Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West welcomed a baby boy early Saturday in Los Angeles. “He’s here!” the reality star teased on Twitter. An announcement on Kardashian’s website reads, “KANYE AND I WELCOME OUR BABY BOY!” A representative for the couple confirms to The Associated Press that mom and baby are doing well. There was no immediate word on the baby’s
name. Kardashian West has tracked her pregnancy online for her 37 million Twitter followers, posting an image late Friday of her bare belly with the caption, “Ready whenever you are lol.” This is the second child for the stellar couple: Daughter North was born in 2013.
Kardashian, 35, and West, 38, were married last year in Florence, Italy, in a gala ceremony filmed for E!’s “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” West proposed to his bride in October 2013, renting out San Francisco’s AT&T Park for the occasion. TUNICA, Mississippi — Morgan Freeman says he was aboard his plane when it had to make an unexpected landing in Mississippi, but nobody was injured. Mayor Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, a longtime friend of the actor, confirms the plane made a controlled
forced landing before dark Saturday. Freeman released a statement saying he was headed to Texas to shoot a segment for the series “The Story of God.” He says, “Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff, which caused other problems.”
He says they “landed safely without a scratch.” He says he can’t say the same about his plane. Luckett says Freeman and the pilot were aboard the flight that originated in Clarksdale, and another plane was en route to Tunica, the landing site, to pick Freeman up. (ap)
MIAMI BEACH, Florida — Katie Holmes sings, dances and is even making her directorial debut, but the actress admits she’s not much of an art collector and was eager to explore Art Basel Miami Beach for the first time. Holmes walked the red carpet for a party toasting her Ocean Drive magazine cover at a private home on South Beach on Friday night. “I really appreciate art,” said Holmes, who said she follows Jose Parla on Instagram and is friends with the photographer who goes by JR. She’s also a fan of Cy Twombly. “I have a toe in the art world.” She also enjoys painting with Suri, her 9-year-old daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise, but says dismissively “it’s just a hobby. We just have fun.” Holmes, who wore a red Azzedine Alaia dress and Manolo Blahnik heels, was among dozens of celebrities who descended on the prestigious art fair this week, including rocker Lenny Kravitz, who unveiled a photo exhibit, Alicia Keys, Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin and Leonardo DiCaprio. ALTHOUGH Nusa Penida is know as being a very dry area, marine tourism has become very popular and Penida Beach in Sakti village receives hundreds of visitors a day. The local community however, particularly the supporting devotees of Pura Penida complain that they do not rceeive any benefits from tourism and are requesting that their be a charge for people wanting to visit their area. Penida Beach is located 15 km to the west of the Sampalan Port right in front of Pura Penida. This white sandy beach has become a playground for tourists who come to enjoy the sand and to go snorkelling to marvel at the coral reefs, especially at Cristal Bay. “Every day the beach is thronged by some 100 to 200 visitors,” said I Nyoman Sadar, one of the supporting devotees or pengempon of Pura Panida. However, he complained that despite the large number of tourists, local residents have yet to feel the benefits of tourism. “There are approximately 2000 families that support the temple, but none of us enjoy the impact of the tourist who visit the beach right in from of our temple. PARIS - On Friday Deceber 4th at 4:30 p.m. Paris time, activists from WALHI or Friends of the Earth (FoE) Indonesia, Friends of the Earth International and FoE youth group, took action at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)’s COP 21 (Conference of the Parties) -held in Paris this year, in order to voice the need to protect coastal areas and small islands in Indonesia from the threat of land conversion, such as the ongoing massive reclamation projects in Bali. The activists showed up in response to a speech made by the president of the Republic of Indonesia on the first day of the UNFCCC, in which he said that 60 percent of Indonesians live on coastline and are thus vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
The presence of Friends of the Earth also served as a form of resistance against green washing campaigns being carried out at COP 21 Paris’ Indonesian Pavillion by investors, including the real estate investors that are wanting to reclaim Benoa Bay. During the COP 21 Paris, several
corporations and other businesses were attempting to ‘green wash’ the environmentally destructive actions of their companies, by presenting themselves as caring about the environmental and climate change. The company that is wanting to conduct reclamation in Benoa Bay (Bali) was present at the Indonesian Pavilion, spouting such claims, though several public events. Again, we saw the state facilitating ‘corporate green washing’ by environmental criminals who burn down forests and contribute to the largest noxious emissions in the world. Khalisah Khalid, WALHI’s National Executive, who attended the
event, said that FoE was making a point of rejecting the Benoa Bay reclamation project at the COP 21 in Paris, as a way to remind President Joko Widodo that if the government is aware of the vulnerability of coastal areas as impacted by climate change, then it is high time to create domestic policies that support the preservation of these areas and put a stop to reclamation projects in several Indonesian cities. This includes the reclamation of Benoa Bay that is disguised as revitalization, the reclamation at Palu Bay, Maksassar and also the reclamation of Jakarta Bay. If the speech made by the president at the COP 21 Paris is not ac-
companied by national policy, Khalid fears that the positive image that comes from making commitments in the international arena to environmentally sound practices, will remain nothing more than an image, putting the safety of the people and the environment at stake. Head of the Klungkung Tourism Office, I Wayan Sujana, said that the district government has attempted to find private investors to help develop the area of Nusa Penida and have a positive impact on local communities. “The beach has become one of Klungkung’s leading destinations. There are already some investors who interested in the area and continue to promote this destination,” he said.

