Jaycee Chan, 32, said at a news conference that he was rededicating himself to his family and entertainment business career. He said he had “no reason, no excuse” for the behavior that led to his arrest in August alongside Taiwanese actor Ko Kai and others. “After this correction by the justice system, I have changed my outlook on life and my values,” Chan said. Police anticipating the worst Denpasar (Bali Post)—

On Friday (Feb 13), Bali Police officials held a meeting to coordinate the security for the escorting of Bali Nine members, Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan from Kerobokan Prison to Nusa Kambangan. They plan to intensify security at Kerobokan Prison in anticipation of any solidarity reactions from the friends of the inmates on death row. “We have only been asked to help with the security and escorting. However the exact date of the move is not known. We have prepared everything including the deployment of additional personnel and the route to be used” said Spokesperson for the Bali Police, Hery Wiyanto.

Wiyanto confirmed that both of the Australian inmates would be moved to Nusa Kambangan where they would be executed. However, the Bali Police do not know when this action would be carried out nor which exact flights would be taken to get to the island. “The execution is the responsibility of the prosecutor’s

office which has authority over this action. Our task is only to provide security and escort the prisoners” he said. According to spokesperson Wiyanto, there would be more than 100 personnel deployed for the move, including fully armed security and escorts from the Mobile Brigade troops and Public Services, as well as personnel from the Directorate of Traffic Affairs during the escort duty. Mangrove forest annexed to build a house

Tahura reports it to Bali Police Denpasar

Last Thursday (Feb 12), Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura) authorities, reported a case of land annexation that took place in the mangrove forest of Kedonganan, Kuta, Badung. The 60 year-old culprit, with the initials R.T, was reported as having cleared 250 square feet of the mangrove area and built a house there.

“The report has been registered and is being dealt with by the Directorate of Special Crime Investigation of the Bali Police as it occurred within the Grand Forest Park” said Hery Wiyanto, Spokesperson for Bali Police on Friday (Feb 13). According to standard procedures, the Bali Police will be conducting an investigation, collect evidence and examine witnesses. The report, said Hery, would definitely be followed up on according to prevailing rules. “Since the case was only just reported, there are many processes that need to take place” he said. According to information obtained by the Bali Police, the

Directorate of Special Crime Investigation team handling the case, first came down to the location of the alleged land annexation last Saturday in order to determine the exact location of the reported crime. “The defendant (RT—Ed) has lived at the location for about a year. To that end, his party asked for help from Karangasem government to arrange the condition of the pond previously becoming the supporting beauty of the tourist attraction. The arrangement was needed so that the waste water around Candidasa would not get into the pond. He admitted the tourist visit to Candidasa continued to decline because there were no interesting objects for visitors in the famous tourist resort in the 1970s. The disappearance of white sandy beach owned by Candidasa also had a great impact as seen from

the decline in the number of tourist visits. On the other hand, the other supporting objects like the Candidasa Temple becoming the forerunner of the name of the region could no longer increase the number of tourist visits. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Investors that want to invest in Bali do not need to build infrastructure such as hotels or villas. What are needed are efforts made to preserve culture and existing village facilities. “If the government can direct investors, tourism development in Bali can be enjoyed by all of society. For instance, a well packed tourism village can attract visitors who want to stay in local people’s homes rather than hotels” said Mangku Kandia in Denpasar, Friday (Feb 13). According to him, the concept of bringing investors to villages is a necessary government program. So far, it has been limited to mere discourse with no concrete realization. Garbage, a big challenge for proposed Denpasar city tour Denpasar —

