Since the preparations have not been maximal made by central and local government, Balinese people are overshadowed with the concerns of becoming a slave in their home region. Three suspects of illegal logging arrested

NEGARA - The ranks of Jembrana Rangers with the Melaya Police could arrest three people denoting the suspect of illegal logging. The offender arrested were Kade Suardana, 50, from Brawansalak hamlet, Banyubiru, Negara, denoting the driver of truck with license plate DK 9490 WH and Made Pasek, 54, from Banyubiru hamlet, Banyubiru village, Negara. From the development, the officers could arrest Ni Komang Kanten, 65, from Sarikuning hamlet, Tukadaya village, Melaya. Chief of Melaya Police, Nyoman Nirman, with permission from Jembrana Police, said on Sunday (May 4) that his party initially received information if there was deforestation in the region of Sombang and Sarikuning, Tukadaya. After making an investigation and patrol, the rangers on Friday afternoon (May 2) caught a yellow truck with license plate DK 9490 WH carrying 30 logs of mahogany, 3 logs of albizia (0.525 meters3) and 0.96 cubic meter of firewood and two offenders. Afterwards, the truck, timber and the two suspects were arrested in Jembrana Police. From the case development, both suspects admitted to purchase the timber from the suspect Ni Komang Kanten. The suspect Kanten was not arrested because her condition was poor and sickly. In addition to securing a truck of timber, Melaya Police had also arrested a gig in the forest area of Sarikuning, Tukadaya, Melaya. The two suspects respectively Dewa Kade Suardana and Made Pasek were charged under Article 12 e in conjunction with article 83 paragraph 1 of the Law No.18/2013 on the eradication and prevention of forest destruction. Meanwhile, Kanten would be charged under Article 12 paragraph 1 of article 87 C of the Law No.81/2013. The suspect Pasek admitted to have purchased the wood at IDR 180,000. “However, from the calculation of the ranger, the state losses incurred due to such action is IDR 720,000,” said Nirman. Meanwhile, Kanten claimed that she only picked up the fagots of firewood and then collected in the forest. “Because there was a resident wishing to purchase her firewood, she then sold it,” said Kanten at her home. In the year 2016, it was expected to reach over USD 2 trillion. “In Indonesia, the development occurs in financial sector and capital markets have become a part of the financial industry. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Talk about some serious legroom. Etihad Airways, a fast-growing Mideast carrier, laid out plans Sunday to offer passengers who find first-class seats a bit too tight a miniature suite featuring a closed-off bedroom, private bathroom and a dedicated butler. It’s just the latest push by airlines worldwide to attract high-spending customers. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier announced the front-of-plane amenities as part of a broader rollout of plush new cabin offerings for dozens of long-range jetliners it plans to receive over the coming years. It is the latest in a series of premium offerings for the flying elite by Etihad, which already woos fliers with perks including private first-class chefs and inflight nannies. Etihad Chief Executive James Hogan conceded that offering what the airline says is the first-of-its kind multi-room suite helps generate buzz, but that ultimately it is a serious effort to bring in more cash. “Obviously there’s going to be a halo effect in the positioning of Etihad Air as a premium carrier,” he said. “But we wouldn’t do it unless we felt we could make money with it. ... This is a top-end market. There is demand here.” Etihad is the smallest of three rapidly expanding, governmentbacked Gulf carriers redrawing global aviation maps by funneling travelers through their desert hubs. Its base in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, this year became the first in the Mideast to open a U.S. preclearance facility staffed by
American customs and border officials. U.S. pilots and members of Congress have criticized the facility, which is largely funded by the UAE, alleging it puts American carriers at a disadvantage. Since starting operations in 2003, Etihad has built a fleet of 96 planes and carried 11.5 million passengers last year. It has ordered more than 220 additional planes, including 10 Airbus A380s and 71 Boeing 787s being outfitted with new interiors introduced Sunday. It has been aggressively building stakes in foreign carriers, including Virgin Australia and Germany’s second largest airline Air Berlin. It has for months been considering buying a piece of struggling Italian carrier Alitalia. Hogan had no comment on those negotiations Sunday. Its bigger rival Emirates, based in nearby Dubai, has offered onboard showers to first-class passengers aboard its double-decker Airbus A380s since the plane joined the fleet in 2008. TABANAN - Putu Riky Satrya Mahendra, 19, a drug abuser, was arrested by criminal detective unit of Tabanan Police. Beijing fines 652 firms for pollution in four months BEIJING - Authorities in the Chinese capital fined 652 industrial facilities for breaching environmental regulations in the first four months of the year as it stepped up efforts to fight pollution. Portugal is now set to emerge from the bailout on May 17, and is expected to try to finance itself on bond markets without a so-called safety net, becoming the second stricken eurozone country to do so after Ireland. Portugal made the decision while still enacting the latest round of severe measures to keep its public finances within targets