Aside to finding investors, the government of Klungkung has also reprioritize the islands of Klungkung for improvements in 2016. More funds have been allocated to repair Nusa Penida’s severely damaged roads and plans are being made to create a ring road on the island. Klungkung’s Public Works is also seeking funding from the central government for the planning and compensation for the creation of the ring road. Highways Division Head at the Klungkung Public Works, A.A. Gede Lesmana, explained that from the four
subdistricts in Klungkung, Nusa Penida has the most damaged roads. “Among the existing subdistricts, Nusa Penida has the worst roads, so a large portion of the budget is going towards repairing them,” he confirmed. Lesmana also explained that most roads in Nusa Penida are created independently so seldom do they meet technical specification requirements, as a result many roads are now in urgent need of repair. Repairs to existing roads is also meant to support the creation of the ring road that will require about 68 hectares of land. These repairs to infrastructure are expected
to reduce the number of complaints about travelling in the area. Gede Lesmana also revealed that they will be using cold mix asphalt for road construction in Nusa Penida. There have been no significant obstacles in the use of cold mix that was used on some section soy road in 2015. Cold mix asphalt is also easier to transport over sea. “We will continue to use cold mix in 2016,” he stated, adding that this emulsion asphalt material meets the Standards of Indonesia (SNI) - as of 2011 and is often used to fill in potholes. mix asphalt will be used to cover an entire stretch of road. In fact, this road project -worth billions of rupiahs that will be carried out in Nusa Penida is the first of its kind in Indonesia. There are many road paving projects set to take place in Nusa Penida including the ToyapakehSebunibus road section (IDR 2.41 billion), Jungutbatu-Lembongan road section (IDR 7.34 billion) and Toyapakeh-Suana road section (IDR 10.39 billion). Various measures have been undertaken by the marine conservation area (KKP) officers of Nusa Penida, Klungkung, in maintaining and preserving marine biodiversity. Other than making regular patrol around the KKP area, the officers also put up warning signs that essentially invites the public or visitors to take care of the marine environment. Unmitigatedly the warning signs are mounted at 16 different points of tourism area in Nusa Penida. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Security heightened even as North Korea tries to woo tourists
PYONGYANG — So you’re thinking of taking an exotic vacation, having a little adventure and coming back with lots of stories for your envious friends and colleagues. Believe it or not, North Korea might just be the place for you. But watch what you bring. And what you do. And what you say. While North Korea is making a strong push to increase the number of tourists who visit the country each year — currently a few thousand come from Western countries and more from neighboring China — it is stepping up its enforcement of a broad set of strict but sometimes ambiguously implemented regulations about what foreign visitors can bring with them or what they can do while in the country. North Korea’s push for tourists began in 2013 and visitors can now enjoy a surprisingly broad array of options, from helicopter rides over the capital to surfing on the country’s scenic eastern coast. With winter now setting in, the North is hoping its newly opened luxury ski resort near the city of Wonsan, which was largely empty of tourists last season while Pyongyang closed its borders over Ebola fears, will be a big draw. Even so, the pro-tourism policy, like many other business opportunities that involve dealing with and possibly making concessions to the outside world, poses an obvious conundrum for Pyongyang — the
potential of economic gains that require change, versus concerns about how that might undermine regime security. “Despite the policy of getting more tourists, they still see security, or at least perceptions of security, as a bigger concern, and tourism is pretty far down the list of priorities,” said Simon Cockerell of Beijing-based Koryo Tours, which has specialized in North Korea travel since 1993. “It’s clear that the restrictions, rules and so on often act against increasing tourist numbers.” For those visitors who do break the rules, the risks of detention, arrest and possibly even jail sentences are real enough, especially if the offender is from the United States. The U.S. State Department recently updated and expanded its already blunt warning against North Korean travel. In a nutshell, its advice is simple: Just don’t do it. “While tourism and the flexibility of travel in the DPRK has expanded, there has been a measurable increase in security at the borders,” said Andrea Lee, CEO of
New Jersey-based Uri Tours, which has been organizing tours to the North — officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea — for 15 years. Detentions and arrests, while certain to grab international headlines, are actually quite rare. Most involve extenuating circumstances, such as illegal border crossings or religious or political activities that lead to fairly predictable problems. The vast majority of tourists also visit on carefully orchestrated tours arranged by major agencies that specialize in travel to the North and are well versed in the latest set of dos and don’ts, which they pass on to their clients before anyone boards the flight to Pyongyang. “I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble by accident or by doing something that they genuinely thought would not cause them any trouble,” Cockerell said. “There are rules and laws, of course, that differ from those most visitors are used to, but they are not secret and responsible companies advise their clients in advance what can and can’t be done.” Just how does one toe the line in one of the world’s most authoritarian countries? For many, the first test comes while they are still in the air.

