NEW YORK - Demi Lovato’s best-known songs include “Sorry Not Sorry.” But when it comes to sharing details of a sexual joke on her bodyguard, she is sorry -- mostly. The pop singer triggered a flurry of negative reactions over the weekend when, in a largely innocuous exchange with fans on Twitter, she was asked to name the funniest prank she has ever pulled off. Lovato said that she hired a sex worker to enter the hotel room of her bodyguard when they were staying in Las Vegas, where prostitution is legal. “She walked into his room without permission and grabbed him in his ‘area’ and he freaked,” Lovato said, sharing her amusement. A number of Twitter users took Lovato to task, saying that she was admitting to a serious episode of sexual harassment, an issue that has drawn growing attention amid the rise of the #MeToo movement. Lovato deleted the post and quipped: “I swear I could tweet something about craving jelly beans and it would offend someone.” But she also urged upset people to revisit her song “Warrior” in which she speaks of being a survivor of sexual abuse. “Maybe you’ll have more compassion for a simple mistake,” she wrote, while adding: “So sorry if anyone was offended.” (afp)

Rare dinosaur skeleton sells for two million euros
PARIS - The skeleton of an extremely rare form of dinosaur sold for more than two million euros ($2.3 million) at the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Monday. The bones of what scientists believe to be “probably a new species” of the carnivorous allosaurus were discovered during a dig in Wyoming in the United States in 2013. The 150-million-year-old skeleton, which is 70 percent intact, was snapped up by an unnamed French art collector, who promised that the specimen will be lent out to a museum. The buyer “wants it to be on display in a French museum,” auctioneer Claude Aguttes told AFP. The dinosaur, which is more than nine metres (30 feet) long
and 2.6 metres high, lived during the late Jurassic period, said Eric Mickeler who works for the Aguttes auction house. He said it was the “only one of its species” to have yet been discovered. Dinosaur expert Eric Geneste had earlier told AFP it was impossible to “classify the skeleton yet as a allosaurus” because it was more robust, “with longer shoulder blades and a different number of teeth”. “In fact there are as many differences between it and an allosaurus as between a human and a gorilla,”
he added. Japanese and Swedish telephone bidders also tried to buy the dinosaur, pushing the bidding above the 1.8 million euro estimate. The same French auction house sold an allosaurus called “Kan” for 1.1 million euros in 2016. Mickeler said that “herbivores do not quite excite businessmen who buy dinosaurs the same way as carnivores do. They want to buy carnivores like themselves.” Part of the proceeds of the sale of the skeleton by a British collector will go to towards funding further archaeological digs. (afp)

The blanket of trash on a creek that flows between the makeshift homes of a Manila slum is so dense it appears one could walk across it like a paved street. However, the thick and fetid mosaic of plastic bottles, takeaway containers and plastic bags is just a porous layer atop the filthy water of Estero de Magdalena. It is one of the tributaries that run into Manila’s most important and heavily polluted waterways, the Pasig River. City officials blame the slum’s residents for using the creek as an open-air dump and have installed massive strainers in the water that keeps the trash from flowing downstream.
“They (residents) are turning the creeks into a trash can,” said Lorenzo Alconera, an official with the city engineering department. “We want to block it at that point so we can easily collect the garbage. We do not want it to flow into the Pasig River,” he added. Trash that makes it into the river can then be swept out into the South China
Sea or be sucked back by tides into the Laguna de Bay, the country’s largest lake. Plastic pollution is a major problem in the Philippines, which along with China, Vietnam and Indonesia is frequently listed among the world’s worst offenders. The city says it periodically uses heavy equipment to scoop the rub-
bish from the water and ends up with five to 10 truck loads of waste to haul away. That is of little consolation to the impoverished families who live in homes cobbled together from pallets, scraps of wood and corrugated steel stained with rust. Authorities say the trash-choked creek is a breeding ground for preventable illnesses like cholera and typhoid fever. Beyond concerns over the infections that thrive in the waterway, residents also have to deal with a constant and unavoidable concern:

For homecoming traffic, Tabanan Police alert 250 personnel Supported by 18 security posts
TABANAN —As usual, the homecoming traffic of the Eid Al Fitr has been visible a week earlier. Police authority has started to prepare for security. Tabanan Police have mobilized 250 personnel, with the preparation of 18 posts ranging from integrated service posts, security to services. It also includes the mapping of the jam-prone and accident-prone road sections.

