Flea may have kept his pants on when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were onstage during the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show, but he did noticeably leave his cord hanging. After getting called out for more or less playing air bass on Sunday, the veteran musician took to his blog today to explain why he didn’t plug in for the band’s performance at MetLife Stadium. “When we were asked by the NFL and [headliner Bruno Mars] to play our song ‘Give It Away’ at the Super Bowl, it was made clear to us that the vocals would be live, but the bass, drums, and guitar would be pre-recorded,” Flea wrote in a post on the Chili Peppers’ website. “I understand the NFL’s stance on this, given they only have a few minutes to set up the stage, there a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound for the folks watching in the stadium and the t.v. viewers. There was not any room for argument on this, the NFL does not want to risk their show being botched by bad sound, period.” The NFL and Fox did, however, allow this year’s halftime performers to show all the nipple they wanted. He issues a moratorium but he wants the reclamation that will clearly has tourist accommodation and so does the Grand Forest Park (Tahura), everything is messy. In the past, the leaders still wanted to listen to, although not all of them. Today, they are unruly,” he said in Denpasar. Gelebet also called the governor was too much cheated by the investors as well as those who claimed themselves an expert. Based on the results of his study with some international experts in 1994, it was found that Benoa Bay would be useless for tourist attraction without cruise ships. However, the cruise ship dock could not be realized there due to a hole at Benoa Bay resembling the Bermuda Triangle. Gelebet said there were a lot of boats and speedboats missing in the hole when the tide was low.
“Then, it is also supported by local haunted nature. Well, this one is difficult to explain scientifically. Each year, there are definitely people drowned at the location. If they are not missing, at least they are sucked and submerged. If it is only intended for tourist attraction without cruise ship, it will be useless. DENPASAR - The flood disaster occurred all this time in Denpasar tends to be caused by the damage to a number of conduits. Some few existing conduits are closed when residents have construction works. Even, some developers deliberately narrow the conduits, so it then triggers floods. On that account, to prevent floods in a region, people are expected not to narrow the existing conduit especially in residential areas. It was conveyed by the member of Commission B of the Denpasar House, I Wayan Kariarta, in his office, Tuesday (Feb 4). He admitted when the conduits in Denpasar were managed well, the threat of flood would not occur. Unfortunately, many people were suspected of doing deduction and even elimination to the existing conduit. As a result, when the rainy season arrived, floods regularly occurred. “We see a lot of housing complexes that do not have adequate drainage,” he said. He said the municipal government should also re-arrange the existing drainage in Denpasar to prevent floods. Then, all disposal drainages should lead to the existing stream. If this could be done, his party had confidence it could reduce the threat of floods in Denpasar. “When the drainage setting in Denpasar runs properly, it will not surely be hit by floods. This city is surrounded by rivers, so it is less likely to be threatened by floods,” he explained. Meanwhile, the Head of Denpasar Public
Works, I Ketut Winarta, said that his party had made a number of flood control activities in this culture-based city. One of them was by the arrangement of drainage. In Denpasar, the drainage arrangement was divided into five systems with parent conduit led to four rivers and an irrigation channel. “Denpasar is passed through by three major rivers and several small streams, so they can be used for disposal drainage,” said Winarta. Winarta admitted the matter of flooding in Denpasar was still triggered by the behavior of some residents who did not pay attention to the conduits. As proof, some few people still disposed rubbish into the river. Such condition triggered floods when the volume of river water increased and was not channeled properly as clogged by rubbish. In addition, his party also acknowledged that some developers deliberately narrowed the existing conduits. “Behavior of the residents also often triggers the emergence of flood disaster,” he explained. TABANAN - Heavy rain flushing the area of Bedugul, Baturiti, almost claimed casualties. Two vehicles in the garage at Ulun Danu Beratan tourist area were almost washed away by floods. No casualties were reported in the disaster. However, the material losses were large enough. A number of tourist facilities at the verge of the lake were damaged. Rush of water resembling flash flood was triggered by the overflow of a small river in the north side of the Ulun Danu. Around 08:00 a.m., the water overflowed as the river was clogged by waste materials. By all means, the water flow stalled and then hit the Ulun Danu tourist area ranging from the temple area to the park. Even, two vehicles parked in the garage were almost brought by the flood. “The water is very huge and carrying rubbish. Two vehicles in the garage were almost washed away,” said Operations Manager of the Ulun Danu Beratan tourist attraction, Wayan Mustika, Tuesday (Feb 4). This man explained the floodwater had surprised the employees of the Ulun Danu. Moreover, there was no indication in advance. Luckily, his party moved fast. Once the flood
appeared, his party with community leaders and employees were trying to clean up the rubbish that clogged the small stream. In fact, the effort worked. Having been struggling for few hours for getting rid of the rubbish, the floodwater could be overcome. However, a number of facilities were damaged, including the landscaping garden. Some ornamental plants were also damaged. As a result, the beauty of the park was harmed. Rubbish that clogged the river was originating from tree debris brought by floods from the upstream. The disaster was considered quite serious this year. Typically, the flood was only triggered by the overflowing water of the lake. Today, the floods even came from the upstream accompanied with waste materials. It had not been known about the losses due to such disaster. “We are still focusing on cleaning up the rubbish, so the comfort of travelers will not be harmed,” said Mustika. Fortunately, by late morning, floodwater could have been resolved. He hoped the weather in Bedugul area could be getting better so there would be no subsequent floods. Joint team dismantles expired billboards Bali Post
DENPASAR - The measures of arranging the outdoor billboards in the form of pamphlets, banners and billboards remain to continue. A joint team consisting of the municipal police, the Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (DKP) and Spatial Planning and Housing Agency (DTRP) dismantled again some billboards on Jalan Teuku Umar, Tuesday (Feb 4). Permit of the billboards dismantled has expired, so it has been declared to no longer have permit. The Regulation Enforcement Division Head of the Municipal Police, Wayan Wirawan, when met on the sidelines of policing said the billboard demolition at this time was continuation of the previous one. The discipline continued in accordance with the expiration of the existing billboard permit. He said that permit of some billboards had expired. His party had told the owners to dismantle theirs. However, some owners even did not want to heed the reprimand letter filed by municipal police. Therefore, the team directly conducted the demolition. “This billboard demolition has actually been informed to the owner,” said Wirawan. Initially the team disciplined a billboard
belonging to cellular phone store, namely the BTC. The billboard only containing the name of the store was taken down by the officers. In addition, the team also set down a smaller size billboard owned by a food stall. “Today (Tuesday—Ed) we dismantle three billboards whose permit has expired,” added the Investigation Section Head of the Municipal Police, I Gusti Alit Artika. Billboard demolition in Denpasar was the follow up after the issuance of the moratorium policy at 24 points of road section. The Spatial Plan and HousingAgency (DTRP) had compiled the billboard zoning arrangement which would be used as reference for installing new billboards. Moratorium on the billboard in Denpasar referred to the Mayoral Regulation No.14/2013 concerning with the Provisional Delay of Billboard Permit in the city of Denpasar. On the other hand, the Head of the DTRP Denpasar, I Gede Cipta Sudewa, said the current zoning drafting of the advertisement zonation had just completed for six points of road section. Archipelago International holds workshop CHA certifications IBP
JAKARTA – Setting their standards to internationally high levels, Archipelago International recently held a training workshop for their General Managers and Hotel Managers, so that each professional gains the globally recognized CHA® certification, awarded by the prestigious American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute (AHLEI). CHA® is the most prestigious certification available to a hotel General Manager (GM) or Hospitality Executive. Globally recognized, the CHA® is a highly respected professional credential that validates a GMs advanced knowledge in the hospitality industry. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

