LONDON - Britain’s Princes William and Harry joined the cast of the new film “Star Wars: The LastPIC Jedi,” in which the royal brothers both play small roles, on the red carpet at the film’s European premiere in London on Tuesday. The event, at the Royal Albert Hall, saw stars including Mark Hammill, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver join the princes on the red carpet, surrounded by an honour guard of armour-clad stormtroopers.

“It’s not only the most action-packed, it’s just the most emotional, it pulls you in several different directions, it’s spontaneous,” Boyega told Reuters of his impressions of the Walt Disney Co film, which is widely expected to top 2017’s global box office. The princes appear in the film as storm-troopers, clad head-to-toe in the characters’ signature white armour. During Tuesday’s event, they were greeted on the red carpet by robot character BB8, and presented with souvenir storm-trooper helmets. NEW YORK - Celebrity chef Mario Batali said on Monday that he has stepped away from his restaurant company and ABC said it asked him to step aside as co-host of a daytime food and talk show after he was accused of sexual harassment in a report by an online food trade publication. Eater New York reported that four women, who were not identified, accused Batali of touching them inappropriately in a pattern of behavior that spanned at least two decades. Three worked for the chef during their careers, according to Eater New York. Batali said in a statement emailed by his representative Risa Heller, “I apologize to the people I have mistreated and hurt. Although the identities of most of the individuals mentioned in these stories have not been revealed to me, much of the behavior described does, in fact, match up with ways I have acted.” “That behavior was wrong and there are no excuses,” he said. “I take full responsibility and am deeply sorry for any pain, humiliation or discomfort I have caused.”

Reuters could not independently confirm the accusations. Batali said in the statement that he was stepping away from day-today operations of his businesses as he works to regain people’s trust and respect. Batali’s reputation as a master of seasonal Italian food turned him into a restaurant executive, television star, cookbook author and one of the world’s most recognizable chefs. He premiered on Food Network in 1997 on the show “Molto Mario” and in 2011 helped launch “The Chew” on ABC. B&B Hospitality Group, which services about 24 restaurants owned by Batali and other chefs, said in an emailed statement that it takes such accusations seriously. “We have had systematic policies and training about sexual harassment for over 10 years, including a detailed procedure for employees to report complaints to senior management,” B&B Hospitality Group said. “All members of management have participated in these trainings, including Mr. Batali.” (rtr)

Buses of over 25-seat capacity banned from entering Ubud

GIANYAR — Gianyar Transportation Agency issued a circular related to traffic management in Ubud tourism area. The circular No.800/1093/ Dishub imposes a ban for bus with the capacity of 25 seats and more from entering Ubud area. On the other hand, the transportation agency officers together with the Gianyar Police Traffic Affairs start to gradually crack down on illegal parking as held on Jalan Raya Ubud on Tuesday (Dec. 12). Announcement of the agency stipulates a number of provisions. Related to the ban for the entry of buses with the capacity of more than 25 seats is valid starting from the southern side including the intersection of Pengosekan and the intersection of Kalah hamlet, Peliatan. The east side includes the intersection of Ambengan hamlet and north side is the intersection of Kedewatan village. Medium vehicle with a maximum capacity of 25 seats is only allowed to enter the Ubud area to the Central Parking at Monkey Forest and Dalem Puri Cemetery. Smaller vehicles with capacity under 15 seats are allowed to enter Ubud area just to drop off and raise passengers. Fourth point of the announcement confirms the parking ban on the roads and sidewalks for all types of vehicles including motorcycles, passenger cars, buses and freight cars. “This prohibition applies in all Ubud road section. Dropping off and raising passengers and goods are allowed at specified places and times,” explained the Head of the Gianyar Transportation Agency, Wayan Arthana. The agency has also listed seven parking points including the Monkey Forest Central Parking, Batukaru Temple on Jalan Suweta, Dalem Puri Temple, Puri Lukisan Central Parking, Ubud Market, Singakerta Market including parking pockets of government offices, businesses and private parking areas. Arthana asserted, if any violations are still found they will be subject to sanction of locking the wheels to towing. Although the implementation of provisions is effective on December 17, the ranks of the Gianyar Transportation Agency and Gianyar Police Traffic Affairs began to disseminate it. Parking sterilization has been carried out on the road section along Jalan Raya Ubud from the statue of Lord Indra westward to central intersection of Ubud. “This trial is done in stages while disseminating to the owners of vehicles. In the future, this will surely continue to be done with customary village,” he added. Meanwhile, Chief of Gianyar Police Traffic Affairs, Eka Putra Astawa, said that in addition to discipline parking and dissemination, his ranks also installed a water barrier along Jalan Raya Ubud. This is meant to prevent parking violations. “This installation is carried out from Ambengan intersection westward to Ubud central intersection,” he said. After conducting dissemination, the road sections previously often used as illegal parking space began to look clean from vehicles at noon last Tuesday. If there were still vehicles parked, they were immediately given a warning letter by police. “Furthermore, my officers will keep monitoring on the road section to prevent violations,” he said. When asked about the other road sections such as Jalan Raya Hanoman, Monkey Forest and Jalan Dewi Sita in which half of the road is still used to park vehicles, he said, the parking arrangement efforts are done in stages. The next stage, the agency will target these road sections. “Yes, we gradually arrange the parking so that local people will not be surprised. School disseminates disaster response via poster competition

