And it actually celebrates that love, showing her officiating a real same-sex wedding between two women in Las Vegas. The women, identified only as Dani and Lindsay, were selected to appear in Kesha’s video after submitting a clip explaining their wish to get married. The video includes dialogue from both women, relating their history. “I had put in my mind that there were just certain parts of life I wasn’t going to participate in,” noted Lindsay. “Because of who I was. Even when I didn’t know who I was, I knew I was different. “When we first met, getting married legally wasn’t an option, so I don’t think it was something that we kept as a step that we could do,” she continued. “It was just, ‘That’s
not for you.’” The ceremony — which featured rainbow-motifed decor, including Kesha herself in a multicolored fringed tunic — took place at the Bellagio resort on March 26. The video reminds viewers that this date is the anniversary of the first-ever marriage license issued to a samesex couple in the United States. The two women wrote their own vows, some of which Kesha read, and some they spoke directly to each other. They ranged from traditional sentiments (“I knew from the moment I saw you that you were unlike any other person on earth, and after meeting you I would never be the same”) to ones that are bit heartbreaking (“I promise to always hold your hand, no matter what anyone around us thinks”). Before Kesha declared them married, the couple swore to create their own “wonderfully weird” family. The “Always Be My Baby” singer is trying to change the perception of hostels, teaming up for a sketch with Hostelworld called “Even Divas Are Believers.” In the video — which you can watch below — Carey accidentally arrives at the $40-a-night Casa Gracia during a trip to Barcelona. Miraculously, she ends up liking it so much that she dresses up in a fancy sequined dress, hits the cocktail bar, and performs “Fantasy” (with a white dove) to backpackers and travelers. Even the press release is gold. One line reads, “Known for outlandish diva demands, from ordering dog chauffeurs to demanding 20 white kittens and 100 doves for a performance and even having bodyguards watch her eat, Mariah surprised everyone when she exclaimed the hostel was ‘Fabulous!’” Carey says, “For some reason, someone thought it would be funny to book me in a hostel. To mine and everyone’s surprise, the hostel was fabulous! It was super-clean, modern, and spacious. I say give hostels a go — it could be a great choice for all you world travelers out there!” OK … but did Mariah actually stay in a hostel while filming this sketch? In the latest incident, 20 people died between Thursday and Monday in Cicalengka subdistrict near the West Java capital of Bandung. Head of the state-run hospital in Cicalengka, Yani Sumpena, said that 19 people died at the hospital and one was dead on arrival.

In the future, his organization will continuously develop the tourism potential currently untapped. Many small waterfalls and springs sit along the river that can be further explored for nature tourism. Indian tourist arrivals in Bali up 59.08 percent
DENPASAR - A total of 55,530 Indian tourists visited Bali during the January-February 2018 period, up by 20,624 people or 59.08 percent from 34,906 Indians during the same period in the previous year. “India is in the third rank of countries contributing the largest number of tourists to Bali Island, after China and Australia,” Adi Nugroho, head of the Bali statistic office, said here, Monday. Indian tourists constituted 6.9 percent of the total 805,538 tourist arrivals in Bali during the JanuaryFebruary 2018, down 11.94 percent from 914,809 tourist arrivals in the same period of last year. China contributed 23.67 percent
and Australia 19.57 percent to the total tourist arrivals in Bali, but the two countries` tourist arrivals were respectively down 35.56 percent and 13.20 percent in the first two months of this year. Japan contributed 4.45 percent, the UK 3.79 percent, the US 3.69 percent, Malaysia 3.34 percent, Russia 2.95 percent, South Korea 2.23 percent, and Taiwan 2.08 percent. Indonesia`s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has planned to serve a direct flights between Bali and Mumbai twice a week, starting April 23, 2018. Apple says all its facilities now powered by clean energy CALIFORNIA - Apple Inc (AAPL.O) on Monday said it had achieved its goal of powering all of the company’s facilities with renewable energy, a milestone that includes all of its data centers, offices and retail stores in 43 countries. The iPhone maker also said nine suppliers had recently committed to running their operations entirely on renewable energy sources like wind and solar, bringing to 23 the total number to make such a pledge. Major U.S. corporations such as Apple, Wal-Mart Inc (WMT.N) and Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) have become some of the country’s biggest buyers of renewable forms of energy, driving substantial growth in the wind and solar industries. Alphabet’s Google last year purchased enough renewable energy to cover all of its electricity consumption worldwide. Costs for solar and wind are