LOS ANGELES - For most fans of “The Simpsons,” the name Nancy Cartwright may ring a bell as the voice of 10-year-old troublemaker Bart Simpson over 28 seasons of the Fox animated show. Now, the actress is hoping to establish her own voice by documenting a surreal adventure, “In Search of Fellini.” Cartwright, 59, co-wrote the new film, out in U.S. theaters this weekend, a mostly autobiographical tale of how her obsession with filmmaker Federico Fellini led to her own impromptu solo Italian adventure to find the elusive director. “All the writers on ‘The Simpsons,’ they’ve created this legacy ... and to be a part of that has been such a privilege,” Cartwright told Reuters. “For me personally, I would like to be able to, as an artist, establish my own voice.” “In Search of Fellini” follows Lucy, a young, naive girl living a sheltered life with her mother in a small Midwestern American town until she undergoes a spiritual awakening watching Fellini’s 1954’s “La Strada” and goes to Italy.

The film traces Lucy’s journey through idyllic highs, such as falling in love, and crippling lows, such as an encounter with an older, male stranger that quickly goes wrong quickly - a scenario that Cartwright said she lifted directly from her own experiences. “As a writer, I thought it absolutely had to be in there. I couldn’t hold onto something that had happened to me because I’m embarrassed to share that I was so naive or stupid,” she said. Bringing the story to screen was a nearly 30-year effort, Cartwright said. “I certainly didn’t have the power back then that I have now, I didn’t speak Italian, I didn’t have connections that I have now worldwide, so it took a little bit of time for the physical world to catch up with Nancy’s dream,” she said. Cartwright said she hopes to write and produce more projects after her experience on “In Search of Fellini.” Meanwhile, she will return in the 29th season of “The Simpsons” in October, continuing her tenure as Bart and characters such as Ralph Wiggum and Nelson Muntz. KUALA LUMPUR - The movie company that made “The Wolf of Wall Street”, and was co-founded by the Malaysian prime minister’s step son, has settled a civil lawsuit brought by the U.S. government to seize assets allegedly bought with money stolen from a Malaysian state fund.

Red Granite Pictures announced the settlement in a filing at the federal Los Angeles court on Friday, without revealing any sum. U.S prosecutors, pursuing a kleptocracy asset recovery initiative, had claimed the 2013 film, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was financed by Red Granite using funds stolen from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). “The parties are pleased to inform the court that Red Granite and the government have reached a settlement in principle,” the filing stated. Red Granite has said previously that neither it, or its co-founder Riza Aziz, had done anything wrong. “We are glad to finally put this matter behind us and look forward to refocusing all of our attention back on our film business,” Red Granite said in a statement. The U.S. Justice Department has lodged dozens of lawsuits in the past two years related to the alleged misappropriation of $4.5 billion from the investment fund, 1MDB. The United States is seeking to seize some $1.7 billion in assets, making it the largest action brought by the department under its kleptocracy asset recovery initiative. 54 years after Mt. Agung erupted in 1963

Lava flow now made into quarrying area, housing and school

AMLAPURA - The last eruption of Mount Agung in 1963 still remains in the mind of Balinese people, especially Karangasem. The eruption starting on February 18, 1963 ending on January 27, 1964 was magmatic and claimed a total of 1,148 fatalities while 296 others injured. Now, after 54 years, the former lava flow has become the center for quarrying activities. There are also taken advantage for housing and school building. History of the Mount Agung’s eruption has been recorded since 1808. At that time, Mount Agung discharged rocks and volcanic ash in large numbers. Another eruption occurred in 1821, a normal eruption. Terrible eruption then re-occurred in 1843, where the eruption was preceded with an earthquake. The materials discharged were in the form of ash, sand and pumice stone. Then, in 1908, 1915 and 1917 in various places in the bottom of the crater and the embankment was found fumaroles. Then, the last eruption occurred in 1963.

Seeing the records of contingency plan documents to face the eruption of Mount Agung, the history indicates if the interphase period of Mount Agung is different, from the shortest period of 16 years to the longest period of 120 years. For almost a year in the last eruption at the time, Bali chiefly Karangasem was totally paralyzed. All the activities of government and people’s economy stagnated. Everything was focused on the handling of victims amid the never-ending earthquakes while the roars from the crater of Mount Agung continued and accompanied by ash rain.

