NEW YORK — The watching world was horrified when, on Jan. 28, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger exploded over Cape Canaveral, Fla., just seconds after liftoff. Seven crew members, including beloved Teacher-In-Space Christa McAuliffe, lost their lives and the manned space program was dealt a nearly mortal blow. Five months later, the reason — two of the shuttle’s O-rings had failed during launch — was made public, a major finding of the presidential commission formed to solve the mystery. A vocal member of that commission was Richard Feynman, a world-renowned physicist and Nobel laureate whose sharp mind and dogged spirit led him to the design flaw, in the process exposing negligence and cover-ups by both NASA and the contractor supplying it the O-rings. A new film, “The Challenger Disaster,” stars William Hurt as Feynman (with costars including Brian Dennehy and Bruce Greenwood). Airing Saturday at 9 p.m. EST on Science Channel and Discovery Channel, it depicts his unswervable search for the truth, even in the face of resistance from his colleagues. “In a way, Feynman interested me more than the project did,” says Hurt. “This is mostly an event story, but I thought we could allow character to exist within the narrative and lead to a greater conclusion: Human courage is really what it’s all about,
and listening to your own instinctive, loving skeptic. That’s what Feynman did.” It’s a nippy fall day and Hurt is discussing the film, and many other things, with a reporter as he walks his dog, Lucy, in Manhattan’s Riverside Park. The 63-year-old Hurt, a TV, stage and Oscar-winning film star (for “Kiss of the Spider Woman”), has been taking an acting break this fall to play a different role, that of student, as this former Tufts theology major plunges, with undisguised humility, into a pair of courses at Columbia University: computer science and Indo-Tibetan Hinduism. “I’m working pretty hard,” he says with clear understatement as he unsnaps the leash worn by Lucy, a gentle Doberman pinscherLabrador mix, who is nibbling some grass and contemplating the joggers. “Your mind, your heart must learn to value yourself,” Hurt says, pivoting back to what Feynman taught him. “That’s where your answers will come from: Learn to bear your frustrations gladly, ‘cause they’re your teacher. YOU are your teacher.”

NEW YORK — Don Cheadle will play Miles Davis in a biopic the actor has long planned on the innovative jazz pioneer. BiFrost Pictures told The Associated Press on Wednesday that it will finance and produce “Kill the Trumpet Player,” with Cheadle also making his directorial debut. Cheadle has been trying to make the film for years, but production is finally set to begin in June. The production company said the movie won’t be a traditional biopic, but will focus on when Davis temporarily retired from making music and then re-emerged in 1979. The script is written by Cheadle and Steven Baigelman. Ewan McGregor will co-star as a Rolling Stone reporter, and Zoe Saldana will play Frances Davis, the trumpet player’s former wife. The film is being made with the collaboration of Davis’ family. Davis collaborator Herbie Hancock will also be involved in the production. Davis died in 1991 at age 65.

TABANAN - Another beauty of nature owned by Tabanan is internationally recognized. After Jatiluwih, the Lake Beratan, Baturiti, was included into one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. This boasting predicate was released by an American medium, Huffington Post, last week. The beauty of Lake Beratan was mentioned slightly different from Lake Xi Hu or West Lake in China and Lake Kawaguchi in Japan. Operations Manager of Ulun Danu Beratan tourist attraction, Wayan Mustika, confirmed the award on Wednesday (Nov 13). He claimed to have been visited by foreign media for several times, including the one from the America. “I’ve got information if Lake Beratan was included in the most beautiful lakes in the world. It’s really encouraging,” he said. He added that when foreign tour-
ists made a visit, they did not only observe the beauty of the lake and Ulun Danu Temple. However, they also paid attention to management system and lake sanitation. This man hoped the award could boost the number of foreign tourists to visit the Ulun Danu Beratan. Moreover, his party had beautified many garden areas and other facilities. Of that numbers, one of which was the Lake Beratan, Tabanan, Bali. The beauty of the lake in northern Tabanan appeared with a view of the Ulun Danu Temple in the middle of the lake. Then, the silhouette of the temple bounced off to the surface of the lake. The panorama was referred to as nature’s special gift. School building damaged, budget allocated worth IDR 20 billion Denpasar (Bali Post)—
In fiscal year 2014, the Denpasar Education Agency drafted the arrangement and refurbishment to 20 units of damaged buildings from elementary to high school. To realize the plan, the Education Agency proposed a budget of IDR 20 billion. The Head of Denpasar Education Agency IGN Eddy Mulya revealed the matter, Wednesday (Nov 13). According to Eddy Mulya, the refurbishment process would target the existing infrastructure such as constructing multilevel floor (second floor), courtyard arrangement, library and other infrastructure arrangement. He said the amount of budget disbursed for each school would depend on the level of damage and the arrangement to be made. “Budget allocation is still in the drafting stage in the main regional budget 2014. I do hope this plan can be approved by the House. Hopefully, there is a common understanding with the House,” he said. He added the number of schools to be refurbished and the amount of budget allocated was still waiting for a more detailed discussion. Obviously, before approved there would be a hearing with the House. “Now, it is still in the drafting process by our party. If the budget is adequate, the number of building units to be refurbished will be added,” he said. Related to school merger in anticipation against the schools with overloaded number of students, so far his party had no such a plan. Merger model was combining a number of schools where one of them was considered to have received inadequate number of student. “During my office, none has been made but in the past it was made to a lot of schools. For this year, there is no such a plan. From 2012 to 2014, there are no plans for a merger,” he said while adding that before 2012 there were a number of schools merged with the ones getting fewer students and located close to each other. Indonesia strengthens ASEAN intergovernmental relations
Indonesia continues to strengthen the relations among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries. He explained that direction of the meeting was how the countries belonging to the ASEAN dialogue partners could further enhance their role in helping implement the proj-

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

At her fitting for her Psychedelic Angel costume, with handpainted thigh-high boots and maybe the biggest wings of the show, Kloss said that while the garments are skimpy, they take months to make. Candice Swanepoel got the glory of the opening look, wearing a $10 million bra decorated with diamonds, rubies and sapphires that was cleverly dubbed the “Crown Jewels.” She was quickly followed by Cara Delevingne as an English footballer and Lily Aldridge, who often gets the good-girl outfits, as a punk in a

