Review: ‘Enough Said’ a winning comic romance Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES — Beholding the late James Gandolfini doing a lovely job in a change-of-pace role significantly intensifies the already funny/sad aspects of “Enough Said,” an engaging comic romance set amid the minefields that imperil starting up mid-life relationships. The title notwithstanding, writer-director Nicole Holofcener’s look at a 50-ish divorced mother with a daughter about to leave home is never at a loss for words, many of them quite amusing, making the film a leading contender for best girls’ night movie of the season. For their part, men

will enjoy watching Gandolfini in a relaxed, self-effacing, regular guy performance. Employing to her advantage a more traditional story structure than is her norm, Holofcener builds her snappy social comedy around a key piece of

information that her heroine doesn’t know, that the guy she’s beginning to date is the much-disparaged ex of her new best friend. This sort of trick has provided the trigger for rich farcical doings going back at least as far as Shakespeare, and Holofcener uses it as a springboard to look at a raft of self-absorbed, often myopic LA Westside types who have it together in some ways but not in others. Almost everyone here is divorced with an ex living nearby and one kid who’s about to fly the coop for college. Eva (Julia LouisDreyfus) is a massage therapist who lugs her porta-

ble table to her clients’ homes and is preparing emotionally for the looming moment when her smart daughter Ellen (Tracey Fairway) heads East for school. JAKARTA - The finale of a beauty pageant exclusively for Muslim women will take place in the Indonesian capital Wednesday, in a riposte to the Miss World contest in Bali that has drawn fierce opposition from Islamic radicals.

Twenty contestants will show off the latest Islamic fashion trends in the Muslimah World pageant and will also take part in other activities, such as reciting the Koran, aimed at demonstrating their piety. “We’re just trying to show the world that Islam is beautiful,” said Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola, a 21-yearold contestant from Nigeria, one of six countries represented at the

pageant. “We are free and the hijab (Muslim headscarf) is our pride.” The contestants -- who can only enter the competition if they wear a headscarf -- have undergone three days of “spiritual training” in the run-up to the final in Jakarta, waking up before dawn to pray together and sharpen their Koranic reading skills. Organisers say they want to

show Muslim women there is an alternative to the idea of beauty put forward by the British-run Miss World pageant, and also want to show that opposition to the pageant can be expressed non-violently. Organiser Eka Shanti, who founded the pageant three years ago after losing her job as TV news anchor for refusing to remove her headscarf, bills the contest as “Islam’s answer to Miss World”. “This year we deliberately held our event just before the Miss World final to show that there are alternative role models for Muslim women,” she told AFP. It is a starkly different approach

to the groups of Islamic radicals who have taken to the streets in recent weeks to protest Miss World, denouncing the contest as “pornography” and burning effigies of the organisers. Despite a pledge by organisers to drop the famous bikini round for the pageant in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, radical anger was not appeased and the protest movement snowballed. The government finally bowed to the mounting pressure and ordered the whole three-week pageant be moved to Hindu-majority Bali, where it opened on September 8. Later rounds and the final, on

September 28, had originally been scheduled to be held in and around Jakarta, where there is considerable hardline influence. While beauty is very much at the heart of Muslimah World -contestants’ height and weight is shown on the pageant’s website and it is sponsored by a halal make-up brand -- the contestants’ piety is also a big factor. More than 500 contestants competed in online rounds to get to the final in Indonesia, one of which involved the contenders comparing stories of how they came to wear the headscarf. Bali News Tourism blamed to cause water scarcity Jakarta (Bali Post)—

Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy denied the issues stating that tourism was one of the causes of water scarcity because the level of water use in the industry was considered great compared to most other sectors. “The issue of water scarcity is getting stronger when tourism is being struggled to become a means to reach people’s welfare,” said Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sapta Nirwandar, in Jakarta, Tuesday (Sep 17). He added that to date the tourism development was even accused of being one of the causes of the water scarcity. Sapta exemplified that in some regions there had been open conflicts between the community and tourism entrepreneurs. “Quite large water consumption by tourism industry makes people easy to draw a conclusion,” he said. According to him, it posed an issue needing to be addressed intelligently and fairly through good water management in order the needs of all interests were assured. He added the availability of water as a basic human need should be guaranteed. “Meanwhile, the tourism development efforts must also be positioned as something strategic because its reliability has been proved in improving people’s welfare,” he said. Data in the Tourism Management journal entitled Tourism and Water Use: Supply, Demand, and Security (2011) mentioned the need for water of city hotel/mountain hotel averagely reached 150 liters/person/day, while hotel resort averagely needed 400 liters/person/day. If

