As a lost child unable to remember where his home is, Saroo is put up for adoption and taken in by an Australian couple. Years later as a grown man living a successful life in Australia, Saroo tries to find his family using

satellite images from Google Earth and confronts new challenges as his past life collides with his present. Australian actress Kidman, 49, who adopted two children with her ex-husband, actor Tom Cruise, said that was the reason she was drawn to play Sue Brierley, Saroo’s adopted mother. “I was drawn to her and she wanted me to play her, which I loved,” Kidman said. “I still wanted every moment

that was on screen to be full of her story and her truth ... and that’s almost harder than being the lead because it’s trying to put all of those complicated emotions and ideas into small scenes,” she added. Patel praised Kidman’s performance, saying “her performances come from a very authentic place and to share the screen with her really was a blessing.” The 26-year-old London actor said he spent eight months preparing for the role and learning the Australian accent. “I started off a bit Crocodile Dundee I think and then I had to be reigned in,” he quipped. Not to mention when talking about quality and their ability to provide agricultural products sustainably. “In Bali, we have agricultural products that should be able to be absorbed very optimally in tourism sector. For example, we have a hotel equipped with a restaurant, coffee shop and bar. Actually we have all the ingredients of the products sold in this tourism sector,” said Gede Wira, Chief of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Bali.

Thailand’s King Bhumibol, world’s longest reigning monarch, dies at 88

BANGKOK - King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died peacefully on Thursday, was the world’s longest-reigning monarch, credited with restoring the influence of Thailand’s royalty during 70 years on the throne and earning the devotion of many of his subjects. For the majority of the country’s 68 million people, the king was a pillar of stability in rapidly changing times - Thailand embraced industrialisation during his reign but also saw its parliamentary democracy punctuated by 10 military coups, the most recent in May 2014. King Bhumibol, who ascended the throne on June 9, 1946, was seen as a force for unity, and there have long been concerns that the political tensions that have riven Thailand over the past decade could

worsen after his death. That may be less likely under the regime of the leader of the most recent coup, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha. The former general has held a tight grip on power since toppling the

remnants of Thailand’s last democratic government in 2014. “His Majesty has passed away at Siriraj Hospital peacefully,” the palace said in a statement on Thursday, adding he died at 15:52 (0852 GMT). Thailand has been divided for years between the royalist establishment and the red-shirted supporters of exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a 2006 coup. Telecommunications billionaire Thaksin, now in self-exile, built up a powerful patronage network that competed for power and opportunity with Thailand’s old-money order.

POOR HEALTH The king had been in poor health for some time, and has spent most of the past six years in Bangkok’s Siriraj hospital. King Bhumibol was re-admitted in May 2015 and was last seen in public in January, when he spent several hours visiting his Bangkok palace. The Royal Household Bureau in its statement on Thursday did not give a reason for the king’s death. The king been treated for a respiratory infection, a build up of fluid surrounding the brain and a swollen lung in the past few months. From illuminated billboards in bustling Bangkok to portraits in

offices and millions of rural homes, Thailand is festooned with images of the jazz-loving king. King Bhumibol headed a conservative establishment that still wields considerable power 84 years after the abolition of absolute monarchy.

There should be a concrete movement to bring together the seven components mentioned above either farmers, academicians in technology development and facilitation, and government as regulator or policy maker with the entrepreneurs engaged in tourism. Besides, all the components and users in the tourism field could sit together through an activity. For instance, it can be arranged through cooking contest taking advantage of local agricultural raw materials. Through this contest, the academician can provide feedback to improve the quality of the local agricultural products. On the other side, farmers can get information about the agricultural products needed by tourism sector including its continuity. Academician from Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, I Ketut Suada, said that the role of Kadin Bali is very much required to channel the agricultural products of farmers. When associated with

the supply of agricultural products to hotels, Kadin is also expected to provide information. Primarily it is related to agricultural products required by hotels and how many should be prepared by farmers. “So, when there has been the role of private sector, farmers will automatically merge in the groups yielding the products required,” he said. Suada added, when there has been information and the assurance of good price, farmers will certainly seek to produce. Chiefly all this time, farmers are reluctant to supply their agricultural commodities to hotels because the price is not appropriate and settlement of payment takes too long time. “Kadin and local governments have the authority to make policy and regulates it,” he explained. In the meantime, an academician from the Udayana University, Prof. I Made Supartha, Ph.D., said that consumers are now moving from traditional to semi-modern, and even modern market. Foreign travelers can be categorized as a consumer that moves to modern market. In the meantime, domestic travelers are classified into semimodern consumer, and not traditional consumers like the Balinese people. “Now, they not only need freshness, the shape, color as well as eco labeling and food safety certificate. If they have such characteristics, can our agricultural system with small skill fulfill it with traditional

agribusiness system, disintegrated and uncoordinated condition? It’s impossible,” he added. This small skill, continued Supartha, should be changed in future into value chain that can run efficiently and effectively. It is primarily when creating value in tourism sector with modern and semi-modern consumers. Value is not always the matter of quality, but there must be a good service, and minimizing the cost and time.