On North Korea’s flagship airline, Air Koryo, cabin attendants sternly scold passengers shooting souvenir photos and delete anything they decide is inappropriate. English-language newspapers are available on most flights, but crumpling them will bring a lecture and possibly require a written apology. Newspapers inevitably feature photos of Kim Jong Un and defacing the leader’s image is a serious crime. Customs can also be a shock. Scrutiny of books is increasing to the point some agencies advise against bringing any at all. At Pyongyang’s new airport, officials recently started to not only turn on laptops but to also at times search whatever is on them extensively. They can and often do, as the most recent State Department warning noted, “inspect USB drives, CDs, DVDs, mobile phones, tablets, laptops, or any other electronic and multimedia devices brought into the country. Internet browsing histories and cookies on travelers’ computers and other electronic devices are subject to search for banned content, including pornography or material critical of the DPRK government.”
Anything pro-South Korea, of course, is a no-no. And heaven forbid taking a Bible. Once inside the country, visitors can expect to have virtually no freedom to roam about unescorted. But they can still land in hot water if they start up conversations with random people on the street, do anything that smacks of politicking or proselytizing, attempt to exchange currency with an unauthorized vendor, take unauthorized photographs, shop at stores not designated for foreigners or in any way show disrespect to the “Great Persons of Mount Paektu” — national founder Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il and the current dictator, Kim Jong Un. And, as the State Department warns, if you take a mobile phone and feel like calling home, “please keep in mind that you have no right to privacy in North Korea and should assume your communications are monitored.” So, is it worth it? Seeing North Korea first-hand can be a great opportunity to learn something about one of the most enigmatic places on the planet. But like the 24 million people who live here, for whom the pleasures of tourism abroad are not an option, you won’t have much freedom to really make the most of it. (ap)

Tens of elementary school buildings urgently need renovation
DENPASAR - Damaged school buildings still become a problem for the municipal government of Denpasar. Gradual repair has been able to reduce this problem. However, in 2016, at least 23 primary school buildings have owned their detailed engineering design to be worked on immediately. It was confirmed by the spokesman of the PDI-P in the Denpasar House of Representatives, I.B. Kompyang Wiranata. He said that one of the problems faced by Denpasar is the infrastructure of elementary school. He reminded the Denpasar Education Agency of immediately resolving the problem of school infrastructure, particularly that of primary schools. “Aside from junior high, high school and vocational school, there are currently 23 primary schools that have completed the preparation of detailed engineering design (DED) and have been listed in the building renovation. Therefore, as the budget user we encourage the Education Agency to maximally use the budget to resolve the school infrastructure problems, especially that of primary schools,” said Kompyang Wiranata. In addition to the construction of new buildings or classrooms, added Kompyang Wiranata, the parliament also re-encouraged the Mayor of Denpasar through the Education Agency to conduct a comprehensive study related to the growth and number of graduating students. BUSINESS GM to sell China-made vehicle in US first NEW YORK - General Motors says it will sell in the United States next year a vehicle made in China, becoming the first major US automaker to do so. The move was quickly denounced by the powerful UAW auto union, which branded it “a slap in the face” and called for an immediate rethink. GM has sold 127,085 Buick Envision SUVs, made in the eastern province of Shandong, since January in China. The automaker plans to import 30,000 to 40,000 of the vehicles each year, amid high demand for 4X4, crossover and pickup trucks in North America, as oil prices dip. The controversial announcement comes as labor costs are set to rise for GM in the United States following a wage deal currently being finalized. “Today’s announcement by General Motors that they are importing the Envision from China is a slap in the face to US taxpayers and the men and women who worked so hard to save GM during its darkest time,” UAW vice president and director of the General Motors Department, Cindy Estrada, said in a statement. China became GM’s biggest market last year, but a slowdown in the Chinese economy allowed North America to regain its top spot in the first nine months of 2015. WASHINGTON - Global smartphone sales growth will cool to single digits for the first time ever amid a slowdown in China, a new market forecast said Thursday. The research firm IDC said it expects worldwide smartphone shipments to grow 9.8 percent in 2015 to a total of 1.43 billion units. The forecast was updated to reflect slower growth in many Asian markets, Latin America and western Europe. The cooling is expected to continue through 2019, IDC said. One key market in focus is China, which will be hit by an economic slowdown and is largely saturated. “IDC maintains its view that China has largely become a replacement market,” the new forecast report said. The strongest growth will come from the Middle East and Africa, with gains of nearly 50 percent, overtaking other emerging economies such as India and Indonesia. “With the smartphone market finally slowing to single-digit growth, maintaining momentum will depend on several factors,” said IDC analyst Ryan Reith. “The main driver has been and will continue to be the success of low-cost smartphones in emerging markets. This, in turn, will depend on capturing value-oriented first-time smartphone buyers as well as replacement buyers.” In some emerging economies replacement cycles will be less than the typical two-year rate, “mainly because the components that comprise a sub-$100 smartphone simply do not have the ability to survive two years,” Reith said. “Offering products that appeal to both types of buyers at a suitable price point will be crucial to maintaining growth and vendor success.” IDC said Android is likely to remain dominant this year with a market share of 81.2 percent while Apple captures 15.8 percent of the market. The coalition government, which enjoys a narrow majority, managed to push the budget through with 153 votes for and 145 against after a late-night session. The leftist government of Alexis Tsipras is trying to apply the terms of an unpopular third EU economic bailout, enacted in July in return for safeguarding the country’s place in the eurozone by restructuring its economy. “Nobody can cheer for this tough budget”, Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos said late on Saturday during the tumultuous parliamentary discussion. The 2016 budget, the first by the leftist Syriza-led government,
expects zero economic growth in 2015 -- better than an October forecast of a 2.3-percent contraction. For 2016, it projects a 0.7percent contraction, again better than the initial 1.3 percent forecast in the draft budget. “Behind the (budget’s) numbers anybody can see the agonising effort to support the working classes” Tsipras said early Sunday, describing the budget as “a difficult exercise”. The Greek government has already seen its parliamentary majority dwindle from 155 to 153 seats in its effort to implement the tough measures imposed by its creditors.