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch claims to have made what just might be the world’s most desirable pair of jeans: whipped up from a high-tech denim that combats cellulite so its wearers can hone their beach bodies even as they bundle up for Brazil’s gentle winters. Herchcovitch’s so-called “beauty denim,” which he says harnesses body heat and turns it into infrared rays that stimulate cellulite-combatting micro-circulation, made its debut at the designer’s winter 2014 show at Fashion Rio, Rio de Janeiro’s four-day fashion extravaganza, which wrapped up on Saturday. The jury is still out on the veracity of the Sao Paulo designer’s claim to have produced the world’s first anti-cellulite denim. Herchcovitch says five years of research into the product shows it is effective, but medical experts have cautioned there is no miracle cure for cellulite. All that aside, the models donning the denim looked like they had precious little need of micro-circulation as they stomped the catwalk. In skinny jeans and cat suits made from a patchwork of indigo and grey denim with a metallic
sheen, the models looked like tough, street-wise urban incarnations of medieval knights in suits of armor. The skinny jean cum pleated skirt combos looked like what a 21st century Joan of Arc would wear, while the high-impact eyewear — oversized sunglasses in the shape of ski masks — conjured an urban knight’s protective visor. Brazil’s reigning queen of leather, Patricia Viera, looked to the 1970s for a collection of maxi-dresses and flares in supple, jewel-tone leather laser cut so intricately the clothes almost appeared to be made from lace. The collection also included plenty of the kinds of hand-painted pieces that have become her hallmark, including bellbottoms and skirts that bloomed with a multicolored riot of wildflowers. The highlights of the strong collection were the suede mini-dresses and fringed jackets emblazoned with oversized Hopi Indian Kachina dolls.
The Head of Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali, Gede Suarsa, said the highest star-rated hotel occupancy rate occurred at five-star hotel reaching 55.26 percent. It was mentioned the countries experiencing the largest increase in the number of foreign tourist arrival in the period of January-September 2013 compared to the previous year was Taiwan at 25.78 percent. Land dredging activities are not only rife in Kintamani region, but have also penetrated the area of Bangli town. One of them is the one found in the neighborhood of Bangli Hill. The hill located at Cempaga village has been dredged since the past few months using heavy equipment. Secretly, the dredging activities kindled complaints of local residents because it was considered to threaten their safety. One of the residents, Sutresna, assessed the activities of land dredging in the region were quite hazardous as on the excavation site also stood a highvoltage power pole. It was feared if the electric pole collapsed it could be very harmful to the surrounding residents. In addition, the power supplies to the surrounding residents would also automatically be disrupted. So, it was not easy for an agency to issue a permit of excavation. On that account, he expected the government could immediately check the current conditions. According to information, the location was private property. There was still reluctance to discipline the activities because the dredging location was owned by a well-respected community leader. Despite the excavation of backfill had gone on long enough, the activities were never touched by the officers so far. NIAMEY - Nigeria’s army offensive against Islamist militants has pushed nearly 40,000 refugees over its northern border into Niger, a U.N. agency said, in a drive that is straining food supplies in the drought-prone country. The United Nations estimated in June there were 6,000 refugees from Nigeria but the figure has soared as President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped up attacks on Boko Haram militants. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its latest monthly report that of a total 37,332 refugees, nearly 29,000 are officially Niger nationals and the rest are Nigerian. “These figures, three times above the level the humanitarian workers were planning for, give an indication of the difficulties of developing a humanitarian response,” it said. Boko Haram is seen as the biggest risk to stability in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country and top oil producer, which shares a 1,500 kilometre border with its landlocked northern neighbour Niger along the edge of the Sahara Desert. The United States formally designated Boko Haram and splinter group Ansaru as terrorist organisations on Wednesday. OCHA said the refugees in Niger were spread over 20 different areas in the semi-desert southern province of Diffa and that they were living mostly with local hosts. A spokesman for the government in Niger declined to comment. A Nigerian defence spokesman said he had no information about refugees crossing the border. Nigerian emergency service officials were not available for comment. The rising number of refugees in Niger is expected to put further strain on food supplies after a disappointing harvest. According to an October report by FEWS NET, a USAID-funded famine network, 1.2 million people in Niger will be in a situation of acute food insecurity from January 2014. Thousands of refugees have also spilled into Cameroon, prompting Nigeria to reach out for help in policing their shared border. The United Nations has called on neighbouring countries to keep their borders open and has urged Niger to grant refugee status to the Nigerian nationals in the Diffa region.