Since the earthquake activities began to be felt on February 16, 1963, the people of Karangasem continued to be haunted by earthquakes, clouds of smoke and smell of sulfuric gas. On the following days, people were increasingly made panicky by the sound of eruption, the movement of fire at the mouth of the crater amid persistent lightning. On February 24, heavy muddy rains were observed at Besakih causing several buildings of the Eka Dasa Rudra (centenary ritual) collapsed. At that time, Temukus residents fled to Besakih. Hot clouds of the eruption

came down through Tukad Daya to Belong. March 17, 1963 became the peak of Mount Agung activities. Climax of the eruption cloud happened at 05:32. Sound of the eruption was heard averagely every five seconds. The ash rains were getting heavier until the sight was completely obstructed. Since then, the area of Subagan and Amlapura town was overwhelmed by rain lava to claim thousands of fatalities. It happened until March 21, 1963. After peak of the eruption, all the activities of Mount Agung diminished. The roars were slowly gone. Lava melt moved northwardly and stopped a distance of 7,290 meters from the peak of Mount Agung. This situation then continued to decline until the activity of Mount Agung really stalled on January 27, 1964.

One of the community leaders of Selat subdistrict, I Wayan Sekep, said on Saturday (Sep. 16), the most severe impact occurred on the foot of Mount Agung like at Sebudi village namely the Badeg Dukuh, Badeg Tengah, Badeg Kelodan, Sebudi, Ancut, Telung Buana, Lebih, some of Yeh He and Pura hamlet. Cervical cancer vaccine unable to be provincial program DENPASAR - Bali provincial government should take the moment of school student immunization month (BIAS) in August to provide cervical cancer vaccination in young women of Bali following the vaccination pilot project in Greater Jakarta conducted by ministry of health.

“This is an opportunity for Bali provincial government because Jogjakarta already done it,” said Dr. I Nyoman Budiana, on Thursday (Sep. 9). He confirmed that the vaccine can be obtained from the ministry of health so that the budget used comes from the state budget. The vaccination is given to fifth and sixth grade students for twice injections. Theoretically, the twice vaccine administrations in children under 14 years have the same effectiveness as three times administration in adulthood. “So, twice administrations in children under 14 years can save costs,” he said. Head of the Bali Health Agency, Ketut Suarjaya, said that his agency follows the national program. All this time, some districts have been pro active in prevention efforts. Denpasar, for instance, has provided vaccination for junior high school students since 2014. Badung already provided it for free last year, while Gianyar started to implement the vaccination program. “It is not a national vaccination program. On that account, as a new form of innovation, a public answer as well as a measure of transparency towards the contribution of the entrepreneurs, the Kuta customary village introduced the Kuta Sayaga system, on Friday (Sep. 15). According to Chief of Kuta customary village, Wayan Swarsa, this system is an online servicebased system. He said that internally all the village staff in charge of financial management of Kuta customary village will work with online applications. In addition, this application is also for the needs of entrepreneurs as a public accountability so the entrepreneurs can see whether their contribution has been received properly. Thus, all the entrepreneurs mentioned in the database can open and see their payment history so far any time. In addition, the entrepreneurs can also print a receipt of payment from the system itself. “This is a form of transparency and public accountability because the participation in the form of contribution or service fund becomes the main basis for us to build trinity temple at local village properly,” he said. costumed characters taking over the boardwalk. Some costumes were more realistic, while others chose whimsical disguises. Hundreds of mermaids made an appearance; some danced and others traded their flippers for roller skates. “The costumes, you could see they put so much effort in it. It’s fantastic,” said one parade goer. ‘Poseidon’ himself made an appearance at the parade. “I decided to make it pop and go very royal, very regal. With the purple and then why not show some love, some pride, some every color in the rainbow,” said Vincent Bonanno, the Poseidon’s Parade Prom King. Parade founder, Casey Brouder said she was inspired to start the celebration after participating in Coney Island’s mermaid parade. She added that this year’s parade was extra special because, for the first time since Hurricane Sandy hit, the entire boardwalk is complete. “It took a long time to get the boardwalk back. And now we can celebrate it, and create a new tradition that we can do for years to come,” said Brouder. Brouder said the parade is not meant to compete with the Coney Island parade but compliment it. Joint Team Raid Four Cafe in Buleleng