laid down by the International Monetary Fund, European Union and European Central Bank. Rafts of reforms tied to rescue loans pushed the country into recession and the people into severe hardship, with cuts in pay, pensions and public services. The auditors, who began their last audit of progress on reforms on April 22, finished their work late on Thursday after marathon negotiations. Their approval of the national accounts and progress opens the way for the release of the last payment of 2.6 billion euros of the total rescue package of 78 billion euros ($108 billion) extended in May 2011. By following the example set by Ireland, Portugal will now proceed to issue bonds without having the backup of a precautionary line of credit. NEGARA - Jati Temple is nestled within the area of Pengambengan village, about four kilometers south of the town of Negara, Jembrana. The temple spreading across an area of approximately 4,700 square meters is one of the dang khayangan temples (used to venerate a Hindu sage) in Jembrana. As the name implies, this temple has distinctiveness where teak trees grow inside the temple area. This temple is also closely related to the pilgrimage of Dang Hyang Nirartha on the Island of Bali. In the innermost courtyard for worship lie an oblation pavilion, gamelan pavilion, piasan pavilion and a chamber to store cloth paraphernalia. Four teak trees grow in the temple area. According to many of supporting devotee chief, Ketut Astika Jaya, the teak trees had distinctiveness. Aside from prohibited from taking the teak seedlings, the branches of trees belonging to hundreds of years old never toppled over the padmasana shrine underneath. The branch broke itself into ashes and did not topple over the padmasana shrine. Around the spring, there were four teak trees growing close to one another. Once upon a time, one of the trees bent and almost toppled over the temple compound wall. Devotees originally worried if it would touch the wall, but after a few months the tree could stand upright by itself. “In addition, after several years, the distance of the padmasana shrine to the teak trees was once only a few centimeters, but now has gone farther up to two meters away. Formerly, the temple priest should lean his body when passing, but now he can pass freely,” he explained.
In the middle courtyard lay a resting pavilion, grand entrance gates, apit lawang, tower of wooden split drum (kulkul) and kitchen. Meanwhile, in the outermost courtyard lay the wantilan hall and quite ample parking lot. The temple also got assistance from the regent of Jembrana used to build a fence around the temple area and split gates. In the next five years, the innermost courtyard of the temple would be restored because some parts of the temple had been fragile. Other than on the piodalan or temple anniversary, the temple supported by four customary villages in the Negara subdistrict was also visited by many pilgrims on full moon. Those pilgrims were dominated by teenagers and students who wanted to have purificatory rite or malukat. Similarly, myriad of pilgrims also came to worship on Sarasvati Day. In the innermost courtyard lay seven buildings including the padmasana, three-tiered meru shrine, pepelik pavilion, Sri Sedana, representation of Ulun Danu Temple, taksu, chamber to store sanctified effigies and anglurah shrine. The four customary villages supporting the temple were the Tegal Badeng
Kauh, Tegal Badeng Kangin, Lelateng and Puseh Agung (Tengah hamlet). This temple was closely associated with Dang Hyang Nirartha as well as two other dang khayangan temples in Jembrana, namely the Perancak and Mertasari. He

When traveling in Bali, you do not need to be confused to get a meal or just a snack. The community of Bali Island is rich in culinary tradition, including various fresh cakes. Even, the cakes produced are eco-friendly because the ingredients and coloring agent in use are obtained from organic plants. One of them is the lukis cake. This traditional cake tastes sweet, sticky and chewy. It resembles to small triangle in greenish color. When being served, it presented with grated coconut and brown sugar. It will be going more appropriate if enjoyed with coffee or tea. This kind of cake is not easy to get. Aside from being difficult to find its ingredients, the making is also quite complicated. However, the food stalls at villages, traditional markets, pastry shops and some supermarkets are selling it. Uniquely, in the cake shop and supermarket this lukis cake has been packaged neatly, unlike in the stalls as it is presented manually to make it look really
fresh. The lukis cake makes use of ingredients like sticky rice. By and large, it is then mixed with black sticky rice that has an interesting texture. The other ingredients comprise the grated coconut, salt and Balinese palm sugar (brown sugar). To make it, the black sticky rice is soaked for some 15 minutes. Furthermore, it is drained and filled with salt so that it will not be tasteless. After that, take a spoon of the batter and wrap in green and clean banana leaf. Wrap it tightly, so the results will be sticky and not watery. Boil them for approximately 2 hours (do as boiling rice bag). Further, take them out and drain. To make sure whether the sticky rice has been cooked or not, test it by piercing with a pin (palm leaf rib). If it has been hard, simply take them out and drain. Wait for a while until turning cooler and then serve them. To serve them, unwrap the leaf first and place on the even serving leaf. Then, sprinkle them with shredded coconut containing salt. As the finishing step, sprinkle all the cakes with brown sugar.

