of Pagerwesi Day is a crowd at cemetery. As happened on the Pagerwesi Day, Wednesday (Jun 20), residents came to cemetery and presented food oblation (punjung). Having presented the offering, people then ate together in the cemetery area. As consequence, the cemetery turned crowded just like a city park. At the cemetery of Buleleng customary village, for instance, people whose family member had died began to flock the cemetery. They came with a variety of ritual means such as oblation, canang and incense. In the face of their family’s tomb, the residents coming in groups seemed to pray solemnly. Then, it was resumed with having meals together. “We regularly perform this kind of ritual on

The drought haunting Tabanan made a number of farmers change their profession. Some chose to grow vegetables to avoid losses. This was also carried out by farmers at Sudimara village, Tabanan, Wednesday (Jun 20). Water crisis was taken advantage to grow vegetables belonging to goose weed species. Aside from saving water, its maintenance was easy. Lucratively, farmers could harvest earlier than growing rice. “If growing rice, we have to wait for a little longer,” said Men Giri, one of the local farmers. She told that growing vegetables did not take her much time. Vegetable seeds were planted and then watered for several times. If they set to dry up, farmers would only need to drain water. Likewise, tts fertilization process was not too complicated. By and large, the vegetable could be harvested after a month old. After that it could be harvested almost every day.

“It’s fair to middling, our daily harvest can increase the income,” she said. The vegetable was marketed to Denpasar through collectors. According to Men Giri, in the harvest season, she could produce 10 kilograms of vegetable a day and the price was not bad. She added that her party deliberately grew vegetables in several lots of her rice field because if she grew rice it would take her three months to wait for harvest. Meanwhile, vegetable only took one month and the operational cost was relatively cheap. Farmers only required seeds and few kilograms of fertilizer. Its maintenance process was also easy. More lucratively, vegetable was rarely attacked by pests. Unlike growing rice, it might be attacked by various types of pests such as mice, tungro and grasshoppers. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Several experts say there’s no hard evidence to support the federal government’s declaration this month that 50 kinds of cancer could be caused by exposure to World Trade Center dust. The decision could help hundreds of people get payouts from a multibillion-dollar World Trade Center health fund to repay those ailing after they breathed in toxic dust created by the collapsing twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001. But scientists say there is little research to prove that exposure to the toxic dust plume caused even one kind of cancer. And many acknowledge the payouts to cancer patients could take money away from those suffering from illnesses more definitively linked

to Sept. 11, like asthma and some types of lung disease. “To imagine that there is strong evidence about any cancer resulting from 9/11 is naive in the extreme,” said Donald Berry, a biostatistics professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Yet this month, Dr. John Howard, who heads the federal agency that researches workplace illnesses, added scores of common and rare cancers to a list that had previously

included just 12 ailments caused by dust exposure. Lung, skin, breast and thyroid cancer were among those added; of the most common types of cancer, only prostate cancer was excluded. “We recognize how personal the issue of cancer and all of the health conditions related to the World Trade Center tragedy are to 9/11 responders, survivors and their loved ones,” Howard said in a June 8 statement.

The U.S. filed a lawsuit against the skeletal property a day earlier, seeking to seize it for an eventual return to Mongolia. The lawsuit said the Tyrannosaurus bataar skeleton was brought in March 2010 from Great Britain to Gainesville, Fla., with erroneous claims that it had originated in Great Britain and was worth only $15,000. It sold at auction on May 20 for more than $1 million, though the sale was contingent upon the outcome of court proceedings. Jim Halperin, cofounder of the The Heritage Auctions, the dinosaur’s Dallas-based custodian, has said a consignor bought the fossils in good faith and spent a year and considerable expense restoring them.

Killings have occurred in at least 34 countries, from Brazil to Egypt, and in both developing and developed nations, according to an Associated Press review of data and interviews. A report released Tuesday by the London-based Global Witness said more than 700 people — more than one a week — died in the decade ending 2011 “defending their human rights or the rights of others related to the environment, specifically land and forests.” They were killed, the environmental investigation group says, during protests or investigations into mining, logging, intensive agriculture, hydropower dams, urban development and wildlife poaching. The death toll reached 96 in 2010 and 106 last year, said the report, which was released as world leaders gathered in Rio de Janeiro for a conference on sustainable development. The report’s annual totals for the six prior years range from 37 in 2004 to 64 in 2008. More than three-quarters of the killings Global Witness tallied were in three South American countries: Brazil, Colombia and Peru. Another 50 deaths occurred in the Philippines. All have bloody land-rights struggles between indigenous groups and powerful industries.

DENPASAR - The Balinese song parade that showing performance of various artists from regencies and city in Bali lose their shine because of poor sound system. Audiences upset because they can’t hear clearly what the artists sang. Not only regular audiences that feel disappointed by those performances, Mayor of Denpasar, IB Rai D. Mantra and Wife of vice Governor Bali, Bintang Puspayoga, also felt the same.