The two travelers from Perth, Australia, are Kevin Henry, 32, and his companion, Nathan Robert, 35, while another traveler is from Surabaya, Lula 18. A few moments later, the boat was hit by huge waves as high as 2.5 meters. Lula bounced into the sea. The boat was washed out and lost somewhere. After that, Lula swam to save himself to the FADs. He contacted his friends, Henry and Nathan in the sea that the boat vanished as being swept away by violent waves. They were both told to go up and dock to FADs. Then, they docked and rescued themselves on the FADs owned by a
group of fishermen in the hope there would be fishermen coming to save them. Since they did not come home until that night the hotel staff where he was staying reported the case to SAR Station of Karangasem. The SAR authority received the initial report about the three missing persons at 11:30 p.m., Friday (Dec. 4). At that time, the SAR team planned a search on Saturday morning. Chief of the SAR Station, Ida Bagus Surya, said on Saturday that his authority deployed two inflatable boats and had to search by combing the coastal areas toward Selang Pegat, coastal border of Bunutan and Seraya village. A few moments later came the defendant Hendri and Wajid. At that time, they spoke to the witness I.B. Ari Brahmiarta posing as assistant to supervisor at the airport. After that, Wajid returned the smartphone owned by Tao Zang and Jian Dang with the victim. Such incident was then reported to police station. Police authority asked the victim witness and companions of the victim to show the crime scene experienced by the victim at the Ngurah Rai Airport. Due to such incident, the victim suffered material losses worth USD 22,000 and experienced fear and discomfort. LONDON — A stabbing at a London Underground station is being treated as “terrorist incident,” the London police said Saturday. JAKARTA - Singapore has stated its interest to invest in the pharmacy industry worth US$15 million. “Singapore will use the three-hour service facility system in arranging the permit of its plan to make investment in the pharmacy sector,” Chief of Investment Coordinating Board Franky Sibarani stated on Sunday. Franky said the candidate investor company has a data centre operated in India with employment reached 12 thousand people in the world. The company employs 600 researchers and markets their products to 18 European countries and also more than 30 others in the world. The investor is the first company who utilize nano technology for pharmacy industry. “Its product is a medicine used to protect live cell from cancer and eliminate cancer,” Franky said. According to Franky, the company is interested to invest in Indonesia because the country has big market, added with other ASEAN countries. Indonesia, says Franky, need investment in pharmacy industry to
boost technology transfer. The Board noted that the company also is a also a challenge to Indonesia, particularly the related ministries, to provide service for permit in a short length of time. “Thus, the coordinating board pushes the relevant agency to process permits in three hours as the investment will involved an amount of US$8 million,” Franky went on. Enchanting Komodo EAST NUSA TENGGARA Real dragons spurt no fire, have no need to fly and cast no magic spells. And still, one look from them might render you speechless. These komodos, the real life dragons, are a sight indeed. Gigantic, the lizard-like creatures are about two or three meters in length. They can easily weigh about 165 kilograms. Despite of their sheer size and appearance, they are not active hunters. What makes them intimidating is the fact that they are a patient predator. In the wild, they stalk a victim, usually a weak or injured one. One bite and that’s what it usually takes. Lyon bid a disappointing farewell to its famous stadium as it lost 2-0 to Angers in its last Ligue 1 match at the Stade Gerland on Saturday. More than a 100 former Lyon players were present at the Stade Gerland — which has been Lyon’s home since the club was founded in 1950. The players on the pitch were booed off by their own fans after a dismal performance. The last competitive match at the Gerland will be on Dec. 16, against Tours in the league cup. Cheikh N’Doye scored in each half for Angers and, apart from a brief period during which Mathieu Valbuena hit the bar and Alexandre Lacazette had a goal ruled out for offside, Lyon rarely threatened. Angers moved second, 15 points behind runaway leader Paris Saint-Germain and a point above Caen, which lost 2-1 against struggling Lille. It was Lille’s second successive win, after having not won in two months prior to its surprise victory over Saint-Etienne midweek. Lille leapt out of the relegation zone and into 12th spot, ahead of the rest of the weekend’s games.

