LONDON - British rock legends Pink Floyd are set to release a new album called “The Endless River” in October, their first in 20 years. “It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music,” a statement on the band’s website said on Monday. “Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the summer.” The album will be based on recording sessions from 1993 and 1994, when the band were working on their “The Division Bell” album. It will feature guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Richard Wright, a founding member of the band who died in 2008. Author Polly Samson, who wrote lyrics for the album and is married to Gilmour, described the record as “Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful” in a tweet on Saturday. The album is produced by Gilmour and Phil Manzanera, the lead guitarist of
art rock band Roxy Music, together with recording engineer Andy Jackson. Pink Floyd have sold over 250 million copies of albums such as “Dark Side Of The Moon” and “Wish You Were Here” worldwide since they were founded in 1965. The new album will be the band’s first release since 1994’s “The Division Bell”. Backing singer Durga McBroomHudson, who has toured with the band, wrote in a Facebook posting that “there was much rejoicing” over the album and that she would feature on it. She said that recording for the album had started during sessions for “The Division Bell” but the band had since done significantly more work on it.

Meanwhile, in general Indonesia is not ready to face the MEA due to the lack of local workers having the certification of competency test. According to Chairperson of the Association of Indonesia Instructors (AISI) of Bali Chapter, Siska Suzana Darmawan, Bali became a major destination of foreign workers in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Indonesia as a member of ASEAN became the main target of foreign labor having already passed the test of professional competency. “We cannot do anything and have to accept it. Obviously, they have been ready to
compete as having prepared themselves for a long time,” added Siska. Meanwhile, in terms of current conditions of labor in Bali, according to her, they had not been ready. Therefore, her party continued to urge the infrastructure establishment of competencies through professional certification agency. Although in terms of time it was a very tight, it could still
be pursued as long as the government was willing to set up a budget. “Without a budget, how can we speed? We as a consultant are ready to combat, but still need a budget to make it happen. If our human resources are ready and budget is ready, then all can be pursued,” said Siska. Though the opening of the MEA in December 2015, he said, but all had started to enter Indonesia in June. Currently, Siska said that her party had worked hard to establish 9 Professional Certification Institutes (LSPs) in the field of tourism in Bali under the vocational training institution. SINGARAJA - Seririt terminal used as the location of night market so far will be fully utilized for temporary market activities after the fire engulfing the Seririt Market, Thursday night (Jul 3). The terminal will be transformed into a market to accommodate 1,400 traders becoming the fire victims of Seririt Market. To build temporary kiosks, the county government is ready to allocate a fund worth IDR 1.4 billion. It was decided in the coordination meeting of the regional working unit (SKPD) with PD Pasar Buleleng (operator of traditional market) in the office of the regent, Monday afternoon (Jul 7). The coordination meeting was lead by Regional Secretary of Buleleng, Dewa Ketut Puspaka. After chairing the coordination meeting, Puspaka said that government currently focused on emergency handling after the fire engulfing the Seririt Market, Thursday (Jul 3). To support the emergency response, it was required the fund estimated to reach IDR 1.4 billion. It would be prepared and realized immediately for the needs of emergency response. The handling made was building kiosks for 1,400 traders of the fire victims. “We are prioritizing emergency response first. We do not want if the impact of fire will disrupt the overall economic growth, especially in Seririt and surrounding areas,” he said. The emergency fund prepared would, added Puspaka, be used by government to build 883 kiosks to accommodate traders becoming the victims of fire at the Seririt Market.
As planned, the kiosks would be constructed by utilizing the area of Seririt Terminal including several roads around the terminal. Other than kiosks, the government would also build several security posts in the vicinity of the relocating traders. Besides, the government would also provide emergency assistance to fire victims in the form of groceries. “We prioritize to build kiosk in accordance with the data of the PD Pasar first. Based on the data at hand, some traders previously rented more than one kiosk. In addition, the location is also limited, so we take the priority scale,” he explained. Meanwhile, until Monday, the traders becoming the fire victims competed to look for location to sell on the edge of Jalan Gajah Mada in the east of burning market or at roadside in the west of the market. Traders chose to sell at sober location because there was no other work, other than selling. They should make pioneering efforts from zero and minimum investment. It happened because the entire merchandise could not be saved at the time of the fire. (kmb38)