According to release by Denpasar Government PR, audiences felt sorry for the un-well prepared sound system and blamed committee of Bali Art Festival for the wrong doing. Artists that performed on the stage have to repeat their song over and over again because their voice can’t be heard by audiences. Not only the sound system, according to journalists that covered the event, back light on the stage also bothering because it made them uncomfortable and hard to find good angles for pictures.

Security situation of Denpasar sets to turn unsafe again. Not only home burglary, motor theft and grabbing, but car crowbarring seems more ubiquitous as well. Evidently, within the past a week, two residents reported if their car was crowbarred by criminals. The culprits targeted at their tape and speedometer. Both victims respectively named I Ketut Sudiksa and Sapto. Honda Jazz of Sudiksa was crowbarred when parked on Jalan Kebo Iwa Utara, Denpasar, precisely beside the gas station at 11:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday (Jun 19). A set of tape and speedometer of his car was taken out by culprit. “The crime scene was crowded, but no one saw if the victim’s car was crowbarred,” a police source said on Wednesday (Jun 20). Allegedly, the culprit originally crowbarred the car door and after being successful the culprit took

the tape and speedometer. It could be seen from the traces of crowbarring on the door. Even, the action of culprit was committed very neatly, chiefly when removing the tape and speedometer. “The way to cut the cord was very nice. Probably, the culprit was a specialist in door crowbarring and targeting at tape and speedometer,” said the source. The source refusing to be named said due to such incident the victim suffered a loss of IDR 10 million. Meanwhile, a few days earlier a similar action also afflicted a KIA car belonging to Sapto. His car was parked in the parking lot around Buana hamlet, Padang Sambian village, Denpasar, Monday (Jun 11). It was crowbarred and the culprit took away its tape and speedometer. “Their mode is the same, namely by crowbarring and taking out the tape and speedometer. The run-off, which took place on June 16 and 17 pitted Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi against Mubarak’s last prime minister Ahmed Shafiq, with both candidates claiming victory. The election commission said it was looking into appeals from lawyers of both candidates into alleged campaign violations and disputed vote counting.

The commission said it would “continue examining the appeals... which will require more time before the final results are announced.” The announcement came amid uncertainty over the health of Mubarak, following a flurry of reports about his condition. Mubarak “is not clinically dead,” a medical source told AFP. “He is in a coma and the doctors are trying to revive him.” “He has been placed on an artificial respirator,” the source added, in an account confirmed by a member of Egypt’s ruling military council, who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity. TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. has been hammered by the strong yen, putting extra pressure on the automaker to stay lean and come up with new innovations to ride out the challenge, a senior executive said Thursday. Toyota Executive Vice President Atsushi Niimi acknowledged competition was growing extremely tough with South Korean makers, including Hyundai Motor Co., which have the advantage of a weaker currency. Toyota, founded in 1937, has long believed scale can backfire and has relied on “just in time” production, or manufacturing only as much as there is demand for. When it still lacked money and technology to compete against the more powerful U.S. automakers, it resorted to raising the efficiency of, and empowering each worker. Toyota was on a steady growth path through 2007, but stumbled with the financial crisis and its massive global recalls three years ago. The earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan last year followed by flooding in Thailand, which disrupted supplies, added to its woes. Niimi acknowledged Japanese manufacturing faces tough times. Along with the strong yen, Japan fell behind Korea in promoting free trade, he said.

The move means that Britain will become the first country to make it compulsory for companies to include emissions data for their entire organizations in their annual reports. At a side event at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Clegg said that the reporting would help corporations and investors identify potential areas of savings that can be made through energy efficiency. “Counting your business costs while hiding your greenhouse gas emissions is a false economy,” he was quoted as saying in a statement issued by Britain’s environment department. “British companies need to reduce

their harmful emissions for the benefit of the planet, but many back our plans because being energy-efficient makes good business sense, too. “It saves companies money on energy bills, improves their reputation with customers and helps them manage their long-term costs, too.” The regulations have been under discussion between government and business for months. They will be introduced from the start of the next financial year in April and be reviewed in 2015, pending a decision whether the requirement should be extended to all large companies from 2016.

SHANGHAI - China is proposing to slash the asset requirements for foreign institutions wanting to invest in its stock markets as it seeks to boost foreign investment and open up its capital markets. Foreign individuals are barred from investing directly in China’s markets, but the country allows certain institutions to buy shares under the so-called Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) scheme. A proposal released by the securities regulator on Wednesday would see the amount of assets foreign institutions must hold to gain access to China’s markets reduced from $5 billion to $500 million. The China Securities Regulatory Commission also plans to raise the maximum stake foreign institutions can hold in a listed Chinese company to 30 percent from 20 percent, and allow them

to enter the interbank bond market. The latest moves to relax restrictions came after Beijing in April nearly tripled the amount of money selected foreign institutions can invest in Chinese stocks, bonds and bank deposits to $80 billion. “This move is part of the securities regulator’s long-term programme of opening up China’s capital markets,” Jiang Shiqing, an analyst at Industrial Securities, told AFP, adding that lowering the qualifications would “definitely attract new overseas investors”. Foreign investment under the QFII scheme currently accounts for only around 1.1 percent of the total market value of Chinese stock markets, compared to a regional average of around 30 percent in regional markets, the regulator said. Investment quotas have risen steadily since the scheme was first launched in 2002 on a trial basis. The total currently stands at $27.3 billion.

