Though the arrival of Japanese tourists after the earthquake and tsunami declined, the Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) of Bali Chapter noted that many Japanese spent their holidays to the Island of the Gods to avoid the threat of nuclear radiation. Chairman of PHRI Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, said though his party did not receive a report on definite amount of Japanese tourists coming to Bali, he had confidence if the Japanese tourist visit to Bali was still high. “Now, there is a tendency if they come to Bali for longer stay as they worry about the radiation threat. On that account, they come to Bali not as tourists but they want to stay longer in Bali because they have a family or friend in Bali. It is a new trend,” he said. The man who has nickname Cok Ace predicted if the rate of Japanese tourist visit to Bali this year would drop by some 10 percent if compared to last year. So far, the Japanese tourist visit to Bali quantitatively perched on top three, though decreased since 2008 due to global crisis. He hoped the circle of tourism industry could work on more seriously to take advantage of the special

interest tourism market to re-attract Japanese tourists to Indonesia especially Bali that had dropped recently. “We do hope the tourism entrepreneurs to make a breakthrough in handling special interest tourism segment of Japanese citizens. Special products can be offered to restore their arrival such as spas, golf, honeymoon tours, and others,” he said. PHRI also appealed the hotels not to charge cancellation fees for foreign tourists from Japan. “We will not give sanction to hotels remaining to charge a cancellation fee to the Japanese tourists. But as a manifestation of solidarity, we must provide special services to Japanese tourists,” he said. Under normal conditions, cancellation of room rate per night was charged a penalty of 30-50 percent. However, due to current conditions was beyond human capability, Bali tourism component should provide services that did not harm the Japa-

nese tourists. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Bali Tourism Board (BTB), Ngurah Wijaya, said that decline in Japanese tourists had really started to appear since 2009. Previously, the annual arrival of Japanese tourists to Bali reached 400,000 people, while since 2010 it declined to approximately 300,000 people. Apparently, this decline would continue. “We are optimistic. Despite a decline in the level of Japanese tourist visit to Bali, the target of 2.6 million tourists visit by the end of this year can be reached. Meanwhile, tourists visit from other countries such as Australia, China, Singapore, Malaysia and European continue to increase,” he said. Based on the data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of Japanese tourist visit to Bali amounted to 359,824 people in 2008, then 333,905 people in 2009, and in 2010 reached a total of 245,040 people. Both Sri Wahyuni and Anggreni stated that discipline against those children could not be carried out simply by arresting and then returning them to their homes. Conventional method like this would only lead to prolonged fatigue without any expected results. They recommended bringing those children to an institution and then give them intensive guidance. Bali to Host UNESCO Cultural Heritage Conference DENPASAR - Bali will host the 6th Inter-Governmental Committee for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO (ICG-ICH-UNESCO) to be held on the island in November 2011. The State news agency Antara confirmed that Indonesia will join the assessment team that will review intangible heritages sites nominated from 142 countries worldwide. Last year, Indonesian nominated the textile tradition of batik and the West Javanese angklung for inclusion in the UNESCO lists. This

year, Indonesia has nominated Balinese traditional dance, Noken woven bags from Papua and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah Cultural Park in Jakarta. The latest three nominations saw Balinese dance nominated as an intangible cultural heritage; Noken woven bags from Papua as a handicraft tradition in urgent need of safeguarding and Taman Mini Indonesia as an example of best practice in cultural heritage preservation. Indonesia is also seeking UNESCO recognition of Bali’s rice Jatiluwuh terraces and the Saman dance from Aceh.

