Dovizioso: Great feeling with ‘beautiful’ Yamaha
Andrea Dovizioso left Wednesday’s Aragon test ‘very happy’ after completing a memorable week in his young Yamaha career. The Italian became the first satellite rider to claim a podium in the new 1000cc era with third place in Sunday’s Catalunya round, a result that also moved him to fourth and top satellite rider in the world championship. Dovizioso then led Monday’s post-race test at the same circuit and, while he claimed a less spectacular fourth in Wednesday’s Aragon outing, he was able to work further on perfecting his rid-
ing style for the M1 and confirm the strength of a new electronics package. “Today’s test completed a very positive week for me and I go home quite tired after so much time on track but also very happy,” said Dovi. “After the strong race and test at Catalunya it was important to understand our level here in Aragon. “This has not been a strong track for me in the past but I was very fast and consistent and now I have a great feeling with the Yamaha and it is beautiful to ride this bike. “The strong points of the Ya-
maha like braking and corner entry is what you need at this track, so when we come back for the race later in the season I am sure I will be very competitive. “We were able to confirm the improvement from the electronics here and I am looking forward to using them next week in Silverstone. The upgrade gives me better control on old tyres and also the endurance of the tyre is longer, so this will be a good advantage over a race distance.” Dovizioso’s best lap was 0.7sec from factory Yamaha rider and world championship Jorge Lorenzo.

Alonso goes into the event sitting three points clear at the head of the championship standings despite Ferrari being on the back foot with the new F2012 since the start of pre-season testing. Victory in the wet Malaysian Grand Prix has been key to Alonso’s challenge, and with the team working to improve traction and top speed with the car, the double champion said he was looking forward to seeing if the car could again display front-running speed at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. “I think we have improved the car in
these areas since the beginning of the season and Canada will be a good test in this respect,” he said. “Hopefully this weekend we will see a competitive Ferrari and that will be very important for us, not just for this race but also for the rest of the season. “I don’t see any reason why Ferrari should not be competitive in Canada, fighting for the top places come the end of the race. Winning races is not easy, neither is finishing on the podium, but the important thing is to score points and

The protest action of the locals at Gianyar’s road damages happened again as seen last Wednesday (6/6) a banana tree has been planted as its protest form as the road keep not being repaired. Besides that, locals also put a board stating the question: When will it be fixed? The road damaged is at Manik Street, on the north of Gianyar jail. Two drums were also placed on the left and right sides where under it a hole is under water which at first wasn’t that big as

The ngaben, ngeroras and nuntun mass ritual procession was held by Maha Gotra Pasek Sanak Sapta Rsi at Mumbul, Jungutan, Bebandem, Karangasem, on Wednesday (Jun 6). Chairman of the Ritual Committee, I Wayan Putu Komala, said amidst the event that the ritual was dedicated for 167 dead person’s spirits (sawa) whose pinnacle was held last Wednesday. Meanwhile, added Komala, the ngeroras procession including 333 dead person’s spirits who had passed through ngaben cremation (sekah) would be held on July 25, then mendak nuntun on July 28. He said the entire procession package only needed a very affordable contribution where for cremation each participant was charged at IDR 1.5 million, ngeroras (IDR 1 million) and nuntun (IDR 400,000). Komala also said that such mass Pitri Yajña by the Pasek clan in Bebandem subdistrict was the fourth time, where the first organization was at Jungutan, then the second at Buana Giri, the third at Nangka and this year at Mumbul, Jungutan. “We are going to hold the mass Pitri Yajña every five years to ease and maintain the
familial relationship as well as mutual cooperation,” said Komala. The Pitri Yajña procession was officiated over by four high priests namely Ida Pandita Mpu Dharma Sadu Daksha Nata from Griya Wates Selat, Ida Pandita Acarya Darma from Geriya Apit Yeh, Manggis, Ida Pandita Mpu Mahayoga and Ida Pandita Mpu Satya Dharma Tanaya. After leading the ritual procession, the mass ngaben cremation was commenced at the local village cemetery. It used two bade conveyors and one gajah mina, while the ritual event itself was attended by about 10,000 residents. On the other hand, the Deputy Regent of Karangasem, I Made Sukerana, said that his party was very supportive of the mass Pitri Yajña. Such shared system was believed to increase the mutual assistance and strengthen the familial relationship in the larger society. His party also urged other people to hold similar ritual events through mutual assistance. “Residents in the Bebandem subdistrict have become a pioneer and organized such a mass ngaben cremation ritual repeatedly. It will be advisable if similar ritual events can also be held by people at other villages,” he said. (013)

The crocodile with length 2.7 meters and weight 200 kilograms escaped from its owner’s cage at Perancak last Tuesday (5/6) afternoon. The situation caused panic also those who usually go fishing at Muara Perancak River were scared. Luckily the crocodile was found at Dusun Anyar, Air Kuning Village, Jembrana by tens of locals last Wednesday (6/6). The predicted 60 years old crocodile got caught in a fishing net owned by M.Daud (58) placed by locals at the river borders between Air Kuning and Kelurahan Sangkaragung. It was stated the crocodile got caught around 3 am local time as seen by his younger sibling. The net was actually used for catching fishes and shrimps. “Its mouth got caught at the fishing net. As it is twice bigger than me, I then call the locals to capture it together,” Daud stated. The locals mostly fishermen then used simple equipments such as rope and cloth to close its eyes. The crocodile did try to escape again before but then locals tied up its mouth and feet then moved it around 7 am local time

Until Tuesday afternoon around 5 pm local time, it is found that the cage next to the Muara Perancak River where the crocodile lives was holed. Hartono was shocked and weak knowing one of his female crocodile gone and so informed to locals to search and not to bathe or go fishing first at the river. He also reported to the police in case the locals couldn’t capture it and to shoot it dead. At first locals found it in the afternoon, yet it escaped from being captured and ran towards Air Kuning. Hartono have had a couple of crocodile for 20 years, before he had tigers and lion yet no longer with him and placed in Gianyar instead. “Luckily this morning we managed to find it and capture it together. Thunder headed to NBA finals, beat Spurs 107-99