plunging thanks to technological advances and increased global production of panels and turbines, enabling companies seeking to green their images to buy clean power at competitive prices. “We’re not spending any more than we would have,” Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president for environment, policy and social initiatives, said in an interview. “We’re seeing the benefits of an increasingly competitive clean energy market.” Renewable energy projects that provide power to Apple facilities range from large wind farms in the United States to clusters of hundreds of rooftop solar systems in Japan and Singapore. The company has also urged utilities to procure renewable energy to help power Apple’s operations. Encouraging suppliers to follow suit in embracing 100 percent renewable energy is the next step for Apple. The suppliers that pledge to use more clean energy know they will have “a leg up” against competitors for Apple’s business, Jackson said. “We made it clear that over time this will become less of a wish list and more of a requirement,” she said. The contest rules don’t mandate human-looking robots. “We don’t specify what technology they should use or what it should look like,” Diamandis said. DLHK Badung closes landfill in Ungasan
MANGUPURA — A piece of land used as a landfill in Ungasan area was closed by the Badung Environment and Sanitation Agency (DLHK) on Sunday (Apr. 8). The 2.5-hectare illegal landfill is located on the west side of GWK.
Head of the Badung Environment and Sanitation Agency, Eka Merthawan, when asked for his confirmation said the closure of the landfill originated from a complaint from a French tourist because the garbage at the location generates stench and air pollution. Before closing, his agency already made data evaluation with the South Kuta subdistrict head, Ungasan, municipal police and related parties. He said the location was originally used as a feed processing plant since 2003. After that, due to unbalanced earnings, the owner switched to buy waste that can be processed. Furthermore, it developed into the location of scavengers. Good garbage is taken while the bad one is stockpiled there. The landfill currently expands with subscribers reaching 3,000 families from ten housing complexes. “There are ten housing complexes from three villages namely, Pecatu, Ungasan and Jimbaran,” he said. When making a site inspection, it was found if the location made into the illegal landfill is not licensed. Moreover, the location generates stinging smell and air pollution due to the smoke of burning. He mentioned such activities violate the Law No. 32/2009 on Environment and Waste Management. “It is also clearly governed in the Regional Regulation No. 7/2013,” he concluded. Currently, landowners are given leeway because the location cannot be closed directly. If closed immediately, surely it will affect the 3,000 customers. “We give tolerance for the temporary closing until April 15. After that, we will do sealing,” he said. Meanwhile, to prevent from generating stenches, he appealed to backfill the piling up garbage. For plastic waste, his agency allows to sort that can be sold. To create a clean environment in Badung, in the future his agency will also close the same business at other locations. When questioned, the landowner, I Wayan Nukarta, a resident of Angasari hamlet, Ungasan, South Kuta, admitted the activity has been going on since 2003. At that time, all villages in South Kuta threw garbage on his land. Since the amount of waste was too high, finally in 2009 he asked the village authority to handle it. All this time, each of the 3,000 families from ten housing complexes in South Kuta is charged for IDR 15,000 – IDR
20,000 per month. So far, the garbage collected amounts to 25 tons. To handle such amount of garbage, he hires 30 employees each day. Meanwhile, the Head of South Kuta Subdistrict, Made Widiana, when asked for his confirmation he firmly goes up against the existence of such illegal landfill. He hoped in the future there will be no unauthorized landfill in South Kuta
that pollutes the environment with a stinging smell. He asked the entrepreneurs who handle the garbage service to make data collection of group head of the housing complexes served because after the closure all the waste handled must be disposed to the Suwung landfill. “Of course, it will cause the operating expenses to increase so we will disseminate this matter,” he concluded. appeared in numbers and they receive members without any screening so it is quite risky as they develop haphazardly. On the way, the government makes the rules that all developers implementing the FLPP must join in the association. Government regulations and policies also change according to circumstances in the field. “For example, there is development carried out haphazardly and the buildings then collapse. Seeing such condition, the government organizes a meeting to hold additional requirements,” he said. According to him, the FLPP (subsidized) house program is really capital intensive and unlike selling the plot of land. The agreement can only be made after the house has been established. To process the contract