War comes to Westeros as ‘Game of Thrones’ unveils July return
LOS ANGELES - The premiere date of HBO’s medieval fantasy series “Game of Thrones” was announced with fiery fanfare on Thursday, as a block of ice was melted live online to reveal the July 16 start of the new season. More than 100,000 people watched the hour-long Facebook Live stream of a block of ice being melted slowly by blasts of fire. It was interrupted by a few technical difficulties when the stream cut to black. The highly anticipated seventh season of “Game of Thrones,” taglined “The Great War is Here,” has been moved to summer from its usual spring air date this year as filming of the show was delayed to capture scenes of winter for the show’s fictional realm of
Westeros. Emmy-winning “Game of Thrones,” based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” books, follows the epic fantasy of a multi-generational struggle for control of the Iron Throne seat of the Seven Kingdoms. A teaser trailer released by HBO on Thursday shows the crests of the warring families crumbling to ash, with voices of key characters heard speaking phrases from past seasons in a timeline of events that have led to the battle. At the very end, the voice of resurrected Night Watch leader Jon Snow says, “The same thing coming for all of us. There’s only one war that matters. The great war. NEW YORK - Sporting a bleached-blond buzz cut, American actress Kristen Stewart hit the red carpet in New York to promote her new film “Personal Shopper”, saying she hoped to help others by going public about her sexual orientation. The 26-year-old, who used to date her co-star from the “Twilight” film series, Robert Pattinson, made headlines in February when she announced she was gay while hosting the U.S. late night sketch show “Saturday Night Live”. “I always wanted to keep what was mine in private, mine. And then I thought like you know, you open it up a little bit and you can help one or two people, it’s absolutely worth it,” she said on Thursday. “Personal Shopper”, directed by Olivier Assayas, tells the story of Maureen (Stewart), an American woman working in Paris, who is trying to connect with the spirit of her dead brother Lewis. The film has been described as a seductive, mysterious ghost-story, but Assayas said it was simply a coming of age tale. “It’s a character who is in a moment in her life where she has to somehow become herself because she’s just lost her twin brother. So it’s really like a character who is one half of herself and she will gradually rebuild her life and become someone,” Assayas said. EU leaders seek unity as Britain heads for the exit BRUSSELS - Leaders of the European Union agreed the outlines on Friday of a common accord to rally popular and political support for a bloc wracked with division and self-doubt in the wake of Britain’s vote to leave.

Public and pecalang advised not to take selfies on streets during Nyepi
MANGUPURA - During the asceticism of Nyepi (Day of Silence), the people of Kuta are being asked to set a good example and not take selfies in the middle of the empty strees. Sleepy Colorado town comes alive during ‘Frozen Dead Guy Days’
COLORADO - Every March the cryogenically frozen corpse of a Norwegian man breathes fresh life into sleepy Nederland, Colorado, where throngs of fun-lovers fill the streets for “Frozen Dead Guy Days,” a festival in honor of the town’s most famous resident. The annual three-day festival is the brainchild of a local businesswoman who came up with the whimsical idea 16 years ago as a way to attract visitors to Nederland, where the man’s body has laid in repose in a shed since 1993. The event topped her wildest expectations: From a modest crowd of about 1,000 the first year, the festival now draws about 20,000 visitors. Many of them dress in
Halloween costumes as they revel in such quirky events as a polar plunge, a frozen salmon toss, musical acts and a costume ball. “We never imagined it would be so wellreceived and grow so large – you could say I created a monster,” said Teresa CrushWarren, credited with hatching the idea when she was president of the local chamber of commerce. This year’s festivities began with a parade of a dozen hearses, followed by a “coffin race” through the streets of the Rocky Mountain town, where temperatures hovered just above the freezing mark. Sam Baggall, 20, a student at the University of Colorado, stood next to the makeshift