Related to the post preparation, four units of fixed post have been prepared at Dadakan post, intersection of Tabanan University, Kediri traffic light, Kediri subdistrict and Gerokgak traffic light post. As for the security post, there are nine points namely at Al Huda Kediri Mosque, Lumajang post in Kerambitan subdistrict, Bu-
nut Puhun post in East Selemadeg, Berembeng and Antosari post (Selemadeg), Joger post (Baturiti), Alas Kedaton post (Marga) and post at An Nur Mosque (Penebel). “On average, there are six police officers on guard at the post,” he explained. Other than security post, there are four post stations in TAC Megati post (East Selemadeg), Adipura statue post (Tabanan), Corn Statue post (Baturiti), and Tanah Lot post in Kediri sub-district. And lastly, there is an integrated service post located in Soka Indah or restaurant area of Soka Beach in West Selemadeg. The service particularly in the integrated service post involves all institutions in Tabanan district according to police coordination with
the local government. There are free health services, free workshops, free massages and distribution of free fasting break snacks. “We also involve the elements of health, fire brigade, military personnel, transportation agency, crane officers and municipal police. So, there are other agencies on duty at the integrated service post,” he explained. So far, these posts are still under construction, and they are targeted to be completed on June 6. “The posts have been established from June 1 and should have been finalized on June 6,” he explained. SEMARAPURA —The election of Klungkung regent and Bali governor has been around the corner. The Electoral Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) of Klungkung has mapped the potential for fraud. Of the four sub-districts, Nusa Penida is the most vulnerable. Chairman of Panwaslu Klungkung, I Komang Artawan, revealed the mapping is based on experience in the previous regional leader election and the result of monitoring by Field Electoral Supervisor (PPL). “But the potential is not too high. It remains in alert level. Based on the past experience, the incident is one hundred percent of the same puncture,” he said on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 350 poll superintendents (PTPS) at Puri Denbencingah, Akah village, Klungkung, on Monday (Jun. 4). In response to that, his committee has attempted prevention since the election stage began. This is further maximized by driving the PTPS. “Totally, there are 350 polls, especially in Nusa Penida, there are 107,” he said. However, other sub-districts, namely Klungkung, Banjarangkan and Dawan do not escape from supervision. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Electoral Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) of Bali, I Ketut Rudia, said the fraud on the five-year political event has the potential to occur in the distribution of logistics. This became the
focus of his supervision. “PTPS in cooperation with the PPL does inherent supervision, including in the distribution of ballot boxes to villages,” he said. Australian Consulate-General’s Waste to Wealth initiative holds workshops at ISI Denpasar and Udayana University Following the successful launch of the Australian Consulate-General’s (ACG) Waste to Wealth initiative on Saturday (2/6) with a beach clean-up, the ACG today continued its program with two workshops held at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, and Udayana University. Waste to Wealth is a week-long initiative organized by the ACG that aims to promote environmentally sustainable tourism practices in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara. A full-day collaborative workshop entitled ‘Waste as Art’ was held by internationally renowned Australian environmental artist Dr John Dahlsen, together with 30 students from ISI Denpasar’s Faculty of Arts and Design. Dr Dahlsen and
the students collaborated to create art installations with waste found on the beaches of Bali. Dr Dahlsen told students that his work as an environmental artist began by accident, when he started collecting plastic from beaches in Australia in the mid-90s. “While my art has changed and evolved over time, my underlying commitment to increasing awareness of environmental concerns has never wavered,” said Dr Dahlsen. At Udayana University’s #AussieBanget Corner, Australian environmental science educator Ms Louise Hardman, and academic chair of Murdoch University’s environmental engineering program, Dr Martin Anda, presented a workshop entitled Being Aware of Our
Environment. Approximately 40 students and academics were present. Ms Hardman’s key message was ‘Plastic waste is polluting our oceans, which we all share, so we need to find solutions to change it into something that has value and when something has value, it no longer become rubbish’. She also outlined her education program, which focused on transforming waste into valuable items with her purpose-built mobile plasticrecycling machine. In his presentation, Dr Martin Anda talked about engineering solutions to environmental problems and the importance of education in managing environmental challenges. Dr Anda also visited Undiknas University Bali, and provided an
open lecture to around 100 students from the faculties of business and economics. Dr Anda encouraged future education cooperation and collaboration between Australia and Indonesia, including in the engineering and environmental science sectors. Australian Consul-General Dr Helena Studdert appreciated the collaboration with local education institutions in running the workshops as part of the Waste to Wealth initiative. “Environmental issues are very much interconnected with education and we hope by bringing these educators to the universities, we can help increase students awareness and skills to make informed decisions and actions regarding to our environment”, said

