LOS ANGELES — With a roll of his eyes and a comment that he was good at using guns and knives, Chris Brown may have cost himself weeks of freedom and his chance to get back to making music anytime soon. The reasons for Brown’s dismissal from a Malibu rehab facility were detailed in court on Monday, with a judge ordering the Grammy winner to remain in jail until a formal probation violation hearing can be convened on April 23. The jail stint will be Brown’s longest and comes more than five years after he viciously attacked his then-girlfriend Rihanna in a rented sports car just hours before the Grammy Awards. Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin said he was most troubled by a comment the

singer made during a group therapy session last week. “I am good at using guns and knives,” the rehab facility reported Brown said in response to an exercise asking him to reflect on what he was good or excelled at. Other transgressions cited by rehab workers included the singer ignoring a worker who was waiting to give him a drug test, rubbing elbows with a woman when he had signed an agreement to stay at least two feet away from all female clients and jokingly telling fellow patients, “I’m going to ask my higher power to take away my troubles.” When asked whether he was serious, Brown said yes while shaking his head no, a report on Brown’s conduct stated. LOS ANGELES — Kanye West pleaded no contest Monday to misdemeanor battery against a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport in a special plea in which he maintains his innocence. West entered the plea through his attorney and did not attend the court hearing. He was sentenced to two years of probation, 24 anger management therapy sessions and 250 hours of community service. The rapper did not reach a civil settlement with the paparazzo, and his plea cannot be used against him in a civil lawsuit. West was charged with misdemeanor counts of battery and grand theft after an altercation at LAX with photographer Daniel Ramos in July. Ramos claimed West punched him in an unprovoked attack and wrestled his camera to the ground during the scuffle. Ramos told the court that West should be in jail. He said he was still taking medication for the injuries he suffered. “If I did what he did to me, I’d be behind bars,” he said. “I was doing my job and he broke the law.” The photographer said he is fearful of retaliation because of comments West made on the “Jimmy Kimmel” show in October. When asked about paparazzi, West said, “It’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second.” Ramos is suing West and attended Monday’s hearing accompanied by his lawyer, Gloria Allred. Prosecutors declined to file felony charges against West, but city prosecutors decided to pursue misdemeanor charges. Each count carried a penalty of up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.

We are just gonna keep at it until we’re told to stop.” Fleet spokesman Commander William Marks said the surveillance planes had already covered more than 190,000 square kilometres, but emphasised the enormity of the task ahead. “If you superimpose a map of the United States from the northern part of the Indian Ocean to the southern part of Australia, it is as if we are looking for a few people somewhere between New York and California and we don’t know

where (they are),” he said. Apart from the US aircraft, four Australian long-range P-3C Orion maritime surveillance planes and a New Zealand Orion are involved. Young said China had also requested to be involved and that was being considered. Ships have also been alerted to keep watch, although the vastness of Indian Ocean means very few pass through. A guided missile destroyer from the US Navy’s 7th fleet had been involved in the hunt earlier in the Andaman Sea, but the Pentagon said on Monday it would be withdrawn because the area to be searched was too big. Six Australians were on the commercial flight carrying 239 passengers and crew with the majority of those on board either Chinese or Malaysian.

After getting intoxicated, around 10:30 p.m. they came out of the house and looked for a place to drink again. But when going out and walking, a Ferosa vehicle moved slowly in front of them driven by Suharto leading to Negara. Without any cause, Daya suddenly blocked the vehicle and repeatedly hit the front hood of the vehicle. Suharto then stopped his vehicle. Unluckily, he was even faced with more severe condition, where Akin came and pulled the half-open driver’s door glass to rupture. Chief of Negara Police, M Didik Wiratmoko, with permission from Jembrana Police Chief confirmed the arrest of the two young men, Monday (Mar 17). Based on public report, Daya had brought a machete. But eventually the machete was secured by members who lived there. Possibly, the culprits were about to mugging the victim. As a result of their action, they were subject to the Article 406 of the Criminal Code related to vandalism with the threat of 2 years and 8 months and in conjunction with Article 170 of the Criminal Code related to vandalism together with a penalty of 1 year and 6-month imprisonment. A neglected grandma found at former Buleleng Harbor