Officers began to launch a raid around 23:00 pm. The raided cafe is Kafe Sahara which has 20 female song guides (waitress-ed). Two waitresses in this cafe underwent a urine test. The results are negative for drugs. Mr. Cafe BIG employs 17 waitresses and after the officers do the checks are not found dangerous goods and drugs. While at Kafe Kyu found 24 waitress, and Palapa Cafe there are 20 waitress. The results of urine test to waitress is expressed negative. In fact, one male cafe owner who also underwent a urine test, the result was also negative. Since hospitalized on September 13, until now she is being treated in Nusa Indah Room, Sanglah Hospital. The toddler Davina came with shortness of breath, fever for two days, and cough. But, results of the laboratory examination of the Sanglah Hospital indicated if she is negative to bird flu. This was expressed by father of Davina, Putu Laba Yasa, 25, from Minggir hamlet, Batununggul village, Nusa Penida. When met in the waiting area of Nusa Indah Room, Sanglah Hospital, on Saturday (Sep. 16), he indeed raises chicken. But his chicken suddenly died by degrees. Such chicken death has happened since a month ago. The chickens were then directly buried. Similarly, many chickens of his neighbors also died. However, the results of laboratory tests using PCR method performed by the Denpasar Veterinary Office indicated to be positive to AI (H5). He added that virus isolation is being tested. Apart from educating the public, his agency also conducted blood serum sampling as well as tracheal and cloacal swab. Clear regulations are needed regarding Lake Batur

BANGLI — Water pollution in Lake Batur has been alarming for some years. The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on the farmlands around the lake and floating fish cages (KJA) are key contributing factors to this pollution. How the lake is handled and how activities around the lake are arranged clearly need to be regulated. Regent of Bangli, I Made Gianyar, recently said that the development of fisheries activities on the Lake is growing rapidly and becoming increasingly complex. The development of agriculture and fisheries strongly support the economic empowerment of people around the lake. Therefore, the conservation of biodiversity needs to be balanced with the development of tourism and other sectors. Lake Batur as the main source of water for biological and non biological activities has been neither adequately organized nor inventoried. There need to be regulations, said Gianyar, regarding the use of floating nets for example. Different needs must be accommodated in an integrated, efficient, effective and comprehensive manner, he added. “We invite Udayana University’s Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, to study the supporting capacity of the lake and asses the appropriate zoning for floating net (KJA) in Lake Batur. The handling and arrangement of floating nets in Lake Batur requires a clear regulation. We hope the study on the carrying capacity and zoning of floating nets can lead to a strategic policy and a suitable fishery aquaculture development program on and around Lake Batur. The basis of the management of Lake Batur must

be determined by the lake’s spatial ecosystem and integrated ecosystems including the lake, lakeshore and the water catchment area”, said Regent Gianyar during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held at the Museum of Batur Volcano, Kintamani, on Wednesday (Sep. 13). Head of the Bangli Agriculture, Food Security and Fishery Agency (PKP), I Wayan Sukartana, explained that the fisheries commodity wi the greatest market potential that can be developed on Lake Batur using the floating net system is Tilapia. According to Sukartana, the newly utilized land area reaches an average of 0.8 hectare per year from the total amount of potential land that could be developed ( 5 percent of the Lake Batur area reaching IDR 83.35). The annual average of fish production reaches 3,862 tons for cultivated fishery products, while fish catches reaches an average of 843.45 tons. “Fish cultivation is scattered in several villages namely; Songan A, Songan B, Central Batur, South Batur, Kedisan, Buahan, Abang Batu Dinding, Abang Songan and Trunyan with a total of 180 fish farmer groups”, said Sukartana. Meanwhile, head of the study team from the Faculty of Ma-