After a long succession of mobile mishaps, he has delivered the portable Facebook app I’ve always wanted… and there’s hardly any evidence that Paper is a Facebook product. Upon opening the app for the first time you’re greeted with a shimmering Paper logo set in Helvetica Neue UltraLight, the opposite of the bold, white logo Facebook has used since 2005. It’s a fresh start, and it could be just what the company needed.

The iWatch may cost $299 when it launches later this year, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said in a note to investors on Tuesday (via CNET), a price that’s exactly what Samsung initially charged for its first-generation Galaxy Gear and similar to the Pebble’s second smartwatch, the Pebble Steel. However, the iWatch is expected to be even more popular than its competitors’ offerings and it may indeed me the “next big thing” for Apple. “Our working assumption is that iWatch largely will be adopted as an accessory device and, therefore, sold into the existing customer base, like the iPad, rather than to new customers, like the iPod or iPhone,” Huberty wrote. Huberty further noted that the iWatch could become a significant revenue stream for Apple, bringing in as much as $17.5 billion in the first year – at $299 each, that would mean Apple would have to sell well over 58 million units during the period. At the same time, the analyst said that due to potential component constraints, Apple may only generate from $12 billion to $14 billion in revenue in its first year of selling the iWatch. In case such a scenario would play out, the iWatch would be more successful in its first year than the iPad’s and iPhone’s first years combined. The iPad generated $12 billion in sales in its first year, while the first-gen iPhone brought in $2.5 billion in revenue.

Erlangga Mantik said the initiative to establish a holding company of regional enterprise was a great breakthrough. However, the plan needed to be elaborated further in relation to its future prospect because it was often theoretically good, but the implementation in the field was contradictory to the theory. “When viewed nationally, many state-owned enterprises face problems. Probably, only 20-25 percent of them give profits, 50 percent gets return of investment, while the remaining ones suffer losses so they continue to receive an injection of funds from the government, for instance, the state-owned airline and clothing company that do not bring in the economic benefits,” he said. He explained, in the implementation, many regional enterprises faced obstacles because in terms of legal basis contained in the Government Regulation No.25/2000 and the implementation basis of the regional enterprise mentioned in Article 33 of the Constitution 1945 stated that the regional enterprise had to prioritize the community interest and needs. “Right, one of the objectives of the asset management is providing maximum benefits for the community. However, it is theoretically opposing to the Government Regulation No.25/2000. On the one hand, the regional enterprise is established to become a source of revenue, but the other clause mentions the enterprise is meant to provide services for the community and others,” he said. SEMARAPURA - Avian influenza caused by the H5N1 virus spreads back at Banjarangkan village, Banjarangkan subdistrict, last week. It was known after a resident was suspected to suffer bird flu following a direct contact with poultry that died suddenly. Meanwhile, the results of rapid test by Klungkung Livestock, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (PPK) indicated if the chicken was positively infected by the avian influenza virus. The resident suspected of suffering bird flu named Ketut Wardana, 40. As information of his family on Tuesday (Feb 4), previously there were dozens of chicken and people’s livestock that suddenly died. At that time, Ketut Wardana had direct contact with the chicken when wishing to dispose them without using any kind of protection. As a result, on the following day Wardana suffered a high fever and was treated at the Banjarangkan Health Center I before finally was referred to Sanglah Hospital. In Sanglah Hospital, Wardana was stated to be a suspect of bird flu. Meanwhile, the result of rapid test by PPK Klungkung with Banjarangkan Health Center I, Monday (Feb 3) stated that the chickens suddenly died were positive to bird flu. His daughter, Wiwin, 14, admitted that her parent sold chicken and broilers every day. As a result, her father and mother had contact with poultry every day. In addition, her father also often grilled chicken for sale by her mother. Each day, the chickens were brought in directly from Bangli County delivered directly pursuant to the amount of order. SINGARAJA - The plan to cut out the collapsed concrete floor of the fish jetty (PPI) at Pabean hamlet, Sangsit village, seemingly cannot be realized immediately. This happens because the tidal waves are still engulfing the waters at the PPI Sangsit and surrounding areas. Against such condition, the Buleleng Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) delayed the cutting of the concrete floor until the sea weather returned to normal. Chief of the BPBD Buleleng, Putu Dana, said in his office on Tuesday (Feb 4) the cutting of concrete dock floor staying fused with the iron frame could not be done if the tide was still engulfing the waters in the PPI. To that end, his party with the Public Works and the Fisheries and Maritime Affairs had agreed to wait until the ocean waves returned to normal to cut out the collapsed concrete dock floor. To support the cutting of the concrete floor, his party would use the allocation of emergency fund provided by local government. “If the tidal waves are still going on, we cannot work. Based on coordination with the BPBD, Public Works as well as the Fishery and Maritime Affairs, we agree to wait until the waves turn normal to cut out the remaining collapsed dock floor,” he said. Based on observation at the PPI Sangsit, the ocean waves and strong winds still hit the waters in the region. Brunt of tidal waves continued to hit the piles of the intact dock floor. Even, the broken dock floor was occasionally rocking due to the wave ferocity. For this condition, residents worried if the remaining dock floor
would be dragged down because it was not strong enough to hold the brunt of tidal waves. Meanwhile, activity in the PPI was closed and there was only a pile of fresh fish
boxes stacked at the edge of the dock. The voyage of vessel from Madura would be re-opened when the weather was getting better. Similarly, the fishermen boats
were pulled away from the beach to avoid any damage due to the brunt of tidal waves. Even, the vannamei shrimp farming pilot project by capital owners at the PPI Sangsit was also suspended due to bad weather. The workers commonly providing feed to vannamei shrimp in the middle of the ocean were taking day-off while repairing the equipment they used. As reported previously, the floor
along 31 meters at the dock of the PPI Sangsit collapsed on Monday night (Feb 2). The remaining dock floor along 29 meters from the south to the north was still intact. Collapse of the dock floor happened because the piles supporting the concrete floor were broken after hit by tidal wave as high as five meters. Due to the incident, the Fishery and Maritime Affairs suffered a loss of IDR 1 billion. (mud)

