GIANYAR - Weakening global economy today expands to many sectors. However, the economic slowdown in Bali is said not to be caused by this, but due to government policy to tourism sector. “Weakening global economy does not merely affect our tourism. It is the policy of local government resulting in the economic weakening of Bali,” said Chairman of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati. He described that this condition occurs as a result of the government allowing foreign investors with large capital to operate in Bali. In the meantime, only a few local entrepreneurs get the chance. As a result, the capital deposited in Bali is only on the salaries of employees and small amount of capital belongs to a few local entrepreneurs.

HONG KONG - British actor Benedict Cumberbatch said at the world premiere of his new film “Doctor Strange” he relished playing his first role as a superhero. Amid fireworks and screaming fans at the red carpet premiere in Hong Kong on Thursday night, Cumberbatch said the film based on a popular American comic was a classic Marvel offering. “It sort of fulfilled everything that you could have imagined from
a Marvel film. It’s big. It’s bold and it is very new, visually obviously, but also some of the tone of it,” he said. Cumberbatch who gained international acclaim for his role in the TV series “Sherlock”, was joined by co-star Tilda Swinton, direc-
tor Scott Derrickson and Marvel Studios executive producer Kevin Feige. Cumberbatch plays Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who loses the use of his hands in a car accident and discovers the world of sorcery, with Swinton his mentor. increased but the room occupancy cannot be maximal. Moreover due to tight competition, a number of hotels in Kuta have to decrease their room rates to IDR 200,000,” he explained. This former regent of Gianyar also mentioned this condition as a red light to Bali’s economy, so that it is necessary to apply a moratorium for the growth of accommodation in southern Bali. “All this time, the moratorium is only a discourse. In reality, the number of hotels owned by outside investors continues to grow. SOME economic sectors in Indonesia face instability. One of the triggers is depreciation of the rupiah against the US dollar. The sector whose performance is also affected by the growth of this condition is the property because of the price of building materials such as iron constructions is mostly still imported. In the meantime, the component greatly affecting the selling price of the house unit is the skyrocketing price of land. A member of the professional certification agency (SLP) of the REI, Made Ariyana, said on Saturday (Oct. 15) that bigotry against the property as an investment instrument has made the business grow in accordance with economic conditions. If the economy is good, the growth will be significant, and vice versa. “Economic crisis has clearly made the purchasing power drop or consumers restrain to purchase property or they just wait and see. Currently, it very much depends on the developers how they package their products. If the purchasing power slumps, it can be tricked by minimizing the house size or plot or giving rewards and so on,” affirmed Ariyana. This Director of Ariyana Property revealed that declining price of property product mostly happens due to mismanagement of the developer itself. The property business is capital intensive and needs a long breath. So, if the developers have larger burden of loan than their own capital will result in a problem when a crisis occurs. On that account, the project needs to be sold at the basic cost of production or taken over by other parties. “Currently it is in the bottom price, so that it is time to make a purchase. This phenomenon is an anomaly in the property business because wherever there is no economic sector being capable of continuously growing for a decade, there is always a natural process making the business grow. Indeed, there are times of momentary pause or weakening. It is meant to look for reasonable price to grow again,” he said. Ariyana added that the moment for property to grow again is very clear. It is indicated by the government support such as in the form of tax amnesties and improvement in licensing services, so that national property entrepreneurs have started launching
their new projects. Gede Semadi Putra, an administrator of the REI Bali, admitted that earlier this year the economic condition was rather sluggish. However after the tax amnesty, the property business begins to recover, especially for the price of home under IDR 600 million. “The home demand of such price remains high. However, the buyers indeed having the willingness to purchase properties are sometimes hampered by banking regulations,” he affirmed. Not a few potential buyers want to take advantage of the mortgage to pay for the home but they are finally rejected by bank providing the mortgage because their income does not meet credit analysis requirements. Bank requires that revenue of potential consumers should be reflected in the bank mutation. So, revenue in cash is rather difficult to be considered by banks. Besides, some prospective customers also often ignore their credit card bill leading to a poor collectability. “As a result, the bank with strict requirements of the financial services authority (OJK) refused to provide mortgages when considering the track record of prospective consumers. Moreover, currently it is widely offer the loans without collateral. If the prospective customers of our home are consumptive, it would jeopardize their own track record. It happens
because the loan is not for productive purposes,” said this Director of PT SKI Land. Besides, the income tax of 2.5 percent was issued last month. Actually it alleviates the property transaction activity, but the application process takes long time to obtain validation from the KPP. “This condition is also complained by all fellow developers, REI Bali in particular. As a result, the process will get delayed for so long while waiting for validation from the tax office,” affirmed this property businessman from Karangasem. On that account, the problem does not lie in sale, but in the so tight mortgage and too long process of sale and purchase deed. Finally, the developers experience cash flow difficulties due to slow disbursement of the loan agreement. According to him, the government must loosen the regulations to move the economy as a whole. When the property sector moves, hundreds of supporting activities of the developer will also surely evolve. Currently, the development of property sales occurs to the subsidized home worth IDR 133.5 million in the area of Buleleng, Negara and Karangasem. REI itself targeted to develop 3,000 homes in Bali this year. However, the requirements to have a subsidized home are not easy, either. “We build subsidized homes to secure the cash flow of the company. Considering the price, it is very difficult to achieve because the price of land in Bali has been so high alleviated with rampant extortion. Hopefully, the operation against such extortion by Mr. President will make the fee become more reasonable,” he hoped. (rah)

Export of bamboo handicraft slumps
BANGLI - Export of the bamboo handicrafts these days is quite sluggish. It happens due to weakening consumer’s purchasing power overseas. These conditions cause the artisans to get frustrated. So far, marketing of their products is only oriented in the local market. One of the crafters at Tanggahan Peken hamlet, Sulahan, Susut, Wayan Suardana, stated that sluggish condition of the export market has been underway since last year. They do not get many orders of the products as ever before. “Since a year ago, there has been no order from the overseas market. Previously, we have got the orders from France,” he said, not long ago. Sluggish export market causes them to just focus on the sales in the local market. This condition was also confirmed by craftsman Nyoman Purna. Condition of the export market has made a number of artisans in the region to only pursue the production of local handicrafts, such as bamboo baskets. “Sorry, I do not know what causes the sluggish export. Perhaps, it happens due to declining purchasing power,” he said. The Head of the Bangli Commerce and Industry Agency, I Nengah Sudibia, justified the conditions experienced by craftsmen. He affirmed that sluggish condition of the export market does not only occur in Bangli, but almost throughout Indonesia. “Indeed, it is the real condition,” he said. To prevent crafters from leaving the industrial sector, this official from Penglipuran village admitted to persistently provide guidance for craftsman. Handicraft products having become the target of foreign consumers are asked to be still maintained. “In order to be able to attract the export market, we suggest crafters to also make attractive design,” he concluded. Amid fried chicken craze, foreign firms ruffle Korean feathers