The municipality of Denpasar, will launch a city tour package in the near future. A number of challenges will be faced in the implementation of the program. One challenge is the ongoing problem related to garbage. Denpasar in general and certainly the locations and passages to the locations of the city tour, should be free of garbage so as not to tarnish the image of the City of Denpasar. The Head of Denpasar Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (DKP), Ketut Wisada, said on Friday (Feb 13) that the rubbish problem was of special concern for government, especially as it relates to the implementation of the city tour. The DKP has therefore prepared special sanitation personnel to clean up the tourist attractions that will serve as destination on the city tour. The DKP officers will not, however handle all of the tour destinations, because as Wisada argues, a number of them already have there own sanitation officers. “We are gathering personnel to deal with sanitation around the Bali Museum, for example, so that we can assign janitors at Puputan Square to clean up the area in front of the museum. However, for other locations such as Jro Kuta Palace, for instance, because it belongs to the realm of the

royal palace, we will leave it up to them to deal with. Likewise, Badung Market has their PD Pasar sanitation officers to deal with garbage there. We will however keep a close eye on conditions” he said. Wisada went on to say he and his staff would go all out to support the Denpasar City Tour. He specified that attention would not only be given to specific locations along the tour route, but that they would also strive to render the entire city of Denpasar, free of litter. Many things need to be addressed to help make this happen. Currently, waste production in the city of Denpasar is 2,700 cubic meters a day. DKP Denpasar cannot handle the huge amount of garbage alone partly because they lack human resources. DKP Denpasar employs 1,450 janitors consisting of sweepers, transport staff, gardeners, landfill as-

sistants and mechanics. A total of 55 units of garbage trucks are available to transport the rubbish. Such facilities and personnel are however inadequate. At least 120 trucks, working in shifts, are required to transport all the rubbish. As for manpower, Wisada admitted that it was very difficult to find people who want to get involved in working with garbage. As for waste management, DKP Denpasar is assisted by independent rubbish processing groups at the village level. Currently there are only 25 such groups, but they are frequently overwhelmed by the large amount of garbage that needs processing. “On that account, we propose the use of heavy equipment as a solution, so that the garbage depots will no longer need to employ as many humans. Waste containers could be increased so that the public can directly deposit their garbage there. The placement of these public trash cans is important, as is education about using them. Presently, there are 120 garbage cans around Denpasar. We plan to increase this by 20 to 30 cans per year, but will only be adding 10 this year” said Wisada. (kmb25)