BANGLI - Arrears of the hotel and restaurant tax (PHR) in Bangli County until 2014 are still quite large. Most of them are local businessmen of Bangli. It was revealed by the Head of Bangli Revenue Service, Ketut Riang, Tuesday (Feb 4). He said the level of awareness of the employers running the business in hotel and restaurant in Kintamani stayed quite low. Though having teamed up with the District Attorney since 2013 in the matter of tax collection, there were still a number of
taxpayers who did not obey the rules until the second month of the year 2014. “Indeed, since we have been working with the District Attorney of Bangli to help collect taxes, some entrepreneurs have paid including by installment. But, there are still entrepreneurs having not paid the tax,” said Riang. He said the amount of hotel and restaurant tax arrears recorded in the Bangli Revenue Service account list, in fact, some of the arrears belonged to large and prominent hotels and restaurants. Most of the hotels and restaurants were located in the area of Penelokan, Kintamani. “Almost all the hotels and restaurants remaining to have not paid the taxes are owned by local businessmen. Meanwhile,
the entrepreneurs from outside Bangli are more obedient to pay taxes,” he said. More sadly, of the 67 hotels and restaurants in Bangli, one of which belonged to an individual of legislator namely the Gunawan Restaurant with the arrears reached IDR 144 million and Suling Bali Restaurant with arrears of IDR 194 million. The arrears had piled up since many years ago. So far, his party continued to collect these receivables. However, his party was frequently complicated by the restaurateurs. COMMUTERS are battling crowds and delays this morning as tube drivers begin their 48-hour walkout. Waterloo station was rammed with people desperately trying to get on a train, while the roads of London were rammed as workers took to driving to work. Many underground stations are closed with reduced services running on most lines. Desperate travellers tried to board overground trains instead but were hit by packed platforms and many had to wait for another train before being able to board. And buses were also packed, taking longer to reach their destinations with the roads already jammed. “Business groups have warned that the strikes will cost London’s economy tens of millions of pounds” The misery was piled even more as Londoners woke up to ice cold winds and heavy rain, while commuters trying to get home to east London on the District Line last night were hit with lengthy delays after a SWAN decided to set up camp on the tracks. Members of the RMT and TSSA unions walked out at 9pm last night for 48 hours in protest at the closure of all ticket offices, with the loss of 950 jobs. Picket lines were mounted across the capital today outside Tube stations, while the two sides in the dispute continued to argue over the ticket office closures. Politicians have condemned the industrial action, with Conservatives again calling for changes to employment laws covering the numbers voting for strikes in a ballot. London mayor Boris Johnson called the strike “pointless” and urged the unions to call it off and return to talks. LONDON - The Bank of England holds a policy meeting this week, with markets waiting to see if governor Mark Carney will alter guidance on lifting its record-low interest rate. The Monetary Policy Committee is widely expected to keep the BoE’s main interest rate at a record-low level of 0.50 percent. It is widely predicted also to maintain quantitative easing at ’375 billion ($613 billion, 454 billion euros), opting against following the US Federal Reserve in tapering stimulus. “While there is no realistic prospect of a change to the bank rate... attention will be focused on whether the committee makes a statement on its interest rate guidance,” said economist Philip Shaw at financial services firm Investec. He has also reminded that the parties participating in the elections had to uphold their pledge for following the rules under the prevailing laws during the elections. tions Supervisory Board to regulate it, Mokalu stated. “We have also mapped out the areas that are potentially vulnerable to security disruptions during the elections by referring to previous election data,” Mokalu noted. Manila - Philippine President Benigno Aquino has compared China’s efforts to claim disputed territories with those of Nazi Germany’s, while urging world leaders not to make the same mistake of appeasement, according to the New York Times. The Philippines has accused China of becoming increasingly aggressive in recent years in staking its claims to nearly all of the South China Sea, and Aquino reportedly said his nation could not stand up to its mightier neighbour alone. “At what point do you say: ‘Enough is enough’? Well, the world has to say it -— remember that the Sudetenland was given in an attempt to appease Hitler to prevent World War II,” the New York Times quoted Aquino as saying in a lengthy interview in Manila on Tuesday. Aquino was reportedly referring to the failure by Western nations to back Czechoslovakia when Adolf Hitlerled Nazi Germany occupied western parts of the European nation in 1938 ahead of World War II. The president’s spokespeople were not immediately available to comment on his interview with the New York Times. Aquino’s reported comments come less than two weeks after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe raised the temperature in a parallel territorial dispute with China by appearing
to compare Sino-Japanese relations with the run-up to World War I. Japan and China are at loggerheads over the sovereignty of disputed islands in the East China Sea, with paramilitary confrontations common as naval vessels and planes lurk in the background. China also claims nearly all of the South China Sea, one of the world’s most strategically important waterways as it is home to vital shipping lanes and believed to sit atop lucrative deposits of natural gas and oil. Later in the interview, he reportedly said: “You may have the might, but that does not necessarily make you right.”

Ten injured in Clacton street gas blast and fire Ten people were hurt in a gas explosion and fire in a residential street in Essex. The incident happened at about 08:30 GMT in Cloes Lane, Clacton. Five people were taken to hospital, including one with life-threatening injuries, Essex Fire Service said. Two houses were “flattened” and a third is seriously damaged. Eyewitness described the street “shaking” at the blast and a strong smell of gas. The fire began on Tuesday evening at some 1,700m (5,600 ft) below ground. Mr Duncan said rescue teams were struggling to access the affected area because of smoke and rock fall. INDONESIA Death toll of Mount Sinabung rises Antara
MEDAN - The death toll of Mount Sinabung eruption rose to 16, following the death of Doni Sembiring, 70, in Efarina Etaham Hospital, Kabanjahe, Karo District, North Sumatra province, early Wednesday. Doni Sembiring, who had been hospitalized for burn injuries since Saturday (Feb. 1), died at 3 a.m. local time on Wednesday, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNBP) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho sated in a text message. The only survivor of the Saturday eruption, Sehat Sembiring, 48, is currently being treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit. On Saturday (Feb. 1), the erupting volcano claimed several lives as it spewed clouds of hot and toxic ash that dispersed across Sukameriah village, which is located around three km from the volcano’s peak.
The hot clouds instantaneously killed 14 people and caused serious burn injuries to three others. Surya Sembiring, 24, one of the critically wounded victims succumbed to injuries in the hospital on Sunday. BNBP Chief Syamsul Maarif is currently leading a disaster mitigation effort in Karo to deal with the Sinabung eruption. A 200-member rescue team has been deployed to look for possible victims in Sukameriah village. However, the evacuation efforts are being carried out under the safety first principle as the volcano could still spew hot and toxic ash clouds any time.
On Tuesday (Feb. 4), the rescue team could not reach Sukameriah village because the volcano had erupted twice, spewing hot clouds. The hot clouds are deemed very dangerous as they reach temperatures as high as 700 degrees Celsius and their flow is recorded at a speed of up to 100 kms per hour. The authorities raised the alert status for Mount Sinabung to the highest level in November 2013. The government has declared the area lying within five-kilometer radius of the volcano’s peak as a danger zone. No one is allowed to enter the danger zone.