Warrants issued for Guatemala Football Federation president
GUATEMALA CITY — Guatemalan prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for Brayan Jimenez, president of the country’s football federation, who is accused in a widening bribery investigation into FIFA. Public Ministry official Francisco Rivas said Guatemala received a request Thursday from the United States for Jimenez’s apprehension and possible extradition. Rivas says, “It was also requested that articles or objects of value belonging to him be seized.” Jimenez did not make any public
comments on Friday, and his whereabouts were not clear. On Thursday he said he had not yet seen the accusations and intended to consult with his lawyers. The federation announced that Jimenez would be provisionally suspended as president. Guatemalan judge Hector Trujillo, who is charged with racketeering in the case, was arrested Friday aboard a cruise ship at Port Canaveral, Florida. Fifteen other soccer officials are charged in the latest indictment. (ap)
New low for Chelsea as Bournemouth stuns Mourinho’s champs LONDON — Not long ago Chelsea losing to Bournemouth in the Premier League would have been inconceivable. Actually impossible. For much of the 21st century Chelsea has been collecting every major trophy in European football, while Bournemouth has fought to stay in business or avoid dropping out of England’s professionals leagues. No wonder then that Bournemouth’s 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday was acclaimed by manager Eddie Howe as “the best individual result in the club’s history.” Not since 2001 had Chelsea lost to a Premier League newcomer. Yet on another level it was not so unexpected for the 125-year-old team from the south coast to pull off this upset. It’s been that kind of a season when the pressure has mounted on Jose Mourinho as Chelsea has gone from winning the Premier League by eight points to losing on Saturday for an eighth time in the 15-game-old title defense. Once Chelsea and Bournemouth were three divisions apart. Now just two points split them in the topflight as they both hover above the relegation zone. Chelsea, four-time Premier League winners in the last decade, is approaching the midway point of the season an alarming 17 points behind surprise leader Leicester, which was itself fighting relegation for much of last season. This wasn’t a subdued Chelsea
performance although waves of attacks were thwarted as goalkeeper Artur Boruc blocked shots from Pedro Rodriguez, Oscar, Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard. But returning striker Diego Costa, a second-half substitute, never caused Boruc any problems. Warrants issued for Guatemala Football Federation president
GUATEMALA CITY — Guatemalan prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for Brayan Jimenez, president of the country’s football federation, who is accused in a widening bribery investigation into FIFA. Public Ministry official Francisco Rivas said Guatemala received a request Thursday from the United States for Jimenez’s apprehension and possible extradition. Rivas says, “It was also requested that articles or objects of value belonging to him be seized.” Jimenez did not make any public
comments on Friday, and his whereabouts were not clear. On Thursday he said he had not yet seen the accusations and intended to consult with his lawyers. The federation announced that Jimenez would be provisionally suspended as president. Guatemalan judge Hector Trujillo, who is charged with racketeering in the case, was arrested Friday aboard a cruise ship at Port Canaveral, Florida. New low for Chelsea as Bournemouth stuns Mourinho’s champs LONDON — Not long ago Chelsea losing to Bournemouth in the Premier League would have been inconceivable. Actually impossible. For much of the 21st century Chelsea has been collecting every major trophy in European football, while Bournemouth has fought to stay in business or avoid dropping out of England’s professionals leagues. No wonder then that Bournemouth’s 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday was acclaimed by manager Eddie Howe as “the best individual result in the club’s history.” Not since 2001 had Chelsea lost to a Premier League newcomer. Yet on another level it was not so unexpected for the 125-year-old team from the south coast to pull off this upset. It’s been that kind of a season when the pressure has mounted on Jose Mourinho as Chelsea has gone from winning the Premier League by eight points to losing on Saturday for an eighth time in the 15-game-old title defense. Once Chelsea and Bournemouth were three divisions apart. Now just two points split them in the topflight as they both hover above the relegation zone. Chelsea, four-time Premier League winners in the last decade, is approaching the midway point of the season an alarming 17 points behind surprise leader Leicester, which was itself fighting relegation for much of last season. Biden makes trip to Ukraine in sign of US support
KIEV, Ukraine — U.S. Vice President Joe Biden comes to Ukraine’s capital on Sunday for a visit aimed at pushing the country toward making reforms and reassuring it that the crisis in Syria is not overshadowing Washington’s concerns about Ukraine. Fighting between Ukrainian forces and Russia-backed separatists has significantly diminished since early September, after killing some 8,000 people since April 2014, but tensions remain high because of unresolved questions about the final political status of the rebel regions in the east. Meanwhile, Western attention has turned largely toward the fight against Islamic extremism in Syria and Iraq. Since Russia began airstrikes in Syria on Sept. 30, Ukrainian officials have worried that their own country’s troubles would fade from view, especially if the West begins
cooperating with Russia to fight the Islamic State group. Biden’s meetings on Monday with President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and a Tuesday speech at the Ukrainian parliament are intended to counter that concern. The trip “is a strong sign of our support,” a senior U.S. administration official said, asking that his name not be used because he was speaking on background. But the official said Biden also will emphasize the need for Ukraine to implement anti-corruption measures. Widespread corruption was