agreement, many requirements must also be met by consumers. Until now, Bank BTN is serious and has its support in this program. “Rouge developers usually work on their own land only or cooperation from the results of their speculation. They mostly do not understand the procedures. As consequence, the project is jammed and the losers will be consumers,” said Dedy. This condition is sometimes difficult to control,” he said. However, REI Bali is very selective in approving new members. Moreover, his side did the screening before giving approval to new members. It is meant to take care of the quality of the developer itself, let alone the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) has made a very good system to prevent the presence of illegal developers in the procurement of subsidized homes. “Now, it highly depends on us in the organization how to respond to this wisely, instead of just approving the new developers without making an appropriate selection,” said Agus. Every developer of subsidized home must be registered in the organization. Otherwise, the developer cannot cooperate with the supporting bank. This system is made by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing so that one day if there is a problem with the developer, the ministry can easily browse through the organization. (rah)

A spokesman for the railway ministry’s eastern division said none of about 1,000 passengers were injured in the incident Saturday night. investigation launched into how the carriages became separated during the journey from the western state of Gujarat to Odisha, said spokesman JP Mishra. Authorities believe that brakes applied when carriages are detached or attached to the engine were either incorrectly used or overlooked altogether. “Something ghastly could have happened and it was averted by alert staff. Then, drain and pound until smooth. Rice flour is then clenchedfist and steamed. Once cooked, take out and douse with the extract of dracaena leaf and betel leaf, salt to taste and knead until smooth. Shape the batter by means of banana midrib by preparing the batter of a marble size. Place this batter on the banana midrib by doing serud-serud (pulling down gently) with the thumb, so that it will look like a flower. Subsequently, place on banana leaf and then steam. While waiting this, prepare brown sugar sauce by means of boiling and make grated coconut. Once cooked, take it out and cool down. Remove the jaja serud from banana leaves and then put on a plate. MOSCOW - A Russian woman tragically died after she was administered embalming fluids instead of saline during a routine surgery, according to reports. Ekaterina Fedyaeva, 27, was undergoing a procedure at a hospital in Ulyanovsk, Russia, in early April when her medics mistakenly put her on a formalin drip instead of a saline drip. The accidentally administered IV bag contained formaldehyde, a preservative used to prevent corpses from decomposing. Fedyaeva came out of surgery suffering severe pain and convulsions, which lasted for two days before she slipped into a coma, according to the Sun. Fedyaeva’s husband, Igor, and her mother, Galina Baryshnikova, were both present throughout the horrifying ordeal. “Her legs were moving, she had convulsions, her whole body was shaking,” said her mother. “I put socks on her, then a robe, then a blanket but she was shivering to such an extent, I can’t even describe it.” Baryshnikova claimed that doctors were aware of their fatal error for hours but still did nothing to help her daughter. “They needed to take some urgent measures, but they did nothing,” she said. “I begged, ‘please help her, she is my only child.’ I think they just wanted me to go away and to hide everything.” The bereaved mother said she wasn’t even officially told about the accident until she stumbled upon a group of doctors quietly discussing how to break the news to Fedyaeva’s family. Fedyaeva was eventually put on life support and flown to a larger hospital in Moscow where she briefly awoke from her coma before dying from multiple organ failure. She was laid to rest on April 7. JAKARTA - Director of the ASEAN Study Center of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dafri Agussalim, stated that ASEANChina relations are still nuanced with competition rather than collaboration, which will create negative impacts, particularly among ASEAN member states. “The cooperation approach based on competition paradigm will result in imbalance in relations between ASEAN and China, as well as interfere with the cohesiveness, solidarity, and integrity among ASEAN countries,” he noted, during a seminar to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the ChinaASEAN Strategic Partnership in Jakarta, on Monday. Agussalim revealed that his argument was based on the fact that Chinese investment, which has been entering ASEAN market significantly, is mostly used for big industries such as infrastructure, mining, and capitaladvanced business, rather than the sectors that target middle and lower income people. According to him, the public sees Chinese investment as part of the Chinese hegemony against the ASEAN economy, which later spread suspicion, distrust, and negative sentiment towards the investment in the region. “Such economic relations and trade between the two sides are not responded properly and positively, and it also receives
