LOS ANGELES — Keanu Reeves has obtained a temporary restraining order against a woman who was detained after trespassing at the actor’s home last month. The order issued Thursday requires 50-year-old Kerry Colen Raus to stay away from Reeves and his Los Angeles home. Court filings state Raus was taken into custody on Sept. 15 after she was found at Reeves’ home after she had swam in his pool and taken a shower in his house. The filings state Raus has been placed in a psychiatric facility. “The Matrix” star wrote in a sworn declaration that he does not know Raus and he is concerned about his

safety if she is released. A hearing to extend the restraining order is scheduled for Oct. 22. The order was first reported Friday by celebrity website TMZ.

LONDON — It wasn’t a car crash, but there weren’t fireworks, either. Critics writing in Friday’s papers gave a lukewarm welcome to Lindsay Lohan’s professional stage debut, which followed months of hype and speculation about whether the wayward star was up to the job. “Shock news: Lindsay Lohan can act a bit,” wrote Dominic Maxwell in The Times after the opening night of David Mamet’s Hollywood satire “Speed-the Plow.” The Guardian’s Michael Billington called Lohan’s performance “perfectly creditable.” Lohan seemed tentative at times and had to be prompted once on Thursday’s opening night, but she has undeniable charisma, and some reviewers felt her uncertainty suited the character. Billington said the performance “doesn’t mean Lohan is ready to play Hedda Gabler tomorrow ... (but) she holds the stage with ease and doesn’t let the side down.” Lohan plays the pivotal role of Karen, an office temp whose naivety throws the plans of two ambitious producers into chaos. Karen is the counterpoint to insecure Hollywood players Bobby Gould and Charlie Fox, played by “West Wing” star Richard Schiff and British actor Nigel Lindsay. The production’s direc-

tor — yet another Lindsay — is Lindsay Posner. The male characters are classic Mamet creations, macho and manic. NEW YORK — Taylor Swift has plenty of her own hits, and now she’ll be advising young singers on “The Voice” how to do it themselves. The NBC competition show said Friday that the “Shake It Off” singer is serving as a mentor to competitors later this month. She’ll make her first appearance on Oct. 27, giving her some prime-time exposure on the day that her new album is scheduled to be released. On three shows, Swift will advise contestants on vocal technique, stage presence and picking the right songs to fit their strengths. There’s no word on whether Swift will appear after the Nov. 3 show.

DENPASAR - Commander of the IX/Udayana Military Region, Major General Torry Djohar Banguntoro, asserted that Bali was safe from ISIS movement. Nevertheless, the community should remain vigilant against the threat of any radical movement. He conveyed the matter on the sidelines of a national pilgrimage in the Pancaka Tirta Memorial Complex, Tabanan, Friday (Oct 3). “So far, Bali is safe (from ISIS movement). Reclamation plan makes coastal residents of Klungkung restless

SEMARAPURA - Reclamation plan has made the public in the coastal region of Klungkung County restless. They worried about the impact on the coastal areas. As expressed by villagers of Jumpai through a large billboard at local village, they wanted the polemic could be ended, so that people in the coastal area would not be restless. A humanist of Klungkung, Ida Bagus Pidada Kaut, said that the rejection indicated by most people, especially in Klungkung, was the answer and the demand that the plan should be stopped. He was curious that a massive and widespread rejection against the plan already occurred so far but the leaders of Bali seemed to be unmoved. “A million percent, I do not agree to the reclamation. Anyway, when it has been rejected by the majority of Balinese people, just stop it. What is waiting for any longer?” said this mask artist. He added that coastal residents were definitely anxious related to such a plan. In addition, they also showed their attitude so as the reclamation plan could be terminated. Reclamation, according to him, had too many negative impacts on Bali, compared to its positive impacts, ranging from the preservation of nature, culture to the taksu or divine vibration of Bali. HIV/AIDS sufferers in Karangasem rise rapidly

AMLAPURA - Based on the data obtained from the Karangasem Health Agency, the number of people detected to suffer HIV/AIDS in Karangasem increased rapidly. In 2013, it was reported that 313 people were newly detected. But this year, there are additional 50 people so that it totally amounts to 363 people. Lately, an issue spread in Karangasem that two cute girls transmitted HIV/AIDS with an easy way to have sex. Met on Thursday (Oct 2) in his office, the Deputy Regent of Karangasem, I Made Sukerana, said that his party also received information about the two cute girls suspected of deliberately transmitting HIV/ AIDS. “I’ve also heard that information, but I do not want to mention the origin of the village or subdistrict. It is said that police have arrested them, simply ask about it to police department,” he advised. From the information got in the community of the barren village in Abang subdistrict, the two girls already had sex with 20 people, where some of ‘the victims’ still had the status as students. To transmit the HIV, the girls were easily taken to have sexual intercourse. However, they did not allow the male partner to use condoms. Deputy Regent Sukerana doubling as Chairman of the Regional AIDS Mitigation Commission (KPAD) of Karangasem said if the information was true, then it was very much deplored. He asked to be more careful because HIV/AIDS could quickly spread. “If the data of HIV/AIDS