BULELENG - A grandmother was found to get neglected in the tourist area of former pier of Buleleng Harbor, Monday (Mar 17) around 11:00 a.m. The grandma was known to name Jro Made Nomi, 90, a resident of Galingan hamlet, Baktiseraga village, Buleleng. She was found to get neglected at the location while carrying clothes, some food supplies and some money. Based on information gathered in the field on Sunday, the grandma Nomi was first discovered by the village secretary of Kampong Bugis. When she was found, she looked limp and did not answer clearly when asked about her address. She only mentioned the name of her extended family at Baktiseraga while occasionally mentioned her children. After that, she was delivered by village secretary of Kampong Bugis with the officers of Singaraja Police who happened to be stationed around the tourist area of Buleleng Harbor to the office of Buleleng Social Services on Jalan Veteran Singaraja. At the office of Social Services, the grandma Nomi was received by the Head of Buleleng Social Services,

Gede Komang, assisted by some of his staff. Then, he ordered his staff to provide food for Grandma Nomi and tidy up the items she brought along. After having lunch, Grandma Nomi could slowly speak and mention the name and her origin. She said to be from Galiran hamlet, Baktiseraga village, Buleleng. She admitted to belong to a big family of community figure at Baktiseraga, Ketut Kajar. Similarly, she claimed to have four children namely Kerta Pati, Made Sri Susilawati, Komang Mahayawati and Ketut Srigati. “I am from Galiran and know Mr. Kajar because he is my family. Some of children are working in Denpasar, while the other is here,” she said stammeringly. On hearing her confession, the Head of Social Services, Gede Komang, directly contacted the headman of Baktiseraga. Not long after, hamlet chief of Galiran I Gede Riasa was asked to see Grandma Nomi. After seeing her, Riasa admitted to know his resident. However, since the background of her family was known not to be fine, Riasa asked for time to pass on the information to her family at Bak-

tiseraga. While waiting for the family decision, Grandma Nomi agreed to be temporarily commended at the Jaramarapati nursing home at Kaliasem village, Banjar subdistrict. “I am familiar with this grandmother. Since none of her family wants to take care of her, she is often roaming to the home of her children or other residents to ask for money. I am thankful because people have found our resident and we soon coordinate first with her extended family at the village,” he said. Meanwhile, the Head of Buleleng Social Services, Gede Komang, said that for a while Grandma Nomi would be commended at Jaramarapati nursing home at Kaliasem village. This effort was done to secure her health and she could get adequate nutrition and proper shelter. After that, the Social Services would provide a deadline for the next three months to the family to acknowledge the existence of Grandma Nomi. If within three months no one wanted to acknowledge and was not willing to care for her, Social Services would leave her permanently as a resident of the Jaramarapati Nursing Home, Kaliasem village. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

NEW YORK — New York City is getting ready for an oldfashioned Easter egg hunt with a 21st-century twist: The public will hunt for the eggs as part of an interactive contest using a smartphone app. Nearly 275 egg sculptures will be hidden around the city April 1-17 as part of The Faberge Big Egg Hunt. The eggs are about 2 1/2 feet tall (or about 3/4 meter) and were created by famous artists and designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Jeff Koons. A free downloadable smartphone application will allow the public to check in each time an egg is found. The eggs’ locations will remain secret until 10 people use the app to check in at an egg. At that point its location will appear on an interactive map, becoming public. Participants will be eligible for prizes. Each egg is unique. In addition to Hilfiger and Koons, egg designers include architect Zaha Hadid, “Where’s Waldo” creator Martin Handford, artist Julian Schnabel, Lego brick artist Nathan Sawaya and fashion designers Carolina Herrera and Ralph Lauren. From April 18-25, all the eggs will be gathered for a free exhibit at Rockefeller Center. They’ll then be auctioned off by Sotheby’s and the online auctioneer Paddle8 to benefit Elephant Family, a conservation organization, and Studio in a School, a program that brings visual arts to underserved New York City kids. Twenty-four of the eggs were made by students participating in Studio in a School programs. Mini-replica eggs and a children’s book about the hunt will be sold at Saks Fifth Avenue, pop-up locations around the city and online. London hosted a Big Egg Hunt in 2012, while Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Dublin hosted them in 2013. The original Faberge eggs were ornate bejeweled egg-shaped works of art made for the families of Russian czars in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many of the Faberge eggs, about the size of a real egg, opened up to reveal elaborate tiny treasures inside. Some are now displayed by museums around the world.