To accommodate a variety of existing creativities, Buleleng government took initiative to organize the Buleleng Festival (Bulfest) on August 6-10, 2014 with the concept of mass Fishermen Dance performance. It was revealed by Chairman of the Bulfest 2014 Organizing Committee, Gede Suyasa, Monday (Jul 7). He said if the Bulfest 2013 presented the Teruna Jaya Dance en masse, the icon of this year would be the Fishermen Dance composed by choreographer I Ketut Merda, from Kedis village, Busungbiu subdistrict. Preparation of the committee itself, said Suyasa, remained to finalize the participants and strengthen the creative team of the performance. The Bulfest 2014 would be witnessed by thousands of local and international spectators. The event taking place for five days would be opened with Fishermen Dance becoming an important icon in the event. Even, participants of the Fishermen Dance reached 500 people. “Fishermen Dance was composed by choreographer I Ketut Merda. No half-heartedly, we will involve 500 dancers for the Fishermen Dance. They consist of students of high school, vocational school and college,” he said. He added the presentation of Fisherman Dance would be centered along the Jalan Ngurah Rai Singaraja. The dance had a moral message to the people of Buleleng, where Buleleng retained abundant artistic potentials and should be explored maximally. With the theme ‘The Dynamics of Buleleng’ it was expected to motivate and explore the potential of local people. “This is a result of our discussion with the artists of Buleleng. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., - Google smartphones with next-generation 3D sensing technology are about to blast into orbit, where they will become the brains and eyes of ball-shaped hovering robots on the International Space Station. NASA plans to use the handsets to beef up its Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites, or SPHERES, which could eventually take over daily chores for astronauts or even handle risky duties outside of the vessel. The phones, part of Google’s Project Tango augmented reality initiative, will be aboard a cargo spacecraft scheduled to launch on July 11. Inspired by a scene from the movie Star Wars where Luke Skywalker spars with a hovering globe, the soccer-ball sized robots can be guided around the space station’s microgravity interior, propelled by tiny blasts of CO2 at about an inch per second. When NASA sent its SPHERES to the space station in 2006 they were capable of precise movement but little else. In 2010, engineers at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, looked for ways to make the devices smarter. “We wanted to add communication, a camera, increase the processing
capability, accelerometers and other sensors. As we were scratching our heads thinking about what to do, we realized the answer was in our hands,” Smart SPHERES project manager Chris Provencher told Reuters in an interview last week. “Let’s just use smartphones.” They bought phones at Best Buy and altered them by adding extra batteries and a shatter-proof displays before sending the handsets to the space station, where astronauts used Velcro to attach them to the side of the SPHERES. That gave the robots a wealth of new sensing and visual capabilities - but still not enough to move around the station as easily as the engineers wanted. Looking to improve the robots, NASA recently turned to the experimental smartphones Google created to encourage innovation in its push for consumer mobile devices that can make sense of space as easily as people do. The Project Tango handsets include a motion-tracking camera and an infra-
red depth sensor similar to Microsoft’s Kinect add-on for the Xbox. The sensors will detect sharp angles inside the space station and create a 3D map that lets the SPHERES navigate from one module to another. “This type of capability is exactly what we need for a robot that’s going to do tasks anywhere inside the space station,” Provencher said. “It has to have a very robust navigation system.” NASA’s phones have been split open so that the touchscreen and sensors face outward when mounted on the robots. They also include spacetested batteries and plastic connectors to replace the Velcro. Google wants the technology showcased by Project Tango to become ubiquitous, helping retailers create detailed 3D representations of their shops and letting gamers make their homes into virtual battlegrounds. It also teamed up with LG recently to launch a Project Tango tablet to encourage developers to experiment with its features.
SEOUL - The billionaire founder of web portal operator Naver Corp beat back Google Inc to leave South Korea one of few countries where the U.S. search engine does not dominate. Now, Lee Hae-jin is stepping onto the world stage with Line, a messaging app developed by a subsidiary in Japan to overcome downed communications after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. But Lee will face a very different market to the one that welcomed Naver.com. Instead of developing a local lead and fending off a global giant, Lee will have to take on established rivals in an international context. “I am playing the part of an attacking winger who needs to run to break through the global market,” Lee, 47, said recently, referring to a goalscoring role in soccer akin to that of FIFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo. Line has lured 470 million users with its simple design and elaborate emoticons, such as a cartoon happy-go-lucky rabbit. Its user base eclipses that of local peer Kakao Corp’s KakaoTalk and places Line nearer Tencent Holdings Ltd’s WeChat and Facebook Inc’s WhatsApp. To fund expansion and close the gap, bankers familiar with the matter said Naver is considering selling shares of Line Corp in Tokyo, New York or both. They said any initial public offering could value the subsidiary at up to $20 billion. On listing plans, Line and Naver declined to comment. Lee founded Naver.com in 1999 to rival the portal of Daum Communications Corp and Korean-language versions of foreign entrants such as Yahoo! Inc. Naver.com attracted clicks with features such as a user question-andanswer forum and a search engine which displays results from news, blogs and other categories on a single page. The portal built up such a lead that its search engine makes up 75 percent of the search market, according to researcher KoreanClick. Google, which embarked on a major push in Korea in 2006, holds 2 percent. That put South Korea in a handful of markets including China and Russia where Google is not the dominant force. It also left Naver the country’s fifth-most valuable stock with a capitalisation of 27 trillion won ($26.76 billion). But in just three years, Line has grown to account for nearly a quarter of Naver’s 638 billion won in January-March revenue by selling ads, games and emoticons, known as stamps. Around 80 percent of Line’s revenue comes from Japan. Elsewhere, Thailand and Indonesia are big markets in terms of user numbers, and as part of its global expansion, Line has made inroads in Mexico and the United States. The messaging market is still growing and it is likely to take a couple years before any app solidifies itself as a leader in particular countries, said Tom Mowat, principal analyst at Analysys Mason. “The next few years will be decisive for the global messaging market,” Lee said in rare public appearance at a conference on the resort island of Jeju. “So we will concentrate on growing our user base in the near term as opposed to profitability.”

DENPASAR - The water police in the Indonesian island resort of Bali have intensified sea patrols during the July 9 presidential election, noted Bali Water Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Tubuh Musyareh. “We are stepping up sea patrols around the island to anticipate intruders who want to disrupt the atmosphere of the election,” Musyareh stated on Tuesday. DENPASAR - Court on Tuesday sentenced a boat skipper to three years’ imprisonment over an ill-fated diving trip which killed two of the seven Japanese women taking part. Agustinus Brata Kusuma lost track of the divers near the resort island of Bali in February when a storm hit suddenly. Kusuma broke down in tears as the judge read the verdict, convicting him of negligence causing death and injury. “I apologise to the families of the victims. It was not intentional,” he told reporters outside the Denpasar district court in Bali after the ruling. Five of the divers were spotted some 20 kilometres (some 12 miles) from their take-off point three days after they went missing. They had managed to clamber onto rocks and coral reefs and were saved in a dramatic rescue. Presiding judge Nursyam, who goes by one name, said the court had found that Kusuma had taken “too long to ask for help and report the incident”. He left the location to buy fuel after
losing sight of the divers, returning two hours later, Nursyam said. “When the Japanese divers came to the surface, the boat wasn’t there,” he said. “The seven divers were smashed around by the storm and were separated.” The judge said the defendant’s actions had tarnished the reputation of Bali as a tourism destination. Kusuma worked for the Bali-based dive company Yellow Scuba, which organised the women’s trip to the neighbouring islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. A Japanese Yellow Scuba instructor, Saori Furukawa, was among the women saved. Shoko Takahashi, who ran Yellow Scuba with her husband, was one of the two found dead. Furukawa told the court earlier how she fired a flare gun to try to get the skipper’s attention to no avail. She told reporters after the incident that the weather suddenly turned bad and the sea spun “like a washing machine”, describing being swept apart from the others by a strong current.

Dozens of dog secured at Rambutsiwi Bali Post
NEGARA - The ‘creating condition’ operation ahead of the Presidential Election 2014 was held by Jembrana Police, Monday (Jul 7) at rest area of Rambutsiwi, Mendoyo. The operation targeting all vehicles coming to Bali was led by Deputy Chief of Jembrana Police, Hagnyono, and Operation Division Head, Ketut Sukarta. From the inspection for approximately two hours, police found a car carrying contraband dogs and motorcyclist carrying a sharp weapon. Deputy Chief of Jembrana Police, Hagnyono, said that his party was waiting for further investigation related to the findings of the officers. Car driver and his dogs were examined in Jembrana Police. The operation was, according to him, deliberately performed during the silent period of the Presidential Election so as to create a safe and conducive situation. In that operation, police also found sharp weapon under the seat of motorcycle with license plate DK 6240 QL ridden by Kosman. The sharp weapon was a bayonet blade deposited by a friend of him named Sofian, from Suwung, Denpasar. Police then secured the sharp weapon. Plotting of land and housing development of less than 10 units regardless of the environmental assessment are feared to disrupt the urban spatial planning. Developers only pursue benefits by building some units of house and taking advantage of the cheap price of land. “The land area under 1,000 square meters is also offered to be converted into housing through a profit sharing business model. Unfortunately, the developers do not think about spatial planning,” said Ketut Sutrisna, one of the owners of paddy fields in Negara. He also claimed to have been offered cooperation with the lure that the land price would be two or three times plus the sale proceeds of a single unit of house. But since the land remained productive, Sutrisna chose to maintain it. Then, he encountered a difficult choice because the surrounding land had been converted into housing. One block of housing only consisted of a few houses. Even, the distance was very close and not equipped with a drain. Similarly, the irrigation chan-
nels were also hampered because the development of new housing was unstoppable. He regretted as there were no rules protecting the land from conversion. As a result, the unlicensed developers could run their business freely. This condition also touched the concern of property employers. Trade talks begin on $1 trillion green goods Associated Press
GENEVA — Diplomats from the United States, China and the European Union began negotiations Tuesday with 11 other members of the World Trade Organization toward a new deal that would cut tariffs on almost $1 trillion of environmental goods. The proposed agreement at the Geneva-based organization would cover 86 percent of trade in environmental goods such as solar panels and gas and wind turbines for producing energy, filters and ultraviolet disinfection equipment for wastewater treatment and soot removers and catalytic converters for air pollution control. U.S. exports of environmental goods reached $106 billion last year, and have grown 8 percent a year since 2009. The negotiations also include Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, and Chinese Taipei. They are meant to build on a list of 54 environmental goods put together by members of APEC — the alliance known as Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation for Pacific Rim economies — for which the governments hope to reduce tariffs to five percent or less by the end of 2015. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said a new agreement would eliminate tariffs of up to 35 percent on dozens of items and fulfill a key part of President Barack Obama’s climate-change agenda. Though climate change isn’t technically part of the WTO’s work agenda, the organization considers itself relevant to the issue because of the way trade policies affect sustainable development, including the efficient allocation of natural resources that raise standards of living. “By eliminating tariffs on the technologies we all need to protect our environment, we can make environmental goods cheaper and more accessible for everyone,” Froman said.