rine and Fisheries, Prof. I Wayan Arthana, PhD, said that Lake Batur has suffered severe damage that has caused pollution and sedimentation. This damage, he said was caused by agricultural waste, livestock waste, human settlement, forest fires, sulfur bursts, erosion and floating fish nets. Lake Batur also faces the problem of the absence of sewage treatment for water dumped into the lake, large fluctuations in the lake’s water levels and many large piles of garbage around the lake. Prof. Arthana added that the study aims to determine the most suitable layout of zoning for floating nets, the determination of the maximum number of floating nets allowed in Lake Batur, the determination of points or areas of the sulfur bursts along with the direction of the sulfur’s movement in the lade and create a model design for floating nets that would be worth developing in Lake Batur. “To achieve the ecological sustainability of Lake Batur, there needs to be clear regulations that take into consideration the economic interests of the community around the lake as well as the role of the community and the government in maintaining and persevering Lake Batur’s ecosystem. TOKYO - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering calling a snap election as early as next month to take advantage of an uptick in approval ratings and disarray in the main opposition party, domestic media reported on Sunday. Abe’s ratings have recovered to the 50 percent level in some polls, helped by public jitters over North Korea’s missile and nuclear tests and chaos in the opposition Democratic Party, struggling with singledigit support and defections. Abe told the head of his Liberal Democratic Party’s junior coalition partner, the Komeito party, that he could not rule out dissolving parliament’s lower house for a snap poll after the legislature convenes for an extra session from Sept. 28, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing unidentified informed sources. “Until now, it appeared the election would be next autumn, but ... we must always be ready for battle,” media quoted Komeito party chief Natsuo Yamaguchi as telling reporters on Saturday during a visit to Russia. This ritual took place tensely because after being given ritual the cow is released and then pursued by all the apparatuses of customary youth club. Chief of Asak customary village, Jero Dukuh Ketut Suta, delivered that the ritual is purely performed by local customary youth club. The preparation has been made since two weeks before the main event where they prepared the means of caru in the form of a bull. It was handed over to the secretary of customary youth club and placed in the area of the Patokan Truna and bathed every day at the Beji Yeh Inem spring. Every night, the bull is guarded by its apparatuses. When arriving at the peak of ritual on penanggal ping 6 Sasih Kaulu nuju Beteng, the bull of caru ritual is decorated with white and yellow fabric. Then, right in the forehead of the bull is marked with swastika image by whiting. Before the peak of the ritual takes place, the bull must be consecrated. Likewise, the entire apparatus of customary youth club do worship. “Before the peak of ritual, secretary of the customary youth club announces the rules of cutting down

The transformation of Hengqin, which is three times as large as Macau, is part of Beijing’s efforts to bolster links between Hong Kong, Macau and nine cities in the Pearl River Delta region, or so-called “Greater Bay Area”, modelled after other dynamic global bay areas such as Tokyo and San Francisco. “Hengqin will be the Orlando of China. Macau is Las Vegas (and) Hong Kong is New York,” said Larry Leung, an executive with Lai Sun that is helping build the Real Madrid complex at its “Novotown” project in Hengqin. “Within an hour you can have them all.” Novotown’s entertainment mix will also feature China’s first Lionsgate movie world with theme rides from blockbuster films such as the Hunger Games and Twilight, as well as a National Geographic educational center. And high-end hotel chains and luxury yacht makers are building more hotels and a marina on Hengqin.

British police arrest second man over London train bomb LONDON - A second man has been arrested over Friday’s bomb attack on a London underground train that injured 30 people, police said on Sunday, as Britain remained on its highest level of alert with soldiers helping provide security.

The 21-year-old man was detained under Britain’s Terrorism Act in the west London suburb of Hounslow just before midnight on Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. Police arrested an 18-year-old man in the port of Dover earlier on Saturday and then raided a property in Sunbury, a town near London and about four miles (six km) from Hounslow. The home-made bomb shot flames through a train carriage packed with commuters at west London’s Parsons Green Tube station but apparently failed to detonate fully. Islamic State claimed responsibility as it has for other attacks in Britain this year, including two in

London and one at a concert by American singer Ariana Grande in Manchester in May. Intelligence officials say there is scant evidence the militant group was behind the attacks. Prime Minister Theresa May put Britain on its highest security level of “critical” late on Friday, meaning another attack might be imminent. Soldiers and armed police were deployed to strategic locations such as nuclear power plants. The first man arrested on Saturday was detained in the departure lounge of the port of Dover in what police said was a “very significant” step. The last time Britain was put on “critical” alert was after a suicide bomber killed 22 people at the Ariana Grande concert. On that occasion, the threat level remained at the highest setting for four days while police raced to establish if the bomber had worked alone or with the help of others. Hurricane Jose staying off U.S. East Coast as Storm Maria forms