AMLAPURA — Disaster response dissemination continues to be done. However, the implementation is less comprehensive to all aspects of society as indicated by many people that do not understand the disaster eruption of Mount Agung. Similarly, it happens to students in Karangasem. To instill the importance of disaster response to the students, the SMPN 2 Amlapura junior high school expresses it through a poster they made on Tuesday (Dec. 12). The poster contest is designed to be simple by involving all class representatives of the VII, VIII and IX grade. However, it is very appropriate objective in facing the current threat of natural disasters of Mount Agung eruption. The theme is Mount Agung Disaster Response. Through this theme, students are freed to describe how to respond to Mount Agung disaster in their poster work. Other than taking advantage of the school break time, the poster contest is also meant to test their understanding about disaster response. “Through this contest, we want to help local government and related institutions to disseminate massive disaster response to students at schools,” said Deputy Headmaster in charge of Student Affairs of SMPN 2 Amlapura, Wayan Widnyana. Each class is represented by two students. In total, there are 70 participants taking part in the contest. From this contest, one best work will be used by school as a medium of dissemination to all students of the SMPN 2 Amlapura. The message expressed by student in the poster is usually

more easily understood by other students. Likewise, this method is done by school to change student’s perspective on the eruption disaster of Mount Agung. Understandably, the psychological condition of students has not recovered yet after the moment of September 22, related to the increased activities of Mount Agung under the warning alert level for the first time where many residents left Karangasem to other regions. Since then, quite a lot of students are still worried when attending school. Moreover, when Mount Agung erupted in 1963, SMPN 2 Amlapura was one of the pathways passed through by the flow of lava originating from the crater of Mount Agung. “If students have better understanding dealing with disasters, the anxiety will slow down. We need other ways to approach students so as to make them faster and easier to understand about disaster response,” said Widnyana. Headmaster of SMPN 2 Amlapura, I Wayan Gede Suastika, added that psychological condition of students in facing the threat of

Mount Agung eruption disaster has slowly improved. Previously, they studied outside the town but have returned to SMPN 2 Amlapura. Many things have been done by SMPN 2 Amlapura in helping disseminate disaster response efforts. In addition to the emphasis on students, dissemination is also done to parents. If they already understand how to deal with these threats, the Mount Agung eruption will no longer be considered as a frightening disaster. According to him, disaster response dissemination actually provides an understanding for the community, especially students, so they know what to do. It is very important to reduce the number of casualties. “We are aware that local government and related agencies have limited chance to conduct dissemination, so we have an initiative to insert disaster response dissemination into the agenda of various school activities. INDIANAPOLIS - Motorcycle passengers are less likely than drivers to wear helmets, and they are more likely to suffer traumatic brain injuries in crashes, a U.S. study suggests. Researchers studied almost 80,000 motorcycle drivers and nearly 6,000 passengers who were involved in crashes between 2007 and 2010. Two-thirds of the drivers were wearing helmets, compared to only 57.5 percent of the passengers. Traumatic brain injuries were the most common type of injury for drivers and passengers, the study found. But passengers experienced this more often, in 40 percent of cases, compared with 36 percent of cases for drivers, the researchers report in JAMA Surgery. Even when they wear helmets, passengers are still more at risk than drivers. The rate of traumatic brain injury was 36 percent among helmeted passengers, compared to 31 percent among helmeted drivers. “We believe that in certain accidents, the passenger is more likely to be ejected from the motorcycle,” said Dr. Tyler Evans of the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. “This is likely to increase the risk for serious head injury despite helmet use, given that being ejected from the motorcycle at a high rate of speed may be too severe of an impact for the helmet to be as protective,” Evans said by email. Drivers might have lower risk for these injuries because they sit behind a protective windshield and have a firm grip on the steering column, while the passenger often sits at a higher position behind the driver with little to hold on to, Evans added. “Being directly above the back wheel, one can hypothesize that passengers are more prone to being ejected from the motorcycle, likely adding to the potential for serious head and neck injuries,” Evans said. “The drivers have the benefit of being more aware of what is in front of them and have a higher chance of bracing themselves and creating a tighter grip on the motorcycle, while the passenger often may not have the same reaction time given they are not controlling the motorcycle.” Alcohol also played a role, the study found. Fewer than half of passengers and drivers under the influence of alcohol wore helmets: 42 percent and 49 percent, respectively. Passengers had higher traumatic brain injury rates even after researchers accounted for alcohol use, drug use, age and sex. The study wasn’t a controlled experiment designed to prove whether or how helmet use or where someone sits on a motorcycle influences their odds of injuries. Even so, the results offer fresh evidence of how helmets can help protect not just drivers, but also passengers, when there’s a motorcycle crash, said Jacob Sunshine, a researcher at the University of Washington in Seattle who wasn’t involved in the study. “The primary take-away from this study is that motorcycle helmets significantly reduce head and neck injuries in both drivers and passengers,” Sunshine said by email. “Riding motorcycles is more dangerous compared to other modes of transport, and the protective benefits of wearing a motorcycle helmet while riding are clear and have been demonstrated across multiple studies.” (rtr)