The profit drop had been widely expected, but Tuesday’s forecast still missed collated analyst estimates. Samsung did not provide net income or details of division earnings ahead of the official earnings report to be filed later this month. In an unusual move, Tuesday’s forecast was accompanied by an explanatory note that the company said was to “address market and investor concerns” prior to the audited earnings release. “The company witnessed a slowdown in the overall smartphone market growth and saw increased competition in the Chinese and some European markets,” the note said. “This led to higher inventories for the medium- and low-end smartphones,” it said, adding that earnings had also been hit by the appreciation of the Korean won against the dollar, euro and most emerging market currencies. The surging won is currently running at six-year highs against the dollar, impacting South Korea’s export-driven economy. Sales in April-June stood at 52 trillion won, down 9.5 percent from a year earlier, and 3.1 percent from the first quarter.

SYDNEY — Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe met with his Australian counterpart on Tuesday to sign agreements bolstering defense and trade ties between the countries. The defense deal, which involves the transfer of military equipment and technology, comes a week after Japan’s government ushered in a new era for the country’s defense force by reinterpreting its pacifist constitution to allow greater use of its military to defend allies. Abe wants Japan to have a larger role in global security amid China’s growing military might. The defense policy change drew criticism from Beijing, which is embroiled in a territorial dispute with Japan. That leaves Australia in a delicate situation, given that China is its largest trade partner. Prime Minister Tony Abbott sought to downplay any suggestion that Australia’s defense deal with Japan — which centers around plans to jointly develop stealth submarine technology — is a slight against China. “Australia welcomes Japan’s recent decision to be a more capable strategic partner in our region. I stress: Ours is not a partnership against anyone. It’s a partnership for peace, for prosperity and for the rule of law,” Abbott told parliament in the nation’s capital,

