NEW YORK - Nearly four years after the shocking massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, a new film, “Newtown,” explores how a small Connecticut town has coped with the aftermath of the deadliest shooting of schoolchildren in U.S. history. The film, which opens in New York on Friday, begins with a late-summer parade, a scene that highlights the innocence of what was in many ways a typical American town. It then switches to a recording of the 911 call on the morning in December 2012 when 20 first graders and six educators were shot dead by a disturbed young man. “Newtown” shows how the event changed life in the town forever. “It is that feeling of a joyful summer and then boom it’s gone,” said Kim A. Snyder, the director of the film, which made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival. Snyder, who spent three years on the project, found a strength and dignity in the people of Newtown as they attempted to come to grips with the unthinkable. “It explores the process of grief and efforts at making change,” the 55-year-old director explained. “Newtown” depicts members of the community as victims whose pain has endured long after the

MANGUPURA - Tourist arrival to Bali especially to Badung is estimated to reach the target. This is reflected in the number of commercial aircraft passengers at the Ngurah Rai International Airport showing an increase of 16 percent in September 2016. PT Angkasa Pura I (airport operator) noted that it has served 14.8 million passengers by the end of the third quarter when compared to September of last year with passenger amounting to 12.7 million. The Badung Tourism Office also records a quite fantastic figure of 3,119,956 travelers. The Head of the Badung Tourism Office, Cokorda Raka Darmawan, said that the travelers are still dominated by the Australian as well as Chinese market. “We are optimistic that the target of more than 4.3 million travelers can be reached this yearend. When compared to the same period in 2015, it shows an increase of 21.59 percent,” said Raka Darmawan.

Trail goes cold in German hunt for man suspected of planning bomb attack

BERLIN - The trail went cold on Sunday in a German police manhunt for a Syrian refugee suspected of planning a bomb attack after a raid on an apartment in which a cache of explosives was found. “We are following numerous tips, but unfortunately we don’t have a hot lead yet,” said Tom Bernhardt, spokesman for the Saxony state criminal investigation office. “We must continue to assume that this person poses a danger.” A security source told Reuters

that there was some evidence indicating the Syrian had Islamist leanings. “But this doesn’t automatically mean we are talking about IS (Islamic State). This could also be a case of self-radicalisation via the Internet.” Police appealed to the public for

any information on the suspect, 22year-old Jaber Albakr, after Saturday’s apartment raid in the eastern German city of Chemnitz. They described him as wearing a black hooded top with a bright pattern on the front, and warned people to be careful of him. Albakr had been in Germany since last year and was officially recognised as a refugee, Bernhardt said. He was not previously known to police, who raided the flat after

a tip-off from the domestic intelligence service. Police have begun investigating a second Syrian who rented the apartment that was raided and was known to Albakr. He was detained in Chemnitz on Saturday on suspicion of involvement in preparing a bomb attack with Albakr, Bernhardt said. Two other people detained in Chemnitz on Saturday have been released. Subak in Tabanan threatened by land shrinkage TABANAN - Tabanan has 229 subak (irrigation cooperative) organizations spread over ten subdistricts. One of the main functions of subak is governing the traditional agricultural irrigation. Requirements of establishing a subak include the existence of Bedugul temple, having a source of water and land area of at least 100 hectares. A total of 229 subak organizations in Tabanan remain to survive and none dissolves itself. However, the acreage of the subak is threatened by shrinkage due to land conversion to plantations or building function.

The Head of the Tabanan Agriculture and Food Crops Agency, Nyoman Budana, said that his agency continues to monitor the shrinkage of land every year. Each subak is required to report the amount of land area each year. If there is shrinkage, it must be reported along with the reason why it happens. Of the 229 subak organizations in Tabanan based on data from the Agriculture Agency in 2015, those having acreage under 100 hectares are 10 of 14 subak organizations in West Selemadeg, 11 of 19 subak organizations in Selemadeg and 17 of 26 subak organizations in East Selemadeg, 15 of 23 subak organizations in Kerambitan, 15 of 24 subak organizations in Tabanan, 8 of 23 subak organizations in Kediri, 14 of 34 subak organizations in Penebel and 17 of 18 subak organizations in