According to Supartha, the value chain needs to be built in an integrated and coordinated manner. The main activity to be run must have supporting system such as human resources and technology. Although there have been many sophisticated technologies, farmers with ‘small skill’ are not possible to apply the

advanced technology. “We have to innovatively use the technology by adapting to relevant conditions including the production,” he said. Supartha added that the system can only work if there is control system coordinating the farmers. The products precisely come from the area of Bangli district, namely Malet Kuta Mesir hamlet, Tiga, Susut. Souvenir craft has been worked on by some people. This home industry has been able to reduce unemployment. Hamlet chief of Malet Kuta Mesir, I Ketut Redam, said that such wooden souvenir craft has been growing since 1990. People getting involved in it reach almost fifty percent. Other than serving as side job, some residents also make it a primary source of income. The products made are quite varied ranging from key chains, wall

decoration and business card holder to mini calendar. “This sector has become a source of income for many people,” he said recently. Behind its development, marketing of these products in fact can just reach some regions such as Badung and Gianyar. It is still very difficult to realize wider marketing areas. Responding to this, local government has given guidance, but only lasts for a few moments. “Coaching is only done for a few days. Crafters have not yet fully understood but the coaching already stopped. Hopefully, this can last sustainably. Moreover, younger generation has begun to get involved. This is quite important,” he said. Crafters also need to be given guidance ranging from the creation of products to finishing. All this time, the products taken by col-

lectors from Gianyar region are in half-finished condition. Indirectly it has an impact on the selling price. “Our products are taken in halffinished. There (in Gianyar—Ed) is resumed with finishing. Having been sold to guests, it is claimed as their own product. Actually, the products are made here (Malet Kuta Mesir—Ed),” said Redam. Other than souvenirs, some people of the hamlet close to Tampaksiring also make woven bamboo wall. Its design is quite complicated and has its own characteristics. The quality is not inferior to products of other regions. The selling price ranges from IDR 60,000 to IDR 70,000 per square meter. “The price depends on the motif. Hundreds of children join Ngerebeg tradition at Tegallalang

GIANYAR -Ngerebeg tradition in a series of piodalan or temple anniversary of Duur Bingin Temple at Tengah hamlet, Tegallalang, was held on Wednesday (Oct. 12). Uniquely, in the implementation of this tradition, it was followed by hundreds of children from seven hamlets in Tegallalang village having adorned themselves with various colors and knick-knacks. From Wednesday afternoon around 11:00, one by one local boys with a variety of ornaments have thronged the Duur Bingin Temple. This is done as preparation for the implementation of the Ngerebeg ritual. Until 12:00 shortly after the boys gather in the innermost temple courtyard, a series of the Ngerebeg ceremonies preparation was performed. MANGUPURA - When taking photo on the beach in front the Hotel Inaya Putri Bali, a foreign tourist saw a floating corpse on Wednesday (Oct. 12). Characteristics of the corpse are having the height of 174 centimeters, weight of 87 kilograms, a golden molar and only putting on gray shorts. According to Denpasar Police officer, the discovery of the corpse occurred at 06:40, precisely in front of the lifeguard post and suspected of being a foreign national. A staff of the Hotel Inaya, I Nyoman Astika, told that initially he heard the cry of tourists who were taking photos while watching sunrise. The tourist informed there was a floating corpse on the beach. Twenty minutes later, two lifeguards came and immediately pulled the corpse to the shore. In the meantime, the lifeguard officer, Ketut Suradnyana, 53, said that he could check the victim’s body but was already dead. The victim’s corpse was then taken to Sanglah Hospital by lifeguard van. “The victim is suspected of drowning and the identity is still unrevealed,” said another officer asking for anonymity. Chief of Denpasar Water Police, Ketut Suparta, when asked for his confirmation justified the finding of the corpse. China urges Australia to be “cautious” on South China Sea

BEIJING - China hopes that Australia acts and speaks with caution on the South China Sea and that its words and actions on the matter match each other, a senior Chinese officer told the visiting head of the Australian Defence Force. Australia, a staunch U.S. ally, has previously drawn criticism from China for running surveillance flights over disputed islands in the South China Sea and supporting U.S. freedom of navigation exercises there. DHAKA - Bangladesh’s safety inspectors twice extended an operating licence at a food and cigarette packaging plant in the capital Dhaka without making physical checks. That breach of rules is now being investigated by the government after a fire at the Tampaco Foils factory killed at least 39 people last month. The cause of the Sept. 10 blaze, the country’s worst industrial accident since the 2013 Rana Plaza tragedy in which more than 1,100 mostly garment workers died, is unknown. The plant’s owner, a former member of parliament, has gone missing. Flammable materials stored on the factory floor, a gas leak, excessive use of gas and poorly positioned boilers are all being looked at as possible reasons. Syed Ahmed, head of the department charged with inspecting factories and commercial buildings, said his inspectors should have visited Tampaco before renewing its licence, but did not, partly because of a shortage of staff. “If we could have inspected the factory, then we may have noticed and could have taken action on those shortcomings, and this could have averted disaster,” Ahmed told Reuters. He said the department had launched an internal review to identify who was responsible for signing the documents. Interviews with Ahmed and more than 20 regulators, investigators, technicians and witnesses involved in the fire at the factory reveal a lack of oversight that the government is scrambling to fix. While inspections of plants making clothes for global brands have increased significantly since Rana Plaza - many carried out by or on behalf of Western companies - other sectors that also supply international firms have had less attention. “This disaster has opened our eyes to the fact that we must also focus on other factories,” Ahmed said. SUKABUMI - At least 23 pregnant women in the West Java city of Sukabumi have been infected with HIV as of September 2016, according to the local AIDS Control Commission (KPA). “Women or housewives are vulnerable to HIV. Tyson Fury celebrates winning the fight