negative response from the people of ASEAN countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia,” he noted. Another fact is that ASEAN countries always suffer from trade deficit to China, which also becomes an additional reminder that ASEAN and China should shift their cooperation approach paradigm from competition to collaboration. By applying collaboration, both parties aim to cooperate to achieve a win-win solution rather than a win-lose solution. “People who share the same goals are regarded as partners rather than competitors. The other party is considered to have the potential to realize mutual benefits. Thus, a collaborative approach can improve cooperation between existing parties. That is why I think ASEAN and China need to move from competition to a collaborative nature of relationship,” Agussalim explained. The case implicating Zumi Zola was unveiled after the bribery case involving acting provincial administration secretary Erwan Malik, was caught red handed by KPK on Nov. 29 last year. public work and housing office Saifudin and a Jambi lawmaker Supriono were arrested by KPK on bribery charge. KPK named Supriono as a suspect on charge of accepting bribe and Erwan, Arfan and Saifuddin were charged with bribing the lawmaker, to help ensure that the regional legislative assembly approved a regional budget proposed by the provincial administration. Arfan, therefore, is suspect in two different cases. First he and Zumi Zola were charged with accepting bribe from business players and second he was involved in bribing lawmaker to speed up legislators’ approval for regional budget. KPK confiscated a total of Rp4.7 billion from those caught red handed by KPK. The money was to be used to bribe the regional lawmakers to approve the draft provincial budget. If found guilty Zumi Zola will face a sentence of up to 20 years’ imprisonment with a fine of up to Rp1 billion. (ant)

Kolaka government witnesses rise of new HIV infections
KOLAKA - The number of people suffering from HIV in Kolaka District, Southeast Sulawesi, has increased by 270 percent in 2017 as compared to that recorded in 2016. Head of the Kolaka Health Office Harun Massiri cited findings of the health office team on the field that showed several people, especially men, were infected with HIV. “The increase is very high in the last two years,” he remarked. Kolaka District is one of the
most open areas, with several people moving in and out of the area due to which the disease has easily spread from outside. According to Massiri, the onfield team had found that dozens of HIV sufferers were the local residents of Kolaka, especially men in the age group of some 25-45 years. “We cannot reveal the sufferers` identities due to privacy concerns. However, we have already cured them, including through medicines and counseling,” he stated.
In a bid to take precautionary measures against the transmission of the disease, the government has urged stakeholders, including religious scholars and leaders, to disseminate information and awareness of HIV among the local people. “I urge stakeholders to adopt effective approaches and conduct socialization, including highlighting the impact of HIV disease on the local people of Kolaka. You can call it a bike, a sculpture or a bio reef, or what the Deus guys like to call, bio-rock ‘n’ roll. The site is some 50 metres off the shore of the Café Gili, at a depth of around 6-7 metres. The Deus project is a creative collaboration between the Marine Foundation and Deus and the reef restoration method Bio-rock®, made in the Deus motorbike workshops at their flagship store ‘The Temple of Enthusiasm ’ in Changu, Bali. BAHRAIN - Pierre Gasly’s superb fourth place for Toro Rosso in the Bahrain Grand Prix has reset perceptions of Honda’s Formula 1 engine programme almost overnight. Honda were ditched by McLaren at the end of last season, the team preferring to forego a net $100m (£71m) benefit of being a works partner with a car company in favour of paying for Renault engines because they had lost faith the Japanese company would ever get it right in F1. That decision looks questionable following Toro Rosso’s performance in the desert at the weekend. Not only did Gasly qualify a stunning sixth, start fifth after Lewis Hamilton’s grid penalty and race strongly to fourth, but both Toro Rosso cars out-qualified both McLarens, with Brendon Hartley taking 11th on the grid ahead of Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne in 13th and 14th. This has only increased the pressure on the senior management at McLaren, who had an abject time in qualifying at the home race of their major shareholders, the Bahraini royal family. Alonso and Vandoorne did eventually finish seventh and eighth in the race. And Alonso, it should be noted, is an impressive fourth in the championship after the first two grands prix. But Bahrain also emphasised that Honda, after three years of struggle, seem finally on the right track in F1, in the fourth year after their return.