Expert believes ancient ship lies trapped in Kepayang Hill Antara
BAKAUHENI - An ancient ship was trapped inside Kepayang hill, south of Lampung province during the tsunami that hit the area following the eruption of mount Krakatau in 1883, according to an independent researcher Hadi Subroto. “A geoelectrical test has shown that there is an object, believed to be the hull of a ship, trapped inside Kepayang hill. According to the image detected after the test, the ship is in an upside down position with the hull at a height of 15 meters at least,” Hadi stated. According to him, a photo satellite and land analysis of the hill had been conducted earlier and the result indicated that there was a ship trapped inside Kepayang hill at the height of 155 meters above sea level. Over the years and due to several landslides, the body of the ship has moved down from the hill and it currently stands at 25 to 30 meters from the bottom of the hill. Hadi added that he had tried to manually dig a hole on Kepayang hill to reach the body of the trapped ship. “The excavation will take six months,” he explained. Meanwhile Secretary to Lampung province’s administration Sutono stated that the local government will fully support the research to find the body of the ship trapped inside Kepayang hill. “This research is important for Indonesia’s history and tourism,” he remarked. He pointed out that if the ship truly exists, the Lampung government plans to make Kepayang hill a cultural and archeological site.
Floods submerge parts of Jakarta Antara
JAKARTA - Floods triggered by incessant heavy rains since Tuesday evening, submerged 21 urban villages (“kelurahan”) in Jakarta on Wednesday morning. The number of flooded urban villages increased from 19 on Tuesday, to 21 on Wednesday, Head of the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation office (BPBD) Edy Junaedi Harahap stated. The floods have affected 96,593 people or 29,666 households in 21 urban villages across nine subdistricts. Some 16,135 people were displaced by the flooding. They were being accommodated in 62 emergency shelters set up throughout the capital city, he noted. In East Jakarta, the floods reached a height of about 30 cm to 250 cm, submerging six urban villages - Kampung Melayu, Bidara Cina, Cililitan, Cawang, Balekambang and Cipinang Melayu. Some 7,459 families consisting of 23,302 people were affected by the floods which displaced 4,932 people. In South Jakarta, the floods with depths of 10 cm -120 cm inundated eight urban villages - Rawajati, Pengadegan, Manggarai, Bukit Duri, Ke-
bon Baru, Pondok Pinang, Petogogan and East Pejaten. The flooding affected 2,806 households consisting of 11,162 people and displaced 2,499. In Central Jakarta, only Petamburan was flooded with water 60 cm high. In West Jakarta, six urban villages were flooded - Rawa Buaya, Duri Kosambi, Jelambar, North Kembangan, South Kedoya, Tegal Alur and Semanan. Some 19,401 households or 62,129 people were affected and 8,0704 others were displaced. North Jakarta was not flooded, BPBD Jakarta reported. On Tuesday, the local BPBD reported that 95,945 of its residents were affected by floods due to incessant rains in the capital city since Monday night until Tuesday morning. Based on data available with the BPBD, flood waters inundated 19 urban villages in nine subdistricts, affecting 487 neighborhoods (RTs) and 69 groups of neighborhoods (RWs) with victims reaching 95,942 people or 34,698 families (KKs). “Apart from that, a total of 14,308 victims were forced to evacuate to 51 locations across the capital city,” Edy Junaedi stated earlier.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The depleted Los Angeles Lakers received a boost Tuesday when Steve Nash and Steve Blake returned to the starting lineup against Minnesota. He told reporters after the morning shootaround that he’s anxious about how his back will hold up. “It’s a really tricky injury. I’m not going to take anything for granted. I’m just happy to get a chance to play tonight,” Nash said. Blake was in action for the first time since Dec. 10. He’s been out with a torn ligament in his right elbow. Fellow point guard Jordan Farmar, who hasn’t played since Dec. 31 due to a torn left hamstring, has been cleared to return, too. D’Antoni said his plan was to hold him out against the Timberwolves and play him against the Cavaliers, to compensate for Nash being back on the bench. Even with the presence of two key players, the bad luck popped up again for the reeling Lakers. Shooting guard Jodie Meeks, the rare player on the roster who has yet to miss a game this season, sprained his right ankle in the first quarter. Then power forward Jordan Hill departed in the second quarter due to a headache and cervical strain around the neck. The Lakers said neither of them would return to the game. Nash actually re-entered the game in the second quarter, already straying from D’Antoni’s previously announced plan. Before the game, the coach expressed the same apprehension about the veteran point guard that Nash did himself. “Anybody who hasn’t played very much in 10 months is going to have some rough spots,” D’Antoni said. “We’ll just have to see. Drivers think new Formula 1 cars ‘a bit too slow’ at the moment
Formula 1 drivers think that the new generation of cars are too slow at the moment, even if they are still hugely challenging to drive. The first experience of the turbo V6 machines at Jerez last week showed that although the new engines are still delivering plenty of horsepower, they are lacking in cornering speed.