However, the coastal areas spreading in Sukawati subdistrict, Blahbatuh and Gianyar town have big waves and swift currents, so that they are very dangerous for people who are not adept at swimming. Shiwei, 30, who was swept away while swimming on Lebih Beach, Saturday (Aug 16). The Gianyar Lifesaver and Gianyar Marine Police Unit making a search ultimately found the victim on Purnama Beach Sukawati in a lifeless condition. Previously, a civil servant, Luh Putu Anggreni, 22, with her friend Kadek Purnayasa, 22, as well as a minor named Kadek Noviani, 13, were also swept away while swimming on the Gumicik Beach, Ketewel village, Sukawati, Gianyar, Sunday (May11) around 3:30 p.m.

Kadek Noviani could be rescued, but several hours later Luh Putu Anggreni, 22, was found in a lifeless condition. The next day around 05:00 a.m. Kadek Purnayasa was also found dead. Chief of Gianyar Marine Police Unit, Ketut Manis, said that Gianyar had coastal areas along 15.94 km consisting of four beaches in Sukawati subdistrict, four beaches in Blahbatuh subdistrict and three other beaches in Gianyar subdistrict. “Along the beach of Gianyar has averagely strong currents and

big waves, so that all the swimmers must be alert,” he said. He explained that it happened due to the condition of shoreline along the Gianyar region that did not have a cape and bay. As a result, the sea currents were very strong. Even, on full moon the wave height could reach an average of five to six meters. “The most severe condition happens on full moon. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

PARIS - A much-anticipated facelift of the Eiffel Tower will be unveiled Monday with a new glass floor to dizzy the millions of tourists who flock to Paris’s best-known landmark every year. Its owners hope the formerly dowdy and draughty first floor will become as big an attraction as the viewing platform on top of the 325-metre (1,070-foot) tower -- the most visited paying monument in the world. Visitors will be able to look down through a solid glass floor to the 57 square metres below, with transparent and eco-friendly pavilions built around the tower’s enormous central void. To heighten the frisson of walking on air still further, the glass safety barriers around the edge have been inclined outwards. Previously the first floor was the least visited part of the tower, but its operators hope tourists will now linger at the end of their visit behind sheltering floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Paris. The 30-million euro ($37.5million) refit, which took two years, includes shops, restaurants and a

museum where the history of the 125-year-old tower will be told on seven screens. The city of Paris, which holds a majority stake in the monument, charged architects Moatti-Riviere with creating a space that would show off Gustave Eiffel’s impressive original ironwork and make it fully accessible for disabled visitors. The new buildings will also produce part of their own energy using windmills and solar panels, and the toilets will be run partly on rainwater. “We wanted to set an example,” said Jean-Bernard Bros, the president of SETE, the operator of the

tower, which had a turnover of 73 millions euros ($91 million) in 2013. The “Iron Lady” attracts around seven million visitors a year, of which 85 percent are foreign tourists. Most visitors, however, come from France (12.5 percent) followed by Americans (8.5 percent), Britons (7.1 percent), Italians (6.7 percent) and Germans (5.7 percent). The renovation of the first floor may be now complete but work on the enormous structure built for the World’s Fair of 1889 never ends. The tower has to be repainted every seven years, a job that requires 60 tons of paint.