OKLAHOMA CITY — After years of nagging Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks not to take him out of games, Kevin Durant finally got his wish. And now, he’s one big step closer to making his basketball dreams come true. Durant had 34 points and 14 rebounds while playing all of regulation for the first time all season, and the Thunder claimed a spot in the NBA finals by beating the San Antonio Spurs 107-99 on Wednesday night. Russell Westbrook added 25 points for the Thunder, who trailed Game 6 of the Western Conference finals by 18 in the first half and erased a 15-point halftime deficit before pulling ahead to stay in the fourth. “It’s an amazing moment for him to play like this in this moment, in this setting, and I wasn’t going to take him out,” Brooks said. “I was not going to take him out. I don’t care how many times he looked at me fatigued. He has enough, and I think all of our guys have enough to play. You just have to fight through it.” Durant grabbed the final rebound, dribbled the ball across halfcourt and raised his right fist to celebrate with a sold-out crowd wearing free white T-shirts. The franchise will play for the NBA title for the first time since 1996, before relocating from Seattle. Even before the final buzzer, Durant indulged by hugging his mother and brother seated courtside after a foul was called with 14 seconds remaining. “I never want to take those moments for granted,” Durant said. “I know it’s just one step closer to our dreams, but it felt good.” Tony Parker had 29 points and 12 assists for San Antonio, but only eight of the points and two assists came in the second half. PARIS - There is a reason why Rafa Nadal is called “the Boss” by Nicolas Almagro and on Wednesday the ruthless claycourt king fired his fellow-Spaniard in his pursuit of a record seventh Roland Garros title. Nadal defeated Almagro 7-6 6-2 6-3 to put another Spaniard David Ferrer in the firing line in Friday’s French Open semi-finals. Ferrer made it through to his first Paris semi at the ripe old age of 30 after bouncing out British world number four Andy Murray 6-4 6-7 6-3 6-2 on a soggy day in the French capital. So how did the sixth seed rate his chances of reaching Sunday’s final? “Winning a match against Rafa is almost impossible,” he summed up bluntly. At least Ferrer struck a blow for the 30-somethings. By joining Roger Federer, who turns 31 in August, in the last four, it is the first time since 1969 that two 30-year-olds have made it to the same stage at Roland Garros.
At 25, age was on Murray’s side but unfortunately he failed to make that count. The Briton, a semi-finalist last year, had never beaten a Spaniard on red dirt before Wednesday and the prospect of breaking that losing run against Ferrer looked bleak from the outset. Ferrer had sliced through the draw with a perfect 12-0 sets record and, although he dropped his first set on day 11 of the championships, Murray never looked like he had the weapons to bulldoze past an opponent nicknamed “The Wall”. Along with Ferrer, Nadal and Almagro had also won 12 consecutive sets coming into the quarter-finals but by the end of the day only one man still held an intact record.

erosity, however, was nowhere to be seen on the court. He teased Almagro during a close first set and then moved in for the kill, finishing off his opponent with his 10th ace of the match. Maria Sharapova crept closer to fulfilling her burning desire to hold aloft the Suzanne Lenglen Cup by setting up a French Open semi-final date with Petra Kvitova. Sharapova was greeted with menacing clouds and even a brief shower burst on Philippe Chatrier Court but performed a quick rain dance to slide into the last four with a 6-2 6-3 win over Estonian Kaia Kanepi. WROCLAW - The Czech Republic will draw on memories of impressive runs at past tournaments while Russia are looking to show their semi-final appearance in 2008 was no fluke when they clash in their Euro 2012 Group A opener in Wroclaw on Friday. The Czechs, who lost to Germany in the Euro 1996 final and reached the semi-finals in 2004, are determined to re-establish themselves as a force in European football after slipping to 26 in the FIFA world rankings. Malaysia’s Najib seen delaying election, boosting spending Reuters
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is planning a fresh round of cash handouts to poorer families in August, government sources said, as Prime Minister Najib Razak likely delays elections until late this year to shore up support among undecided voters. Two senior officials told Reuters the government is considering giving out payments to 5.2 million low-income households ahead of a Muslim festival in August. Najib would then present a generous election budget in September before announcing an election date, they said. Speculation has been swirling for a year over the timing of what is expected to be a fiercely fought election, which Najib must call by next March as he seeks to improve on the ruling coalition’s dismal showing at the polls four years ago. A June or July poll had been the favorite, but Najib appears to have calculated that he needs more time -- and more handouts -- to maxi-
mize his chances of regaining the two-thirds parliamentary majority that the government lost in 2008. “The window for October elections is wide open now. This is the next window after July,” said one senior government source who declined to be identified. “This is a risky election and the prime minister does not want to take any chances. He has to prove to the people that the government will be there for them. So he has to balance his reforms with social economic help,” he said. Another government source said one of the suggested dates for the election was October 14, just two weeks after Najib, who is also finance minister, presents the 2013 budget in parliament. The decision to delay the election carries risks. A worsening global downturn could impact the trade-dependent economy in the coming months, dampening the feel-good factor generated by handouts.

NEW YORK — New Yorkers lined the West Side waterfront to welcome the space shuttle Enterprise as it sailed up the Hudson River on Wednesday to its new home aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. The prototype space shuttle rode a barge from Jersey City, N.J. to the Intrepid, where it was hoisted by crane onto the flight deck. A flotilla of vessels including a police boat, a Fire Department boat and a yellow taxi boat accompanied the Enterprise as it sailed past the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center site and other Manhattan landmarks en route to the Intrepid at midtown. “I’ve never seen a space shuttle, and I’m looking at one,” said Thomas Hoffler, 69, who described himself as homeless. “I’m just spellbound.” Fashion photographer Stewart Shining, 47, said his young nephews in California had emailed him to ask if he could see the Enterprise. “I just walked over and had a peep
and took some pictures,” he said. The Enterprise’s original move-in date was Tuesday. Organizers said Monday that bad weather had delayed preparation work. The shuttle was towed to New Jersey from Kennedy Airport on Sunday. A spokeswoman for the Intrepid said the shuttle’s wingtip sustained light cosmetic damage during the Sunday trip when a gust of wind caused it to graze a wood piling. The Enterprise never went on an actual space mission; it was a fullscale test vehicle used for flights in the atmosphere and experiments on the ground. It comes to New York as part of NASA’s decision to end the shuttle program after 30 years. It is scheduled to open to the public in mid-July. Many who watched the shuttle’s passage up the Hudson posted photos on Twitter.

A nearly 70-foot-long dock that floated ashore on an Oregon beach was torn loose from a fishing port in northern Japan by last year’s tsunami and drifted across thousands of miles of Pacific Ocean, a Japanese Consulate official said Wednesday. A commemorative plaque on the dock showed it was one of four owned by Aomori Prefecture that broke loose from the port of Misawa on the northern tip of the main island, Deputy Consul Hirofumi Murabayashi said from Portland, Ore. One of the four docks turned
up several weeks later on an island south of Misawa, but the other two are still missing, said Akihisa Sato, an engineer with Zeniya Kaiyo Service, the dock’s Tokyo-based manufacturer. The docks weigh 165 tons each, Sato said. The one that floated to Oregon was first spotted floating offshore Monday, and mistaken by several people for a barge, said Chris Havel, spokesman for the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation. It washed ashore early Tuesday on Agate Beach, a mile north of Newport on the central Oregon Coast. It’s made of concrete with a metal pontoon and measures 66 feet long,
19 feet wide and 7 feet high. The distance between Japan and Oregon is roughly 5,000 miles. A starfish native to Japan was among the marine life still clinging to the structure after the long voyage, Havel said. “This is tsunami debris, not just from Japan, but from the tsunami itself,” Havel said. John Chapman, a research scientist at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center, said hundreds of millions of other organisms also hitchhiked across the ocean on the dock — some of which are invasive species never before seen on this part of the West Coast.