That speed deficit has left a number of drivers worried that F1 has lost some of its sparkle. Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri handed vote of confidence
Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has handed coach Walter Mazzarri a vote of confidence despite his team’s winless run in 2014. The Nerazzurri lost 3-1 at Serie A leaders Juventus on Sunday to drop to sixth place and pile further pressure on Mazzarri. Reports in Italy claimed Inter were considering making a coaching change with Mazzarri, who joined the San Siro outfit last summer from Napoli, having won only eight of his 22 league games in charge and suffering a last-16 exit in the Coppa Italia. However, Thohir has vehemently denied those rumours and in a statement on the club’s official website said: “After the close of the January transfer window and the game in Turin, I feel it is appropriate for me to outline our sports strategy. “We are going through a transition year and our main aim is to lay the foundations for our future: this is a difficult season and clearly it is not easy to find another winning combination like the one we had a few years ago. “This is why we must be patient and move forward with a clear vision focusing on two basic concepts: how to improve our performance on the pitch and how to build our team for the future. “To achieve the first target we have hired one of the best Italian coaches in circulation, Walter Mazzarri, with whom we are working for the present and planning for the future.” Inter strengthened their team in the winter transfer market with the arrivals of Italian full-back Danilo D’Ambrosio from Torino and Brazilian midfielder Hernanes from Lazio. Xavi not planning to play in the Premier League Veteran midfielder Xavi has ruled out a move to the Premier League at the end of his career as Barcelona are his club. Xavi has spent his entire career at the Nou Camp and the 34-year-old recently made his 700th first-team appearance for Barcelona. He has regularly been linked with a switch to England, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United rumoured to have shown an interest. The Spain international has acknowledged that there have been times that he would have welcomed the opportunity to play in the Premier League. However, such is his devotion to Barcelona, that Xavi has conceded that he could never envisage leaving the Spanish champions to play for another club. “There was always talk United or Chelsea or City and Arsenal wanted to sign me but never anything concrete,” Xavi told The Sun. “My thinking was always
clear. I am such a Barcelona fan, so my first, second and third option is always Barca. “I never thought of leaving like Cesc Fabregas, who went to Arsenal. “I want to be here forever. Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri handed vote of confidence
Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has handed coach Walter Mazzarri a vote of confidence despite his team’s winless run in 2014. The Nerazzurri lost 3-1 at Serie A leaders Juventus on Sunday to drop to sixth place and pile further pressure on Mazzarri. Reports in Italy claimed Inter were considering making a coaching change with Mazzarri, who joined the San Siro outfit last summer from Napoli, having won only eight of his 22 league games in charge and suffering a last-16 exit in the Coppa Italia. However, Thohir has vehemently denied those rumours and in a statement on the club’s official website said: “After the close of the January transfer window and the game in Turin, I feel it is appropriate for me to outline our sports strategy. “We are going through a transition year and our main aim is to lay the foundations for our future: this is a difficult season and clearly it is not easy to find another winning combination like the one we had a few years ago. “This is why we must be patient and move forward with a clear vision focusing on two basic concepts: how to improve our performance on the pitch and how to build our team for the future. “To achieve the first target we have hired one of the best Italian coaches in circulation, Walter Mazzarri, with whom we are working for the present and planning for the future.” Inter strengthened their team in the winter transfer market with the arrivals of Italian full-back Danilo D’Ambrosio from Torino and Brazilian midfielder Hernanes from Lazio. Xavi not planning to play in the Premier League Veteran midfielder Xavi has ruled out a move to the Premier League at the end of his career as Barcelona are his club. Xavi has spent his entire career at the Nou Camp and the 34-year-old recently made his 700th first-team appearance for Barcelona. He has regularly been linked with a switch to England, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United rumoured to have shown an interest. The Spain international has acknowledged that there have been times that he would have welcomed the opportunity to play in the Premier League. However, such is his devotion to Barcelona, that Xavi has conceded that he could never envisage leaving the Spanish champions to play for another club. “There was always talk United or Chelsea or City and Arsenal wanted to sign me but never anything concrete,” Xavi told The Sun. “My thinking was always
clear. I am such a Barcelona fan, so my first, second and third option is always Barca. “I never thought of leaving like Cesc Fabregas, who went to Arsenal. “I want to be here forever. MINNEAPOLIS -- The depleted Los Angeles Lakers received a boost Tuesday when Steve Nash and Steve Blake returned to the starting lineup against Minnesota. Kobe Bryant, of course, isn’t ready yet because of persistent pain and swelling in his left knee. He told reporters after the morning shootaround that he’s anxious about how his back will hold up. “It’s a really tricky injury. I’m not going to take anything for granted. I’m just happy to get a chance to play tonight,” Nash said. Blake was in action for the first time since Dec. 10. He’s been out with a torn ligament in his right elbow. Fellow point guard Jordan Farmar, who hasn’t played since Dec. 31 due to a torn left hamstring, has been cleared to return, too. D’Antoni said his plan was to hold him out against the Timberwolves and play him against the Cavaliers, to compensate for Nash being back on the bench. Even with the presence of two key players, the bad luck popped up again for the reeling Lakers. Shooting guard Jodie Meeks, the rare player on the roster who has yet to miss a game this season, sprained his right ankle in the first quarter. Then power forward Jordan Hill departed in the second quarter due to a headache and cervical strain around the neck. The Lakers said neither of them would return to the game. Nash actually re-entered the game in the second quarter, already straying from D’Antoni’s previously announced plan. Before the game, the coach expressed the same apprehension about the veteran point guard that Nash did himself. “Anybody who hasn’t played very much in 10 months is going to have some rough spots,” D’Antoni said. “We’ll just have to see. Drivers think new Formula 1 cars ‘a bit too slow’ at the moment
Formula 1 drivers think that the new generation of cars are too slow at the moment, even if they are still hugely challenging to drive. The first experience of the turbo V6 machines at Jerez last week showed that although the new engines are still delivering plenty of horsepower, they are lacking in cornering speed.

That speed deficit has left a number of drivers worried that F1 has lost some of its sparkle. Manila - Philippine President Benigno Aquino has compared China’s efforts to claim disputed territories with those of Nazi Germany’s, while urging world leaders not to make the same mistake of appeasement, according to the New York Times. The Philippines has accused China of becoming increasingly aggressive in recent years in staking its claims to nearly all of the South China Sea, and Aquino reportedly said his nation could not stand up to its mightier neighbour alone. “At what point do you say: ‘Enough is enough’? Well, the world has to say it -— remember that the Sudetenland was given in an attempt to appease Hitler to prevent World War II,” the New York Times quoted Aquino as saying in a lengthy interview in Manila on Tuesday. Aquino was reportedly referring to the failure by Western nations to back Czechoslovakia when Adolf Hitlerled Nazi Germany occupied western parts of the European nation in 1938 ahead of World War II. The president’s spokespeople were not immediately available to comment on his interview with the New York Times. Aquino’s reported comments come less than two weeks after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe raised the temperature in a parallel territorial dispute with China by appearing