DENPASAR - More and more foreigners get involved in drug cases in Bali. Some serve as smugglers and traffickers, while some others serve as users. On Thursday (Oct 2), the officers of the Denpasar Police Narcotics Unit dragged a French citizen, the suspect Rayan Jawad Henri Bitar, 24, to the Denpasar Prosecutors’ Office. The man born on November 5, 1990 underwent the second handover since he was alleged to get involved in the illicit drug case of cocaine. When encountered in the lobby of the Prosecutors’ Office, Wayan Wiradarma, Assistant to General Crime of the Denpasar Prosecutors’ Office, confirmed the existence of the second handover involving the foreign citizen. Meanwhile, in the case file with the suspect Rayan Jawad Henri Bitar was stated that the suspect was arrested by police on Wednesday (Aug 13) around 11:00 p.m. in front of Mahesa Futsal on Jalan Teuku Umar Barat, Tegal Lantang Kaja hamlet, Padangsambian, Denpasar. At that time, police got information if there was foreigner alleged to get in contact with drugs. Police then did a search and found three plastic clips where each of which contained a white powder of cocaine weighing 3.14 grams. In this case, police also seized evidence such as a matchbox containing plastic clip where it contained cocaine with a net weight of 1.03 grams, a plastic clip containing cocaine with a net weight of 1.07 grams, another plastic clip containing cocaine with a net weight of 1.04 grams, a bong and a unit of silver Mazda vehicle with license plate DK 991 FB. With the case, the foreigner living on Jalan Umalas II, Kerobokan, Badung, was charged with Article 112 paragraph 1 and Article 127 paragraph 1 letter a of the Law No.35/2009 on narcotics. Under article 112, the suspect born in 1990 would be charged with a minimum sentence of four years and a maximum of 12 years. Meanwhile, based on the monitoring at the Denpasar Prosecutors’ Office, one of the prosecutors appointed, namely Deny Iswanto, was seen to look around the file and made a brief examination. After that, the defendant was taken out of the detention cell and directed to a room for signing the minutes. A few minutes after the signature, the suspect was put again into the detention cell of the prosecutor. (kmb37)

TABANAN - Evidently, aside from dogs, other animals found to have been infected by rabies in Tabanan were cows and pigs. It was presented by the Head of Tabanan Livestock Agency, Ni Ketut Warsiki. According to her, the cow and pig were positive because they were previously bitten by a wild dog of rabies positive. She further added that the rabies infected cow and pigs had the same symptoms as found in dogs, namely anxiety and sudden fierce. But according to Warsiki, both animals did not transmit rabies because they did not bite like a dog. So far, there were two cows positively tested to rabies. “Actually five pigs have been bitten by the dog of positive rabies. However, only two pigs showed the symptoms. Meanwhile, the owner allowed the elimination of the three other pigs,” said Warsiki. In the meantime, she added, the rabies positive dogs throughout 2014 were found in five locations, namely Apuan, Sekar Taji, Dangin Carik, Jadi and Pangkung. Surely the findings were deplored because, according Warsiki, there were no rabies positive cases in dogs in Tabanan in 2013. Her party had handled it with mass vaccination by targeting 40,000 dogs and it had completed. However, it was feared the newly born dog without being covered in vaccine had the potential to be infected by rabies and transmitted it to other dogs. She admitted, other than vaccination, the elimination measure was also taken when considered necessary, especially in the area where positive case was found. When doing the elimination, it was always coordinated with community leaders and local residents.

The difficulty faced when eliminating stray dogs was that residents claimed to own the dogs so that the officers could not eliminate them. “If the dogs bite and are declared positive, they are claimed as stray dogs and none owns the dogs. It is the dilemma faced by the officers in the field,” said Warsiki. In handling rabies, according to Warsiki, the role of community was highly required, chiefly the in the