the concentration of hotels in the area was high enough then the level of water demand would be probably high, too. However, the ecotourism expert, Prof. Azril Azahari, Ph.D., said it could be reduced by recycling technology that allowed the re-use of recycled waste water. “It’s already been started by tourism businesses in Indonesia,” he said. In the meantime, the Head of Resource Development, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, I Gde Pitana, pointed out a case study on the waterbased tourism management that could have been successfully implemented by the Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC). “BTDC has become the best example assessed by the UNWTO where the water management in the lagoons is capable of preserving the surrounding environment. After the wastewater is held in the lagoon, the BTDC is now becoming the habitat of Australian birds that will migrate to Asia,” said Pitana while adding the lagoon had become a sojourn of the very phenomenal annual bird migration. The Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) noted the inflation rate of Bali-Nusra has reached 8.83 percent for the year on year (yoy) or higher than the national inflation at 8.79 percent (yoy). The inflation rate lies at the verge of 2-digit level or approaches the upper limit of 10 percent. Secretary of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) of Bali-Nusra, Dwi Pranoto, said the highest inflation occurred in West Nusa Tenggara region at 9.83 percent and was followed by East Nusa Tenggara at 8.36 percent and Bali at 8.35 percent. “This inflation rate is already on the verge of 2-digit level and the effort to restrain the increase is very crucial because if the inflation lies at high level and turns unstable, it will disrupt the economy, the investment climate and ultimately leads to the decline in the community welfare,” said Dwi Pranoto, in Denpasar, Tuesday (Sep 17). According to him, the inflation pressures throughout the year 2013 were strongly influenced by the subsidized fuel price hike coming into effect on June 22, 2013. The fuel price adjustment provided a

significant continuing impact on the price hike of basic commodities and transportation costs. “In addition, the increase in electricity tariff also contributed to regional inflationary pressure. The moment of Ramadan month, Eid al- Fitr, school holiday season and new academic year coinciding with the moment of price hike caused the inflation to be accelerated to a higher level,” he said. He estimated the risk of future inflationary pressure remained quite high because the upheaval in the exchange rate also put pressure on the inflation directly or indirectly. Directly, the inflation was accelerated through imported inflation in the form of price hike of imported goods both food and non-food. “Indirectly, the inflation will get accelerated due to rising inflation expectation of the community related to the widening deficit of balance payment of Indonesia,” he revealed. Chairman of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), Ketut Wija, said that his party would formulate a strategy to control the inflation through five-pillar approach namely the institution,

distribution, regulation, information and education in a systematic and well-integrated manner among the TPID, non-TPID stakeholders as well as central government. Currently, there were 4 TPIDs in the Bali-Nusra region. Three of them were of the provincial level namely in Bali, NTT and NTB and one TPID in Maumere county. Meanwhile, a total of 11 teams were established in the county/ municipal level such as in Denpasar, Singaraja, Mataram, Bima, Sumbawa Besar, Kupang, Labuan Bajo, Ende, Waingapu, Atambua and Ruteng. “With the local government, we are committed to supporting the package of fiscal policy in controlling the imports through the use of local products and encourage the growth of exports,” he said. He added that his party would simultaneously empower the teams in the province to carry out the work plan namely attempting the smoothness of production and supply as well as socialization related to the Regional Bylaw No.3/2013 on the local fruits and Regional Bylaw No. 3/2012 on the Micro, Medium and Small Enterprises (MSMEs). Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