Philippine soldiers on trucks distributed rice and water as chainsaw-wielding teams cut debris from blocked roads. Thousands more swarmed the city’s damaged airport, desperate to leave or to get treatment at a makeshift medical center. The USS George Washington aircraft carrier arrived in the Philippine Sea near the Gulf of Leyte Thursday, and will set up a position off the coast of Samar Island to assess the damage and provide medical and water supplies, the 7th Fleet said in a statement.
The carrier and its strike group together bring 21 helicopters to the area, which can help reach the most inaccessible areas. Authorities say 2,357 people have been confirmed dead in the disaster, but that figure is expected to rise, perhaps significantly, when information is collected from other areas of the disaster zone. In the city’s first mass burial, 100 bodies in leaking black bags were lowered into graves without any prayers being said. John Cajipe, 31, and three teenage boys who work at the local cemetery placed the first body in the grave’s right hand corner. And so on, until scores of bodies — all un-
identifed — filled the grave. “I hope this is the last time I see something like this,” said Mayor Alfred Romualdez. “When I look at this it just reminds me of what has happened from the day the storm hit until today.” Officials said efforts had been made to identify the bodies so families have a chance of finding out what happened to their loved ones in the days and weeks to come. It was not immediately clear whether this included DNA testing. SINGAPORE - US auto giant General Motors (GM) said Wednesday it would move the headquarters of its international operations to Singapore from Shanghai, boosting the city-state’s status as a regional business hub. Detroit-based GM said in a statement that the relocation of its consolidated international operations would take place in the second quarter of next year. The new headquarters “will oversee key parts” of GM’s business in Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, India, South Korea and the Middle East as well as Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe, the statement added. There will be 120 employees in Singapore. GM will keep 250 employees in Shanghai and 245 in Seoul. GM said the move would allow it to focus on China, the world’s biggest vehicle market, while strengthening its presence in other countries in the region. The Singapore headquarters will “lead the company’s umbrella strategy for the region”, GM said. It said Singapore offers several advantages, including “greater proximity” to key international markets like Southeast Asia and India, the Middle East and Africa.
“We are heartened that GM has chosen to set up its international headquarters,” said Lim Kok Kiang, an assistant managing director at Singapore’s Economic Development Board. Kelly Teoh, market strategist at IG Markets in Singapore, said the move signalled a growing perception that the city-state was “trumping” Shanghai and Hong Kong as the preferred location for regional offices. “Singapore is now being seen not only as a purely Southeast Asian hub, but also an Asian hub with wide networks,” Teoh told AFP. Singapore’s clear regulatory framework and low corporate and personal income taxes also made it favourable for multinational corporations, she said. The decision “reflects Singapore’s strong competitive advantage as the Asia-Pacific’s leading headquartering hub for management functions”, said Rajiv Biswas, regional chief economist at global consultancy IHS. “However GM will remain
strongly committed to its production operations in China, which has become the world’s largest auto market since 2010,” he said. TOKYO - Japan said Thursday that growth halved in the July-September quarter as exports weakened and consumer spending slowed, but economists were divided over what it meant for Tokyo’s drive to fire up the economy. The once-anaemic economy has lately been outpacing growth in other G7 nations as a policy blitz led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe helped push down the yen, giving a boost to exporters and sparking a stock market rally. That has stoked optimism over Japan’s prospects, but official data Thursday showed the world’s third-largest economy expanded at annualised rate of 1.9 percent, a marked slowdown from the 3.8 percent rise in the previous three months. However, the figure is higher than the 1.7 percent increase forecast in a poll of economists by the Wall Street Journal and Tokyo’s Nikkei stock index was up 2.50 percent in the afternoon, helped by a weakening yen. On a quarter-on-quarter basis the economy grew 0.5 percent, slightly higher than expectations but well down from the 0.9 percent increase in the previous three months. The figures mean Japan’s headline-grabbing growth in the first half of the year has now fallen behind the US economy, which expanded 2.8 percent in the three months to September. Analysts have been warning that Tokyo’s bold pro-growth programme -- a mix of big government spending and central bank monetary easing -- is not enough on its own without promised economic reforms. The proposed shakeup, including loosening rigid labour laws and signing wide-ranging free trade deals, are seen as key to ushering in lasting change in an economy plagued by years of deflation. On Wednesday, Japanese legislators passed a bill that paves the way for an opening up of the electricity sector, but other key reforms have so far been mostly talk. That has raised the prospect of the Bank of Japan having to expand its already unprecedented monetary easing measures, launched in April, to give another jolt to the economy, analysts said. Critics of Abe’s policy -- dubbed “Abenomics” -- say growth so far is largely thanks to stimulus spending and the BoJ’s injections of vast amounts of money into the financial system, similar to the US Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing. Despite the downbeat data Thursday, Masahiko Hashimoto, economist at Daiwa Institute of Research, said it was too early to cast a verdict on Abenomics with consumer spending still “solid” and exports expected to turn up as key Asian demand bounces back. But Masamichi Adachi, senior economist at JPMorgan Securities, was less optimistic, saying much of growth so far was driven by public works spending. Japan has the heaviest debt burden among wealthy nations with a national debt standing at more than twice the size of the economy. Critics of the debt pile, including the International Monetary Fund, have been calling on Tokyo to gets the country’s fiscal house in order. underscored the need to provide security and medical services to and restore psychological condition of witnesses and victims of transnational crimes, he said. Pakelem ritual is classified into Bhuta Yajna. Pakelem means sinking the yajña or sacrificial offerings by means of particular animal. This ritual can be performed in
two places, namely in water and in the crater of mountain. Pakelem in water can be carried out in the lake and the sea. This ritual functions to instill spiritual values to mankind in order they have a perspective of universality to nature. The perspective is to raise awareness in maintaining the harmony of nature. Pakelem should be implemented through actual measures in an effort to maintain the harmony in the universe. By and large, pakelem ritual applies many kinds of sacrificial animal in the meaning of Bhuta Yajña. This ritual has some significance as follows:
1) Exorcism (pengeruat or penyupatan) meaning.
Implementation of Bhuta Yajña ritual in the form of animal sacrifice or pakelem is arranged in such a way and then combined into a single package in the form of ritual. This matter is often questioned in the community as it has something to do with the slaughter (himsa karma). By all means, it is not like that and we should choose the conducts between himsa karma and subha karma. Implementation of Bhuta Yajña ritual denotes a subha karma (good deed) as the slaughter is in the context of penyupatan (upgrading) and give a quittance
of path to the sacrificial animal. Hopefully, soul of the animal in use could take reincarnation into a human birth in accordance with the application of the high priest. (Sang Hyang Tapeni palm-leaf manuscript). 2) Welfare meaning.
Since the pakelem ritual belongs to Bhuta Yajña, it is signifying a means for prospering the universe in relation to the forces tending to be asuri sampad or negative. On that account, it needs to be neutralized to be positive (bhutahita) for the welfare of macrocosm and microcosm.
3) Apologetic meaning (guru piduka)
This ritual also contains an apologetic meaning for the actions of human beings by carrying out purification against the Pancha Mahabhuta existing in macrocosm and microcosm through the implementation of virtues. 4) Meaning of holy sacrifice.
It has a meaning of holy sacrifice because its implementation is essentially based on respect to material, moral spiritual and sincerity. At the same manner, the Hindus realize that God has created the universe along with its contents, including humans through His yajña.

Rajapakse, who was elected president of the former British colony in 2005, mounted a stout defence of his administration’s handling of allegations of rights abuses. “We have a legal system in Sri Lanka,” he told the press conference. “We have a human rights commission, now the Commonwealth is ready to strengthen it. “If there are any violations, we will take actions against anybody.” The 67-year-old leader said his administration deserved credit for ending the conflict. “People were getting killed for 30 years, at least after 2009 we have stopped it. There is no killing in Sri Lanka today.” At least 100,000 people lost their lives in the conflict. As well as the allegations against government forces, Tamil Tiger rebels -- who were known for their trademark suicide bombings -- are also accused of killing thousands of people. Cameron, who intends to travel to the wartorn northern Jaffna peninsula, has said he wants to have “tough conversations” with Rajapakse during the summit. Cameron, who stopped off in India on his way to Sri Lanka, reiterated calls for a “proper investigation” into the last stages of the war.

Libyan food group warns against rushed subsidy reform Reuters
GENEVA - Libya should not rush a shake-up of food subsidies, aimed at curbing costs and corruption, as this could undermine private companies already hurt by delays in getting paid by the authorities, the head of grain group Al Sahl said on Wednesday. Libya is still grappling with unrest two years after the uprising overthrew long-time dictator Muammar Gaddafi, with militias disrupting the oil exports on which the country depends to fund large food imports and subsidies. Al Sahl, one of Libya’s largest grain processors, was not experiencing problems but some smaller operators were struggling after waiting up to five months for payment, Abdul-Magid Gadad, chairman of Al Sahl Holding Group said. The government should tread carefully with plans to move from a system of subsidising companies to provide cheap products to one in which it gives an allowance to households, he said. “This requires a lot of study and can’t be done overnight,” Gadad told Reuters following a presentation at the Global Grain conference in Geneva. “The government is in a mess and because of that mess they can’t plan properly.” One of the reasons for the planned reform is the smuggling of subsidised food out of Libya to other African countries further south, he said, adding that these flows could represent up to 20 percent of Libyan food production. Al Sahl is a major producer of animal feed and also has flour mills and food manufacturing plants. It handles about 870,000 tonnes of Libya’s total grain consumption of 3.7 million tonnes, almost all of which is imported, Gadad said. It aims to raise the volume of grain processed to 1 million tonnes in 2015 with a series of new plants, he added. Another headache for private companies has been delays in unloading grain at ports, Gadad said in his presentation, blaming unqualified personnel, public-sector control of port operations and poor infrastructure. Grain traders have said instability in Libya has made it hard for major buyers to hold import tenders, but a buying agency in Tripoli this week launched a tender.