DENPASAR - Bali Regional Office of Directorate General for Taxation (DGT) continues to boost tax revenue in Bali. The institution is obligated to collect tax revenue in 2014 amounting to around IDR 7,400 trillion, rising about 30 percent compared to the previous year amounting to IDR 5,706 trillion. “So far, the tax revenues have been approximately 11.5 percent of the target. Similarly, we must also continue to boost the tax revenue so as to achieve the target,” said the Head of the Bali Regional Office of Directorate General of Taxation (DGT), Arif Yanuar. He said, the larger the target achieved, the larger the Tax Sharing Funds would be received by Bali Province through Regional Budget. Nationally, the tax revenue in 2014 was expected to reach IDR 1,266 trillion, or 74 percent of the total state revenue as stated in the Law No. 23/2013 on the State Budget for fiscal year 2014. “To that end, it is required an effort to increase public awareness of Bali in meeting their tax obligation. Hopefully, the public awareness can increase by immediately reporting the annual income tax this year,” he said. He mentioned that to improve services to the community and support the improvement of tax administration, the community was expected to deliver their annual tax report earlier than the time limit specified. The annual tax reporting method was also constantly updated, where the annual report could be directly submitted to the Tax Office where the taxpayer was registered and to the nearest tax office or through the Drop Box provided according to the schedule listed on the website of the DGT. “Currently, we have issued about 15,000 EFINs (Electronic Filing Identification Number),” he said. Particular individual taxpayer can now deliver its annual tax report online by using the e-filing facility. TOKYO — Japan on Tuesday imposed some modest sanctions on Russia for its recognition of Crimea as an independent state — suspending talks on relaxing visa requirements between the two countries and talks on investment, space exploration and military cooperation. largest casino serving exclusively foreigners and boost the tourism industry and tax revenues, according to the ministry that oversees culture, sports and tourism. The ministry will review in January 2018 whether the LippoCaesars consortium’s investment is carried out as planned before giving a final casino license. The launch of the resort is expected three months later. The Lippo-Caesars development will be located on Yeongjong island, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Incheon International Airport on the same island and about 40 kilometers from downtown Seoul. The resort area will also include a five star hotel, serviced residences, a theater, a convention center and other commercial facilities, according to the consortium’s proposal submitted to the government.

WASHINGTON — The Janet Yellen era at the Federal Reserve begins in earnest this week with a two-day meeting, a policy statement and fresh economic forecasts. Yet all that will be a prelude to the marquee event: Yellen’s first news conference as Fed chair. The financial world will be parsing every word for any hint of a policy shift. Will Yellen, having succeeded Ben Bernanke, embrace Bernanke’s approach of keeping rates low while gradually paring the Fed’s economic stimulus? Or, as some speculate, might she prove even more inclined than Bernanke to favor low rates to try to accelerate job growth, even at the risk of high inflation? No major announcements are expected when the meeting ends Wednesday. But many analysts think the Fed could make one change in its statement: They think it may drop any reference to an unemployment rate that might cause the Fed eventually to raise short-term rates. Eliminating that reference would help the Fed maximize its flexibility on rates. The Fed’s most recent policy statement said it planned to keep short-term rates at record lows “well past” the time the unemployment rate falls below 6.5 percent. The rate is now 6.7 percent. But several Fed officials have recently suggested scrapping the 6.5 percent threshold

and instead describing more general changes in the job market and inflation that might trigger a rate increase. Yellen, who was sworn as chair on Feb. 3, has spoken of seeking continuity with Bernanke, under whom she served as vice chair. That’s partly why the Fed will likely announce this week a third reduction in its monthly bond purchases. Those purchases have been intended to keep long-term loan rates low to encourage spending and growth. In December and in January, the Fed cut its monthly pace of bond buying from an original $85 billion in $10 billion increments to $65 billion. If the economy keeps improving, the Fed will likely keep paring its bond purchases until ending them altogether in December. The pullback is expected to occur despite challenges the U.S. economy and financial markets face, from a brutal winter that’s depressed growth, to fears about how Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine might slow the global economy. Still, Fed officials, including Yellen, have signaled their belief that the weakness in U.S. economic data is temporary rather than a sign the economy is losing momentum. The Fed and most private economists foresee faster economic growth in 2014. Many think the economy, which grew a lackluster 1.9 percent in 2013, will rebound to around 3 percent this year.