SYDNEY — An international panel of experts will re-examine all data gathered in the nearly two-month hunt for the missing Malaysia jet to ensure search crews who have been scouring a desolate patch of ocean for the plane have been looking in the right place, officials said Monday. Senior officials from Malaysia, Australia and China met in the Australian capital to hash out the details of the next steps in the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which will center around an expanded patch of seafloor in a remote area of the Indian Ocean off Western Australia. The area became the focus of the hunt after a team of analysts calculated the plane’s likeliest flight path based on satellite and radar data. Starting Wednesday, that data will be re-analyzed and combined with all information gathered thus far in the search, which hasn’t turned up a single piece of debris despite crews scouring more than 4.6 million square kilometers (1.8 million square miles) of ocean. “We’ve got to this stage of the process where it’s very sensible to go back and have a look at all of the data that has been gathered, all of the analysis that has been done and make sure there’s no flaws in it, the assumptions are right, the analysis is
right and the deductions and conclusions are right,” Angus Houston, head of the search operation, told reporters in Canberra. Investigators have been stymied by a lack of hard data since the plane vanished on March 8 during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. A weekslong search for surface debris was called off last week after officials determined any wreckage that may have been floating has likely sunk. “Unfortunately, all of that effort has found nothing,” Australian Transport Minister Warren Truss said. “We’ve been confident on the basis of the information provided that the search area was the right one, but in practice, that confidence has not been converted into us discovering any trace of the aircraft.” Houston has warned the underwater search is likely to drag on for up to a year. Houston and Truss met with Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Chinese Transport Minister Yang Chuantang in
Canberra on Monday to map out the next steps of the underwater search, which will focus on a 60,000 square kilometer (23,000 square mile) patch of seafloor. Officials are contacting governments and private contractors to find out whether they have specialized equipment that can dive deeper than the Bluefin 21, an unmanned sub that has spent weeks scouring the seafloor in an area where sounds consistent with a plane’s black box were detected in early April. The Bluefin has been limited by the fact it can dive only to depths of 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) — and parts of the search zone are likely deeper than that. Adding to the difficulties is the fact no one really knows exactly how deep the water in the search area is. “I don’t know that anyone knows for sure, because it’s never been mapped,” Truss said, adding that detailed mapping of the seafloor will be a key focus of the next phase of the search.
BEIJING — A Chinese court has convicted a man of spying and sentenced him to 10 years in prison for leaking classified military documents to a foreign spy who also approached more than 50 other people around China, state media said Monday. The official China Daily newspaper said on its website that the man stole secret military documents and transferred photographs and other useful information to the foreign party. It did not say to which foreign governments the information may have been transferred, and didn’t cite sources for its report. The China Daily and other official media identified the suspect by the surname Li. They said the recipient of the documents was named Feige, but gave no other information about the person. The newspaper said Li also gathered information about military bases in the southern province of Guangdong, home to China’s southern fleet that oversees operations in the sensitive South China Sea. The report said Feige also contacted 12 other people in Guangdong, as well as 40 other people in the rest of China, but didn’t specify whether those people had provided information. Interest in the aims of China’s booming military spending has grown in recent years, particularly among officials in the U.S., the region’s primary military power. Taiwan, which China has threatened to use force against to bring it under its control, and Japan are also close observers of China’s defense outlays. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said she had no information about the report. Such cases are usually handled in secret with little information released about them to the public. While China’s military still lags far behind the U.S. in both funding and technology, its spending boom comes as American defense budgets are being slashed, leaving some nations to question Washington’s commitment to its Asian allies, including some which have lingering disputes with China. Growth in the archipelago nation has been easing over the past year as Chinese demand for key commodities slows, foreign investors are put off by policies perceived as nationalistic and interest rate hikes curb lending. Year-on-year growth slipped to 5.21 percent in the three months to the end of March, down from 5.72 percent on-year expansion in the fourth quarter of 2013, the official statistics agency said. Economists had forecast growth of 5.60 percent. Growth for 2013 came in below six percent for the first time in four years
and analysts said the latest lacklustre data indicated a pick-up was unlikely. “We think that tight monetary policy, along with weak demand for commodity exports, will prevent a bounce-back to the six percent-plus growth rates that not long ago looked like the norm,” said Capital Economics in a note. Indonesia hiked interest rates by 175 basis points last year to 7.50 percent after stocks and the rupiah plunged as speculation grew that the United States was about to start winding back its stimulus programme.