WASHINGTON - SpaceX will not send tourists around the Moon this year as previously announced, and will delay the project until the middle of next year, US media reported on Monday. “A new timetable for the flight -- now postponed until at least mid2019 and likely longer -- hasn’t been released” by the California-based company, said the report in The Wall Street Journal. The reason for the delay is unclear. But it is a “sign that technical and production challenges are disrupting founder Elon Musk’s plans for human exploration of the solar
system,” said the report. “SpaceX also is confronting industry doubts about market demand for its Falcon Heavy rocket,” it said. The tourists would ride aboard a Dragon capsule, hoisted into space on SpaceX’s most powerful rocket to date, the Falcon Heavy, which made its first test flight only four months ago. SpaceX spokesman James Glee-
son said, in an emailed statement to AFP, that the company “is still planning to fly private individuals around the moon and there is growing interest from many customers.” SpaceX has not publicly released any new timeline for the mission, first announced in February 2017. At the time, Musk said on Twitter the moon tourist mission was slated to happen “late next year,” referring
to 2018. Two private citizens, who have not been named, “have already paid a significant deposit,” Musk added. The trip would mark the farthest humans have ever traveled to deep space. The United States has not sent astronauts to the Moon since NASA’s Apollo missions of the 1960s and ‘70s. SpaceX is also planning to send astronauts to the International Space Station later this year, marking the
first time since the US space shuttle program ended in 2011 that people have blasted to space from US soil. SpaceX has told NASA it is targeting the first astronaut test flight no earlier than December 2018. Some observers, however, say the schedule could slip to 2019. “Once operational Crew Dragon missions are under way for NASA, SpaceX will launch the private mission on a journey to circumnavigate the Moon and return to Earth,” SpaceX said in a statement. A total of 305,057 new cars hit German roads last month, the KBA federal vehicle licensing authority said, a drop of 5.8 percent year-onyear. Of those, just 95,000 cars were diesels, a number more than 27 percent lower than a year before. Diesel’s ongoing slide came as Hamburg became the first German city last month to ban older diesels
from two stretches of road to combat air pollution, with other cities mulling similar restrictions. Diesel’s reputation has lain in tatters ever since Volkswagen admitted in 2015 to installing software in millions of diesel vehicles worldwide designed to dupe emissions tests. Since then, concerns about pollution and the falling resale value of diesels have seen consumers turn away from the once popular technology. Whereas diesels still accounted for around 45 percent of all car sales in 2016, that share fell to 38 percent in 2017 and the decline has continued into 2018.
But industry bodies said the car sector remained in good health, pointing out that overall car sales from January to May were up 2.6 percent compared with the same period a year earlier. The VDIK foreign carmakers’ association said in a statement that May’s dip in registrations was partly down to a string of public holidays that kept dealerships closed. “The German passenger car market continues to be in solid shape, even though public holidays and long weekends have somewhat slowed down the momentum,” said VDIK president Reinhard Zirpel.(afp)

However, the government, mainly central government, apparently persists on boosting the visit of Chinese tourists to Indonesia. The government believes that Chinese tourist market has large potential because there are 118 million Chinese tourists traveling overseas in 2015 and 133 million in 2017. This market will be seized by Indonesia because the China’s economy is believed to continuously grow.
But having run for few years, business operators in Bali get the experience of handling Chinese tourists. Although the visit increases, they leave behind many troubles. Switch to e-cars will cost Germany 75,000 jobs: study The growing use of electrified vehicles is expected to cost Germany’s crucial car sector some 75,000 jobs by 2030, a study found Tuesday, with smaller auto parts suppliers set to be worst hit. The IG Metall union, which commissioned the study along with BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler and a string of car parts makers, said the pivot towards cleaner engines posed a “major challenge” to Germany’s biggest industry, which employs more than 800,000 people. Electric engines are simpler to build and require far fewer parts than petrol- or diesel-fuelled cars. According to the study, carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute, the shift will eliminate 100,000 of the 210,000 jobs in drivetrain manufacturing by 2030, while around 25,000 new roles will be
created linked to batteries and other specific requirements for electric cars. The figures were calculated on the assumption that by then, 25 percent of all cars on Germany’s roads will be fully electric, while another 15 percent will be hybrids, which combine an electric motor with a traditional internal combustion engine. Today, these cars account for less than two percent of the market. IG Metall chief Joerg Hofmann said the government and company bosses needed to take urgent action to prepare the industry for the upheaval, including through retraining schemes. But he also warned that not everyone would survive the electric revolution. “There will be suppliers who won’t be able to adapt
their business model, especially among small- and medium-sized companies,” Hofmann told reporters in Frankfurt. Whereas it takes some 4,000 workers to assemble a million gasoline-powered engines per year, just 1,840 are needed to build the same number of electric motors, the study said. Volkswagen’s staff representative Bernd Osterloh told reporters that the car giant would respond to the changes by phasing out jobs through retirement schemes and “using the opportunities presented by the transformation”. Despite being home to some of the world’s biggest and best known carmakers, Germany’s auto industry was slow to focus its attention on the greener, smarter vehicles of the future -- allowing newcomers like Tesla to take the lead.
But German firms have stepped up their efforts in the wake of Volkswagen’s 2015 “dieselgate” emissions cheating scandal, which