The police photographer’s testimony followed that of a firearm instructor who said that Pistorius was trying to buy seven more guns in addition to the 9 mm pistol the runner had licensed for self-defense and which he used to kill Steenkamp. One of the other guns Pistorius wanted was the civilian version of a semi-automatic assault rifle used by the South African police, Sean Rens testified. Pistorius claims he shot Steenkamp through the toilet door in his upstairs bathroom because he feared she was a dangerous intruder during the night and his life was under threat. Firearm trainer Rens told how Pistorius correctly answered questions relating to when he was allowed to shoot his gun in self-defense, with the prosecution using that testimony to attempt to show how Pistorius flouted gun regulations he should have known when he killed Steenkamp.

JIDD to strengthen Indonesia’s position Antara

JAKARTA - The Jakarta International Defense Dialog (JIDD) will strengthen the position of Indonesia in the defense sector, according to a legislator. “JIDD, which will start tomorrow, is very important because of its two functions. The first function is to encourage the national defense industry and to market its products internationally,” Mahfudz Sidiqq, the chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR)’s Commission I, stated on Tuesday. He explained that Indonesia should use the forum to find opportunities to establish strategic cooperation with a number of countries. The legislator also asked the government to present its strategic plan on the national defense industry development. INDIAN WELLS, California — Roger Federer could have been upset about losing a close final in one of the biggest events outside the Grand Slam tournaments. But the blow of a three-set loss to Novak Djokovic in the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday was softened by knowing how far he had come since injuring his back a year ago at Indian Wells. Last spring, Federer took a sevenweek break. After Wimbledon, he re-injured his back and found himself questioning everything, leading to an uneven year for someone who once ruled this sport. “I had some doubts at certain times,” he said. “But, overall, I knew that it can’t be that I will feel this way forever, so it was just important to stay patient and wait. That’s the most difficult thing to do. I haven’t had it very often in my career. That’s why it was somewhat new for me.” The chatter grew that Federer’s game had fallen. Some suggested he consider retirement. He heard the noise but didn’t listen. “A few weeks ago, months ago, a few people said I couldn’t play tennis anymore,” he said. “But at the same time, that fire, wanting to win, is important, and right now I have that. I think have a really good balance right now.”

Despite being denied a record fifth title at Indian Wells, Federer is 19-3 this year, his best start since opening the season with a 23-2 mark two years ago. He’s 4-2 against top 10 opponents, the most wins of any player this year. He moved up three spots to No. 5 in Monday’s rankings. That’s the closest he’s been to the top four since last June, when he was third. Federer won his first title of the year two weeks ago in Dubai, beating Djokovic in a three-set semifinal. He was a finalist in Brisbane and lost in the semifinals at the Australian Open. “I’m just happy I’m playing consistent tennis and I’m going deep in tournaments and I’m giving myself chances to win,” he said. “I’m playing really good tennis. I’m moving well. Serving well, consistently well. So many things are working.” Federer heads to Miami this week for the Sony Open, which he skipped last year because of his back. “I’m just surprised that I’m able to keep it up week for week now,” he said. “I expected myself to have a breakthrough tournament, but then maybe a couple of early exits. A request by the Egyptian owner of Premier League team Hull City to change its name to Hull Tigers is set to be turned down by the English Football Association. The FA said Monday that its membership committee has recommended that the request be rejected following “consultation with stakeholders within and outside of the game.” The recommendation has been passed to the FA council, which will vote on it at a meeting on April 9. Hull owner Assem Allam believes a name change will attract investors and boost the club’s marketing appeal abroad. In January, he threatened to quit if the FA