SEOUL - Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Global poultry producers hoping to cash in on South Korea’s craze for fried chicken and beer face a market crowded with local birds that have clipped prices and profits for Korean growers. The popularity of the combination, known as “chimaek”, has boomed in recent years, fuelled by its appearance in a hit South Korean television drama and an explosion of restaurant chains. Chimaek stores now dot Korea and their ubiquitous delivery services shuttle freshly fried chicken and beer to homes, offices and
picnics. At a Seoul outlet of the popular BBQ chain recently, Kim Chang hoo said he and his colleagues had planned to go to a sushi restaurant for a company dinner, but decided instead on chimaek - a mashup of chicken and maekju, the Korean word for beer. “I cannot help think of chicken, even when I’m eating sushi,” Kim, 24, said. “I don’t know if it’s just me, but chicken always comes to my mind and is always delicious.” The craze has pitted domestic chicken producers in an increasingly tough battle for market share, prompting an over-supply and a
drop in farm prices. Now imports are set to rise as South Korea lifts bans on overseas suppliers who are attracted by still low per capita consumption rates. South Koreans ate 14.2 kg (31 pounds) of poultry meat each in 2015, a near three-fold increase since 1990 according to OECD data, but only half the global average of 28.6 kg per person. South Korea’s market for chicken is expected to grow 5 percent to 1.01 million tonnes this year and a further 3 percent in 2017, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), boosted by the chimaek craze.

Supply is currently dominated by the country’s three biggest producers - Harim Co Ltd, Dongwoo Co Ltd and Maniker Co Ltd. All have seen their earnings hit in the first half of this year as they ramp up production to secure market share. Park Ju-No, the managing director at Harim, acknowledged producers were engaged in a “game of chicken”, each holding a potentially dangerous course in the hope their rivals flinch first. “We think it’s more crucial to focus on quality differentiation to survive instead of adjusting pro-
duction, even though it contributes to a glut,” said Park. Park expects the imbalance to ease in the second half as the number of slaughtered chickens drops in summer, but sees the market over-supplied again next year as imports from the United States and Thailand resume. In July, Asia’s fourth-largest economy lifted ban on chicken imports from the United States, imposed due to a bird flu outbreak in 2015. It is likely to resume imports in November from Thailand, banned since a 2004 bird flu outbreak, according to Korea’s Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency. (rtr)
Legionnaires’ disease infects Australian citizens in Bali
DENPASAR - The Head of the Bali Health Agency, Ketut Suarjaya, said that his agency found the presence of Legionnaires’ disease that affected Australian citizens in Bali. “Surprisingly it only occurred in Bali and is not found outside Bali. Incidentally I have the data about the cases at the office, where the infected patients are entirely Australian citizens,” he said, Friday (Oct. 14). Australia citizens making a visit to Bali and returning to their home country showed the symptoms such as cough, runny nose and shortness of breath. Having been examined, the lungs were infected by Legionella pneumonia bacteria. His agency has checked hotel staff and indeed there was positive but did not show any symptoms. “There are also Balinese people working at hotel infected by the disease, but do not indicate the symptoms,” he added. It is said the bacteria are found in the air conditioning (AC), water of swimming pool and cooling tower of hotels at specific temperatures. On that account, the air conditioning needs to be cleaned up regularly and the pool also needs to be cleaned up regularly and given chlorine. (kmb42)

Glass puppet painting of Nagasepaha
Survives amid difficulty of market access
NAGASEPAHA village in Buleleng subdistrict is known as producer of glass puppet painting. Although the origin is unknown, the current generation of this village remains to preserve the art of painting on glass surface. Glass puppet painters of this village get difficulty in marketing their products. This condition makes the painters just rely on direct requests when there are travelers making a visit to their village. The emergence of glass puppet painting at the village was pioneered by one of the community leaders named Jro Dalang Diah. At first, Jro Dalang Diah carved leather puppets and a number of tools to support the cremation ceremony. At that time, shadow puppet works of Jro Dalang Diah was requested by foreign tourist. After getting the opportunity, Jro Dalang Diah tried to paint puppet characters on glass medium. Since then, this painting technique was taught to his son and immediate family. Today, this glass puppet painting grows and becomes a major profession of some Nagasepaha residents. One of the sons of Jro Dalang Diah, Ketut Sekar, recently told that glass puppet painting is much different from painting on canvas media having been prevalent. Moreover, this glass puppet painter requires high skill and the ability to imagine and understand the story of the puppet becoming the source of inspiration before painting. Residents from outside the village are ascertained to be unable to master the technique of glass puppet painting quickly, but in contrast to what is experienced by
residents denoting the descendant of the glass puppet painter. By learning and practice (self-taught—Ed), they are able to paint glass puppets well. It is inseparable from their belief that painting puppet on glass has something to do with the taksu or divine vibration. To make a piece of glass puppet painting measuring 40 cm times 60 cm will take five days. “When taught by the late father, I was immediately told to paint. In terms of technique, it is clearly not the same as the painting media widely used today. Due to such a lesson, I can still paint on glass medium,” he said. art shops located outside the region. Many of his works have been collected by travelers from Germany, Australia, Italy and other countries. On this condition, he hoped the government or any other related agencies could help painters like him in expanding the market access. With a maximum market access, the demand will automatically increase and the artists will get many more orders. “Currently, if there are guests they can sell. If the government can help in the matter of marketing, I have confidence that glass puppet painting in this region will be able to provide income to improve people’s livelihoods,” he said. In the meantime, headman of Nagasepaha, Wayan Sumeken, said that glass puppet painting is the pride and the icon of his village. Market access has been emerging for a long time and cannot be resolved properly. To overcome difficulties experienced by the glass puppet painters, the village government empowers the painters by preparing Nagasepaha into the center for glass puppet painting craft. This measure will be followed by promotional efforts through mass media and in cooperation with local government. “When having been made into craft center plus promotions, more outsiders will come to make a visit. SINGARAJA - Buleleng is rich in unique traditions and religious rituals and they are not owned by other regions. Three customary villages in Sawan subdistrict namely the Kerobokan, Kloncing and Sinabun routinely hold nyekar tradition. This ritual is a heritage that must be undertaken by villagers by staying up all night on Kerobokan Beach as on Saturday (Oct. 15). This tradition is in a series of pakelem ritual held amid high seas. The implementation involved the apparatus of customary village, head of the family and family members together. Inevitably, the beach is thronged by villagers. Aside from rituals, the moment is also taken advantage to have a recreation with family. They carry sacrificial offerings and lunch to be enjoyed together on the beach. On that account, they are willing to come to the beach early, just to take pleasure in beautiful sunset and pounding waves while enjoying lunch brought from home.