NORTH CAROLINA - Hurricane Jose is expected to pass east of the North Carolina coast on Monday and remain off the U.S. East Coast from Virginia to New England, while Tropical Storm Maria formed and is forecast to become a hurricane early next week, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Saturday. Maria could threaten several Caribbean islands, some of which were devastated by Hurricane Irma less than two weeks ago. It is expected to approach the Leeward Islands on Monday and become a hurricane around that time, the NHC said. A hurricane watch is in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts, Nevis and Montserrat and France has also issued a hurricane watch for the island of Guadeloupe. A hurricane watch is typically issued 48 hours before the first occurrence of storm-force winds, NHC said. Meanwhile, the NHC said the coastline from North Carolina to New England should monitor Hurricane Jose’s progress and forecast that tropical storm watches may be needed for portions of that stretch during the next day or two. “However, an increase in the size of the storm or a westward adjustment in the track forecast could bring tropical storm conditions closer to the Outer Banks” of North Carolina, the forecast said. As a large cyclone, Jose could also affect the Virginia-toNew England area, especially if it deviates from its forecast track, the NHC said. At 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT), the NHC said Hurricane Jose was moving northward at 6 miles per hour (106 kph), with maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour (130 kph). The NHC said it was generating swells affecting Bermuda, the Bahamas, the northern coasts of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, and much of the U.S. East Coast. It said these swells are likely to cause dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents for several days in these areas. The 2017 hurricane season in the Atlantic has been one of the most active in recent memory, generating the hugely powerful Irma that went on to lash Florida and Hurricane Harvey, which slammed into the Texas Gulf coast and caused deadly flooding in Houston. C Java enters drought emergency: governor

PEKALONGAN - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo stated that his region had been categorized in the drought disaster zone during this years dry season. “Almost 22 districts are now experiencing drought,” said Ganjar, after opening the exhibition Creativity and Innovation of Central Java, which is being held in the city of Pekalongan, Friday. He noted that since June 2017, to overcome the problem of water shortage for the community, the provincial government had conducted coordination meetings with several related elements to discuss the drought. At the coordination meeting, it has been decided in the short term to prepare the distribution of water

by channeling it through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the company and the local government, he revealed. “Therefore, we have asked the public to report to the local government when the region is hit by drought,” he said. As for areas where it is difficult to do clean water distribution, Ganjar stressed that it would be done by digging deep wells and pumps piping engineering. He hoped that the regional head would participate, whether the village head or subdistrict head monitor, so that the drought can be reported immediately. “Currently, many companies, both state-owned and local enterprises, and private companies are coming forward to help the Central Java Provincial Government through corporate social responsibility in overcoming drought in some areas,” he remarked. JAKARTA - The passenger train between the Jakarta city center and the International Airport of Soekarno-Hatta will start operate in November this year, Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said here on Friday. “Early next month the train will start trial operation and operation by the end of November,” Budi said. Earlier Edi Sukmoro, the Director of state run railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia said the airport train is expected to be operational in November. “Our hope is it would be operational in November but I said by the end of this year although we would

The route between the Manggarai railway station and the countrys largest airport via Sudirman BaruDuri- and Batu Ceper could be covered in 54 minutes. SINGAPORE - Triple Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton says he is trying to go vegan out of concern for the planet, love of animals and his own health. “It’s something I’ve kind of being going towards anyway. I stopped eating red meat two years ago,” the 32-year-old Mercedes driver told reporters ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. “This year I stopped eating chicken and then kind of went back to it and now I’ve stopped again. So I’ve generally been pescatarian really for the majority of the year and then I’m cutting fish.” Hamilton, who has 4.8 million followers on Twitter, told fans on Snapchat earlier in the week that he was going to watch the Netflix documentary ‘What the Health’ and was “on a mission” to go vegan. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry and vegans also do not eat animal products such as eggs and dairy foods. “I have actually eaten plant-based food for the last two days and it has been amazing. So far I don’t feel like I’m missing out,” said the Briton, who has won six of 13 races this season and claimed a record 69th pole

position. “But I am at the race so I have chefs here. I don’t know how easy that’s going to be when I get home. That is going to be a real test.” Hamilton, who is a regular at celebrity haunts across the Atlantic with friends from the fashion and music industries as well as the world of sport, said he knew many others who had made the same decision. Sergio Aguero bagged a hat-trick as free-scoring Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League with an irresistible 6-0 victory over Watford on Saturday.

Burnley’s main priority this season was to improve their away form after taking just seven points from a possible 57 on the road last term. But even manager Sean Dyche could not have expected such a dramatic turnaround with the first three trips yielding a win at Chelsea followed by draws at Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. The visitors could even have sneaked their first win at Anfield since 1974 had Ben Mee converted one of two headers from late corners.