This activity was carried out for 3 – 4 hours. They looked so happy to enjoy all the activities. For example, fishing activities was carried out from looking for bait (worm) by digging soil. Similarly, in the plowing activities, they were directly involved in taking the cows from the cage. Meanwhile, for cooking activities, they did from twisting
satay batter and looking for vegetables to be cooked. Ultimately, the tour was closed with having meals together. These kids were very impressed with the plowing game. Sitting down on a cow-pulled plough is just like a luxury car ride. They often asked for additional rides, so it could go round the paddy field twice. They learn the process from finding ingredients, cooking and eating together,” said I Gusti Nyoman Suastawa, a member of Pokdarwis of Bindu village. Since the participants are children, Suastawa explained the trekking distance only covered about 500 meters. However, during the trip they can see the rice fields, camping tents, and various types of paddies. It also happens to the path and other activities because this only serves as an introduction. “We hope other schools can come here to learn about nature. Here we offer very complete activities,” he said. Suasrawa said that Bindu Village Retreat has the concept of a
package where guests can enjoy a variety of cultural activities directly. With a stay of seven days at people’s homes, they will get the program to enjoy various attractions of this Bindu Village Retreat. “During their stay at Bindu Village, tourists always do activities related to culture in person,” he said. Jordan PM resigns after anti-austerity protests
AMMAN - Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki resigned on Monday after a wave of antiausterity protests by citizens suffering from high unemployment and repeated prices hikes. Mulki was summoned by King Abdullah II after the capital Amman and several other cities were rocked by demonstrations that drew thousands of people. “Prime Minister Hani Mulki submitted his resignation to the king this afternoon during a meeting at the Husseiniyeh Palace and the king accepted the resignation,” a government source told AFP. The king asked Education Minister Omar al-Razzaz to form a new government, the source added. Jordan, a key US ally, has largely avoided the unrest witnessed by other countries in the region since the Arab Spring revolts broke out in 2011, although protests did flare late that year after the government cut fuel subsidies. A mostly desert kingdom with few resources, the country has seen prices of several basic goods and services like bread, fuel and electricity steadily rise over the past year. The rallying cries by demonstrators for Mulki to step down came after the government adopted a draft income tax law
and announced new price hikes based on recommendations by the International Monetary Fund. Protesters had vowed not to “kneel” and earned support from trade unions as well as a majority of MPs opposed to the new tax. The premier’s meeting with the king came hours after around 5,000 people gathered outside Mulki’s office in Amman, on the fifth consecutive day of protests. James Dorsey, a Middle East analyst, warned that “cosmetic changes” like the prime minister’s removal may not be enough to satisfy protesters. On Saturday Mulki -- who had formed his government in May 2016 -- met with trade union representatives who demanded the income tax law be revoked, but they failed to reach an agreement. There was no immediate reaction to Mulki’s resignation from any of the 16 trade unions backing the protests. “The tax bill will continue to hound the new government, whatever its policy, until the law is thrown out,” said Jordanian political analyst Adel Mahmoud. “The new prime minister will face a number of strategic factors in dealing with the unprecedented street protests, the most important of which is to... open convincing channels of dialogue,” he told AFP. A statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Budapest received by Antara here on Tuesday mentioned that the appreciation and gratitude was delivered by Minister Novak through a letter to Ambassador Wening. TOKYO - Japan’s Akiyo Noguchi began climbing as a tearaway tot clambering onto the backs of cows for kicks on the family farm -- now she’s targeting Olympic gold. The 29-year-old put down an early marker for the 2020 Tokyo Games, when sport climbing makes its Olympic debut, by capturing her third straight World Cup bouldering title last weekend. But it could all have been so different for the world number one, whose decision to quit her university studies and become a professional climber provoked an angry reaction from her mother. “It was 10 years ago and climbing wasn’t in the Olympics, it was still a minor sport,” Noguchi told AFP in an interview. “When I told my parents I was dropping out of college to turn pro, they were extremely worried -- and my mum was dead against it. “But my dad has supported my climbing since I was a kid and built a wall for me in the corner of the farm,” added the adrenalin junkie, who has 21 World Cup bouldering titles to her name. “He insisted I do what makes me happy. But my mum knows now how much I love climbing and has seen how much effort I put into competing so all the family is behind me now.” Noguchi admits she was a handful for her parents with her tomboy antics growing up in Ibaraki prefecture, northeast of Tokyo. “My dad was a farmer and we grew up surrounded by animals,” she said. “I loved climbing on the cows, climbing up trees, climbing onto the roof of the cow shed to play as a kid. “When I was 11 we went on a