turned down his request, saying: “No one on earth is allowed to question my business decisions. A request by the Egyptian owner of Premier League team Hull City to change its name to Hull Tigers is set to be turned down by the English Football Association. INDIAN WELLS, California — Roger Federer could have been upset about losing a close final in one of the biggest events outside the Grand Slam tournaments. But the blow of a three-set loss to Novak Djokovic in the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday was softened by knowing how far he had come since injuring his back a year ago at Indian Wells. Last spring, Federer took a sevenweek break. After Wimbledon, he re-injured his back and found himself questioning everything, leading to an uneven year for someone who once ruled this sport. “I had some doubts at certain times,” he said. “But, overall, I knew that it can’t be that I will feel this way forever, so it was just important to stay patient and wait. That’s the most difficult thing to do. I haven’t had it very often in my career. That’s why it was somewhat new for me.” The chatter grew that Federer’s game had fallen. Some suggested he consider retirement. He heard the noise but didn’t listen. “A few weeks ago, months ago, a few people said I couldn’t play tennis anymore,” he said. “But at the same time, that fire, wanting to win, is important, and right now I have that. I think have a really good balance right now.”

Despite being denied a record fifth title at Indian Wells, Federer is 19-3 this year, his best start since opening the season with a 23-2 mark two years ago. He’s 4-2 against top 10 opponents, the most wins of any player this year. He moved up three spots to No. 5 in Monday’s rankings. That’s the closest he’s been to the top four since last June, when he was third. Federer won his first title of the year two weeks ago in Dubai, beating Djokovic in a three-set semifinal. He was a finalist in Brisbane and lost in the semifinals at the Australian Open. “I’m just happy I’m playing consistent tennis and I’m going deep in tournaments and I’m giving myself chances to win,” he said. “I’m playing really good tennis. I’m moving well. Serving well, consistently well. So many things are working.” Federer heads to Miami this week for the Sony Open, which he skipped last year because of his back. “I’m just surprised that I’m able to keep it up week for week now,” he said. “I expected myself to have a breakthrough tournament, but then maybe a couple of early exits. Who knows, maybe that’s all upon me, I don’t know. But I got very, very close, so it’s encouraging for Miami and for the rest of the season.” Federer’s rivals have noticed a recharged Roger.

PRETORIA, South Africa — A police photographer who took pictures of the bloody scene of Reeva Steenkamp’s shooting death continued his testimony at Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial on Tuesday. Warrant Officer Bennie van Staden took hundreds of photos of the scene, including of the blood marks, bullet casings and the gun found inside Pistorius’ bathroom in the hours after the double-amputee athlete killed his girlfriend before dawn on Feb. 14 last year. The policeman says he also took nine photographs of Pistorius soon after the shooting, with the athlete seen in some of the images standing in blood-stained prosthetic legs and wearing blood-soaked shorts in the garage of his home. Pistorius, 27, is charged with premeditated murder for killing Steenkamp, 29. He pleaded not guilty to murder and says he shot his girlfriend accidentally thinking she was an intruder in a toilet cubicle in the bathroom. Van Staden was being cross-examined for the second day by chief defense lawyer Barry Roux on details of when and where he took some photos and what he moved at Pistorius’ home. Van Staden’s testimony continued after the start of Tuesday’s proceedings was delayed by over an hour to give the policeman time to collect records and discs relating to the photos. Van Staden was asked by the defense Monday to produce discs containing master copies of photographs. The defense also requested results of gunshot residue tests conducted on Pistorius by van Staden. The police photographer’s testimony followed that of a firearm instructor who said that Pistorius was trying to buy seven more guns in addition to the 9 mm pistol the runner had licensed for self-defense and which he used to kill Steenkamp. One of the other guns Pistorius wanted was the civilian version of a semi-automatic assault rifle used by the South African police, Sean Rens testified. Pistorius claims he shot Steenkamp through the toilet door in his upstairs bathroom because he feared she was a dangerous intruder during the night and his life was under threat. Firearm trainer Rens told how Pistorius correctly answered questions relating to when he was allowed to shoot his gun in self-defense, with the prosecution using that testimony to attempt to show how Pistorius flouted gun regulations he should have known when he killed Steenkamp.