However, some 10.4 million voters are being considered as “problematic” because they do not have citizenship identity numbers (NIKs). He hoped to quickly put together the data regarding these 10.4 million problematic voters. Husni added that this number was real and that the political rights of these voters must be assured.
JAYAPURA - Two people who went missing in a flash flood that hit Wasior, Teluk Wondama District, West Papua Province, on Wednesday have been found dead. “Karen Nunaki and Charles Torey, who went missing yesterday, were discovered. Their bodies have been taken by their families and buried,” Payung, a staff member of the Teluk Wondama Disaster Mitigation Agency, (BPBD) said on Thursday. Payung said his agency is still trying to confirm a report that four more residents went missing after the natural disaster, but the effort is being hampered by floodwaters. The flood destroyed three bridges, eight houses and a number of public facilities in Wasior city. Flash floods hit three sub-districts in Teluk Wondama District, West Papua, on Wednesday morning, affecting hundreds of people. The flood-affected sub-districts
are Wasior, Wondiboi and Rasiei. The floods caused substantial damage in Kubiara and Raise. Most houses were destroyed in Raise, while in Kubiara, four houses were destroyed by the floods, Payung noted. Wasior was badly hit by flash floods after several rivers, such as the Angris, Mangurai, Wanayo and Kabuow, in Teluk Wondama District broke their banks following incessant heavy rains. The floods also cut off all land transportation connecting Wondiboi and Kaibi. Victims of the flash floods in Wasior are still waiting for the government to send relief aid, a local resident said. “We have yet to receive any relief aid from the local authorities,” Yusuf Raunsai from Wasior said here on Thursday. In October 2010, flash floods devastated Wasior, leaving 153 people dead, 158 missing, 165 seriously injured, and 2,862 slightly injured.
New auditor to settle Inalum takeover Antara
JAKARTA - Indonesia and Japan have agreed to appoint a new independent auditor to evaluate the asset value of PT Inalum to settle the aluminum company’s takeover bid. “We have agreed to appoint an independent auditor approved by both parties. The name will be revealed in a couple of days,” Dahlan Iskan, the state enterprises minister, said here on Thursday. The decision is part of the commitment by the two parties to end the cooperation contract smoothly. It seems the Japanese party is rather disappointed that the cooperation has not concluded smoothly despite the fact that they have recorded 30 years of good management and technology transfer. Dahlan said the new auditor would evaluate the assets up to the end of October 2013, in line with the expiration of the contract. The two countries have still
not arrived at a mutual agreement regarding the amount Indonesia should pay Japan in connection with the Inalum transfer. Japan had set the cost of the transfer of 58.8 percent of its shares in the company at US$626 million. Indonesia, on the other hand, based on calculations by the Development and Financial Supervisory Agency (BPKP), had valued it at only US$424 million. “We had the BPKP audit results, but the auditing was done only up to March 2103. The new auditor will conduct an audit up to October 2013,” Dahlan said. Dahlan said the government has asked the BPKP to conduct a fresh audit up to October 2013 as well. “The new auditor will work, and we [BPKP] will conduct an audit simultaneously. Our results will be used as a reference by the government,” he stated. In principle, Dahlan added, the two parties have agreed to end their cooperation on a happy note.

GIANYAR - Among the local residents, the Goa Gajah Temple is better known as Cave Temple, located in the west of Bedahulu Village, Blahbatuh Subdistrict, Gianyar Regency. It is about 27 km east of Denpasar. A visit to this temple can be done easily because it is only a few feet below the highway toward the village of Tampaksiring Indeed this temple was built at the valley of Petanu River having beautiful natural panorama. Goa Gajah was rediscovered in 1923 and in 1954 was rediscovered the bathing pond in front of the cave followed by the restoration and re-installation of the shower areas that originally located in front of the cave where its condition was incomplete. In the northern part of the temple, lies a carved Cave of Nature in the shape of the letter ”T”. Inside this cave there is a Ganesha statue considered as the god of sciences. Additionally, at the location can also be encountered some fragments of statues and a Trilangga surrounded by eight small phallus.
In the cave wall, there are niches of the hermitage and the face of Cave is decorated with carvings depicting a jungle with its contents. Similarly, there is a short inscription which reads ”Kumon” and ”Sahywangsa”, which according to the type of letters it is alleged to originate in the eleventh century AD . Meanwhile in the west of the cave, there is a building retaining a squating statue inside, and the Ganesha as well as Men Brayut statue. The latter in Buddhist mythology is known as Hariti, the savior of children. In front of the cave, except for the guard statues, there are also fragments of building whose origin was unknown such as the building fragments that now being gathered in the temple’s courtyard located in the west of bathing pond. Fountain statues that have worked again in the holy bathing pond are divided into three parts and in terms of its style, they are probably derived from the eleventh century AD. Unfortunately, the statue fountain located in the middle of the pond, has not been found until now.

SAO PAULO — Cruzeiro won its third Brazilian league title after a 3-1 win against Vitoria on Wednesday, lifting the trophy with four rounds yet to be played. Willian, Ricardo Goulart and former Brazil forward Julio Baptista scored for Cruzeiro, which started celebrating at halftime after second-place Atletico Paranaense lost 2-1 to Criciuma to end its chances. With the title sealed, Cruzeiro equaled the 2007 mark set by Sao Paulo, which won with four rounds left. Cruzeiro will head into the final rounds 16 points in front of Atletico Paranaense. The Belo Horizonte team has held a comfortable lead since the halfway point of the tournament and it was just a matter of time before it clinched the title, the team’s first since 2003. Cruzeiro’s first championship came in 1966. “We have a lot to celebrate,” coach Marcelo Oliveira said just moments after being tossed in the
air several times by his players. “We all know how hard it is to win the Brazilian championship, and we did it in advance and with impressive numbers.” The title caps one of the most dominating performances in the league since it went to its current format in 2003, with every team playing each other twice. Cruzeiro is the first in history to win the trophy by beating every team at least once. It has won 23 of its 34 matches, including 11 of 12 in one streak. Cruzeiro’s title in 2003 came with a team coached by former Brazil and Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo and led by former Brazil and Fenerbahce playmaker Alex. Willian opened the scoring in the 37th minute at the Barradao Stadium in Salvador, and Dinei equalized for the home team in the 51st. GENEVA — With momentum building toward a November kickoff for the 2022 World Cup, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke says April-May is too hot to play the tournament in Qatar. “Let’s not lose time on this. April-May is not an option because of the temperature,” Valcke said on Wednesday in a statement provided to The Associated Press. Valcke is leading FIFA’s consultation to suggest which months to play after president Sepp Blatter rejected the traditional JuneJuly World Cup period because of Qatar’s searing desert heat.Blatter has suggested a November start, though spring is supported by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the influential European Club Association.
Qatar hosted the Under-20 World Cup for FIFA in April 1995, and its 2022 organizing committee insists it can still fulfill a promise to host in midsummer in air-conditioned stadiums, training camps and public areas. However, FIFA’s own research into expected temperatures in Qatar seems set to rule out a World Cup in May, which would cause less disruption to the European season than stopping for most of November and December. “The climate studies for April and May are quite similar” to June and July, Valcke said. “The best option is between mid-November and mid-January.” This year, temperatures recorded in Doha reached 41 degrees (105.8F) on May 11, while April daytime peaks ranged from 26 to 38 degrees (79 to 100F).
Though Qatar staged the 2011 Asian Cup from Jan. 7-29, Blatter has removed the January 2022 option as “totally disrespectful to the Olympic family” ahead of the Winter Olympics scheduled that February. “We have also consulted our economic and media partners,” Blatter said on Sunday in Doha, after meeting with the Emir of Qatar, who is a longstanding fellow member of the International Olympic Committee. “So many different partners are with FIFA and the Olympic Games so we cannot have the partners in two competitions at the same time.” Valcke is expected to outline a “road map” for FIFA’s consultation process following a Dec. 4-5 meeting of its executive committee in Brazil.

