LONDON - British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, tipped for an Oscar for his performance as mathematician Alan Turing, said on Wednesday he hopes the film will be a worthy tribute to the wartime codebreaker persecuted for being gay. The “Sherlock Holmes” star spoke at the European premiere of “The Imitation Game”, one of several biographical films to dominate the programme of the 58th London Film Festival. Turing was a computer scientist ahead of his time and the film coincides with the 60th anniversary of his death. He was prosecuted for homosexuality in 1952 when it was a crime in Britain, despite the fact that he had played a crucial role in deciphering German codes that experts say accelerated the fall of Adolf Hitler.
Forced to undergo chemical castration, Turing killed himself at the age of 41. He was officially pardoned only last year by Queen Elizabeth II, six decades after his tragic death. “I really want his story to be known as broadly as possible,” Cumberbatch said at the screening. “I hope it will be a launching point for more interest and understanding and a proper celebration for Alan Turing.” Cumberbatch shrugged off talk that he could land the Oscar for best actor in the film, which won the people’s choice award at the Toronto Film Festival and also stars British actress Keira Knightley. Knightley plays code-breaker Joan Clarke at the Bletchley Park decryption centre, where the German ‘Enigma’ code was cracked, shortening the war by two years and saving 14

million lives, according to the film. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star said that women still struggle with the same issues as Clarke, hired because she could crack codes faster than Turing but who struggled to be taken seriously. “What she was fighting for was a place at the table and equal pay, and I think that those are still the two main things that feminists today are fighting for, and there’s still inequality,” Knightley said. Norwegian director Morten Tyldum said he felt the story resonated with his life. “I just moved to Hollywood and I was an outsider in Hollywood. To me this is a movie about outsiders, about those who are different, who think outside the norm. There was something about that story that really struck me,” Tyldum said.

LOS ANGELES — Paula Patton has filed for divorce from Robin Thicke and is asking for joint custody of their son. The “Precious” and “2 Guns” actress filed for divorce from the “Blurred Lines” and “Give It 2 U” singer Friday in Los Angeles, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The 38-year-old actress and 37-year-old singer announced they were separating in February after nine years of marriage. They have a 4-year-old son. Patton was the inspiration behind much of Thicke’s music and appeared in some of his videos. The crooner’s latest album,
“Paula,” sold only 24,000 units in the U.S. when it was released in July. Thicke’s previous album, “Blurred Lines,” sold 177,000 units when it debuted last year. Thicke promoted “Paula” with several public appearances that were accompanied by reconciliation pleas.

MANGUPURA - Not all the rafting companies operating in the Ayung River have owned a license. Unfortunately, the number of unlicensed companies is more than the licensed ones. Complexity of bureaucracy at the Bali government as the issuer of rafting permit is accused of becoming the cause of the difficulty to establish a company. As a result, they recklessly establish rafting company without permit. It was revealed during a site inspection of Deputy Regent of Badung, I Made Sudiana, to Bongkasa Pertiwi village, Abiansemal subdistrict, Tuesday (Oct 7). Headman of Bongkasa Pertiwi, Made Suarjana, stated that among the 14
rafting companies operating in the area or in Badung territory, only 4 companies had owned a permit. Suarjana mentioned that the rafting entrepreneurs mostly consisting of local people admitted to be reluctant to submit the permit. According to him, the permit process in Bali government was considered very complicated. Even, there was an impression if the permit submission was intentionally complicated. “Bali government deliberately complicates the issuance of rafting permit for local entrepreneurs,” he said. All this time, local entrepreneurs complained about the services in the permit submission. Local entrepreneurs, said Suarjana, considered to have been discriminated. Local entrepreneurs were very difficult
to submit their permit, while the entrepreneurs with large capital from outside Bali seemed to be facilitated. “Investors from outside Bali are actually easy to get the permit. It is very strange. The government should prioritize local entrepreneurs,” he protested. Being illegal, many rafting companies owned by local people finally went bankrupt. Actually in terms of facilities and human resources, many local rafting companies were not inferior to rafting companies owned by investors from outside. Surely this condition was very detrimental to local community. On the one hand, people did not want to just become a spectator at their home village, while on the other hand, the opportunity to get
involved in business even seemed to be hampered. Related to this matter, the Head of Badung Government Tourism Office, Tjokorda Raka Darmawan, admitted if there were still many unlicensed rafting companies. The main problem was to get a permit. According to him, every rafting company should have a business entity like the Limited Liability Company (PT). He said that people considered it quite complex so that they were reluctant to form a business entity and the permit could not consequently be issued. “They were reluctant to establish a PT, so that they could not get a permit,” he said. He further added that the obligation to have a legal entity for the
entrepreneurs was actually good. Thus, the company running the rafting business could be disciplined and had a clear legal entity or did not make a business perfunctorily. The government wanted the public to manage their business more professionally, especially the business getting involved in travelers as well as high risk. Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Badung, I Made Sudiana, stated that the complaints of local entrepreneurs related to the permit process should receive special attention. According to him, local entrepreneurs should be given priority and facilitated so as not to be marginalized in their own territory. His party also promised to find out a solution for the problem. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