KABUL, Afghanistan — A suicide bomber riding a rickshaw blew himself up outside a checkpoint near a market in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing at least 15 civilians, officials said, in the latest attack in the countdown to next month’s presidential elections. Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the attack in the capital of Faryab province, but it happened in an area where the Taliban and allied militant groups are active. The Taliban have threatened a campaign of violence to disrupt the April 5 vote, which will choose a new president to lead the country as foreign troops prepare to end their combat mission by the end of the year. The attacker was approaching a checkpoint where cars were being searched on a road leading to the governor’s compound in Maymana, the Faryab provincial capital, when he detonated his explosives hidden in the rickshaw, the officials said. JAKARTA - The Jakarta International Defense Dialog (JIDD) will strengthen the position of Indonesia in the defense sector, according to a legislator. “JIDD, which will start tomorrow, is very important because of its two functions. The first function is to encourage the national defense industry and to market its products internationally,” Mahfudz Sidiqq, the chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR)’s Commission I, stated on Tuesday. He explained that Indonesia should use the forum to find opportunities to establish strategic cooperation with a number of countries. The legislator also asked the government to present its strategic plan on the national defense industry development. The second function of JIDD is to promote Indonesia’s defense diplomacy internationally. “In the New Era Order, Indonesia was well respected for its defense strength in Southeast Asia,” he commented. Chairman of the JIDD Steering Committee Retired Vice Marshal Eris Herryanto had earlier stated that during the Fourth JIDD, 50 delegations from various countries will discuss cooperation in maritime security. The Indonesian-U.S. consortium plans to spend 743.7 billion won ($696 million) to open a casino town in Incheon in 2018, South Korea’s culture ministry said in a statement Tuesday. It is the first South Korean casino license given to foreign investors, though a final approval is pending. It will become South Korea’s

largest casino serving exclusively foreigners and boost the tourism industry and tax revenues, according to the ministry that oversees culture, sports and tourism. The only place in South Korea where gambling is legal for residents is the Kangwon Land casino in Gangwon province east of Seoul, which was opened to help revive a former coal-mining town.

The ministry will review in January 2018 whether the LippoCaesars consortium’s investment is carried out as planned before giving a final casino license. The launch of the resort is expected three months later. The Lippo-Caesars development will be located on Yeongjong island, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Incheon International Airport on the same island and about 40 kilometers from downtown Seoul. The resort area will also include a five star hotel, serviced residences, a theater, a convention center and other commercial facilities, according to the consortium’s proposal submitted to the government.

WASHINGTON — The Janet Yellen era at the Federal Reserve begins in earnest this week with a two-day meeting, a policy statement and fresh economic forecasts. Yet all that will be a prelude to the marquee event: Yellen’s first news conference as Fed chair. The financial world will be parsing every word for any hint of a policy shift. Will Yellen, having succeeded Ben Bernanke, embrace Bernanke’s approach of keeping rates low while gradually paring the Fed’s economic stimulus? Or, as some speculate, might she prove even more inclined than Bernanke to favor low rates to try to accelerate job growth, even at the risk of high inflation? No major announcements are expected when the meeting ends Wednesday. But many analysts think the Fed could make one change in its statement: They think it may drop any reference to an unemployment rate that might cause the Fed eventually to raise short-term rates. Eliminating that reference would help the Fed maximize its flexibility on rates. The Fed’s most recent policy statement said it planned to keep short-term rates at record lows “well past” the time the unemployment rate falls below 6.5 percent. The rate is now 6.7 percent. But several Fed officials have recently suggested scrapping the 6.5 percent threshold

and instead describing more general changes in the job market and inflation that might trigger a rate increase. Yellen, who was sworn as chair on Feb. 3, has spoken of seeking continuity with Bernanke, under whom she served as vice chair. That’s partly why the Fed will likely announce this week a third reduction in its monthly bond purchases. Those purchases have been intended to keep long-term loan rates low to encourage spending and growth. In December and in January, the Fed cut its monthly pace of bond buying from an original $85 billion in $10 billion increments to $65 billion. If the economy keeps improving, the Fed will likely keep paring its bond purchases until ending them altogether in December. The pullback is expected to occur despite challenges the U.S. economy and financial markets face, from a brutal winter that’s depressed growth, to fears about how Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine might slow the global economy. Still, Fed officials, including Yellen, have signaled their belief that the weakness in U.S. economic data is temporary rather than a sign the economy is losing momentum. The Fed and most private economists foresee faster economic growth in 2014. Many think the economy, which grew a lackluster 1.9 percent in 2013, will rebound to around 3 percent this year.