Main road access of the nyekar tradition has been crowded by pacing residents from early morning. The residents staying up all night from the morning brought a bamboo variety of sizes to build a kind of tent on the beach with a tarpaulin roof. In addition, there were also residents building tent using fabric or parachute roof. After that, residents took a rest inside while waiting for the starting time of ritual procession of the nyekar tradition. After passing 21:00, residents were busy preparing for the nyekar procession or delivering pakelem ritual to the open sea. Pakelem ritual usually takes place about 03:00 or before sunrise. All the ritual paraphernalia are placed on banana midribs having been arranged in such a way quickly. Some ritual paraphernalia commonly called sekah are washed out to sea. A temple priest of Kerobokan customary village, Jro Made Mangku Sudirtha, told that nyekar ritual is an

expression of gratitude to God because the ceremony implemented in the territory of customary village has gone well. People have confidence that this ritual serves as a proclamation of the errors occurred during the ritual. After this ritual started, the next day becomes the starting point to live a new life at the customary village. According to Sudirtha, nyekar ritual procession has been carried out for generations. Even though time has evolved, people still very enthusiastically involve in the nyekar procession to its conclusion. However, the development of time has also affected how the procession takes place. Before the rapid development of transportation means, the customary villagers usually walk to the Kerobokan Beach. Nearly 200 nations agree binding deal to cut greenhouse gases
KIGALI - Nearly 200 nations have agreed a legally binding deal to cut back on greenhouse gases used in refrigerators and air conditioners, a major move against climate change that prompted loud cheers when it was announced on Saturday. The deal, which includes the world’s two biggest economies, the United States and China, divides countries into three groups with different deadlines to reduce the use of factory-made hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gases, which can be 10,000 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as greenhouse gases. “While diplomacy is never easy, we can work together to leave our children a planet that is safer, more prosperous, more secure, and more free than the one that was left for us,” the White House said in a statement on the deal. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the deal was “a monumental step forward” as he left the talks in the Rwandan capital of Kigali late on Friday. Under the pact, developed nations, including much of Europe and the United States, commit to reducing their use of the gases incrementally, starting with a 10 percent cut by 2019 and reaching 85 percent by 2036. Many wealthier nations have already begun to reduce their use of HFCs. Two groups of developing countries will freeze their use of the gases by either 2024 or 2028, and then gradually reduce their use. India, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and the Gulf countries will meet the later deadline. They refused the earlier date because they have fast-expanding middle classes who want air conditioning in their hot climates, and because India feared damaging its growing industries. “Last year in Paris, we promised to keep the world safe from the worst effects of climate change. A quick reduction of HFCs could be a major contribution to slowing climate change, avoiding perhaps 0.5 degrees Celsius (0.9 Fahrenheit) of a projected rise in average temperatures by 2100, scientists say. Environmental groups had called for an ambitious agreement on cutting HFCs to limit the damage from the roughly 1.6 billion new air conditioning units expected to
come on stream by 2050, reflecting increased demand from an expanding middle class in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Benson Ireri, a senior policy adviser at aid group Christian Aid, said that all African countries had volunteered for the earlier deadline because they worried about global warming pushing more of their citizens into poverty. “It was a shame that India and a handful of other countries chose a slower time frame for phasing down HFCs but the bulk of nations, including China, have seen the benefits of going for a quicker reduction. It’s also been encouraging to see small island states and African countries a part of this higher ambition group,” he said in a statement. A scientific panel advising the signatories to the deal said phasing out HFCs will cost between $4 billion and $6 billion, said Manoj Ku-
mar Singh, India’s joint secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. “The implementation starts from 2024 onwards so there is enough time to plan and mobilise finance,” he told Reuters. Donors had already put $80 million in a fund to start implementing the agreement, said Gina McCarthy, administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. But Sergey Vasiliev, the head of the Russian delegation, said Russia’s estimates of the costs were higher and argued countries’ contributions to a multilateral fund to help poor countries adapt their technology should be voluntary. The details of the funding will be finalised at a later meeting. “We think it is more than $10 billion and some experts estimated up to $20 billion,” he told Reuters. The HFC talks build on the
1987 Montreal Protocol, which succeeded in phasing out the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), widely used at that time in refrigeration and aerosols. The protocol contains provisions for noncompliance, ranging from the provision of technical and financial assistance to trade sanctions in ozone depleting substances, which will be widened to include HFCs. The original aim of the Montreal Protocol was to stop the depletion of the ozone layer, which shields the planet from ultraviolet rays linked to skin cancer and other conditions. That effort cost $3.5 billion over 25 years, said Stephen Olivier Andersen, the director of research at Washington-based think tank Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development. meeting, led by Indonesia and South Africa, aims to improve interaction and cooperation among IORAs businessmen and its dialogue partners in order to develop cooperation in economy, trade and investment in the Indian Ocean region. “The IORBF agrees that economic cooperation opportunities need to be explored further and these include the IORA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IORA-CEPA ) and IORA Business Travel Card (IBTC),” Yugi noted. These initiatives are supported by IORA member countries, among
others, South Africa, Australia, India, Indonesia, Kenya and Mauritius. According to him, the forum agrees that the establishment of IORA-CEPA is very important to improve economic cooperation, trade and investment in the Indian Ocean region. Jokowi inaugurated the Oesman Al Khair grand mosque by signing an inscription. After signing the inscription, President Jokowi stepped into the mosque along with his entourage. Hardline Muslim groups protest over Jakarta’s ethnic Chinese governor
JAKARTA - Thousands of hardline Muslims rallied in Jakarta on Friday in protest against the city’s ethnic Chinese and Christian governor, further fuelling ethnic tensions ahead his re-election bid in February. Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known by his nickname “Ahok”, became Jakarta’s first ethnic Chinese governor in 2014, but hardline Muslims have opposed his rise to power. Dressed in white, thousands of members of several hardline groups chanted anti-Ahok slogans surrounded by tight military and police security, but the demonstration was otherwise generally peaceful. Speaking on the sidelines of the demonstration, Forum Umat Islam Secretary General Muhammad al Khaththath didn’t single out Purnama, but said leaders should be Muslim “because that is what the Koran calls for.” Ahok has gained a reputation for being a tough reformer, and has recently come under attack from Muslim groups for comments about the Koran. The organiser of Friday’s protest, the hardline Islamic Defenders Front, is known for violent protests and attacks against minorities around the country since its creation in 1999. It has also frequently protested over Purnama. However, FPI is small compared