I loved overcoming obstacles, that sense of achievement -- I was hooked. “Obviously you need physical strength and power, but climbing is also about the thought process, ingenuity and really just going for it. Willing yourself to go higher -- that’s part of the fun.” The Olympic format will combine three types of climbing techniques: speed, lead and bouldering, with the highest cumulative score deciding the winner. Speed emphasises a climber’s pace, while lead climbing involves the athlete clipping into hooks along the face of the wall with the help of a teammate belaying below. Bouldering sees athletes clamber up smaller rocks and faces without a rope, a deceptively challenging form of climbing that can involve dramatic leaps and impressive feats of strength. Noguchi is looking to improve her lead and speed climbing techniques, beginning at the world championships in Innsbruck this September, which will feature all three disciplines. Karius suffered concussion in Champions League final - doctors Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius suffered a concussion shortly before the blunders which gifted Real Madrid their Champions League final crown last month, two Boston doctors who examined the shotstopper revealed on Monday. A statement from doctors Ross Zafonte and Lenore Herget said Karius had undergone a comprehensive examination at Massachusetts General Hospital on May 31, five days after Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Madrid in Kiev. “After carefully reviewing game film and integrating a detailed history ... physical exami-
nation and objective metrics, we have concluded that Mr Karius sustained a concussion during the match May 26, 2018,” the statement from Zafonte and Herget said. Karius had complained to match officials in the 49th minute that he had been elbowed in a clash with Madrid defender Sergio
Ramos which went unpunished. Two minutes later, Karius committed a howler when he attempted to throw a pass out to the Liverpool defence only for it to go straight to Real striker Karim Benzema for the opening goal of the final. Karius also erred with Real’s third goal, fumbling Gareth Bale’s
long-range shot into his own net to complete a miserable night for the German goalkeeper. Zafonte and Herget’s statement said it was possible that the concussion had impacted Karius’s performance. “At the time of our evaluation, Mr. Karius’s principal residual symptoms and objective signs suggested that visual spatial dysfunction existed and likely occurred immediately following the event,” the statement said.

TOKYO - Japan’s Akiyo Noguchi began climbing as a tearaway tot clambering onto the backs of cows for kicks on the family farm -- now she’s targeting Olympic gold. The 29-year-old put down an early marker for the 2020 Tokyo Games, when sport climbing makes its Olympic debut, by capturing her third straight World Cup bouldering title last weekend. But it could all have been so different for the world number one, whose decision to quit her university studies and become a professional climber provoked an angry reaction from her mother. “It was 10 years ago and climbing wasn’t in the Olympics, it was still a minor sport,” Noguchi told AFP in an interview. “When I told my parents I was dropping out of college to turn pro, they were extremely worried -- and my mum was dead against it. “But my dad has supported my climbing since I was a kid and built a wall for me in the corner of the farm,” added the adrenalin junkie, who has 21 World Cup bouldering titles to her name. “He insisted I do what makes me happy. But my mum knows now how much I love climbing and has seen how much effort I put into competing so all the family is behind me now.” Noguchi admits she was a handful for her parents with her tomboy antics growing up in Ibaraki prefecture, northeast of Tokyo. “My dad was a farmer and we grew up surrounded by animals,” she said. “I loved climbing on the cows, climbing up trees, climbing onto the roof of the cow shed to play as a kid. “When I was 11 we went on a

