WASHINGTON - Celine Dion has indefinitely halted all her show business activity and canceled her upcoming Asia tour to care for her husband as he battles ill health, the superstar said Wednesday.

NASHVILLE — Nick Rhodes is on the phone to talk about Duran Duran’s concert film collaboration with director David Lynch that’s slated for a one-night-only theatrical engagement next month. As he talks of being inspired by Lynch’s “The Elephant Man” as a teenager, he can hear another one of his inspirations nearby: Nile Rodgers on guitar. “I can actually hear him playing the guitar just down the corridor from where I am right now,” Rhodes says gleefully. Next month will mark a period of high activity for Duran Duran. Along with work to finish a new album, the British rock band will appear at the Fashion Rocks concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Sept. 9 before releasing “Duran Duran: Unstaged” in more than 300 North American theaters on Sept. 10. The film is an enhanced version of Lynch’s original livestream presentation, with tweaks and enhancements to improve on the 2011 original. The “American Express Unstaged” series pairs musicians with directors who design a one-off live show that even a band as seasoned as Duran Duran was nervous about. “It literally was live live,” Rhodes said. “It was one of those moments where we all looked at each other and said, ‘Good luck, let’s see what happens.’ And it went out on the Internet just exactly as we played it, and of course there were some things that didn’t work quite as well as others, and footage that didn’t sync up in the most beautiful place

other footage which varied between sort of hand puppets and aero-planes and clocks and machinery and this footage just sort of literally was superimposed over us playing ... and I think the results are really pretty unusual.” The band is shooting for less radically different results in the recording studio where it has been cutting songs with Rodgers, who co-produced the group’s 1986 album, “Notorious.” Mark Ronson and Mr Hudson are also producing tracks. The album will be mixed next month, and Rhodes said it will be out in the first half of 2015. “I think we know where we want to be and it’s right in the center of the dance floor,” Rhodes said. “That’s what we’re aiming for together.”

To reporters, she admitted that she intended to go to Bali after getting an offer by a woman with the initial S from Bandung who had been successful in Bali. At first, she was offered to be a restaurant employee with the salary of IDR 3 million. Then, OT departed on Saturday night (Aug 9). Regent of Klungkung, Nyoman Suwirta, when contacted on Wednesday (Aug 13), admitted to be surprised with the decline. The art of work was not made on canvas, but on hard materials resembling asbestos. The paintings were removed from the northeast to the south. “Storyline of the painting starts from that direction. So, to remove it must be in order,” he said. The paintings were then stored in the Semarajaya Museum and strictly locked. Meanwhile, to prevent the painting from changing position or being lost, each painting had been marked with number. Even, it had been recorded visually when removing them one by one. Among those paintings, he said that some were in damaged condition. It happened due to aging and weather condition. Moreover, the roof had been leaking quite a long time. The damaged paintings would

be replaced with similar painting both in terms of material and story. After securing the paintings, the demolition of roof and rafters was started. Meanwhile, the rehabilitation to Kertha Gosa would be carried out after completing the Taman Gili. The rehabilitation project was handled by PT Suri Mas Perkasa for 120 days. On the other hand, despite being rehabilitated, one of these tourist attractions remains to be visited by foreign and domestic travelers. Even, the tourist arrival was increasing lately so that it kindled traffic jam around the area. Throughout the year 2013, the Kertha Gosa was visited by 54,745 travelers. The amount was the third largest after tourism area of Nusa Penida reaching 185,909 people and Goa Lawah Temple (55,308 people) of the total tourist arrival reaching 298,979 people. (kmb31)

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

DENPASAR - The Indian Consulate General in Bali will celebrate the 68th Independence Day of India at its office in the Mandala Renon area on Friday. “The observance of the Indian independence day will be marked with the hoisting of the Indian flag and will be attended by the Indian community in Bali and Indian citizens from Indonesia’s eastern provinces, including those from Timor Leste,” Spokesman of the Indian Consulate General in Bali Ni Ketut Kharisna Mutiara here on Thursday. He said that the celebration would be carried out in traditional way full of passion and happiness. The raising of the Three-Color Flag will be accompanied with the singing of the Indian national anthem and patriotic songs by students of local international schools. Every year, teachers and students from the Gandhi Memorial International School and the Taman Rama International School take part in singing the songs with nationalism and patriotic spirit. In Bali, there are about 2,000 Indian citizens and descendants of native Indians who harmoniously co-exist with other communities.