The move was credited with shoring up the economy, which has been more stable in recent months, but it appears to have hit growth, analysts said. Foreign investment growth -- while still at high rates globally -- also slowed by more than half to around 10 percent in the first quarter of this year, according to data released last month. Overseas businesses have been put off due to policies perceived as nationalistic such as a ban on the export of some unprocessed minerals, analysts said. Exports fell 0.78 percent in the first quarter, while imports fell 0.66 percent, according to the statistics agency. But household consumption -- a key driver of the economy -- remained robust, growing at 5.61 percent as politicians spent on social projects ahead of elections last month, the agency said.
JAYAPURA - The researchers from the Jayapura Institute of Archaeology have currently made a major breakthrough by successfully discovering a nautilus fossil in the Khilbakame and Khilnarkime Rivers of the Central Mamberamo district in Papua. “Based on the institute’s current research expedition, the discovered Nautilus fossil is classified in the Chephalopoda class, mollusks phylum, and the creature was living in the sea,” Jayapura Institute of Archaeology researcher Hari Suroto claimed on Monday. According to Hari, these animals were characteristically soft-bodied and lacked thick shells. The coat of these animals wraps around the body and forms a loose collar on the neck. “The creature was chiffon that sucked water through its gills located in the lower mantle and used the water to move around by spraying it in whichever direction it desired to move,” Hari remarked. Hari also pointed out that the location where the fossil was found was about one thousand meters above sea level. “The discovery of the fossilized nautilus at that altitude attests to the fact that the site was a part of the sea bed,” emphasized Hari. According to geographical history, around 15 million years ago, the mountain range located in the middle of Papua was formed by the collision of the Pacific plate drifting in the Southern direction and the Australian plate drifting in the Northern direction. “This is a historical record by the Archaeological Institute of Jayapura. We forecast that many more prehistoric and historic fossils exist in the highlands of central Papua,” added Hari.

JAKARTA - About 4.1 million junior high school (SMP) and Packet B students across the country attended the state-sponsored national examinations on Monday. “All preparations have been made. We hope the examinations will proceed smoothly today,” Deputy Education and Culture Minister Mulsiar Kasim stated here on Monday. Of the total students giving the examinations on Monday, 3,902,948 are from SMP and 227,743 from the lower secondary Islamic School (MTS) plus Packet B students. Just a day earlier, the deputy minister had inspected the national examination preparations in several SMP schools in Jakarta on Sunday. Among the schools visited by the deputy minister on Sunday was SMPN 200, which was engulfed in fire on Saturday. “The examination participants from SMPN 200 have been moved to the nearest SDN 04 Rorotan elementary school building,” the deputy minister remarked. BARCELONA, Spain — Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid both slipped up in the Spanish league on Sunday to tighten a compelling title race even further. Atletico’s march toward its first title since 1996 hit a bump when it lost 2-0 at Levante, although its city rival failed to make up much ground as Madrid needed a spectacular injury-time equalizer from Cristiano Ronaldo to salvage a 2-2 draw at home against Valencia. Barcelona had written off its title defense after drawing 2-2 with Getafe on Saturday, but its rivals’ stumbles have put it right back in the hunt. LONDON — Jose Mourinho accepted Chelsea’s Premier League faint title hopes had been extinguished by a 0-0 draw against Norwich on Sunday, with the manager bemoaning the team’s laziness and misfiring strikers as his first season back in charge ends with a whimper. Neither striker Demba Ba nor Fernando Torres came close to scoring as Chelsea was left unsuccessfully appealing for penalties in this drab penultimate game of the season. “Our strikers are good strikers, no doubt about that, but players with some specific qualities,” Mourinho said. “They are not the kind of players in five square meters with three or four players around who can get the ball, can dribble around and make the shot. “So when the team is in a difficult situation they are not able to normally resolve that situation for us.” It likely means Mourinho’s first season back at Chelsea will end without a trophy. Chelsea, with one game left, is a point behind Manchester City and Liverpool, who both have two matches remaining and a superior goal difference. “We tried everything but at the end of the day we knew we had no chance of being champions,” he added. Chelsea is three points ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal, which also has one game left, but the Blues have a much better goal differ-
