Protests over river water dispute turn violent in Indian IT hub BENGALURU - India’s technology hub of Bengaluru deployed riot police on Monday to rein in protests as a water dispute turned violent, with cars and buses set of fire and people pelted with stones.

However, those really committing suicide are indeed caused by a mental disorder. There also happened due to a personality disorder making them emotionally unstable. Mental disorders experienced are in the form of depression with deep and long grief and severe mental disorders such as psychotic and schizophrenic. “There are hallucinations, delusions and sound heard making them pessimistic and commit suicide,” he explained. Wayang wong still exists amid the onslaught of time BANGLI —

Wayang wong is one of the Balinese traditional dramas. As the name implies, the show performed by several dancers presents the wayang or puppet stories. Although this art has existed since the fourteenth century and developed during the days of Waturenggong administration, until now the wayang wong remains to exist and survive amid the onslaught of modern time. An artist of wayang wong from Sulahan, Susut, I Dewa Gede Bakti, said on Saturday (Sep. 10) that based on its genre the wayang wong belongs to bebali (semi sacred) art. Wayang wong is usually performed at temples in relation to religious ceremonies. Based on its storyline, the wayang wong is divided into two, namely the Ramayana and the parwa. Wayang wong of Ramayana is a puppet show whose storyline is taken from the Ramayana epic, while the parwa tells about the storyline of Mahabharata epic. Typically, the parwa dancers do not use the property like mask as found in the wayang wong of Ramayana. Further he explained that in the show the dancers of wayang wong makes bilingual conversations namely in Old Javanese and Balinese language. Old Javanese language is spoken by the dancers playing the main characters, while Balinese language is spoken by dancers portraying as clown. “Clown is the most difficult role. Apart from having to make jokes, he must also serve as an interpreter,” he explained. According to this artist who is also the Secretary in the Bangli Culture and Tourism Agency,

though wayang wong has existed since the days of Waturenggong administration, until now he recognized that the art still exists. It is evident from the persistence of wayang wong in temple ceremonies at several villages in Bangli. Moreover, he had confidence that wayang wong will remain to persist considering at several villages the property used in wayang wong performance like masks are sanctified and danced in the implementation of ceremony. “At Sulahan village, for instance, the wayang wong is still staged because the masks are sanctified by local residents,” he explained. Nevertheless, Dewa Bakti recognized that it is quite difficult to regenerate the wayang wong dancer in several villages. Ordinarily the current younger generation is rarely interested in learning this art because is it hard to learn the languages, namely the Old Javanese and Balinese language. “Thankfully younger generation at Sulahan village has quite high interest in becoming the successors of wayang wong dancers, so that wayang wong can remain to survive until these days,” he said. NASA probe blasts off on quest to collect asteroid samples

CAPE CANAVERAL - An Atlas 5 rocket blasted off from Florida on Thursday carrying a robot space probe on NASA’s first quest to collect samples from an asteroid and return them to Earth in hopes of learning more about the origins of life. The 19-story rocket, built and flown for NASA by United Launch Alliance, lifted off at 7:05 p.m. (2305 GMT) from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, hurling the satellite explorer Osiris-Rex on its voyage to the near-Earth asteroid Bennu. The 3,300-pound (1,500-kg) solar-powered probe separated from the rocket’s upper stage an hour after blastoff, soaring into space at 22,000 mph (35,400 kph) - more than 28 times the speed of sound - to begin its $1 billion, seven-year mission. It will take Osiris-Rex two years to reach its destination, a dark, rocky mass roughly a third of a mile wide and shaped like a giant acorn orbiting the sun at roughly the same distance as Earth. Bennu is thought to be covered with organic compounds dating back to the earliest days of the solar system. “You can think of these asteroids as literally prebiotic chemical factories that were producing building

blocks of life 4.5 billion years ago, before Earth formed, before life started here,” NASA astrobiologist Daniel Glavin said before launch. Scientists believe asteroids and comets crashing into early Earth delivered water and organic compounds that seeded the planet for life. Atomic-level analysis of samples from Bennu could help them prove that theory. Once it settles into orbit around Bennu in 2018, Osiris-Rex will spend up to two more years mapping the asteroid’s surface and taking inventory of its chemical and mineral composition. Scientists will ultimately choose a promising site on Bennu to sample and command OsirisRex to fly close enough to extend its robot arm to the asteroid’s surface. A sampling container will then release a swirl of nitrogen gas, which will stir up gravel and soil for collection. “The more big pieces we can get the better ... they could contain the carbon molecules that we