OUT OF THE WOODS It all has to be kept in perspective, as Alonso himself was keen to point out after qualifying. Asked about the Toro Rosso performance, the Spanish two-time world champion replied: “It was great - but you didn’t ask about Toro Rosso in Australia. Because, I mean, if the Toro Rosso question will become a normality, I hope it becomes a normality at all 21 races - because the championship is 21 races.” In other words, one swallow does not make a summer. Alonso was referencing Toro Rosso’s performance at the first race of the season in Melbourne, where Hartley and Gasly qualified 16th and 20th. The Frenchman also suffered a major engine failure in the race. Honda got through Bahrain with no reliability problems after fitting a revised turbo/hybrid unit to both cars, which means Gasly and Hartley are now on their second of the season and only three are allowed before grid penalties kick in. So engine-related grid drops, which became all too familiar during Honda’s years with McLaren, seem an inevitability again. The wider point, though, is about performance. McLaren dropped Honda after spending much of last season claiming that their engine was the major reason for the car’s lack of pace.
Even at the time, many engineers up and down the pit lane were sceptical of this claim, feeling that McLaren were somewhat overstating the competitiveness of their chassis and aerodynamics. Did Toro Rosso show Honda engine programme is on right track?
AMLAPURA - Surfer, skater and petrol-head lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina collaborated with The Marine Foundation to create this bio-rock feature off the coast of Gili Trawangan. It comprises a motorbike, in keeping with the brand’s custom culture, and which offers divers and snorkelers a totally rad underwater holiday photo op. You can call it a bike, a sculpture or a bio reef, or what the Deus guys like to call, bio-rock ‘n’ roll. The site is some 50 metres off the shore of the Café Gili, at a depth of around 6-7 metres. The Deus project is a creative collaboration between the Marine Foundation and Deus and the reef restoration method Bio-rock®, made in the Deus motorbike workshops at their flagship store ‘The Temple of Enthusiasm ’ in Changu, Bali. Once completed the structure was transported to the Gili Islands on the roof of the Blue water express fast boat. Ekaterina Fedyaeva, 27, was undergoing a procedure at a hospital in Ulyanovsk, Russia, in early April when her medics mistakenly put her on a formalin drip instead of a saline drip. The accidentally administered IV bag contained formaldehyde, a preservative used to prevent corpses from decomposing. Fedyaeva came out of surgery suffering severe pain and convulsions, which lasted for two days before she slipped into a coma, according to the Sun. Fedyaeva’s husband, Igor, and her mother, Galina Baryshnikova, were both present throughout the horrifying ordeal. “Her legs were moving, she had convulsions, her whole body was shaking,” said her mother. “I put socks on her, then a robe, then a blanket but she was shivering to such an extent, I can’t even describe it.” Baryshnikova claimed that doctors were aware of their fatal error for hours but still did nothing to help her daughter. “They needed to take some urgent measures, but they did nothing,” she said. “I begged, ‘please help her, she is my only child.’ I think they just wanted me to go away and to hide everything.” The bereaved mother said she wasn’t even officially told about the accident until she stumbled upon a group of doctors quietly discussing how to break the news to Fedyaeva’s family. Fedyaeva was eventually put on life support and flown to a larger hospital in Moscow where she briefly awoke from her coma before dying from multiple organ failure. She was laid to rest on April 7. JAKARTA - Director of the ASEAN Study Center of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dafri Agussalim, stated that ASEANChina relations are still nuanced with competition rather than collaboration, which