LOS ANGELES - Film star Brad Pitt has been cleared of abuse allegations in a child welfare investigation and has asked a court to grant him shared custody of his six children with his estranged wife, actress Angelina Jolie, a source close to the matter said on Wednesday.
Pitt, 52, fully cooperated in a comprehensive inquiry conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, which found no wrongdoing on his part, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The Hollywood power couple, dubbed “Brangelina” during their decade-long romance, split following an incident on a private plane in which Pitt was reported to have lost his temper in front of one or more of the children. According to celebrity news website TMZ.com, Jolie accused Pitt of striking their eldest son, Maddox. Jolie, 41, filed for divorce from the actor, her husband of two years and romantic partner since 2005, in September, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking full physical custody of their children, ages 8 to 15. At the time, the Oscar-winning actress said her decision to end the marriage “was made for the health of the family.” Their children include two adopted sons, Maddox from Cambodia and Pax from Vietnam, an adopted daughter from Ethiopia, Zahara, and three biological children, Shiloh Nouvel and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. Having been cleared by the child welfare agency of abuse, Pitt went to court last Friday and filed for joint custody of all six youngsters, according to the source. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) declined to comment on the matter to Reuters, citing confidentiality laws. A representative for Jolie said on Wednesday she was “relieved that after their 8-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal.” (rtr)

BANGLI - Hotels in Bali need to do more than provide assistance through their CSR funds, as environmentalist and Chairwoman of the Bali Organic Association (BOA) Foundation, Dr. Ni Luh Kartini, said in Bagli recently, hotels also need to become ‘foster parents’ to villages around Bali’s lakes.

Dr. Kartini emphasized that the tourism sector uses huge amounts of water in Bali, therefore if the lakes -that are the source of this water become damaged, tourism will also suffer. “If we loss the lakes as a source of water, the tourism sector will most certainly be in danger. Tourism needs a lot of water and without water tourism cannot run”, she said. The tourism industry is therefore indirectly responsible for the preservation of Bali’S lakes and more than simply giving small donations is needed. “Hotels do in fact contribute through their CSR funds but this is not done continuously. We are hoping that in the future we can see a kind of sponsorship program where one hotel would foster one lake side village in protecting the lake’s water. We do not want our lakes to see the saem fate as Lake Singkawang that was reduced from 1,200 hectares to just 200 hectaress in width and from 5 meters in depth to just 1. Do we have to wait until that happens before we do something?” asked Dr. Kartini. She also said that she and others hope that the Governor of Bali will create a policy that requires supermarkets and minimarkets to buy local produce, thus making it easier for local farmers to gain access to this viable market. “Without such a policy, farmers have a really hard time getting their produce into these venues that already have strong networks established”, she added. The government of Tabanan itself will also team up with a third party, a well-known state-owned enterprise, in order to develop the potential of the tourism village. When receiving the audience of the Finance Director of the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Jatmiko K. Santosa, Wednesday (Nov. 9), Regent Eka said that Tabanan district has outstanding potential of agriculture and tourism. If both potentials can be synergized, surely they are able to increase the income of local residents. To that end, her government is committed to developing tourism villages in Tabanan, in addition to boosting the economy as well as evoking people’s spirit to protecting nature and the environment well. “Tabanan has a remarkable natural
heritage. It’s a pity if this potential is missed as such because we are committed to developing tourism village and it is an appreciation for us because the ITDC will support us to develop this potential,” she said. She added that to develop this sector, the government of Tabanan has also made improvement in all lines, especially in infrastructure. She hoped, if the tourism village has already well developed, people’s desire to convert land can also be suppressed. “We have made infrastructure improvement to support tourism village. Hopefully, people remain faithful to their land without thinking about land conversion,” she added. In the meantime, Jatmiko K. Santosa said that currently the ITDC is expanding its wings to the rest of Indonesia. This state-owned enterprise in the sector of tourist destination development is given the task by the government to develop tourist destinations in Indonesia even in Southeast Asia. With a maximum management, he believed the potential of tourism village owned by Tabanan district will
grow rapidly. Therefore, he hoped that this cooperation will be established well to participate and succeed in the central government’s program to increase tourist visit to Indonesia as many as 20 million people in the coming years. Previously, the Head of the Tabanan Culture and Tourism Agency, I Wayan Adnyana, said that in 2016 Tabanan at least has 13 tourism villages. Of the total number, only eight tourism villages have been running and one village has owned the regent decree. He said that it is very important for tourism village to get legalization, especially related to the process of coaching and further development. “When having a regent decree, certainly the help from central government will be quickly realized, while legalization of the seven tourism villages just waits for the signature of leadership,” he said. Baturiti is a special part of Bali, where the land is very fertile, the mountain air is fresh and where there is a large ceremony that takes place once every two Balinese years, in which all the Braongs of Bali gather to be ceremonially cleansed. I headed off to witness this wonder not thinking too far ahead and after visiting the crowded temple for a few hours, I decided to head back to Denpasar. Once I got to the main road, I realized that it was quite late and the damp mountain air was quite chilly. As I continued down the mountain road, I passed a few roadside fires that were burning thatch. I imagined that these were part of the temporary abodes of Barong and Rangda from the smaller temples in the area. I started to feel a bit of an eerie feeling and lost my courage to make the the long trip back to the city. There are not many hotels in the area, but I did see one place on the road side and i had also passed what looked to be a quite fancy place so I doubled back to check it out.
I am not a big fan of large hotels, partly because they often feel a little cold and out of synch with their surroundings and partly because for me they represent a lack of respect for the natural and social environment, using far too many resources and giving little back to the communities in which they stand. Despite by general disdain for big hotels in small places and the construction that was going on in the parking lot, I felt drawn to approach the front desk. I was greeted with genuine smiles and told that they were in fact not open yet. Perhaps because the expression on my face could not hide my desperation, the young woman went on to say that they did in fact have some rooms that were ready but that she would not want me to be disappointed with my stay because of the sound of construction that would be going on all night. I assured her that it would not bother me in the least and she finally conceaded and showed me to my room, where I slept like a log. Although the hotel was not yet
open to the public at the time of my visit, and had yet to be fully ornamented with Balinese architectural features, they had started making a path from the small spa, through the gardens to the nearby village where they are already working with a recycling enterprise to deal with any plastic waste produced by the hotel. This pathway provides a leisurely way for guests to enjoy the splendour of the remarkable landscape first hand and I certainly look forward to taking a stroll throughout the spectacular landscape soon. We could heard gamelan music and the reciting of prayers wafting gently across the valley from the Temple ceremony that was on its third day. Feeling like I had walked into a dream of what luxury tourism in Bali can be, and with eager anticipation for the Royal Tulip Saragam to open, I headed back to the temple to take in the day time atmosphere and thank the gods for showing me that nature, culture and business can work hand in hand in a mutually beneficial manner.