iPhone fingerprint sensor worth extra cost

CUPERTINO, California — Passcodes are such a pain that I’ve relaxed the security settings on my Android phone. I’m willing to forgo the extra safety, just so I’m asked to punch in the code less often. When I got my hands on Apple’s new iPhone 5S, one of the first things I tried was a feature that allows you to bypass the passcode using a fingerprint. I had a lot of fun unlocking the phone over and over again. Who knew biometric authentication could be such a blast? The fingerprint sensor alone is worth the extra $100 you’ll pay for the 5S over an iPhone 5C. Both phones will come out Friday. In the week I’ve had with both, I’ve also been impressed with the better camera and slow-motion video in the 5S. The 5C, meanwhile, is largely last year’s iPhone 5 with a plastic casing instead of aluminum and glass. This isn’t cheap plastic, but a type offering the slippery feel of a shiny ceramic tile. It comes in five colors. Both phones come with iOS 7, the most radical change to Apple’s operating system software for mobile devices since its 2007 debut. Many of the changes are cosmetic, but there are functional improvements such as easier access to frequently used settings and apps. I will review iOS 7 separately. Many existing iPhone users won’t need more than the free update, which is available starting Wednesday. Neither the 5C nor the 5S offers improvements on the screen size, which remains at 4 inches (10 centi-

meters) diagonally. But new features and new colors may draw you to one of these new iPhones. — IPHONE 5S (available in silver, gold or gray; starts at $199 with two-year service contract, or $649 without a contract): When you set up the 5S, you’re asked to tap the home button with a finger several times so the phone can create a mathematical representation of your print. To unlock the phone, you simply tap the home button, and the phone will compare the two taps. You can tap from any angle, even sideways or upside down. This fingerprint ID also works as a way to authenticate the purchase of apps and content within apps. For security reasons, there are still times you’ll need your four-digit passcode, including after 48 hours of inactivity and before adding a new fingerprint. If the phone fails to recognize your print, you can always use the passcode. I had trouble only when my fingers were wet or greasy. One evening, I ordered pizza with an oily pepperoni topping and ate it without a napkin. The fingerprint sensor worked after one slice, but not two. Indian naan bread also threw off the sensor. In other words, having been waived it will be followed by the more representative development by investor,” he said while adding there had been a number of investors getting interested to invest in Nusa Penida. After meeting with him, the investor then made a site inspection to the bungalows that would be waived. In early trade the greenback edged up to 99.23 yen in Tokyo from 99.14 yen in New York Tuesday. The euro was at $1.3348 and 132.53 yen against $1.3356 and 132.38 yen, helped by strong German economic data. The dollar could stay in a 98.80-99.80 yen range in Asia before the outcome of the Fed’s two-day policy meeting later in the day, said Osao Iizuka, head of foreign exchange trading at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank.

“Because of uncertainty (about) the result, traders are opting to square their positions instead of taking fresh bets,” Iizuka told Dow Jones Newswires. The Fed is widely expected to scale back its $85 billion per-month bond-buying programme.The market has likely factored in a $5-$15 billion reduction in the scheme. The initial dollar-yen reaction to the Fed’s decision may hinge on how the US stock market reacts, Iizuka said. US stocks Tuesday closed higher on greater investor confidence that the US economy could withstand an expected reduction of Fed bond purchases. The Dow closed up 0.23 percent Tuesday, while Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index gained 1.84 percent by late morning Wednesday.

When asked if Shanghai could rival Hong Kong within five to 10 years, he said: “I do not want to predict. But it will be faster than most people expect.” Li, 85, also warned that the Hong Kong prodemocracy movement Occupy Central could harm the city’s economy, adding that it would “affect Hong Kong’s image as an international finance centre”. After starting out in business as a plastic flower-maker, Li now commands a vast empire through Cheung Kong Holdings and Hutchison Whampoa, with global assets in property, telecoms, utilities, ports and retail. Craftsmen in Badung difficult to get raw materials