coffin she and her five teammates fashioned out of cardboard. “Our plan is to get out quick and be agile,” she said. The annual bash honors Bredo Morstoel, who died and was cryogenically frozen in his native Norway in 1989 with the hope that low temperatures will allow him to be resuscitated sometime in the future. After a four-year stint at a California facility, his grandson moved him in 1993 to his property outside of Nederland, 17 miles (27 km) west of Boulder. Moreover, King Salman is a very much honored figure in Middle Eastern countries. Saudi Arabia is ranked 13th in terms of Indonesia’s tourism market. Each year, the number of tourists from Saudi Arabia continues to increase. King Salman’s visit to Indoneisa in 2017, should be used as an opportunity to boost the number of visitors form the middle east by about 50 percent. “Bali needs to arrange its destinations ergonomically. Why? Bsed on the experience of receiveing a super VIP such as King Salman, we have found that Bali needs to improve the ergonomics of the siland as a tourist destination. In other words, we must provide comfort form visitors” said tourism analyst, Dr. Ni Made Eka Mahadewi, on

Indeed Bali’s tourism sector in Bali is ready, however some detaisl need to be improve upon by managing waulity destinations well. The obstacles faced today are related to preparedness of destinations in terms of providing for the special needs of visitors. King Salman for example is a VVIP and has standard requrements related to his privacy. “We have not been able to provide for all of these needs, like special elevators and flat stairs for wheelchairs. Also qualified human ressources that can meet certain standards in terms of height, nice looks, cleaniness and who have good work ethics are also lacking. Although Bali does have such equipment and services, there needs to be better handling” said Mahadewi.
A quality destination is one that is ready to meet the needs of visitors and is able to pay attention to the needs of disabled people, people in wheelchairs, or whose use a cain or other such needs. Small things that need to be prepared are the provision of chairs, special foods and ergonomic toilets. Made Suardana, a hotel of manager in Kuta, said that King Salman’s holiday in Bali will have a positive impact in the long term related to social matters. Bali, as a beautiful island with friendly people who respect all guests, also upholds the concept of tolerance in the life of the nation. The number of visitors to Bali from the Middle East can therefore increase. “In the short-term, the King’s visit only increases the value of tourist visits in the area of Nusa Dua, while it has a little impacts on tourism in Kuta and other tourist destinations”, said the lecturer of tourist destinations. No certainty about King Salman investing in Bali
MANGUPURA - After Sausi Arabia’s King Salman and his entourage extended their holiday in Bali, security measures have intensified. In addition to holidaying, the kingdom reportedly is interested in investing in Bali, particularly in Badung. Head of the Badung Tourism Office, Cok Raka Darmawan, said that his office has not received any information related to King Salman’s interest in investing in Bali. Nevertheless the extneison of his holiday
until March 12 has certained raised some questions. “King Salman wanted to extend his holiday in Bali, however I really do not know about pans to invest. This matter is quite private”, he said. When asked about the security protocol for King Salman and whether it could interfere with other guests, Darmawan said the King Salman does not want his visit to disturb other visitors holidaying in Bali. However inevitably, given the standard
operating proceedures for security there is the potential for other guests to be disrupted. “We understand that these are standard security measures” explained Darmawan. DENPASAR - Contemporary leaders should not be doing things for their own benefit but rather should be able to create happy conditions for the people they are leading. Furthermore, they should not claim the happiness of the people as their own but rather transmit happiness to the people. “On that account, future leader should be smart. Through an intelligent and happy leadership, we hope to see those who enjoy happiness transmitting this to the people that they lead. They should not take away the happiness of the people they lead, but do just the opposite”, said founder of The Ary Suta Center, Dr. I Putu Gede Ary Suta, during the national leadership education forum (Pakemnas) IX of the Indonesian Hindu Youth Association (Peradah) that took place in Denpasar on Friday (Mar. 10). Ary Suta added that in order to become a leader, core competencies should be developed. Leadership can be learned from the success of others, through the failure of particular leaders or learned from a mentor. Aspiring leaders should choose role models who have the appropirate knowledge. “So, mentoring is important and the existing leadership must really love those whom they lead. Leaders must truly embody and struggle for the interests of the people they led”, said Suta who was head of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency when he was just 36 years old. According to Ary Suta, leaders must be able to create a vision and mission as well as strategies based on the direction of that which is