Marine tourism players asked to equip with pass
NEGARA - Perpetrators of tourism transport at the Gilimanuk Bay are required to equip their operation with pass or nationality identification of the ship. This is related to safety of marine transport reflecting on a number of occurrences of marine accidents. So, harbormaster appealed to transporters that provide crossing services by boat to also complement their ship with the pass. Chief Operator (UPP) of Gilimanuk Harbor, Boss Mascot, through the executive officer of Gilimanuk Harbor, Ni Komang Yuliani, told reporters on Wednesday (Nov. 9) that harbormaster has intensely disseminated sea transport safety to tourism players around Gilimanuk. Moreover, lately there is development of tourism potential at Gilimanuk Bay and many tourist transports emerged. Dozens of fishing boats used for marine tourism have not owned
any pass. According to him, the authority to issue the pass is owned by the government of Jembrana. However, prior to issuing the pass, the perpetrators of marine tourism transport should report their ship condition to local harbormaster. This is for inspection and issuance of ship seaworthiness. It is an important letter to be owned in order to ascertain whether the machinery, safety equipment and boat are feasible for use. It is important for the safety of passengers. Chief of the supervisory society group (Pokmaswas) of Gilimanuk marine zone, Selamet Heriyanto, said there are seven boats used for sightseeing at the Gilimanuk Bay. He admitted that none of the seven boats have owned the pass. According to him, the group is still coordinating with the local harbormaster. Tourists killing traffic cop undergo first session
DENPASAR - Two foreigners alleged to get involved in the murder case of a traffic police officer Wayan Sudarsa, the defendant David James Taylor, 34, from England and Sarah Connor, 45, from Australia, underwent first hearing in the Denpasar District Court on Wednesday (Nov. 9).

Both foreigners were prosecuted separately with different judges. In the meantime, the public prosecutor entrusted to read out the charges was A.A. Jayalantara. As stated in the indictment, the article used to charge the defendant is not different. David James Taylor is charged under article 338 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 of the first point of Criminal Code on murder, Article 170 Paragraph 2 of the third point of Criminal Code on overrunning and Article 351 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code (the persecution causing a death) in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 of the first point of Criminal Code about involvement in persecution. After heavy rains for several hours, Payangan hit by floods
GIANYAR - Just a few hours after heavy rains on Wednesday (Nov. 9), the highway along Jalan Raya Payangan looked like streams. As a result, this flood disaster also very much disturbed road users. Moreover, some craft products of local people seemed to be drifting away. Allegedly this happened due to rubbish clogging in the sewers as well as the reconstruction of the channel itself.
As seen in the field, the rain began to fall on Wednesday afternoon around 12:30. An hour later, a heavy rain occurred so that along the Jalan Raya Payangan was hit by floods. Due to swift flow of water along the road section to the border with Jalan Raya Kedewatan, it reached a height of an adult’s knee. Some motorcyclists also moved aside to a higher location, fearing the swift flow of water from the
north along the road section. In addition, a number of handicraft items belonging to residents were seen to have been washed away by swift water. BANGLI - Batur customary village in Kintamani held a ceremony at Ulun Danu Batur Temple, Wednesday (Nov. 9). to inaugurate a new Jero Balian at Ulun Danu Batur Temple, Ni Made Selsu Restiani Putri, a ten-year-old elementary school student from Kerta Budi hamlet, South Batur. Unlike other jero balian in Bali iwho are generally considered to be healers, jero balian will play an important role in officiating over a ritual at the Ulundanu Batur Temple. Ritual committee of the jero balian inauguration, Ketut Wijaya, explained that in the inauguration ritual of the jero balian last Wednesday, four other jero mangku or temple priests were also inaugurated, for a total of five children in the ritual. The four inaugurated priests become the patrons of Ida Ratu Ayu Pingit, Ida I Ratu Ayu Bunut, Ida I Ratu Ayu Candi Kuning and Ida I Ratu Alas Maketeb (Alas Arum Temple). Ketut Wijaya explained that prior to holding the ceremony, the Batur customary villagers held am nyanjan or “psychically electing priest candidate”, on October 23. In this nyanjan procession, jero dasaran denoting the attendant of Ida Bhatara (deities) fasted for six days. On the last day of fasting, jero dasaran did nepak geni : naming of the villagers designated to become jero mangku and jero balian. “When doing nepak geni, jero dasaran mentions the names appointed to be jero balian and jero mangku, including the name of their parents” explained Wijaya.
During the ceremony held on Wednesday several processions took place at Ulun Danu Batur Temple. The processions began with a pawintenan or initiation rite followed with by the magotra procession. This magotra is a procession othat involves shaving off the hair of jero balian and jero mangku by the priest of Ulun Danu Batur Temple. This was followed by mabiakaonan and the official inauguration to certify the appointment of jero balian and jero mangku. Ketut Wijaya said that, although the currently inaugurated of the jero mangku and jero balian are of school age, they can still do their school activities. The jero balian, is subject to restrictions that are effective though adulthood, in this case to not marry. Should the Jero Balian get married, severe sanctions are imposed on the man who marries her. “This is in accordance with the Purana manuscript. If anyone dares to marry Jero Balian they are subject to sanctions and the punishment is quite severe”, he explained.. (kmb40)