with Indonesia’s biggest Islamic group, the moderate Nahdlatul Ulama, which has about 40 million members. Ahmad Ishomuddin, a senior official at Nahdlatul Ulama, told Reuters that his organisation did not support the protest, and that violence went against religious teachings. “This could be dangerous,” Ishomuddin said, urging Muslims to remain calm and to forgive Purnama over the recent comments. “Ahok, whose tongue slipped, has apologised.” Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, priding itself as a peacemaker, and the vast majority of its population practise a moderate form of the religion. Indonesia also has a large ethnic Chinese minority, many of whom are Buddhist. The country has a history of anti-Chinese violence, most sharply in the late 1990s amid the political and economic crisis that brought down authoritarian ruler Suharto. In July, authorities detained seven people on suspicion of attacking several Buddhist temples in Sumatra.(rtr)

After turbulent week, Trump revisits talk of ‘rigged election’
PORTSMOUTH - U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, fighting to overcome setbacks and polls showing a tough path to the White House, on Saturday doubled down on his claim that the U.S. election is rigged against him. Trump challenged accusations from several women that he made unwanted sexual advances toward them. Trump spokesman Jason Miller denied a new allegation that surfaced on Saturday, saying there was “no way” Trump had kissed a woman without permission 20 years ago at his Florida resort. Trump told an outdoor rally in New Hampshire on Saturday that the media was sharing the accusations against him to boost Democrat Hillary Clinton and damage his own White House hopes. Trump has presented no evidence for claims he has made for months that the election could be fixed to prevent him from reaching the Oval Office. Leaders on both sides of the political spectrum worry that this rhetoric, which supporters sometimes repeat in interviews, undermines the democratic process. “It looks to me like a rigged
election,” Trump said in New Hampshire. “The election is being rigged by corrupt media pushing completely false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect her president.” He started the day tweeting several times that the election was being swayed by a media conspiracy. “This election is being rigged by the media pushing false and unsubstantiated charges, and outright lies, in order to elect Crooked Hillary!” he said in one Twitter post. He reiterated similar claims at a later rally in Bangor, Maine. Clinton, a former U.S. secretary of state, led Trump by seven percentage points in the most recent Reuters/Ipsos national opinion poll of voters. A new analysis found she was heavily favored to reach the 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure the presidency.
Trump’s campaign said on Saturday it had raised a total of $100 million in September, mostly from small donors but also including a $2 million monthly contribution from Trump. At the same time, the campaign squabbled with the Republican party in Ohio, a key swing state in the Nov. 8 election, whose Republican leaders have not been shy about concerns with Trump. On Saturday, Trump’s Ohio state director released a letter saying that Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges “no longer has any affiliation” with the campaign. Borges responded that the state party had been actively helping Trump there. Trump’s speech in New Hampshire was intended to focus on a plan to end deaths caused by opioid overdoses, something he often mentions on the campaign trail. LAUSANNE - Syria talks convened by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Saturday evening failed to agree on a common strategy with Russia to end the conflict in Syria, now in its sixth year. Kerry was seeking a new path to peace after failing to secure a ceasefire in direct talks with Moscow, one of Syria’s key backers, amid mounting international outrage over the Russian and Syrian bombardment of rebel-held eastern Aleppo. KINGSTON - Jamaica’s Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt will run his last race on home soil at June’s Racers Grand Prix before retiring from competition two months later, he said on Friday. The 30-year-old, who won the 100 metres at this year’s Racers Grand Prix, has already said he plans to retire from the sport after the Aug. 5-13 world championships in London having won nine Olympic gold medals. “The Racers Grand Prix will be my last race in Jamaica people, it will be the last time I run in Jamaica,” Bolt told Television Jamaica’s “Smile Jamaica” morning magazine programme. The Racers Grand Prix will be held on June 10. The Jamaican, who drew down the curtain on his Olympic career in August by securing a sweep of the sprint titles for a third successive Games, will resume training next month. Bolt has wild card entries for both the 100 and 200 metres at the worlds but remains undecided on whether he will run one or both events, saying only it will be his last competition.“Yes I am definitely going to retire after the world championships in London, that will be my last one,” said Bolt. KINGSTON - Jamaica’s Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt will run his last race on home soil at June’s Racers Grand Prix before retiring from competition two months later, he said on Friday. The 30-year-old, who won the 100 metres at this year’s Racers Grand Prix, has already said he plans to retire from the sport after the Aug. 5-13 world championships in London having won nine Olympic gold medals. “The Racers Grand Prix will be my last race in Jamaica people, it will be the last time I run in Jamaica,” Bolt told Television Jamaica’s “Smile Jamaica” morning magazine programme. The Racers Grand Prix will be held on June 10. The Jamaican, who drew down the curtain on his Olympic career in August by securing a sweep of the sprint titles for a third successive Games, will resume training next month. Bolt has wild card entries for both the 100 and 200 metres at the worlds but remains undecided on whether he will run one or both events, saying only it will be his last competition.“Yes I am definitely going to retire after the world championships in London, that will be my last one,” said Bolt. After turbulent week, Trump revisits talk of ‘rigged election’
PORTSMOUTH - U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, fighting to overcome setbacks and polls showing a tough path to the White House, on Saturday doubled down on his claim that the U.S. election is rigged against him. Trump challenged accusations from several women that he made unwanted sexual advances toward them. Trump spokesman Jason Miller denied a new allegation that surfaced on Saturday, saying there was “no way” Trump had kissed a woman without permission 20 years ago at his Florida resort. Trump told an outdoor rally in New Hampshire on Saturday that the media was sharing the accusations against him to boost Democrat Hillary Clinton and damage his own White House hopes. Trump has presented no evidence for claims he has made for months that the election could be fixed to prevent him from reaching the Oval Office. Leaders on both sides of the political spectrum worry that this rhetoric, which supporters sometimes repeat in interviews, undermines the democratic process. “It looks to me like a rigged
election,” Trump said in New Hampshire. “The election is being rigged by corrupt media pushing completely false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect her president.” He started the day tweeting several times that the election was being swayed by a media conspiracy. “This election is being rigged by the media pushing false and unsubstantiated charges, and outright lies, in order to elect Crooked Hillary!” he said in one Twitter post. He reiterated similar claims at a later rally in Bangor, Maine. Clinton, a former U.S. secretary of state, led Trump by seven percentage points in the most recent Reuters/Ipsos national opinion poll of voters. A new analysis found she was heavily favored to reach the 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure the presidency.