I loved overcoming obstacles, that sense of achievement -- I was hooked. “Obviously you need physical strength and power, but climbing is also about the thought process, ingenuity and really just going for it. Willing yourself to go higher -- that’s part of the fun.” The Olympic format will combine three types of climbing techniques: speed, lead and bouldering, with the highest cumulative score deciding the winner. Speed emphasises a climber’s pace, while lead climbing involves the athlete clipping into hooks along the face of the wall with the help of a teammate belaying below. Bouldering sees athletes clamber up smaller rocks and faces without a rope, a deceptively challenging form of climbing that can involve dramatic leaps and impressive feats of strength. Noguchi is looking to improve her lead and speed climbing techniques, beginning at the world championships in Innsbruck this September, which will feature all three disciplines. Jordan PM resigns after anti-austerity protests
AMMAN - Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki resigned on Monday after a wave of antiausterity protests by citizens suffering from high unemployment and repeated prices hikes. Mulki was summoned by King Abdullah II after the capital Amman and several other cities were rocked by demonstrations that drew thousands of people. “Prime Minister Hani Mulki submitted his resignation to the king this afternoon during a meeting at the Husseiniyeh Palace and the king accepted the resignation,” a government source told AFP. The king asked Education Minister Omar al-Razzaz to form a new government, the source added. Jordan, a key US ally, has largely avoided the unrest witnessed by other countries in the region since the Arab Spring revolts broke out in 2011, although protests did flare late that year after the government cut fuel subsidies. A mostly desert kingdom with few resources, the country has seen prices of several basic goods and services like bread, fuel and electricity steadily rise over the past year. The rallying cries by demonstrators for Mulki to step down came after the government adopted a draft income tax law
and announced new price hikes based on recommendations by the International Monetary Fund. Protesters had vowed not to “kneel” and earned support from trade unions as well as a majority of MPs opposed to the new tax. The premier’s meeting with the king came hours after around 5,000 people gathered outside Mulki’s office in Amman, on the fifth consecutive day of protests. James Dorsey, a Middle East analyst, warned that “cosmetic changes” like the prime minister’s removal may not be enough to satisfy protesters. On Saturday Mulki -- who had formed his government in May 2016 -- met with trade union representatives who demanded the income tax law be revoked, but they failed to reach an agreement. There was no immediate reaction to Mulki’s resignation from any of the 16 trade unions backing the protests. “The tax bill will continue to hound the new government, whatever its policy, until the law is thrown out,” said Jordanian political analyst Adel Mahmoud. “The new prime minister will face a number of strategic factors in dealing with the unprecedented street protests, the most important of which is to... open convincing channels of dialogue,” he told AFP. A statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Budapest received by Antara here on Tuesday mentioned that the appreciation and gratitude was delivered by Minister Novak through a letter to Ambassador Wening. Switch to e-cars will cost Germany 75,000 jobs: study The growing use of electrified vehicles is expected to cost Germany’s crucial car sector some 75,000 jobs by 2030, a study found Tuesday, with smaller auto parts suppliers set to be worst hit. The IG Metall union, which commissioned the study along with BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler and a string of car parts makers, said the pivot towards cleaner engines posed a “major challenge” to Germany’s biggest industry, which employs more than 800,000 people. Electric engines are simpler to build and require far fewer parts than petrol- or diesel-fuelled cars. According to the study, carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute, the shift will eliminate 100,000 of the 210,000 jobs in drivetrain manufacturing by 2030, while around 25,000 new roles will be
created linked to batteries and other specific requirements for electric cars. The figures were calculated on the assumption that by then, 25 percent of all cars on Germany’s roads will be fully electric, while another 15 percent will be hybrids, which combine an electric motor with a traditional internal combustion engine. Today, these cars account for less than two percent of the market. IG Metall chief Joerg Hofmann said the government and company bosses needed to take urgent action to prepare the industry for the upheaval, including through retraining schemes. But he also warned that not everyone would survive the electric revolution. “There will be suppliers who won’t be able to adapt
their business model, especially among small- and medium-sized companies,” Hofmann told reporters in Frankfurt. Whereas it takes some 4,000 workers to assemble a million gasoline-powered engines per year, just 1,840 are needed to build the same number of electric motors, the study said. Volkswagen’s staff representative Bernd Osterloh told reporters that the car giant would respond to the changes by phasing out jobs through retirement schemes and “using the opportunities presented by the transformation”. Despite being home to some of the world’s biggest and best known carmakers, Germany’s auto industry was slow to focus its attention on the greener, smarter vehicles of the future -- allowing newcomers like Tesla to take the lead.
But German firms have stepped up their efforts in the wake of Volkswagen’s 2015 “dieselgate” emissions cheating scandal, which