LONDON - Tyson Fury’s troubled 11th month reign as world heavyweight champion came to an end on Thursday when the British boxer announced he would be vacating his WBO and WBA titles “to fully focus on his medical treatment and recovery”. The 28-year-old has not fought since beating Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko to win the titles in November 2015 and has since admitted taking cocaine to battle depression. Fury has twice called off a fight against Klitschko, in July because of an ankle injury and last month for an unspecified medical condition, and also briefly retired from the sport. “I feel that it is only fair and right and for the good of boxing to keep the titles active and allow the other contenders to fight for the vacant belts that I proudly won and held as the undefeated heavyweight champion of the world ...” Fury said in statement released by his promoter Mick Hennessy. “I won the titles in the ring and I believe that they should be lost in the ring, but I’m unable to defend at this time and I have taken the hard and emotional decision to now officially vacate my treasured world titles “(I) wish the next in-line contenders all

the very best as I now enter another big challenge in my life which I know, like against Klitschko, I will conquer.” Tyson’s points victory over Klitschko in Duesseldorf, Germany at the end of November last year was one of the biggest upsets in the long history of heavyweight boxing. It was a first defeat for Klitschko in 11 years and the now 40-year-old Ukrainian immediately demanded a re-match. Klitschko expressed his frustration after Fury called off a fight for the second time last month and last week accused the Briton of “dragging boxing through the mud”. At the start of October, ESPN reported Fury had tested positive for cocaine, citing a leaked letter sent by the Voluntary AntiDoping Agency (VADA) which Reuters has been unable to verify. A couple of days later, Fury announced his retirement in an expletive-laden tweet, only to abruptly reverse the decision hours later, saying he planned to carry on fighting. In an interview with Rolling Stone published on Oct. 4, Fury admitted to drinking heavily and using cocaine to help him deal with depression, saying he had been diagnosed as “manic depressive”. Lionel Messi, having reversed his decision to quit international soccer with a view to playing at another World Cup, could miss out on Russia 2018 if Argentina continue their downward spiral. Argentina played poorly in their last three qualifiers without the injured Messi and languish in fifth place in the South American group with Paraguay and Chile hot on their tails. Only four countries are guaranteed a place at the finals. Midfield general Javier Mascherano was under no illusions when he said: “It’s clear the team need to react, and it’s not their attitude -- there’s plenty of that -- but in terms of their game.” Unable to compensate for Messi’s absence despite a pool of players with big reputations in European club football, Argentina were jeered and whistled by their fans after Tuesday’s humiliating 1-0 home defeat by Paraguay in Cordoba. It is the first time Argentina have lost two home matches in a qualifying campaign, having also started on the wrong foot with a 2-0 defeat by Ecuador in Buenos Aires a year ago. “We lost (on Tuesday), because the team never found answers in either of the two matches,” said Mascherano, referring to both the Paraguay defeat and last week’s 2-2 draw with Peru in Lima. “The (poor) football ends up affecting your state of mind. I’m very worried.” Argentina face a tough double-header next month, playing away to a fast-improving Brazil, who lead the group after a run of four wins, before hosting Colombia. And they will need their talisman if they are to stop the rot. Argentina have picked up more points in the three qualifiers that Messi played -- all wins -- than in the other seven. Wenger, Mourinho driven by hatred of losing - Cech

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho have often clashed off the field but Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech believes the pair share a common trait -- a hatred of defeat -- as motivation for success. COPENHAGEN - A group of leading clubs from counties including Denmark, Scotland and the Netherlands are in talks to create a new transEuropean soccer league in response to recent proposals to change the format of the Champions League. In August UEFA announced a series of changes to the Champions League from 2018, including guaranteeing a place for the top four clubs in the four top-ranked associations to leave only 16 spots for the rest of the continent.

FC Copennhagen, the current Danish league leaders, confirmed to Reuters on Thursday that talks about the formation of a new league were ongoing. “Yes, it’s correct. If we don’t act now, we will see the biggest clubs grow bigger and stronger, while clubs like ours will have increasingly difficult terms,” Copenhagen’s managing director Anders Horsholt told local newspaper BT. Horsholt suggested that teams playing in the new league might have to