Pupuan. According to Budana, this time the subak in Tabanan remains to survive and there is even making an expansion as in the region of Selemadeg because it has a quite extensive land area. “However, it must still meet the necessary requirements and dissemination into the field before it is stipulated as a new subak,” explained Budana. Shrinkage of farmland is admitted to occur in Tabanan. Based on land area, the shrinkage averagely happens to 185.25 hectares per year or about 0.82 percent within the past five years (2010-2015). If seen from 2014 to 2015, the shrinkage of farmland area reached 248 hectares. Nevertheless, there is additional non-paddy field farmland where during the period of 2010-2015 the annual average increase reached

127.5 hectares or 0.32 percent. During the period of 2014-2015 there was additional non-paddy field farmland of 73 hectares or 0.18 percent. The non-paddy field farmland covers moor, plantations, community forests, pastures, national forests, dormant land and others like pool or pond. Of the land shrinkage, some are used for buildings such as residential, office and highway in which throughout the period of 20102015 the average land converted into building each year reached 57.60 hectares or 0.27 percent. In the meantime, during the period of 2014-2015 the area of paddy field area converted into building reached 175 hectares. Budana added that the assistance provided for subak organization is not in the form of cash, but in the form of fertilizer subsidies, aid of farming tools to repair supporting infrastructure such as irrigation, farm pathway and the establishment of gutter. In addition, the government helps market the agricultural products such as healthy rice. Currently, it is being developed the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes) that will help farmers to distribute their products. (kmb24)

Estonia’s wedge-shaped national museum opens on former Soviet airbase

TARTU - A 350-metre-long glass block ramps up from the runway of a former soviet airfield near the city of Tartu to form the Estonian National Museum, which officially opens to the public today (+ slideshow). Designed by Paris architecture office Dorell Ghotmeh Tane (DGT), the museum boasts a huge slanted roof that is designed as an extension of the old runway, located a few kilometres outside the city. DGT co-founders Lina Ghotmeh, Dan Dorell and Tsuyoshi Tane won a competition to design the museum in 2005 and first photographs of the building first emerged earlier this summer. But it officially opens to the public on 1 October 2016, following a press preview earlier this week. This new set of images show the museum and its landscaping just ahead of the opening. The 34,000-square-metre museum is the largest in the Baltic States. Its exhibitions chart Estonia’s history from the Stone Age to present day. “Designing a national museum for Estonia was an extraordinary challenge given the country’s many decades of tumultuous history, a history that is recent enough to still remain in the nation’s memory,” said the architects, referring to the country’s not-so-distant Soviet occupation. “The structure resembles a glass wedge inserted into the landscape that slowly reaches upward from the ground – a built allegory for the country’s emerging history,” they added. The facades are covered in a printed motif of an abstracted cornflower, Estonia’s national flower, giving the glazing a frosted appearance. A huge entrance is recessed into the tallest part of the building, which reaches 14 metres. Inside, gallery spaces, a conference hall, public library, auditoriums, educations rooms, offices and storage space for the museum’s collections are contained within a combination of glazed and opaque boxes. “The museum has waited for getting its real own home for 107 years and the cultural project to be completed now is the greatest in the history of independent Estonia in financial as well as spatial terms,” said the firm. Though having been regulated, hazardous substances often abused

DENPASAR - Actually the distribution of hazardous substances frequently abused for food such as formalin, borax, rhodamine B and metanil yellow has been set up in the decree of the Minister of Industry and Trade No.24/2006 concerning the supervision against production and the use of hazardous substances to the industry. On the other hand, these substances are required. For instance, formalin is used to preserve corpses and used in lumber mills, while borax is anti-fungal used for soldering and textile dyes used to dye clothes. “In other words, their distribution has been regulated by an agency, but not by the BPOM,” said Endang Widowati, the Chief of the Denpasar Agency of Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) in Denpasar, recently. If these substances are not misused in the food, the BBPOM will not intervene in the supervision. Since it is widely abused in food, the BBPOM also participates in securing food. Lately the distribution of formalin is tightened and limited only to preserve corpses. Her agency also hoped that similar regulation is applied to distribution of the three other hazardous substances. “The others like dye have been tightened and set forth in the ministerial regulation in terms of use and packaging. However, there are still people abuse it,” she said. In this case, there is supply