Deplored, demolition of old buildings in Buleleng Harbor Singaraja (Bali Post)—

Some residents deplored the demolition of a row of old buildings that would be used for location of the Singaraja Convention Center (SCC) project in the area of Buleleng Harbor. Demolition of those historic buildings was assessed as measures to eliminate the traces of past greatness ever experienced by Singaraja City. Wawan, a local resident, who loved to see the old building in Buleleng Harbor, admitted to feel sad if the building was finally destroyed. And so far, the history on the greatness of Singaraja City was precisely reflected in the existence of the old buildings. Dismantling of those old buildings made history disappear. “Formerly, Singaraja was known as a famous harbor city. Even, the first tourists coming to Bali were through the old harbor. Now, why is it dismantled?” asked Wawan claiming to come from Singaraja but he is now studying in Bandung, West Java. As reported previously, the demolition of old buildings in west area of Buleleng Harbor had relation to the plan of Buleleng Regency to host a world festival namely the International Mask Arts & Culture Organization (IMACO) in November 2011. To facilitate the festival, Buleleng Regency established a world class

building for international convention that would be used for the venue of conference in the festival. The fund allocated for the building project amounted to IDR 3.5 billion. On the other hand, the building construction itself was estimated to complete late and it was feared it could not have been accomplished until the implementation of festival next November. So far, the project just entered the phase of dismantling the old buildings. Deputy Regent of Buleleng, Arga Pynatih, said the demolished old building was not included in the heritage area (old building preservation area). In the harbor area, there was only one building belonging to Pelni considered as a heritage. It remained to be preserved and used for exhibition space. Even so, Arga said the convention building constructed would remain to pay attention to the style of those old buildings. How-

ever, the design of the building could not be the same as the dismantled old buildings. “Its design cannot be the same as the old buildings as they have no windows,” he said. According to Arga, the Rights to Build (HGB) of the old building were still held by a number of residents. However, the rights to build of some other buildings had been a released so the dismantling works could be begun. “Some buildings whose HGB had terminated are demolished,” he said. Arga Pynatih expressed his optimism that the conference building project could be completed in September 2001. However, he claimed to still prepare a backup location for the implementation of mask art world conference held in November 2011. The measure was taken to anticipate if the conference building could not have been completed until November. “We set up the reserves at Banyualit,” he said. (kmb15)

When they were crossing major building, they heard small blast and checked it. They conceded seeing flames in one of computer then they quickly took extinguish equipment. But when they got back, the computer room had filled by huge flames and fumes. “They were escaping from the building,” said Bambang. Related with this incident, Bambang confessed, his team had reported it to the Marine and Fishery Ministry while central government had instructed to them to count their loss. In the other side the Head of Operation Jembrana Police, Commandant Nyoman Wirya Sucipta who had been met in the location said he had asked help from forensic laboratory team Bali Police to investigate the burn cause. “For a while we only did crime scene. For the details forensic laboratory team will work for it,” said him.

Washington - President Obama kicked off his 2012 reelection campaign today just when Washington is in the middle of a heated budget debate. Congress and the White House may now be tempted to turn that debate into issues for voters to decide in another 20 months rather than settle them sooner. That would be a mistake. Washington can’t afford to dawdle on its spending plans. Since the fiscal year began last October, Congress still has not passed a federal budget, surviving instead on interim funding agreements. The latest stop-gap measure is set to expire at midnight on Friday April 8. Now, a deal for the rest of the fiscal year is in reach. Lawmakers should seal it and move on to the much more important spending decisions for next year and beyond. These decisions may appear to be about dollars and cents, but they are really about the role of government in encouraging opportunity and economic growth while

at the same time looking out for the nation’s most vulnerable citizens. This sounds like a question for 2012, and undoubtedly it will be. But it was also a big issue in the 2010 elections, and that means lawmakers can start making hard decisions now. Otherwise, others might make the decisions for them. As the debt debacle in Europe shows, the financial markets are unpredictable. But when they pounce, their attack is fierce, forcing up interest rates – a damper on economic growth. With America’s swelling deficits and debt, the country is increasingly vulnerable to just such a scenario. It will take time and compromise for Republicans and Democrats to agree on a deficit reduction plan. If they wait until a presidential winner and new Congress to start work in January 2013, that may be too late. Various budget plans are now starting to take shape. On Tuesday, the head of the House Budget Committee, Republican Paul Ryan, is expected to unveil a blueprint for 2012 that would cut more than $4 trillion over 10 years.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Detainees set fire to a Malaysian immigration center and about 100 of them escaped as the blaze partially gutted the facility, officials said Tuesday. Authorities recaptured 30 of the 109 detainees who broke out of the camp in central Negri Sembilan state late Monday, said Home Ministry official Mohamed Asri Yusof. Most were from Myanmar. Officials were unsure how the detainees managed to start a blaze. About 1,000 other detainees remain in custody, and no injuries were immediately reported, Mohamed Asri said. The fire and escape could refocus attention on conditions at