BULELENG - Ahead of the presidential and vice presidential election on July 9, 2014, the ranks of Buleleng Police began to spread its personnel to secure the polling stations (TPS) in Northern Bali. A total of 564 polling station security personnel would be deployed on Monday (Jul 7) in the rally of troop shift at Bhuana Partra Stadium, Singaraja, led by the Chief of Buleleng Police, Benny Arjanto. Before determining the number of security personnel, police had mapped 971 polling stations categorized into safe and vulnerable-one polling stations. Each vulnerable-one category polling station would be guarded by two policemen, while five safe-
category polling stations would be guarded by one policeman. Chief of Buleleng Police, Benny Arjanto, said last Monday after releasing his personnel that polling stations declared as vulnerable-one amounted to 168 units scattered throughout villages in Buleleng. Meanwhile, the remaining 803 polling stations were declared safe. “We’ve performed the mapping and today we spread our personnel to each polling station, so that they will be ready to be on duty on the Election Day,” he said. According to police chief, a total of 901 personnel would be in charge of securing the presidential election of this year equipped with a standard operating procedure (SOP) having
been prepared. These guidelines had to be observed and met by every officer securing the polling stations in carrying out their duties. One of the SOPs was reminding that the personnel securing the polling station should keep in mind the neutrality in the presidential election this year. “If our personnel are already on duty pursuant to the SOP, as a leader I’m ready to hold responsible. Should there be any personnel violating, we will process in accordance with applicable rules,” he added. On the other hand, the county police chief said the officer assigned for presidential election this year totally amounted to 901 personnel. This amount
would be added with the backup of two platoons from the Bali Police Mobile Brigade and the assistance from the National Police School (SPN) Singaraja. As for the exact amount of the security assistance from the Indonesian Military (TNI), community protection and pecalang (customary security guard) had not been ascertained. Obviously, the cooperation of military with other elements in securing the election was expected to realize the safe and orderly election. “To be sure, police will involve 901 personnel and the assistance of the Bali Police and the SPN Singaraja. The Okinawan government said 10 people were injured, one seriously. Separately, a man was reported missing from a fishing boat in rough seas off Kyushu island, to the north. One of the strongest and biggest typhoons to hit during Japan’s summer months, Typhoon Neoguri was packing sustained winds of 194 kilometers (120 miles) per hour and gusts up to 240 kph (148 mph), the Japan Meteorological Agency said. “Please refrain from nonessential activities and from approaching hazardous areas,” said Meteorological Agency official Satoshi Ebihara. “Please show extreme caution.” Local airports were closed and about 593,000 people were advised to evacuate their homes, though most remained put, taking refuge from the destructive winds, waves up to 14 meters (46 feet) high and storm surges that were set to intensify as the storm passed the main island of Okinawa in the evening. More than half of the 50,000 U.S.
troops in Japan are based in Okinawa, the location of several bases, including Kadena, the biggest U.S. air base in Asia. An advisory on its website said the storm was at a level for which all outdoor activity was prohibited. Television footage showed a building shattered, damaged storefronts and trees toppled as winds picked up in the Okinawan capital of Naha. Since typhoons track along Japan’s coasts, often veering onshore every summer, the country is relatively well prepared. Much greater damage is likely from torrential rains if the typhoon hits land as expected on Thursday or Friday and moves across the Japanese archipelago. The storm was moving slowly and diminishing in intensity, but its wide area and slow movement could add to the potential damage, weather forecasters said. JAKARTA - Indonesian presidential hopeful Joko Widodo has a lead of less than three percentage points over his rival, a poll showed Tuesday, a day before the country’s tightest election since the downfall of dictator Suharto. Jakarta governor Widodo, known by his nickname Jokowi, is 2.7 points ahead of ex-general Prabowo Subianto, according to the survey from Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting. The pollster said that with the gap so narrow, the country’s third direct presidential election since the end of authoritarian rule in 1998 had become a test. It warned there was the “potential for cheating” and that democracy “could collapse”, adding that: “The worst scenario is chaos.” Widodo is from a new generation of political leaders without links to the authoritarian past, a stark contrast to Prabowo, who was a top military figure during Suharto’s three-decade rule. Up until several months ago, the 53-year-old looked to be on a smooth path to the presidency, with polls giving him a lead of about 30 percentage points over Prabowo. But his support has shrunk dramatically in the face of a slick campaign by Prabowo and a flood of negative attacks.
Tuesday’s poll put him on 47.6 percent, to Prabowo’s 44.9 percent. The pollster said that 7.5 percent of those questioned were undecided or refused to answer. Around 2,000 voters were quizzed between June 30 and July 3 for the survey, which had a margin of error of 2.2 percent. The poll was conducted before the final presidential election debate on Saturday, in which Widodo and his running mate, former vice president Jusuf Kalla, were considered to have done better than Prabowo and his deputy. JAKARTA - The editorial cartoon appearing on page 7 of the English newspaper in Indonesia, The Jakarta Post, on July 3, is inappropriate, stated Muhammadiyah’s Youth Organization’s Chairman Saleh Partaonan Daulay. The cartoon, which depicts a militant trying to raise a flag bearing the image of a skull and an Arabic verse, “Laa ilaha ilallah” on it had sparked protest among Indonesian Muslims as it was considered offensive against Islam. Muhammadiyah are the second-largest Muslim community in Indonesia. “The Jakarta Post stated in its apology that the cartoon was meant to protest the ISIS militant group in the Middle East for using religious symbols in carrying out their acts of violence. However, I think it is inappropriate to print it here in Indonesia as it has nothing to do with the Muslim community in this country,” emphasized Saleh. He noted that there were some factors in the cartoon printed by The Jakarta Post, which may have offended the Muslims in Indonesia. The sentence “”Laa ilaaha illallaah”
printed on top of the skull flag in the cartoon was sacred to all Muslims in the world. JAKARTA - Some 215 foreign observers will monitor the implementation of the Indonesian presidential election to be held throughout the country on July 9, 2014. “We appreciate the presence of foreign observers. Thank you for your care. With the presence of a large number of observers, we believe that the presidential and vice presidential elections will run fairly, honestly, and transparently,” Commissioner of the National General Elections Committee (KPU) Hadar Nafis Gumay stated on Monday. The committee held a coordination meeting with representatives of the institutions that brought the observers to Indonesia, in order to discuss the preparations and facilities needed by the 215 foreign observers who will monitor the implementation of the presidential election in several regions such as Jakarta, Aceh, Yogyakarta, Semarang (Central Java), West Java, Banten, and East Java. The observers are coordinating with the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD) and the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Stiftung Fur Die Freiheit, the International IDEAAsia and the Pacific Regional Program, PT Indra Indonesia Menara BCA, the Grouping for General Elections and Democracy (Perludem), and the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) Foundation.
KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Manik informed the foreign observers that the general election was an important event held every five years in Indonesia. The government, however, also ensured that the Indonesian nationals living abroad were also able to exercise their right to vote in the legislative and presidential elections, Manik remarked. The KPU in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry has set up 130 overseas general election committees based in Indonesian embassies and consulate general offices, he affirmed. MADRID — Alfredo Di Stefano, the player Real Madrid has hailed as the most important component in its mid-20th century ascent to becoming a global football powerhouse, has died. He was 88. Real Madrid said in a statement that Di Stefano, its honorary president, died on Monday afternoon at Gregorio Maranon hospital, two days after a heart attack. Di Stefano turned 88 on Friday. The following day, he had a heart attack on a street near Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and spent the following days in the hospital. Renowned for his speed, versatility and strategic grasp of the game, he helped Madrid attain five straight European Champions Cups and was voted European player of the year in 1957 and ‘59. In a career spanning five clubs in three countries — Argentina, Colombia and Spain — from 1945-1966, Di Stefano scored 789 goals in 1,090 matches. In the process he claimed top-scorer status once in the Argentine league, twice in Colombia’s league and five times in Spain. Only Raul Gonzalez has scored more goals for Real Madrid than Di Stefano, who is often recognized as the club’s first “galactico.” However, as FIFA acknowledges on its official website, “statistics will show that Alfredo Di Stefano is one of the world’s greatest ever goal scorers, but the bare facts only tell part of the story.” FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Di Stefano “was my favorite player.” French great Michel Platini, now president of the football’s European governing

Vanishing spray inventor not letting his ideals disappear Reuters
BELO HORIZONTE - One of the great World Cup success stories has been the “magic spray” used by referees to keep a defensive wall 10 yards (9.15 metres) from the ball at free kicks but its inventor says he is more concerned with the good of the game than making millions. Heine Allemagne, 43, who has given FIFA free use of his invention at the finals, says he is driven by a love of the game and helping referees keep discipline rather than becoming a multi-millionaire. And his invention could hardly be more simple. The referee sprays a line of biodegradable foam derived from vegetable oil in a line on the pitch indicating where the players must stand at a freekick, and that line disappears within a minute or two. “I had no commercial ambition, I wanted to develop the product. Perhaps there will be some financial side but that can come later, I wanted to get the product perfect for football. “I wanted to help the referees keep discipline. The time now taken at free-kick has dropped from 48 seconds to around 20 seconds. There are less yellow and red cards and more goals from free-kicks, and the players respect the line.” Although the spray cans are not yet widely available Allemagne said the retail price would be around $5. The prototype was first used in the minor Copa Belo Horizonte in 2000.
It was gradually used in higher levels and two years later the Brazilian FA (CBF) sanctioned its use after it received a 100 per cent approval rating by the referees who had it. In 2006 Allemagne joined forces with Argentinian Pablo Silva who was independently working on a similar product and since then they been working together on the spray they called the 9.15 Fair Play spray -- the metric distance players need to be from the ball at free kicks. By 2012 the spray, with many technical modifications along the way, had been tested in 18,000 professional games and was authorised by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) who approved its use at all levels in 2012. FIFA tested it at the Under-17 and Under-20 world championships in 2013 and it was also used at the Club World Cup before being used for the first time at the World Cup. “I am just a face in the crowd, someone from Minas Gerais who tackled a centuryold problem,” says Allemagne. Although he holds an international patent for the product and is protective of it and could become a very wealthy man out of it, that does not appear to be his goal. “There are ethical values involved. Multinational companies absorb the work of others and make their profits, but my journey is not about that,” he says.

