Page 6
GLENDALE, California — With cartoony posters plastering the walls and toy figures standing at attention on nearly every flat surface, a once ordinary conference room on Disney’s Glendale campus has AP Photo/Walt Disney Company been transformed into the colorful war room for This undated publicity photo released by the Walt Disney Company shows the video game, “Disney Infinity: The Toy Box.” “Disney Infinity.” do stuff like race vehicles, create and play games and construct buildings — cooperatively or alone — as well as go on specific adventures in their own realms. Each toy stores and transmits the character’s history through an “Infinity” reader. The new additions include Sorcerer Mickey from “Fantasia”; Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear from “Toy Story”; Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope from “Wreck-It Ralph”; Phineas and Agent P from “Phineas and Ferb”; Jack Skellington from “The Nightmare Before Christmas”; Rapunzel from “Tangled”; and Anna and Elsa from “Frozen,” a new Disney film set for release Nov. 27. The second infantry joins such previously announced characters as Jack Sparrow, Hector Barbossa and Davy Jones from “Pirates of the Caribbean”; Mike and Sulley from “Monsters University”; Lightning McQueen, Mater and Holley Shiftwell from “Cars”; Mr. Incredible, Violet and Dash from “The Incredibles”; and the Lone Ranger
and Tonto from “The Lone Ranger.” “In the beginning, when we picked our first set of characters, it was more about going around and saying why we wanted those characters to the various groups around the company,” Vignocchi said. “As time went on and the creators began to see what we were doing with ‘Infinity,’ the roles kind of changed a bit, and they started approaching us with excitement.” The game — or platform, as Disney likes to call it — will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U, as well as accessible through Nintendo 3DS and PC, and on tablets and smartphones. The toys work seamlessly between consoles, meaning a Mrs. Incredible figure can go from a PS3 in your living room to the Wii in your friend’s basement with her superpowers intact.

The ambitious project from the company’s interactive division that combines real-life toy figures with virtual worlds. “This is like being in my bedroom,” says “Infinity” executive producer John Vignocchi while bouncing around the space, gleefully showing off concept art, prototypes and a mock-up of a store display. “This is really the most comfortable place where you could talk to me. It’s where every massive fight and every major decision concerning ‘Infinity’ has gone down.” It’s fitting the space has been dubbed the “Infinity” war room because the Walt Disney Co. is readying for a years-long siege — not just a one-time battle — for consumers’ attention with the multi-platform franchise. At its fan-centric D23 Expo on Sunday, Disney unveiled a second wave of characters coming to “Infinity” this fall and winter after it debuts Aug. 18. “Infinity” utilizes real-life toy figures to depict Disney personalities in sprawling virtual locales where those same characters can

TABANAN - The allure of Balian Beach, Lalanglinggah village, Tabanan, is favored by many foreign tourists. One of the attractions they enjoy is surfing. Unfortunately, the tourist arrivals have not been responded with adequate supporting public facilities. Even, the marine debris is found across the shoreline. Such condition surely interferes with the comfort of visitors.
The marine debris around the Balian Beach is a common phenomenon, especially during the rainy season. Jumbles of the marine debris were carried by the overflowing water of the river from the upstream. They varied, but mostly comprised the pieces of wood and twigs. The heaps of the debris filled up the overlay of coastline whereas the beach was visited almost every day by visitors from various countries as a favorite surfing spot. Meanwhile, many tourist accommodations have also been available near the beach. A tourist from Spain, Afakaru, said that Balian Beach was very natural. Even, it
was far from tourist hustles and bustles. However, the beach sanitation lacked of maintenance as besieged by debris. “Local waves are great for surfing. Unfortunately, the debris is quite a lot on the beach,” he said, recently. He hoped the debris could be cleaned up on a regular basis so that it would not interfere with the view and comfort. As the observation of Bali Post, only a few people took care of it by cleaning up. A few people amassed and sold it to antique collectors. Wayan Bawa, 53, a resident of Lalanglinggah village, for instance, did it last week. This guy amassed various
types of wood debris along the coast. A small bag of marine debris was sold for IDR 20,000-IDR 25,000. The wood taken was only of medium size and had unique shape, while the rest was taken advantage for firewood. “After floods, a lot of woods usually scattered around this area,” he said. Bawa and his friends earned a livelihood from the marine debris. He admitted such wood debris regularly occurred when the river floods. Moreover, near the beach lay an estuary of a great river. It was the final destination of the overflowing garbage, then spread away by the waves onto the beach. (kmb30)