Trump’s campaign said on Saturday it had raised a total of $100 million in September, mostly from small donors but also including a $2 million monthly contribution from Trump. At the same time, the campaign squabbled with the Republican party in Ohio, a key swing state in the Nov. 8 election, whose Republican leaders have not been shy about concerns with Trump. On Saturday, Trump’s Ohio state director released a letter saying that Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges “no longer has any affiliation” with the campaign. Borges responded that the state party had been actively helping Trump there. Trump’s speech in New Hampshire was intended to focus on a plan to end deaths caused by opioid overdoses, something he often mentions on the campaign trail. LAUSANNE - Syria talks convened by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Saturday evening failed to agree on a common strategy with Russia to end the conflict in Syria, now in its sixth year. Kerry was seeking a new path to peace after failing to secure a ceasefire in direct talks with Moscow, one of Syria’s key backers, amid mounting international outrage over the Russian and Syrian bombardment of rebel-held eastern Aleppo. Kerry hosted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and seven foreign ministers from the region - from Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt - weeks after the collapse of a painstakingly crafted U.S.-Russian ceasefire plan that many saw as the
last hope for peace this year. Kerry told reporters there was consensus on a number of options that could lead to a ceasefire, but conceded that there had been some tense moments during Saturday’s talks. “I would characterize this as an example of what we wanted, which was a brainstorming and a very candid first-time discussion,” he said. “A number of ideas came from the number of different ministers as we hoped that might be able to shape some different approaches.” But the meeting failed to come up with a joint statement or a shared vision on how to move forward. Nearly 200 nations agree binding deal to cut greenhouse gases
KIGALI - Nearly 200 nations have agreed a legally binding deal to cut back on greenhouse gases used in refrigerators and air conditioners, a major move against climate change that prompted loud cheers when it was announced on Saturday. The deal, which includes the world’s two biggest economies, the United States and China, divides countries into three groups with different deadlines to reduce the use of factory-made hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gases, which can be 10,000 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as greenhouse gases. “While diplomacy is never easy, we can work together to leave our children a planet that is safer, more prosperous, more secure, and more free than the one that was left for us,” the White House said in a statement on the deal. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the deal was “a monumental step forward” as he left the talks in the Rwandan capital of Kigali late on Friday. Under the pact, developed nations, including much of Europe and the United States, commit to reducing their use of the gases incrementally, starting with a 10 percent cut by 2019 and reaching 85 percent by 2036. Many wealthier nations have already begun to reduce their use of HFCs. Two groups of developing countries will freeze their use of the gases by either 2024 or 2028, and then gradually reduce their use. India, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and the Gulf countries will meet the later deadline. They refused the earlier date because they have fast-expanding middle classes who want air conditioning in their hot climates, and because India feared damaging its growing industries. “Last year in Paris, we promised to keep the world safe from the worst effects of climate change. A quick reduction of HFCs could be a major contribution to slowing climate change, avoiding perhaps 0.5 degrees Celsius (0.9 Fahrenheit) of a projected rise in average temperatures by 2100, scientists say. Environmental groups had called for an ambitious agreement on cutting HFCs to limit the damage from the roughly 1.6 billion new air conditioning units expected to
come on stream by 2050, reflecting increased demand from an expanding middle class in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Benson Ireri, a senior policy adviser at aid group Christian Aid, said that all African countries had volunteered for the earlier deadline because they worried about global warming pushing more of their citizens into poverty. “It was a shame that India and a handful of other countries chose a slower time frame for phasing down HFCs but the bulk of nations, including China, have seen the benefits of going for a quicker reduction. It’s also been encouraging to see small island states and African countries a part of this higher ambition group,” he said in a statement. A scientific panel advising the signatories to the deal said phasing out HFCs will cost between $4 billion and $6 billion, said Manoj Ku-
mar Singh, India’s joint secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. “The implementation starts from 2024 onwards so there is enough time to plan and mobilise finance,” he told Reuters. Donors had already put $80 million in a fund to start implementing the agreement, said Gina McCarthy, administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. But Sergey Vasiliev, the head of the Russian delegation, said Russia’s estimates of the costs were higher and argued countries’ contributions to a multilateral fund to help poor countries adapt their technology should be voluntary. The details of the funding will be finalised at a later meeting. “We think it is more than $10 billion and some experts estimated up to $20 billion,” he told Reuters. The HFC talks build on the
1987 Montreal Protocol, which succeeded in phasing out the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), widely used at that time in refrigeration and aerosols. The protocol contains provisions for noncompliance, ranging from the provision of technical and financial assistance to trade sanctions in ozone depleting substances, which will be widened to include HFCs. The original aim of the Montreal Protocol was to stop the depletion of the ozone layer, which shields the planet from ultraviolet rays linked to skin cancer and other conditions. That effort cost $3.5 billion over 25 years, said Stephen Olivier Andersen, the director of research at Washington-based think tank Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development. YOGYAKARTA - The Chairman of the Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum (IORBF), who is also the Deputy Head of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Division at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, Yugi Prayanto, has proposed to introduce a business travel card for all members of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). “The IORBF needs to come up with a concrete initiative to improve economic cooperation and business in the Indian Ocean region,” Yugi said here on Friday. He pointed out that the IORBF
meeting, led by Indonesia and South Africa, aims to improve interaction and cooperation among IORAs businessmen and its dialogue partners in order to develop cooperation in economy, trade and investment in the Indian Ocean region. “The IORBF agrees that economic cooperation opportunities need to be explored further and these include the IORA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IORA-CEPA ) and IORA Business Travel Card (IBTC),” Yugi noted. These initiatives are supported by IORA member countries, among