growing. They need to understand what people want, he said, and pass on tricks or strategies. “So that happiness can be the end result”, he concluded. Chairman of Bali Post Media Group, Satria Naradha, presented material entitled “Hindu Leadership, Sustainable Bali and the Press” during the IX pEradah (national leadershop forum) . Satria Naradha chose the life of a journalist, even though his parents wanted him to become a doctor. He became involved in the field of communications in high school when he wrote and created a school magazine. Later in life, on May 26, 2002, he established BaliTV and then several other local TV stations outside Bali such as, SurabayaTV, BandungTV, JogjaTV, SriwijayaTV as well as AcehTV. “All of this just me playing my role according to svadharma (one’s own duties), without having to belong to a party, without having to become a governor, without having to become a minister or without having to be regent”, he said. Their complaints were eventually submitted to the Badung House of Representatives in which it became apparent that the land spread across 3 hectares has been used to hold domestic sewage for 20 years. A representative of the landowners named I Made Arta, said that the domestic sewage from Global Bali Hill and several other residences was already discussed in a meeting in 2011. Village and sub-distric authorities were also made aware of the isseu and subdistrict official even wnet to inspect the vacant land. However, as of yet none of this has not been followed up on. “Around 60 square meters of the 3 hectares of land are exposed to sewage that spread down to end of the river”, he said. Arta said that he hopes that relevant agencies will take action immediately so that the environment will be no longer bepolluted by the wastewater. “We want this issue to be followed up on ASAP so that the environment can be clean. Those belonging to this temple group are the Muncaksari and the underneath Tamba Waras located at the right side of the Batukaru Temple. Geographically, the Tamba Waras Temple is located on the south slope of Mount Batukaru, precisely at Sangketan, Penebel, Tabanan. The temple located on the same line as the Batukaru Temple sits on the altitude of about 725 meters above sea level. To get to this temple, pilgrims have to cover a distance of about 22 km from the town of Tabanan. In terms of the temple structure, the Tamba Waras Temple is also nicknamed as the warehouse of universal medicine. It is estimated to have been established in the twelfth century. Before saying prayers, all the pilgrims should first do self-purificatory rite or melukat at the sapta Ganges shower. Turkey promises harsh retaliation after Netherlands bars ministers
ANKARA - Turkey told the Netherlands on Sunday that it would retaliate in the “harshest ways” after Turkish ministers were barred from speaking in Rotterdam, as a row over Ankara’s political campaigning among Turkish immigrants escalated. President Tayyip Erdogan labeled the Netherlands a “Nazi remnant” after it became the latest European country worried about political tensions inside Turkey spilling beyond its borders to prevent Turkish politicians from holding rallies. The Dutch government on Saturday first barred Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu from flying to Rotterdam and later stopped Family Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya from entering the Turkish consulate in the port city, before escorting her out of the country to Germany. Dutch police used dogs and water canon early on Sunday to disperse hundreds of protesters outside the consulate in Rotterdam who were waving Turkish flags and throwing bottles and stones. Several demonstrators were beaten by police with batons, a Reuters witness said. Officers carried out charges on horseback. The Dutch government, which stands to lose heavily to the anti-Islam party of Geert Wilders in elections next week, said the ministers’ visits were undesirable and that it would not cooperate in the political campaigning of Turkish ministers in the Netherlands. In a statement issued early on Sunday, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Turkey would retaliate in the “harshest ways” and “respond in kind to this unacceptable behaviour”. Protesters also gathered outside the Dutch embassy in Ankara and consulate in Istanbul, throwing eggs and stones at the buildings. Turkish authorities had earlier sealed off the premises in apparent retaliation.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said he would do everything to “de-escalate” the diplomatic confrontation, which he described as the worst the Netherlands had experienced in years. For a short period, the Turkish flag flew outside the Dutch consulate in Istanbul. Sources inside the Turkish presidency said the flags had been changed by Dutch consulate officials and that there had been no outside interference.