NEW YORK — Television journalist Barbara Walters has apologized for trying to help a former aide to Syrian President Bashar Assad land a job or get into college in the United States. The ABC veteran acknowledged the conflict in trying to help Sheherazad Jaafari, daughter of the Syrian ambassador to the United States and a one-time press aide to Assad. Jaafari helped Walters land an interview with the Syrian president that aired in December. Walters said in a statement issued Tuesday she rejected Jaafari’s later request for a job at ABC News, saying it was a conflict of interest. But she said she contacted people on Jaafari’s behalf and “I regret that.” The interview with Assad in the midst of the Syrian uprising was considered tough. Assad told Walters that no government kills its own people unless it is led by
“a crazy person.” But earlier this week the London newspaper The Telegraph printed a series of chummy emails between Jaafari and Walters that it said were obtained through Syrian opposition leaders. In January, Walters wrote to Jaafari saying she contacted CNN’s Piers Morgan and his producer “to say how terrific you are and attached your resume,” the Telegraph reported. Walters also contacted Richard Wald, a former ABC News executive now a professor at the Columbia University School of Journalism, on the woman’s behalf. A grateful Jaafari wrote that “you can never be a better mom to your adopted child (me)” and promising to buy Walters some jewelry from Syria. Despite her help, Walters noted that Jaafari did not get a job or admission to college. ABC News President Ben Sherwood had no comment, a network spokesman said Wednesday.

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

A huge floating dock cast adrift by Japan’s killer tsunami has washed up on an Oregon beach 15 months later, among the biggest pieces of flotsam to make landfall on the US West Coast so far. The 66-foot (20-meter) long rectangular structure, made of concrete and metal, was spotted floating off the coast on Monday, and then washed in with the high tide on Agate beach, 100 miles (160 kilometers) southwest of Portland. Local authorities contacted the Japanese consulate in Portland, who confirmed that it was from the March 11, 2011 tsunami, thrown up by a massive earthquake off Japan’s coast 5,500 miles across the Pacific. “Four floating docks were washed away by the tsunami. This is one of them,” deputy consul general Hirofumi Murabayashi told AFP. “The other three we don’t know where they are, if they’re floating somewhere or they sank in the ocean or not,” he added. Confirmation that the dock came from the tsunami came after Japanese writing and markings were found on various parts of
the seaweed-covered dock, including “Shibata, Japan” on tires, apparently designed to make it buoyant. Photos of the structure, and at least one Japanese-language placard attached to it, have been sent to the local Japanese consulate, Oregon State Parks Department spokesman Chris Havel told KATU 2 television news. Japanese officials confirmed that the dock -- 66 feet long, 19 feet wide and 7 feet tall -- came from the port of Misawa, in Aomori Prefecture in the northern part of Japan. The metal plaque was dated June 2008. He said the dock was able to float due to being made of concrete and styrofoam. “The surface is concrete, there’s some steel cables, inside is styrofoam,” Murabayashi said. “That’s why it floats on the sea. The dock itself doesn’t contain any hazardous materials.” The owner of the dock doesn’t
want it back. “They said they don’t wish to have it returned,” Murabayashi said. “I believe it will be disposed (of) in Oregon.” Various debris from the Japanese tsunami have begun washing up on the US and Canadian west coast, and experts predict a surge of flotsam in the coming months. Kirk Tite, visiting the Oregon beach with his young son Trevor, said: “It’s kind of scary seeing this wash up here, because we all surf.” “If this crossed the Pacific Ocean and it’s this big, that means that just about anything of our worst nightmares could cross the Pacific Ocean. So we’re kind of frightened of what’s to come,” he told KATU 2. The broadcaster said it had traced a phone number on a Japanese placard to a business located in Tokyo, called Zeniya Marine Services Company, Ltd., which builds docks and other floating marine structures.
But it’s been under attack ever since. During communism, several unsightly apartment blocks went up across the neighborhood, built by people who “did not understand the meaning and beauty of the place,” said Marta Lesniakowska, a historian of architecture with the Polish Academy of Sciences. Capitalism hasn’t been kind either. A spectacular modernist villa built in 1929 was torn down to widen a road. A square, Plac Przymierza, disappeared under a complex of apartments and shops that dwarf surrounding homes. Now developers are busy dismantling or radically restructuring prewar homes to build much larger structures — changes that erode their historic look and swallow up leafy plots that long gave the area a distinctive garden city feel. “This is not the Saska Kepa of my childhood,” says Jurkiewicz-Eckert, a 40-year-old art historian. She and her husband are members of a group trying to preserve the neighborhood, Zielona Saska Kepa — meaning Green Saska Kepa. “We are on the way to losing the old-fashioned atmosphere of the place. And it’s because of the greed of the developers.” Saska Kepa — where maple, ash and linden trees give shade to prewar homes and trendy restaurants — has the unusual distinction of surviving the war in its entirety because of its location on the eastern bank of the Vistula River, where Soviet troops sat idly during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising against the occupying German forces. Polish insurgents hoped for the support of the Red Army, which by that time had made it to Warsaw in its westward push that defeated Hitler. But Soviet leader Joseph Stalin preferred to let the Germans destroy the city and its people, knowing they would have also become a democratic opposition to Moscow’s postwar domination. Hitler’s forces, in retribution for the revolt, razed most of the city to the ground. During the decades of Soviet control that followed, the capital was rebuilt in a gray and heavy Stalinist style that is still predominant. Over the past two decades the city has been transformed again by glassskinned skyscrapers. Despite its architectural decline, Saska Kepa boasts some of the most expensive real estate in the city of 1.7 million people. The city center is only a couple of tram stops away across the river, yet a small-town residential stillness reigns over its smaller streets, quiet but for the sound of birds and dogs, the air in spring fragrant with lilacs. Streets are lined with embassies and family homes, some built in the style of classical Polish manor houses and others in the modernist Bauhaus style pioneered by Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius. It is one that is simple, boxy and restrained but for the odd bit of whimsy: a curved outdoor staircase here, circular submarine-style windows there. Elsewhere the style is celebrated: in Germany, where it arose in 1919; in Tel Aviv, where Jews who fled Europe in the 1930s made their architectural mark; in the Czech city of Brno, where the recently renovated Villa Tugendhat of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is an iconic example of modernism. The villa and Tel Aviv’s modernist buildings have been declared world heritage sites by UNESCO. Yet the simple modernist style of usually white or gray homes isn’t always valued in Poland. Sometimes their understated beauty doesn’t come through because they are rundown, their owners unable to afford restoration work. It also doesn’t help that the modernist buildings have an architectural austerity that reminds some of the also simple but bleaker style favored by the communists. “People were starved through the communist period of detail and color,” said Lidia Polubiec, an art historian and local resident trying to protect the neighborhood. “Often they don’t understand the value of simplicity.” Polubiec has witnessed residents throwing away decades-old oak doors and beautiful brass door handles that are in bad shape, replacing them with cheap modern fixtures rather than trying to salvage the old ones.