Alas Kedaton tourist attraction will hold cultural event named the Ngerebeg Pajegan Buah or literally fruit arrangement parade on the celebration of Tumpek Kandang falling on Saturday (Nov. 26). The ritual is intended for the animals living the forest of the destination, such as monkeys, flying fox and other animals. “This Tumpek Kandang ritual serves as a celebration of love depicting the human relationship to nature so that we can live in harmony,” said Operations Manager of Alas Kedaton tourist attraction, I Gusti Bagus Suryawan. In addition to the undertaking Tumpek Kandang ritual according to local tradition in Bali, Kukuh village as the owner of the Alas Kedaton tourist attraction will also parade fruit arrangement of a larger size. It will have the height of 2.5 meters filled in with various types of local fruits. It is different from previous years using mixed fruits (local and imported ones). In addition to fruits, the pajegan will also be decorated with local vegetables, and enlivened with small pajegan made by merchants at Alas Kedaton. He said the parade will begin at 14:00 preceded with mapeed (procession) surrounding the object for three times. Furthermore, the Tumpek Kandang ritual will be continued with ngerebeg procession. “This ritual is meant to allow the existing monkeys
at the object to scramble for fruits. For that purpose, people make fruit arrangement so as to be enjoyed by the dwellers of Alas Kedaton forest. It means to return to nature. The regular pajegan usually contains assorted Balinese cakes,” he explained. Suryawan realized that it needs more intensive promotion supported by various cultural activities to introduce the objects relying on local animals and plants. It is not done by holding cultural shows on stage, but through the events related to Hindu holidays. For example, coinciding with the anniversary of the Dalem Khayangan Kedaton was held ngerebeg activities. “This pajegan procession received a positive response from local community. Thus, there is an idea to continue and make it a permanent event every six months (210 days),” he said. Suryawan did not dismiss if this event also serves as a form of promotion to increase tourist visits to Alas Kedaton. This activity is an expression of gratitude because local community can still preserve nature that can generate revenue for Kukuh community operating the tourist attraction. “Honestly, tourist arrival this year has increased by 20 percent in the same period as the previous year. They mostly come from Europe and Asia. Within the past ten months, the object has been visited by Chinese market, and has even a fixed schedule every Monday and Thursday,” added Suryawan.(kmb)

LES CAYES - Haiti has launched a massive cholera vaccination campaign to battle a flare-up after Hurricane Matthew, but concerns remain about the capacity for longer-term improvements to water and sanitation infrastructure needed to eradicate the disease. The cholera campaign, launched on Tuesday in two southern areas hammered by the storm, is aiming to be the world’s largest, targeting 820,000 people, said Ernsly Jackson, an immunization specialist for UNICEF Haiti. Haiti has battled a cholera outbreak that has sickened more than 800,000 people and killed about 9,000 since 2010, when the bacte-
ria was imported into the country by a contingent of United Nations peacekeepers. Although it had proved stubborn to eradicate, cases had declined sharply from a peak in 2010-11. But Hurricane Matthew struck the island in early October, killing up to 1,000 people, leaving about 1.4 million in need of humanitarian assistance and damaging many health facilities. The storm largely destroyed much of the southwestern region’s already meager water and sanitation infrastructure, leaving it ripe for a cholera outbreak, experts say. Clifford Gauthier, the South department’s head of the Ministry of
Health, said there had been 1,200 suspected cholera cases since the hurricane hit, a sharp increase since the region had previously had fewer cases than other areas of the country. In total, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says there have been 3,500 suspected cholera cases since the hurricane. In the Immaculate Conception Hospital of the port town of Les Cayes, 19 people suspected of having cholera were hooked up to IVs and lay on hospital bedframes. BRUSSELS - For Europe, already reeling from Britain’s decision to leave its 28-member club, Donald Trump’s election introduces a host of new uncertainties it is ill-equipped to tackle. Preoccupied by a growing anti-establishment mood across the continent, the European Union’s leaders gave little thought to the idea a man dubbed “the pioneer of a new authoritarian and chauvinist international movement” by Germany’s deputy chancellor could take power in the United States. The day before, one of the EU’s leaders had confided a contingency plan of “crossing ourselves and praying”. JAKARTA - Indonesia feels lucky to be the host of the 85th General Assembly of the International Police (Interpol) being held in Nusa Dua, Bali, from November 7 to 10, 2016. The country has seen the major gathering as a good forum for sharing counter-terrorism experiences with the groups 190 member countries, besides offering an opportunity to promote Bali tourism. Joining Interpol since 1954, Indonesia has in fact reaped many benefits by coordinating with member countries and learning from their counter-terrorism plans and knowledge. “We have uncovered many new modes of operation which had never been found in Indonesia before, but we knew this is based on information from other countries,” Head of International Relations Division of the Indonesian Police Headquarters, Inspector General Ketut Untung Yoga, said on the sidelines of the Interpol General Assembly on November 8. Indonesia could adopt technics, tactics as well as technologies from other members to improve its capability to cope with a new case, including establishment of regulations, which has yet to be stipulated in the current laws. Pearls have become the target of illegal export practices, she said, and added that in 2014 the pearl exports to Hong Kong were worth US$49.8 million. MEXICO - As Trump forged toward victory, the peso plunged 13 percent in its biggest fall since the Tequila Crisis devaluation 22 years ago. Mexico said on Wednesday it will not pay for a border wall after Donald Trump’s surprise U.S. presidential election win and officials held back from taking any action to support the peso despite the currency hitting lifetime lows overnight. As Trump forged toward victory, the peso plunged 13 percent in its biggest fall since the Tequila Crisis devaluation 22 years ago, before paring losses to trade down 8.7 percent at 19.91 per dollar. Trump’s threats to amend the NAFTA trade agreement with Mexico, and to tax money sent home by migrants to pay for building a wall on the southern U.S. border, have made the peso particularly vulnerable to events in the U.S. presidential race. “Very hard times are coming to Mexico,” said analyst Gabriela Siller of Mexican bank BASE. He took the boy the his palace and lived with him. The boy was Jayaprana. When the boy had got adult he became a handsome one. The king loved him so much so he gave anything for his happiness. But Jayaprana was a good man. He never wanted any curious thing and had a simple way of life inspite of being a son of the king. Then, the time had come. He falled in love with a beautiful seller flower in the market. The girl was Layonsari (actually this is not her real name. No one know her real name. The name of
Layonsari was known after her death). Back to the story. Layonsari also falled in love with Jayaprana. Simply the king agreed with the intention of Jayaprana in merrying her. The people of the kingdom were very happy with the merriage, especially Jayaprana and Layonsari. But what’s a pity. The king falled in love, too, with Layonsari when Layonsari had been Jayaprana’s wife. That’s the beginning. The king then ordered Jayaprana go to the forest near the sea to kill the robbers accompanied by his guards. With this strategy the king hoped he could gave Jayaprana away from his wife and he could persuaded Jayaprana’s wife to merry himself. Jayaprana went to the forest although his wife had told him about her bad sign for his journey. He accompanied by Patih Sawung Galing, the head guard of the kingdom. After walking for days they reached the forest eventually. There were many faiths with the robbers, and they succeeded in killing all the robbers. At the last faith with the robbers, Patih Sawung Galing tried to kill Jayaprana. But he could not.