ence. A draw at Stamford Bridge would usually be something to celebrate for Norwich — giving Neil Adams his first point in his fourth game as interim manager — but it leaves the club closer to the drop. Norwich needs Sunderland to lose to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday and Swansea on Sunday, when the Canaries must beat Arsenal. Realistically, the season seems to be over for both Norwich and Chelsea, which still seemed to be affected by Wednesday’s Champions League semifinal loss to Atletico Madrid. “The first half was typical of the consequence of that state of mind,” Mourinho said. “It was a lazy first half,” he added. “Slow, no pressure, the midfield weren’t arriving to press the opponent.” Chelsea was fortunate that referee Neil Swarbrick dismissed Norwich’s penalty claims after 11 minutes when Martin Olsson was fouled in the area by John Terry. Chelsea didn’t make the most of its reprieve, with the hosts unable to trouble goalkeeper John Ruddy, who easily saved Terry’s header. Andre Schuerrle did manage to hit the inside of the post but his follow-up was easily collected by Ruddy, and Willian completely miscued a shot just before half time. LONDON — Jose Mourinho accepted Chelsea’s Premier League faint title hopes had been extinguished by a 0-0 draw against Norwich on Sunday, with the manager bemoaning the team’s laziness and misfiring strikers as his first season back in charge ends with a whimper. Neither striker Demba Ba nor Fernando Torres came close to scoring as Chelsea was left unsuccessfully appealing for penalties in this drab penultimate game of the season. “Our strikers are good strikers, no doubt about that, but players with some specific qualities,” Mourinho said. “They are not the kind of players in five square meters with three or four players around who can get the ball, can dribble around and make the shot. “So when the team is in a difficult situation they are not able to normally resolve that situation for us.” It likely means Mourinho’s first season back at Chelsea will end without a trophy. Chelsea is three points ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal, which also has one game left, but the Blues have a much better goal differ-

A draw at Stamford Bridge would usually be something to celebrate for Norwich — giving Neil Adams his first point in his fourth game as interim manager — but it leaves the club closer to the drop. SYDNEY — An international panel of experts will re-examine all data gathered in the nearly two-month hunt for the missing Malaysia jet to ensure search crews who have been scouring a desolate patch of ocean for the plane have been looking in the right place, officials said Monday. Senior officials from Malaysia, Australia and China met in the Australian capital to hash out the details of the next steps in the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which will center around an expanded patch of seafloor in a remote area of the Indian Ocean off Western Australia. The area became the focus of the hunt after a team of analysts calculated the plane’s likeliest flight path based on satellite and radar data. Starting Wednesday, that data will be re-analyzed and combined with all information gathered thus far in the search, which hasn’t turned up a single piece of debris despite crews scouring more than 4.6 million square kilometers (1.8 million square miles) of ocean. “We’ve got to this stage of the process where it’s very sensible to go back and have a look at all of the data that has been gathered, all of the analysis that has been done and make sure there’s no flaws in it, the assumptions are right, the analysis is
right and the deductions and conclusions are right,” Angus Houston, head of the search operation, told reporters in Canberra. Investigators have been stymied by a lack of hard data since the plane vanished on March 8 during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. A weekslong search for surface debris was called off last week after officials determined any wreckage that may have been floating has likely sunk. “Unfortunately, all of that effort has found nothing,” Australian Transport Minister Warren Truss said. “We’ve been confident on the basis of the information provided that the search area was the right one, but in practice, that confidence has not been converted into us discovering any trace of the aircraft.” Houston has warned the underwater search is likely to drag on for up to a year. Houston and Truss met with Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Chinese Transport Minister Yang Chuantang in
Canberra on Monday to map out the next steps of the underwater search, which will focus on a 60,000 square kilometer (23,000 square mile) patch of seafloor. Officials are contacting governments and private contractors to find out whether they have specialized equipment that can dive deeper than the Bluefin 21, an unmanned sub that has spent weeks scouring the seafloor in an area where sounds consistent with a plane’s black box were detected in early April. The Bluefin has been limited by the fact it can dive only to depths of 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) — and parts of the search zone are likely deeper than that. Adding to the difficulties is the fact no one really knows exactly how deep the water in the search area is. “I don’t know that anyone knows for sure, because it’s never been mapped,” Truss said, adding that detailed mapping of the seafloor will be a key focus of the next phase of the search.