and demand. On that account, the BBPOM has cut off the distribution chain from the consumer and producer side. In the inspection carried out recently, her agency still found rhodamine B in Balinese muffin (apem) and jaja uli at Nyanggelan Market, Panjer. Of the inspection and sampling test conducted, it was still found rhodamine B, but formalin has begun to decrease though still found. “Yesterday, we took shrimp paste sold in kilogram unit but it no longer contained formalin and rhodamine B. We also took dried fish and fresh fish but the formalin test showed negative result,” she explained. No wonder if many foods contain hazardous substances lately. It happens because hazardous substances such as borax, formalin and rhodamine B are easily obtained. Dr. I Made Agus Gelgel Wirasuta, Chairman of the Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology of the Udayana University recently argued that the substance is easily obtained because they are not intended for food. Moreover, in Java the borax known as bleng has been familiarly used in food. However, he expressed that currently the distribution of formalin has been regulated and can only be used for embalming corpses so that it is now hard to get. “But the dye is still very easy to obtain in the community,” he added. A villa development at Perancak highlighted

NEGARA - Commission A of the Jembrana House of Representatives urged the municipal police and licensing office to check the construction of a villa at Perancak village. Based on the inspection conducted on Friday (Oct. 7), the Commission in charge of licensing found if the villa construction has not owned a permit. The legislators found a number of multi-storey buildings lining up in the construction phase planned for villa. After the inspection, a member of Commission A, Ketut Sadwi Darmawan, said that other than a unit of unlicensed villa, three of the 15 villas managed by PT Pasti cannot present the permit. Accompanied by another member of Commission A, Nyoman Sudiasa, Sadwi claimed to have asked municipal police and licensing office to follow it up. The management has also been reprimanded to complete the licensing first before doing the development. “We want the company complies with the rules and may not build illegally. The arrangement will be difficult,” said Sadwi who is also Chairman of the Gerindra Party. In addition, the legislators also highlighted the absence of

permit for the management office. It is said the management office remains in Gianyar. They also asked information about the taxes of villas and levies to local village. However, the management claimed that the data are still in Gianyar office and will be met within a week. In the meantime, the headman of Perancak, I Nyoman Wijana, said that based on information of the villa owner, it has actually submitted the permit and handled by the employee. However, he did not know about clarity whether it has building permit or not. “I have reminded, it is said that the permit is still being processed,” he explained. The headman also asked the

management to immediately complete the permit. It includes the permit of the management office as recommended by the Commission A, so that it will be located at Perancak. According to him, operations of the villas have absorbed approximately 200 local residents of Perancak as the workers including the construction workers at the villa. In addition, the villa has paid levies to the village at IDR 25,000 per occupying guest. From the observation, though it has not owned a permit, there are at least four multi-storey buildings lining up. According to worker, it will be built again 30 units of villa within the land surrounded by compound wall. Separately, the Chief of the Jembrana Municipal Police, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Budhi, claimed to have received instruction related to the inspection of the Commission A. SEMARAPURA - The waters of Nusa Penida is back to claim a fatality. This time is Japanese citizen on behalf of Shuta Matsuda who was swept away while swimming on the Ceningan Beach, exactly on Secret Beach, Friday (Oct. 7). Until Saturday night, the existence of the Japanese man was not found yet. As the information obtained in the field on Saturday afternoon, the victim (Shuta Matsuda—Ed) was known to disappear as swept away by tides around 14:30. The accident started when the victim was bathing in the area of Ceningan Beach. Well, when swimming three meters from the shore, the victim was then rolled up and missing in the waves. This incident was then heard by the staff of villa where the victim was staying. After that, it was reported to the rescue team. However, until Saturday afternoon the existence of victim has not been found. A number of police officers from local sector have gone down to Ceningan and Lembongan to do a search. Unfortunately, the search of victim with the help of fishermen has not showed a result.

Chief of the Klungkung Water Police, Putu Ardana, when asked for his confirmation on Friday he acknowledged the missing tourist as swept away on Ceningan Beach. However, he did not know exactly what happened to the travelers. He just knew if the tourist was missing as swept away while bathing on the beach. “As temporary information, the victim disappeared when taking a bath. And now we are still gathering data on the incident,” said Putu Ardana. According to Ardana, the search for victim was just carried out by the officers of water police in cooperation with the Nusa Penida police around the location where the victim last disappeared. The search was also conducted with the help of fishermen. However, the search effort carried out by the officers has not given results. “We just did the search, and we have been coordinating with the rescue team to continue the search for the victim,” said Putu Ardana, while adding to make a report related to the incident to district police chief. CALIFORNIA - Two police officers were shot and killed in the Southern California desert town of Palm Springs on Saturday after they were called to a family dispute and came under fire as they arrived on the scene, local police said. A third officer was wounded in the afternoon shooting, Police Chief Bryan Reyes told a news conference. Police closed off nearby blocks as they searched for a suspect on Saturday night. The officers who were killed were identified as Jose Vega, a 35-year veteran who was due to retire in December, and 27-year-old Lesley Zerebny, who had been an officer for about a year and a half and was the mother of a four-month-old baby. “I am awake in a nightmare right now,” Reyes told reporters. One witness said the suspect’s father told her his son expressed a desire to kill police just moments before the shooting, The Desert Sun newspaper reported. “He came over and asked for help,” Frances Serrano said of the father, who added that his son had mental issues, according to the newspaper.