others, South Africa, Australia, India, Indonesia, Kenya and Mauritius. According to him, the forum agrees that the establishment of IORA-CEPA is very important to improve economic cooperation, trade and investment in the Indian Ocean region. The IORA-CEPA, Yugi pointed out, is expected to become an umbrella for IORA economic cooperation in order to increase trade and investment, open market access, develop industry as well as strengthen regional value chain and structural reforms.(ant)
NORTH KAYONG - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the North Kayong Grand Mosque on Saturday during his visit to West Kalimantan to attend the peak event of Sail Karimata. Jokowi inaugurated the Oesman Al Khair grand mosque by signing an inscription. After signing the inscription, President Jokowi stepped into the mosque along with his entourage. The mosque has been built with Rp38 billion worth of funds. “This is a beautiful floating mosque with the sea in the background,” Jokowi remarked after a tour of the mosque. A number of officials also planted other trees. Oesman Sapta planted a Sukadana durian tree, which was the mascot of the North Koyang District. Hardline Muslim groups protest over Jakarta’s ethnic Chinese governor
JAKARTA - Thousands of hardline Muslims rallied in Jakarta on Friday in protest against the city’s ethnic Chinese and Christian governor, further fuelling ethnic tensions ahead his re-election bid in February. Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known by his nickname “Ahok”, became Jakarta’s first ethnic Chinese governor in 2014, but hardline Muslims have opposed his rise to power. Dressed in white, thousands of members of several hardline groups chanted anti-Ahok slogans surrounded by tight military and police security, but the demonstration was otherwise generally peaceful. Speaking on the sidelines of the demonstration, Forum Umat Islam Secretary General Muhammad al Khaththath didn’t single out Purnama, but said leaders should be Muslim “because that is what the Koran calls for.” Ahok has gained a reputation for being a tough reformer, and has recently come under attack from Muslim groups for comments about the Koran. The organiser of Friday’s protest, the hardline Islamic Defenders Front, is known for violent protests and attacks against minorities around the country since its creation in 1999. It has also frequently protested over Purnama. However, FPI is small compared
with Indonesia’s biggest Islamic group, the moderate Nahdlatul Ulama, which has about 40 million members. Ahmad Ishomuddin, a senior official at Nahdlatul Ulama, told Reuters that his organisation did not support the protest, and that violence went against religious teachings. “This could be dangerous,” Ishomuddin said, urging Muslims to remain calm and to forgive Purnama over the recent comments. “Ahok, whose tongue slipped, has apologised.” Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, priding itself as a peacemaker, and the vast majority of its population practise a moderate form of the religion. Indonesia also has a large ethnic Chinese minority, many of whom are Buddhist. The country has a history of anti-Chinese violence, most sharply in the late 1990s amid the political and economic crisis that brought down authoritarian ruler Suharto. In July, authorities detained seven people on suspicion of attacking several Buddhist temples in Sumatra.(rtr)

SINGARAJA - Buleleng is rich in unique traditions and religious rituals and they are not owned by other regions. Three customary villages in Sawan subdistrict namely the Kerobokan, Kloncing and Sinabun routinely hold nyekar tradition. This ritual is a heritage that must be undertaken by villagers by staying up all night on Kerobokan Beach as on Saturday (Oct. 15). This tradition is in a series of pakelem ritual held amid high seas. The implementation involved the apparatus of customary village, head of the family and family members together. Inevitably, the beach is thronged by villagers. Aside from rituals, the moment is also taken advantage to have a recreation with family. They carry sacrificial offerings and lunch to be enjoyed together on the beach. On that account, they are willing to come to the beach early, just to take pleasure in beautiful sunset and pounding waves while enjoying lunch brought from home.
Main road access of the nyekar tradition has been crowded by pacing residents from early morning. The residents staying up all night from the morning brought a bamboo variety of sizes to build a kind of tent on the beach with a tarpaulin roof. In addition, there were also residents building tent using fabric or parachute roof. After that, residents took a rest inside while waiting for the starting time of ritual procession of the nyekar tradition. After passing 21:00, residents were busy preparing for the nyekar procession or delivering pakelem ritual to the open sea. Pakelem ritual usually takes place about 03:00 or before sunrise. All the ritual paraphernalia are placed on banana midribs having been arranged in such a way quickly. Some ritual paraphernalia commonly called sekah are washed out to sea. A temple priest of Kerobokan customary village, Jro Made Mangku Sudirtha, told that nyekar ritual is an

expression of gratitude to God because the ceremony implemented in the territory of customary village has gone well. People have confidence that this ritual serves as a proclamation of the errors occurred during the ritual. After this ritual started, the next day becomes the starting point to live a new life at the customary village. According to Sudirtha, nyekar ritual procession has been carried out for generations. Even though time has evolved, people still very enthusiastically involve in the nyekar procession to its conclusion. However, the development of time has also affected how the procession takes place. Before the rapid development of transportation means, the customary villagers usually walk to the Kerobokan Beach. Now, they can take advantage of transportation means like car or motorcycle. “Though the development of time brings in a change, the meaning of this ritual has not changed,” he explained. (kmb38)

GOA - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi branded Pakistan a “mother-ship of terrorism” at a summit of the BRICS nations on Sunday, testing the cohesion of a group whose heavyweight member China is a close ally of its South Asian arch-rival. Modi’s remarks to a meeting of leaders from the BRICS which include Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa - escalated his diplomatic drive to isolate Pakistan, which India accuses of sponsoring cross-border terrorism. Tension between the nuclear-armed neighbours has escalated since a Sept. 18 attack on an army base in Kashmir, near the disputed frontier with Pakistan, killed 19 Indian soldiers in the worst such assault in 14 years. India later said it had carried out retaliatory “surgical strikes” across the de facto border that inflicted significant casualties. Pakistan denied any role in the attack on the Uri army base, and said the Indian operation had not even happened, dismissing it as typical cross-border firing. “In our own region, terrorism poses a grave threat to peace, security and development,” Modi said in his remarks to BRICS leaders who met at a resort hotel in the western state of Goa. “Tragically, the mother-ship of terrorism is a country in India’s neighbourhood,” the 66-year-old prime minister said, without directly naming Pakistan, in a series of tweets issued by the foreign ministry. Export of bamboo handicraft slumps