He had promised to obey all the orders of the king. Of course, Jayaprana could killed Patih Sawung Galing and then killed the king. But what for ? He though. With the event, he had nothing anymore in his life except his wife. He was so sad. Then he decided to let Patih Sawung Galing to kill him in order to fulfil his promise to the king, his step-father. He took the flower he was using in this hair and gave it to Patih Sawung Galing. Jayaprana also gave his Keris to Patih Sawung Galing so he could kill him. Jayaprana
asked Patih Sawung Galing to send his mesage to his wife that he was died in order to fulfil his promise to the king. The tears of Patih Sawung Galing dropped when he took the flower and Keris. With just one hit Patih Sawung Galing could kill Jayaprana easily. Then the magic began. A good smell came from the body of Jayaprana and spreaded out to cover the forest. All animals became sad and screamed out but a white tiger. The tiger jumped to Patih Sawung Galing and killed the guard with one hit. The same event also happened to Layonsari a few day later. She suicided after knowing her husband had been died for the king. A good smell came from her body and spreaded out to cover the palace. (Jayaprana’s
wife had her name from this event. Layonsari derived from two words; Layon means the death body, and Sari means a good smell). The good smell was a sign that they had no sins. The king was so sad with the event. Then he withdrewn himself and stopped reigning the kingdom. People of the Kindom then brought the body of Layonsari to the forest where Jayaprana killed few days ago (because they wanted to met them together again). At the place the people built two graves. One grave for Jayaprana and Layonsari, another grave was for Patih Sawung Galing. The last man was destined to be the guard of the grave forever. CALIFORNIA - Jamaican Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson both made the shortlists for the IAAF’s World Athlete of the Year awards on Wednesday after cleaning up the sprint golds at the Rio Olympics. Ethiopian distance runner Almaz Ayana made the shortlist in recognition of her stunning 10,000 metres victory in Rio. Bolt, a five-time former winner of the award, became the first person to win three consecutive 100 and 200 metres Olympic golds in Rio de Janeiro in August. He also holds the world records in the two disciplines, 9.58 seconds and 19.19 seconds, respectively. Thompson matched Bolt’s feat by also winning the 100m and 200m golds in Rio. Ayana broke a 23-year-old record to win the 10,000 metres after clocking 29:18.45 at the Rio Games where she also took the bronze in 5,000 metres. Bolt was joined on the men’s list by two-time 5,000 and 10,000 metres Olympic champion Mo Farah of Britain and South African Wayde van Niekerk, the double 400m Olympic champion. Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland also made the women’s list after retaining her hammer title in Rio. The finalists were determined by the IAAF Council, the IAAF Family and the public vote via social media. Sp rt Falcao’s strong form justifies Monaco’s decision to keep him
PARIS — One of the best moves of the summer transfer window in France was Radamel Falcao’s decision to stay at Monaco, rather than to take another loan spell somewhere. Four goals in two games last week underlined his strong return to form — he has been recalled by Colombia’s national team — yet it was a goal Falcao had disallowed that offered a better glimpse he is somewhere back to his best. Late in the first half against Nancy last Saturday, his strike partner Valere Germain had a header saved. The ball fell to Falcao, who was to the right of six-yard box, off balance and without a clear shooting chance. In a flash, he expertly dragged the ball back, span around nimbly and still had the presence of mind to artfully glide the ball into the middle of the net. It would have been his hat trick but was ruled out for offside. Yet it showed that his instinct is returning and that he has confidence in his body again. “He remains one of the best strikers. He’s only 30 (years old),” Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim said. “Our objective is to get him back to his (best) level.” It has been a difficult return from injury and loss of form for Falcao, once arguably the most lethal poacher in the world when with Atletico Madrid. He had scored 72 goals in 87 games for Porto when Atletico snapped him up in the summer of 2011, and in two seasons for Atletico he netted 70 goals in 91 games, winning the Europa League and the Spanish Cup. Falcao joined Monaco in May 2013 a deal worth 60 million euros ($67 million) and netted 11 in 19 games.
But in January, 2014 he tore his anterior cruciate ligament playing in a French Cup game. He would normally have been rested against non-league Chasselay, but insisted on playing. The defender who injured him — Soner Ertek — received a stream of vitriolic threats on social media from irate fans and the club’s president said a hateful letter was even sent from Colombia. Falcao missed the World Cup later that year and his career nosedived. He joined Manchester United and then Chelsea — both on loans. But his pace had gone, he looked unhappy and drastically low on confidence. He managed just four league goals for United and one for Chelsea — where nine of his 10 league appearances were as substitute. Jardim criticized Falcao’s decision to move to the Premier League when clearly not ready for its hugely physical demands. “He tried to keep playing at a high level. Normally, when a player is injured he doesn’t change club,” Jardim said. “It’s not easy to recover and to play at the same time. Players are not machines.” This season, Falcao has scored eight goals in 10 games for Monaco and is captain. Against CSKA Moscow last Wednesday, Germain peeled away from the right of the defense before slotting a reverse pass for Falcao’s second goal in a 3-0 win. PFA chief urges Mourinho to show more empathy to players
The Professional Footballers’ Association has voiced concerns over Jose Mourinho’s criticism of Manchester United defenders Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw, urging the manager to show more empathy towards players with “personal problems”. Mourinho condemned Shaw and Smalling over the pair’s apparent unwillingness to play through the pain barrier in Sunday’s Premier League win over Swansea City, saying they were not “brave” enough to feature. “I was disappointed by that because, knowing the individuals, they are both highly thought of.
They’ve got personal problems which I don’t need to relay,” PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor told Sky Sports. “Sometimes a manager needs to be a psychologist as well, and also to be a counsellor because you can’t treat everybody in the team (the same), every manager must know that. Every player in a team is different.” Smalling has missed several United matches with a foot injury but took a pain-killing injection to play against Chelsea last month, according to British media reports. DOHA — Qatar’s investigation into the death of a worker on a 2022 World Cup stadium construction site has led to “extended oversight” of health and safety procedures, officials said Wednesday. The man, who organizers have said was the first to die in a work-related accident, was named Wednesday as Anil Kumar Pasman from Nepal. He was 29 when he was killed while working on Al
Wakrah Stadium last month. Pasman was hit by a water tanker whose driver “was tragically unaware of his colleague’s close proximity” and out of sight, the stadium’s contractors and World Cup organizers said. “This tragedy serves as a profound reminder there is always more to be done — no matter how far we have come in terms of implementing health and safety on
our sites,” said Hassan Al Thawadi, secretary general of the World Cup organizing committee. “We will learn from this tragic event in order to prevent any repeat in the future,” he added. The tiny, gas-rich country is relying on its large workforce of Asian laborers to build stadiums and related infrastructure for the first World Cup in the Middle East. (ap)