BEIJING — A Chinese court has convicted a man of spying and sentenced him to 10 years in prison for leaking classified military documents to a foreign spy who also approached more than 50 other people around China, state media said Monday. The official China Daily newspaper said on its website that the man stole secret military documents and transferred photographs and other useful information to the foreign party. It did not say to which foreign governments the information may have been transferred, and didn’t cite sources for its report. The China Daily and other official media identified the suspect by the surname Li. They said the recipient of the documents was named Feige, but gave no other information about the person. The newspaper said Li also gathered information about military bases in the southern province of Guangdong, home to China’s southern fleet that oversees operations in the sensitive South China Sea. The report said Feige also contacted 12 other people in Guangdong, as well as 40 other people in the rest of China, but didn’t specify whether those people had provided information. Interest in the aims of China’s booming military spending has grown in recent years, particularly among officials in the U.S., the region’s primary military power. Taiwan, which China has threatened to use force against to bring it under its control, and Japan are also close observers of China’s defense outlays. Year-on-year growth slipped to 5.21 percent in the three months to the end of March, down from 5.72 percent on-year expansion in the fourth quarter of 2013, the official statistics agency said. Economists had forecast growth of 5.60 percent. Growth for 2013 came in below six percent for the first time in four years
and analysts said the latest lacklustre data indicated a pick-up was unlikely. “We think that tight monetary policy, along with weak demand for commodity exports, will prevent a bounce-back to the six percent-plus growth rates that not long ago looked like the norm,” said Capital Economics in a note. Indonesia hiked interest rates by 175 basis points last year to 7.50 percent after stocks and the rupiah plunged as speculation grew that the United States was about to start winding back its stimulus programme.

JAYAPURA - The researchers from the Jayapura Institute of Archaeology have currently made a major breakthrough by successfully discovering a nautilus fossil in the Khilbakame and Khilnarkime Rivers of the Central Mamberamo district in Papua. “Based on the institute’s current research expedition, the discovered Nautilus fossil is classified in the Chephalopoda class, mollusks phylum, and the creature was living in the sea,” Jayapura Institute of Archaeology researcher Hari Suroto claimed on Monday. According to Hari, these animals were characteristically soft-bodied and lacked thick shells. The coat of these animals wraps around the body and forms a loose collar on the neck. “The creature was chiffon that sucked water through its gills located in the lower mantle and used the water to move around by spraying it in whichever direction it desired to move,” Hari remarked. Hari also pointed out that the location where the fossil was found was about one thousand meters above sea level. “The discovery of the fossilized nautilus at that altitude attests to the fact that the site was a part of the sea bed,” emphasized Hari. According to geographical history, around 15 million years ago, the mountain range located in the middle of Papua was formed by the collision of the Pacific plate drifting in the Southern direction and the Australian plate drifting in the Northern direction. “This is a historical record by the Archaeological Institute of Jayapura. We forecast that many more prehistoric and historic fossils exist in the highlands of central Papua,” added Hari.

Beijing fines 652 firms for pollution in four months BEIJING - Authorities in the Chinese capital fined 652 industrial facilities for breaching environmental regulations in the first four months of the year as it stepped up efforts to fight pollution. Beijing’s air quality has come under intense scrutiny since January last year, when heavy smog settled over the city to the alarm of its residents.
