Lionel Richie named 2016 MusiCares person of the year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Singer-songwriter Lionel Richie has been named the 2016 MusiCares person of the year. The Recording Academy on Tuesday named the four-time Grammy winner as the honoree of its annual MusiCares benefit gala, to be held Feb. 13 in Los Angeles, two days before the annual Grammy Awards. Performers at the gala will include Pharrell Williams, Luke Bryan and Lady Antebellum. More performers will be announced later.

As the lead singer of the Commodores, Richie wrote soulful songs such as “Three Times a Lady,” ‘’Still” and “Easy” that spanned across musical genres. As a solo artist, he became an international success with his diamond certified album “Can’t Slow Down,” which spawned the hit “All Night Long (All Night).” (ap)

Ed Sheeran leads Spotify’s top young artists NEW YORK — British singer Ed Sheeran topped Spotify’s list of the top 25 most influential artists under the age of 25 as the company’s most streamed artist of 2014. In the list released Tuesday by the music streaming service, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus and One Direction rounded out the top five young artists. The list is based on total streams, but also on No. 1 hits, volume and growth of streams over the past year and Spotify’s viral chart. NEW YORK — Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull will headline the iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina concert in Miami this November, which will be streamed live online. Other performers joining Lopez and Pitbull at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami include Don Omar, Wisin, Prince Royce, Marco Antonio Solis, Camila, Becky G., Fonseca and Voz de Mando. dition to billboard tax, other taxes such as the acquisition of fee of land and building (BPHTB) also decrease. Currently, the BPHTB tax of inheritance land is set at zero percent. Last year the BPHTB tax target was set at IDR 145 billion but could

only be achieved at IDR 141.2 billion. The BPHTB tax cannot be entirely realized due to a decrease in the number of transaction compared to in 2013. Transactions in 2013 reached 10,800 times, while in 2014 only reached 8,000 transactions. Responding to this fact, the PDI-P Faction in the Denpasar House through it spokesman A.A. DENPASAR - On Tuesday (Aug. 18), the Bali Chapter of Indonesia Environmental Forum (WALHI) sent a letter to the Regent of East Lombok and it forwarded to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Minister of Environment and Forestry, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Directorate General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Director General of the Maritime, Coastal and Small Islands, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Deputy Prevention Commission, and the Governor of NTB, protesting a permit that was issued for the mining of sea and sand. According to Suriadi Darmoko, Executive Director of WALHI Bali, permit No. 473/503 / PPT.I/2015 that was issued by the Regent of East Lombok on on January 31, 2015 upon request from PT Dinamika Atria Raya on November 19, 2014 to mine sea and sand from the waters of East Lombok, was not in fact within his authoritative jurisdiction to issue. “The location for which the permit was issued falls within a radius of 12 miles from the shore. According to Law No. 23/2014 on Regional Governments, ocean areas that are located within 12 miles from the shore fall under the authority of the provincial government, therefore the regent of East Lombok is not allowed to issue permits for the utilization of this area, given that it is beyond his authority,” explained Suriadi who added that this amounts to an unlawful act on the part of the regent of East Lombok as the authority who issued the permit, and one which could be imposed with legal sanctions. “It is illegal for an official to issue a permit for something that is beyond his authority and any permit thus issued is not legally recognized,” affirmed Suriadi. The Executive Director of Walhi also mentioned that the the permit that the regent of Lombok issued to PT Dinamika Atria Raya did not follow standard procedures in that the application for the permit itself was the only grounds on which the permit was issued, thus resulting in legal uncertainty. “The first paragraph of the permit that the regent approved states that it is a recommendation for PT Dinamika Atria Raya,” continued Suriadi. According to Suriadi, the word ‘recommendation’ implies legal uncertainty as to whether the permit is a principle permit or a recommendation for the issuance of a permit. The vagueness of the intent and purpose of the permit issuance also opens a powerful legal loophole that could potentially be abused. Suriadi suspects that the principle permit is also being used PT Tirta Wahana Bali Internasiona, as the basis for preparing the environmental impact assessment (Amdal) for the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. “Obviously this principle permit is in violation of the law. If it is used as the basis for preparing the Amdal, then arrangements of the Benoa Bay reclamation plan also violate the law,” said Suriadi. As a result of this permit having been issued, he continued, the waters of Benoa Bay region are under threat, assuming that the marine sand to be mined from the waters of East Lombok - estimated at approximately 15 million cubic meters, would be used to reclaim Benoa Bay. This could potentially damage Benoa Bay waters and causes environmental disasters in Bali. “On that account, Walhi Bali is asking the regent of East Lombok to immediately revoke the principle permit and to refrain from issuing any new permits associated with sea sand mining. We are also asking the Minister of the Environment to immediately stop the Amdal process that is currently under process with the Central Appraisal Commission of the Amdal,” said Suriadi. (kmb32)