BAKU, Azerbaijan — Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR says the search is still on for 29 workers missing after a fire swept through an offshore oil platform. The workers were on a lifeboat that fell into stormy seas late Friday, and it was unclear if any would be found
alive. One worker has been confirmed dead and 33 were rescued. SOCAR’s first vice president, Khoshbakht Yusifzadem, said the fire on the Caspian Sea platform was still burning Sunday because it had reached one of the oil wells, but should be extinguished by the end of
the day. He said the company was working with Azerbaijan’s emergency services to search for the 29 missing workers by helicopter and ship. The fire broke out Friday when an underwater gas pipeline was damaged in heavy seas. (ap)

UK police say stabbing treated as ‘terrorist incident’
LONDON — A stabbing at a London Underground station is being treated as “terrorist incident,” the London police said Saturday. The London police counterterror command said in a statement that it is investigating the incident at Leytonstone Underground station in east London in which a man was threatening people with a knife at around 7 p.m. (1900 GMT; 2 p.m. EST). One person sustained serious injuries and two other received minor injuries. One person was arrested. Police said a stun gun was used. “We are treating this as a terrorist incident. I would urge the public to remain calm, but alert and vigilant,” said Commander Richard Walton,

The line was partially closed following the collision. Transport accidents are common in Jakarta, where roads are heavily congested and buses and trains are often old and badly maintained. BUSINESS GM to sell China-made vehicle in US first NEW YORK - General Motors says it will sell in the United States next year a vehicle made in China, becoming the first major US automaker to do so. The move was quickly denounced by the powerful UAW auto union, which branded it “a slap in the face” and called for an immediate rethink. GM has sold 127,085 Buick Envision SUVs, made in the eastern province of Shandong, since January in China. The automaker plans to import 30,000 to 40,000 of the vehicles each year, amid high demand for 4X4, crossover and pickup trucks in North America, as oil prices dip. The controversial announcement comes as labor costs are set to rise for GM in the United States following a wage deal currently being finalized. “Today’s announcement by General Motors that they are importing the Envision from China is a slap in the face to US taxpayers and the men and women who worked so hard to save GM during its darkest time,” UAW vice president and director of the General Motors Department, Cindy Estrada, said in a statement. China became GM’s biggest market last year, but a slowdown in the Chinese economy allowed North America to regain its top spot in the first nine months of 2015. WASHINGTON - Global smartphone sales growth will cool to single digits for the first time ever amid a slowdown in China, a new market forecast said Thursday. The research firm IDC said it expects worldwide smartphone shipments to grow 9.8 percent in 2015 to a total of 1.43 billion units. The forecast was updated to reflect slower growth in many Asian markets, Latin America and western Europe. The cooling is expected to continue through 2019, IDC said. One key market in focus is China, which will be hit by an economic slowdown and is largely saturated. “IDC maintains its view that China has largely become a replacement market,” the new forecast report said. The strongest growth will come from the Middle East and Africa, with gains of nearly 50 percent, overtaking other emerging economies such as India and Indonesia. “With the smartphone market finally slowing to single-digit growth, maintaining momentum will depend on several factors,” said IDC analyst Ryan Reith. “The main driver has been and will continue to be the success of low-cost smartphones in emerging markets. This, in turn, will depend on capturing value-oriented first-time smartphone buyers as well as replacement buyers.” In some emerging economies replacement cycles will be less than the typical two-year rate, “mainly because the components that comprise a sub-$100 smartphone simply do not have the ability to survive two years,” Reith said. “Offering products that appeal to both types of buyers at a suitable price point will be crucial to maintaining growth and vendor success.” IDC said Android is likely to remain dominant this year with a market share of 81.2 percent while Apple captures 15.8 percent of the market. The two travelers from Perth, Australia, are Kevin Henry, 32, and his companion, Nathan Robert, 35, while another traveler is from Surabaya, Lula 18. A few moments later, the boat was hit by huge waves as high as 2.5 meters. Lula bounced into the sea. The boat was washed out and lost somewhere. After that, Lula swam to save himself to the FADs. He contacted his friends, Henry and Nathan in the sea that the boat vanished as being swept away by violent waves. They were both told to go up and dock to FADs. Then, they docked and rescued themselves on the FADs owned by a
group of fishermen in the hope there would be fishermen coming to save them. Since they did not come home until that night the hotel staff where he was staying reported the case to SAR Station of Karangasem. A few moments later came the defendant Hendri and Wajid. At that time, they spoke to the witness I.B. Ari Brahmiarta posing as assistant to supervisor at the airport. After that, Wajid returned the smartphone owned by Tao Zang and Jian Dang with the victim. Such incident was then reported to police station. Police authority asked the victim witness and companions of the victim to show the crime scene experienced by the victim at the Ngurah Rai Airport. Due to such incident, the victim suffered material losses worth USD 22,000 and experienced fear and discomfort. Security heightened even as North Korea tries to woo tourists