MADRID — Alfredo Di Stefano, the player Real Madrid has hailed as the most important component in its mid-20th century ascent to becoming a global football powerhouse, has died. He was 88. Real Madrid said in a statement that Di Stefano, its honorary president, died on Monday afternoon at Gregorio Maranon hospital, two days after a heart attack. Di Stefano turned 88 on Friday. The following day, he had a heart attack on a street near Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and spent the following days in the hospital. Renowned for his speed, versatility and strategic grasp of the game, he helped Madrid attain five straight European Champions Cups and was voted European player of the year in 1957 and ‘59. In a career spanning five clubs in three countries — Argentina, Colombia and Spain — from 1945-1966, Di Stefano scored 789 goals in 1,090 matches. In the process he claimed top-scorer status once in the Argentine league, twice in Colombia’s league and five times in Spain. Only Raul Gonzalez has scored more goals for Real Madrid than Di Stefano, who is often recognized as the club’s first “galactico.” However, as FIFA acknowledges on its official website, “statistics will show that Alfredo Di Stefano is one of the world’s greatest ever goal scorers, but the bare facts only tell part of the story.” FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Di Stefano “was my favorite player.” French great Michel Platini, now president of the football’s European governing

expected, for Wednesday’s match against Argentina. They will stay in a FIFA-designated hotel if they qualify for the final in Rio, Fischer said. Dutch federation president Bert van Oostveen complained that his team were being forced to move elsewhere. “It’s just a shame that this should happen,” he told Dutch media earlier on Monday. “The players are used to the hotel and then they might have to make way for the biggest game of their careers. “I think it is not in the interests of football that athletes must give way.”

Vanishing spray inventor not letting his ideals disappear Reuters
BELO HORIZONTE - One of the great World Cup success stories has been the “magic spray” used by referees to keep a defensive wall 10 yards (9.15 metres) from the ball at free kicks but its inventor says he is more concerned with the good of the game than making millions. Heine Allemagne, 43, who has given FIFA free use of his invention at the finals, says he is driven by a love of the game and helping referees keep discipline rather than becoming a multi-millionaire. And his invention could hardly be more simple. The referee sprays a line of biodegradable foam derived from vegetable oil in a line on the pitch indicating where the players must stand at a freekick, and that line disappears within a minute or two. “I had no commercial ambition, I wanted to develop the product. Perhaps there will be some financial side but that can come later, I wanted to get the product perfect for football. “I wanted to help the referees keep discipline. The time now taken at free-kick has dropped from 48 seconds to around 20 seconds. There are less yellow and red cards and more goals from free-kicks, and the players respect the line.” Although the spray cans are not yet widely available Allemagne said the retail price would be around $5. One of the more intriguing aspects of his story is the time it took for such a simple concept to become accepted. Although local football authorities welcomed it in the early stages he said FIFA president Sepp Blatter and secretary general Jerome Valcke needed some convincing when they reached a more advanced stage. “Some people needed convincing like them. Blatter was sceptical in the beginning but then realised this solved a football problem. “Some people did not think it was necessary or would act as enough deterrent to keep people behind the line. It was gradually used in higher levels and two years later the Brazilian FA (CBF) sanctioned its use after it received a 100 per cent approval rating by the referees who had it. In 2006 Allemagne joined forces with Argentinian Pablo Silva who was independently working on a similar product and since then they been working together on the spray they called the 9.15 Fair Play spray -- the metric distance players need to be from the ball at free kicks. By 2012 the spray, with many technical modifications along the way, had been tested in 18,000 professional games and was authorised by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) who approved its use at all levels in 2012. FIFA tested it at the Under-17 and Under-20 world championships in 2013 and it was also used at the Club World Cup before being used for the first time at the World Cup. “I am just a face in the crowd, someone from Minas Gerais who tackled a centuryold problem,” says Allemagne. Although he holds an international patent for the product and is protective of it and could become a very wealthy man out of it, that does not appear to be his goal. “There are ethical values involved. Multinational companies absorb the work of others and make their profits, but my journey is not about that,” he says.

NEWPORT, R.I. — Second-seeded Ivo Karlovic of Croatia used his overpowering serve to beat American Robby Ginepri 7-6 (2), 6-2 Monday in the opening round of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. The 6-foot-11 Karlovic had 17 aces and only two double-faults, winning 92 percent of his first-serve points during breezy conditions on the grass at Newport. The tournament is held in conjunction with the International Tennis Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. TOKYO — A powerful typhoon pummeled the southern Japanese islands of Okinawa on Tuesday, paralyzing transport and prompting U.S. forces based there to cancel all outdoor activity. The Okinawan government said 10 people were injured, one seriously. Separately, a man was reported missing from a fishing boat in rough seas off Kyushu island, to the north. One of the strongest and biggest typhoons to hit during Japan’s summer months, Typhoon Neoguri was packing sustained winds of 194 kilometers (120 miles) per hour and gusts up to 240 kph (148 mph), the Japan Meteorological Agency said. “Please refrain from nonessential activities and from approaching hazardous areas,” said Meteorological Agency official Satoshi Ebihara. “Please show extreme caution.” Local airports were closed and about 593,000 people were advised to evacuate their homes, though most remained put, taking refuge from the destructive winds, waves up to 14 meters (46 feet) high and storm surges that were set to intensify as the storm passed the main island of Okinawa in the evening. More than half of the 50,000 U.S.
troops in Japan are based in Okinawa, the location of several bases, including Kadena, the biggest U.S. air base in Asia. An advisory on its website said the storm was at a level for which all outdoor activity was prohibited. Television footage showed a building shattered, damaged storefronts and trees toppled as winds picked up in the Okinawan capital of Naha. Since typhoons track along Japan’s coasts, often veering onshore every summer, the country is relatively well prepared. Much greater damage is likely from torrential rains if the typhoon hits land as expected on Thursday or Friday and moves across the Japanese archipelago. The storm was moving slowly and diminishing in intensity, but its wide area and slow movement could add to the potential damage, weather forecasters said. Authorities in China and Taiwan also warned ships to stay clear of the storm. Forecasts show the storm tracking toward Kyushu and then across
Japan’s main island of Honshu. It is forecast to lose more of its power over land, but much of the damage from such storms comes from downpours that cause landslides and flooding. The Philippines, which suffered the strongest typhoon to ever hit land when Haiyan struck in November, was spared the ferocious winds of Neoguri. JAKARTA - The editorial cartoon appearing on page 7 of the English newspaper in Indonesia, The Jakarta Post, on July 3, is inappropriate, stated Muhammadiyah’s Youth Organization’s Chairman Saleh Partaonan Daulay. The cartoon, which depicts a militant trying to raise a flag bearing the image of a skull and an Arabic verse, “Laa ilaha ilallah” on it had sparked protest among Indonesian Muslims as it was considered offensive against Islam. Muhammadiyah are the second-largest Muslim community in Indonesia. “The Jakarta Post stated in its apology that the cartoon was meant to protest the ISIS militant group in the Middle East for using religious symbols in carrying out their acts of violence. However, I think it is inappropriate to print it here in Indonesia as it has nothing to do with the Muslim community in this country,” emphasized Saleh. He noted that there were some factors in the cartoon printed by The Jakarta Post, which may have offended the Muslims in Indonesia. The sentence “”Laa ilaaha illallaah”
printed on top of the skull flag in the cartoon was sacred to all Muslims in the world. In Islam, “Laa ilaaha illallaah” means human’s devotion to Allah, the Almighty. “Another offending factor in the cartoon was the words, Allah and Muhammad, printed inside the skull picture. The words, Allah and Muhammad, are sacred to Muslims,” Saleh added. Regarding the protest against its caricature, The Jakarta Post daily on July 8 had tendered an apology: We sincerely apologize for and retract the editorial cartoon printed on page 7 in the July 3, 2014, edition of The Jakarta Post. The cartoon contained religious symbolism that may have been offensive. The Post regrets the error in judgment, which was in no way meant to malign or be disrespectful to any religion. Our intent was to critique the use of religious symbols (specifically the ISIL flag) in acts of violence in general and, in this case, against fellow Muslims. In particular, it was meant as a reproach of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which has threatened to attack the Holy Ka’bah in Mecca as part of its political agenda.