detention centers. Activists have long said such facilities are overcrowded with detainees awaiting deportation after being arrested for illegally entering Malaysia or overstaying. The national news agency, Bernama, quoted state deputy police chief Abdul Manan Mohamad Hassan as saying that some detainees had been at the center for up to a year. “Investigations show that they were dissatisfied with what they perceived as cramped living conditions, the food and long detention periods,” he said. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Kussa Lockerbie meeting ‘within days’: Scottish govt Agence France Presse

LONDON – Scottish officials investigating the Lockerbie bombing will interview defected Libyan foreign minister Mussa Kussa within “the next few days”, the country’s Crown Office confirmed Monday. Scottish detectives and prosecutors met with officials from the Foreign Office (FCO) officials earlier Monday after making a formal request to speak to Kussa about the 1988 incident last week. “We can confirm that representatives of the Crown Office and Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary met with FCO officials this afternoon to discuss the situation concerning Kussa and specifically to discuss access to Kussa,” a spokesman for the Scottish government department said. “It was a very positive meeting and steps are being taken with a view to arranging a meeting with Kussa at the earliest opportunity in the next few days,” added the

spokesman. Libyan agent Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet al-Megrahi is the only man convicted over the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie in December 1988, which killed 270 people. The Boeing 747 jet was en route from London to New York when it exploded over the Dumfriesshire town. As a senior figure in Kadhafi’s regime, Kussa is suspected of involvement in the bombing.

The tabloid’s royal correspondent Clive Goodman was jailed in 2007 for conspiracy to access mobile phone messages involving Princes William and Harry. Many of those “radiation refugees” have grown frustrated with the mandatory 12-mile (20-kilometer) no-go zone, and plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. — whose stock value has plunged to its lowest level ever — said Tuesday it would give affected towns 20 million yen ($240,000) each. Also Tuesday, TEPCO announced that samples taken from seawater near one of the reactors contained 7.5 million times the legal limit for radioactive iodine on April 2. Two days later, that figure dropped to 5 million. Experts have said that radiation dissipates quickly in the vast Pacific, but they have also said that it’s unclear what the long-term effects of large amounts of contamination will be. No fishing is allowed in the vicinity of the complex. TEPCO said in a statement that even the large amounts would have “no immediate impact” on the environment but added that it is working to stop the leak as soon as possible. The readings were taken closer to the plant than before — apparently because new measuring points were added after the crack was discovered — and did not necessarily reflect a worsening of the contamination. Other measurements several hundred yards (meters) away from the plant have declined to levels about 1,000 times the legal limit — down from 4,385 times the legal limit last week. It also means means highly radioactive water is pooling throughout the plant, and some of it is making its way to the ocean. Workers are now desperately trying to find a place to store it because it is preventing them from restoring normal cooling systems. Starting late Monday, they have been pumping more than 3 million gallons of less contaminated water into the sea in order to make room in a storage facility for the more highly radioactive water. That process is expected to take two days. The building is not meant to hold water, but it’s also not leaking, so engineers have decided that once it’s empty, they can pump in the moreradioactive water. Japan is seeking another method of decontamination from Russia. On Monday, a spokesman for the Russian nuclear agency Rosatom, Sergei Novikov, told reporters that Japan had requested Russia send it a vessel used to dispose of liquid nuclear waste from decommissioned submarines. Novikov said Moscow was awaiting the answers to some questions before granting the request. There are more than 15 million gallons of contaminated water pooling around the plant, Hidehiko Nishiyama, a spokesman for Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, said Tuesday. It’s not clear how much storage space is left at the plant, but the latest move should make room for about 2.6 million gallons in the waste storage building.