Belgium had been looking forward to the return from a string of injuries of captain Vincent Kompany, but the Manchester City defender pulled out of the starting lineup just before kickoff as a precaution. The Netherlands was missing an injury-prone captain of its own, but Arjen Robben is fit and expected to play Sunday for his first international in a year when the Dutch take on Luxembourg in Group A. It was unclear whether Kompany would be back for Sunday’s game against Estonia in Brussels. Belgium hasn’t missed Kompany yet in its Group H qualifying cam-

SINGARAJA - Centuries ago, there was a small kingdom called Kalianget. Once upon a day the kingdom was attached by dangerous diseases that most of its people died. But the kingdom was safe although most of the king family members died, too. This made the king very sad. Then he visited his people for entertain himself and his people. At a cross road he met a child (boy) who was crying for the death of his parents and his brothers. The king adopted the boy to be his son because of losing all his children. He took the boy the his palace and lived with him. The boy was Jayaprana. When the boy had got adult he became a handsome one. The king loved him so much so he gave anything for his happiness. But Jayaprana was a good man. He never wanted any curious thing and had a simple way of life inspite of being a son of the king. Then, the time had come. He falled in love with a beautiful seller flower in the market. The girl was Layonsari (actually this is not her real name. No one know her real name. The name of
Layonsari was known after her death). Back to the story. Layonsari also falled in love with Jayaprana. Simply the king agreed with the intention of Jayaprana in merrying her. The people of the kingdom were very happy with the merriage, especially Jayaprana and Layonsari. But what’s a pity. The king falled in love, too, with Layonsari when Layonsari had been Jayaprana’s wife. That’s the beginning. The king then ordered Jayaprana go to the forest near the sea to kill the robbers accompanied by his guards. With this strategy the king hoped he could gave Jayaprana away from his wife and he could persuaded Jayaprana’s wife to merry himself. Jayaprana went to the forest although his wife had told him about her bad sign for his journey. He accompanied by Patih Sawung Galing, the head guard of the kingdom. After walking for days they reached the forest eventually. There were many faiths with the robbers, and they succeeded in killing all the robbers. At the last faith with the robbers, Patih Sawung Galing tried to kill Jayaprana. But he could not.
He tried many times with various ways but nothing could kill him. Then Patih Sawung Galing stopped. Jayaprana and Patih Sawung Galing made a conversation. Jayaprana asked Patih Sawung Galing why he wanted to kill him. According to Patih Sawung Galing, that was the king’s order. He told Jayaprana that the king wanted to be a husband of Layonsari. Jayaprana understood and became sad. He knew the king was very kind of him during his life. Jayaprana wanted to give anything to the king but his wife. He had promised to obey all the orders of the king. Of course, Jayaprana could killed Patih Sawung Galing and then killed the king. But what for ? He though. With the event, he had nothing anymore in his life except his wife. He was so sad. Then he decided to let Patih Sawung Galing to kill him in order to fulfil his promise to the king, his step-father. He took the flower he was using in this hair and gave it to Patih Sawung Galing. Jayaprana also gave his Keris to Patih Sawung Galing so he could kill him. Jayaprana
asked Patih Sawung Galing to send his mesage to his wife that he was died in order to fulfil his promise to the king. The tears of Patih Sawung Galing dropped when he took the flower and Keris. With just one hit Patih Sawung Galing could kill Jayaprana easily. Then the magic began. A good smell came from the body of Jayaprana and spreaded out to cover the forest. All animals became sad and screamed out but a white tiger. The tiger jumped to Patih Sawung Galing and killed the guard with one hit. The same event also happened to Layonsari a few day later. She suicided after knowing her husband had been died for the king. A good smell came from her body and spreaded out to cover the palace. (Jayaprana’s
wife had her name from this event. Layonsari derived from two words; Layon means the death body, and Sari means a good smell). The good smell was a sign that they had no sins. The king was so sad with the event. Then he withdrewn himself and stopped reigning the kingdom. People of the Kindom then brought the body of Layonsari to the forest where Jayaprana killed few days ago (because they wanted to met them together again). At the place the people built two graves. One grave for Jayaprana and Layonsari, another grave was for Patih Sawung Galing. The last man was destined to be the guard of the grave forever. After a complete ceremony, Jayaprana and Layonsari were stated as holy men. (IBP/net)

CALIFORNIA - Jamaican Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson both made the shortlists for the IAAF’s World Athlete of the Year awards on Wednesday after cleaning up the sprint golds at the Rio Olympics. Ethiopian distance runner Almaz Ayana made the shortlist in recognition of her stunning 10,000 metres victory in Rio. Bolt, a five-time former winner of the award, became the first person to win three consecutive 100 and 200 metres Olympic golds in Rio de Janeiro in August. He also holds the world records in the two disciplines, 9.58 seconds and 19.19 seconds, respectively. Thompson matched Bolt’s feat by also winning the 100m and 200m golds in Rio. Ayana broke a 23-year-old record to win the 10,000 metres after clocking 29:18.45 at the Rio Games where she also took the bronze in 5,000 metres. Bolt was joined on the men’s list by two-time 5,000 and 10,000 metres Olympic champion Mo Farah of Britain and South African Wayde van Niekerk, the double 400m Olympic champion. MEXICO - As Trump forged toward victory, the peso plunged 13 percent in its biggest fall since the Tequila Crisis devaluation 22 years ago. Mexico said on Wednesday it will not pay for a border wall after Donald Trump’s surprise U.S. presidential election win and officials held back from taking any action to support the peso despite the currency hitting lifetime lows overnight. As Trump forged toward victory, the peso plunged 13 percent in its biggest fall since the Tequila Crisis devaluation 22 years ago, before paring losses to trade down 8.7 percent at 19.91 per dollar. Trump’s threats to amend the NAFTA trade agreement with Mexico, and to tax money sent home by migrants to pay for building a wall on the southern U.S. border, have made the peso particularly vulnerable to events in the U.S. presidential race. “Very hard times are coming to Mexico,” said analyst Gabriela Siller of Mexican bank BASE. President Enrique Pena Nieto said on Twitter he was ready to work with Trump, calling the neighboring countries friends who “should continue to work together for the competitiveness and devel-