Dozens of police rushed to the scene in a residential neighborhood of Palm Springs, a normally placid resort community about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. Police in tactical gear surrounded the home, with an armored assault vehicle stationed in front of the house. It was possible the suspect remained in the house or had escaped the area, Reyes said. Local media later showed robots being deployed in the area. Officers went to the home after a female caller said her son was causing a disturbance, Reyes said. The officers were outside trying to negotiate with the suspect when shooting began. “It was a simple family disturbance, and he elected to open fire on a few of the guardians of this city,” Reyes said. The wounded officer was alert and “doing well,” Reyes added. A neighbor, Juan Graciano, 67, said he heard angry shouting between a father and son who live at the residence before the father emerged from the home, crossed the street and asked another neighbor to call for help. IMF members to push spending, revive trade to boost growth

WASHINGTON - The International Monetary Fund’s member countries on Saturday pledged to revive flagging global trade, boost government spending and remove barriers to business to fight weak growth that has left too many people behind.

The pledge came as world finance leaders fretted over a rising populist backlash against trade and globalization at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Washington. “The persistently low growth has exposed underlying structural weaknesses and risks further dampening potential growth and prospects for inclusiveness,” the Fund’s steering committee said in a communique. Britain’s vote in June to leave the European Union, U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s anti-trade rhetoric and a global slowdown in trade volumes have prompted policymakers to try do a better job selling the benefits of global economic integration to the general public. The International Monetary and Financial Committee said uncertainty and downside risks to the global recovery were elevated, and that it was increasingly threatened by protectionist policies and stalled reforms. “We reinforce our commitment to strong, sustainable, inclusive, job-rich and more balanced growth. We will use all policy tools - structural reforms, fiscal and monetary policies - both individually and collectively,” it said. firms. “It’s important part of pushing forward a new round of high-level opening up,” the statement said. In the future, except for certain sensitive industries in which access for foreign companies is restricted, foreign investments would only require registration, rather than approval. The statement did not offer details on how the new system

would work. It also said the Chinese government would take further steps to improve market entry for foreign companies. The State Council’s statement comes at a time when the foreign business community in China has become highly critical of the current unbalanced access for foreign companies in China. JAKARTA - An increasing number of Indonesians are taking a stand against digital games like Pokemon Go that they say erode values, and encouraging children to play traditional toys like wooden spinning tops and bamboo pinwheels. Tens of thousands of Indonesians were hooked on Nintendo’s augmented reality app, in which players hunt virtual characters in real-life places, months before the smash-hit game was officially launched in the Southeast Asian country. But parents and teachers worry that children get too caught up in the virtual world and are missing out on interacting with each other. Some parents are nostalgic about the games they used to play and want to introduce their children to them. Hundreds of parents and children attended a traditional games festival on a recent weekend at the Pilar Bangsa, or “pillar of the nation”, school in West Jakarta. A gaggle of children huddled around a wooden board, taking turns shooting marbles at goal posts made of rubber bands in a version of table soccer. Others were tying strings around tops and spinning them on a circular platform. “Traditional games involve more

activities, whereas electronic games only require kids to use their thumbs,” said Januar Surjadi, who was teaching his three-year-old boy to play with a bamboo toy that made a clicking sound when spun. Some games like “wayang”, or traditional puppets, and “congklak”, which requires players to collect as many “seeds” as possible in the holes of a wooden set, have been passed down through generations. Pilar Bangsa Principal Agustinus, who goes by one name, said his school would organise more events to introduce kids to traditional games. “We want to show the unique features of Indonesia, that it has a rich culture.” His school is not the only one. Rescuers seek eight missing students in Bengawan Solo River