Ahead of his planned trip, Cavusoglu had threatened tough economic and political sanctions against the Netherlands if it refused him entry. Supporting Rutte’s decision to ban the visits, the Dutch government said there was a risk of Turkish political divisions flowing over into its own Turkish minority, which has both pro- and anti-Erdogan camps. It cited public order and security worries in withdrawing landing rights for Cavusoglu’s flight. Turkey fired back saying the Dutch ambassador to Ankara should not return from leave “for some time”. Erdogan is looking to the large number of Turks living in Europe, especially in Germany and the Netherlands, to help secure victory next month in a referendum that would give the presidency sweeping new powers. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she will do all she can to prevent Turkey’s domestic tensions spreading onto German territory. Austria and Switzerland have also cancelled Turkish rallies due to the escalating dispute. Man faces 10-year sentence after scaling White House fence
WASHINGTON - An intruder carrying a backpack was arrested after scaling a fence around the White House and entering the grounds, the U.S. Secret Service said on Saturday, in the latest breach of security at the president’s official residence. President Donald Trump was inside the White House when the male suspect climbed over the fence on the complex’s South Grounds at 11:38 p.m. on Friday, and uniformed officers arrested him, the Secret Service said in a statement. The suspect, identified in court documents as California resident Jonathan Tran, 26, is scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday after a judge on Saturday ordered him held without bond, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia said. Trump earlier thanked the Secret Service and commended the agents for apprehending the intruder. “Secret Service did a fantastic job,” Trump told reporters at the start of a working lunch on Saturday afternoon with several Cabinet members at his golf course outside Washington. “It was a troubled person.” Tran was charged with entering or remaining in restricted grounds while using or carrying a dangerous weapon, and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, said Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Indonesia politicians caught up in $170 million graft case
JAKARTA — Indonesian politicians with key roles in President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s governing coalition have been caught up in a corruption scandal in which officials allegedly pilfered more than $170 million of government money. The justice minister, a former interior minister, the current speaker of parliament and provincial governors are among those named in an indictment presented to a special corruption court on Thursday at the start of a trial of two Interior Ministry officials. The case could turn into a test of Jokowi’s ability to take a hard line against corruption, which is at epidemic levels in Indonesia and holds back development of the nation of more than 250 million people. Indonesia’s anti-corruption police allege that a network of about 80 conspirators and several companies used the introduction of a $440 million electronic identity card system in 2011 and 2012 to steal more than a third of the funds. Local media reported that parliament’s speaker and the justice minister denied involvement. Irman and Sugiharto, the two officials currently on trial, are charged with receiving $4.4 million. Prosecutors say the rest of the stolen $172 million was distributed among the dozens of other people involved. The justice minister and parliament’s speaker are from political parties that have thrown their support behind Jokowi’s government, which initially did not
command a parliamentary majority following the election of the maverick candidate in 2014. Transparency International in 2016 gave Indonesia a corruption score of 37 on a 1 to 100 scale, where 100 is completely free of corruption. JAKARTA - Indonesian police arrested nine suspected militants on the island of Sulawesi, a police spokesman said on Saturday, in an operation that media reported had targeted a group with affiliations to Islamic State. With investigations continuing, police spokesman Martinus Sitompul declined to give further details, but media reported police had also seized bomb-making materials meant for use in attacks on police and official buildings. The suspects were all members of Mujahidin Indonesia Timur, a group that had been controlled until last year by one of the first Indonesian militants to pledge loyalty to Islamic State.