BRUSSELS - For Europe, already reeling from Britain’s decision to leave its 28-member club, Donald Trump’s election introduces a host of new uncertainties it is ill-equipped to tackle. Preoccupied by a growing anti-establishment mood across the continent, the European Union’s leaders gave little thought to the idea a man dubbed “the pioneer of a new authoritarian and chauvinist international movement” by Germany’s deputy chancellor could take power in the United States. The day before, one of the EU’s leaders had confided a contingency plan of “crossing ourselves and praying”. The day after, as they pledged to work with Trump, a senior EU diplomat summed up their dilemma. “Since we have refused to really think through this scenario, we have a list of questions that need to be answered, but almost everything is a big unknown,” the envoy told Reuters. For some, Europe must now step up and take more responsibility, both for its own security and the wider world, if the entrepreneur makes good on campaign talk of limiting U.S. defence commitments and other engagements abroad. JAKARTA - Indonesia feels lucky to be the host of the 85th General Assembly of the International Police (Interpol) being held in Nusa Dua, Bali, from November 7 to 10, 2016. The country has seen the major gathering as a good forum for sharing counter-terrorism experiences with the groups 190 member countries, besides offering an opportunity to promote Bali tourism. Joining Interpol since 1954, Indonesia has in fact reaped many benefits by coordinating with member countries and learning from their counter-terrorism plans and knowledge. “We have uncovered many new modes of operation which had never been found in Indonesia before, but we knew this is based on information from other countries,” Head of International Relations Division of the Indonesian Police Headquarters, Inspector General Ketut Untung Yoga, said on the sidelines of the Interpol General Assembly on November 8. Indonesia could adopt technics, tactics as well as technologies from other members to improve its capability to cope with a new case, including establishment of regulations, which has yet to be stipulated in the current laws. Currently, transnational crimes, which are borderless, demand international cooperation with advanced technology. Therefore, Indonesia is backing efforts to strengthen cooperation with the Interpol by exchanging information on ISIS and the emergence of new global threats from foreign terrorists returning home.

JAKARTA - The relations between Indonesia and the United States will remain good, irrespective of who wins the US presidential election, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated. “Indonesia respects the electoral process in the United States,” Jokowi said here on Wednesday. The president also lauded the choice of the American people. “We should wait for the final calculations,” the president counseled. The new leader of the United States would not affect the good relations between Indonesia and the US that had been established over the years. “Our relations will remain good, especially in trade and investment. The US is now the fifth-largest investing country in Indonesia,” the president noted. The BKPM data showed that the United States is categorized as a priority country for marketing investment in Indonesia. In 2015, the value of the United States investment in Indonesia had reached US$893.2 million, covering 261 projects, mostly in the mining sector. The exhibition which has been held regularly would open access to the people,” the minister said when opening the IPS in Jakarta Wednesday. The exposition displays the Indonesian sea kept pearls to the public she said. It was the duty of everyone to introduce the Indonesian pearl to pearl stakeholders and enthusiasts, the minister said. If the ISSP is recognized as a new commodity which has a high
value, it would benefit Indonesia, as it would serve as a new source of economy to Indonesia. The Indonesian pearl has good potential for the world market and therefore, noted designers are called on to present the latest pearl designs, she stated. “Many people will come to know and love the pearl when they see the creative and up to date designs,” the minister added. If the Indonesian pearl potential is cultivated properly it would boost the Indonesian economy, Minister Susi reminded earlier. Pearls have become the target of illegal export practices, she said, and added that in 2014 the pearl exports to Hong Kong were worth US$49.8 million. Ritual committee of the jero balian inauguration, Ketut Wijaya, explained that in the inauguration ritual of the jero balian last Wednesday, four other jero mangku or temple priests were also inaugurated, for a total of five children in the ritual. The four inaugurated priests become the patrons of Ida Ratu Ayu Pingit, Ida I Ratu Ayu Bunut, Ida I Ratu Ayu Candi Kuning and Ida I Ratu Alas Maketeb (Alas Arum Temple). Ketut Wijaya explained that prior to holding the ceremony, the Batur customary villagers held am nyanjan or “psychically electing priest candidate”, on October 23. In this nyanjan procession, jero dasaran denoting the attendant of Ida Bhatara (deities) fasted for six days. On the last day of fasting, jero dasaran did nepak geni : naming of the villagers designated to become jero mangku and jero balian. “When doing nepak geni, jero dasaran mentions the names appointed to be jero balian and jero mangku, including the name of their parents” explained Wijaya.
During the ceremony held on Wednesday several processions took place at Ulun Danu Batur Temple. The processions began with a pawintenan or initiation rite followed with by the magotra procession. This magotra is a procession othat involves shaving off the hair of jero balian and jero mangku by the priest of Ulun Danu Batur Temple. This was followed by mabiakaonan and the official inauguration to certify the appointment of jero balian and jero mangku. Ketut Wijaya said that, although the currently inaugurated of the jero mangku and jero balian are of school age, they can still do their school activities. The jero balian, is subject to restrictions that are effective though adulthood, in this case to not marry. Should the Jero Balian get married, severe sanctions are imposed on the man who marries her. “This is in accordance with the Purana manuscript. If anyone dares to marry Jero Balian they are subject to sanctions and the punishment is quite severe”, he explained.. (kmb40)

Alas Kedaton tourist attraction will hold cultural event named the Ngerebeg Pajegan Buah or literally fruit arrangement parade on the celebration of Tumpek Kandang falling on Saturday (Nov. 26). The ritual is intended for the animals living the forest of the destination, such as monkeys, flying fox and other animals. “This Tumpek Kandang ritual serves as a celebration of love depicting the human relationship to nature so that we can live in harmony,” said Operations Manager of Alas Kedaton tourist attraction, I Gusti Bagus Suryawan. In addition to the undertaking Tumpek Kandang ritual according to local tradition in Bali, Kukuh village as the owner of the Alas Kedaton tourist attraction will also parade fruit arrangement of a larger size. It will have the height of 2.5 meters filled in with various types of local fruits. It is different from previous years using mixed fruits (local and imported ones). In addition to fruits, the pajegan will also be decorated with local vegetables, and enlivened with small pajegan made by merchants at Alas Kedaton. He said the parade will begin at 14:00 preceded with mapeed (procession) surrounding the object for three times. Furthermore, the Tumpek Kandang ritual will be continued with ngerebeg procession. “This ritual is meant to allow the existing monkeys
at the object to scramble for fruits. For that purpose, people make fruit arrangement so as to be enjoyed by the dwellers of Alas Kedaton forest. It means to return to nature. The regular pajegan usually contains assorted Balinese cakes,” he explained. Suryawan realized that it needs more intensive promotion supported by various cultural activities to introduce the objects relying on local animals and plants. It is not done by holding cultural shows on stage, but through the events related to Hindu holidays. For example, coinciding with the anniversary of the Dalem Khayangan Kedaton was held ngerebeg activities. “This pajegan procession received a positive response from local community. Thus, there is an idea to continue and make it a permanent event every six months (210 days),” he said. Suryawan did not dismiss if this event also serves as a form of promotion to increase tourist visits to Alas Kedaton. This activity is an expression of gratitude because local community can still preserve nature that can generate revenue for Kukuh community operating the tourist attraction. “Honestly, tourist arrival this year has increased by 20 percent in the same period as the previous year. They mostly come from Europe and Asia. Within the past ten months, the object has been visited by Chinese market, and has even a fixed schedule every Monday and Thursday,” added Suryawan.(kmb)