PARIS — Once one of the biggest names in fashion design, John Galliano has been given a second chance three years after leaving Christian Dior in disgrace. He will take the creative helm of avant-garde Paris house Maison Martin Margiela, it was announced Monday. The British designer almost completely disappeared from the spotlight after being caught on video slurring “I love Hitler” in 2011. The flamboyant designer was later convicted by a French court on complaints of anti-Semitic behavior. During his trial, his defense team acknowledged his addictions to alcohol, sleeping pills and Valium. Galliano avoided prison, but the 53-year-old had to pay a fine of €13,500 ($19,000) in civil damages. An internship in 2013 at Oscar de la Renta signaled Galliano was beginning his return to the industry, and Monday’s announcement confirmed that he’ll be back shaking things up in Paris, where he first made his name.
“John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time,” said Renzo Rosso, the president of the Martin Margiela house owner, OTB. “I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create.” Maison Martin Margiela, which produces ready-to-wear as well as couture, was founded in 1988 by the eponymous Belgian designer, known for his conceptual deconstruction designs and widely associated with the influential group of fashion designers known as the Antwerp Six. Martin Margiela left the house he founded in 2009, a departure that was shrouded in mystery and was a big creative blow to the house. Since then, an H&M collaboration in 2012 and a string of more conventional presentations led some critics to say that the house had sold out. Time will tell if Galliano, whose designs once bowled over the fashion world for their feminine theatricality, will be able to reconcile this with Margiela’s more conceptual aesthetic and give back the house its edge.

Red and pink manicures have long been joined by edgy hues including black and turquoise. Bolder fashionistas are adorning their pointed, squared or indented “Russian” tips with bespoke painted images, glitz and 3-D sculptures. The opposable thumb, impressive on its own, becomes even more so. Nail biting amounts to defacing a masterpiece. Artwork that’s just an arm’slength away at all times is “better