MANGUPURA - Statue craftsmen at Jagapati, Angantaka and Sedang (JAS) village remain to face difficulties in developing their business. Difficulty to find raw material is a major obstacle. On the other hand, the policy of Badung government requiring the employers of tourist accommodation to purchase the statue products of the artisans at JAS is also considered to have considerable weaknesses affecting the production. One of the craftsmen, Ketut Sudarsana, revealed on Monday (Sep 16) that the artisans were then having trouble to look for the raw materials. Such condition had been going on for a year. Wood raw materials like rain tree, sandalwood, spice pepper and ebony brought in from the Island of Java faced sluggish supply. To work around the problem, the artisans were forced to purchase wood in Gianyar. Since it was on the second hand, it surely cost more expensive. Due to expensive price of the raw materials, the craftsmen had to reduce the quantity of their production. Similar condition was also expressed by Jro Jempiring, an owner of netting and fishing sculpture studio at Angantaka. She said the price of raw materials rose by 50 percent. It kindled an increase in the production costs. Regarding the marketing matter, both crafters admitted if they had been sufficiently helped by the policy of the Badung government requiring the entrepreneurs of tourist accommodation to purchase the statue product from the artisans at JAS. Unfortunately, benefits of the policy had not been felt to the fullest. Aside from the limited number, the payment system from the buyer or in this case the hotel was also very slow. Jro Jempiring claimed the payment paid for the crafters could only be received in a matter of months whereas the crafters needed capital to support the sustainability of their production. She also hoped relevant agencies could help resolve the problem. Meanwhile, Chairman of Commission B of the Badung House, I Made Sumerta, said that government should respond to and facilitate the aspirations of craftsmen. Otherwise, it was worried such a craft would be slowly going extinct in Badung. Regarding the complaints about the slow payment received by crafters from hotel, Sumerta stated that in general hotels had a financial or administrative system so that they could not make the payment immediately. Considering the craftsmen needed a capital, Sumerta stated there should be a solution to the problem. “We will discuss this issue to relevant agencies. Jati Temple is nestled within the area of Pengambengan village, about four kilometers south of the town of Negara, Jembrana. The temple spreading across an area of approximately 4,700 square meters is one of the dang khayangan temples (used to venerate a Hindu sage) in Jembrana. As the name implies, this temple has distinctiveness where teak trees grow inside the temple area. This temple is also closely related to the pilgrimage of Dang Hyang Nirartha on the Island of Bali. In the innermost courtyard for worship lie an oblation pavilion, gamelan pavilion, piasan pavilion and a chamber to store cloth paraphernalia. Four teak trees grow in the temple area. According to many of supporting devotee chief, Ketut Astika Jaya, the teak trees had distinctiveness. Aside from prohibited from taking the teak seedlings, the branches of trees belonging to hundreds of years old never toppled over the padmasana shrine underneath. The branch broke itself into ashes and did not topple over the padmasana shrine. Around the spring, there were four teak trees growing close to one another. Once upon a time, one of the trees bent and almost toppled over the temple com-

pound wall. Devotees originally worried if it would touch the wall, but after a few months the tree could stand upright by itself. “In addition, after several years, the distance of the padmasana shrine to the teak trees was once only a few centimeters, but now has gone farther up to two meters away. This temple was closely associated with Dang Hyang Nirartha as well as two other dang khayangan temples in Jembrana, namely the Perancak and Mertasari. He dropped in at the temple after arriving at Perancak (Dang Khayangan Perancak) and at Mertasari village (Amerthasari Temple). At that time, it was a barren area called Awen and posed a swamp and forest area. During the pilgrimage, he had unwound there and did meditation. Before meditating, he had stuck his stick in a pile and when unplugged it grew into teak trees. In one of the teak tree cavities lay an endless spring. Spanish city seeks lottery winner who lost ticket