MEXICO CITY — Mexico swept to a 5-1 victory over New Zealand in the first leg of their intercontinental playoff on Wednesday to become the overwhelming favorite for a place at next year’s World Cup finals. Paul Aguilar put Mexico ahead in the 32nd minute and Raul Jimenez made 2-0 before the break. Oribe Peralta added two more in the second half before Rafael Marquez scored in the 84th and Chris James grabbed a consolation goal for New Zealand a minute later. Mexico, which was lucky to reach the playoff, now just needs to finish the job in the second leg next Wednesday in Wellington, New Zealand. “We’re going to go there like the score is 0-0, like we need a winning goal,” Mexico coach Miguel Herrera said. Mexico scored only seven goals in 10 qualifying games, but broke through under new coach Herrera. Herrera, the fourth Mexico coach in two months, used only players based in the national league, omitting stars like Javier Hernandez of Manchester United. SAO PAULO — Cruzeiro won its third Brazilian league title after a 3-1 win against Vitoria on Wednesday, lifting the trophy with four rounds yet to be played. Willian, Ricardo Goulart and former Brazil forward Julio Baptista scored for Cruzeiro, which started celebrating at halftime after second-place Atletico Paranaense lost 2-1 to Criciuma to end its chances. With the title sealed, Cruzeiro equaled the 2007 mark set by Sao Paulo, which won with four rounds left. Cruzeiro will head into the final rounds 16 points in front of Atletico Paranaense. The Belo Horizonte team has held a comfortable lead since the halfway point of the tournament and it was just a matter of time before it clinched the title, the team’s first since 2003. Cruzeiro’s first championship came in 1966. “We have a lot to celebrate,” coach Marcelo Oliveira said just moments after being tossed in the
air several times by his players. “We all know how hard it is to win the Brazilian championship, and we did it in advance and with impressive numbers.” The title caps one of the most dominating performances in the league since it went to its current format in 2003, with every team playing each other twice. Cruzeiro is the first in history to win the trophy by beating every team at least once. It has won 23 of its 34 matches, including 11 of 12 in one streak. GENEVA — With momentum building toward a November kickoff for the 2022 World Cup, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke says April-May is too hot to play the tournament in Qatar. “Let’s not lose time on this. April-May is not an option because of the temperature,” Valcke said on Wednesday in a statement provided to The Associated Press. Valcke is leading FIFA’s consultation to suggest which months to play after president Sepp Blatter rejected the traditional JuneJuly World Cup period because of Qatar’s searing desert heat.Blatter has suggested a November start, though spring is supported by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the influential European Club Association.
Qatar hosted the Under-20 World Cup for FIFA in April 1995, and its 2022 organizing committee insists it can still fulfill a promise to host in midsummer in air-conditioned stadiums, training camps and public areas. However, FIFA’s own research into expected temperatures in Qatar seems set to rule out a World Cup in May, which would cause less disruption to the European season than stopping for most of November and December. “The climate studies for April and May are quite similar” to June and July, Valcke said. “The best option is between mid-November and mid-January.” This year, temperatures recorded in Doha reached 41 degrees (105.8F) on May 11, while April daytime peaks ranged from 26 to 38 degrees (79 to 100F).
Though Qatar staged the 2011 Asian Cup from Jan. 7-29, Blatter has removed the January 2022 option as “totally disrespectful to the Olympic family” ahead of the Winter Olympics scheduled that February. “We have also consulted our economic and media partners,” Blatter said on Sunday in Doha, after meeting with the Emir of Qatar, who is a longstanding fellow member of the International Olympic Committee. “So many different partners are with FIFA and the Olympic Games so we cannot have the partners in two competitions at the same time.” Valcke is expected to outline a “road map” for FIFA’s consultation process following a Dec. 4-5 meeting of its executive committee in Brazil.

GIANYAR - Among the local residents, the Goa Gajah Temple is better known as Cave Temple, located in the west of Bedahulu Village, Blahbatuh Subdistrict, Gianyar Regency. It is about 27 km east of Denpasar. A visit to this temple can be done easily because it is only a few feet below the highway toward the village of Tampaksiring Indeed this temple was built at the valley of Petanu River having beautiful natural panorama. Goa Gajah was rediscovered in 1923 and in 1954 was rediscovered the bathing pond in front of the cave followed by the restoration and re-installation of the shower areas that originally located in front of the cave where its condition was incomplete. In the northern part of the temple, lies a carved Cave of Nature in the shape of the letter ”T”. Inside this cave there is a Ganesha statue considered as the god of sciences. Additionally, at the location can also be encountered some fragments of statues and a Trilangga surrounded by eight small phallus.
In the cave wall, there are niches of the hermitage and the face of Cave is decorated with carvings depicting a jungle with its contents. Similarly, there is a short inscription which reads ”Kumon” and ”Sahywangsa”, which according to the type of letters it is alleged to originate in the eleventh century AD . Meanwhile in the west of the cave, there is a building retaining a squating statue inside, and the Ganesha as well as Men Brayut statue. The latter in Buddhist mythology is known as Hariti, the savior of children. In front of the cave, except for the guard statues, there are also fragments of building whose origin was unknown such as the building fragments that now being gathered in the temple’s courtyard located in the west of bathing pond. Fountain statues that have worked again in the holy bathing pond are divided into three parts and in terms of its style, they are probably derived from the eleventh century AD. Unfortunately, the statue fountain located in the middle of the pond, has not been found until now.