JAKARTA - Some 215 foreign observers will monitor the implementation of the Indonesian presidential election to be held throughout the country on July 9, 2014. “We appreciate the presence of foreign observers. Thank you for your care. With the presence of a large number of observers, we believe that the presidential and vice presidential elections will run fairly, honestly, and transparently,” Commissioner of the National General Elections Committee (KPU) Hadar Nafis Gumay stated on Monday. The committee held a coordination meeting with representatives of the institutions that brought the observers to Indonesia, in order to discuss the preparations and facilities needed by the 215 foreign observers who will monitor the implementation of the presidential election in several regions such as Jakarta, Aceh, Yogyakarta, Semarang (Central Java), West Java, Banten, and East Java. The observers are coordinating with the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD) and the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Stiftung Fur Die Freiheit, the International IDEAAsia and the Pacific Regional Program, PT Indra Indonesia Menara BCA, the Grouping for General Elections and Democracy (Perludem), and the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) Foundation.
KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Manik informed the foreign observers that the general election was an important event held every five years in Indonesia. The government, however, also ensured that the Indonesian nationals living abroad were also able to exercise their right to vote in the legislative and presidential elections, Manik remarked. The KPU in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry has set up 130 overseas general election committees based in Indonesian embassies and consulate general offices, he affirmed. Trade talks begin on $1 trillion green goods Associated Press
GENEVA — Diplomats from the United States, China and the European Union began negotiations Tuesday with 11 other members of the World Trade Organization toward a new deal that would cut tariffs on almost $1 trillion of environmental goods. The proposed agreement at the Geneva-based organization would cover 86 percent of trade in environmental goods such as solar panels and gas and wind turbines for producing energy, filters and ultraviolet disinfection equipment for wastewater treatment and soot removers and catalytic converters for air pollution control. U.S. exports of environmental goods reached $106 billion last year, and have grown 8 percent a year since 2009. The negotiations also include Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, and Chinese Taipei. They are meant to build on a list of 54 environmental goods put together by members of APEC — the alliance known as Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation for Pacific Rim economies — for which the governments hope to reduce tariffs to five percent or less by the end of 2015. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said a new agreement would eliminate tariffs of up to 35 percent on dozens of items and fulfill a key part of President Barack Obama’s climate-change agenda. Though climate change isn’t technically part of the WTO’s work agenda, the organization considers itself relevant to the issue because of the way trade policies affect sustainable development, including the efficient allocation of natural resources that raise standards of living. “By eliminating tariffs on the technologies we all need to protect our environment, we can make environmental goods cheaper and more accessible for everyone,” Froman said.

The Q2 operating profit was down 15.2 percent from the 8.49 trillion won posted in the previous quarter. The profit drop had been widely expected, but Tuesday’s forecast still missed collated analyst estimates. Samsung did not provide net income or details of division earnings ahead of the official earnings report to be filed later this month. In an unusual move, Tuesday’s forecast was accompanied by an explanatory note that the company said was to “address market and investor concerns” prior to the audited earnings release. “The company witnessed a slowdown in the overall smartphone market growth and saw increased competition in the Chinese and some European markets,” the note said. “This led to higher inventories for the medium- and low-end smartphones,” it said, adding that earnings had also been hit by the appreciation of the Korean won against the dollar, euro and most emerging market currencies. The surging won is currently running at six-year highs against the dollar, impacting South Korea’s export-driven economy. Sales in April-June stood at 52 trillion won, down 9.5 percent from a year earlier, and 3.1 percent from the first quarter.

SYDNEY — Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe met with his Australian counterpart on Tuesday to sign agreements bolstering defense and trade ties between the countries. The defense deal, which involves the transfer of military equipment and technology, comes a week after Japan’s government ushered in a new era for the country’s defense force by reinterpreting its pacifist constitution to allow greater use of its military to defend allies. Abe wants Japan to have a larger role in global security amid China’s growing military might. The defense policy change drew criticism from Beijing, which is embroiled in a territorial dispute with Japan. That leaves Australia in a delicate situation, given that China is its largest trade partner. Prime Minister Tony Abbott sought to downplay any suggestion that Australia’s defense deal with Japan — which centers around plans to jointly develop stealth submarine technology — is a slight against China. “Australia welcomes Japan’s recent decision to be a more capable strategic partner in our region. I stress: Ours is not a partnership against anyone. It’s a partnership for peace, for prosperity and for the rule of law,” Abbott told parliament in the nation’s capital,