DUBLIN - Older adults who develop hearing loss may more likely to experience dementia and cognitive decline than their counterparts without hearing problems, a research review suggests. Researchers examined data from 36 previously published studies with a total of 20,264 participants who underwent both cognitive evaluations and hearing tests. People with age-related hearing loss were up to twice as likely to have cognitive impairment and 2.4 times more apt to have dementia, the study found. “The results provide further evidence that hearing loss may be a risk factor for increased cognitive decline, cognitive impairment and dementia,” said lead study author David Loughrey, a researcher at the School of Medicine at Trinity College in Dublin. About one in three adults from age 65 to 74 have hearing loss, and almost half of people older than 75 have trouble hearing, according to the National Institutes of Health. Age-related hearing loss can lead to a wide variety of health problems, as it touches on many aspects of daily life, making it harder for people to keep up with conversations, maintain a normal social life and follow a doctor’s advice about other chronic medical problems. While some previous studies have linked age-related hearing loss to dementia, results have been mixed, Loughrey said by email. For the current analysis, researchers only included studies that tested hearing with “pure-tone audiometry,” the gold standard for assessing structural

hearing problems. Previous studies have indicated that age-related hearing loss may be a risk factor for dementia. However, results from individual studies have been inconsistent, with some studies reporting a small or non-significant association. This may have been due to differences in methods such as the type of hearing assessment used. It’s not clear how age-related hearing loss and cognitive decline are related, and the study wasn’t a controlled experiment designed to answer this question. “A possibility is that hearing loss causes cognitive decline through the increased mental energy required to perceive speech, leaving fewer resources available for other cognitive processes, such as memory,” Loughrey said. “Additionally, research suggests that factors such as loss of mental stimulation, depression or loneliness may be associated with a higher risk of dementia.” The study found a small but statistically meaningful association between hearing loss and a variety of cognitive abilities including executive function, memory, processing speed and what’s known as visuospatial ability, or detecting where things are in a room or on a page. Hearing aids may have some protective effect, the new analysis suggested. So-called vascular risk factors like smoking or having high blood pres-

sure or diabetes might help explain declines in some cognitive skills, but hearing loss was still associated with cognitive decline and dementia even after accounting for vascular risk factors. Shifts in behavior that can accompany both hearing loss and cognitive impairment may explain the link found in the study said Dr. Francesco Panza, author of an accompanying editorial and neuroscience researcher at the University of Bari Aldo Moro in Italy. “Behavioral mechanisms may explain these associations, such as the withdrawal of older adults from situations in which they may have difficulty hearing and communicating, which may contribute to the development of social isolation, loneliness, and consequent cognitive decline,” Panza said by email. “Furthermore, several factors and diseases associated with frailty are also related to cognitive impairment, including nutritional factors, metabolic disorders, inflammatory markers, hormones, diabetes, congestive heart failure, and stroke,” Panza added. Regardless of the reasons for this connection, the study findings suggest that older adults should get routine hearing checks. “If someone is experiencing hearing loss or has any concerns, it is advised that they check with a medical professional or an audiologist,” Loughrey said. A local farmer, I Made Artana, said on Monday (Dec. 11) that his chili plants absolutely dried out due to bad weather plus the exposure to volcanic ashes from eruption of Mount Agung since two weeks ago. On that condition, he is forced to harvest chili earlier. “As a result of the exposure to volcanic ashes, some pieces of chili are rotten and fall out. So, I harvest the good chilies early before all chilies perish,” he said. Considering the plants can no longer survive, he decided to remove the chili