DENPASAR - Aside from engaging in promiscuity, free sex and drugs, now a number of junior high school students are moonlighting as gigolo in Kuta. Even, they target drunken foreign tourists and ask for payment at IDR 50,000. who want to use their services. Their target is mostly drunken tourists. They usually hang out on the beach,” he said. Oka admitted to be deeply concerned to see the behavior of students and teenagers in Bali today. Instead of studying well at school, they even made money that way. “My clients are from Southern Kuta and joined with people from outside Bali. They deliberately peddled his cock for drunken people,” said the teenage behavior observer. The money earned was not
used for living expenses, but for parties and clubbing. The fire could be extinguished several hours later, around 2:30 p.m. According to Sugiarta, the fire was alleged to occur due to negligence factor. Rich economies should cut debt but spend for jobs
WASHINGTON - The International Monetary Fund said Wednesday that advanced economies still hold too much debt, but even as they trim it they need to spend more to generate jobs. After government debt loads soared in the crisis that began in 2008, they have now stabilized, the IMF’s new assessment of global fiscal strength says. But debt, as a ratio to gross domestic product, is still high and needs to be reduced further in the richest economies, it stressed. The Fund sees the average debt burden for advanced countries rising slightly to 106.5 percent of GDP this year before slipping to 106 percent by the end of next year. For advanced economies as a group, “it is still expected to exceed 100 percent of GDP at the end of the decade. It is important to continue to reduce debt to safer levels and rebuild fiscal buffers,” the Fund said. Yet, with joblessness still high
in many of the leading economies, the IMF cautioned governments against excessive spending cuts and debt reduction that would impact growth and job-creation activities. “Hesitant recovery and persistent risks of lowflation and reform fatigue call for fiscal policy that carefully balances support for growth and employment creation with fiscal sustainability,” the Fund said. While it stressed each country’s situation is different, the Fund said that in areas where the jobs market is stifled by regulations -- an issue that arose in the IMF-supported rescue of Greece -- a “transitory” loosening of government spending policy can buy time to implement labor market reforms. In addition, government’s can better target their spending to address labor market challenges, such as high youth unemployment and low participation by women. “Measures targeted to specific segments of the labor force have been found to be more cost-effective than blanket ones,” it said.

This latest signal of gloom for the eurozone came the day after the International Monetary lowered its forecast for growth in the 18member single currency area. “In Europe, signs are emerging of a loss of growth momentum in the Euro area,” the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development said. Its latest composite leading indicators, CLIs, which it calculates monthly to show trends in economic activity, point to a slowdown in momentum in Germany and Italy, with France stable. On Tuesday, the IMF cut sharply its eurozone growth forecast to 0.8 percent and warned that the single currency bloc faces a long period of
sluggish activity and dangerously low inflation which the European Central Bank must tackle. And earlier this week Germany reported a 5.7-percent slump in August factory orders and a 4.0 percent drop in industrial output, which analysts said meant there would likely be little rebound from the 0.2 percent contraction posted in the second quarter. The OECD’s CLI for Germany began dropping earlier this year and in August, the last month calculated, fell below the long-term average of 100 points, dropping from 100.1 to 99.7 points. The OECD said its CLIs pointed to stable growth momentum for the United States, Britain and Canada, as well as in emerging markets Brazil, China and Russia. It said Japan’s CLI points to a loss of momentum, but that this may be due to one-off factors. India’s CLI points to accelerating growth momentum, but is still below the long-term trend.

DENPASAR - The Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) located in Serangan, Denpasar, Bali, released 850 hatchlings on the Serangan Beach, Bali, in an effort to preserve the animal species, which are protected under law. “We have released 850 hatchlings and two green turtles to their habitats,” Wayan Geriya, the manager of TCEC, stated on Wednesday. He revealed that the hatchlings were bred under captivity in TCEC. Earlier, the turtle eggs were collected from several areas in the vicinity of Serangan, Gianyar, and Klungkung beaches. “There are some eggs bred in captivity that were given by the fishermen who care about the environment, especially the turtle habitats,” Geriya noted. The TCEC has expressed appreciation to the fishermen and communities for their efforts in caring for the environment by handing over the turtle eggs found along the coastline to the center. According to him, the Balinese communities really care about the turtles. All sides including the administration, private bodies, and the public are working in tandem to preserve the animal species. “The hatchlings are released on several beaches in Bali,” Geriya stated, adding that this activity has become a special program for some organizations and communities. German exports contracted by a massive 5.8 percent in August -- the steepest drop since January 2009 -causing the trade surplus to shrink to 17.5 billion euros. In neighbouring France, exports dropped by 1.3 percent, pushing the trade deficit up to 5.8 billion euros, the highest figure since January. France’s big trade deficit is worsening with the United States and with Asia, notably because of a decline in Airbus deliveries. The German statistics office Destatis explained that the late timing of the summer holidays -- in August instead of in July -- had weighed on economic
activity. German factory orders and industrial output had already fallen in August for the same reason. However, analysts have so far insisted that the weakness will be short-lived. But the disappointing export data could now suggest that the fallout from the Ukraine crisis is proving more severe than initially anticipated. The data showed that exports to the EU rose by 2.0 percent, with eurozone exports edging up by just 0.2 percent. Exports to countries outside Europe, however, slumped by 4.7 percent. “The German economy has experienced an extremely sharp stand-still in August. Industrial production, new
orders and exports were down. And the magnitude of the fall brings back memories of the peak of the financial crisis in early 2009,” said ING DiBa economist Carsten Brzeski. The development was not easy to explain, he said. “Of course, the cooling of many export destinations combined with increased uncertainty stemming from the Ukrainian crisis look like the main drivers of the slowdown but in our view fall short explaining the entire story,” he said. “Looking ahead ... the economy seems to need a small miracle in September to avoid a recession in the third quarter,” he warned. The German economy contracted by 0.2 percent in the second quarter and a renewed drop in the third quarter would technically put the country in recession.