WASHINGTON - The US economy is expanding moderately but businesses remain worried over US political uncertainty and the European crisis, the Federal Reserve said in its regional economies survey Wednesday. Most of the US central bank’s 12 regions reported improving conditions over the April-May period, according to the regular “Beige Book” regional review. And “overall economic activity expanded at a moderate pace,” better than the Fed’s previous formulation in early April of “a modest to moderate pace”. But the overall picture presented was one of only mild strengthening, with the rate of growth still sluggish after the first quarter’s 1.9 percent annual pace. And, the report said, businesses are concerned that stalled growth in Europe and domestic political uncertainty ahead of November’s presidential and congressional elections “may affect future business conditions.” The Beige Book survey -- which will frame the discussions at the Fed’s next policy meeting on June 19-20 -- was more upbeat than some of the other recent data. Only one of the 12 districts, Philadelphia, reported slower
expansion since the last report. “Manufacturing continued to expand in most districts. Consumer spending was unchanged or up modestly. New vehicle sales remained strong and inventories of some popular models were tight,” the Fed said. “Travel and tourism expanded, boosted by both the business and leisure segments. Demand for nonfinancial services was generally stable to slightly higher since the last report, and several districts noted strong growth in information technology services.” Meanwhile, inflation was restrained and worries expressed in the previous report that gasoline prices were holding back economic activity diminished, as the price of the fuel has fallen. “Economic outlooks remain positive, but contacts were slightly more guarded in their optimism,” the Fed concluded. The report came as the data from other government and private agencies has cast a much dimmer picture for growth over the past two weeks.

eurozone was ready to “mobilise very rapidly” to assist Spain if Madrid requested it, tempering fears of a worsening crisis in the region’s fourth largest economy. In the US, Atlanta Federal Reserve President Dennis Lockhart said the Fed might need to consider more monetary easing if economic growth in the world’s largest oil consumer hit more road blocks. Stating that monetary policy was “appropriate” for the moment, Lockhart said in a speech posted on the bank’s website that the Fed would likely consider more action if growth stalled. “Should it become clear that something resembling my baseline scenario of continued, though modest, growth is no longer realistic, further monetary actions to support the recovery will certainly need to be considered,” he said.

NEW DELHI - India’s prime minister on Wednesday conceded the domestic economy was heading into “turbulent weather” with slowing growth and high inflation. Manmohan Singh told a meeting of his ministers and secretaries that the government must strive to revive flagging business and shore up confidence among investors in India’s economy. “After achieving remarkably high growth rates over the past eight years... we are now running into more turbulent weather,” a statement from Singh’s office quoted him as saying. Economic growth figures published last week showed the Indian economy growing at 5.3 percent in the January-March period, the slowest quarterly growth figure in nine years. Singh blamed India’s economic woes mainly on
the eurozone debt crisis and “rising international petroleum and commodity prices”. “In these difficult times, we must do everything possible to revive business and investor sentiment (and) we must work to create an atmosphere which is conducive to investment and to removing any bottlenecks to growth,” he said. Singh’s government is also under pressure to rein in subsidies and other spending after its budget deficit widened to 5.75 percent of gross domestic product in the fiscal year ended March 31. For 2012/13, the government is targeting a deficit of 5.1 percent, but analysts say this is based on a very optimistic growth estimate of 7.6 percent and under current spending plans the gap could be much larger. India’s other indicators are also a source of worry: the rupee is at historic lows against the dollar and annual inflation remains high at around 7.0 percent.

JAKARTA - Many Indonesians think that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is a polite president, a survey has revealed. “When asked about what they remember most about President SBY, they mostly mentioned his politeness,” said Muhammad Dahlan, the Soegeng Sarjadi Syndicate`s survey coordinator for the 2014 presidential candidates, here on Wednesday, when presenting the results of the survey. The survey, which covered 2,192 respondents (54.1 percent were male, while 45.9 percent were female) from 33 provinces and 163 cities and districts, was conducted during May 14-24, 2012. According to the survey coordinator, 466 people - or 21.3 percent of the total respondents - mentioned politeness as the president`s most memorable feature, while 225 respondents (10.3 percent) mentioned his tolerance and 221 (10.1 percent), his intelligence. Meanwhile, a total of 171 respondents (7.8 percent) mentioned his reputation-building activities, 134 (6.1 percent) considered him good-looking, 5.8 percent mentioned his efforts to maintain national unity, 5.3 percent remarked on his love for his family, 4.2 percent talked about the freedom of the press, and 3.0 percent, about economic growth. “However, a large number of respondents - 405 in all, or 18.5 percent - said that they did not know, while 5.8 percent gave other answers; 1.8 percent said that they did not answer,” he remarked. According to Muhammad Dahlan, most respondents thought that the president had not been maximally helped by his ministers. In all, 917 respondents (41.8 percent) believed that the ministers had not helped the president, while only 528 respondents (24.1 percent) believed that they had. Meanwhile, 678 respondents (30.9 percent), when asked this question, responded that they did not know, while 69 respondents (3.1 percent) did not respond. “Those who did not answer probably do not recognize the ministers,” Dahlan conjectured. According to Dahlan, the majority of respondents also opined that the president and Vice President Boediono had not been able to cooperate with each other harmoniously. “A total 925 respondents (42.2 percent) said that the cooperation between SBY and Boediono is not harmonious, while 697 (21.8 percent) said that it is already harmonious. A total of 539 (24.6 percent) said that they did not know, while 31 respondents (1.4 percent) did not answer,” he remarked. Dahlan added that the samples had been taken based on a stratified random sampling method through direct interviews with respondents whose education levels ranged from elementary school (37.2 percent), junior high (19.8 percent), and senior high (32.5 percent) to undergraduate (4.3 percent) and graduate (4.3 percent) programs; the respondents were in the age groups of 17-27 years (18 percent), 23-38 years (27.4 percent), 39-49 years (33 percent), and 50 years and above (21.6 percent).