Santoso had been the country’s most-wanted men before he was killed in a gunbattle with police and military forces last July, and security officials have been expecting reprisal attacks. Some members of his group were believed to be still hiding in Sulawesi’s dense jungles. Security experts say that Indonesia, an officially secular state with the world’s largest Muslim population, faces a growing threat from supporters of Islamic State. Last month, police killed a militant after he detonated a small bomb in the city of Bandung. “I’m not ducking or dodging anyone,” American Mayweather told British media. “I’m only coming out of retirement for one person and that’s Conor McGregor. “We don’t need to waste no time. We need to make this ... happen quickly. Let’s get it on in June.” McGregor has been challenging Mayweather, who retired in 2015 with a 49-0 record, to a fight for months. The two sides have yet to reach terms and have a number of major hurdles to overcome. Mayweather has asked for a guaranteed $100 million to make the fight happen, with $15 million going to McGregor, while UFC president Dana White has talked of $25 million to each plus pay-per-view money. “I’m not ducking or dodging anyone,” American Mayweather told British media. “I’m only coming out of retirement for one person and that’s Conor McGregor. “We don’t need to waste no time. Turkey promises harsh retaliation after Netherlands bars ministers
ANKARA - Turkey told the Netherlands on Sunday that it would retaliate in the “harshest ways” after Turkish ministers were barred from speaking in Rotterdam, as a row over Ankara’s political campaigning among Turkish immigrants escalated. President Tayyip Erdogan labeled the Netherlands a “Nazi remnant” after it became the latest European country worried about political tensions inside Turkey spilling beyond its borders to prevent Turkish politicians from holding rallies. The Dutch government on Saturday first barred Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu from flying to Rotterdam and later stopped Family Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya from entering the Turkish consulate in the port city, before escorting her out of the country to Germany. Dutch police used dogs and water canon early on Sunday to disperse hundreds of protesters outside the consulate in Rotterdam who were waving Turkish flags and throwing bottles and stones. Several demonstrators were beaten by police with batons, a Reuters witness said. Officers carried out charges on horseback. The Dutch government, which stands to lose heavily to the anti-Islam party of Geert Wilders in elections next week, said the ministers’ visits were undesirable and that it would not cooperate in the political campaigning of Turkish ministers in the Netherlands. In a statement issued early on Sunday, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Turkey would retaliate in the “harshest ways” and “respond in kind to this unacceptable behaviour”. Protesters also gathered outside the Dutch embassy in Ankara and consulate in Istanbul, throwing eggs and stones at the buildings. Turkish authorities had earlier sealed off the premises in apparent retaliation.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said he would do everything to “de-escalate” the diplomatic confrontation, which he described as the worst the Netherlands had experienced in years. For a short period, the Turkish flag flew outside the Dutch consulate in Istanbul. Sources inside the Turkish presidency said the flags had been changed by Dutch consulate officials and that there had been no outside interference.