LES CAYES - Haiti has launched a massive cholera vaccination campaign to battle a flare-up after Hurricane Matthew, but concerns remain about the capacity for longer-term improvements to water and sanitation infrastructure needed to eradicate the disease. The cholera campaign, launched on Tuesday in two southern areas hammered by the storm, is aiming to be the world’s largest, targeting 820,000 people, said Ernsly Jackson, an immunization specialist for UNICEF Haiti. Haiti has battled a cholera outbreak that has sickened more than 800,000 people and killed about 9,000 since 2010, when the bacte-
ria was imported into the country by a contingent of United Nations peacekeepers. Although it had proved stubborn to eradicate, cases had declined sharply from a peak in 2010-11. But Hurricane Matthew struck the island in early October, killing up to 1,000 people, leaving about 1.4 million in need of humanitarian assistance and damaging many health facilities. The storm largely destroyed much of the southwestern region’s already meager water and sanitation infrastructure, leaving it ripe for a cholera outbreak, experts say. Clifford Gauthier, the South department’s head of the Ministry of
Health, said there had been 1,200 suspected cholera cases since the hurricane hit, a sharp increase since the region had previously had fewer cases than other areas of the country. In total, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says there have been 3,500 suspected cholera cases since the hurricane. In the Immaculate Conception Hospital of the port town of Les Cayes, 19 people suspected of having cholera were hooked up to IVs and lay on hospital bedframes. Marie Wilnine Gaetan, the head nurse of a rapid-response team, said that the region had not seen so many cases since the disease was first spotted in Haiti. (rtr)

Marine tourism players asked to equip with pass
NEGARA - Perpetrators of tourism transport at the Gilimanuk Bay are required to equip their operation with pass or nationality identification of the ship. This is related to safety of marine transport reflecting on a number of occurrences of marine accidents. So, harbormaster appealed to transporters that provide crossing services by boat to also complement their ship with the pass. Chief Operator (UPP) of Gilimanuk Harbor, Boss Mascot, through the executive officer of Gilimanuk Harbor, Ni Komang Yuliani, told reporters on Wednesday (Nov. 9) that harbormaster has intensely disseminated sea transport safety to tourism players around Gilimanuk. Moreover, lately there is development of tourism potential at Gilimanuk Bay and many tourist transports emerged. Dozens of fishing boats used for marine tourism have not owned
any pass. According to him, the authority to issue the pass is owned by the government of Jembrana. However, prior to issuing the pass, the perpetrators of marine tourism transport should report their ship condition to local harbormaster. This is for inspection and issuance of ship seaworthiness. It is an important letter to be owned in order to ascertain whether the machinery, safety equipment and boat are feasible for use. It is important for the safety of passengers. Chief of the supervisory society group (Pokmaswas) of Gilimanuk marine zone, Selamet Heriyanto, said there are seven boats used for sightseeing at the Gilimanuk Bay. He admitted that none of the seven boats have owned the pass. According to him, the group is still coordinating with the local harbormaster. Both foreigners were prosecuted separately with different judges. In the meantime, the public prosecutor entrusted to read out the charges was A.A. Jayalantara. As stated in the indictment, the article used to charge the defendant is not different. David James Taylor is charged under article 338 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 of the first point of Criminal Code on murder, Article 170 Paragraph 2 of the third point of Criminal Code on overrunning and Article 351 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code (the persecution causing a death) in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 of the first point of Criminal Code about involvement in persecution. After marking coordination with David, the legal counsel once handling Corby would file an exception. “So, next week the hearing will directly come to the principal case. After heavy rains for several hours, Payangan hit by floods
GIANYAR - Just a few hours after heavy rains on Wednesday (Nov. 9), the highway along Jalan Raya Payangan looked like streams. As a result, this flood disaster also very much disturbed road users. Moreover, some craft products of local people seemed to be drifting away. Allegedly this happened due to rubbish clogging in the sewers as well as the reconstruction of the channel itself.
As seen in the field, the rain began to fall on Wednesday afternoon around 12:30. An hour later, a heavy rain occurred so that along the Jalan Raya Payangan was hit by floods. Due to swift flow of water along the road section to the border with Jalan Raya Kedewatan, it reached a height of an adult’s knee. Some motorcyclists also moved aside to a higher location, fearing the swift flow of water from the
north along the road section. In addition, a number of handicraft items belonging to residents were seen to have been washed away by swift water. Other than along the road section, the floods also disturbed a number of street vendors at Payangan Public Market. The Head of Gianyar regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD), A.A. Gde Oka Digjaya, admitted that he had received reports regard-
ing the overflowing water along Jalan Raya Payangan on Wednesday afternoon due to heavy rain. He said that such condition often occurs caused by the culvert clogged by rubbish. “This has happened for several times in Payangan and the water immediately recedes after the rain. Nevertheless, we have deployed some officers to check back as this usually happened due to clogged culvert,” he said.
Oka Digjaya also urged the public to be alert every time when entering rainy season, one of which by ensuring the sanitation of culvert from plastic waste. “I think it is a shared problem and people must maintain the culvert of their telajakan (space between house compound and road), including headman and subdistrict head, and regularly disseminate in order to prevent another similar disaster,” he said. BANGLI - Hotels in Bali need to do more than provide assistance through their CSR funds, as environmentalist and Chairwoman of the Bali Organic Association (BOA) Foundation, Dr. Ni Luh Kartini, said in Bagli recently, hotels also need to become ‘foster parents’ to villages around Bali’s lakes.