MANGUPURA - Frequent crowded and creeping traffic flows at certain hours cause the underpass project works at Dewa Ruci intersection Kuta to get inhibited. The Commitment Maker Officer of the Underpass Project, Hendro Satrio, assessed the crowded traffic around the underpass project happened because many people wanted to see the road construction process. “Construction of the underpass project is not simple in terms of managing the traffic flows passing around the project location. This happens because we work at the intersection of the world, where thousands of people from various countries pass by at the location every day,” said Hendro when contacted. He said the Dewa Ruci intersection was the meeting point of traffic flows and main access to and from the tourist area like Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur and the Ngurah Rai Airport. Condition of the area had been already saturated so that it kindled traffic congestion. “Moreover, some people passing through the project deliberately slow down their vehicle in order to see the construction of the underpass project. Sometimes this makes the congestion more serious and crowded,” he said. According to him, later on the Dewa Ruci Kuta intersection underpass project would consist of 8 lanes, where four lanes were from the north and 4 other lanes from the south that often resulted in congestion. The project aimed to address traffic congestion in the area would be continuously speeded up. “Until now, working progress of the first underground road project in Bali has reached 27 percent. At the
moment, the project is working on the road widening on the west and east side and installation of culvert box on the existing waterways. During the process of widening, the functions of road traffic will not be uninterrupted,” he explained. He explained the widened road was located on the north and south of the Dewa Ruci statue. During the process of road widening, the traffic flows could continuously pass as usual from the north and south direction. After widening the road on the west and east side, the project work would move to the middle of the existing bypass road to perform excavation from the north to south that would commence in August 2012. “Later, the length of underpass will be 435 meters. There will be a hallway around the statue. Meanwhile, the Dewa Ruci statue itself remains as it is today but the roundabout will be widened,” he said. As expected, the project construction could be completed in May 2013. Aside from overcoming the traffic congestion around the Dewa Ruci Kuta intersection, the underpass was also expected to support the implementation of the APEC Summit Meeting in Nusa Dua in 2013 and AFTA in 2015. Bali Today Traffic congestion inhibits the work of Dewa Ruci underpass project Bali Post
MANGUPURA - Frequent crowded and creeping traffic flows at certain hours cause the underpass project works at Dewa Ruci intersection Kuta to get inhibited. The Commitment Maker Officer of the Underpass Project, Hendro Satrio, assessed the crowded traffic around the underpass project happened because many people wanted to see the road construction process. “Construction of the underpass project is not simple in terms of managing the traffic flows passing around the project location. This happens because we work at the intersection of the world, where thousands of people from various countries pass by at the location every day,” said Hendro when contacted. He said the Dewa Ruci intersection was the meeting point of traffic flows and main access to and from the tourist area like Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur and the Ngurah Rai Airport. Condition of the area had been already saturated so that it kindled traffic congestion. “Moreover, some people passing through the project deliberately slow down their vehicle in order to see the construction of the underpass project. Sometimes this makes the congestion more serious and crowded,” he said. According to him, later on the Dewa Ruci Kuta intersection underpass project would consist of 8 lanes, where four lanes were from the north and 4 other lanes from the south that often resulted in congestion. The project aimed to address traffic congestion in the area would be continuously speeded up. “Until now, working progress of the first underground road project in Bali has reached 27 percent. At the
moment, the project is working on the road widening on the west and east side and installation of culvert box on the existing waterways. During the process of widening, the functions of road traffic will not be uninterrupted,” he explained. He explained the widened road was located on the north and south of the Dewa Ruci statue. During the process of road widening, the traffic flows could continuously pass as usual from the north and south direction. After widening the road on the west and east side, the project work would move to the middle of the existing bypass road to perform excavation from the north to south that would commence in August 2012. “Later, the length of underpass will be 435 meters. There will be a hallway around the statue. Meanwhile, the Dewa Ruci statue itself remains as it is today but the roundabout will be widened,” he said. As expected, the project construction could be completed in May 2013. Aside from overcoming the traffic congestion around the Dewa Ruci Kuta intersection, the underpass was also expected to support the implementation of the APEC Summit Meeting in Nusa Dua in 2013 and AFTA in 2015. JAKARTA - Many Indonesians think that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is a polite president, a survey has revealed. “When asked about what they remember most about President SBY, they mostly mentioned his politeness,” said Muhammad Dahlan, the Soegeng Sarjadi Syndicate`s survey coordinator for the 2014 presidential candidates, here on Wednesday, when presenting the results of the survey. The survey, which covered 2,192 respondents (54.1 percent were male, while 45.9 percent were female) from 33 provinces and 163 cities and districts, was conducted during May 14-24, 2012. According to the survey coordinator, 466 people - or 21.3 percent of the total respondents - mentioned politeness as the president`s most memorable feature, while 225 respondents (10.3 percent) mentioned his tolerance and 221 (10.1 percent), his intelligence. Meanwhile, a total of 171 respondents (7.8 percent) mentioned his reputation-building activities, 134 (6.1 percent) considered him good-looking, 5.8 percent mentioned his efforts to maintain national unity, 5.3 percent remarked on his love for his family, 4.2 percent talked about the freedom of the press, and 3.0 percent, about economic growth. “However, a large number of respondents - 405 in all, or 18.5 percent - said that they did not know, while 5.8 percent gave other answers; 1.8 percent said that they did not answer,” he remarked. According to Muhammad Dahlan, most respondents thought that the president had not been maximally helped by his ministers. In all, 917 respondents (41.8 percent) believed that the ministers had not helped the president, while only 528 respondents (24.1 percent) believed that they had. Meanwhile, 678 respondents (30.9 percent), when asked this question, responded that they did not know, while 69 respondents (3.1 percent) did not respond. “Those who did not answer probably do not recognize the ministers,” Dahlan conjectured. According to Dahlan, the majority of respondents also opined that the president and Vice President Boediono had not been able to cooperate with each other harmoniously. “A total 925 respondents (42.2 percent) said that the cooperation between SBY and Boediono is not harmonious, while 697 (21.8 percent) said that it is already harmonious. A total of 539 (24.6 percent) said that they did not know, while 31 respondents (1.4 percent) did not answer,” he remarked. A huge floating dock cast adrift by Japan’s killer tsunami has washed up on an Oregon beach 15 months later, among the biggest pieces of flotsam to make landfall on the US West Coast so far. The 66-foot (20-meter) long rectangular structure, made of concrete and metal, was spotted floating off the coast on Monday, and then washed in with the high tide on Agate beach, 100 miles (160 kilometers) southwest of Portland. Local authorities contacted the Japanese consulate in Portland, who confirmed that it was from the March 11, 2011 tsunami, thrown up by a massive earthquake off Japan’s coast 5,500 miles across the Pacific. “Four floating docks were washed away by the tsunami. This is one of them,” deputy consul general Hirofumi Murabayashi told AFP. “The other three we don’t know where they are, if they’re floating somewhere or they sank in the ocean or not,” he added. Confirmation that the dock came from the tsunami came after Japanese writing and markings were found on various parts of
the seaweed-covered dock, including “Shibata, Japan” on tires, apparently designed to make it buoyant. Photos of the structure, and at least one Japanese-language placard attached to it, have been sent to the local Japanese consulate, Oregon State Parks Department spokesman Chris Havel told KATU 2 television news. Japanese officials confirmed that the dock -- 66 feet long, 19 feet wide and 7 feet tall -- came from the port of Misawa, in Aomori Prefecture in the northern part of Japan. The metal plaque was dated June 2008. He said the dock was able to float due to being made of concrete and styrofoam. “The surface is concrete, there’s some steel cables, inside is styrofoam,” Murabayashi said. “That’s why it floats on the sea. The dock itself doesn’t contain any hazardous materials.” The owner of the dock doesn’t