Ten injured in Clacton street gas blast and fire Ten people were hurt in a gas explosion and fire in a residential street in Essex. The incident happened at about 08:30 GMT in Cloes Lane, Clacton. Five people were taken to hospital, including one with life-threatening injuries, Essex Fire Service said. Two houses were “flattened” and a third is seriously damaged. Eyewitness described the street “shaking” at the blast and a strong smell of gas. South African miners trapped in Doornkop Gold Mine fire Rescue workers in South Africa are trying to free 17 miners trapped underground after a fire at Doornkop mine west of Johannesburg. The owners, Harmony Gold, said they had made contact with eight miners whom they hoped to bring to the surface shortly. “Efforts continue to establish the whereabouts of a further nine employees who are currently unaccounted for,” spokesman James Duncan told the BBC. The fire began on Tuesday evening at some 1,700m (5,600 ft) below ground. Mr Duncan said rescue teams were struggling to access the affected area because of smoke and rock fall. INDONESIA Death toll of Mount Sinabung rises Antara
MEDAN - The death toll of Mount Sinabung eruption rose to 16, following the death of Doni Sembiring, 70, in Efarina Etaham Hospital, Kabanjahe, Karo District, North Sumatra province, early Wednesday. Doni Sembiring, who had been hospitalized for burn injuries since Saturday (Feb. 1), died at 3 a.m. local time on Wednesday, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNBP) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho sated in a text message. The only survivor of the Saturday eruption, Sehat Sembiring, 48, is currently being treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit. On Saturday (Feb. 1), the erupting volcano claimed several lives as it spewed clouds of hot and toxic ash that dispersed across Sukameriah village, which is located around three km from the volcano’s peak.
The hot clouds instantaneously killed 14 people and caused serious burn injuries to three others. Surya Sembiring, 24, one of the critically wounded victims succumbed to injuries in the hospital on Sunday. BNBP Chief Syamsul Maarif is currently leading a disaster mitigation effort in Karo to deal with the Sinabung eruption. A 200-member rescue team has been deployed to look for possible victims in Sukameriah village. However, the evacuation efforts are being carried out under the safety first principle as the volcano could still spew hot and toxic ash clouds any time.
On Tuesday (Feb. 4), the rescue team could not reach Sukameriah village because the volcano had erupted twice, spewing hot clouds. The hot clouds are deemed very dangerous as they reach temperatures as high as 700 degrees Celsius and their flow is recorded at a speed of up to 100 kms per hour. The authorities raised the alert status for Mount Sinabung to the highest level in November 2013. The government has declared the area lying within five-kilometer radius of the volcano’s peak as a danger zone. No one is allowed to enter the danger zone.

Expert believes ancient ship lies trapped in Kepayang Hill Antara
BAKAUHENI - An ancient ship was trapped inside Kepayang hill, south of Lampung province during the tsunami that hit the area following the eruption of mount Krakatau in 1883, according to an independent researcher Hadi Subroto. “A geoelectrical test has shown that there is an object, believed to be the hull of a ship, trapped inside Kepayang hill. According to the image detected after the test, the ship is in an upside down position with the hull at a height of 15 meters at least,” Hadi stated. According to him, a photo satellite and land analysis of the hill had been conducted earlier and the result indicated that there was a ship trapped inside Kepayang hill at the height of 155 meters above sea level. Over the years and due to several landslides, the body of the ship has moved down from the hill and it currently stands at 25 to 30 meters from the bottom of the hill. Hadi added that he had tried to manually dig a hole on Kepayang hill to reach the body of the trapped ship. “The excavation will take six months,” he explained. Meanwhile Secretary to Lampung province’s administration Sutono stated that the local government will fully support the research to find the body of the ship trapped inside Kepayang hill. “This research is important for Indonesia’s history and tourism,” he remarked. He pointed out that if the ship truly exists, the Lampung government plans to make Kepayang hill a cultural and archeological site.

They were being accommodated in 62 emergency shelters set up throughout the capital city, he noted. In East Jakarta, the floods reached a height of about 30 cm to 250 cm, submerging six urban villages - Kampung Melayu, Bidara Cina, Cililitan, Cawang, Balekambang and Cipinang Melayu. Some 7,459 families consisting of 23,302 people were affected by the floods which displaced 4,932 people. In South Jakarta, the floods with depths of 10 cm -120 cm inundated eight urban villages - Rawajati, Pengadegan, Manggarai, Bukit Duri, Ke-
bon Baru, Pondok Pinang, Petogogan and East Pejaten. The flooding affected 2,806 households consisting of 11,162 people and displaced 2,499. In Central Jakarta, only Petamburan was flooded with water 60 cm high. In West Jakarta, six urban villages were flooded - Rawa Buaya, Duri Kosambi, Jelambar, North Kembangan, South Kedoya, Tegal Alur and Semanan. Some 19,401 households or 62,129 people were affected and 8,0704 others were displaced. North Jakarta was not flooded, BPBD Jakarta reported. On Tuesday, the local BPBD reported that 95,945 of its residents were affected by floods due to incessant rains in the capital city since Monday night until Tuesday morning. Based on data available with the BPBD, flood waters inundated 19 urban villages in nine subdistricts, affecting 487 neighborhoods (RTs) and 69 groups of neighborhoods (RWs) with victims reaching 95,942 people or 34,698 families (KKs). “Apart from that, a total of 14,308 victims were forced to evacuate to 51 locations across the capital city,” Edy Junaedi stated earlier.