will create negative impacts, particularly among ASEAN member states. “The cooperation approach based on competition paradigm will result in imbalance in relations between ASEAN and China, as well as interfere with the cohesiveness, solidarity, and integrity among ASEAN countries,” he noted, during a seminar to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the ChinaASEAN Strategic Partnership in Jakarta, on Monday. Agussalim revealed that his argument was based on the fact that Chinese investment, which has been entering ASEAN market significantly, is mostly used for big industries such as infrastructure, mining, and capitaladvanced business, rather than the sectors that target middle and lower income people. According to him, the public sees Chinese investment as part of the Chinese hegemony against the ASEAN economy, which later spread suspicion, distrust, and negative sentiment towards the investment in the region. “Such economic relations and trade between the two sides are not responded properly and positively, and it also receives
negative response from the people of ASEAN countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia,” he noted. KPK named Supriono as a suspect on charge of accepting bribe and Erwan, Arfan and Saifuddin were charged with bribing the lawmaker, to help ensure that the regional legislative assembly approved a regional budget proposed by the provincial administration. Arfan, therefore, is suspect in two different cases. First he and Zumi Zola were charged with accepting bribe from business players and second he was involved in bribing lawmaker to speed up legislators’ approval for regional budget. KPK confiscated a total of Rp4.7 billion from those caught red handed by KPK. The money was to be used to bribe the regional lawmakers to approve the draft provincial budget. Kolaka government witnesses rise of new HIV infections
KOLAKA - The number of people suffering from HIV in Kolaka District, Southeast Sulawesi, has increased by 270 percent in 2017 as compared to that recorded in 2016. Head of the Kolaka Health Office Harun Massiri cited findings of the health office team on the field that showed several people, especially men, were infected with HIV. “The increase is very high in the last two years,” he remarked. Kolaka District is one of the
most open areas, with several people moving in and out of the area due to which the disease has easily spread from outside. According to Massiri, the onfield team had found that dozens of HIV sufferers were the local residents of Kolaka, especially men in the age group of some 25-45 years. “We cannot reveal the sufferers` identities due to privacy concerns. However, we have already cured them, including through medicines and counseling,” he stated.
In a bid to take precautionary measures against the transmission of the disease, the government has urged stakeholders, including religious scholars and leaders, to disseminate information and awareness of HIV among the local people. “I urge stakeholders to adopt effective approaches and conduct socialization, including highlighting the impact of HIV disease on the local people of Kolaka. Then, drain and pound until smooth. Rice flour is then clenchedfist and steamed. Once cooked, take out and douse with the extract of dracaena leaf and betel leaf, salt to taste and knead until smooth. Shape the batter by means of banana midrib by preparing the batter of a marble size. Place this batter on the banana midrib by doing serud-serud (pulling down gently) with the thumb, so that it will look like a flower. Subsequently, place on banana leaf and then steam. While waiting this, prepare brown sugar sauce by means of boiling and make grated coconut. Once cooked, take it out and cool down. Remove the jaja serud from banana leaves and then put on a plate. So, until now the total amount of rice logistics from the remaining stock plus the rice logistics returned by the Klungkung district has not yet been known in details. “Please ask directly to the agency head,” he said.