He added that volatility in the value of exports to Japan was estimated to have been caused by commodity demands in previous month. In addition, the export destination to Japan was possibly beyond the territories affected by tsunami disaster. Value of the statue handicraft export of Gianyar to Japan would possibly plummet. Another story told of this Pejeng nekara as the ear-plug of Kebo Iwa, a powerful legendary figure who was able to carve Goa Gajah, steep bank temple of Gunung Kawi, etc. The Pejeng nekara has been introduced internationally by G.E. Rumphius, an expert in Biology through his book Amboinsche Rariteitkamer, published in 1705. Although he never been to Bali, but he had succeeded for using the information from Hendrik Leydekereker ’s. In fact, this nekara is a giant nekara with large size in every detail as in height of

186.5 m and a diameter of 1.60 m for its hit zone. Around the archeological experts, this nekara is also called as nekara with head, because it has four pairs of mask decoration with bulged-out eyes, long-coned nose, and the ears wearing earrings made from coins. The decoration of the mask is not only functioned as esthetic-decorative, but more for magical symbolism for the ancestors’ symbol of magic power which bring prosperity and protect the family or the society from any danger. Another decoration which has the magical symbolism is the decoration of octagonal star on the hit zone, border design, feather, and so on. “Bulan Pejeng” is a masterpiece work of technology and metallurgy that reached its peak on Bronze Age. This cultural heritage is a significant mixture between modern and complicated metal technology and art creativity which full magical symbolism values as can be seen from its shape and patterns. All of it is the proof of a local Balinese wisdom in its spectacular work about 2000 years ago, far before India reached Bali. The dynamism of Balinese wisdom at that time also was proved by finding five stone moulds in Manuaba Village, Gianyar for making smaller nekara from Pejeng nekara. This fact has proved enough that Balinese people had succeeded in developing local metal industry. Clay mould for making arrow head also has been found in West Java. In ad-

dition, Balinese people had produced a stone nekara which is kept in a temple in Carangsari Village (Badung), is now another success of Balinese wisdom. The other bronze nekara in Pacung, Ularan (Buleleng), Ban (Karangasem), Manikliyu (Bangli), Peguyangan (Badung) is a proof that local metal industry in Bali reached its top. According to the results of archeological research can be known that at Bronze Age, megalithic tradition was also developed around the world. The archeological experts have a notion that Bali was inhabited by megalithic society who lived by farming, stayed in organized village, and ruled by a well-respected figure. DENPASAR - Bali officials, tourism workers and representatives from Bali’s Japanese community gathered at the sacred Uluwatu Temple on Saturday, April 2, 2011, to pray for Japan’s speedy recovery from its recent earthquake and tsunami disaster. “Pray for Japan” was led by Pedanda Siwa Ida Pedanda Jelatik Giri of Griya Gunung Sari – Ubud, Pedanda Budha Ida Pedanda Gede Putra from Griya Tegal Jingga Sumerta and Honka ka Tanaka a Shinto priest attending from Japan. Performed at the Uluwatu temples because of its religious significance to the Balinese and it’s physical connection to land and the ocean, the prayer ceremony lasted 30 minutes. Bali’s governor Made Mangku Pastika ,who attended the “Pray for Japan” event, said that Bali’s relationship with Japan is not limited to only tourism, explaining that following the 2002 and 2005 Bali bombings the Japanese actively assisted the people of Bali. Another community-based program of prayers and support for Japan will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Bajra Sandhi Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Bali in Renon starting at 5 p.m.. The 2.5 hour long program will include dances presented by the ISI Bali, speeches by Dr. Tjok Oka Aryja Ardhana Sukawati-the regent of Gianyar and chairman of the event, and Made Mangku Pastika - the governor of Bali. Ayu Laksmi will perform and prayers will be offered by representatives from all the main religious faiths freely practiced. A Shinto priest attending from Japan will also participate in the prayer service. The evening will end with a candlelight vigil at 7:30 and the singing of “Imagine” and “Heal the World.” Participants are asked to wear traditional dress in the color of white, bring their own candles and arrive at the park by 4:30 pm. The event organized by the Committee of Love and Friendship for Japan is open to the public without charge.