Three karawitan musicians, Pande Made Sukerta of Buleleng District, the late I Wayan Maru of Klungkung District, and Ida Bagus Nyoman Mas of Badung District, were granted the 2014 Dharma Kusuma Award. The award was also bestowed on two dance artists, Ni Wayan Murdi of Denpasar District and I Wayan Kalam of Tabanan District. Meanwhile, two sculptors, I Ketut Muja of Gianyar District and I Gede Wibawa of Jembrana District, were also granted the award. Late I Dewa Made Daging of Bangli District and I Made Degung of Karangasem District were bestowed the award for their contribution in the field of regional literature. The awardees received charters, 10-gram golden badges, and Rp eight million worth of cash money. The awards for the deceased artists were handed over to their family representatives. “Their names were proposed by each district administration before being selected by the provincial team. NUSA DUA - The teenage daughter of an American woman found dead inside a suitcase on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali has asked for U.S. legal representation, an Indonesian lawyer said. Police arrested the daughter, Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, 21, on Wednesday after a taxi driver found a battered body in a suitcase outside the St. Regis luxury hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali. The body was identified by hospital officials as Chicago-based Sheila von WieseMack, 62. “She doesn’t want to comment on the incident and she declined to give any information,” Haposan Sihombing, an Indonesian lawyer appointed by police to represent Mack, told Reuters late on Wednesday. “She kept asking to be represented by a lawyer from the United States,” Sihombing said. Neither Mack nor Schaefer have been charged. The U.S. State Department is aware of reports of a U.S. citizen’s death in Bali and the arrests of two people in connection with the case, said a State Department spokeswoman, Marie Harf. FRANKFURT - Economic recovery in the 18-country eurozone appeared to stall in the second quarter, as the main growth engines, France and Germany, ground to a standstill, data showed on Thursday. In Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, activity actually contracted slightly by 0.2 percent, hit by weak exports and falling investment, according to a flash estimate by the federal statistics office Destatis. And the region’s number two economy, France, showed zero growth for the second consecutive quarter, according to the national statistics office INSEE. In Germany, analysts had been forecasting zero growth or even a

minimal contraction in the second quarter after the unusually mild winter boosted activity in the first three months of the year. Destatis explained that, as a result of the mild weather, construction investment that would normally have been made later in the year was brought forward. Exports were also weak, not climbing as strongly as imports, with the result that the net contribution of foreign trade to GDP growth was negative in the second quarter.

LONDON — The Bank of England modestly upgraded its growth forecast for the U.K. on Wednesday but signaled its concerns over the failure of wages, which are actually falling for the first time since 2009, to keep track with the projected expansion. In its quarterly economic projections, the bank raised its 2014 growth forecast to 3.5 percent from 3.4 percent and Governor Mark Carney said the momentum is looking more assured, with unemployment expected to drop below 6 percent by the end of the year. Figures earlier showed the unemployment down at 6.4 percent in the April to June period, its lowest rate in nearly 6 years. However, the bank halved its forecast for wage growth in 2014 to a below-inflation 1.25 percent. “This expansion faces some challenges,” Carney said, noting that geopolitical risks have intensified and that financial conditions were likely to become tighter as the global recovery progresses. “Sustained expansion here at home will ultimately require growth in productivity and real incomes, both of which have disappointed,” he said. Figures from the Office of National Statistics showed that pay including bonuses in the April to June period was 0.2 percent lower than a year earlier, due to an unusually high

growth rate a year ago. Whatever the reason, that was the first time wages have fallen since May, 2009 when Britain was, like much of the world, mired in a deep recession following the global financial crisis. If bonuses were excluded, the growth rate measured at 0.6 percent higher than a year earlier. Carney acknowledged that the weakness in wages means that the measure of “slack” in the economy had been greater than previously thought. As a result, he said that the economy, Europe’s third-largest, may be able to sustain a higher level of employment without generating additional inflationary pressures. With wages lagging inflation, Chris Williamson, an economist at Markit, says policymakers will be reluctant to raise interest rates for fear of stalling the recovery. Williamson said the bank wants to ensure pay is rising so that households can afford higher borrowing costs. That’s certainly the immediate view in the markets, where the pound has fallen 0.6 percent to $1.6703. The central bank has kept its main interest rate at a record low of 0.5 percent since 2009 to help nurse the economy back to health. YANGON, Myanmar — Divers attached to safety ropes have plunged into waters south of Myanmar’s old capital as part of renewed efforts to retrieve a bronze bell that has been lying for centuries at the confluence of three rivers. The 270-ton bell, believed to be one of the largest ever cast, was made on the order of King Dhammazedi in 1476 and donated to the revered Shwedagon pagoda. The prisoners, who are likely to be released soon, have been offered a refuge in Uruguay, where President Jose Mujica agreed as a humanitarian gesture to accept men that the U.S. has decided do not pose a threat but cannot return to their homelands. Here, they will find few fellow Muslims and a country divided over their pending arrival. U.S. officials, who in the past have avoided disclosing the release of prisoners in advance, have not said when the men may arrive, nor even publicly confirmed that they are coming. In July, the Pentagon gave Congress a legally required notice of at least 30 days that it intended to send the men to Uruguay, suggesting the transfer may be imminent. Mujica is a former leftist guerrilla who was jailed before and during a dictatorship that ruled the country in 1973-85. He told The Associated Press in May that the six men from Guantanamo will be free to move about once they make it to Uruguay, and he repeated his welcome in recent remarks. “With the exception of the dictatorship, Uruguay has been a country of refuge and for us it’s a matter