Sanglah Hospital needs additional cardiac catheterization (cath) lab for the need of health care, especially in the surgical field. It was conveyed by Dr. Ketut Putu Yasa, a specialist of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at Sanglah Hospital, Saturday (Feb 14). Currently Sanglah Hospital had two cath labs but only one unit was said to be usable, while another was out of order. Meanwhile, the cath lab was required by some medical departments such as the department, interventional radiology, thoracic endovascular, neurology and child cardiology department. “So, there are six medical departments requiring this device,” he said. Thus, to meet the need, one unit only is not enough. “Maybe it will need two or three,” he added. Similarly, many patients also needed it. By and large, few patients would come when the facilities were available considering the cath lab could help detect disease. He also delivered that the cath lab could be used by an average of 400 patients per year. “Generally, the cardiology department requires this device,” he concluded. In addition, the population of people with diabetes also increased, so that the need for cath lab by people with vascular disease also increased. Endovascular surgery was a corrective action of blood vessels without open surgery. “It is without using a knife or a little use of it or better known as minimal invasive,” he explained. Responding to the proposal of Dr. Ketut Putu Yasa, Directress of the Sanglah Hospital, A.A. AirAsia was forced to cancel its flight to Singapore from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, because the aircraft was alleged to have crashed a bird. The aircraft with flight number QZ 506 experienced cancellation of departure and returned to the apron, Friday (Feb 13). The flight cancellation was decided by the pilot of AirAsia after previously reported to the officer of the air traffic control. Due to the incident, pilot asked to go back to the apron for further inspection process. General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Herry AY Sikado, when asked for his confirmation justified the incident. It happened at 1:24 p.m. when the aircraft was prepared to take off. “Indeed it is true that a flight of AirAsia today should return to the apron due to bird strike. However, the pilot immediately decided to cancel the flight,” he explained. According to him, the aircraft was pulled back to the apron at 1:36 p.m. and all passengers, amounting to 96 people, had been flown to Singapore by other aircraft at four o’clock that afternoon. As had been known, the condition of the grassy runway side was also used as one of the bird foraging areas, especially in the current rainy season. To that end, the Angkasa Pura I had an intense coordination with the Airport Authority for Region IV and Airnav Indonesia in an effort to maintain safety at the Ngurah Rai Airport. “We at the Angkasa Pura I also have established a team to supervise the activity of birds in the area of the air side and installed a bird repellent tool,” he concluded. NEW DELHI — Sri Lanka’s new leader is underlining India’s importance as a regional ally by making it his first official foreign destination as president, following years of increasingly uneasy relations with New Delhi and amid international pressure to speed up post-civil war reconciliation efforts at home. President Maithripala Sirisena’s four-day visit, which begins with his arrival Sunday evening, has been welcomed by Indian officials, who were planning a ceremony and banquet for him Monday and top-tier meetings befitting the countries’ “unique” historical and cultural ties, Indian foreign ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said. Relations between India and Sri Lanka had become tense in recent years, as China grew cozier with the island nation, long considered by India as being within its traditional sphere of influence. Japan moving to end S.Korea currency swap pact Japan was moving to end a 14-year-old, $10billion currency swap accord with South Korea, as the neighbouring US allies fail to mend their soured bilateral ties, reports said Saturday. Tokyo was expected to announce the decision in the coming week with the current pact expiring on February 23, said major media, including the Nikkei, the Asahi Shimbun and Kyodo News. “Deterioration of the Japan-South Korea relationship is seen to have affected the decision,” the Asahi said. Under the contract, originally agreed in 2001, each country can obtain dollars by giving its own currency to the other at times of financial emergencies. The two sides routinely adjusted the size and details of the agreement, which expanded to as much as $70 billion in 2011, after a series of global crisis, including the collapse of investment bank Lehman Brothers and the eurozone debt crisis. The Nikkei newspaper added that the need for the accord has been reduced as South Korea’s foreign currency reserves have increased 18 times more than the level seen after the 1997 Asian currency crisis. In October last year, Japanese finance minister Taro Aso said the pact would not be renewed unless South Korea requested it. The Japan-South Korea relations have long been tense due to various disputes linked to Japan’s 1910-45 rule over the Korean peninsula. However, they were challenging. Granpa Sundari did not respond to them but taking incense stick and said prayers. A few minutes later, one of the men got pain and rolled over on the black sand. Being unacceptable to his advice, two other friends also experienced similar condition and they were rolling over as well. “Afterward, they were told to apologize at the temple. Thankfully, they could regain their consciousness,”

said Grandpa Sundari. Based on the narrative of local fishermen, the deity abiding at the Mas Sepuh Temple was Prince Mas Sepuh. His actual name was Raden Amangkuningrat, who was better known as the Kramat of Seseh Beach. He was the son of the first king of Mengwi (Hindu) and his Islamic mother came from Blambangan, East Java. During his childhood, he had separated from his father and was raised by his mother in Blambangan. When growing adult, he asked his mother about his father and asked permission to search for him. Prince Mas Sepuh went to Bali accompanied by some royal retainers and equipped with heirloom kris dagger from the Kingdom of Mengwi. After meeting with his father, a misunderstanding occurred as it was for the first time for them both to meet. Then, he went home to Blambangan to tell his mother about the incident. When arriving

on Seseh Beach, Prince Mas Sepuh was attacked by a group of unidentified armed men so the battle was avoided. Seeing the battle claimed a few casualties from both sides, the kris dagger owned by Prince Mas Sepuh was taken out and stretched upward and it immediately gleamed and a miracle occurred. The armed groups attacking him suddenly paralyzed and kneed silently. Ultimately, it was known if the attackers still had a familial relationship to him seen from their clothing and the visionary ability of Prince Mas Sepuh. Then, the kris dagger was put back into sheath and the attackers could move again and then paid homage to Prince Mas Sepuh. Not long after the incident, Prince Mas Sepuh died and was buried on the spot. Until now, his grave is well maintained and always paid homage by Muslims from various parts of the archipelago. (kmb)