Premier Li Keqiang in March promised a “war on pollution” as the country seeks to stem public anger over premature deaths while weaning the economy off over-
dependence on energy-guzzling heavy industry. Their approval of the national accounts and progress opens the way for the release of the last payment of 2.6 billion euros of the total rescue package of 78 billion euros ($108 billion) extended in May 2011. By following the example set by Ireland, Portugal will now proceed to issue bonds without having the backup of a precautionary line of credit. The strategy decided Sunday comes before a eurozone finance minister meeting in Brussels on Monday, where the Portuguese minister will present the government’s financing plans. NEGARA - Jati Temple is nestled within the area of Pengambengan village, about four kilometers south of the town of Negara, Jembrana. The temple spreading across an area of approximately 4,700 square meters is one of the dang khayangan temples (used to venerate a Hindu sage) in Jembrana. As the name implies, this temple has distinctiveness where teak trees grow inside the temple area. This temple is also closely related to the pilgrimage of Dang Hyang Nirartha on the Island of Bali. In the innermost courtyard for worship lie an oblation pavilion, gamelan pavilion, piasan pavilion and a chamber to store cloth paraphernalia. Four teak trees grow in the temple area. According to many of supporting devotee chief, Ketut Astika Jaya, the teak trees had distinctiveness. Aside from prohibited from taking the teak seedlings, the branches of trees belonging to hundreds of years old never toppled over the padmasana shrine underneath. The branch broke itself into ashes and did not topple over the padmasana shrine. Around the spring, there were four teak trees growing close to one another. Once upon a time, one of the trees bent and almost toppled over the temple compound wall. Devotees originally worried if it would touch the wall, but after a few months the tree could stand upright by itself. “In addition, after several years, the distance of the padmasana shrine to the teak trees was once only a few centimeters, but now has gone farther up to two meters away. Formerly, the temple priest should lean his body when passing, but now he can pass freely,” he explained.
In the middle courtyard lay a resting pavilion, grand entrance gates, apit lawang, tower of wooden split drum (kulkul) and kitchen. In the innermost courtyard lay seven buildings including the padmasana, three-tiered meru shrine, pepelik pavilion, Sri Sedana, representation of Ulun Danu Temple, taksu, chamber to store sanctified effigies and anglurah shrine. The four customary villages supporting the temple were the Tegal Badeng
Kauh, Tegal Badeng Kangin, Lelateng and Puseh Agung (Tengah hamlet). This temple was closely associated with Dang Hyang Nirartha as well as two other dang khayangan temples in Jembrana, namely the Perancak and Mertasari. He

When traveling in Bali, you do not need to be confused to get a meal or just a snack. The community of Bali Island is rich in culinary tradition, including various fresh cakes. Even, the cakes produced are eco-friendly because the ingredients and coloring agent in use are obtained from organic plants. One of them is the lukis cake. This traditional cake tastes sweet, sticky and chewy. It resembles to small triangle in greenish color. When being served, it presented with grated coconut and brown sugar. It will be going more appropriate if enjoyed with coffee or tea. This kind of cake is not easy to get. Aside from being difficult to find its ingredients, the making is also quite complicated. However, the food stalls at villages, traditional markets, pastry shops and some supermarkets are selling it. Uniquely, in the cake shop and supermarket this lukis cake has been packaged neatly, unlike in the stalls as it is presented manually to make it look really
fresh. The lukis cake makes use of ingredients like sticky rice. By and large, it is then mixed with black sticky rice that has an interesting texture. The other ingredients comprise the grated coconut, salt and Balinese palm sugar (brown sugar). To make it, the black sticky rice is soaked for some 15 minutes. Furthermore, it is drained and filled with salt so that it will not be tasteless. After that, take a spoon of the batter and wrap in green and clean banana leaf. Wrap it tightly, so the results will be sticky and not watery. Boil them for approximately 2 hours (do as boiling rice bag). Further, take them out and drain. To make sure whether the sticky rice has been cooked or not, test it by piercing with a pin (palm leaf rib). If it has been hard, simply take them out and drain. Wait for a while until turning cooler and then serve them. To serve them, unwrap the leaf first and place on the even serving leaf. Then, sprinkle them with shredded coconut containing salt. As the finishing step, sprinkle all the cakes with brown sugar.