Secondly, prepare the spices by grinding them well, too. Take the tender tuna flesh, ground spices, salt, palm sugar and then mix them together evenly. Thirdly, take a stalk of lemongrass and some flesh batter. Twist the batter around the lemongrass skewer while pressing. Do the same until the batter runs out. Ultimately, cook the satay by grilling over a hot fire or charcoal embers. Attempt to make it cooked at all sides. Do not leave them unattended! WASHINGTON – The United States will hit the legal limit on its ability to borrow no later than May 16, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Monday, ramping up pressure on Congress to act to avoid a debt default. “The longer Congress fails to act, the more we risk that investors here and around the world will lose confidence in our ability to meet our commitments and our obligations,” Geithner said in a letter to congressional leaders. “Default by the United States is unthinkable.” Previously, the Treasury had forecast that the $14.3 trillion statutory debt limit would be reached between April 15 and May 31. As of Friday, Treasury borrowing stood just $95 billion from the ceiling. Some Republican lawmakers have sought to use the need to raise the debt limit as a lever to pressure the Obama administration into agreeing on largescale budget cuts. The debt-limit showdown comes as Congress struggles to complete a spending package that would keep the government operating beyond Friday. Republicans are seeking to use that bill to enact deep spending cuts and lawmakers are focusing on a proposal to trim this year’s budget by $33

billion, a relatively small amount compared with a projected $1.4 trillion deficit. Geithner said a failure to raise the debt ceiling in a timely way would push interest rates higher and spark “a financial crisis potentially more severe than the crisis from which we are only starting to recover.” Both Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke have said a failure to raise the ceiling could have “catastrophic consequences.” As the government nears the debt ceiling, the Treasury has authority to take certain extraordinary measures to postpone the date the United States would default on its obligations. However, those actions would be exhausted after about eight weeks and there would be “no headroom” to borrow after July 8, Geithner said. Some lawmakers have called for legislation to force the Treasury to first pay interest on U.S. bonds before other obligations, such as unemployment benefits and Social Security and Medicare payments, as a way to stave off a debt default.

They have also asked Treasury whether financial assets such as the country’s gold reserves or the government’s portfolio of student loans could be sold to avoid raising the debt ceiling. Treasury has rejected the proposals as unworkable. “To attempt a fire sale of financial assets in an effort to buy time for Congress to act would be damaging to financial markets and the economy and would undermine confidence in the United States,” Geithner said. Based on estimates last year from the International Monetary Fund, U.S. debt as measured against the size of the economy is higher than in France, Canada and Germany, but less than in Italy and Japan Geithner said that while the debt ceiling projections could change, the Obama administration does not believe they could change in a way that would give Congress more time to raise the debt ceiling. He said Treasury would provide updated projections in early May.

To y o t a M o t o r Corp., the world’s largest automaker, slid 2.4 percent after the company said Monday it will temporarily shut down all of its North American factories because of parts shortages. The temporary shutdowns are likely to take place later this month, affecting 25,000 workers, but no layoffs are expected, the company said. Honda Motor Corp. dropped 2.5 percent, and Nissan Motor Corp. slumped 2.2 percent. “The disruption to Japanese supply chains is beginning to become apparent. Honda is slowing its North American production, but it also announced it will resume homeland production in two weeks,” Bank of America Merrill Lynch said in a report, adding that Nissan was cutting output in China by 10 percent. Elsewhere, South Korea’s Kospi index rose 0.7 percent to 2,130.43. Australia’s S&P/ ASX 200 rose 0.3 percent to 4,899.80. Benchmarks in Singapore and New Zealand were also higher. His condition has since deteriorated and he is now on a ventilator and is receiving kidney dialysis, the most recent health bulletin from the

hospital late on Monday evening said. “The vital systems are not adequately responding. The condition of Baba is critical. The panel of doctors treating him are doing their best to make the systems respond,” said hospital director A.N. Safaya in a statement. Thousands of followers have begun arriving in Puttaparthi, in southeastern Andhra Pradesh state, with many agitated by conflicting information given out by local authorities. GENEVA – The depletion of the ozone layer shielding Earth from damaging ultraviolet rays has reached an unprecedented low over the Arctic this spring because of harmful chemicals and a cold winter, the U.N. weather agency said Tuesday. The Earth’s fragile ozone layer in the Arctic region has suffered a loss of about 40 percent from the start of winter until late March, exceeding the previous seasonal loss of about 30 percent, the World Meteorological Organization said.