PYONGYANG — So you’re thinking of taking an exotic vacation, having a little adventure and coming back with lots of stories for your envious friends and colleagues. Believe it or not, North Korea might just be the place for you. But watch what you bring. And what you do. And what you say. While North Korea is making a strong push to increase the number of tourists who visit the country each year — currently a few thousand come from Western countries and more from neighboring China — it is stepping up its enforcement of a broad set of strict but sometimes ambiguously implemented regulations about what foreign visitors can bring with them or what they can do while in the country. North Korea’s push for tourists began in 2013 and visitors can now enjoy a surprisingly broad array of options, from helicopter rides over the capital to surfing on the country’s scenic eastern coast. With winter now setting in, the North is hoping its newly opened luxury ski resort near the city of Wonsan, which was largely empty of tourists last season while Pyongyang closed its borders over Ebola fears, will be a big draw. Even so, the pro-tourism policy, like many other business opportunities that involve dealing with and possibly making concessions to the outside world, poses an obvious conundrum for Pyongyang — the
potential of economic gains that require change, versus concerns about how that might undermine regime security. “Despite the policy of getting more tourists, they still see security, or at least perceptions of security, as a bigger concern, and tourism is pretty far down the list of priorities,” said Simon Cockerell of Beijing-based Koryo Tours, which has specialized in North Korea travel since 1993. “It’s clear that the restrictions, rules and so on often act against increasing tourist numbers.” For those visitors who do break the rules, the risks of detention, arrest and possibly even jail sentences are real enough, especially if the offender is from the United States. The U.S. State Department recently updated and expanded its already blunt warning against North Korean travel. In a nutshell, its advice is simple: Just don’t do it. “While tourism and the flexibility of travel in the DPRK has expanded, there has been a measurable increase in security at the borders,” said Andrea Lee, CEO of
New Jersey-based Uri Tours, which has been organizing tours to the North — officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea — for 15 years. Detentions and arrests, while certain to grab international headlines, are actually quite rare. Most involve extenuating circumstances, such as illegal border crossings or religious or political activities that lead to fairly predictable problems. The vast majority of tourists also visit on carefully orchestrated tours arranged by major agencies that specialize in travel to the North and are well versed in the latest set of dos and don’ts, which they pass on to their clients before anyone boards the flight to Pyongyang. “I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble by accident or by doing something that they genuinely thought would not cause them any trouble,” Cockerell said. “There are rules and laws, of course, that differ from those most visitors are used to, but they are not secret and responsible companies advise their clients in advance what can and can’t be done.” Just how does one toe the line in one of the world’s most authoritarian countries? For many, the first test comes while they are still in the air.

On North Korea’s flagship airline, Air Koryo, cabin attendants sternly scold passengers shooting souvenir photos and delete anything they decide is inappropriate. English-language newspapers are available on most flights, but crumpling them will bring a lecture and possibly require a written apology. Newspapers inevitably feature photos of Kim Jong Un and defacing the leader’s image is a serious crime. Customs can also be a shock. Scrutiny of books is increasing to the point some agencies advise against bringing any at all. At Pyongyang’s new airport, officials recently started to not only turn on laptops but to also at times search whatever is on them extensively. They can and often do, as the most recent State Department warning noted, “inspect USB drives, CDs, DVDs, mobile phones, tablets, laptops, or any other electronic and multimedia devices brought into the country. Internet browsing histories and cookies on travelers’ computers and other electronic devices are subject to search for banned content, including pornography or material critical of the DPRK government.”
Anything pro-South Korea, of course, is a no-no. And heaven forbid taking a Bible. Once inside the country, visitors can expect to have virtually no freedom to roam about unescorted. But they can still land in hot water if they start up conversations with random people on the street, do anything that smacks of politicking or proselytizing, attempt to exchange currency with an unauthorized vendor, take unauthorized photographs, shop at stores not designated for foreigners or in any way show disrespect to the “Great Persons of Mount Paektu” — national founder Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il and the current dictator, Kim Jong Un. And, as the State Department warns, if you take a mobile phone and feel like calling home, “please keep in mind that you have no right to privacy in North Korea and should assume your communications are monitored.” So, is it worth it? Seeing North Korea first-hand can be a great opportunity to learn something about one of the most enigmatic places on the planet. But like the 24 million people who live here, for whom the pleasures of tourism abroad are not an option, you won’t have much freedom to really make the most of it. (ap)

Head of the Klungkung Tourism Office, I Wayan Sujana, said that the district government has attempted to find private investors to help develop the area of Nusa Penida and have a positive impact on local communities. “The beach has become one of Klungkung’s leading destinations. There are already some investors who interested in the area and continue to promote this destination,” he said.