BANGLI - Export of the bamboo handicrafts these days is quite sluggish. It happens due to weakening consumer’s purchasing power overseas. These conditions cause the artisans to get frustrated. So far, marketing of their products is only oriented in the local market. One of the crafters at Tanggahan Peken hamlet, Sulahan, Susut, Wayan Suardana, stated that sluggish condition of the export market has been underway since last year. They do not get many orders of the products as ever before. “Since a year ago, there has been no order from the overseas market. Previously, we have got the orders from France,” he said, not long ago. Sluggish export market causes them to just focus on the sales in the local market. This condition was also confirmed by craftsman Nyoman Purna. Condition of the export market has made a number of artisans in the region to only pursue the production of local handicrafts, such as bamboo baskets. “Sorry, I do not know what causes the sluggish export. Perhaps, it happens due to declining purchasing power,” he said. The Head of the Bangli Commerce and Industry Agency, I Nengah Sudibia, justified the conditions experienced by craftsmen. He affirmed that sluggish condition of the export market does not only occur in Bangli, but almost throughout Indonesia. “Indeed, it is the real condition,” he said. To prevent crafters from leaving the industrial sector, this official from Penglipuran village admitted to persistently provide guidance for craftsman. Handicraft products having become the target of foreign consumers are asked to be still maintained. “In order to be able to attract the export market, we suggest crafters to also make attractive design,” he concluded. Global poultry producers hoping to cash in on South Korea’s craze for fried chicken and beer face a market crowded with local birds that have clipped prices and profits for Korean growers. The popularity of the combination, known as “chimaek”, has boomed in recent years, fuelled by its appearance in a hit South Korean television drama and an explosion of restaurant chains. Chimaek stores now dot Korea and their ubiquitous delivery services shuttle freshly fried chicken and beer to homes, offices and
picnics. At a Seoul outlet of the popular BBQ chain recently, Kim Chang hoo said he and his colleagues had planned to go to a sushi restaurant for a company dinner, but decided instead on chimaek - a mashup of chicken and maekju, the Korean word for beer. “I cannot help think of chicken, even when I’m eating sushi,” Kim, 24, said. “I don’t know if it’s just me, but chicken always comes to my mind and is always delicious.” The craze has pitted domestic chicken producers in an increasingly tough battle for market share, prompting an over-supply and a
drop in farm prices. Now imports are set to rise as South Korea lifts bans on overseas suppliers who are attracted by still low per capita consumption rates. South Koreans ate 14.2 kg (31 pounds) of poultry meat each in 2015, a near three-fold increase since 1990 according to OECD data, but only half the global average of 28.6 kg per person. South Korea’s market for chicken is expected to grow 5 percent to 1.01 million tonnes this year and a further 3 percent in 2017, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), boosted by the chimaek craze.

Supply is currently dominated by the country’s three biggest producers - Harim Co Ltd, Dongwoo Co Ltd and Maniker Co Ltd. All have seen their earnings hit in the first half of this year as they ramp up production to secure market share. Park Ju-No, the managing director at Harim, acknowledged producers were engaged in a “game of chicken”, each holding a potentially dangerous course in the hope their rivals flinch first. “We think it’s more crucial to focus on quality differentiation to survive instead of adjusting pro-
duction, even though it contributes to a glut,” said Park. Park expects the imbalance to ease in the second half as the number of slaughtered chickens drops in summer, but sees the market over-supplied again next year as imports from the United States and Thailand resume. In July, Asia’s fourth-largest economy lifted ban on chicken imports from the United States, imposed due to a bird flu outbreak in 2015. It is likely to resume imports in November from Thailand, banned since a 2004 bird flu outbreak, according to Korea’s Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency. (rtr)
Legionnaires’ disease infects Australian citizens in Bali
DENPASAR - The Head of the Bali Health Agency, Ketut Suarjaya, said that his agency found the presence of Legionnaires’ disease that affected Australian citizens in Bali. “Surprisingly it only occurred in Bali and is not found outside Bali. Incidentally I have the data about the cases at the office, where the infected patients are entirely Australian citizens,” he said, Friday (Oct. 14). Australia citizens making a visit to Bali and returning to their home country showed the symptoms such as cough, runny nose and shortness of breath. Having been examined, the lungs were infected by Legionella pneumonia bacteria. His agency has checked hotel staff and indeed there was positive but did not show any symptoms. “There are also Balinese people working at hotel infected by the disease, but do not indicate the symptoms,” he added. It is said the bacteria are found in the air conditioning (AC), water of swimming pool and cooling tower of hotels at specific temperatures. Glass puppet painting of Nagasepaha
Survives amid difficulty of market access
NAGASEPAHA village in Buleleng subdistrict is known as producer of glass puppet painting. Although the origin is unknown, the current generation of this village remains to preserve the art of painting on glass surface. Glass puppet painters of this village get difficulty in marketing their products. This condition makes the painters just rely on direct requests when there are travelers making a visit to their village. The emergence of glass puppet painting at the village was pioneered by one of the community leaders named Jro Dalang Diah. At first, Jro Dalang Diah carved leather puppets and a number of tools to support the cremation ceremony. At that time, shadow puppet works of Jro Dalang Diah was requested by foreign tourist. After getting the opportunity, Jro Dalang Diah tried to paint puppet characters on glass medium. Since then, this painting technique was taught to his son and immediate family. Today, this glass puppet painting grows and becomes a major profession of some Nagasepaha residents. One of the sons of Jro Dalang Diah, Ketut Sekar, recently told that glass puppet painting is much different from painting on canvas media having been prevalent. Moreover, this glass puppet painter requires high skill and the ability to imagine and understand the story of the puppet becoming the source of inspiration before painting. Residents from outside the village are ascertained to be unable to master the technique of glass puppet painting quickly, but in contrast to what is experienced by
residents denoting the descendant of the glass puppet painter. By learning and practice (self-taught—Ed), they are able to paint glass puppets well. It is inseparable from their belief that painting puppet on glass has something to do with the taksu or divine vibration. To make a piece of glass puppet painting measuring 40 cm times 60 cm will take five days. “When taught by the late father, I was immediately told to paint. In terms of technique, it is clearly not the same as the painting media widely used today. Due to such a lesson, I can still paint on glass medium,” he said. According to Sekar, in line with the development and demand, the glass puppet painting is no longer portraying the characters and puppet story, but has developed into another design such as in the form of barong or other painting styles. During the passage of glass puppet painting, Sekar and other painters admitted to find difficulty in marketing their works. All this time, consumers of the glass puppet painting are only foreign travelers happened to make a visit to Buleleng and mostly requested by the