CHILPANCINGO, Mexico — Tens of thousands of teachers, activists and residents marched and blocked a major highway in the Guerrero state capital Wednesday to protest the disappearance of 43 teachers college students and demand that authorities find them. The protesters shut down the highway that links Mexico City with Acapulco, marching behind a banner asking “Who governs Guerrero?” — a reference to the fact that local police working with organized crime have been implicated in the disappearances in the city of Iguala.

Investigators still had no word on whether the 28 bodies found in a mass grave over the weekend included any of the missing students, who disappeared after two attacks allegedly involving Iguala police in which six people were killed and at least 25 wounded. An uncle stopped by to drop off some money but left without touching them for fear of infection. If the children sat down somewhere, people would spray bleach after they got up. When they tried to buy something with what little money they had, vendors refused to serve them. Women took the long path to the well to avoid the house. “Why don’t you want to talk to me? Why God does nobody want to come around? We are human beings,” Promise sobbed. Finally she scraped together enough change from a cousin to take a taxi to the Ebola clinic to check on her father. She and Ruth paced outside the barbed-
wire topped walls of the clinic for what felt like hours, waiting for an answer on when he would be coming home. Then a security guard came back: Emmanuel Cooper Senior was on the list of the dead. The girls broke down sobbing. No one could tell them if 11-year-old Emmanuel was still alive either. Even as Promise mourned her parents, a community leader named Kanyean Molton Farley took the children under his wing. Farley did human rights research by day and tried to help the neighborhood’s orphaned children by night. He worried that Promise could fall prey to an older man. At 16 and hungry, she was vulnerable to abuse. Then the Cooper children caught another lucky break: Promise saw her brother’s face on television among government photos of children who had survived Ebola at the city’s clinics but were still separated from their families. “It’s him, it’s him!” she told Molton. Off they went to get Emmanuel — the first in the family to survive the plague sweeping their neighborhood. But not long after Emmanuel came home, Ruth became feverish and unwell. How could this be happening again? A terrified Promise called Farley again. He couldn’t get them an ambulance until morning because of the curfew, so he told her to use mattresses as room dividers in the single bedroom where they all slept. and mineral resources minister and senior member of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s Democrat Party, in an extortion case in which he allegedly amassed Rp9.9 billion during his ministerial term 2011-12.
According to the investigation of the anti-graft body, Jero ordered his staff to generate additional funds to meet his operational costs. Jero’s staff then carried out bogus activities and managed to find several sponsors. Jero allegedly extorted money from various parties by citing that the operational budget set aside for energy and mineral resources minister for the 2011-13 period was less than the allocation during the
2004-2011 period, when he was the minister for tourism and creative energy. It is a new-look Spain that is bidding to win their third consecutive European Championship following their failure at the World Cup in Brazil where the reigning champions crashed out in the group stage. Since then, midfielders Xavi and Xabi Alonso and striker David Villa, figureheads of Spain’s recent golden period, have all decided to retire from the international game and allow new blood to come through. Spain’s success since their Euro 2008 triumph has been founded on their ability to gradually incorporate new players into the fold and, while this has not been a revolution, there has been a notable change to the core of the

LONDON - Manchester United can give up hope of signing AS Roma’s Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman in the next transfer window, the Italian club’s owner told the BBC on Wednesday. United, managed by Strootman’s former national coach Louis van Gaal, have been strongly linked with the player who is still recuperating after suffering a serious knee injury in March. “It is just not happening,” James Pallotta said at the Leaders in Football Conference. “I have told the papers that they should stop wasting paper. We don’t have any interest in selling Kevin.”