Aside to finding investors, the government of Klungkung has also reprioritize the islands of Klungkung for improvements in 2016. More funds have been allocated to repair Nusa Penida’s severely damaged roads and plans are being made to create a ring road on the island. Klungkung’s Public Works is also seeking funding from the central government for the planning and compensation for the creation of the ring road. Highways Division Head at the Klungkung Public Works, A.A. Gede Lesmana, explained that from the four
subdistricts in Klungkung, Nusa Penida has the most damaged roads. “Among the existing subdistricts, Nusa Penida has the worst roads, so a large portion of the budget is going towards repairing them,” he confirmed. Lesmana also explained that most roads in Nusa Penida are created independently so seldom do they meet technical specification requirements, as a result many roads are now in urgent need of repair. Repairs to existing roads is also meant to support the creation of the ring road that will require about 68 hectares of land. These repairs to infrastructure are expected
to reduce the number of complaints about travelling in the area. Gede Lesmana also revealed that they will be using cold mix asphalt for road construction in Nusa Penida. There have been no significant obstacles in the use of cold mix that was used on some section soy road in 2015. Cold mix asphalt is also easier to transport over sea. “We will continue to use cold mix in 2016,” he stated, adding that this emulsion asphalt material meets the Standards of Indonesia (SNI) - as of 2011 and is often used to fill in potholes. mix asphalt will be used to cover an entire stretch of road. In fact, this road project -worth billions of rupiahs that will be carried out in Nusa Penida is the first of its kind in Indonesia. There are many road paving projects set to take place in Nusa Penida including the ToyapakehSebunibus road section (IDR 2.41 billion), Jungutbatu-Lembongan road section (IDR 7.34 billion) and Toyapakeh-Suana road section (IDR 10.39 billion). Various measures have been undertaken by the marine conservation area (KKP) officers of Nusa Penida, Klungkung, in maintaining and preserving marine biodiversity. Other than making regular patrol around the KKP area, the officers also put up warning signs that essentially invites the public or visitors to take care of the marine environment. Unmitigatedly the warning signs are mounted at 16 different points of tourism area in Nusa Penida. According to Karyawan, the signboard is classified into three contents, namely invitation not to throw rubbish on the beach, coral reef conservation and sunfish as the tourism icon of Nusa Penida. “Essentially, we urge and invite the community to maintain and preserve the coastal areas. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. TUNICA, Mississippi — Morgan Freeman says he was aboard his plane when it had to make an unexpected landing in Mississippi, but nobody was injured. Mayor Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, a longtime friend of the actor, confirms the plane made a controlled
forced landing before dark Saturday. Freeman released a statement saying he was headed to Texas to shoot a segment for the series “The Story of God.” He says, “Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff, which caused other problems.”
He says they “landed safely without a scratch.” He says he can’t say the same about his plane. Luckett says Freeman and the pilot were aboard the flight that originated in Clarksdale, and another plane was en route to Tunica, the landing site, to pick Freeman up. (ap)

On Friday (Dec. 4) at 4:30 p.m. in Paris, the activists of the WALHI or Friends of the Earth (FoE) Indonesia together with the activists of the Friends of the Earth International and the FoE young group took action in the area of the COP 21 Paris to voice the preservation of coastal areas and small islands in Indonesia from the threat of conversion such as through the ongoing massive reclamation projects in Bali.
ALTHOUGH Nusa Penida is know as being a very dry area, marine tourism has become very popular and Penida Beach in Sakti village receives hundreds of visitors a day. The local community however, particularly the supporting devotees of Pura Penida complain that they do not rceeive any benefits from tourism and are requesting that their be a charge for people wanting to visit their area. Penida Beach is located 15 km to the west of the Sampalan Port right in front of Pura Penida. This white sandy beach has become a playground for tourists who come to enjoy the sand and to go snorkelling to marvel at the coral reefs, especially at Cristal Bay. “Every day the beach is thronged by some 100 to 200 visitors,” said I Nyoman Sadar, one of the supporting devotees or pengempon of Pura Panida. However, he complained that despite the large number of tourists, local residents have yet to feel the benefits of tourism. “There are approximately 2000 families that support the temple, but none of us enjoy the impact of the tourist who visit the beach right in from of our temple. PARIS - On Friday Deceber 4th at 4:30 p.m. Paris time, activists from WALHI or Friends of the Earth (FoE) Indonesia, Friends of the Earth International and FoE youth group, took action at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)’s COP 21 (Conference of the Parties) -held in Paris this year, in order to voice the need to protect coastal areas and small islands in Indonesia from the threat of land conversion, such as the ongoing massive reclamation projects in Bali. The activists showed up in response to a speech made by the president of the Republic of Indonesia on the first day of the UNFCCC, in which he said that 60 percent of Indonesians live on coastline and are thus vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
The presence of Friends of the Earth also served as a form of resistance against green washing campaigns being carried out at COP 21 Paris’ Indonesian Pavillion by investors, including the real estate investors that are wanting to reclaim Benoa Bay. During the COP 21 Paris, several
corporations and other businesses were attempting to ‘green wash’ the environmentally destructive actions of their companies, by presenting themselves as caring about the environmental and climate change. The company that is wanting to conduct reclamation in Benoa Bay (Bali) was present at the Indonesian Pavilion, spouting such claims, though several public events. Again, we saw the state facilitating ‘corporate green washing’ by environmental criminals who burn down forests and contribute to the largest noxious emissions in the world. Khalisah Khalid, WALHI’s National Executive, who attended the
event, said that FoE was making a point of rejecting the Benoa Bay reclamation project at the COP 21 in Paris, as a way to remind President Joko Widodo that if the government is aware of the vulnerability of coastal areas as impacted by climate change, then it is high time to create domestic policies that support the preservation of these areas and put a stop to reclamation projects in several Indonesian cities. This includes the reclamation of Benoa Bay that is disguised as revitalization, the reclamation at Palu Bay, Maksassar and also the reclamation of Jakarta Bay. If the speech made by the president at the COP 21 Paris is not ac-
companied by national policy, Khalid fears that the positive image that comes from making commitments in the international arena to environmentally sound practices, will remain nothing more than an image, putting the safety of the people and the environment at stake.