Similarly, he did not know where to be distributed the red wrapped package containing basic foods such as rice, instant noodles, cooking oil and other logistics. A spokesman for the railway ministry’s eastern division said none of about 1,000 passengers were injured in the incident Saturday night. But seven railway employees who did not follow proper procedures have been suspended and an
investigation launched into how the carriages became separated during the journey from the western state of Gujarat to Odisha, said spokesman JP Mishra. Authorities believe that brakes applied when carriages are detached or attached to the engine were either incorrectly used or overlooked altogether. “Something ghastly could have happened and it was averted by alert staff. Apple says all its facilities now powered by clean energy CALIFORNIA - Apple Inc (AAPL.O) on Monday said it had achieved its goal of powering all of the company’s facilities with renewable energy, a milestone that includes all of its data centers, offices and retail stores in 43 countries. The iPhone maker also said nine suppliers had recently committed to running their operations entirely on renewable energy sources like wind and solar, bringing to 23 the total number to make such a pledge. Major U.S. corporations such as Apple, Wal-Mart Inc (WMT.N) and Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) have become some of the country’s biggest buyers of renewable forms of energy, driving substantial growth in the wind and solar industries. Alphabet’s Google last year purchased enough renewable energy to cover all of its electricity consumption worldwide. Costs for solar and wind are plunging thanks to technological advances and increased global production of panels and turbines, enabling companies seeking to green their images to buy clean power at competitive prices. “We’re not spending any more than we would have,” Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president for environment, policy and social initiatives, said in an interview. “We’re seeing the benefits of an increasingly competitive clean energy market.” Renewable energy projects that provide power to Apple facilities range from large wind farms in the United States to clusters of hundreds of rooftop solar systems in Japan and Singapore. DLHK Badung closes landfill in Ungasan
MANGUPURA — A piece of land used as a landfill in Ungasan area was closed by the Badung Environment and Sanitation Agency (DLHK) on Sunday (Apr. 8). The 2.5-hectare illegal landfill is located on the west side of GWK.
Head of the Badung Environment and Sanitation Agency, Eka Merthawan, when asked for his confirmation said the closure of the landfill originated from a complaint from a French tourist because the garbage at the location generates stench and air pollution. Before closing, his agency already made data evaluation with the South Kuta subdistrict head, Ungasan, municipal police and related parties. He said the location was originally used as a feed processing plant since 2003. After that, due to unbalanced earnings, the owner switched to buy waste that can be processed. Furthermore, it developed into the location of scavengers. Good garbage is taken while the bad one is stockpiled there. The landfill currently expands with subscribers reaching 3,000 families from ten housing complexes. “There are ten housing complexes from three villages namely, Pecatu, Ungasan and Jimbaran,” he said. When making a site inspection, it was found if the location made into the illegal landfill is not licensed. Moreover, the location generates stinging smell and air pollution due to the smoke of burning. He mentioned such activities violate the Law No. 32/2009 on Environment and Waste Management. “It is also clearly governed in the Regional Regulation No. 7/2013,” he concluded. Currently, landowners are given leeway because the location cannot be closed directly. If closed immediately, surely it will affect the 3,000 customers. “We give tolerance for the temporary closing until April 15. After that, we will do sealing,” he said. Meanwhile, to prevent from generating stenches, he appealed to backfill the piling up garbage. For plastic waste, his agency allows to sort that can be sold. To create a clean environment in Badung, in the future his agency will also close the same business at other locations. When questioned, the landowner, I Wayan Nukarta, a resident of Angasari hamlet, Ungasan, South Kuta, admitted the activity has been going on since 2003. At that time, all villages in South Kuta threw garbage on his land. Since the amount of waste was too high, finally in 2009 he asked the village authority to handle it. All this time, each of the 3,000 families from ten housing complexes in South Kuta is charged for IDR 15,000 – IDR
20,000 per month. So far, the garbage collected amounts to 25 tons. To handle such amount of garbage, he hires 30 employees each day. Meanwhile, the Head of South Kuta Subdistrict, Made Widiana, when asked for his confirmation he firmly goes up against the existence of such illegal landfill. He hoped in the future there will be no unauthorized landfill in South Kuta