BARCELONA - Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke is part of a fresh generation of Spain players aiming to make an impact in Euro 2016 qualifying and says he would be happy if he achieves half the success of retired great Xavi. It is a new-look Spain that is bidding to win their third consecutive European Championship following their failure at the World Cup in Brazil where the reigning champions crashed out in the group stage. Since then, midfielders Xavi and Xabi Alonso and striker David Villa, figureheads of Spain’s recent golden period, have all decided to retire from the international game and allow new blood to come through. Spain’s success since their Euro 2008 triumph has been founded on their ability to gradually incorporate new players into the fold and, while this has not been a revolution, there has been a notable change to the core of the
current side. Captain Iker Casillas remains, but there is now an opportunity for young players like Koke, still only 22, to establish himself in midfield. “I hope I can achieve half what he (Xavi) has done,” Koke told Spanish radio. “Xavi has achieved everything with the national team and been a fundamental player. He has won everything for Barcelona and here.” Koke came to the fore with Atletico last season with the quality of his crosses and passing helping them to win La Liga and reach the Champions League final.

LONDON - Manchester United can give up hope of signing AS Roma’s Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman in the next transfer window, the Italian club’s owner told the BBC on Wednesday. United, managed by Strootman’s former national coach Louis van Gaal, have been strongly linked with the player who is still recuperating after suffering a serious knee injury in March. “It is just not happening,” James Pallotta said at the Leaders in Football Conference. “I have told the papers that they should stop wasting paper. CHILPANCINGO, Mexico — Tens of thousands of teachers, activists and residents marched and blocked a major highway in the Guerrero state capital Wednesday to protest the disappearance of 43 teachers college students and demand that authorities find them. The protesters shut down the highway that links Mexico City with Acapulco, marching behind a banner asking “Who governs Guerrero?” — a reference to the fact that local police working with organized crime have been implicated in the disappearances in the city of Iguala.
“Whose hands are we in?” said Rosa Ruth Rodriguez Mendiola, a housewife from the city of Atoyac who joined in the march in Chilpancingo. Investigators still had no word on whether the 28 bodies found in a mass grave over the weekend included any of the missing students, who disappeared after two attacks allegedly involving Iguala police in which six people were killed and at least 25 wounded. The students from the radical rural teachers college had gone to Iguala to solicit donations from passers-by. When they tried to buy something with what little money they had, vendors refused to serve them. Women took the long path to the well to avoid the house. “Why don’t you want to talk to me? Why God does nobody want to come around? We are human beings,” Promise sobbed. Finally she scraped together enough change from a cousin to take a taxi to the Ebola clinic to check on her father. She and Ruth paced outside the barbed-
wire topped walls of the clinic for what felt like hours, waiting for an answer on when he would be coming home. Then a security guard came back: Emmanuel Cooper Senior was on the list of the dead. The girls broke down sobbing. No one could tell them if 11-year-old Emmanuel was still alive either. Even as Promise mourned her parents, a community leader named Kanyean Molton Farley took the children under his wing. Farley did human rights research by day and tried to help the neighborhood’s orphaned children by night. He worried that Promise could fall prey to an older man. At 16 and hungry, she was vulnerable to abuse. Then the Cooper children caught another lucky break: Promise saw her brother’s face on television among government photos of children who had survived Ebola at the city’s clinics but were still separated from their families. “It’s him, it’s him!” she told Molton. Off they went to get Emmanuel — the first in the family to survive the plague sweeping their neighborhood. But not long after Emmanuel came home, Ruth became feverish and unwell. How could this be happening again? A terrified Promise called Farley again. He couldn’t get them an ambulance until morning because of the curfew, so he told her to use mattresses as room dividers in the single bedroom where they all slept. However, Jero refused to talk
about the corruption and extortion allegations against him. Thursday’s questioning came after the KPK named Jero a suspect on September 3, 2014. The anti-graft commission has named Jero Wacik, a former energy
and mineral resources minister and senior member of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s Democrat Party, in an extortion case in which he allegedly amassed Rp9.9 billion during his ministerial term 2011-12.
According to the investigation of the anti-graft body, Jero ordered his staff to generate additional funds to meet his operational costs. Jero’s staff then carried out bogus activities and managed to find several sponsors. Jero allegedly extorted money from various parties by citing that the operational budget set aside for energy and mineral resources minister for the 2011-13 period was less than the allocation during the
2004-2011 period, when he was the minister for tourism and creative energy. Rich economies should cut debt but spend for jobs
WASHINGTON - The International Monetary Fund said Wednesday that advanced economies still hold too much debt, but even as they trim it they need to spend more to generate jobs. After government debt loads soared in the crisis that began in 2008, they have now stabilized, the IMF’s new assessment of global fiscal strength says. But debt, as a ratio to gross domestic product, is still high and needs to be reduced further in the richest economies, it stressed. The Fund sees the average debt burden for advanced countries rising slightly to 106.5 percent of GDP this year before slipping to 106 percent by the end of next year. For advanced economies as a group, “it is still expected to exceed 100 percent of GDP at the end of the decade. It is important to continue to reduce debt to safer levels and rebuild fiscal buffers,” the Fund said. Yet, with joblessness still high
in many of the leading economies, the IMF cautioned governments against excessive spending cuts and debt reduction that would impact growth and job-creation activities. “Hesitant recovery and persistent risks of lowflation and reform fatigue call for fiscal policy that carefully balances support for growth and employment creation with fiscal sustainability,” the Fund said. While it stressed each country’s situation is different, the Fund said that in areas where the jobs market is stifled by regulations -- an issue that arose in the IMF-supported rescue of Greece -- a “transitory” loosening of government spending policy can buy time to implement labor market reforms. In addition, government’s can better target their spending to address labor market challenges, such as high youth unemployment and low participation by women. “Measures targeted to specific segments of the labor force have been found to be more cost-effective than blanket ones,” it said.