plants having dried out. The area of chili plants withdrawn reached some hectares. “I plant about 12,000 chili plants. And almost all the chili fruits have been damaged. I have not had time to harvest before and this is the first fruit,” he said. He added the current price of chili on the market is quite expensive reaching IDR 18,000 per kg. Upon this condition, he suffered losses up to tens of millions of rupiahs. “I have resigned to this condition. Hopefully, there is attention from the government,” said Made Arnata. (kmb41)

Denpasar Court rejects pretrial of Bank of India’s president director suspect

DENPASAR — Denpasar District Court rejected the pre-trial lawsuit filed by Ningsih Suciati, former President Director of Bank of India (formerly Bank Swadesi), against Bali Police on Tuesday (Dec. 12). The sole judge Ketut Suarta when reading the verdict stated the action of Bali Police stipulating President Director of Bank of India, Ningsih Suciati, as the suspect in the case of No. Pol. LP233 / VI / 2011 / Bali / Dit Reskrim, dated June 25, 2011, is lawful. Therefore, the Denpasar District Court ordered Bali Police to resume the investigation and develop the case files of the suspect Ningsih Suciati, et.al on Banking Crimes in appropriate with Article 49 paragraph 1 and 2. As previously reported, Ningsih Suciati has been named a suspect since 2011 who pre-trialed the Bali Police to Denpasar District Court. In the pretrial letter dated October 25, 2017, Ningsih judged the decision of Bali Police naming her a suspect related to the allegation of Banking Crime is not valid. It is noteworthy that in the legal matter of the pretrial of Ningsih, there is an element deliberately transferred into a legal issue of the bank SID where the fact is not the subject matter reported by the victim (the transfer of legal issues).

Pretrial lawsuit of Ningsih in the Denpasar Court is considered strange and awkward because determination of her status as a suspect was due to the decision or determination of the Denpasar District Court some time ago that granted pre-trial lawsuit conducted by Rita. NEW DELHI - Some 15.6 million abortions take place in India each year, with the majority of women taking pills at home without adequate counselling, a study said on Tuesday, calling for more trained doctors in public hospitals. The New York-based Guttmacher Institute’s research found that abortions are more than 22 times more common than the government’s estimate of less than 700,000 terminations, produced by focusing on state-run hospitals and clinics. Just over 80 percent of abortions took place using drugs like mifepristone and misoprostol, 14 percent were performed surgically in clinics and hospitals, and 5 percent were conducted using other, typically unsafe, methods. “Women in India face considerable challenges trying to obtain abortion care, including the limited availability of abortion services in public health facilities,” the Guttmacher Institute’s investigator Susheela Singh, said in a statement. “Our findings suggest that a shortage of trained staff and inadequate supplies and equipment are the primary reasons many public facilities don’t provide abortion care,” she said of the study, published in the Lancet Global Health journal. SYDNEY - Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on Wednesday his government’s future was at risk if it lost a Sydney by-election this weekend and failed to regain its one-seat majority, forcing it to rely on independents to survive in power. Turnbull’s conservative voter base in the harbourside seat of Bennelong, usually a safe blue-ribbon seat, has collapsed, according to an opinion poll on Tuesday. The Newspoll in The Australian newspaper said Turnbull’s Liberal-National coalition and the opposition Labor each have a 50 percent chance of winning on a two-party preferred vote, with Liberal voters deserting to a newly formed conservative party. “It is a tight race. It is very high cost. If Labor were to win in Bennelong, then (Labor leader) Bill Shorten would be very close to becoming prime minister,” Turnbull told reporters in Sydney. If Turnbull loses Bennelong, it would only take the loss of support from key independents in a vote of no confidence to see his minority government topple. Centre-left Labor has not held power since 2013. Turnbull has led a minority government since October after his deputy prime minister was forced to quit parliament for holding dual citizenship. These places are said to be the place of people doing Himsa Karma every day. Therefore, the places must get the offerings. “In harmony with the progress of time, all the properties owned are also offered with the saiban offerings such as motorcycles, TVs and cars considering that it is not only natures that can help people achieve prosperity. The equipment also greatly helps people achieve worldly prosperity.” Jero Mangku added that talking about nature is the same as talking about this whole universe, including all of His creation. In other words, offering sacrifice to nature is the same as offering to all the creations of God like the bhuta-bhuti. He reminded that such yadnya sesa should be implemented every day. For Hindu community that has not implemented this yadnya should start it immediately. He assessed that people’s awareness in implementing yadnya sesa is still considered lacking. Apart from their decorative aspects, these banners also have spiritual meaning and provide protection. Balinese humanist, and former rector of ISI Denpsar (1981-1997), Prof. Dr. I Made Bandem, explains that these ritual paraphernalia are important in religious processions like ngunya, ngelawang (gallivanting street show) and melasti and are used in accordance with time, place and circumstance as well as the scale of the ritual, whether large, medium or small. He added that in the past these objects were the property of kingdoms and were used to show or display the majesty of a kingdom. In modern times such paraphernalia are used when escorting the deities. Indirectly, they contains meaningful philosophy related to showing off the beauty, greatness and grandeur of the deities that are venerated by the community. “All ritual paraphernalia including the bandrang (spears), banners, kober (flags) and so forth are be-