TOKYO — Japan on Tuesday imposed some modest sanctions on Russia for its recognition of Crimea as an independent state — suspending talks on relaxing visa requirements between the two countries and talks on investment, space exploration and military cooperation. NEW YORK — New York City is getting ready for an oldfashioned Easter egg hunt with a 21st-century twist: The public will hunt for the eggs as part of an interactive contest using a smartphone app. Nearly 275 egg sculptures will be hidden around the city April 1-17 as part of The Faberge Big Egg Hunt. The eggs are about 2 1/2 feet tall (or about 3/4 meter) and were created by famous artists and designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Jeff Koons. A free downloadable smartphone application will allow the public to check in each time an egg is found. The eggs’ locations will remain secret until 10 people use the app to check in at an egg. At that point its location will appear on an interactive map, becoming public. Participants will be eligible for prizes. Each egg is unique. In addition to Hilfiger and Koons, egg designers include architect Zaha Hadid, “Where’s Waldo” creator Martin Handford, artist Julian Schnabel, Lego brick artist Nathan Sawaya and fashion designers Carolina Herrera and Ralph Lauren. From April 18-25, all the eggs will be gathered for a free exhibit at Rockefeller Center. They’ll then be auctioned off by Sotheby’s and the online auctioneer Paddle8 to benefit Elephant Family, a conservation organization, and Studio in a School, a program that brings visual arts to underserved New York City kids. Twenty-four of the eggs were made by students participating in Studio in a School programs. The institution is obligated to collect tax revenue in 2014 amounting to around IDR 7,400 trillion, rising about 30 percent compared to the previous year amounting to IDR 5,706 trillion. “So far, the tax revenues have been approximately 11.5 percent of the target. Similarly, we must also continue to boost the tax revenue so as to achieve the target,” said the Head of the Bali Regional Office of Directorate General of Taxation (DGT), Arif Yanuar. He said, the larger the target achieved, the larger the Tax Sharing Funds would be received by Bali Province through Regional Budget. Nationally, the tax revenue in 2014 was expected to reach IDR 1,266 trillion, or 74 percent of the total state revenue as stated in the Law No. 23/2013 on the State Budget for fiscal year 2014. “To that end, it is required an effort to increase public awareness of Bali in meeting their tax obligation. Hopefully, the public awareness can increase by immediately reporting the annual income tax this year,” he said. He mentioned that to improve services to the community and support the improvement of tax administration, the community was expected to deliver their annual tax report earlier than the time limit specified. The annual tax reporting method was also constantly updated, where the annual report could be directly submitted to the Tax Office where the taxpayer was registered and to the nearest tax office or through the Drop Box provided according to the schedule listed on the website of the DGT. “Currently, we have issued about 15,000 EFINs (Electronic Filing Identification Number),” he said. Particular individual taxpayer can now deliver its annual tax report online by using the e-filing facility. Through this system, the reporting of annual tax report can be done via the internet without passing through other party and without charges made by the DGT in order to provide facility for taxpayers. “I invite all the taxpayers in the Bali Province to immediately fulfill the obligation by submitting the annual tax report both of the Personal Income Tax and the Entity,” he said. A neglected grandma found at former Buleleng Harbor

BULELENG - A grandmother was found to get neglected in the tourist area of former pier of Buleleng Harbor, Monday (Mar 17) around 11:00 a.m. The grandma was known to name Jro Made Nomi, 90, a resident of Galingan hamlet, Baktiseraga village, Buleleng. She was found to get neglected at the location while carrying clothes, some food supplies and some money. Based on information gathered in the field on Sunday, the grandma Nomi was first discovered by the village secretary of Kampong Bugis. When she was found, she looked limp and did not answer clearly when asked about her address. She only mentioned the name of her extended family at Baktiseraga while occasionally mentioned her children. After that, she was delivered by village secretary of Kampong Bugis with the officers of Singaraja Police who happened to be stationed around the tourist area of Buleleng Harbor to the office of Buleleng Social Services on Jalan Veteran Singaraja. At the office of Social Services, the grandma Nomi was received by the Head of Buleleng Social Services,