art shops located outside the region. Many of his works have been collected by travelers from Germany, Australia, Italy and other countries. On this condition, he hoped the government or any other related agencies could help painters like him in expanding the market access. With a maximum market access, the demand will automatically increase and the artists will get many more orders. “Currently, if there are guests they can sell. If the government can help in the matter of marketing, I have confidence that glass puppet painting in this region will be able to provide income to improve people’s livelihoods,” he said. In the meantime, headman of Nagasepaha, Wayan Sumeken, said that glass puppet painting is the pride and the icon of his village. Market access has been emerging for a long time and cannot be resolved properly. To overcome difficulties experienced by the glass puppet painters, the village government empowers the painters by preparing Nagasepaha into the center for glass puppet painting craft. This measure will be followed by promotional efforts through mass media and in cooperation with local government. “When having been made into craft center plus promotions, more outsiders will come to make a visit. Thus, it will resolve the problems all this time faced by glass puppet painters in our region,” he concluded. (mud)

This former regent of Gianyar also mentioned this condition as a red light to Bali’s economy, so that it is necessary to apply a moratorium for the growth of accommodation in southern Bali. “All this time, the moratorium is only a discourse. In reality, the number of hotels owned by outside investors continues to grow. SOME economic sectors in Indonesia face instability. One of the triggers is depreciation of the rupiah against the US dollar. The sector whose performance is also affected by the growth of this condition is the property because of the price of building materials such as iron constructions is mostly still imported. A member of the professional certification agency (SLP) of the REI, Made Ariyana, said on Saturday (Oct. 15) that bigotry against the property as an investment instrument has made the business grow in accordance with economic conditions. If the economy is good, the growth will be significant, and vice versa. “Economic crisis has clearly made the purchasing power drop or consumers restrain to purchase property or they just wait and see. Currently, it very much depends on the developers how they package their products. If the purchasing power slumps, it can be tricked by minimizing the house size or plot or giving rewards and so on,” affirmed Ariyana. This Director of Ariyana Property revealed that declining price of property product mostly happens due to mismanagement of the developer itself. The property business is capital intensive and needs a long breath. So, if the developers have larger burden of loan than their own capital will result in a problem when a crisis occurs. On that account, the project needs to be sold at the basic cost of production or taken over by other parties. “Currently it is in the bottom price, so that it is time to make a purchase. This phenomenon is an anomaly in the property business because wherever there is no economic sector being capable of continuously growing for a decade, there is always a natural process making the business grow. Indeed, there are times of momentary pause or weakening. It is meant to look for reasonable price to grow again,” he said. Ariyana added that the moment for property to grow again is very clear. It is indicated by the government support such as in the form of tax amnesties and improvement in licensing services, so that national property entrepreneurs have started launching
their new projects. Gede Semadi Putra, an administrator of the REI Bali, admitted that earlier this year the economic condition was rather sluggish. However after the tax amnesty, the property business begins to recover, especially for the price of home under IDR 600 million. “The home demand of such price remains high. However, the buyers indeed having the willingness to purchase properties are sometimes hampered by banking regulations,” he affirmed. Not a few potential buyers want to take advantage of the mortgage to pay for the home but they are finally rejected by bank providing the mortgage because their income does not meet credit analysis requirements. Bank requires that revenue of potential consumers should be reflected in the bank mutation. So, revenue in cash is rather difficult to be considered by banks. Besides, some prospective customers also often ignore their credit card bill leading to a poor collectability. “As a result, the bank with strict requirements of the financial services authority (OJK) refused to provide mortgages when considering the track record of prospective consumers. Moreover, currently it is widely offer the loans without collateral. If the prospective customers of our home are consumptive, it would jeopardize their own track record. It happens
because the loan is not for productive purposes,” said this Director of PT SKI Land. Besides, the income tax of 2.5 percent was issued last month. Actually it alleviates the property transaction activity, but the application process takes long time to obtain validation from the KPP. “This condition is also complained by all fellow developers, REI Bali in particular. As a result, the process will get delayed for so long while waiting for validation from the tax office,” affirmed this property businessman from Karangasem. On that account, the problem does not lie in sale, but in the so tight mortgage and too long process of sale and purchase deed. Finally, the developers experience cash flow difficulties due to slow disbursement of the loan agreement. According to him, the government must loosen the regulations to move the economy as a whole. When the property sector moves, hundreds of supporting activities of the developer will also surely evolve. Currently, the development of property sales occurs to the subsidized home worth IDR 133.5 million in the area of Buleleng, Negara and Karangasem. REI itself targeted to develop 3,000 homes in Bali this year. However, the requirements to have a subsidized home are not easy, either. “We build subsidized homes to secure the cash flow of the company. Considering the price, it is very difficult to achieve because the price of land in Bali has been so high alleviated with rampant extortion. Hopefully, the operation against such extortion by Mr. President will make the fee become more reasonable,” he hoped. (rah)

It is the policy of local government resulting in the economic weakening of Bali,” said Chairman of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati. He described that this condition occurs as a result of the government allowing foreign investors with large capital to operate in Bali. In the meantime, only a few local entrepreneurs get the chance. As a result, the capital deposited in Bali is only on the salaries of employees and small amount of capital belongs to a few local entrepreneurs.

HONG KONG - British actor Benedict Cumberbatch said at the world premiere of his new film “Doctor Strange” he relished playing his first role as a superhero. Amid fireworks and screaming fans at the red carpet premiere in Hong Kong on Thursday night, Cumberbatch said the film based on a popular American comic was a classic Marvel offering. “It sort of fulfilled everything that you could have imagined from

The Spaniard, who suffered a terrifying crash in practice on Saturday but returned to the track to qualify third on the grid, battled to keep within touch of Marquez.
But Lorenzo came under pressure from a hard-charging Dovizioso and his race ended in the gravel with five laps to go after a front end skid.