lieved to serve as both phyical and spiritual protectors. The use of these objects is also related to the Balinese Hindu community’s respect for local venerated deities”, explained Prof. Bandem. While serving as a means to show respect for the deities, these ojects are also based on the values of Hindu philosophy. Dr. I Gusti Made Ngurah, Chairman of the Sabha Budaya Hindu Bali Foundation said that in the Purana and Itihasa scriptures bandrang are mentioned as being an ordinary spear embellished with feathers symbolizing the power of Lord Brahma, while banners symbolize the power of Lord Vishnu and kober -especially when they bear the image of Hanuman Maruti (son of Lord Bayu) symbolize strength. Due to the forces of such symbols, they are used in combinations with hope of producing balance. Ngurah added that the use of kober with the image of Dewata Nawa Sanga (gods of the nine directions) has become a necessity for the Hindu community of Bali and represents something about the arrival of Hindu religious teachings to Bali. This symbol also represents the the concept of Sarwa Dewata or Sarwa Samudaya which translates as something like ‘the god amounting to more than one’. The nine gods represented in the Dewata Nawa Sanga are each equipped with their own are each equipped with their own weapons as manifestations for their receptive powers. “The use of bandrang, banners, kober and so on are important for their philosophical meanings but also as a sign that a ritual is being held in a particular location” added Gusti Made Ngurah. UK’s May faces parliamentary showdown with Brexit rebels

LONDON - Prime Minister Theresa May’s control of the Brexit process will undergo its stiffest parliamentary test yet on Wednesday, when she faces a showdown with rebels in her party over the laws that will take Britain out of the European Union. May’s government is trying to pass a bill through parliament that will repeal the 1972 legislation binding Britain to the EU and copy existing EU law into domestic law to ensure legal continuity after ‘Exit Day’ on March 29, 2019. After six days of debate in parliament ranging from the legal minutiae of Brexit to the gaping differences between ‘Remainers’ and ‘Leavers’, May could face a defeat as lawmakers demand more say over the final exit deal. Wednesday’s likely flashpoint is an amendment put forward by a member of May’s own party, the government’s former attorney general, Dominic Grieve, who wants parliament to have a meaningful vote on any deal before it is finalised. If passed by a simple majority vote, the amendment would require parliament to approve the government’s final Brexit deal by passing a separate written law once the terms of the withdrawal agreement are known. That could allow lawmakers to send May back to the negotiating table if they do not like the deal. The opposition Labour Party has said it will support the amendment, with some believing it would give lawmakers a greater chance to reopen talks - something that might not be supported by EU negotiators. Grieve said on Wednesday that he did not want to “sabotage” Brexit, but to make sure parliament was allowed to play its role of holding government to account. “My impression of the last few days, when I’ve been talking to the government, is it seems to be a bit of a dialogue of the deaf. They’ve sort of turned this into a battle of wills,” he told Sky News. “This is a completely pointless exercise. They need to listen to the point that’s being made and they need to respond to it.” May is in a precarious position. In June, she gambled on a snap election to strengthen her party’s majority in the 650-seat parliament but instead bungled her campaign and ended up with a minority government propped up by the 10 votes of a small, pro-Brexit Northern Irish party. Since then she has struggled to assert her authority over a Conservative Party which is deeply divided over the best route out of the EU. The government has said it is listening to parliament’s concerns and has conceded that a separate piece of legislation, allowing members of parliament (MPs) more say on the deal, would be necessary. The government is planning to pass another bill once the final Brexit deal with Brussels is agreed which will implement the terms of the withdrawal agreement. Realization of village funds reaches Rp59.2 trillion