Kirk Tite, visiting the Oregon beach with his young son Trevor, said: “It’s kind of scary seeing this wash up here, because we all surf.” “If this crossed the Pacific Ocean and it’s this big, that means that just about anything of our worst nightmares could cross the Pacific Ocean. The broadcaster said it had traced a phone number on a Japanese placard to a business located in Tokyo, called Zeniya Marine Services Company, Ltd., which builds docks and other floating marine structures.
But it’s been under attack ever since. During communism, several unsightly apartment blocks went up across the neighborhood, built by people who “did not understand the meaning and beauty of the place,” said Marta Lesniakowska, a historian of architecture with the Polish Academy of Sciences. Capitalism hasn’t been kind either. A spectacular modernist villa built in 1929 was torn down to widen a road. Now developers are busy dismantling or radically restructuring prewar homes to build much larger structures — changes that erode their historic look and swallow up leafy plots that long gave the area a distinctive garden city feel. “This is not the Saska Kepa of my childhood,” says Jurkiewicz-Eckert, a 40-year-old art historian. She and her husband are members of a group trying to preserve the neighborhood, Zielona Saska Kepa — meaning Green Saska Kepa. “We are on the way to losing the old-fashioned atmosphere of the place. And it’s because of the greed of the developers.” Saska Kepa — where maple, ash and linden trees give shade to prewar homes and trendy restaurants — has the unusual distinction of surviving the war in its entirety because of its location on the eastern bank of the Vistula River, where Soviet troops sat idly during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising against the occupying German forces. Polish insurgents hoped for the support of the Red Army, which by that time had made it to Warsaw in its westward push that defeated Hitler. But Soviet leader Joseph Stalin preferred to let the Germans destroy the city and its people, knowing they would have also become a democratic opposition to Moscow’s postwar domination. Hitler’s forces, in retribution for the revolt, razed most of the city to the ground. During the decades of Soviet control that followed, the capital was rebuilt in a gray and heavy Stalinist style that is still predominant. Over the past two decades the city has been transformed again by glassskinned skyscrapers. Despite its architectural decline, Saska Kepa boasts some of the most expensive real estate in the city of 1.7 million people. The city center is only a couple of tram stops away across the river, yet a small-town residential stillness reigns over its smaller streets, quiet but for the sound of birds and dogs, the air in spring fragrant with lilacs. Streets are lined with embassies and family homes, some built in the style of classical Polish manor houses and others in the modernist Bauhaus style pioneered by Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius. It is one that is simple, boxy and restrained but for the odd bit of whimsy: a curved outdoor staircase here, circular submarine-style windows there. Elsewhere the style is celebrated: in Germany, where it arose in 1919; in Tel Aviv, where Jews who fled Europe in the 1930s made their architectural mark; in the Czech city of Brno, where the recently renovated Villa Tugendhat of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is an iconic example of modernism. The villa and Tel Aviv’s modernist buildings have been declared world heritage sites by UNESCO. Yet the simple modernist style of usually white or gray homes isn’t always valued in Poland. Sometimes their understated beauty doesn’t come through because they are rundown, their owners unable to afford restoration work. It also doesn’t help that the modernist buildings have an architectural austerity that reminds some of the also simple but bleaker style favored by the communists. “People were starved through the communist period of detail and color,” said Lidia Polubiec, an art historian and local resident trying to protect the neighborhood. “Often they don’t understand the value of simplicity.” Polubiec has witnessed residents throwing away decades-old oak doors and beautiful brass door handles that are in bad shape, replacing them with cheap modern fixtures rather than trying to salvage the old ones.

And “overall economic activity expanded at a moderate pace,” better than the Fed’s previous formulation in early April of “a modest to moderate pace”. But the overall picture presented was one of only mild strengthening, with the rate of growth still sluggish after the first quarter’s 1.9 percent annual pace. And, the report said, businesses are concerned that stalled growth in Europe and domestic political uncertainty ahead of November’s presidential and congressional elections “may affect future business conditions.” The Beige Book survey -- which will frame the discussions at the Fed’s next policy meeting on June 19-20 -- was more upbeat than some of the other recent data. Only one of the 12 districts, Philadelphia, reported slower
expansion since the last report. “Manufacturing continued to expand in most districts. Consumer spending was unchanged or up modestly. New vehicle sales remained strong and inventories of some popular models were tight,” the Fed said. “Travel and tourism expanded, boosted by both the business and leisure segments. Demand for nonfinancial services was generally stable to slightly higher since the last report, and several districts noted strong growth in information technology services.” Meanwhile, inflation was restrained and worries expressed in the previous report that gasoline prices were holding back economic activity diminished, as the price of the fuel has fallen. “Economic outlooks remain positive, but contacts were slightly more guarded in their optimism,” the Fed concluded. The report came as the data from other government and private agencies has cast a much dimmer picture for growth over the past two weeks.

In the US, Atlanta Federal Reserve President Dennis Lockhart said the Fed might need to consider more monetary easing if economic growth in the world’s largest oil consumer hit more road blocks. Stating that monetary policy was “appropriate” for the moment, Lockhart said in a speech posted on the bank’s website that the Fed would likely consider more action if growth stalled. “Should it become clear that something resembling my baseline scenario of continued, though modest, growth is no longer realistic, further monetary actions to support the recovery will certainly need to be considered,” he said.