GENEVA - Libya should not rush a shake-up of food subsidies, aimed at curbing costs and corruption, as this could undermine private companies already hurt by delays in getting paid by the authorities, the head of grain group Al Sahl said on Wednesday. Libya is still grappling with unrest two years after the uprising overthrew long-time dictator Muammar Gaddafi, with militias disrupting the oil exports on which the country depends to fund large food imports and subsidies. Al Sahl, one of Libya’s largest grain processors, was not experiencing problems but some smaller operators were struggling after waiting up to five months for payment, Abdul-Magid Gadad, chairman of Al Sahl Holding Group said. The government should tread carefully with plans to move from a system of subsidising companies to provide cheap products to one in which it gives an allowance to households, he said. “This requires a lot of study and can’t be done overnight,” Gadad told Reuters following a presentation at the Global Grain conference in Geneva. “The government is in a mess and because of that mess they can’t plan properly.” One of the reasons for the planned reform is the smuggling of subsidised food out of Libya to other African countries further south, he said, adding that these flows could represent up to 20 percent of Libyan food production. Al Sahl is a major producer of animal feed and also has flour mills and food manufacturing plants. It handles about 870,000 tonnes of Libya’s total grain consumption of 3.7 million tonnes, almost all of which is imported, Gadad said. It aims to raise the volume of grain processed to 1 million tonnes in 2015 with a series of new plants, he added. Another headache for private companies has been delays in unloading grain at ports, Gadad said in his presentation, blaming unqualified personnel, public-sector control of port operations and poor infrastructure. Grain traders have said instability in Libya has made it hard for major buyers to hold import tenders, but a buying agency in Tripoli this week launched a tender.

JAYAPURA - Two people who went missing in a flash flood that hit Wasior, Teluk Wondama District, West Papua Province, on Wednesday have been found dead. “Karen Nunaki and Charles Torey, who went missing yesterday, were discovered. Their bodies have been taken by their families and buried,” Payung, a staff member of the Teluk Wondama Disaster Mitigation Agency, (BPBD) said on Thursday. Payung said his agency is still trying to confirm a report that four more residents went missing after the natural disaster, but the effort is being hampered by floodwaters. The floods also cut off all land transportation connecting Wondiboi and Kaibi. Victims of the flash floods in Wasior are still waiting for the government to send relief aid, a local resident said. “We have yet to receive any relief aid from the local authorities,” Yusuf Raunsai from Wasior said here on Thursday. In October 2010, flash floods devastated Wasior, leaving 153 people dead, 158 missing, 165 seriously injured, and 2,862 slightly injured.
New auditor to settle Inalum takeover Antara
JAKARTA - Indonesia and Japan have agreed to appoint a new independent auditor to evaluate the asset value of PT Inalum to settle the aluminum company’s takeover bid. “We have agreed to appoint an independent auditor approved by both parties. The name will be revealed in a couple of days,” Dahlan Iskan, the state enterprises minister, said here on Thursday. The decision is part of the commitment by the two parties to end the cooperation contract smoothly. It seems the Japanese party is rather disappointed that the cooperation has not concluded smoothly despite the fact that they have recorded 30 years of good management and technology transfer. Dahlan said the new auditor would evaluate the assets up to the end of October 2013, in line with the expiration of the contract. The two countries have still
not arrived at a mutual agreement regarding the amount Indonesia should pay Japan in connection with the Inalum transfer. Japan had set the cost of the transfer of 58.8 percent of its shares in the company at US$626 million. Indonesia, on the other hand, based on calculations by the Development and Financial Supervisory Agency (BPKP), had valued it at only US$424 million. “We had the BPKP audit results, but the auditing was done only up to March 2103. The new auditor will conduct an audit up to October 2013,” Dahlan said. Dahlan said the government has asked the BPKP to conduct a fresh audit up to October 2013 as well. “The new auditor will work, and we [BPKP] will conduct an audit simultaneously. Our results will be used as a reference by the government,” he stated. In principle, Dahlan added, the two parties have agreed to end their cooperation on a happy note.

SINGAPORE - US auto giant General Motors (GM) said Wednesday it would move the headquarters of its international operations to Singapore from Shanghai, boosting the city-state’s status as a regional business hub. Detroit-based GM said in a statement that the relocation of its consolidated international operations would take place in the second quarter of next year. The new headquarters “will oversee key parts” of GM’s business in Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, India, South Korea and the Middle East as well as Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe, the statement added. There will be 120 employees in Singapore. GM will keep 250 employees in Shanghai and 245 in Seoul. GM said the move would allow it to focus on China, the world’s biggest vehicle market, while strengthening its presence in other countries in the region. The Singapore headquarters will “lead the company’s umbrella strategy for the region”, GM said. It said Singapore offers several advantages, including “greater proximity” to key international markets like Southeast Asia and India, the Middle East and Africa.
“We are heartened that GM has chosen to set up its international headquarters,” said Lim Kok Kiang, an assistant managing director at Singapore’s Economic Development Board. Kelly Teoh, market strategist at IG Markets in Singapore, said the move signalled a growing perception that the city-state was “trumping” Shanghai and Hong Kong as the preferred location for regional offices. “Singapore is now being seen not only as a purely Southeast Asian hub, but also an Asian hub with wide networks,” Teoh told AFP. Singapore’s clear regulatory framework and low corporate and personal income taxes also made it favourable for multinational corporations, she said. The decision “reflects Singapore’s strong competitive advantage as the Asia-Pacific’s leading headquartering hub for management functions”, said Rajiv Biswas, regional chief economist at global consultancy IHS. “However GM will remain
strongly committed to its production operations in China, which has become the world’s largest auto market since 2010,” he said. But while GM further cements its presence in China, it must also gain market share in other AsiaPacific markets such as Indonesia, India and Vietnam which are forecast to grow strongly in the next decade, Biswas said. Singapore hosts thousands of multinational corporations which have set up regional or global operations. TOKYO - Japan said Thursday that growth halved in the July-September quarter as exports weakened and consumer spending slowed, but economists were divided over what it meant for Tokyo’s drive to fire up the economy. The once-anaemic economy has lately been outpacing growth in other G7 nations as a policy blitz led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe helped push down the yen, giving a boost to exporters and sparking a stock market rally. That has stoked optimism over Japan’s prospects, but official data Thursday showed the world’s third-largest economy expanded at annualised rate of 1.9 percent, a marked slowdown from the 3.8 percent rise in the previous three months. However, the figure is higher than the 1.7 percent increase forecast in a poll of economists by the Wall Street Journal and Tokyo’s Nikkei stock index was up 2.50 percent in the afternoon, helped by a weakening yen. On a quarter-on-quarter basis the economy grew 0.5 percent, slightly higher than expectations but well down from the 0.9 percent increase in the previous three months. The figures mean Japan’s headline-grabbing growth in the first half of the year has now fallen behind the US economy, which expanded 2.8 percent in the three months to September. Analysts have been warning that Tokyo’s bold pro-growth programme -- a mix of big government spending and central bank monetary easing -- is not enough on its own without promised economic reforms. The proposed shakeup, including loosening rigid labour laws and signing wide-ranging free trade deals, are seen as key to ushering in lasting change in an economy plagued by years of deflation. On Wednesday, Japanese legislators passed a bill that paves the way for an opening up of the electricity sector, but other key reforms have so far been mostly talk. That has raised the prospect of the Bank of Japan having to expand its already unprecedented monetary easing measures, launched in April, to give another jolt to the economy, analysts said. Critics of Abe’s policy -- dubbed “Abenomics” -- say growth so far is largely thanks to stimulus spending and the BoJ’s injections of vast amounts of money into the financial system, similar to the US Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing. Despite the downbeat data Thursday, Masahiko Hashimoto, economist at Daiwa Institute of Research, said it was too early to cast a verdict on Abenomics with consumer spending still “solid” and exports expected to turn up as key Asian demand bounces back. But Masamichi Adachi, senior economist at JPMorgan Securities, was less optimistic, saying much of growth so far was driven by public works spending. Japan has the heaviest debt burden among wealthy nations with a national debt standing at more than twice the size of the economy. The outcome of the meeting would serve as a basis for the establishment of cooperation among ASEAN member states in the protection of witnesses and victims of transnational crimes, he said. “There has been a common view of the need to protect witnesses physically without revealing their identities and whereabouts,” he said. In addition, the meeting also
underscored the need to provide security and medical services to and restore psychological condition of witnesses and victims of transnational crimes, he said. Haris expressed hope that the Indonesian government could prepare secretariat to facilitate the formation of the special agency. Pakelem ritual is classified into Bhuta Yajna. Pakelem means sinking the yajña or sacrificial offerings by means of particular animal. This ritual can be performed in
two places, namely in water and in the crater of mountain. Pakelem in water can be carried out in the lake and the sea. This ritual functions to instill spiritual values to mankind in order they have a perspective of universality to nature. The perspective is to raise awareness in maintaining the harmony of nature. Pakelem should be implemented through actual measures in an effort to maintain the harmony in the universe. By and large, pakelem ritual applies many kinds of sacrificial animal in the meaning of Bhuta Yajña. This ritual has some significance as follows:
1) Exorcism (pengeruat or penyupatan) meaning.
Implementation of Bhuta Yajña ritual in the form of animal sacrifice or pakelem is arranged in such a way and then combined into a single package in the form of ritual. This matter is often questioned in the community as it has something to do with the slaughter (himsa karma). By all means, it is not like that and we should choose the conducts between himsa karma and subha karma. Implementation of Bhuta Yajña ritual denotes a subha karma (good deed) as the slaughter is in the context of penyupatan (upgrading) and give a quittance
of path to the sacrificial animal. Hopefully, soul of the animal in use could take reincarnation into a human birth in accordance with the application of the high priest. (Sang Hyang Tapeni palm-leaf manuscript). 2) Welfare meaning.
Since the pakelem ritual belongs to Bhuta Yajña, it is signifying a means for prospering the universe in relation to the forces tending to be asuri sampad or negative. On that account, it needs to be neutralized to be positive (bhutahita) for the welfare of macrocosm and microcosm.
3) Apologetic meaning (guru piduka)
This ritual also contains an apologetic meaning for the actions of human beings by carrying out purification against the Pancha Mahabhuta existing in macrocosm and microcosm through the implementation of virtues. 4) Meaning of holy sacrifice.
It has a meaning of holy sacrifice because its implementation is essentially based on respect to material, moral spiritual and sincerity. At the same manner, the Hindus realize that God has created the universe along with its contents, including humans through His yajña.