BOGOR - The realization of village funds in the year ending on November 11, 2017 reached Rp59.2 trillion, which comes close to the government target of Rp60 trillion set in the revised 2017 state budget, an official said. “The realization of village funds until the end of this year will not reach 100 percent due to an obstacle to the transfer of funds from regional general cash accounts to village cash accounts,” Director General of Balanced Finance of the Finance

The realization of village funds is sourced from the transfer of village funds from state general cash account to regional general cash accounts at Rp35.8 trillion for 74,910 villages or 99.5 percent of the first phase of distribution target of Rp36 trillion, he said. trillion for 73,051 villages or 97.3 percent of the second phase of distribution target of Rp24 trillion, he said. The name depicts the history of the founder namely guests originating from Tegal Badung. of Tegaltamu Palace. Along with the development of Bali tourism, Tegaltamu Palace has been opened as a culturebased tourist destination since 1998 though it has become a tourist destination since the 1970s. CALIFORNIA - Social media users have told American skier Lindsey Vonn they hoped she broke her neck after the Olympic champion made comments they deemed to be critical of U.S. President Donald Trump, she said on Tuesday. The 33-year-old said in an interview last week that she wanted to “represent the people of United States not the President”, at February’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, which had sparked a backlash on social media. “It is hurtful to read comments where people are hoping I break my neck or that God is punishing me for being ‘anti-Trump,’” Vonn said in a post on Instagram on Tuesday. Vonn, the most successful female World Cup alpine skier of all time, added she was trying to make the point during her CNN interview that Olympic athletes represent their nation and not any specific political party or individual. Trump, who is often quick to respond to criticism from high-profile people, has not yet weighed in on Vonn’s comments.

Vonn, who won gold in the downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Games but missed the 2014 Games in Sochi due to injury, said people overseas were perplexed at the way the U.S. had changed. “You cannot pick up a newspaper or turn on the TV in Europe without noticing how people are questioning our direction,” she said. “It seems to me that we must lead with understanding and strive for unity in our relationships throughout the world.” The reaction to her comments had also illustrated how divided the country was, she said. “We need to find a way to put aside our differences and find common ground in communicating,” Vonn added. “Is it wrong to hope for a better world? All of this is much bigger than skiing and the Olympics. “I am going to take the next two months to focus on what I can do and right now that is competing for my country. UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) said in a statement that Fury, who was charged with the offence in June 2016 after testing positive for a banned steroid in February 2015, would complete his ban at midnight on Tuesday. Fury, whose last fight was two years ago when he beat Wladimir Klitschko to claim the WBA, IBF and WBO belts, blamed the failed test on eating uncastrated wild boar. UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control said Fury is free to fight again once he regains his boxing license. A second charge against Fury over his “alleged failure to provide a sample in September 2016” has been withdrawn. Fury’s cousin Hughie, also a heavyweight, reached a similar agreement after he also tested positive in February 2015. The 29-year-old Tyson, who has a 25-0 record, issued a statement saying he would reclaim the title. “I’m a fighting man through and through and I’ve never backed down from anyone in my life and I was certainly not going to back down from fighting this dispute,” he said.

“Hughie and I have maintained our innocence from day one and we’re now happy that it has finally been settled with UKAD and that we can move forward knowing that we’ll not be labelled drug cheats. “I can now put the nightmare of the last two years behind me. Next year I will be back doing what I do best, better than ever and ready to reclaim the world titles which are rightfully mine. It’s time to get the party started.” Fury vacated his titles and his boxing license was suspended in October 2016 pending investigation after he admitted to consuming cocaine and dealing with mental health issues. UKAD said in a statement that a compromise had been reached. “In recognition of the retrospective counter-arguments and the risks inherent in the dispute resolution process, each side has accepted a compromise of its position,” UKAD said. “The proceedings have therefore been resolved on the following basis: the anti-doping rule violations based on the reported presence of elevated levels of nandrolone metabolites are upheld.” While a controversial figure, Fury’s return and a possible title fight with British world champion Anthony Joshua would be a mouthwatering prospect for the division.