BOJONEGORO - The Search and Rescue Team of Tuban District, East Java, is searching for eight students who went missing on Bengawan Solo River after their boat capsized on Friday. Head of Emergency Response and Logistics of Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Tuban Asep said here, Friday, that the eight students were among 25 students who were on board the boat. The students departed from their school, an Islamic boarding school in Langitan Wadang, Tuban, to visit Babat Market, located in neighboring Lamongan District, by boat, intending to cruise along Javas longest river. “The boat capsized during the trip from the Islamic boarding school to Babat Market. It might have been caused by overloading,” Asep suggested. Seventeen students managed to escape the strong current of Bengawan Solo River, while the other eight are still missing. The BPBD of Tuban is conducting a search operation assisted by the search and rescue team and locals. The eight missing students have been identified as Ahmad Umar (12), Abdullah Umar (15), M Barikli Amri (12), M. Lujianidani (13), M. PLN promotes electricity in Indonesia, Timor Leste border areas KUPANG - The National Electricity Company (PLN) in the East Nusa Tenggara region is promoting the construction of power related infrastructure in three border areas of Indonesia and Timor Leste. “These locations are Motaain dan Motamasin in Belu district and Wini in North Timor Tengah district,” the General Manager of PLN in the East Nusa Tenggara region, Richard Safkaur, said here on Friday. He added that the PLN has surveyed the three locations. “We are ready to connect Motaain to electricity supply system. The president is scheduled to visit the region this month,” Richard added. According to him, the construction of the electricity network, providing 240 kilovolt ampere (kVa), will be completed by the second week of October 2016. Meanwhile, the electricity project in Motamasin is estimated to be completed by the second week of November 2016 and will supply 555 kVa of power. Richard said these three locations along the countrys area directly bordering Timor Leste. CHARLESTON - Matthew was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone on Sunday as it struck North Carolina and Virginia with a diminished yet still potent punch, causing flooding and widespread power outages along the U.S. Atlantic coast after killing hundreds in Haiti. The most powerful Atlantic storm since 2007 unleashed torrential rains and powerful winds as it churned slowly north after pummeling the southeastern coast of the United States, killing at least 11 people in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina since Thursday and leaving more than two million businesses and homes without power. Damage in the United States, however, was much less than in Haiti, where Matthew took nearly 900 lives. LONDON - Middleweight champion Michael Bisping finally avenged the most devastating loss of his career by claiming a close decision victory over Dan Henderson in a thrilling title fight at UFC 204 in Manchester on Saturday. Hometown favourite Bisping finished the brutal five-round battle with his face swollen and bloodied after he flirted with disaster against his veteran American opponent before finally retaining the belt thanks to the judges scorecards. The 37-year-old won the title in sensational fashion in June, stepping up to fight Luke Rockhold at short notice at UFC 199 and knocking him out in the opening round to become the first British UFC champion. He immediately called out the 46-yearold Henderson, who knocked him out in 2009 in what he called “the worst knockout in UFC history”, and despite his plans to retire, the former Olympic wrestler duly obliged. The fighters entered the octagon at 4:30 a.m. (0330 GMT) to cater for the American pay per view audience and after a cagey start, the fight exploded into life late in the first round.

Henderson floored Bisping with a thundering right hand but despite the American piling on the punishment, the champion was able to survive until the end of the round. Bisping ignored the blood streaming down his face and started the second by landing some stinging shots of his own, but with a little more than a minute to go, Henderson uncorked another right hand to floor the champion for a second time. Once again, Bisping held on grimly to the end of the round and with Henderson breathing heavily, the Briton bounced back to take the third round. Both men had their chances in the fourth and fifth rounds, but Bisping just about did enough to shade it on the scorecards. “This guy is incredible. At his age, he just kicked my ass. You’ve got to respect the guy he’s a legend,” a gracious but battered Bisping said in a post-bout interview after the decision was announced. For Henderson it was to be his last professional fight and while he will be remembered as a UFC great, he goes into retirement without ever having won a belt in mixed martial arts’ largest and most prestigious circuit. Sp rt Southgate steadies England after latest turbulent chapter