that pollutes the environment with a stinging smell. Ida Bagus Dedy Darmawan, Director of PT Sejagad Indi Perkasa, confirmed on Monday (Apr. 9) that many rogue developers participate in working on the program. Dedy said there are several factors triggering irresponsible parties to work on this project. “The price is cheap, so that consumers act unreasonably without considering whether the developers have good reputation or not. Seeing such condition, the government organizes a meeting to hold additional requirements,” he said. According to him, the FLPP (subsidized) house program is really capital intensive and unlike selling the plot of land. The agreement can only be made after the house has been established. To process the contract agreement, many requirements must also be met by consumers. Until now, Bank BTN is serious and has its support in this program. “Rouge developers usually work on their own land only or cooperation from the results of their speculation. They mostly do not understand the procedures. As consequence, the project is jammed and the losers will be consumers,” said Dedy. Responding to these conditions, Chairman of the REI Bali, Pande Agus Permana Widura, said his association still hoped consumers to select a developer more keenly. Before pur-
chasing, they should check first the legality of the developer because lately many developer organizations grow in Bali where each organization has different requirements. “The requirements can simplify or complicate the developers to join in the housing organization. This condition is sometimes difficult to control,” he said. However, REI Bali is very selective in approving new members. Moreover, his side did the screening before giving approval to new members. It is meant to take care of the quality of the developer itself, let alone the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) has made a very good system to prevent the presence of illegal developers in the procurement of subsidized homes. “Now, it highly depends on us in the organization how to respond to this wisely, instead of just approving the new developers without making an appropriate selection,” said Agus. Every developer of subsidized home must be registered in the organization. Otherwise, the developer cannot cooperate with the supporting bank. This system is made by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing so that one day if there is a problem with the developer, the ministry can easily browse through the organization. (rah)

The initial development fund is very minimal because we use the funds from the GGS program as much as IDR 70 million. By degrees, there are also donations from visitors. If calculated, the temple arrangement costs IDR 500 million excluding the independent fund of local community,” he said. At the beginning of development, only few tourists or people made visit to the Campuhan Temple. However, the current average has reached 100 people per day. The number
of visits will increase significantly on ritual days (rerainan) reaching thousands of people. Visitors are not only local or domestic tourists but also foreigners such as from Australia, Japan and the Netherlands. In the future, his organization will continuously develop the tourism potential currently untapped. Many small waterfalls and springs sit along the river that can be further explored for nature tourism. If calculated, the distance of the natural attractions from Taman Campuhan to the south is one km. In addition to exploring the river, the track also passes cemetery neatly arranged as well as the terraced rice field view. Various arrangements are expected to become the forerunner of tourism villages at this Abuan village. “We will develop this later by arranging the village potential. Indian tourist arrivals in Bali up 59.08 percent
DENPASAR - A total of 55,530 Indian tourists visited Bali during the January-February 2018 period, up by 20,624 people or 59.08 percent from 34,906 Indians during the same period in the previous year. “India is in the third rank of countries contributing the largest number of tourists to Bali Island, after China and Australia,” Adi Nugroho, head of the Bali statistic office, said here, Monday. Indian tourists constituted 6.9 percent of the total 805,538 tourist arrivals in Bali during the JanuaryFebruary 2018, down 11.94 percent from 914,809 tourist arrivals in the same period of last year. China contributed 23.67 percent
and Australia 19.57 percent to the total tourist arrivals in Bali, but the two countries` tourist arrivals were respectively down 35.56 percent and 13.20 percent in the first two months of this year. Japan contributed 4.45 percent, the UK 3.79 percent, the US 3.69 percent, Malaysia 3.34 percent, Russia 2.95 percent, South Korea 2.23 percent, and Taiwan 2.08 percent. Indonesia`s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has planned to serve a direct flights between Bali and Mumbai twice a week, starting April 23, 2018. In May 2018, Garuda will increase its Mumbai-Bali direct flights to trice a week. (ant)

One line reads, “Known for outlandish diva demands, from ordering dog chauffeurs to demanding 20 white kittens and 100 doves for a performance and even having bodyguards watch her eat, Mariah surprised everyone when she exclaimed the hostel was ‘Fabulous!’” Carey says, “For some reason, someone thought it would be funny to book me in a hostel. In the latest incident, 20 people died between Thursday and Monday in Cicalengka subdistrict near the West Java capital of Bandung. Head of the state-run hospital in Cicalengka, Yani Sumpena, said that 19 people died at the hospital and one was dead on arrival.