Similarly, in the plowing activities, they were directly involved in taking the cows from the cage. Meanwhile, for cooking activities, they did from twisting

However, during the trip they can see the rice fields, camping tents, and various types of paddies. Here we offer very complete activities,” he said. Suasrawa said that Bindu Village Retreat has the concept of a

The reason for the delay is unclear. But it is a “sign that technical and production challenges are disrupting founder Elon Musk’s plans for human exploration of the solar
system,” said the report. “SpaceX also is confronting industry doubts about market demand for its Falcon Heavy rocket,” it said. The tourists would ride aboard a Dragon capsule, hoisted into space on SpaceX’s most powerful rocket to date, the Falcon Heavy, which made its first test flight only four months ago. SpaceX spokesman James Glee-
son said, in an emailed statement to AFP, that the company “is still planning to fly private individuals around the moon and there is growing interest from many customers.” SpaceX has not publicly released any new timeline for the mission, first announced in February 2017. Since then, concerns about pollution and the falling resale value of diesels have seen consumers turn away from the once popular technology. Whereas diesels still accounted for around 45 percent of all car sales in 2016, that share fell to 38 percent in 2017 and the decline has continued into 2018.
But industry bodies said the car sector remained in good health, pointing out that overall car sales from January to May were up 2.6 percent compared with the same period a year earlier. Other than security post, there are four post stations in TAC Megati post (East Selemadeg), Adipura statue post (Tabanan), Corn Statue post (Baturiti), and Tanah Lot post in Kediri sub-district. And lastly, there is an integrated service post located in Soka Indah or restaurant area of Soka Beach in West Selemadeg. The service particularly in the integrated service post involves all institutions in Tabanan district according to police coordination with
the local government. There are free health services, free workshops, free massages and distribution of free fasting break snacks. “We also involve the elements of health, fire brigade, military personnel, transportation agency, crane officers and municipal police. So, there are other agencies on duty at the integrated service post,” he explained. So far, these posts are still under construction, and they are targeted to be completed on June 6. “The posts have been established from June 1 and should have been finalized on June 6,” he explained. SEMARAPURA —The election of Klungkung regent and Bali governor has been around the corner. The Electoral Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) of Klungkung has mapped the potential for fraud. Of the four sub-districts, Nusa Penida is the most vulnerable. Chairman of Panwaslu Klungkung, I Komang Artawan, revealed the mapping is based on experience in the previous regional leader election and the result of monitoring by Field Electoral Supervisor (PPL). “But the potential is not too high. It remains in alert level. Based on the past experience, the incident is one hundred percent of the same puncture,” he said on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 350 poll superintendents (PTPS) at Puri Denbencingah, Akah village, Klungkung, on Monday (Jun. 4). In response to that, his committee has attempted prevention since the election stage began. This is further maximized by driving the PTPS. “Totally, there are 350 polls, especially in Nusa Penida, there are 107,” he said. However, other sub-districts, namely Klungkung, Banjarangkan and Dawan do not escape from supervision. Australian Consulate-General’s Waste to Wealth initiative holds workshops at ISI Denpasar and Udayana University Following the successful launch of the Australian Consulate-General’s (ACG) Waste to Wealth initiative on Saturday (2/6) with a beach clean-up, the ACG today continued its program with two workshops held at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, and Udayana University. Waste to Wealth is a week-long initiative organized by the ACG that aims to promote environmentally sustainable tourism practices in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara. A full-day collaborative workshop entitled ‘Waste as Art’ was held by internationally renowned Australian environmental artist Dr John Dahlsen, together with 30 students from ISI Denpasar’s Faculty of Arts and Design. Dr Dahlsen and
the students collaborated to create art installations with waste found on the beaches of Bali. Dr Dahlsen told students that his work as an environmental artist began by accident, when he started collecting plastic from beaches in Australia in the mid-90s. “While my art has changed and evolved over time, my underlying commitment to increasing awareness of environmental concerns has never wavered,” said Dr Dahlsen. At Udayana University’s #AussieBanget Corner, Australian environmental science educator Ms Louise Hardman, and academic chair of Murdoch University’s environmental engineering program, Dr Martin Anda, presented a workshop entitled Being Aware of Our
Environment. Approximately 40 students and academics were present. Ms Hardman’s key message was ‘Plastic waste is polluting our oceans, which we all share, so we need to find solutions to change it into something that has value and when something has value, it no longer become rubbish’. She also outlined her education program, which focused on transforming waste into valuable items with her purpose-built mobile plasticrecycling machine. In his presentation, Dr Martin Anda talked about engineering solutions to environmental problems and the importance of education in managing environmental challenges. Dr Anda also visited Undiknas University Bali, and provided an
open lecture to around 100 students from the faculties of business and economics. Dr Anda encouraged future education cooperation and collaboration between Australia and Indonesia, including in the engineering and environmental science sectors. Australian Consul-General Dr Helena Studdert appreciated the collaboration with local education institutions in running the workshops as part of the Waste to Wealth initiative. “Environmental issues are very much interconnected with education and we hope by bringing these educators to the universities, we can help increase students awareness and skills to make informed decisions and actions regarding to our environment”, said