of principle,” the president said on his weekly radio show. He has said Uruguayan businesses have already offered to find work for the men. Others in the country of 3.2 million people may not share the president’s enthusiasm for the new arrivals. The weekly magazine Busqueda reported the results of a July survey that said half the country opposed offering asylum to the men, while 30 percent supported it and 20 percent had no opinion. “Uruguay is an open country, made up of easygoing people who accept all cultures. But for a significant number, Islam has a bad image,” said Jaled Elqut, who came to Uruguay two years ago from Egypt and now leads prayer services at an Islamic cultural center in Montevideo, the capital. The six prisoners — four Syrians, one Palestinian and one Tunisian — have been held at Guantanamo since 2002, when the U.S. government began using the base to detain men suspected of terrorism or links to al-Qaida and the Taliban. transfer of any prisoners to U.S. soil and added new legal requirements before they could be sent abroad. About 600 prisoners have been released under both Obama and his predecessor, George W. Bush, most of them sent to their home countries. But dozens of the 149 who remain cannot be sent back because they are likely to face harm or persecution at home or because the U.S. does not consider the security situation stable enough. Finding countries to accept men from Guantanamo has been a struggle. The U.S. has scattered a group of ethnic Uighur prisoners from western China around the globe, to places that include El Salvador, Albania, Bermuda and the Pacific island of Palau. Some have since moved on as they seek to rebuild their lives. The neighboring countries of Brazil and Argentina have substantial Muslim populations. But there are only about 300 Muslims in Uruguay, said Susana Mangana, a professor of Arabic and Islamic studies at Universidad Catolica. Raising the liquefied petroleum (LPG) gas price was a corporate action and Pertamina did not need government approval because the gas was not subsidized, Pertamina Vice President for Corporate Communications, Ali Mudakir, had earlier said. “I am also convinced that the government will not intervene in this matter because if it does, there will be consequences and the government will have to bear the price difference. It could be judged subsidized goods if there is an intervention from the government,” he added. Raising the price of LPG has been a road map of Pertamina since early 2014 until mid-2016. This is intended to create an economic viability of LPG in the 12-kg cylinder price, he said. Besides, the price increase of 12-kg gas cylinder would not burden consumers who on an average belonged to the middle and upper classes, he was convinced.. “Now, the price of LPG is Rp6,500 per kg at Pertamina level and Rp15,000 per kg at the distributor level. Thus, there is a price gap of Rp800 per kg. We also always conducted publicity drives to inform consumers that the 12-kg gas cylinder is mainly designed for consumers in the middle and upper classes,” he said.

JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Police is collaborating with immigration officials to tighten the supervision of Indonesian citizens travelling to Iraq and Syria to prevent the spread of “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” (ISIS) in Indonesia. “The police is working closely with the immigration office and coordinating with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights for identifying Indonesian citizens who go directly to Iraq and Syria or through the countries of the Middle East,” Indonesian National Police Chief General Sutarman stated on Thursday. According to him, the police have also retrieved a note revealing that there were 56 Indonesians who went to Syria, of which four had died. “There were four Indonesian citizens who died there (Syria) in the area of conflict. Someone died because of suicide bombings,” he remarked. Sutarman pointed out that there

were Indonesian citizens who directly went to Syria and Iraq, while some others when through the countries of the Middle East. “We want them to be supervised. However, the immigration has authority to ban them,” he affirmed. The Indonesian National Police has mapped a community group, which is allegedly affiliated with Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). “The people affiliated with ISIS are hard-line groups that have existed in Indonesia, and they have already been mapped by the police.