BULELENG - Ahead of the presidential and vice presidential election on July 9, 2014, the ranks of Buleleng Police began to spread its personnel to secure the polling stations (TPS) in Northern Bali. A total of 564 polling station security personnel would be deployed on Monday (Jul 7) in the rally of troop shift at Bhuana Partra Stadium, Singaraja, led by the Chief of Buleleng Police, Benny Arjanto. Before determining the number of security personnel, police had mapped 971 polling stations categorized into safe and vulnerable-one polling stations. Each vulnerable-one category polling station would be guarded by two policemen, while five safe-
category polling stations would be guarded by one policeman. Chief of Buleleng Police, Benny Arjanto, said last Monday after releasing his personnel that polling stations declared as vulnerable-one amounted to 168 units scattered throughout villages in Buleleng. Meanwhile, the remaining 803 polling stations were declared safe. “We’ve performed the mapping and today we spread our personnel to each polling station, so that they will be ready to be on duty on the Election Day,” he said. According to police chief, a total of 901 personnel would be in charge of securing the presidential election of this year equipped with a standard operating procedure (SOP) having
been prepared. These guidelines had to be observed and met by every officer securing the polling stations in carrying out their duties. One of the SOPs was reminding that the personnel securing the polling station should keep in mind the neutrality in the presidential election this year. “If our personnel are already on duty pursuant to the SOP, as a leader I’m ready to hold responsible. Should there be any personnel violating, we will process in accordance with applicable rules,” he added. On the other hand, the county police chief said the officer assigned for presidential election this year totally amounted to 901 personnel. This amount
would be added with the backup of two platoons from the Bali Police Mobile Brigade and the assistance from the National Police School (SPN) Singaraja. As for the exact amount of the security assistance from the Indonesian Military (TNI), community protection and pecalang (customary security guard) had not been ascertained. Obviously, the cooperation of military with other elements in securing the election was expected to realize the safe and orderly election. “To be sure, police will involve 901 personnel and the assistance of the Bali Police and the SPN Singaraja. Dozens of dog secured at Rambutsiwi Bali Post
NEGARA - The ‘creating condition’ operation ahead of the Presidential Election 2014 was held by Jembrana Police, Monday (Jul 7) at rest area of Rambutsiwi, Mendoyo. The operation targeting all vehicles coming to Bali was led by Deputy Chief of Jembrana Police, Hagnyono, and Operation Division Head, Ketut Sukarta. From the inspection for approximately two hours, police found a car carrying contraband dogs and motorcyclist carrying a sharp weapon. Deputy Chief of Jembrana Police, Hagnyono, said that his party was waiting for further investigation related to the findings of the officers. Car driver and his dogs were examined in Jembrana Police. The operation was, according to him, deliberately performed during the silent period of the Presidential Election so as to create a safe and conducive situation. In that operation, police also found sharp weapon under the seat of motorcycle with license plate DK 6240 QL ridden by Kosman. The sharp weapon was a bayonet blade deposited by a friend of him named Sofian, from Suwung, Denpasar. Police then secured the sharp weapon. Developers only pursue benefits by building some units of house and taking advantage of the cheap price of land. “The land area under 1,000 square meters is also offered to be converted into housing through a profit sharing business model. Unfortunately, the developers do not think about spatial planning,” said Ketut Sutrisna, one of the owners of paddy fields in Negara. He also claimed to have been offered cooperation with the lure that the land price would be two or three times plus the sale proceeds of a single unit of house. But since the land remained productive, Sutrisna chose to maintain it. Then, he encountered a difficult choice because the surrounding land had been converted into housing. One block of housing only consisted of a few houses. Even, the distance was very close and not equipped with a drain. Similarly, the irrigation chan-
nels were also hampered because the development of new housing was unstoppable. He regretted as there were no rules protecting the land from conversion. MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., - Google smartphones with next-generation 3D sensing technology are about to blast into orbit, where they will become the brains and eyes of ball-shaped hovering robots on the International Space Station. NASA plans to use the handsets to beef up its Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites, or SPHERES, which could eventually take over daily chores for astronauts or even handle risky duties outside of the vessel. The phones, part of Google’s Project Tango augmented reality initiative, will be aboard a cargo spacecraft scheduled to launch on July 11. Inspired by a scene from the movie Star Wars where Luke Skywalker spars with a hovering globe, the soccer-ball sized robots can be guided around the space station’s microgravity interior, propelled by tiny blasts of CO2 at about an inch per second. When NASA sent its SPHERES to the space station in 2006 they were capable of precise movement but little else. In 2010, engineers at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, looked for ways to make the devices smarter. “We wanted to add communication, a camera, increase the processing
capability, accelerometers and other sensors. As we were scratching our heads thinking about what to do, we realized the answer was in our hands,” Smart SPHERES project manager Chris Provencher told Reuters in an interview last week. “Let’s just use smartphones.” They bought phones at Best Buy and altered them by adding extra batteries and a shatter-proof displays before sending the handsets to the space station, where astronauts used Velcro to attach them to the side of the SPHERES. That gave the robots a wealth of new sensing and visual capabilities - but still not enough to move around the station as easily as the engineers wanted. Looking to improve the robots, NASA recently turned to the experimental smartphones Google created to encourage innovation in its push for consumer mobile devices that can make sense of space as easily as people do. The Project Tango handsets include a motion-tracking camera and an infra-
red depth sensor similar to Microsoft’s Kinect add-on for the Xbox. The sensors will detect sharp angles inside the space station and create a 3D map that lets the SPHERES navigate from one module to another. “This type of capability is exactly what we need for a robot that’s going to do tasks anywhere inside the space station,” Provencher said. “It has to have a very robust navigation system.” NASA’s phones have been split open so that the touchscreen and sensors face outward when mounted on the robots. They also include spacetested batteries and plastic connectors to replace the Velcro. Google wants the technology showcased by Project Tango to become ubiquitous, helping retailers create detailed 3D representations of their shops and letting gamers make their homes into virtual battlegrounds. SEOUL - The billionaire founder of web portal operator Naver Corp beat back Google Inc to leave South Korea one of few countries where the U.S. search engine does not dominate. Now, Lee Hae-jin is stepping onto the world stage with Line, a messaging app developed by a subsidiary in Japan to overcome downed communications after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. But Lee will face a very different market to the one that welcomed Naver.com. Instead of developing a local lead and fending off a global giant, Lee will have to take on established rivals in an international context. “I am playing the part of an attacking winger who needs to run to break through the global market,” Lee, 47, said recently, referring to a goalscoring role in soccer akin to that of FIFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo. Line has lured 470 million users with its simple design and elaborate emoticons, such as a cartoon happy-go-lucky rabbit. Its user base eclipses that of local peer Kakao Corp’s KakaoTalk and places Line nearer Tencent Holdings Ltd’s WeChat and Facebook Inc’s WhatsApp. To fund expansion and close the gap, bankers familiar with the matter said Naver is considering selling shares of Line Corp in Tokyo, New York or both. They said any initial public offering could value the subsidiary at up to $20 billion. On listing plans, Line and Naver declined to comment. But in just three years, Line has grown to account for nearly a quarter of Naver’s 638 billion won in January-March revenue by selling ads, games and emoticons, known as stamps. Around 80 percent of Line’s revenue comes from Japan. Elsewhere, Thailand and Indonesia are big markets in terms of user numbers, and as part of its global expansion, Line has made inroads in Mexico and the United States. The messaging market is still growing and it is likely to take a couple years before any app solidifies itself as a leader in particular countries, said Tom Mowat, principal analyst at Analysys Mason. “The next few years will be decisive for the global messaging market,” Lee said in rare public appearance at a conference on the resort island of Jeju. “So we will concentrate on growing our user base in the near term as opposed to profitability.”

Sea patrols intensified for securing election Antara
DENPASAR - The water police in the Indonesian island resort of Bali have intensified sea patrols during the July 9 presidential election, noted Bali Water Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Tubuh Musyareh. “We are stepping up sea patrols around the island to anticipate intruders who want to disrupt the atmosphere of the election,” Musyareh stated on Tuesday. Musyareh reported that sea patrolling was increased around inhabited small islands around Bali, particularly the islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan at Klungkung District. Musyareh noted that besides sea
patrols, the Bali Water Police has also increased coordination with the ground task force to anticipate unidentified persons who sneak into the islands via sea with dangerous materials to disturb the election. Earlier, Denpasar Naval Base spokesman Colonel Julius Widjojono stated on Monday that two warships were being prepared to patrol the waters around Bali for securing the presidential election.