This latest signal of gloom for the eurozone came the day after the International Monetary lowered its forecast for growth in the 18member single currency area. “In Europe, signs are emerging of a loss of growth momentum in the Euro area,” the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development said. Its latest composite leading indicators, CLIs, which it calculates monthly to show trends in economic activity, point to a slowdown in momentum in Germany and Italy, with France stable. On Tuesday, the IMF cut sharply its eurozone growth forecast to 0.8 percent and warned that the single currency bloc faces a long period of
sluggish activity and dangerously low inflation which the European Central Bank must tackle. And earlier this week Germany reported a 5.7-percent slump in August factory orders and a 4.0 percent drop in industrial output, which analysts said meant there would likely be little rebound from the 0.2 percent contraction posted in the second quarter. The OECD’s CLI for Germany began dropping earlier this year and in August, the last month calculated, fell below the long-term average of 100 points, dropping from 100.1 to 99.7 points. The OECD said its CLIs pointed to stable growth momentum for the United States, Britain and Canada, as well as in emerging markets Brazil, China and Russia. It said Japan’s CLI points to a loss of momentum, but that this may be due to one-off factors. India’s CLI points to accelerating growth momentum, but is still below the long-term trend.

DENPASAR - The Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) located in Serangan, Denpasar, Bali, released 850 hatchlings on the Serangan Beach, Bali, in an effort to preserve the animal species, which are protected under law. “We have released 850 hatchlings and two green turtles to their habitats,” Wayan Geriya, the manager of TCEC, stated on Wednesday. He revealed that the hatchlings were bred under captivity in TCEC. Earlier, the turtle eggs were collected from several areas in the vicinity of Serangan, Gianyar, and Klungkung beaches. “There are some eggs bred in captivity that were given by the fishermen who care about the environment, especially the turtle habitats,” Geriya noted. The TCEC has expressed appreciation to the fishermen and communities for their efforts in caring for the environment by handing over the turtle eggs found along the coastline to the center. According to him, the Balinese communities really care about the turtles. German exports contracted by a massive 5.8 percent in August -- the steepest drop since January 2009 -causing the trade surplus to shrink to 17.5 billion euros. In neighbouring France, exports dropped by 1.3 percent, pushing the trade deficit up to 5.8 billion euros, the highest figure since January. France’s big trade deficit is worsening with the United States and with Asia, notably because of a decline in Airbus deliveries. The German statistics office Destatis explained that the late timing of the summer holidays -- in August instead of in July -- had weighed on economic
activity. German factory orders and industrial output had already fallen in August for the same reason. However, analysts have so far insisted that the weakness will be short-lived. But the disappointing export data could now suggest that the fallout from the Ukraine crisis is proving more severe than initially anticipated. The data showed that exports to the EU rose by 2.0 percent, with eurozone exports edging up by just 0.2 percent. Exports to countries outside Europe, however, slumped by 4.7 percent. “The German economy has experienced an extremely sharp stand-still in August. Industrial production, new