The pop singer triggered a flurry of negative reactions over the weekend when, in a largely innocuous exchange with fans on Twitter, she was asked to name the funniest prank she has ever pulled off. Lovato said that she hired a sex worker to enter the hotel room of her bodyguard when they were staying in Las Vegas, where prostitution is legal. “She walked into his room without permission and grabbed him in his ‘area’ and he freaked,” Lovato said, sharing her amusement. A number of Twitter users took Lovato to task, saying that she was admitting to a serious episode of sexual harassment, an issue that has drawn growing attention amid the rise of the #MeToo movement. Rare dinosaur skeleton sells for two million euros
PARIS - The skeleton of an extremely rare form of dinosaur sold for more than two million euros ($2.3 million) at the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Monday. The bones of what scientists believe to be “probably a new species” of the carnivorous allosaurus were discovered during a dig in Wyoming in the United States in 2013. The 150-million-year-old skeleton, which is 70 percent intact, was snapped up by an unnamed French art collector, who promised that the specimen will be lent out to a museum. The buyer “wants it to be on display in a French museum,” auctioneer Claude Aguttes told AFP. The dinosaur, which is more than nine metres (30 feet) long
and 2.6 metres high, lived during the late Jurassic period, said Eric Mickeler who works for the Aguttes auction house. He said it was the “only one of its species” to have yet been discovered. Dinosaur expert Eric Geneste had earlier told AFP it was impossible to “classify the skeleton yet as a allosaurus” because it was more robust, “with longer shoulder blades and a different number of teeth”. “In fact there are as many differences between it and an allosaurus as between a human and a gorilla,”
he added. Japanese and Swedish telephone bidders also tried to buy the dinosaur, pushing the bidding above the 1.8 million euro estimate. The same French auction house sold an allosaurus called “Kan” for 1.1 million euros in 2016. Mickeler said that “herbivores do not quite excite businessmen who buy dinosaurs the same way as carnivores do. They want to buy carnivores like themselves.” Part of the proceeds of the sale of the skeleton by a British collector will go to towards funding further archaeological digs. (afp)

The blanket of trash on a creek that flows between the makeshift homes of a Manila slum is so dense it appears one could walk across it like a paved street. However, the thick and fetid mosaic of plastic bottles, takeaway containers and plastic bags is just a porous layer atop the filthy water of Estero de Magdalena. It is one of the tributaries that run into Manila’s most important and heavily polluted waterways, the Pasig River. City officials blame the slum’s residents for using the creek as an open-air dump and have installed massive strainers in the water that keeps the trash from flowing downstream.
“They (residents) are turning the creeks into a trash can,” said Lorenzo Alconera, an official with the city engineering department. “We want to block it at that point so we can easily collect the garbage. We do not want it to flow into the Pasig River,” he added. Trash that makes it into the river can then be swept out into the South China
Sea or be sucked back by tides into the Laguna de Bay, the country’s largest lake. Plastic pollution is a major problem in the Philippines, which along with China, Vietnam and Indonesia is frequently listed among the world’s worst offenders. The city says it periodically uses heavy equipment to scoop the rub-
bish from the water and ends up with five to 10 truck loads of waste to haul away. That is of little consolation to the impoverished families who live in homes cobbled together from pallets, scraps of wood and corrugated steel stained with rust. Authorities say the trash-choked creek is a breeding ground for preventable illnesses like cholera and typhoid fever. Beyond concerns over the infections that thrive in the waterway, residents also have to deal with a constant and unavoidable concern:
its stench. “We cannot properly sleep because of the garbage. Whether it rains or is sunny, there are the smells,” 35-year-old vendor Marlyn Estrada Calderon told AFP.