Manmohan Singh told a meeting of his ministers and secretaries that the government must strive to revive flagging business and shore up confidence among investors in India’s economy. “After achieving remarkably high growth rates over the past eight years... we are now running into more turbulent weather,” a statement from Singh’s office quoted him as saying. Economic growth figures published last week showed the Indian economy growing at 5.3 percent in the January-March period, the slowest quarterly growth figure in nine years. Singh blamed India’s economic woes mainly on
the eurozone debt crisis and “rising international petroleum and commodity prices”. “In these difficult times, we must do everything possible to revive business and investor sentiment (and) we must work to create an atmosphere which is conducive to investment and to removing any bottlenecks to growth,” he said. Singh’s government is also under pressure to rein in subsidies and other spending after its budget deficit widened to 5.75 percent of gross domestic product in the fiscal year ended March 31. For 2012/13, the government is targeting a deficit of 5.1 percent, but analysts say this is based on a very optimistic growth estimate of 7.6 percent and under current spending plans the gap could be much larger. India’s other indicators are also a source of worry: the rupee is at historic lows against the dollar and annual inflation remains high at around 7.0 percent.

NEW YORK — Television journalist Barbara Walters has apologized for trying to help a former aide to Syrian President Bashar Assad land a job or get into college in the United States. The ABC veteran acknowledged the conflict in trying to help Sheherazad Jaafari, daughter of the Syrian ambassador to the United States and a one-time press aide to Assad. Jaafari helped Walters land an interview with the Syrian president that aired in December. Walters said in a statement issued Tuesday she rejected Jaafari’s later request for a job at ABC News, saying it was a conflict of interest. But she said she contacted people on Jaafari’s behalf and “I regret that.” The interview with Assad in the midst of the Syrian uprising was considered tough. Assad told Walters that no government kills its own people unless it is led by
“a crazy person.” But earlier this week the London newspaper The Telegraph printed a series of chummy emails between Jaafari and Walters that it said were obtained through Syrian opposition leaders. In January, Walters wrote to Jaafari saying she contacted CNN’s Piers Morgan and his producer “to say how terrific you are and attached your resume,” the Telegraph reported. Walters also contacted Richard Wald, a former ABC News executive now a professor at the Columbia University School of Journalism, on the woman’s behalf. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Malaysia’s Najib seen delaying election, boosting spending Reuters
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is planning a fresh round of cash handouts to poorer families in August, government sources said, as Prime Minister Najib Razak likely delays elections until late this year to shore up support among undecided voters. Two senior officials told Reuters the government is considering giving out payments to 5.2 million low-income households ahead of a Muslim festival in August. Najib would then present a generous election budget in September before announcing an election date, they said. Speculation has been swirling for a year over the timing of what is expected to be a fiercely fought election, which Najib must call by next March as he seeks to improve on the ruling coalition’s dismal showing at the polls four years ago. A June or July poll had been the favorite, but Najib appears to have calculated that he needs more time -- and more handouts -- to maxi-
mize his chances of regaining the two-thirds parliamentary majority that the government lost in 2008. “The window for October elections is wide open now. This is the next window after July,” said one senior government source who declined to be identified. “This is a risky election and the prime minister does not want to take any chances. He has to prove to the people that the government will be there for them. So he has to balance his reforms with social economic help,” he said. Another government source said one of the suggested dates for the election was October 14, just two weeks after Najib, who is also finance minister, presents the 2013 budget in parliament. The decision to delay the election carries risks. A worsening global downturn could impact the trade-dependent economy in the coming months, dampening the feel-good factor generated by handouts.

Francis Ogboro, an executive who oversees Dana Air, also told journalists the MD-83 that crashed Sunday underwent strenuous checks like the others the carrier owns and that he routinely flies. The chief engineer “certainly would not have allowed that aircraft to take off” if there was a problem, Ogboro said Wednesday. “No airline crew would go on a suicide mission.” Emergency officials on Wednesday stopped searching for those killed at the crash site in

NEW YORK — New Yorkers lined the West Side waterfront to welcome the space shuttle Enterprise as it sailed up the Hudson River on Wednesday to its new home aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. The prototype space shuttle rode a barge from Jersey City, N.J. to the Intrepid, where it was hoisted by crane onto the flight deck. A flotilla of vessels including a police boat, a Fire Department boat and a yellow taxi boat accompanied the Enterprise as it sailed past the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center site and other Manhattan landmarks en route to the Intrepid at midtown. “I’ve never seen a space shuttle, and I’m looking at one,” said Thomas Hoffler, 69, who described himself as homeless. “I’m just spellbound.” Fashion photographer Stewart Shining, 47, said his young nephews in California had emailed him to ask if he could see the Enterprise. “I just walked over and had a peep
and took some pictures,” he said. A spokeswoman for the Intrepid said the shuttle’s wingtip sustained light cosmetic damage during the Sunday trip when a gust of wind caused it to graze a wood piling. A nearly 70-foot-long dock that floated ashore on an Oregon beach was torn loose from a fishing port in northern Japan by last year’s tsunami and drifted across thousands of miles of Pacific Ocean, a Japanese Consulate official said Wednesday. A commemorative plaque on the dock showed it was one of four owned by Aomori Prefecture that broke loose from the port of Misawa on the northern tip of the main island, Deputy Consul Hirofumi Murabayashi said from Portland, Ore. One of the four docks turned
up several weeks later on an island south of Misawa, but the other two are still missing, said Akihisa Sato, an engineer with Zeniya Kaiyo Service, the dock’s Tokyo-based manufacturer. The docks weigh 165 tons each, Sato said. The one that floated to Oregon was first spotted floating offshore Monday, and mistaken by several people for a barge, said Chris Havel, spokesman for the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation. It washed ashore early Tuesday on Agate Beach, a mile north of Newport on the central Oregon Coast. It’s made of concrete with a metal pontoon and measures 66 feet long,
19 feet wide and 7 feet high. The distance between Japan and Oregon is roughly 5,000 miles. A starfish native to Japan was among the marine life still clinging to the structure after the long voyage, Havel said. “This is tsunami debris, not just from Japan, but from the tsunami itself,” Havel said. John Chapman, a research scientist at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center, said hundreds of millions of other organisms also hitchhiked across the ocean on the dock — some of which are invasive species never before seen on this part of the West Coast.