orders and exports were down. And the magnitude of the fall brings back memories of the peak of the financial crisis in early 2009,” said ING DiBa economist Carsten Brzeski. The development was not easy to explain, he said. “Of course, the cooling of many export destinations combined with increased uncertainty stemming from the Ukrainian crisis look like the main drivers of the slowdown but in our view fall short explaining the entire story,” he said. “Looking ahead ... the economy seems to need a small miracle in September to avoid a recession in the third quarter,” he warned. The German economy contracted by 0.2 percent in the second quarter and a renewed drop in the third quarter would technically put the country in recession.

used for living expenses, but for parties and clubbing. PARIS — Once one of the biggest names in fashion design, John Galliano has been given a second chance three years after leaving Christian Dior in disgrace. He will take the creative helm of avant-garde Paris house Maison Martin Margiela, it was announced Monday. The British designer almost completely disappeared from the spotlight after being caught on video slurring “I love Hitler” in 2011. The flamboyant designer was later convicted by a French court on complaints of anti-Semitic behavior. During his trial, his defense team acknowledged his addictions to alcohol, sleeping pills and Valium. Galliano avoided prison, but the 53-year-old had to pay a fine of €13,500 ($19,000) in civil damages. An internship in 2013 at Oscar de la Renta signaled Galliano was beginning his return to the industry, and Monday’s announcement confirmed that he’ll be back shaking things up in Paris, where he first made his name.
“John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time,” said Renzo Rosso, the president of the Martin Margiela house owner, OTB. “I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create.” Maison Martin Margiela, which produces ready-to-wear as well as couture, was founded in 1988 by the eponymous Belgian designer, known for his conceptual deconstruction designs and widely associated with the influential group of fashion designers known as the Antwerp Six. Martin Margiela left the house he founded in 2009, a departure that was shrouded in mystery and was a big creative blow to the house. Since then, an H&M collaboration in 2012 and a string of more conventional presentations led some critics to say that the house had sold out. Time will tell if Galliano, whose designs once bowled over the fashion world for their feminine theatricality, will be able to reconcile this with Margiela’s more conceptual aesthetic and give back the house its edge.

within the scope of cooperation in the organizations in the region. “While the sub-theme, ‘The Challenges of Political Development, Public Participation and Socio-Economic Progress in the 21st Century,’ Indonesia is inviting participants to lay greater attention on the key issues that are often questionable and encountered in enhancing the democratic process of a country,” Faizasyah remarked. The BDF is a forum designed to exchange views and the best experiences in the promotion of democracy in one country or region, Faizasyah noted. “As a dynamic process, democracy - especially in the countries that are under a democratic consolidation - continues to search for the best form, and therefore, this forum will offer the widest possible platform for the participants to learn from each other, even for Indonesia,” Faizasyah emphasized. The forum, which was initiated by President Yudhoyono, is an annual event that has become part of the calendar of events on democratic discourse in the AsiaPacific region, which involves the government representatives in the region. Since its initiation in 2008, the BDF serves to promote regional and international cooperation in the field of promoting inclusive democracy by exchanging the best experiences of each country in the democratic process. The VII BDF will be the last forum to be inaugurated by President Yudhoyono, given that he will end his second term as the head of state on October 20th.