Ahead of his planned trip, Cavusoglu had threatened tough economic and political sanctions against the Netherlands if it refused him entry. Supporting Rutte’s decision to ban the visits, the Dutch government said there was a risk of Turkish political divisions flowing over into its own Turkish minority, which has both pro- and anti-Erdogan camps. It cited public order and security worries in withdrawing landing rights for Cavusoglu’s flight. Turkey fired back saying the Dutch ambassador to Ankara should not return from leave “for some time”. Erdogan is looking to the large number of Turks living in Europe, especially in Germany and the Netherlands, to help secure victory next month in a referendum that would give the presidency sweeping new powers. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she will do all she can to prevent Turkey’s domestic tensions spreading onto German territory. Austria and Switzerland have also cancelled Turkish rallies due to the escalating dispute. The diplomatic row comes in the run-up to the coming week’s Dutch election in which the mainstream parties are under strong pressure from the far-right party of Geert Wilders. (rtr)

Man faces 10-year sentence after scaling White House fence
WASHINGTON - An intruder carrying a backpack was arrested after scaling a fence around the White House and entering the grounds, the U.S. Secret Service said on Saturday, in the latest breach of security at the president’s official residence. President Donald Trump was inside the White House when the male suspect climbed over the fence on the complex’s South Grounds at 11:38 p.m. on Friday, and uniformed officers arrested him, the Secret Service said in a statement. The suspect, identified in court documents as California resident Jonathan Tran, 26, is scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday after a judge on Saturday ordered him held without bond, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia said. Trump earlier thanked the Secret Service and commended the agents for apprehending the intruder. “Secret Service did a fantastic job,” Trump told reporters at the start of a working lunch on Saturday afternoon with several Cabinet members at his golf course outside Washington. “It was a troubled person.” Tran was charged with entering or remaining in restricted grounds while using or carrying a dangerous weapon, and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, said Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Indonesia politicians caught up in $170 million graft case
JAKARTA — Indonesian politicians with key roles in President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s governing coalition have been caught up in a corruption scandal in which officials allegedly pilfered more than $170 million of government money. The justice minister, a former interior minister, the current speaker of parliament and provincial governors are among those named in an indictment presented to a special corruption court on Thursday at the start of a trial of two Interior Ministry officials. The case could turn into a test of Jokowi’s ability to take a hard line against corruption, which is at epidemic levels in Indonesia and holds back development of the nation of more than 250 million people. Indonesia’s anti-corruption police allege that a network of about 80 conspirators and several companies used the introduction of a $440 million electronic identity card system in 2011 and 2012 to steal more than a third of the funds. Local media reported that parliament’s speaker and the justice minister denied involvement. Irman and Sugiharto, the two officials currently on trial, are charged with receiving $4.4 million. Prosecutors say the rest of the stolen $172 million was distributed among the dozens of other people involved. JAKARTA - Indonesian police arrested nine suspected militants on the island of Sulawesi, a police spokesman said on Saturday, in an operation that media reported had targeted a group with affiliations to Islamic State. With investigations continuing, police spokesman Martinus Sitompul declined to give further details, but media reported police had also seized bomb-making materials meant for use in attacks on police and official buildings. The suspects were all members of Mujahidin Indonesia Timur, a group that had been controlled until last year by one of the first Indonesian militants to pledge loyalty to Islamic State.
Santoso had been the country’s most-wanted men before he was killed in a gunbattle with police and military forces last July, and security officials have been expecting reprisal attacks. Some members of his group were believed to be still hiding in Sulawesi’s dense jungles. Security experts say that Indonesia, an officially secular state with the world’s largest Muslim population, faces a growing threat from supporters of Islamic State. Last month, police killed a militant after he detonated a small bomb in the city of Bandung. While authorities attributed the decrease to increased security and other anti-poaching measures, some conservationists speculate that there are fewer rhinos to kill. Drought also killed some rhinos in the past year. By some estimates, South Africa has nearly 20,000 rhinos, or 80 percent of Africa’s population. It is said that King of Tabanan, Cokorda Tabanan, was in serious illness. None of the