DENPASAR - Court on Tuesday sentenced a boat skipper to three years’ imprisonment over an ill-fated diving trip which killed two of the seven Japanese women taking part. Agustinus Brata Kusuma lost track of the divers near the resort island of Bali in February when a storm hit suddenly. Kusuma broke down in tears as the judge read the verdict, convicting him of negligence causing death and injury. “I apologise to the families of the victims. It was not intentional,” he told reporters outside the Denpasar district court in Bali after the ruling. Five of the divers were spotted some 20 kilometres (some 12 miles) from their take-off point three days after they went missing. They had managed to clamber onto rocks and coral reefs and were saved in a dramatic rescue. Presiding judge Nursyam, who goes by one name, said the court had found that Kusuma had taken “too long to ask for help and report the incident”. He left the location to buy fuel after
losing sight of the divers, returning two hours later, Nursyam said. “When the Japanese divers came to the surface, the boat wasn’t there,” he said. “The seven divers were smashed around by the storm and were separated.” The judge said the defendant’s actions had tarnished the reputation of Bali as a tourism destination. Kusuma worked for the Bali-based dive company Yellow Scuba, which organised the women’s trip to the neighbouring islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. A Japanese Yellow Scuba instructor, Saori Furukawa, was among the women saved. Shoko Takahashi, who ran Yellow Scuba with her husband, was one of the two found dead. Furukawa told the court earlier how she fired a flare gun to try to get the skipper’s attention to no avail. She told reporters after the incident that the weather suddenly turned bad and the sea spun “like a washing machine”, describing being swept apart from the others by a strong current.

SINGARAJA - Seririt terminal used as the location of night market so far will be fully utilized for temporary market activities after the fire engulfing the Seririt Market, Thursday night (Jul 3). The terminal will be transformed into a market to accommodate 1,400 traders becoming the fire victims of Seririt Market. To build temporary kiosks, the county government is ready to allocate a fund worth IDR 1.4 billion. It was decided in the coordination meeting of the regional working unit (SKPD) with PD Pasar Buleleng (operator of traditional market) in the office of the regent, Monday afternoon (Jul 7). The coordination meeting was lead by Regional Secretary of Buleleng, Dewa Ketut Puspaka. After chairing the coordination meeting, Puspaka said that government currently focused on emergency handling after the fire engulfing the Seririt Market, Thursday (Jul 3). To support the emergency response, it was required the fund estimated to reach IDR 1.4 billion. It would be prepared and realized immediately for the needs of emergency response. The handling made was building kiosks for 1,400 traders of the fire victims. “We are prioritizing emergency response first. We do not want if the impact of fire will disrupt the overall economic growth, especially in Seririt and surrounding areas,” he said. The emergency fund prepared would, added Puspaka, be used by government to build 883 kiosks to accommodate traders becoming the victims of fire at the Seririt Market.
As planned, the kiosks would be constructed by utilizing the area of Seririt Terminal including several roads around the terminal. Other than kiosks, the government would also build several security posts in the vicinity of the relocating traders. Besides, the government would also provide emergency assistance to fire victims in the form of groceries. “We prioritize to build kiosk in accordance with the data of the PD Pasar first. Based on the data at hand, some traders previously rented more than one kiosk. In addition, the location is also limited, so we take the priority scale,” he explained. Meanwhile, until Monday, the traders becoming the fire victims competed to look for location to sell on the edge of Jalan Gajah Mada in the east of burning market or at roadside in the west of the market. Traders chose to sell at sober location because there was no other work, other than selling. They should make pioneering efforts from zero and minimum investment. It happened because the entire merchandise could not be saved at the time of the fire. (kmb38)

He said if the Bulfest 2013 presented the Teruna Jaya Dance en masse, the icon of this year would be the Fishermen Dance composed by choreographer I Ketut Merda, from Kedis village, Busungbiu subdistrict. Preparation of the committee itself, said Suyasa, remained to finalize the participants and strengthen the creative team of the performance. The Bulfest 2014 would be witnessed by thousands of local and international spectators. The event taking place for five days would be opened with Fishermen Dance becoming an important icon in the event. Even, participants of the Fishermen Dance reached 500 people. “Fishermen Dance was composed by choreographer I Ketut Merda. No half-heartedly, we will involve 500 dancers for the Fishermen Dance. They consist of students of high school, vocational school and college,” he said. He added the presentation of Fisherman Dance would be centered along the Jalan Ngurah Rai Singaraja. The dance had a moral message to the people of Buleleng, where Buleleng retained abundant artistic potentials and should be explored maximally. With the theme ‘The Dynamics of Buleleng’ it was expected to motivate and explore the potential of local people. “This is a result of our discussion with the artists of Buleleng. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

LONDON - British rock legends Pink Floyd are set to release a new album called “The Endless River” in October, their first in 20 years. “It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music,” a statement on the band’s website said on Monday. “Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the summer.” The album will be based on recording sessions from 1993 and 1994, when the band were working on their “The Division Bell” album. It will feature guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Richard Wright, a founding member of the band who died in 2008. Author Polly Samson, who wrote lyrics for the album and is married to Gilmour, described the record as “Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful” in a tweet on Saturday. The album is produced by Gilmour and Phil Manzanera, the lead guitarist of
art rock band Roxy Music, together with recording engineer Andy Jackson. Pink Floyd have sold over 250 million copies of albums such as “Dark Side Of The Moon” and “Wish You Were Here” worldwide since they were founded in 1965. The new album will be the band’s first release since 1994’s “The Division Bell”. Backing singer Durga McBroomHudson, who has toured with the band, wrote in a Facebook posting that “there was much rejoicing” over the album and that she would feature on it. She said that recording for the album had started during sessions for “The Division Bell” but the band had since done significantly more work on it.

DENPASAR - Of the 10 members of ASEAN, Indonesia including Bali becomes the main target of foreign labor in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015. Meanwhile, in general Indonesia is not ready to face the MEA due to the lack of local workers having the certification of competency test. According to Chairperson of the Association of Indonesia Instructors (AISI) of Bali Chapter, Siska Suzana Darmawan, Bali became a major destination of foreign workers in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Indonesia as a member of ASEAN became the main target of foreign labor having already passed the test of professional competency. “We cannot do anything and have to accept it. Obviously, they have been ready to
compete as having prepared themselves for a long time,” added Siska. Meanwhile, in terms of current conditions of labor in Bali, according to her, they had not been ready. Therefore, her party continued to urge the infrastructure establishment of competencies through professional certification agency. Although in terms of time it was a very tight, it could still
be pursued as long as the government was willing to set up a budget. “Without a budget, how can we speed? We as a consultant are ready to combat, but still need a budget to make it happen. If our human resources are ready and budget is ready, then all can be pursued,” said Siska. Though the opening of the MEA in December 2015, he said, but all had started to enter Indonesia in June. Currently, Siska said that her party had worked hard to establish 9 Professional Certification Institutes (LSPs) in the field of tourism in Bali under the vocational training institution.