‘Killing of Kumbhakarna,’ Icon of Pejeng Village To revive the cultural heritage at Pejeng village, the Gianyar government in cooperation with the Soma Negara Grand Palace at Pejeng held an art show. It was organized at the palace by featuring classical art in the form of psalmody, shadow puppet, human puppet and Kecak Dance entitled ‘The Killing of Kumbhakarna.’ Headman of Pejeng, Cokorda Rai Widiarsa Pemayun, delivered that utilization of the Soma Negara Grand Palace as a vehicle of staging was very important. It was meant to maintain and preserve the history of culture. In addition to royal palace, the Pejeng village environment also played a role in the success of the event. On that account, the arrangement began to be made from the environment surrounding the palace including the Pejeng village. The performing art entitled ‘The Killing of Kumbhakarna’ also received positive feedback from the royal family. One of them was Cokorda Raka. His party was very glad to participate in preserving the culture. “Our palace is composed of three parts, namely the outermost, middle and innermost courtyard and it is open to the public except for the sacred area,” he explained. Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Yoke Darmawan, explained the performance was one of the arts that would be raised by Pejeng village. Concept of the story and ideas were compiled by Prof. Dr I Wayan Dibia along with I Made Sidia served as the Art Director and Arranger. The first performance took place successfully on October 8. As planned, this event would be held every full moon as the icon of Pejeng village.

Kumbhakarna is a powerful and brave giant of Lanka. He has an elder brother named king Ravana. However, the brother Ravana committed evil deeds by abducting Sita, the wife of Sri Rama. This incident caused Sri Rama and his monkey army to attack Lanka in the battlefield. It is the part of the Ramayana epic. One by one of the Lanka troops were killed. King Ravana was angry and expressed his anger to Kumbhakarna. Obviously, in the midst of the precarious situation of war Kumbakarna chose to sleep and laze. Ravana accused Kumbhakarna of a lazy, coward and stupid giant and did not care about the safety of Lanka. The accusation of ??Ravana made Kumbhakarna angry and conversely pointed out that Ravana was the source of destruction to Lanka. Ravana then urged Kumbhakarna to get involved in the battlefield. Although he initially refused, but to save Lanka, he finally agreed to do so. Accompanied by thousands of giants, Kumbhakarna fought against the forces of Sri Rama who was also accompanied by magical friends named Hanuman and Sugriva. Originally, a bitter struggled occurred between Kumbhakarna and Hanuman and Sugriva. To stop a devastating rampage of Kumbhakarna, Sri Rama and Lakshamana took out the arrow bestowed by Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma and Lord Indra. One by one the leg and the hand of Kumbhakarna came off of his body. Kumbhakarna was ultimately killed by Sri Rama, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. (ocha)

COPENHAGEN — Danish police shot and killed a man early Sunday who likely carried out shooting attacks at a free speech event and a synagogue in Copenhagen that left two people dead. Investigator Joergen Skov told reporters that “nothing at this point suggests there were other perpetrators” in the shootings that also left five police officers wounded. The dramatic events that unfolded in Copenhagen stirred fears that another terror spree was underway in a European capital a month after 17 people were killed in Paris attacks. Skov said the gunman was killed in a firefight with police in the Noerrebro district of Copenhagen. No police were wounded in that shooting. The first shooting happened before 4 p.m. Saturday when police said a gunman used an automatic weapon to shoot through the windows of the Krudttoenden cultural center during a panel discussion on freedom of expression featuring a Swedish artist who had caricatured the Prophet Muhammad. The artist, Lars Vilks, was whisked away unharmed by his bodyguards but a 55-year-old man attending the event was killed, while three police officers were wounded, authorities said. Two belonged to the Danish security service PET, which said the circumstances surrounding the shooting “indicate that we are talking about a terror attack.” After midnight Sunday, a Jewish man was killed and two police officers were wounded in the second shooting outside the synagogue. Dan Rosenberg Asmussen, the head of Denmark’s Jewish community, told Danish public broadcaster DR that the victim was guarding the entrance of a building adjacent to the synagogue. Skov said the shooter was confronted by police as he returned to an address that they were keeping under surveillance. Investigators described him as 25 to 30 years old with an athletic build and carrying a black automatic weapon. They released a blurred photograph of the suspect wearing dark clothes and a scarf covering part of his face. Vilks, a 68-year-old artist who has faced numerous death threats for depicting Muhammad as a dog in 2007, told The Associated Press he believed he was the intended target of the first shooting, which happened at a panel discussion titled “Art, blasphemy and freedom of expression.”