want to see,” Jim Garvin, chief scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, said on NASA TV. After gathering at least 2 ounces (60 grams) of material, Osiris-Rex will fly back to Earth, jettisoning a capsule bearing the asteroid-sample container for a parachute descent and landing in the Utah desert in September 2023. Only one other spacecraft, Japan’s Hayabusa, has previously returned samples from an asteroid to Earth, but it collected less than a milligram of material because of a series of problems. A follow-on mission, Hayabusa 2, is under way, with a return to Earth planned for December 2020. The U.S. space agency also hopes Osiris-Rex will demonstrate the advanced imaging and mapping techniques needed for future science missions and for upcoming commercial asteroidmining expeditions. CAPE CANAVERAL - SpaceX founder and chief Elon Musk said on Friday he was unsure why one of the company’s Falcon rockets burst into flames on its Florida launch pad last week, destroying both the rocket and an Israeli communications satellite it was due to lift into orbit. “Still working on the Falcon fireball investigation. Turning out to be the most difficult and complex failure we have ever had in 14 years,” Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur who is also the chief executive of Telsa Motors, wrote on Twitter. A SpaceX-led accident investigation is underway, overseen by the Federal Aviation Administration’s Commercial Space Transportation office. A massive fireball enveloped the rocket on Sept. 1 as it was being fueled for a routine test of its first stage. The rocket was scheduled to blast off two days later. The rocket’s nine engines had not yet ignited for a test firing when a fireball engulfed the upper stage. “There was no apparent heat source,” Musk said on Friday. The accident destroyed the $200 million communications satellite owned by Israel-based Space Communication, which was going to be used by Facebook and Eutelsat to expand internet access in Africa. Hawthorne, California-based SpaceX has not yet said how much damage was done to its launch pad, located at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. SpaceX has backlog of more than 70 launches for commercial and government customers, worth more than $10 billion. The rocket that was destroyed was the second of 29 Falcon 9 rockets to fail. It took SpaceX about three weeks to identify the likely cause of its previous accident, which occurred on June 28, 2015. The problem was traced to a faulty bracket, which was holding a bottle of helium inside the rocket’s upper stage. When the strut broke about two minutes after liftoff, the upper-stage liquid oxygen tank over-pressurized and ruptured, triggering an explosion. SpaceX replaced thousands of struts throughout its fleet and had successfully flown nine times before last week’s failure. “We remain fully confident in the results of (that) investigation ... The current investigation has no bearing on this,” SpaceX spokesman Dex Torricke-Barton wrote in an email to Reuters. SpaceX’s next flight had been slated for later this month from a second launch pad at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. “We have confidence that SpaceX will resolve the matter and when they do we will be ready to launch,” SpaceX’s customer, Iridium Communications Inc, told Reuters on Friday. SpaceX said last week it was looking to shift its Florida launches to a nearly completed pad at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, adjacent to its Cape Canaveral site. (rtr)