DENPASAR - The Indonesia Hotels and Restaurants Association of Bali records that until the mid of 2012 a number of 6,000 tourism workers on the Island of Gods had owned a certificate of competence. Such amount is still far compared to the total workforce existing in tourism sector reaching 150,000 people. Secretary of the Indonesia Hotels and Restaurants Association, Perry Markus, said the certificate of competence for tourism workforce was essential to provide protection for workforce in the face of free trade between ASEAN and China in 2015. “If free trade has set to be taken effect, uncertified workforce will be excluded because foreign workers from Southeast Asian countries will be allowed to freely work in our country as long as having a certificate of competency and our society can also work in those countries,” said Perry Markus in Denpasar. He said the certification of competence was an appropriate measure for the improvement of human resources in tourism sector. Certificate holders would make it easier to compete in domestic and foreign tourism sector because they had owned certificate of com-

petence. By degrees every tourism worker would be required to have a standard of competence because the tourism currently required the handling by reliable, standardized and internationally certified tourism professionals to ensure the fulfillment of the demands of standard tourist service. “We do expect the government in the regency or municipality to participate in this program, particularly in the matter of funding. Similarly, we also urge hotels to participate by utilizing the fund from 2 percent deduction of service earned by employees,” he said. According to him, the association had teamed up with several certification institutions to boost the number of certified workforce. The Government Regulation No. 52/2012 concerning with certification of competence and certification of tourism businesses required the

tourism workforce in Bali to take competence test. Chairman of the Tourism Labor Union Federation (FSP-Par) of Bali, Putu Satyawira Marhaendra, said the Bali tourism workforce was difficult to take the competence test if they were charged with the cost of certification. Bali tourism workforce could take part in the certification process if it was free of charge. “With the income of Bali tourism labor being equal to regency or provincial minimum wage, it is impossible for them to pay for the certification. Moreover, there is no certainty from the company whether the income of labor can further increase after they get certificate of competence,” he said. He expected the company could help finance the certification so that it would not fully be charged to the labor. Beside, the government was also expected to organize the competence test at workplace of the tourism workers such as at hotel. Meanwhile, Chairman of LPS Parindo, Ketut Putra Suarthana, revealed that percentage of certified labor in Indonesia, including Bali, was relatively small, even below 5

percent of the total tourism workers in Bali. It was partially caused by the workers’ understanding that

Profits would reportedly go toward rehabilitating drug addicts. “It’s a fight on both fronts: against consumption and drug trafficking. WASHINGTON - The U.S. government is expected to formally apply a “foreign terrorist” label on Thursday to three alleged leading figures of the violent Nigerian militant group Boko Haram, officials said. The action by the State and Treasury departments follows growing pressure on the Obama Administration to take stronger action against Boko Haram. The group, which says it wants to establish an Islamic caliphate in northern Nigeria, has stepped up attacks on Christian places of worship this year. Thursday’s anticipated action, officials said, involves applying the “terrorist” designation to three men presumed to be central figures in the group. The three individuals, an official said, are Abubakar Shekau, aged around 43, described as a Boko Haram leader who allegedly aligned himself with al Qaeda in a video message; Abubakar Adam Kambar, aged roughly 35; and Khalid al Barnawi, aged approximately 36. The World Boxing Organization (WBO) ruled Wednesday that Manny Pacquiao should have won his controversial defeat to Timothy Bradley and has recommended a re-match between the fighters. American Bradley won a split decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on June 10 that prompted disbelief from the sporting world and had many

calling the outcome corrupt. The WBO met with five international judges to evaluate video of the match and they unanimously scored the fight in favor of Pacquiao, though they do not have power to overturn the initial ruling and the result will still stand. Pacquiao has indicated that he would prefer a rematch over Bradley forfeiting the belt, according to Bob Arum, the promoter for both fighters.

ENDLESS tradition on the celebration of Pagerwesi Day is a crowd at cemetery. As happened on the Pagerwesi Day, Wednesday (Jun 20), residents came to cemetery and presented food oblation (punjung). Having presented the offering, people then ate together in the cemetery area. As consequence, the cemetery turned crowded just like a city park. At the cemetery of Buleleng customary village, for instance, people whose family member had died began to flock the cemetery. They came with a variety of ritual means such as oblation, canang and incense. In the face of their family’s tomb, the residents coming in groups seemed to pray solemnly.