Building collapses, killing 13 people in India LUCKNOW, India — A building that was under construction in a north Indian town collapsed overnight, killing 13 members of a family of weavers who were sleeping on the ground floor, police said Sunday. Three people escaped unhurt when the partially built first floor crashed down in the town of Mughalsarai, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) southeast of Uttar Pradesh’s state capital of Lucknow. “People were buried alive” when the building came down, police Superintendent Chandauli Muniraj

said. Two people were taken to a hospital, but one died, raising the death toll to 13. The victims included the building’s owner, Mohammad Kamarrudin, and members of his family, including two children under 8 years old, Muniraj said. Police were investigating what caused the collapse, and had no details about construction permits or practices. ROME - Michele Ferrero, the world’s richest candy maker whose Nutella chocolate and hazlenut spread helped raise generations of Europeans and defined Italian sweets, died on Valentine’s Day, the company said. He was 89. Ferrero, who had been ill for several months, died Saturday in Montecarlo where he lived, surrounded by his family, the company said in a statement. Ferrero was the patriarch of the eponymous family empire best known for its Nutella and Ferrero Rocher chocolates. The company’s products also included Tic Tacs and the Kinder line of products — including the eggs beloved by children for the treat inside. Ferrero’s father, Pietro, started making Nutella when cocoa was still rationed during World War II, Forbes noted in ranking Ferrero and his family 30th on the list of the world’s richest billionaires in 2014, worth $23.4 billion. The company was one of Italy’s most successful, a prime example of the “Made in Italy” brand of food and luxury goods that have defined the private sector in post-war Italy.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella praised Ferrero as one of the leaders of Italian industry, “always ahead of his time thanks to innovative products and his tenacious work and reserved character.” Pietro Ferrero opened his first chocolate laboratory in Alba, in Italy’s northwest Piemonte region, in 1942. The business passed to Michele upon Pietro’s death in 1949. Michele Ferrero developed Kinder chocolates in 1968, Tic Tacs a year later and Ferrero Rocher in 1982, according to a biography provided by the company. Eventually, Ferrero intruced the Ferrero Rocher chocolates in Europe and by 1985 began selling them in the United States, according to the company’s website. By 1997, Michele Ferrero handed over the running of the company to his two sons, Pietro and Giovanni. Pietro Ferrero died in 2011 of a cardiac arrest, leaving Giovanni the sole CEO. Survivors include Ferrero’s wife, Maria Franca, and Giovanni. A wake was scheduled in the Alba factory and the funeral was scheduled for the cathedral in Alba, the company said. (ap)

INDONESIA Australia PM warns Indonesia of tough response to executions

SYDNEY - Millions of Australians are “sickened” by the imminent execution of two of its citizens by Indonesia, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Sunday, warning of a tough diplomatic response. No date has been set for the killing of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, but Indonesia has said governments with citizens on death row have been invited to talks at the foreign ministry on Monday. Chan, 31, and Sukumaran, 33, are facing execution by firing squad as early as this week as ring leaders of the so-called Bali Nine group trafficking heroin from Indonesia’s island of Bali into Australia. While all hope appears to be lost, Abbott put pressure on Jakarta for the second day in a row. “Millions of Australians are feeling sickened by what might be about to happen in Indonesia,” he told Channel Ten. “If these executions go ahead, and I hope they don’t, we will certainly be finding ways to make out displeasure felt.” Brazil and The Netherlands recalled their ambassadors in protest at executions of their citizens in January. The Somali people entered Indonesia using wooden boats from Malaysia.

“They arrived in Medan through Tanjung Balai Port. They planned to continue their trip to Jakarta and Australia where they will ask for political asylum,” he said. He said that besides Somalians, there are also illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka (85), Myanmar (23) and other foreigners. “There are 395 foreigners being detained at the immigration detention center.