Regent of East Lombok asks investor to meet four conditions

DENPASAR - The Bali Chapter of the Indonesia Environmental Forum (Walhi) , not only send a letter of protest, but also attached a copy of the principle permit issued by the Regent of East Lombok. The top of the permit reads: “Principle Permit Number: 473/503/PPT.I/2015” and further down it says that, in principle the government of East Lombok approves a request made by the Director of PT Dinamika Atria Raya, to make an investment in the mining sector. However, in the second paragraph, the permit states that PT Dinamika Atria Raya is required to meet four conditions. The first condition is that PT Dinamika Atria Raya is required to

disseminate information about their plan to mine sea sand in the waters of East Lombok and that they must involve local communities, including coordinating with all related parties down to

the lowest levels of government so as to avoid any undesirable things from happening. Secondly, PT Dinamika Atria Raya must comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the conducting business operations. Thirdly, there must be no overlap in designating third parties nor involve the interests of third parties. Fourthly, that this recommendation for a permit is not being bestowed to PT Dinamika Atria Raya as an operational license, but that it is however meant to be used for

the consideration of the issuance of further permits. Also that is cannot be used as collateral for other purposes and that management cannot be transferred to any other party. At the bottom of the permit, the place and date of the issuance of the principle permit is recorded as; Selong on January 31, 2015. The document was signed by the Regent of East Lombok, Moch. Balinese Temple Ceremony

Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

FDA approves first pill aimed at boosting female libido

WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first prescription drug designed to boost sexual desire in women, a milestone long sought by a pharmaceutical industry eager to replicate the blockbuster success of impotence drugs for men.

The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, approved the first prescription drug designed to boost sexual desire in women, a milestone long sought by a pharmaceutical industry eager to replicate the blockbuster success of impotence drugs for men.

But stringent safety measures on the daily pill called Addyi mean it will probably never achieve the sales of Viagra, which has generated billions of dollars since the late 1990s. The drug’s label will bear a boxed warning — the most serious type — alerting doctors and patients to the risks of dangerously low blood pressure and fainting, especially when the pill is combined with alcohol. The same problems can occur when taking the drug with other commonly prescribed medications, including antifungals used to treat yeast infections. “Patients and prescribers should fully understand the risks associated with the use of Addyi before considering treatment,” said Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA’s drug center, in a statement announcing the approval Tuesday. Under an FDA-imposed safety plan, doctors will only be able to prescribe Addyi after completing an online certification process that requires counseling patients about Addyi’s risks. Pharmacists will also need certification and will be required to remind patients not to drink alcohol while taking the drug. Opponents of the drug say it’s not worth the side effects, which also include nausea, drowsiness and dizziness. They point out that the FDA rejected the drug twice, in 2010 and 2013, due to these risks. “This is not a drug you take an hour before you have sex. You have to take it for weeks and months in order to see any benefit at all,” said Leonore Tiefer, a psychologist and sex therapist who organized a petition last month calling on the FDA to reject the drug. Patients should stop taking the

drug after eight weeks if they do not see any improvement, notes the FDA release. Sprout Pharmaceutical’s drug is intended to treat women who report emotional stress due to a lack of libido. Its approval marks a turnaround for the FDA, which previously rejected the drug twice due to lackluster effectiveness and side effects. The decision represents a compromise of sorts between two camps that have publicly feuded over the drug for years. On one side, Sprout and its supporters have argued that women desperately need FDA-approved medicines to treat sexual problems. On the other side, safety advocates and pharmaceutical critics warn that Addyi is a problem-prone drug for a questionable medical condition. Beginning with the drug’s launch in mid-October, doctors who see patients complaining about a loss of sexual appetite will have a new option. “Women are grasping, and I feel like we need to offer them something that acknowledges that, and that we can feel safe and comfortable with,” said Dr. Cheryl Iglesia, a surgeon and official with the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The search for a pill to treat women’s sexual difficulties has been something of a holy grail for the pharmaceutical industry. It was pursued and later abandoned by Pfizer, Bayer and Procter & Gamble, among others. But drugs that act on blood flow, hormones and other biological functions all proved ineffective. Addyi, known generically as flibanserin, is the first drug that acts on brain chemicals that affect mood and appetite. (ap)

LONDON - E-cigarettes should be prescribed to smokers to help them quit the habit, British public health experts recommended in a study on Wednesday. The study commissioned by health authority Public Health England (PHE) found that so-called “vaping” electronic cigarettes was 95 percent less dangerous than smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes. MANGUPURA - The ranks of the people’s representatives of Commission II of the Badung House made a site inspection to Hotels Kempinski’s development project in Sawangan, on Tuesday (Aug. 18). The inspection team found that the designated borderline of the cliff had been violated and that the height of the building was also potentially in violation of the rules and regulations governing such projects. “At first glance the height of the building indeed appears to exceed the regulated height for buildings. Because the building has sloping contours, a point zero must be determined from which the height can be measured,” explained Chairman of Commission II of the Badung House, I Nyoman Dirga Yusa, during the inspection. Dirga Yusa, said that since the building is terraced on several levels, a zero point must be determined in order to measure the height of the building. BNPB provides 10 helicopters to overcome forest fires

KUTA - The National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) has provided ten helicopters, which will be used to help extinguish forest and land fires in a number of regions in Indonesia, an official stated. “We have conducted water bombing by allocating 10 helicopters, six of them have been operational,” BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said on Tuesday.