LONDON - The Bank of England holds a policy meeting this week, with markets waiting to see if governor Mark Carney will alter guidance on lifting its record-low interest rate. The Monetary Policy Committee is widely expected to keep the BoE’s main interest rate at a record-low level of 0.50 percent. It is widely predicted also to maintain quantitative easing at ’375 billion ($613 billion, 454 billion euros), opting against following the US Federal Reserve in tapering stimulus. “While there is no realistic prospect of a change to the bank rate... attention will be focused on whether the committee makes a statement on its interest rate guidance,” said economist Philip Shaw at financial services firm Investec. Carney took charge of the Bank of England last August and launched a “forward guidance” strategy, under which the BoE will not raise borrowing costs until the unemployment rate falls to at least 7.0 percent. He meanwhile last month dampened talk of a rate hike any time soon after Britain’s unemployment rate fell faster than expected to 7.1 percent, a near five-year low point. Shaw said the BoE needed to send a clear signal to markets and issue new guidance following its latest two-day meeting that concludes Thursday. “The unemployment rate has now fallen more rapidly than expected... so the motivation for a quick decision is obvious, namely to avoid the need to have a full debate on an increase in the bank rate,” he said. “Any new guidance is deemed to be a monetary policy action which will require the committee to take a vote. Britain’s 12-month inflation slowed to 2.0 percent in December, recent official data showed, touching the lowest level for more than four years. SINGARAJA - The plan to cut out the collapsed concrete floor of the fish jetty (PPI) at Pabean hamlet, Sangsit village, seemingly cannot be realized immediately. This happens because the tidal waves are still engulfing the waters at the PPI Sangsit and surrounding areas. Against such condition, the Buleleng Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) delayed the cutting of the concrete floor until the sea weather returned to normal. Chief of the BPBD Buleleng, Putu Dana, said in his office on Tuesday (Feb 4) the cutting of concrete dock floor staying fused with the iron frame could not be done if the tide was still engulfing the waters in the PPI. To that end, his party with the Public Works and the Fisheries and Maritime Affairs had agreed to wait until the ocean waves returned to normal to cut out the collapsed concrete dock floor. To support the cutting of the concrete floor, his party would use the allocation of emergency fund provided by local government. “If the tidal waves are still going on, we cannot work. Based on coordination with the BPBD, Public Works as well as the Fishery and Maritime Affairs, we agree to wait until the waves turn normal to cut out the remaining collapsed dock floor,” he said. Based on observation at the PPI Sangsit, the ocean waves and strong winds still hit the waters in the region. Brunt of tidal waves continued to hit the piles of the intact dock floor. Even, the broken dock floor was occasionally rocking due to the wave ferocity. For this condition, residents worried if the remaining dock floor
would be dragged down because it was not strong enough to hold the brunt of tidal waves. Meanwhile, activity in the PPI was closed and there was only a pile of fresh fish
boxes stacked at the edge of the dock. The voyage of vessel from Madura would be re-opened when the weather was getting better. Similarly, the fishermen boats
were pulled away from the beach to avoid any damage due to the brunt of tidal waves. Even, the vannamei shrimp farming pilot project by capital owners at the PPI Sangsit was also suspended due to bad weather. The workers commonly providing feed to vannamei shrimp in the middle of the ocean were taking day-off while repairing the equipment they used. As reported previously, the floor
along 31 meters at the dock of the PPI Sangsit collapsed on Monday night (Feb 2). The remaining dock floor along 29 meters from the south to the north was still intact. Collapse of the dock floor happened because the piles supporting the concrete floor were broken after hit by tidal wave as high as five meters. Due to the incident, the Fishery and Maritime Affairs suffered a loss of IDR 1 billion. (mud)

BANGLI - Arrears of the hotel and restaurant tax (PHR) in Bangli County until 2014 are still quite large. Data in the Bangli Revenue Service indicate if the hotel and restaurant tax arrears reach IDR 1 billion more. A total of 56 businessman taxpayers have not paid yet. Most of them are local businessmen of Bangli. It was revealed by the Head of Bangli Revenue Service, Ketut Riang, Tuesday (Feb 4). He said the level of awareness of the employers running the business in hotel and restaurant in Kintamani stayed quite low. Though having teamed up with the District Attorney since 2013 in the matter of tax collection, there were still a number of
taxpayers who did not obey the rules until the second month of the year 2014. “Indeed, since we have been working with the District Attorney of Bangli to help collect taxes, some entrepreneurs have paid including by installment. But, there are still entrepreneurs having not paid the tax,” said Riang. He said the amount of hotel and restaurant tax arrears recorded in the Bangli Revenue Service account list, in fact, some of the arrears belonged to large and prominent hotels and restaurants. Most of the hotels and restaurants were located in the area of Penelokan, Kintamani. “Almost all the hotels and restaurants remaining to have not paid the taxes are owned by local businessmen. Meanwhile,
the entrepreneurs from outside Bangli are more obedient to pay taxes,” he said. More sadly, of the 67 hotels and restaurants in Bangli, one of which belonged to an individual of legislator namely the Gunawan Restaurant with the arrears reached IDR 144 million and Suling Bali Restaurant with arrears of IDR 194 million. The arrears had piled up since many years ago. So far, his party continued to collect these receivables. However, his party was frequently complicated by the restaurateurs. When collecting the tax, the owner usually claimed to have transferred the management to another party. Similarly, when billed to the management concerned, again the Revenue Service was directed to collect

WASHINGTON — With the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics just three days away, President Obama was briefed by top advisers on Tuesday on efforts to keep American athletes and visitors safe during the Games, according to the White House. Obama was updated on the security environment, the latest on U.S. cooperation with Russian authorities, and what steps the U.S. government is taking to support American athletes, the U.S. delegation and Americans attending the Olympics. “He was assured by his team that they are taking all appropriate steps regarding the safety of Americans,” the White House said in a statement. “He directed them to continue to work closely with the Russian government and other partners toward a secure and successful Sochi Games, and to review carefully and act on any new information that might affect the security of the Games.”

After a long succession of mobile mishaps, he has delivered the portable Facebook app I’ve always wanted… and there’s hardly any evidence that Paper is a Facebook product. Upon opening the app for the first time you’re greeted with a shimmering Paper logo set in Helvetica Neue UltraLight, the opposite of the bold, white logo Facebook has used since 2005. It’s a fresh start, and it could be just what the company needed.