matter of proper technique of raising dog and they never let their dogs go wild. “Nowadays, most people let their dog roam around especially in rural areas,” she said. People’s awareness was expected to vaccinate their dogs on a regular basis. In the field, people were reluctant to vaccinate their dog on their own awareness although the vaccines were available for free. It became its own concerns. Moreover, the vaccine would no longer be borne entirely by central government. “In 2015, the vaccine will not be fully covered. IGUALA, Mexico — Security forces investigating the role of municipal police in clashes in this southern city a week ago found a mass grave on the edge of town, raising fears the pits might hold 43 students missing since the violence that also resulted in six shooting deaths. Guerrero State Prosecutor Inaky Blanco did not say Saturday night how many bodies were in the burial pits uncovered on a hillside on Iguala’s outskirts, and he declined to speculate about whether the dead were the missing students. “It would be irresponsible” to jump to conclusions before tests to identify the bodies, Blanco said. Officials said the federal Attorney General’s Office and the National Human Rights Commission had sent teams of experts to aid state authorities in identifying the remains. Guerrero Gov. Associated Press WASHINGTON — A surge in hiring last month helped drive the nation’s unemployment rate down to a six-year low of 5.9 percent — within striking distance of what economists consider a healthy level. The encouraging numbers — contained in the last government report on unemployment before the midterm elections — pushed the Dow Jones average up 209 points to 17,010 and could give an important boost at the polls to Democrats and to incumbents in general. U.S. employers added a robust 248,000 jobs in September and generated 69,000 more jobs in July and August than previously reported, the government said Friday. That helped bring unemployment down from 6.1 percent in August. The jobless rate now stands at the lowest level since July 2008, in the middle of the Great Recession, and is getting close to the roughly 5.5 percent that the Federal Reserve considers consistent with a healthy economy. In a speech in Princeton, Indiana, President Barack Obama exulted over the numbers, noting that businesses have added jobs for 55 months in a row, the longest such stretch on record. He credited “the drive and determination of the American people,” and added: “It’s also got a little bit to do with some decisions we made pretty early on in my administration.” Nevertheless, other gauges of the job market still bear scars from the recession. Wages aren’t rising. And the number of people out of a job for more than six months or stuck in part-time jobs when they want full-time ones remains elevated. An Associated Press-GfK poll found that the economy is the top issue in voters’ minds as the Nov. 4 elections near, and while most signs point toward improvement, 62 percent of likely voters still consider the economy “poor,” little changed from two years earlier. Given the latest conditions, the Fed may not move up its timetable for raising interest rates to control inflation, economists say. Most expect the Fed won’t act until the middle of next year. Friday’s data “are generally consistent with the Fed’s economic forecasts and therefore should not change their thinking,” Doug Handler, an economist at IHS Global Insight, said in a note to clients. The Fed has kept its benchmark interest rate near zero for almost six years in an effort to encourage more borrowing, spending and growth. When the Fed begins raising the rate, the effects will ripple throughout the economy and could have a profound impact on businesses and consumers. Rates for mortgages, auto loans and credit cards will probably rise. Businesses may cut back on borrowing. And stock markets frequently drop when rates rise. Lower unemployment usually forces up wages as employers bid for a dwindling supply of job-hunters. Higher paychecks can also push up prices. Some Fed policymakers have already warned that unemployment is low enough to spur higher inflation. But Fed Chair Janet Yellen has said the unemployment rate may exaggerate the strength of the job market. For example, there were 7.1 million people working part-time jobs last month even though they want full-time work. That figure is up from just 4.6 million before the recession. And among the 9.3 million unemployed, 3 million have been out of work for more than six months. That figure has declined in the past three years but is still more than twice its precession level. Another example: The share of adults working or looking for work fell to just under 63 percent last month, the lowest level in 36 years. That’s down from 66 percent before the recession.

WASHINGTON — The head of the International Monetary Fund says that six years after the financial crisis, the world is still mired in a disappointing economic recovery and will only be able to regain momentum through improved government policies. IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said that the world has experienced a sub-par recovery that is “brittle, uneven and beset by risks.” Those risks include potential escalation of the strife in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as the Ebola outbreak in Africa. Policymakers must pursue reforms to break out of a prolonged period of mediocre growth, Lagarde said in a speech at Georgetown University to preview next week’s meetings of the 188-nation IMF and its sister lending agency, the World Bank. She called for reforms of labor markets and increased spending on infrastructure. “There is a recovery, but as we all know ... the level of growth and jobs is simply not good enough,” Lagarde

said. “The world needs to aim higher and try harder.” She said a mix of bolder policies were needed to make sure that the “new mediocre” doesn’t become permanent. In addition to the IMF and the World Bank, finance ministers and central bank presidents of the Group of 20 nations will hold discussions on Oct. 10. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen will represent the United States. Lagarde said that public investment in infrastructure was also critically important, citing one estimate that $6 trillion would be needed globally for electricity grids, roads and other infrastructure over the next 15 years. “There is an obvious imperative in many countries where bottlenecks and obstacles to transportation and energy supply abound and hamper development,” she said. Lagarde praised a commitment made by the G-20 finance officials meeting last month in Australia to pursue strategies to lift economic growth by a collective 2 percent or $2 trillion over the next five years.

Such condition was admitted by Jro Mangku Griya Sakti Manuaba, the elder and artisan of headband from Purwakerta, Gerih village, Abiansemal subdistrict. He started his career as a headband craftsman in 1983. He claimed to be apprehensive with the attitude of current young generation who began to pay less attention to Balinese customs and culture. According to him, younger generation was not much interested in becoming a headband artisan whereas it was a quite favorite side job, especially at his village. “Younger generation lacks for interest. They prefer to work in tourism industry whereas it was formerly widely favored. They make it a side job,” said Jro Mangku