royal healers could heal him. Medicine has been sought after everywhere, but nothing worked. status as the sad kahyangan jagat of Bali. The Tamba Waras temple is included in the jajar kemiri. Those belonging to this temple group are the Muncaksari and the underneath Tamba Waras located at the right side of the Batukaru Temple. Geographically, the Tamba Waras Temple is located on the south slope of Mount Batukaru, precisely at Sangketan, Penebel, Tabanan. The temple located on the same line as the Batukaru Temple sits on the altitude of about 725 meters above sea level. To get to this temple, pilgrims have to cover a distance of about 22 km from the town of Tabanan. In terms of the temple structure, the Tamba Waras Temple is also nicknamed as the warehouse of universal medicine. It is estimated to have been established in the twelfth century. Before saying prayers, all the pilgrims should first do self-purificatory rite or melukat at the sapta Ganges shower. Through an intelligent and happy leadership, we hope to see those who enjoy happiness transmitting this to the people that they lead. They should not take away the happiness of the people they lead, but do just the opposite”, said founder of The Ary Suta Center, Dr. I Putu Gede Ary Suta, during the national leadership education forum (Pakemnas) IX of the Indonesian Hindu Youth Association (Peradah) that took place in Denpasar on Friday (Mar. 10). Ary Suta added that in order to become a leader, core competencies should be developed. Leadership can be learned from the success of others, through the failure of particular leaders or learned from a mentor. Aspiring leaders should choose role models who have the appropirate knowledge. “So, mentoring is important and the existing leadership must really love those whom they lead. Leaders must truly embody and struggle for the interests of the people they led”, said Suta who was head of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency when he was just 36 years old. According to Ary Suta, leaders must be able to create a vision and mission as well as strategies based on the direction of that which is growing. They need to understand what people want, he said, and pass on tricks or strategies. “So that happiness can be the end result”, he concluded. Chairman of Bali Post Media Group, Satria Naradha, presented material entitled “Hindu Leadership, Sustainable Bali and the Press” during the IX pEradah (national leadershop forum) . Satria Naradha chose the life of a journalist, even though his parents wanted him to become a doctor. Later in life, on May 26, 2002, he established BaliTV and then several other local TV stations outside Bali such as, SurabayaTV, BandungTV, JogjaTV, SriwijayaTV as well as AcehTV. “All of this just me playing my role according to svadharma (one’s own duties), without having to belong to a party, without having to become a governor, without having to become a minister or without having to be regent”, he said. According to Naradha, Bali still survives despite recent problems and systems of modern leadership, mastery of information technology, mental strategies to bypass through process of elimination and other basic shifts, though he added that according to the analysis by the press Balinessness will disapear within just one generation. Peradah national leadership education is a strategic step towards saving the succeeding generations of the island from becoming victims to these changes. “Our generation will not be meer spectators to these changes and simply be proude to work on a crusie ship overseas. Balinese people are loosing the economic competition, not just in Bali but everywhere. Balinese people are truly great, but we are in crisis”, explained Satria Naradha. MANGUPURA - Residents who own the vacant land behind the Global Village Housing in Mumbul hamlet, South Kuta, have complained about sewage flowing onto their vacant land. Their complaints were eventually submitted to the Badung House of Representatives in which it became apparent that the land spread across 3 hectares has been used to hold domestic sewage for 20 years. A representative of the landowners named I Made Arta, said that the domestic sewage from Global Bali Hill and several other residences was already discussed in a meeting in 2011. Village and sub-distric authorities were also made aware of the isseu and subdistrict official even wnet to inspect the vacant land. However, as of yet none of this has not been followed up on. “Around 60 square meters of the 3 hectares of land are exposed to sewage that spread down to end of the river”, he said. Arta said that he hopes that relevant agencies will take action immediately so that the environment will be no longer bepolluted by the wastewater. “We want this issue to be followed up on ASAP so that the environment can be clean. As owners of this land, we demand that our rights be respected”, he said. Deputy Chairman of the Badung House of Representatives, I Nyoman Kariana, who went to investigate con-
