Installation must not be delayed Bali Post
DENPASAR - The lineup of tourism businesspeople in Bali finally spoke up about the installation of X-ray security device owned by Bali government. They asked the government to immediately implement the security system planned to be installed at the two entrance gates into Bali, namely at the Padangbai and Gilimanuk Harbor. “Even without the equipment (X-ray—Ed), Bali has been safe, but the sooner, the better. With the installation of such sophisticated security device, Bali will be safer,” said Deputy Chairman of the Indonesia Tourism Industry Association
(GIPI) Bali, Bagus Sudibya. According to him, the installation of security device was budgeted at IDR 58 billion in the main Bali regional budget 2012 to provide security for tourists visiting Bali. Moreover, international
events such as APEC Summit would be held in Bali next October where the security of Bali would be at stake in the eyes of the world community. “Although it does not guarantee 100 percent, Bali will be safe. But at least, the installation of the X-ray scanner will provide a better peace of mind for travelers visiting the island,” he said. He said the security concerns and comfort of tourists should become a major concern for the government and the entire community of Bali. The authorities would
not be able to fully maintain the security of coastal territories due to lack of human resources and personnel. “To maintain the security of Bali, it is needed the community support. At least, they are capable of securing their neighborhood, so that it can create a sense of security,” he revealed. Similar opinion was revealed by the Dean of Tourism Faculty of Udayana University, I Putu Anom. Installation of the X-ray in Bali was very important because Bali was a tourist destination in Indonesia
and the world. Moreover, many international events were planned to be held in Bali such as the World Hindu Summit, APEC Summit, Miss World and Bali Democracy Forum regularly attended by guests like the heads of the state and heads of the government. “The impact of any small incident occurred on the Island of the Gods will be quickly known internationally. On that account, I hope the X-ray security device can be immediately installed,” he said. Continued on page 6