TABANAN - Putu Riky Satrya Mahendra, 19, a drug abuser, was arrested by criminal detective unit of Tabanan Police. The offender having the address at Kawan Piling hamlet, Penebel village, Tabanan, was arrested by the officers, Saturday (May 3) around 7:00 p.m. at the roadside of Jalan Bingin Ambe, exactly in front of Notee Frezz Bubble stall, Anyar hamlet, Kediri, Tabanan. From the hands of the offender was found a package of crystal meth with a gross weight of 0.2 gram. The suspect had become the target of operation (TO) of the officer for a long time. Chief of Tabanan Police, Dekananto Eko Purwono, revealed on Sunday (May 4), the arrest was made after the officers got information if there would be a drug transaction at the scene. The officers had long been stalking the offender who did not have a steady job. Meanwhile, at the scene the officers saw suspicious movement of the offender. After that, they could successfully arrest the offender. Chief Dekananto claimed to be increasingly concerned with drugs distribution, especially the distribution of crystal meth, reaching the rural areas. He said the entry of drug syndicates to rural areas and targeting young people in Tabanan

BANGLI - Residents of Pengotan village in Bangli held a traditional mass wedding ceremony, Saturday (May 4). A total of 32 couples of local village joined the customary wedding procession. Unlike the wedding ceremony of Bali in general, the wedding ceremony at Pengotan village was made obligatory. Otherwise, the marriage will be declared illegal by local residents. The tradition having been passed down from generation to generation started from each local customary house at the village. There, the brides and grooms were separated and placed at each face-to-face house. After passing through a special ritual procession, the bride was picked up by the groom in a unique manner, where the groom had to knock at the door of the bride by using a kris dagger. ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Talk about some serious legroom. Etihad Airways, a fast-growing Mideast carrier, laid out plans Sunday to offer passengers who find first-class seats a bit too tight a miniature suite featuring a closed-off bedroom, private bathroom and a dedicated butler. It’s just the latest push by airlines worldwide to attract high-spending customers. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier announced the front-of-plane amenities as part of a broader rollout of plush new cabin offerings for dozens of long-range jetliners it plans to receive over the coming years. It is the latest in a series of premium offerings for the flying elite by Etihad, which already woos fliers with perks including private first-class chefs and inflight nannies. Etihad Chief Executive James Hogan conceded that offering what the airline says is the first-of-its kind multi-room suite helps generate buzz, but that ultimately it is a serious effort to bring in more cash. “Obviously there’s going to be a halo effect in the positioning of Etihad Air as a premium carrier,” he said. “But we wouldn’t do it unless we felt we could make money with it. ... This is a top-end market. There is demand here.” Etihad is the smallest of three rapidly expanding, governmentbacked Gulf carriers redrawing global aviation maps by funneling travelers through their desert hubs. DENPASAR - Implementation of the Bali Arts Festival (BAF) held at Denpasar Art Center considered to have no change and seemed monotonous. Three suspects of illegal logging arrested

NEGARA - The ranks of Jembrana Rangers with the Melaya Police could arrest three people denoting the suspect of illegal logging. The offender arrested were Kade Suardana, 50, from Brawansalak hamlet, Banyubiru, Negara, denoting the driver of truck with license plate DK 9490 WH and Made Pasek, 54, from Banyubiru hamlet, Banyubiru village, Negara. From the development, the officers could arrest Ni Komang Kanten, 65, from Sarikuning hamlet, Tukadaya village, Melaya. Chief of Melaya Police, Nyoman Nirman, with permission from Jembrana Police, said on Sunday (May 4) that his party initially received information if there was deforestation in the region of Sombang and Sarikuning, Tukadaya. After making an investigation and patrol, the rangers on Friday afternoon (May 2) caught a yellow truck with license plate DK 9490 WH carrying 30 logs of mahogany, 3 logs of albizia (0.525 meters3) and 0.96 cubic meter of firewood and two offenders. Afterwards, the truck, timber and the two suspects were arrested in Jembrana Police. From the case development, both suspects admitted to purchase the timber from the suspect Ni Komang Kanten. The suspect Kanten was not arrested because her condition was poor and sickly. In addition to securing a truck of timber, Melaya Police had also arrested a gig in the forest area of Sarikuning, Tukadaya, Melaya. The two suspects respectively Dewa Kade Suardana and Made Pasek were charged under Article 12 e in conjunction with article 83 paragraph 1 of the Law No.18/2013 on the eradication and prevention of forest destruction. Meanwhile, Kanten would be charged under Article 12 paragraph 1 of article 87 C of the Law No.81/2013. The suspect Pasek admitted to have purchased the wood at IDR 180,000. “However, from the calculation of the ranger, the state losses incurred due to such action is IDR 720,000,” said Nirman. Meanwhile, Kanten claimed that she only picked up the fagots of firewood and then collected in the forest. “Because there was a resident wishing to purchase her firewood, she then sold it,” said Kanten at her home. In the year 2013, the sharia banking had been generating assets of approximately USD 1.6 trillion. In the year 2016, it was expected to reach over USD 2 trillion. “In Indonesia, the development occurs in financial sector and capital markets have become a part of the financial industry. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.