Unluckily, it has inferior quality. For example, they use minimal materials to make it more efficient. Balinese people believe in the taksu, so that they pay careful attention in the making process so as the quality is good. Meanwhile, the products made by the outsiders are usually intended to only have the form of headband,” he said. The profession of becoming a headband maker was actually quite promising. Jro Mangku mentioned that with 10 workers, the Bali Suci headband craftsmen group could produce maximally 100 sheets per day. Large crowds of protesters scuffled with police overnight in the blue-collar Mong Kok district in Kowloon, a flashpoint that has seen violent clashes between pro-democracy student protesters and their antagonists over the weekend. Tens of thousands of people, many of them students, have poured into the city’s streets in the past week to peacefully protest China’s restrictions on the election for the city’s top leader. But as the standoff between the protesters and the government entered its eighth day, tempers flared and patience was waning among residents who oppose the occupation of the streets and the disruption it brings. Police said they had to disperse the crowds with force early Sunday because they provoked officers with verbal abuse, while the students accuse police of failing to protect them from attacks by mobs intent on driving them away. The students claim that police had allied with criminal gangs to clear them, but the government has vehemently

denied it. The city’s top leader, Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, appeared on television Saturday evening to once again urge everyone to go home, saying key roads paralyzed by protesters need to return to normal by Monday. “The government and the police have the duty and determination to take all necessary actions to restore social order so the government and the 7 million people of Hong Kong can return to their normal work and life,” Leung said. Beijing has promised that the city can have universal suffrage by 2017, but it says a committee of mostly pro-Beijing figures must screen candidates for the top job. Having lost out to Rosberg in an all-silver battle for pole in the dry on Saturday, Hamilton turned the tables in the wet Suzuka weather of Sunday with a brilliant round-the-outside passing move on his bitter F1 title rival. Rosberg led for the first 28 laps of a race that began behind the safety car, thanks to appalling conditions. When the race got going properly after nine laps behind the safety car - interrupted by a red flag following the first two because of rain - the German held a small advantage over his British team-mate as the two Mercedes streaked clear in the spray. Rosberg looked comfortable on extreme wet weather tyres, but complained of oversteer after switching to intermediate tyres when circuit conditions improved. He held Hamilton off until lap 29 when, having suffered a twitch accelerating onto the start-finish straight at the end of the previous lap, he lost enough momentum to allow Hamilton to attack. Rosberg went defensive, but Hamilton (assisted by extra speed from the Drag Reduction System) swept around the outside of his team-mate to take the lead through Turn 1. Once released from following Rosberg’s gearbox, Hamilton pulled away to take his third consecutive grand prix victory in a race that was red-flagged for a second time under the safety car, after Jules Bianchi’s Marussia went off at Turn 7 where marshals were craning away Adrian Sutil’s Sauber following an earlier crash. Red Bull deliberately compromised its dry qualifying pace by setting the RB10 up for the wet, and its drivers used this to good effect to finish third and fourth. BIRMINGHAM, England - Do not criticise Yaya Toure, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini had warned, and everyone could see why he had jumped to the midfielder’s defence as some familiar magic ignited their 2-0 Premier League win at Aston Villa on Saturday. Ultimately, City ran out seemingly comfortable winners thanks to Sergio Aguero’s cracking clincher in the 88th minute but it was Toure’s glorious loping intervention eight minutes from time which really eased their path. The Ivorian struck just when the visitors seemed to have run out of ideas and luck against stubborn Villa resistance. City were growing frustrated. Twice they hit the woodwork through Aleksandar Kolarov and Aguero and, as Villa eventually decided the only strategy was to throw 10 men behind the ball to hold back the blue tide, the feeling grew that it was not going to be their day as the champions rattled up shot number 25. Toure had been ineffective

again, not looking completely fit and a mere shadow of the battleship which went sailing carefree through opponents last season, but Pellegrini had been particularly supportive of him in his pre-match suggestions that people should get off the mercurial midfielder’s back. Superb Delivery

Freed from worry, Aguero, who along with Edin Dzeko had

not been at his best, then buried his celebratory second, thanks to the superb delivery of the tireless James Milner. It was, felt Pellegrini, just reward for what he described as City’s best performance of the season and he hoped it would be the launching pad for Toure to show his best form again. But it was hard not to feel some sympathy for Villa, whose sterling defence, headed by their doughty centre backs Nathan Baker and Senderos, had offered such marvellous resistance for a side being largely outplayed. “I don’t know whether it’s exactly relief. I think we deserved to win, we had a lot of chances to score,” said Pellegrini. “I think we played the best game of the season, completely, in possession, in chances to score, in the way we defend and the way we recover the ball.” Villa, who left out Gabriel Agbonlahor in the warm-up after he complained of illness, at least welcomed back their key striker Christian Benteke, who was brought on for the last half an hour after six months out with an Achilles injury as they showed enough ambition to try to win the game.