According to him, of the six helicopters, two had been used in Riau, two in South Kalimantan, one in West Kalimantan and the rest in Central Kalimantan. Japan trade deficit widens as export growth slows

TOKYO — Japan’s trade deficit widened to its largest level in five months in July, adding to worries over the recovery amid weakening demand in China for chemicals, machinery and electronics. Though exports rose 7.6 percent from a year earlier, imports fell just 3.2 percent, less than forecast. The resulting 268.1 billion yen ($2.2 billion) deficit reported Wednesday compared with a deficit of 70.5 billion yen ($566 million) in June and was the biggest since Feburary. Japan’s economy contracted at a 1.6 percent annual pace in April-June after a 4.5 percent expansion in the first three months of the year, sapped mainly by weaker than expected consumer spending, though exports also were a drag on growth, falling at a 16.5 percent annual pace. “The trade deficit widened in July, and should continue to rise in coming months as the weaker yen pushes up import costs,” Marcel Thieliant of Capital Economics said in a research note. Lower costs for imports of oil and gas thanks to the drop in crude oil prices have reduced Japan’s trade deficit in recent months. The deficit in July was therefore 72 percent lower than in the same month a year earlier. China’s recent move to devalue the yuan, making its own products more price competitive in overseas markets, has further deepened unease over the trade outlook. Hackers claim to have exposed Ashley Madison users on Web

LONDON — Hackers claim to have leaked a massive list of users from Ashley Madison, a matchmaking website for cheating spouses, saying its owners had refused to bow to their demands to close the site. A message posted online said “Time’s Up!” and accused parent company Avid Life Media of deceit and incompetence. “Now everyone gets to see their data,” the statement said. Torontobased Avid Life Media, Inc. said in a statement Tuesday that it was aware of the claim and was investigating. “The criminal, or criminals, involved in this act have appointed themselves as the moral judge, juror, and executioner,” the company said. The Associated Press wasn’t immediately able to determine the authenticity of the leaked documents, but several security analysts who have scanned the data say they believe the dump is genuine.

One of them, TrustedSec CEO Dave Kennedy, said the dump included full names, passwords, street addresses, credit card information and “an extensive amount of internal data.” In a blog post, he said it seemed the hackers had access to Ashley Madison “for a long period of time.” Errata Security CEO Rob Graham said he had counted more than 36 million accounts, although many appeared to be bogus. The overwhelming majority of the users were male, he said in a separate blog post. The hackers’ motives aren’t entirely clear, although they have accused Ashley Madison of faking female profiles to keep male users interested. Indonesia sinks 34 foreign boats to stop illegal fishing

ATHENS, Greece — Greece’s coast guard rescued hundreds of migrants in more than a dozen search and rescue operations, including one in which a toddler was found unconscious in one of the overcrowded dinghies, authorities said Wednesday. The coast guard said picked up 534 migrants in 14 incidents off the coasts of the eastern Aegean islands of Lesbos, Chios, Agathonissi, Samos, Farmakonissi and Kos from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning. Those numbers do not include the hundreds more who managed to reach the islands in overcrowded dinghies. Separately, it said a child of about 2 or 3 years old was found unconscious in a dinghy spotted by a patrol helicopter and carrying 54 migrants off Samos. The plane operated by Indonesian carrier Trigana Air went down Sunday during a short flight in bad weather in Papua province, killing everyone on board. Rescuers finally reached the crash site, near the settlement of Oksibil that had been the plane’s destination, two days later after initial efforts were hindered by the rough terrain, thick fog and heavy rain. They found the ATR 42-300 twin-turboprop aircraft in pieces scattered across a fire-blackened clearing, and the bodies of those who had been aboard. They also recovered the plane’s black box flight data recorders. It was just the latest air accident in Indonesia, which has a poor aviation safety record and has suffered major disasters in recent months, including the crash of an AirAsia plane in December with the loss of 162 lives. Federer wins opener in Cincy, Venus Williams & Sharapova out

MASON, Ohio — Roger Federer took a first step toward a seventh Cincinnati title on Tuesday night, beating Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-4 in his opening match.