BEIRUT - Government troops and insurgents fought in several parts of Syria on Sunday, apparently seeking to strengthen their positions on the eve of a ceasefire that Free Syrian Army rebels said they would observe but with major reservations. LONDON - Fears of an imminent U.S. rate rise along with higher bond yields in developed markets hit emerging assets on Monday, with the main equity index tumbling 2.5 percent and currencies weakening against the dollar. U.S. and German 10-year yields were at the highest in 2-1/2 months, rising further after Friday’s spike caused by speculation the U.S. Federal Reserve could move interest rates this month, instead of December as markets had reckoned. With U.S. stocks falling around 2 percent on Friday, emerging markets, like other riskier assets, felt the heat. TOKYO - The dollar began the week on the back foot on Monday as a bout of risk aversion underpinned the yen, though losses were limited as the U.S. currency garnered some support on renewed talk of a possible rate hike by the Federal Reserve as early as this month. The safe-haven yen benefited from a broad drop in equities, with Tokyo’s Nikkei slipping to a two-week low. The dollar was down 0.3 percent at 102.445 yen, while the euro slipped 0.2 percent to 115.15 yen. The currency market also kept an eye on the sell-off in global bonds, with perceived limits to central bank policies having taken German and Japanese sovereign bond yields to multi-month highs. NEW YORK - Hillary Clinton is suffering from pneumonia, the Democratic presidential candidate’s personal doctor said on Sunday after she fell ill at a Sept. 11 memorial, an episode that renewed focus on her health less than two months before the election. Clinton canceled a trip she was scheduled to take to California on Monday for fundraising and other campaign events, an aide said, declining to provide further details about her schedule for the week. Clinton, 68, was diagnosed on Friday but her condition only came to light several hours after a video on social media appeared to show her swaying and her knees buckling before being helped into a motorcade as she left the memorial early Sunday. Clinton had a medical examination when she got back to her home in Chappaqua, New York, according to a campaign aide. ZURICH - UEFA elects a new president on Wednesday whose main task will be to stop what European officials say is an inexorable slide towards a breakaway soccer Super League open only to wealthy clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City. Aleksander Ceferin, a lawyer from Slovenia, and Dutchman Michael van Praag, an experienced football administrator, are the only candidates for a job which will essentially involve keeping European football intact in its current form. The election, which will be held in Athens, has been called after former president Michel Platini was banned last October as FIFA’s ethics committee investigated allegations of unethical conduct. Platini, banned for four years, finally resigned in May after exhausting the appeal process and the power vacuum allowed the big clubs to negotiate changes to the flagship Champions League in their favour. Those were finalised last month when UEFA opened up more places to teams from Europe’s biggest four leagues -- effectively Spain, England, Germany and Italy -- in the competition’s lucrative group stage and cut those allocated to the rest. Faced with the possibility of the big clubs forming their own Super League, UEFA said it had managed to “keep it in the family” but the move infuriated many clubs and leagues from outside the main countries. Both candidates criticised the way in which the Champions League changes were made. However, as so often happens in the secretive world of soccer

politics where officials like to keep their options close to their chests, they were cagey on whether they would try to reverse the changes if elected. “There needs to be a far stronger balance between sporting merit and commercial pressures, otherwise we risk an inexorable slide towards an NFL-style closed-shop system,” said Neil Doncaster, CEO of the Scottish league. “UEFA has a duty to act on behalf of the entire game, not just a few, select clubs and leagues and it must take that duty far more seriously if it is not to risk presiding over a harmful fragmentation of the game.” Dutch league director Jacco Swart even predicted a worldwide league in the next few years, driven by “TV markets, huge sponsors, branding and marketing”. The gap between the richest clubs and the rest has continued to grow over the last few years, fuelled by a revenue distribution system which dishes out larger sums to the bigger clubs and creates a snowball effect. During the last European transfer window, Manchester United spent more on midfielder Paul Pogba -- 100 million euros -- than the combined transfer expenditure of Portugal’s 16 first division clubs. Both candidates in the election, hailing from smaller nations, have

experienced the differences first hand. Ceferin’s homeland has been represented in the Champions League group stage only twice since 1992 -- both times by Maribor. The 48-year-old appears to be the favourite, although he is little known outside Slovenia. Van Praag, now head of the Dutch FA, is a former chairman of Dutch club Ajax which used to be a major European power but can no longer compete with the financial might of clubs from bigger leagues. Like other once mighty clubs such as Benfica, Ajax has effectively become a feeder club for the big leagues, supplying young talents such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luis Suarez, who both played there earlier in their careers. Insiders say that the new incumbent, who will be in the post until 2019, will need the courage to stand up to the big clubs if he wants to keep the traditional pyramid system, where teams can rise and fall according to their sporting results. Lars-Christer Olsson, head of the umbrella group representing 24 European leagues, said that ultimately sponsors were likely to shy away from a sport which was splintered. “The last thing they want is a split in the market,” he told Reuters. “I think UEFA was afraid for no real reason.”(rtr)

CARSON — Landon Donovan returned to the Los Angeles Galaxy as a second-half substitute, ending his 21-month Major League Soccer retirement, as the hosts beat Orlando City 4-2 on Sunday. Donovan, the top scorer in the history of MLS and the U.S. men’s national team, announced his comeback with the Galaxy three days earlier.