Gede Komang, assisted by some of his staff. Then, he ordered his staff to provide food for Grandma Nomi and tidy up the items she brought along. After having lunch, Grandma Nomi could slowly speak and mention the name and her origin. She said to be from Galiran hamlet, Baktiseraga village, Buleleng. She admitted to belong to a big family of community figure at Baktiseraga, Ketut Kajar. Similarly, she claimed to have four children namely Kerta Pati, Made Sri Susilawati, Komang Mahayawati and Ketut Srigati. “I am from Galiran and know Mr. Kajar because he is my family. Some of children are working in Denpasar, while the other is here,” she said stammeringly. On hearing her confession, the Head of Social Services, Gede Komang, directly contacted the headman of Baktiseraga. Not long after, hamlet chief of Galiran I Gede Riasa was asked to see Grandma Nomi. After seeing her, Riasa admitted to know his resident. However, since the background of her family was known not to be fine, Riasa asked for time to pass on the information to her family at Bak-

tiseraga. While waiting for the family decision, Grandma Nomi agreed to be temporarily commended at the Jaramarapati nursing home at Kaliasem village, Banjar subdistrict. “I am familiar with this grandmother. Since none of her family wants to take care of her, she is often roaming to the home of her children or other residents to ask for money. I am thankful because people have found our resident and we soon coordinate first with her extended family at the village,” he said. Meanwhile, the Head of Buleleng Social Services, Gede Komang, said that for a while Grandma Nomi would be commended at Jaramarapati nursing home at Kaliasem village. This effort was done to secure her health and she could get adequate nutrition and proper shelter. After that, the Social Services would provide a deadline for the next three months to the family to acknowledge the existence of Grandma Nomi. If within three months no one wanted to acknowledge and was not willing to care for her, Social Services would leave her permanently as a resident of the Jaramarapati Nursing Home, Kaliasem village. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

LOS ANGELES — Kanye West pleaded no contest Monday to misdemeanor battery against a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport in a special plea in which he maintains his innocence. West entered the plea through his attorney and did not attend the court hearing. He was sentenced to two years of probation, 24 anger management therapy sessions and 250 hours of community service. The rapper did not reach a civil settlement with the paparazzo, and his plea cannot be used against him in a civil lawsuit. West was charged with misdemeanor counts of battery and grand theft after an altercation at LAX with photographer Daniel Ramos in July. Ramos claimed West punched him in an unprovoked attack and wrestled his camera to the ground during the scuffle. Ramos told the court that West should be in jail. He said he was still taking medication for the injuries he suffered. “If I did what he did to me, I’d be behind bars,” he said. “I was doing my job and he broke the law.” The photographer said he is fearful of retaliation because of comments West made on the “Jimmy Kimmel” show in October. When asked about paparazzi, West said, “It’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second.” Ramos is suing West and attended Monday’s hearing accompanied by his lawyer, Gloria Allred. Prosecutors declined to file felony charges against West, but city prosecutors decided to pursue misdemeanor charges. Each count carried a penalty of up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.

We are just gonna keep at it until we’re told to stop.” Fleet spokesman Commander William Marks said the surveillance planes had already covered more than 190,000 square kilometres, but emphasised the enormity of the task ahead. “If you superimpose a map of the United States from the northern part of the Indian Ocean to the southern part of Australia, it is as if we are looking for a few people somewhere between New York and California and we don’t know

where (they are),” he said. Apart from the US aircraft, four Australian long-range P-3C Orion maritime surveillance planes and a New Zealand Orion are involved. Young said China had also requested to be involved and that was being considered. Ships have also been alerted to keep watch, although the vastness of Indian Ocean means very few pass through. A guided missile destroyer from the US Navy’s 7th fleet had been involved in the hunt earlier in the Andaman Sea, but the Pentagon said on Monday it would be withdrawn because the area to be searched was too big. Six Australians were on the commercial flight carrying 239 passengers and crew with the majority of those on board either Chinese or Malaysian.