The iWatch may cost $299 when it launches later this year, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said in a note to investors on Tuesday (via CNET), a price that’s exactly what Samsung initially charged for its first-generation Galaxy Gear and similar to the Pebble’s second smartwatch, the Pebble Steel. However, the iWatch is expected to be even more popular than its competitors’ offerings and it may indeed me the “next big thing” for Apple. “Our working assumption is that iWatch largely will be adopted as an accessory device and, therefore, sold into the existing customer base, like the iPad, rather than to new customers, like the iPod or iPhone,” Huberty wrote. Huberty further noted that the iWatch could become a significant revenue stream for Apple, bringing in as much as $17.5 billion in the first year – at $299 each, that would mean Apple would have to sell well over 58 million units during the period. At the same time, the analyst said that due to potential component constraints, Apple may only generate from $12 billion to $14 billion in revenue in its first year of selling the iWatch. In case such a scenario would play out, the iWatch would be more successful in its first year than the iPad’s and iPhone’s first years combined. The iPad generated $12 billion in sales in its first year, while the first-gen iPhone brought in $2.5 billion in revenue.
It was revealed in a roundtable discussion on Tuesday (Feb 4) with the theme ‘Bali Government Plans to Form Holding Company’ attended by Chairman of Commission II of the Bali House Tuti Kusuma Wardani, Chairman of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Kadin) of Badung Chapter AA Ngurah Alit Wiraputra, banking finance and government observer Viraguna Bagoes Oka, economist Erlangga Mantik and Secretary of the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI) of Bali Chapter Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Raka Suardana. Erlangga Mantik said the initiative to establish a holding company of regional enterprise was a great breakthrough. However, the plan needed to be elaborated further in relation to its future prospect because it was often theoretically good, but the implementation in the field was contradictory to the theory. “When viewed nationally, many state-owned enterprises face problems. Probably, only 20-25 percent of them give profits, 50 percent gets return of investment, while the remaining ones suffer losses so they continue to receive an injection of funds from the government, for instance, the state-owned airline and clothing company that do not bring in the economic benefits,” he said. He explained, in the implementation, many regional enterprises faced obstacles because in terms of legal basis contained in the Government Regulation No.25/2000 and the implementation basis of the regional enterprise mentioned in Article 33 of the Constitution 1945 stated that the regional enterprise had to prioritize the community interest and needs. “Right, one of the objectives of the asset management is providing maximum benefits for the community. However, it is theoretically opposing to the Government Regulation No.25/2000. On the one hand, the regional enterprise is established to become a source of revenue, but the other clause mentions the enterprise is meant to provide services for the community and others,” he said. If the government builds a hospital it surely wants to accommodate many people. Moreover, with the Bali Mandara Health Insurance (JKBM) program, the government is obliged to establish a hospital. In other words, it must attempt how to make the JKBM program run properly. So, it is not for profit-oriented but how to deliver the subsidy to the public through the hospital,” he explained. On that account, he considered that the government was not obliged to look for profits but should subsidize, so that people could be accommodated. For instance, the public transport sector currently developed in Bali should be utilized by society and it definitely suffered a loss. Thus, it needed the government subsidies. “Regional enterprise should be able to focus more on how the government can deliver the functions of aids to communities, not to individuals. Besides, it should think of empowering people. So, it should no longer need to do things that could have been worked on by the public,” he said. He hoped the government to take the principal tasks of administration and provide an opportunity for local people to work on the existing business opportunities. “If it purely looks for profits, let the Chamber of Industry and Commerce take it,” he said. SEMARAPURA - Avian influenza caused by the H5N1 virus spreads back at Banjarangkan village, Banjarangkan subdistrict, last week. It was known after a resident was suspected to suffer bird flu following a direct contact with poultry that died suddenly. Meanwhile, the results of rapid test by Klungkung Livestock, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (PPK) indicated if the chicken was positively infected by the avian influenza virus. The resident suspected of suffering bird flu named Ketut Wardana, 40. As information of his family on Tuesday (Feb 4), previously there were dozens of chicken and people’s livestock that suddenly died. At that time, Ketut Wardana had direct contact with the chicken when wishing to dispose them without using any kind of protection. As a result, on the following day Wardana suffered a high fever and was treated at the Banjarangkan Health Center I before finally was referred to Sanglah Hospital. In Sanglah Hospital, Wardana was stated to be a suspect of bird flu. Meanwhile, the result of rapid test by PPK Klungkung with Banjarangkan Health Center I, Monday (Feb 3) stated that the chickens suddenly died were positive to bird flu. His daughter, Wiwin, 14, admitted that her parent sold chicken and broilers every day. As a result, her father and mother had contact with poultry every day. In addition, her father also often grilled chicken for sale by her mother. Each day, the chickens were brought in directly from Bangli County delivered directly pursuant to the amount of order. Wiwin also admitted that her father had disposed dead chickens. Now, the family of Wardana worried about the threat of avian flu. Another resident, Wayan Candra, also admitted to be anxious. DENPASAR - The flood disaster occurred all this time in Denpasar tends to be caused by the damage to a number of conduits. TABANAN - Heavy rain flushing the area of Bedugul, Baturiti, almost claimed casualties. Two vehicles in the garage at Ulun Danu Beratan tourist area were almost washed away by floods. No casualties were reported in the disaster. However, the material losses were large enough. A number of tourist facilities at the verge of the lake were damaged. Rush of water resembling flash flood was triggered by the overflow of a small river in the north side of the Ulun Danu. Around 08:00 a.m., the water overflowed as the river was clogged by waste materials. By all means, the water flow stalled and then hit the Ulun Danu tourist area ranging from the temple area to the park. Even, two vehicles parked in the garage were almost brought by the flood. “The water is very huge and carrying rubbish. Two vehicles in the garage were almost washed away,” said Operations Manager of the Ulun Danu Beratan tourist attraction, Wayan Mustika, Tuesday (Feb 4). This man explained the floodwater had surprised the employees of the Ulun Danu. Moreover, there was no indication in advance. Luckily, his party moved fast. Once the flood
appeared, his party with community leaders and employees were trying to clean up the rubbish that clogged the small stream. In fact, the effort worked. Having been struggling for few hours for getting rid of the rubbish, the floodwater could be overcome. However, a number of facilities were damaged, including the landscaping garden. Some ornamental plants were also damaged. As a result, the beauty of the park was harmed. Rubbish that clogged the river was originating from tree debris brought by floods from the upstream. The disaster was considered quite serious this year. Typically, the flood was only triggered by the overflowing water of the lake. Today, the floods even came from the upstream accompanied with waste materials. It had not been known about the losses due to such disaster. “We are still focusing on cleaning up the rubbish, so the comfort of travelers will not be harmed,” said Mustika. Fortunately, by late morning, floodwater could have been resolved. He hoped the weather in Bedugul area could be getting better so there would be no subsequent floods. The Regulation Enforcement Division Head of the Municipal Police, Wayan Wirawan, when met on the sidelines of policing said the billboard demolition at this time was continuation of the previous one. However, some owners even did not want to heed the reprimand letter filed by municipal police. On the other hand, the Head of the DTRP Denpasar, I Gede Cipta Sudewa, said the current zoning drafting of the advertisement zonation had just completed for six points of road section. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea Admits Played Air Bass During Super Bowl
Flea may have kept his pants on when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were onstage during the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show, but he did noticeably leave his cord hanging. After getting called out for more or less playing air bass on Sunday, the veteran musician took to his blog today to explain why he didn’t plug in for the band’s performance at MetLife Stadium. “When we were asked by the NFL and [headliner Bruno Mars] to play our song ‘Give It Away’ at the Super Bowl, it was made clear to us that the vocals would be live, but the bass, drums, and guitar would be pre-recorded,” Flea wrote in a post on the Chili Peppers’ website. “I understand the NFL’s stance on this, given they only have a few minutes to set up the stage, there a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound for the folks watching in the stadium and the t.v. viewers. There was not any room for argument on this, the NFL does not want to risk their show being botched by bad sound, period.” The NFL and Fox did, however, allow this year’s halftime performers to show all the nipple they wanted.