Dr. Kartini emphasized that the tourism sector uses huge amounts of water in Bali, therefore if the lakes -that are the source of this water become damaged, tourism will also suffer. “If we loss the lakes as a source of water, the tourism sector will most certainly be in danger. Tourism needs a lot of water and without water tourism cannot run”, she said. The tourism industry is therefore indirectly responsible for the preservation of Bali’S lakes and more than simply giving small donations is needed. “Hotels do in fact contribute through their CSR funds but this is not done continuously. We are hoping that in the future we can see a kind of sponsorship program where one hotel would foster one lake side village in protecting the lake’s water. We do not want our lakes to see the saem fate as Lake Singkawang that was reduced from 1,200 hectares to just 200 hectaress in width and from 5 meters in depth to just 1. Do we have to wait until that happens before we do something?” asked Dr. Kartini. She also said that she and others hope that the Governor of Bali will create a policy that requires supermarkets and minimarkets to buy local produce, thus making it easier for local farmers to gain access to this viable market. “Without such a policy, farmers have a really hard time getting their produce into these venues that already have strong networks established”, she added. Santosa, Wednesday (Nov. 9), Regent Eka said that Tabanan district has outstanding potential of agriculture and tourism. If both potentials can be synergized, surely they are able to increase the income of local residents. To that end, her government is committed to developing tourism villages in Tabanan, in addition to boosting the economy as well as evoking people’s spirit to protecting nature and the environment well. “Tabanan has a remarkable natural
heritage. It’s a pity if this potential is missed as such because we are committed to developing tourism village and it is an appreciation for us because the ITDC will support us to develop this potential,” she said. She added that to develop this sector, the government of Tabanan has also made improvement in all lines, especially in infrastructure. She hoped, if the tourism village has already well developed, people’s desire to convert land can also be suppressed. “We have made infrastructure improvement to support tourism village. Hopefully, people remain faithful to their land without thinking about land conversion,” she added. In the meantime, Jatmiko K. Santosa said that currently the ITDC is expanding its wings to the rest of Indonesia. This state-owned enterprise in the sector of tourist destination development is given the task by the government to develop tourist destinations in Indonesia even in Southeast Asia. With a maximum management, he believed the potential of tourism village owned by Tabanan district will
grow rapidly. Therefore, he hoped that this cooperation will be established well to participate and succeed in the central government’s program to increase tourist visit to Indonesia as many as 20 million people in the coming years. Previously, the Head of the Tabanan Culture and Tourism Agency, I Wayan Adnyana, said that in 2016 Tabanan at least has 13 tourism villages. Of the total number, only eight tourism villages have been running and one village has owned the regent decree. He said that it is very important for tourism village to get legalization, especially related to the process of coaching and further development. “When having a regent decree, certainly the help from central government will be quickly realized, while legalization of the seven tourism villages just waits for the signature of leadership,” he said. Baturiti is a special part of Bali, where the land is very fertile, the mountain air is fresh and where there is a large ceremony that takes place once every two Balinese years, in which all the Braongs of Bali gather to be ceremonially cleansed. I headed off to witness this wonder not thinking too far ahead and after visiting the crowded temple for a few hours, I decided to head back to Denpasar. Once I got to the main road, I realized that it was quite late and the damp mountain air was quite chilly. As I continued down the mountain road, I passed a few roadside fires that were burning thatch. I imagined that these were part of the temporary abodes of Barong and Rangda from the smaller temples in the area. I started to feel a bit of an eerie feeling and lost my courage to make the the long trip back to the city. There are not many hotels in the area, but I did see one place on the road side and i had also passed what looked to be a quite fancy place so I doubled back to check it out.
I am not a big fan of large hotels, partly because they often feel a little cold and out of synch with their surroundings and partly because for me they represent a lack of respect for the natural and social environment, using far too many resources and giving little back to the communities in which they stand. Despite by general disdain for big hotels in small places and the construction that was going on in the parking lot, I felt drawn to approach the front desk. I was greeted with genuine smiles and told that they were in fact not open yet. Perhaps because the expression on my face could not hide my desperation, the young woman went on to say that they did in fact have some rooms that were ready but that she would not want me to be disappointed with my stay because of the sound of construction that would be going on all night. I assured her that it would not bother me in the least and she finally conceaded and showed me to my room, where I slept like a log. Although the hotel was not yet
open to the public at the time of my visit, and had yet to be fully ornamented with Balinese architectural features, they had started making a path from the small spa, through the gardens to the nearby village where they are already working with a recycling enterprise to deal with any plastic waste produced by the hotel. This pathway provides a leisurely way for guests to enjoy the splendour of the remarkable landscape first hand and I certainly look forward to taking a stroll throughout the spectacular landscape soon. We could heard gamelan music and the reciting of prayers wafting gently across the valley from the Temple ceremony that was on its third day. Feeling like I had walked into a dream of what luxury tourism in Bali can be, and with eager anticipation for the Royal Tulip Saragam to open, I headed back to the temple to take in the day time atmosphere and thank the gods for showing me that nature, culture and business can work hand in hand in a mutually beneficial manner.

LOS ANGELES - Film star Brad Pitt has been cleared of abuse allegations in a child welfare investigation and has asked a court to grant him shared custody of his six children with his estranged wife, actress Angelina Jolie, a source close to the matter said on Wednesday.
Pitt, 52, fully cooperated in a comprehensive inquiry conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, which found no wrongdoing on his part, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The Hollywood power couple, dubbed “Brangelina” during their decade-long romance, split following an incident on a private plane in which Pitt was reported to have lost his temper in front of one or more of the children. According to celebrity news website TMZ.com, Jolie accused Pitt of striking their eldest son, Maddox. Jolie, 41, filed for divorce from the actor, her husband of two years and romantic partner since 2005, in September, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking full physical custody of their children, ages 8 to 15. At the time, the Oscar-winning actress said her decision to end the marriage “was made for the health of the family.” Their children include two adopted sons, Maddox from Cambodia and Pax from Vietnam, an adopted daughter from Ethiopia, Zahara, and three biological children, Shiloh Nouvel and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. Having been cleared by the child welfare agency of abuse, Pitt went to court last Friday and filed for joint custody of all six youngsters, according to the source. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) declined to comment on the matter to Reuters, citing confidentiality laws. A representative for Jolie said on Wednesday she was “relieved that after their 8-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal.” (rtr)