MADRID - A Spanish city is seeking a missing millionaire. Somebody bought a lottery ticket in the northern city of La Coruna that won 4.7 million euros ($6.3 million) - but lost the ticket in the shop. After failed attempts to track the winner down, the city is now making a public plea for the buyer to step forward. Fortune hunters beware: Anybody trying to claim the prize will have to prove knowing where and when the ticket was purchased. The ticket for the June 30, 2012, drawing was found in one of the city’s authorized lottery agency outlets by another customer, who handed it to the manager of the store. The manager informed authorities, who are now publicizing the story to get leads. The city this week released an official notice about the ticket on its website list of lost-and-found items such as cellphones, keys and wallets. “I’ll be the first Spanish mayor who’s searching for a millionaire not to ask for money but to give it,” La Coruna Mayor Carlos Negreira joked in a statement. Authorities are not revealing where the ticket was bought or the time of purchase so that they can question people claiming to be the owner, and try to determine whether they’re telling the truth. Like many Spanish cities, La Coruna has dozens of lottery outlets. Many people in Spain play their own series of numbers, so people will also be questioned about their lottery playing history and what numbers they usually choose. However, it’s also possible that the ticket purchaser paid for a ticket with random numbers generated by the lottery machine. LONDON - International leaders are failing in their fight against global warming, one of the United Nations’ top climate officials said Tuesday, appealing directly to the world’s voters to pressure their politicians into taking tougher action against the buildup of greenhouse gases. Halldor Thorgeirsson told journalists gathered at London’s Imperial College that world leaders weren’t working hard enough to prevent potentially catastrophic climate change. “We are failing as an international community,” he said. “We are not on track.” Thorgeirsson, a senior director with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, was speaking with two years left to go before the world powers gather in Paris for another round of negotiations over the future of the world’s climate, which scientists warn will warm dramatically unless action is taken to cut down on the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. One of the main points of contention is how to divide the

burden of emissions cuts between industrialized nations and emerging economies such as India and China, the world’s top carbon polluter. The lack of progress in recent years has fueled doubts over whether a binding deal is possible at all. Thorgeirsson seemed to strike a pessimistic note Tuesday, talking down the idea that Paris - or any other conference - would produce a grand bargain that would ensure the reductions needed to prevent a dangerous warming of the Earth’s atmosphere. Desperate thousands try to escape cut-off Acapulco

CAPULCO, Mexico - Thousands of exhausted, hungry and increasingly despondent tourists lined up late into the night on a muddy road outside a military base for a chance to get home on one of two precious air bridges out of this famed beach resort isolated by landslides set off by Tropical Storm Manuel. With the twin roads to Mexico City closed down, at least 40,000 tourists saw a long holiday beach weekend degenerate into a desperate struggle to get weeping children, elderly parents and even a few damp, bedraggled dogs back home. Two of Mexico’s largest airlines were running about two flights an hour from Acapulco’s still-flooded international airport Tuesday, with priority for those with tickets, the elderly and families with young children. Everyone else who couldn’t wait for the government’s promise to reopen the roads within two days flocked to Air Base 7 about 20 minutes north of Acapulco, where a military air bridge made up of barely more than a dozen aircraft ferried tourists to Mexico City. The normally quiet beach-front installation was transformed into a scene from a conflict zone. Families in shorts and sandals waited for as long as eight hours outside the gates of the base, held at bay by rifle-toting soldiers until they were allowed to drag suitcases, pet carriers and red-eyed children across the tarmac, where they jostled furiously for a chance at one of the 150 seats on the next departing Air Force Boeing 727. Marc Marquez tops MotoGP test at Misano

Marc Marquez pipped Jorge Lorenzo to set the pace in MotoGP’s post-weekend test at Misano. The Spaniard, who was defeated by Lorenzo in Sunday’s grand prix, bounced back from a late crash at Turn 12 to hit the front in the final moments of the day.

A 1m33.264s put him just over two tenths clear of Lorenzo, who was a similar gap ahead of team-mate Valentino Rossi. The Yamaha pair both ran a YZR-M1 in 2014 configuration (pictured below), although it was not a full prototype machine. Honda meanwhile brought an evolved version of the 2014 bike Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa tested at Aragon in June. While Marquez went fastest, Pedrosa could only manage sixth overall, some six tenths off the pace. Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow - who focused on brake improvements - and Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista were both faster than the works Honda rider. Suzuki was also present with Randy de Puniet, and used the test to trial a different specification engine and to define its development paths. The Frenchman ended the day 13th fastest, just less than two seconds down on Marquez. Andrea Dovizioso finished eighth fastest on the revised Ducati GP13, which features a new chassis. Ducati were unable to provide Nicky Hayden with the same equipment, although the American was just 0.1s off his team-mate’s best. Andrea Iannone ended the day 10th for the satellite Pramac team, while team newcomer Yonny Hernandez - set to stand in for the injured Ben Spies in forthcoming races - was 16th.