Land dredging activities are not only rife in Kintamani region, but have also penetrated the area of Bangli town. One of them is the one found in the neighborhood of Bangli Hill. The hill located at Cempaga village has been dredged since the past few months using heavy equipment. One of the residents, Sutresna, assessed the activities of land dredging in the region were quite hazardous as on the excavation site also stood a highvoltage power pole. NIAMEY - Nigeria’s army offensive against Islamist militants has pushed nearly 40,000 refugees over its northern border into Niger, a U.N. agency said, in a drive that is straining food supplies in the drought-prone country. The United Nations estimated in June there were 6,000 refugees from Nigeria but the figure has soared as President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped up attacks on Boko Haram militants. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its latest monthly report that of a total 37,332 refugees, nearly 29,000 are officially Niger nationals and the rest are Nigerian. “These figures, three times above the level the humanitarian workers were planning for, give an indication of the difficulties of developing a humanitarian response,” it said. Boko Haram is seen as the biggest risk to stability in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country and top oil producer, which shares a 1,500 kilometre border with its landlocked northern neighbour Niger along the edge of the Sahara Desert. The United States formally designated Boko Haram and splinter group Ansaru as terrorist organisations on Wednesday. OCHA said the refugees in Niger were spread over 20 different areas in the semi-desert southern province of Diffa and that they were living mostly with local hosts. A spokesman for the government in Niger declined to comment. A Nigerian defence spokesman said he had no information about refugees crossing the border. Nigerian emergency service officials were not available for comment. The rising number of refugees in Niger is expected to put further strain on food supplies after a disappointing harvest. According to an October report by FEWS NET, a USAID-funded famine network, 1.2 million people in Niger will be in a situation of acute food insecurity from January 2014. Thousands of refugees have also spilled into Cameroon, prompting Nigeria to reach out for help in policing their shared border. The United Nations has called on neighbouring countries to keep their borders open and has urged Niger to grant refugee status to the Nigerian nationals in the Diffa region.

Philippine soldiers on trucks distributed rice and water as chainsaw-wielding teams cut debris from blocked roads. Thousands more swarmed the city’s damaged airport, desperate to leave or to get treatment at a makeshift medical center. The USS George Washington aircraft carrier arrived in the Philippine Sea near the Gulf of Leyte Thursday, and will set up a position off the coast of Samar Island to assess the damage and provide medical and water supplies, the 7th Fleet said in a statement.
The carrier and its strike group together bring 21 helicopters to the area, which can help reach the most inaccessible areas. Authorities say 2,357 people have been confirmed dead in the disaster, but that figure is expected to rise, perhaps significantly, when information is collected from other areas of the disaster zone. In the city’s first mass burial, 100 bodies in leaking black bags were lowered into graves without any prayers being said. John Cajipe, 31, and three teenage boys who work at the local cemetery placed the first body in the grave’s right hand corner. And so on, until scores of bodies — all un-