LONDON — Just like a month ago, a new England managerial era opened with a win on Saturday. In World Cup qualifying, it’s two wins out of two — with two different managers. Gareth Southgate will be hoping to last longer than speedily dismissed predecessor Sam Allardyce’s 67 days. There’s no certainty. Far from it. The 2-0 victory over Malta on Saturday was the first of only four games Southgate knows he could have to transform perceptions of international football’s most scrutinized, yet underwhelming and ridiculed teams. Every moment patrolling the touchline, reconfiguring his tactics and explaining his decisions in public, the 46-year-old caretaker coach is being judged by the Football Association. The unassuming victory over Malta was very much in the mold of England’s new, placid manager whose character contrasts sharply with the brash and boastful Allardyce. The opponents were unambitious but so was England with a performance lacking dynamism and urgency once the lead had been established in the first half by Daniel Sturridge’s header from Jordan Henderson’s cross, and Dele Alli’s strike. “There’s certainly room for improvement but that’s not a bad place for us to be,” Southgate said. “In the second half subconsciously there was a feeling the game was won and they were looking forward towards Tuesday (against Slovenia), physically. The players might be preserving

their energy. But Southgate, who played at three tournaments with England, has to seize every moment if he is to lead the team into the 2018 World Cup in Russia. By next month, after more demanding on-field assignments against Slovenia, Scotland, and Spain, Southgate could be returning to the under-21s team after just 49 days with the senior side if results don’t go his way, or if a more experienced coach is desired. “I would have liked us to have won by the bigger scoreline,” Southgate said. “I want my teams to attack and I want them to play very good football. At times, some of the flicks and things didn’t come off. “You are playing against a 5-4-1 that limits the space and maybe we tried some passes which were too difficult at times.” Southgate was also diplomatic. As interim coach, he can’t afford to lose the dressing room. “I’m not going to be critical of the players,” he said. “They’ve had to pick up from two changes of managers and a complete change from the way we have worked.” The first change followed the embarrassment of the European Championship in June when Eng-

land was eliminated by Iceland and Roy Hodgson’s hopes of a new contract ended. In came the fierce patriot whose pride at landing the job of a lifetime was not matched by his awareness of the responsibilities of holding the prestigious job. Before Allardyce had even taken charge of his first — and only game — in September against Slovakia, he had fallen for a newspaper sting. Once video emerged last week of Allardyce appearing to offer advice to fictitious businessmen on how to sidestep an outlawed player transfer practice, and also negotiating a 400,000 pound (about $500,000) public-speaking contract, the FA quickly parted company with him. It was the latest turbulent chapter for a country which hosts the world’s richest soccer league and has excessively high expectations for a national team whose one and only trophy came in the 1966 World Cup. And yet the fans still turn out to watch the team, even when modest, unappealing opposition come to Wembley. Southgate’s England managerial debut was watched by more than 80,000 in the north London stadium. “Given the situation I picked up about 12 days ago, we’ve internally come a hell of a long way,” said Southgate, whose only previous senior management job was with Middlesbrough from 2006 to 2009. JOHANNESBURG - Dieumerci Mbokani scored twice as the Democratic Republic of Congo made an emphatic start to the group phase of Africa’s World Cup qualifiers with a 4-0 thumping of Libya while both the Ivory Coast and Senegal also emerged victorious on Saturday. Lazio striker Balde Diao Keita struck in the first half and substitute Moussa Sow in the 80th minute as Senegal went top of Group D with an uninspiring 2-0 home win over the Cape Verde Islands in Dakar. A packed 56,000 crowd at the National Stadium in Warsaw saw the home team go in front in the 20th minute when Kamil Grosicki delivered a cross and Lewandowski scored from close range. Poland kept attacking, mainly down the wings, and Lewandowski made it 2-0 with a penalty nine minutes before halftime. Full back Jannik Vestergaard brought down Arek Milik six metres out and Lewandowski sent keeper Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way from the spot. HAMBURG - Thomas Mueller scored twice for the second World Cup qualifier in a row to lead dominant Germany to a comprehensive 3-0 win over Czech Republic on Saturday. Toni Kroos was also on target to leave the world champions on six points from two games in Group C, alongside Azerbaijan after they beat Norway 1-0 in Baku with an early goal by Maksim Medvedev, and firmly on course for the finals in Russia in 2018. The Czechs, who have one point, won 3-0 on their last visit to Germany in 2007 in the early days of coach Joachim Loew’s long reign but never threatened a repeat. “I’m very satisfied, we had control of the game for the whole time,” said Loew. “We built up our moves very well from the back.