MANGUPURA - Not all the rafting companies operating in the Ayung River have owned a license. Unfortunately, the number of unlicensed companies is more than the licensed ones. Complexity of bureaucracy at the Bali government as the issuer of rafting permit is accused of becoming the cause of the difficulty to establish a company. As a result, they recklessly establish rafting company without permit. It was revealed during a site inspection of Deputy Regent of Badung, I Made Sudiana, to Bongkasa Pertiwi village, Abiansemal subdistrict, Tuesday (Oct 7). Headman of Bongkasa Pertiwi, Made Suarjana, stated that among the 14
rafting companies operating in the area or in Badung territory, only 4 companies had owned a permit. Suarjana mentioned that the rafting entrepreneurs mostly consisting of local people admitted to be reluctant to submit the permit. According to him, the permit process in Bali government was considered very complicated. Even, there was an impression if the permit submission was intentionally complicated. “Bali government deliberately complicates the issuance of rafting permit for local entrepreneurs,” he said. All this time, local entrepreneurs complained about the services in the permit submission. Local entrepreneurs, said Suarjana, considered to have been discriminated. Local entrepreneurs were very difficult
to submit their permit, while the entrepreneurs with large capital from outside Bali seemed to be facilitated. “Investors from outside Bali are actually easy to get the permit. It is very strange. The government should prioritize local entrepreneurs,” he protested. Being illegal, many rafting companies owned by local people finally went bankrupt. Actually in terms of facilities and human resources, many local rafting companies were not inferior to rafting companies owned by investors from outside. Surely this condition was very detrimental to local community. On the one hand, people did not want to just become a spectator at their home village, while on the other hand, the opportunity to get
involved in business even seemed to be hampered. Related to this matter, the Head of Badung Government Tourism Office, Tjokorda Raka Darmawan, admitted if there were still many unlicensed rafting companies. The main problem was to get a permit. According to him, every rafting company should have a business entity like the Limited Liability Company (PT). He said that people considered it quite complex so that they were reluctant to form a business entity and the permit could not consequently be issued. “They were reluctant to establish a PT, so that they could not get a permit,” he said. He further added that the obligation to have a legal entity for the
entrepreneurs was actually good. Thus, the company running the rafting business could be disciplined and had a clear legal entity or did not make a business perfunctorily. The government wanted the public to manage their business more professionally, especially the business getting involved in travelers as well as high risk. Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Badung, I Made Sudiana, stated that the complaints of local entrepreneurs related to the permit process should receive special attention. According to him, local entrepreneurs should be given priority and facilitated so as not to be marginalized in their own territory. His party also promised to find out a solution for the problem. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

LONDON - British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, tipped for an Oscar for his performance as mathematician Alan Turing, said on Wednesday he hopes the film will be a worthy tribute to the wartime codebreaker persecuted for being gay. The “Sherlock Holmes” star spoke at the European premiere of “The Imitation Game”, one of several biographical films to dominate the programme of the 58th London Film Festival. Turing was a computer scientist ahead of his time and the film coincides with the 60th anniversary of his death. He was prosecuted for homosexuality in 1952 when it was a crime in Britain, despite the fact that he had played a crucial role in deciphering German codes that experts say accelerated the fall of Adolf Hitler.
Forced to undergo chemical castration, Turing killed himself at the age of 41. LOS ANGELES — Paula Patton has filed for divorce from Robin Thicke and is asking for joint custody of their son. The “Precious” and “2 Guns” actress filed for divorce from the “Blurred Lines” and “Give It 2 U” singer Friday in Los Angeles, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The 38-year-old actress and 37-year-old singer announced they were separating in February after nine years of marriage. They have a 4-year-old son. Patton was the inspiration behind much of Thicke’s music and appeared in some of his videos. The crooner’s latest album,