tartan plaid skirt that no school would allow. Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz trailed pretty closely behind them, and who can blame him? RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch claims to have made what just might be the world’s most desirable pair of jeans: whipped up from a high-tech denim that combats cellulite so its wearers can hone their beach bodies even as they bundle up for Brazil’s gentle winters. Herchcovitch’s so-called “beauty denim,” which he says harnesses body heat and turns it into infrared rays that stimulate cellulite-combatting micro-circulation, made its debut at the designer’s winter 2014 show at Fashion Rio, Rio de Janeiro’s four-day fashion extravaganza, which wrapped up on Saturday. The jury is still out on the veracity of the Sao Paulo designer’s claim to have produced the world’s first anti-cellulite denim. Herchcovitch says five years of research into the product shows it is effective, but medical experts have cautioned there is no miracle cure for cellulite. All that aside, the models donning the denim looked like they had precious little need of micro-circulation as they stomped the catwalk. In skinny jeans and cat suits made from a patchwork of indigo and grey denim with a metallic
sheen, the models looked like tough, street-wise urban incarnations of medieval knights in suits of armor. The skinny jean cum pleated skirt combos looked like what a 21st century Joan of Arc would wear, while the high-impact eyewear — oversized sunglasses in the shape of ski masks — conjured an urban knight’s protective visor. Besides “beauty denim,” the other material of choice on Rio’s catwalks was suede. Hand-painted or laser-cut, in earth tones or eyepopping hues, plenty of it was on display at the winter 2014 shows, which opened under unusually chilly and drizzly skies for the southern hemisphere’s spring. Brazil’s reigning queen of leather, Patricia Viera, looked to the 1970s for a collection of maxi-dresses and flares in supple, jewel-tone leather laser cut so intricately the clothes almost appeared to be made from lace. The collection also included plenty of the kinds of hand-painted pieces that have become her hallmark, including bellbottoms and skirts that bloomed with a multicolored riot of wildflowers. The highlights of the strong collection were the suede mini-dresses and fringed jackets emblazoned with oversized Hopi Indian Kachina dolls.

We recorded the number of foreign tourist arrival in Bali in September rose 18.75 percent or 305,629 people,” he said. He explained the most tourists making a visit to the Island of the Gods were from Australia, PRC, Malaysia, Japan and France. “Contribution of Australia to Bali tourism remains on top rank, reaching 23.36 percent, while the lowest was that of France at 4.92 percent,” he said. It was mentioned the countries experiencing the largest increase in the number of foreign tourist arrival in the period of January-September 2013 compared to the previous year was Taiwan at 25.78 percent. Meanwhile, the largest decline happened to England at 1.29 percent. “Indeed, the tourist arrival to Bali fluctuates depending on the season. School building damaged, budget allocated worth IDR 20 billion Denpasar (Bali Post)—
In fiscal year 2014, the Denpasar Education Agency drafted the arrangement and refurbishment to 20 units of damaged buildings from elementary to high school. To realize the plan, the Education Agency proposed a budget of IDR 20 billion. The Head of Denpasar Education Agency IGN Eddy Mulya revealed the matter, Wednesday (Nov 13). According to Eddy Mulya, the refurbishment process would target the existing infrastructure such as constructing multilevel floor (second floor), courtyard arrangement, library and other infrastructure arrangement. He said the amount of budget disbursed for each school would depend on the level of damage and the arrangement to be made. “Budget allocation is still in the drafting stage in the main regional budget 2014. I do hope this plan can be approved by the House. Hopefully, there is a common understanding with the House,” he said. He added the number of schools to be refurbished and the amount of budget allocated was still waiting for a more detailed discussion. Obviously, before approved there would be a hearing with the House. “Now, it is still in the drafting process by our party. If the budget is adequate, the number of building units to be refurbished will be added,” he said. Related to school merger in anticipation against the schools with overloaded number of students, so far his party had no such a plan. Merger model was combining a number of schools where one of them was considered to have received inadequate number of student. “During my office, none has been made but in the past it was made to a lot of schools. For this year, there is no such a plan. From 2012 to 2014, there are no plans for a merger,” he said while adding that before 2012 there were a number of schools merged with the ones getting fewer students and located close to each other. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

NEW YORK — The watching world was horrified when, on Jan. 28, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger exploded over Cape Canaveral, Fla., just seconds after liftoff. Seven crew members, including beloved Teacher-In-Space Christa McAuliffe, lost their lives and the manned space program was dealt a nearly mortal blow. Five months later, the reason — two of the shuttle’s O-rings had failed during launch — was made public, a major finding of the presidential commission formed to solve the mystery. A vocal member of that commission was Richard Feynman, a world-renowned physicist and Nobel laureate whose sharp mind and dogged spirit led him to the design flaw, in the process exposing negligence and cover-ups by both NASA and the contractor supplying it the O-rings. A new film, “The Challenger Disaster,” stars William Hurt as Feynman (with costars including Brian Dennehy and Bruce Greenwood). Airing Saturday at 9 p.m. EST on Science Channel and Discovery Channel, it depicts his unswervable search for the truth, even in the face of resistance from his colleagues. “In a way, Feynman interested me more than the project did,” says Hurt. “This is mostly an event story, but I thought we could allow character to exist within the narrative and lead to a greater conclusion: Human courage is really what it’s all about,
and listening to your own instinctive, loving skeptic. That’s what Feynman did.” It’s a nippy fall day and Hurt is discussing the film, and many other things, with a reporter as he walks his dog, Lucy, in Manhattan’s Riverside Park. The 63-year-old Hurt, a TV, stage and Oscar-winning film star (for “Kiss of the Spider Woman”), has been taking an acting break this fall to play a different role, that of student, as this former Tufts theology major plunges, with undisguised humility, into a pair of courses at Columbia University: computer science and Indo-Tibetan Hinduism. “I’m working pretty hard,” he says with clear understatement as he unsnaps the leash worn by Lucy, a gentle Doberman pinscherLabrador mix, who is nibbling some grass and contemplating the joggers. “Your mind, your heart must learn to value yourself,” Hurt says, pivoting back to what Feynman taught him. “That’s where your answers will come from: Learn to bear your frustrations gladly, ‘cause they’re your teacher. YOU are your teacher.”

NEW YORK — Don Cheadle will play Miles Davis in a biopic the actor has long planned on the innovative jazz pioneer. BiFrost Pictures told The Associated Press on Wednesday that it will finance and produce “Kill the Trumpet Player,” with Cheadle also making his directorial debut. Cheadle has been trying to make the film for years, but production is finally set to begin in June. The production company said the movie won’t be a traditional biopic, but will focus on when Davis temporarily retired from making music and then re-emerged in 1979. The script is written by Cheadle and Steven Baigelman. Ewan McGregor will co-star as a Rolling Stone reporter, and Zoe Saldana will play Frances Davis, the trumpet player’s former wife. The film is being made with the collaboration of Davis’ family. Davis collaborator Herbie Hancock will also be involved in the production. Davis died in 1991 at age 65.

TABANAN - Another beauty of nature owned by Tabanan is internationally recognized. After Jatiluwih, the Lake Beratan, Baturiti, was included into one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. This boasting predicate was released by an American medium, Huffington Post, last week. The beauty of Lake Beratan was mentioned slightly different from Lake Xi Hu or West Lake in China and Lake Kawaguchi in Japan. Operations Manager of Ulun Danu Beratan tourist attraction, Wayan Mustika, confirmed the award on Wednesday (Nov 13). He claimed to have been visited by foreign media for several times, including the one from the America. “I’ve got information if Lake Beratan was included in the most beautiful lakes in the world.