WROCLAW - The Czech Republic will draw on memories of impressive runs at past tournaments while Russia are looking to show their semi-final appearance in 2008 was no fluke when they clash in their Euro 2012 Group A opener in Wroclaw on Friday. The Czechs, who lost to Germany in the Euro 1996 final and reached the semi-finals in 2004, are determined to re-establish themselves as a force in European football after slipping to 26 in the FIFA world rankings. The ngaben, ngeroras and nuntun mass ritual procession was held by Maha Gotra Pasek Sanak Sapta Rsi at Mumbul, Jungutan, Bebandem, Karangasem, on Wednesday (Jun 6). Chairman of the Ritual Committee, I Wayan Putu Komala, said amidst the event that the ritual was dedicated for 167 dead person’s spirits (sawa) whose pinnacle was held last Wednesday. Meanwhile, added Komala, the ngeroras procession including 333 dead person’s spirits who had passed through ngaben cremation (sekah) would be held on July 25, then mendak nuntun on July 28. He said the entire procession package only needed a very affordable contribution where for cremation each participant was charged at IDR 1.5 million, ngeroras (IDR 1 million) and nuntun (IDR 400,000). Komala also said that such mass Pitri Yajña by the Pasek clan in Bebandem subdistrict was the fourth time, where the first organization was at Jungutan, then the second at Buana Giri, the third at Nangka and this year at Mumbul, Jungutan. “We are going to hold the mass Pitri Yajña every five years to ease and maintain the
familial relationship as well as mutual cooperation,” said Komala. The Pitri Yajña procession was officiated over by four high priests namely Ida Pandita Mpu Dharma Sadu Daksha Nata from Griya Wates Selat, Ida Pandita Acarya Darma from Geriya Apit Yeh, Manggis, Ida Pandita Mpu Mahayoga and Ida Pandita Mpu Satya Dharma Tanaya. After leading the ritual procession, the mass ngaben cremation was commenced at the local village cemetery. It used two bade conveyors and one gajah mina, while the ritual event itself was attended by about 10,000 residents. On the other hand, the Deputy Regent of Karangasem, I Made Sukerana, said that his party was very supportive of the mass Pitri Yajña. Such shared system was believed to increase the mutual assistance and strengthen the familial relationship in the larger society. His party also urged other people to hold similar ritual events through mutual assistance. “Residents in the Bebandem subdistrict have become a pioneer and organized such a mass ngaben cremation ritual repeatedly. It will be advisable if similar ritual events can also be held by people at other villages,” he said. (013)

The crocodile with length 2.7 meters and weight 200 kilograms escaped from its owner’s cage at Perancak last Tuesday (5/6) afternoon. The situation caused panic also those who usually go fishing at Muara Perancak River were scared. Luckily the crocodile was found at Dusun Anyar, Air Kuning Village, Jembrana by tens of locals last Wednesday (6/6). The predicted 60 years old crocodile got caught in a fishing net owned by M.Daud (58) placed by locals at the river borders between Air Kuning and Kelurahan Sangkaragung. It was stated the crocodile got caught around 3 am local time as seen by his younger sibling. The net was actually used for catching fishes and shrimps. “Its mouth got caught at the fishing net. As it is twice bigger than me, I then call the locals to capture it together,” Daud stated. The locals mostly fishermen then used simple equipments such as rope and cloth to close its eyes. Hartono was shocked and weak knowing one of his female crocodile gone and so informed to locals to search and not to bathe or go fishing first at the river. He also reported to the police in case the locals couldn’t capture it and to shoot it dead. At first locals found it in the afternoon, yet it escaped from being captured and ran towards Air Kuning. Hartono have had a couple of crocodile for 20 years, before he had tigers and lion yet no longer with him and placed in Gianyar instead. “Luckily this morning we managed to find it and capture it together. OKLAHOMA CITY — After years of nagging Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks not to take him out of games, Kevin Durant finally got his wish. And now, he’s one big step closer to making his basketball dreams come true. Durant had 34 points and 14 rebounds while playing all of regulation for the first time all season, and the Thunder claimed a spot in the NBA finals by beating the San Antonio Spurs 107-99 on Wednesday night. Russell Westbrook added 25 points for the Thunder, who trailed Game 6 of the Western Conference finals by 18 in the first half and erased a 15-point halftime deficit before pulling ahead to stay in the fourth. “It’s an amazing moment for him to play like this in this moment, in this setting, and I wasn’t going to take him out,” Brooks said. “I was not going to take him out. I don’t care how many times he looked at me fatigued. He has enough, and I think all of our guys have enough to play. You just have to fight through it.” Durant grabbed the final rebound, dribbled the ball across halfcourt and raised his right fist to celebrate with a sold-out crowd wearing free white T-shirts. The franchise will play for the NBA title for the first time since 1996, before relocating from Seattle. Even before the final buzzer, Durant indulged by hugging his mother and brother seated courtside after a foul was called with 14 seconds remaining. “I never want to take those moments for granted,” Durant said. “I know it’s just one step closer to our dreams, but it felt good.” Tony Parker had 29 points and 12 assists for San Antonio, but only eight of the points and two assists came in the second half. PARIS - There is a reason why Rafa Nadal is called “the Boss” by Nicolas Almagro and on Wednesday the ruthless claycourt king fired his fellow-Spaniard in his pursuit of a record seventh Roland Garros title. Nadal defeated Almagro 7-6 6-2 6-3 to put another Spaniard David Ferrer in the firing line in Friday’s French Open semi-finals. Ferrer made it through to his first Paris semi at the ripe old age of 30 after bouncing out British world number four Andy Murray 6-4 6-7 6-3 6-2 on a soggy day in the French capital. So how did the sixth seed rate his chances of reaching Sunday’s final? “Winning a match against Rafa is almost impossible,” he summed up bluntly. At least Ferrer struck a blow for the 30-somethings. By joining Roger Federer, who turns 31 in August, in the last four, it is the first time since 1969 that two 30-year-olds have made it to the same stage at Roland Garros.
At 25, age was on Murray’s side but unfortunately he failed to make that count. The Briton, a semi-finalist last year, had never beaten a Spaniard on red dirt before Wednesday and the prospect of breaking that losing run against Ferrer looked bleak from the outset. Ferrer had sliced through the draw with a perfect 12-0 sets record and, although he dropped his first set on day 11 of the championships, Murray never looked like he had the weapons to bulldoze past an opponent nicknamed “The Wall”. maha like braking and corner entry is what you need at this track, so when we come back for the race later in the season I am sure I will be very competitive. “We were able to confirm the improvement from the electronics here and I am looking forward to using them next week in Silverstone. The upgrade gives me better control on old tyres and also the endurance of the tyre is longer, so this will be a good advantage over a race distance.” Dovizioso’s best lap was 0.7sec from factory Yamaha rider and world championship Jorge Lorenzo.

these areas since the beginning of the season and Canada will be a good test in this respect,” he said. “Hopefully this weekend we will see a competitive Ferrari and that will be very important for us, not just for this race but also for the rest of the season. “I don’t see any reason why Ferrari should not be competitive in Canada, fighting for the top places come the end of the race. According to him, the destruction of coral reef ecosystems was also caused by the development of non-eco-friendly marine tourism and climate change. If such condition was not immediately addressed it was ascertained to lead to the collapse of coral reef ecosystems.

— with a retractable fiberglass roof and a shimmery red-and-white facade in the colors of the national flag — is a source of pride, a symbol of a capitalist surge that has remade the country since it threw off communism in 1989. To others, the 58,000-seat arena is an eyesore and the latest affront to a unique neighborhood already threatened by a rising class of entrepreneurs and developers. Proof,