BAIKONUR, Kazakhstan – Three astronauts on Tuesday blasted off for the International Space Station in a spaceship named after the first man in space Yuri Gagarin in honour of his historic flight 50 years ago. The two Russians and one American left on a Soyuz rocket from the main launchpad at Russia’s Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the same location where Gagarin went on his historic space mission on April 12, 1961. The flight in the early hours of the morning left a bright beam of light against the background of the clear starry sky over the vast Kazakh steppe, an AFP correspondent reported. Their mission has been dedicated to Gagarin’s flight — which gave the Soviet Union its greatest Cold War victory over the United

States — and their Soyuz capsule is named after and even inscribed with the name of the cosmonaut. “The flight is normal,” mission control told the crew, who waved and gave the thumbs-up sign to a camera relaying images from the capsule back to Earth. Cosmonauts Alexander Samokutyaev and Andrei Borisenko are making their first space flight while US astronaut Ronald Garan is making his second mission, having already flown on US shuttle Discovery in 2008. “We are feeling good,” said the voice of one of the crew, apparently flight commander Samokutyaev. “I wish you success and a good flight,” said the head of Russia’s space agency, Anatoly Perminov. Indonesian government grateful for FIFA support Reuters

JAKARTA - FIFA’s decision to remove power from the chaotic Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has been warmly received by the southeast Asian country’s government. Soccer’s world governing body said on Monday they would appoint a normalisation committee to run the PSSI and organise presidential elections by May 21 [ID:nLDE7331XL]. “The government warmly welcomes FIFA’s decision because it means the government and FIFA are in agreement,” Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng told local media on Tuesday. “As soon as the committee is formed, the government will facilitate it so it can work immediately and start preparing for the PSSI congress.” FIFA’s move came after weeks of protests against controversial PSSI head Nurdin Halid and his organisation’s failure to stop the popular breakaway Indonesian Pre-

mier League (LPI) which was started in January by local oil tycoon Arifin Panigoro. FIFA said the PSSI had lost all credibility in Indonesia and were not in a position to control the current crisis. our car uses its tyres, so a major part of the analysis has focussed on looking at our one-lap performance, when compared to long run performance in the race. “In addition, we have looked at that other important factor, aerodynamics, to see in which areas we can unlock more of the car’s potential. The results of all these studies have provided us with the basis of a test programme which we will be working through in Malaysia.” Fry said the team will have several new parts to test ahead of the upcoming races in the hope of closing the gap to the front of the field. “After analysing qualifying and race data from Melbourne, there are already things we plan to change and improve for Malaysia,” added Fry. “These will be added in to an already busy pre-planned test programme with further aerodynamic updates that were always planned for this race. “But we have also added a further three or four test items and probably there will be even more new parts to test arriving in the few days between the Malaysia and China races. It’s a case of constant development throughout the season.”

Rossi had made rapid progress from 11th on the grid on the wet track, but fell when challenging Stoner for second place and knocked the Honda over in the process. The former champion said he had simply outbraked himself and dodged to the inside hoping to miss Stoner. “When I arrived behind Stoner, I didn’t want to overtake him in the moment of braking, but I braked a bit too deep compared to him, and I arrived too fast and I didn’t have enough room to go on the outside so I tried to go on the inside to make less problems for both of us but unfortunately I lost the front and I also took him out,” said Rossi. “It’s completely my mistake and I have to say sorry to Casey. I know that he’s very angry because he didn’t make any mistakes. I went straight to say sorry.” When Rossi apologised to Stoner in the Honda pit afterwards, television cameras caught the Australian asking Rossi about the health of his injured shoulder and suggesting his ‘ambition outweighed his talent’. Rossi laughed off his rival’s comments. “I don’t know, maybe he doesn’t know exactly who I am!” Rossi said to Italia1 television. “But it’s okay, it’s fair enough, he’s angry and I

It’s since the beginning of last year that I’ve not had this feeling. This made me optimistic.”