ditions on this polt of land himself on Friday (Mar. 10) said complaints by the public about the domestic sewage have been expressed for decades and will be responded to immediately. According to Kariana, that had been mediation on the issue previsouly but no common ground had been found as evidenced by the waste that has yet to be addressed. Kariana who wnet ot the site with the Commission II of the Badung House of Representatives said that the entreprenuers who have been disposing of their sewage here, along with related parites were immediately summoned to resolve the problem. “We hope the entrepreneurs who claim to be concerned about the environment do not continue to damge the enviro=nment” said Karana. Chief of Commission II, I Wayan Luwir Wiana, who also joined the site inspection, confirmed that the sewage waste is still contaminating the vacant lot owned by local residents. He emphasized that this should be the last
time that this problem is spoken of as it should be dealt with immediately. Luwir Wiyana also asked the subdistrict head of South Kuta to summon those who are disposing waste here so that the issue can be resolved and the environmental pollution does not become more widespread. Although the land is vacant the problem still needs to be addressed, it would be much worse if there were buidings here. We will summon relevant agencies such as the environment and sanitation agency (DLHK) in order to resolve this problem that has been left unresolved for 2 decades. “Not only here, but all waste pollutino by hotels and restaurants in the distirct of Badung will be cracked down on and supervised in accordance with the basic duties of Commission II”, he said. South Kuta subdistrict head, Wayan Wirya, added that previous mediation and communication regarding a solution had taken place. NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party won a landslide victory in India’s most important battleground state on Saturday, in a personal triumph that will strengthen his claim to a second term as national leader. Wresting control of Uttar Pradesh is a ringing endorsement of Modi’s stewardship of Asia’s third-largest economy after his high-risk decision last November to scrap high-value banknotes to rein in corruption. The Election Commission of India said Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won a clear majority. With the tally of results almost complete, the BJP had collected as many as 312 of 403 seats in the state assembly, the biggest majority for any party in the state since 1977. Almost four in ten voters backed Modi’s party, the election commission said, close to the party’s vote share in Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 general election when it won the biggest national majority in three decades. “I give my heartfelt thanks to the people of Uttar Pradesh. Sleepy Colorado town comes alive during ‘Frozen Dead Guy Days’
COLORADO - Every March the cryogenically frozen corpse of a Norwegian man breathes fresh life into sleepy Nederland, Colorado, where throngs of fun-lovers fill the streets for “Frozen Dead Guy Days,” a festival in honor of the town’s most famous resident. The annual three-day festival is the brainchild of a local businesswoman who came up with the whimsical idea 16 years ago as a way to attract visitors to Nederland, where the man’s body has laid in repose in a shed since 1993. The event topped her wildest expectations: From a modest crowd of about 1,000 the first year, the festival now draws about 20,000 visitors. Many of them dress in
Halloween costumes as they revel in such quirky events as a polar plunge, a frozen salmon toss, musical acts and a costume ball. “We never imagined it would be so wellreceived and grow so large – you could say I created a monster,” said Teresa CrushWarren, credited with hatching the idea when she was president of the local chamber of commerce. This year’s festivities began with a parade of a dozen hearses, followed by a “coffin race” through the streets of the Rocky Mountain town, where temperatures hovered just above the freezing mark. MANGUPURA - After Sausi Arabia’s King Salman and his entourage extended their holiday in Bali, security measures have intensified. In addition to holidaying, the kingdom reportedly is interested in investing in Bali, particularly in Badung. Head of the Badung Tourism Office, Cok Raka Darmawan, said that his office has not received any information related to King Salman’s interest in investing in Bali. NEW YORK - Sporting a bleached-blond buzz cut, American actress Kristen Stewart hit the red carpet in New York to promote her new film “Personal Shopper”, saying she hoped to help others by going public about her sexual orientation. The 26-year-old, who used to date her co-star from the “Twilight” film series, Robert Pattinson, made headlines in February when she announced she was gay while hosting the U.S. late night sketch show “Saturday Night Live”. “I always wanted to keep what was mine in private, mine. And then I thought like you know, you open it up a little bit and you can help one or two people, it’s absolutely worth it,” she said on Thursday. “Personal Shopper”, directed by Olivier Assayas, tells the story of Maureen (Stewart), an American woman working in Paris, who is trying to connect with the spirit of her dead brother Lewis. The film has been described as a seductive, mysterious ghost-story, but Assayas said it was simply a coming of age tale. “It’s a character who is in a moment in her life where she has to somehow become herself because she’s just lost her twin brother. So it’s really like a character who is one half of herself and she will gradually rebuild her life and become someone,” Assayas said.
