NEW YORK - Lady Gaga has revealed that she was raped as a teenager and said that it took her years of therapy to acknowledge and start to recover from the trauma. “I don’t want to be defined by it,” the pop star said. “I’ll be damned if somebody is going to say that every creatively intelligent thing I ever did is all boiled down to one dickhead that did that to me.” Lady Gaga, 28, said that the rape took place when she was 19 and that she has gone through years of therapy. She did not go into detail but said that the aggressor was 20 years older than her. “It happens every day. It’s really scary and it’s sad and it didn’t affect me as much right after as it did about four or five years later,” she told radio host Howard Stern. “I didn’t tell anybody -- I didn’t even tell myself for the longest time,” she said. “Then I was like, you know what,

all this drinking and all this nonsense, you have to go to the source, otherwise it won’t go away.” The singer, who later became known for her gaudy outfits and outspoken social commentary, said that she did not report the rape. She said she saw her aggressor once more when she ran into him at a store and that she became “paralyzed by fear.” Lady Gaga revealed the rape as she discussed her song “Swine” from her 2013 album “Artpop.” She performed the song at this year’s South by Southwest festival, where she rode a mechanical bull in a suggestive fashion and had a collaborator vomit on her. “The song is about rape. This song is about demoralization,” Lady Gaga said in her radio interview Tuesday. “I want this chick to throw up on me in front of the world, so that I can tell them, you know what? You could never, ever degrade me as much as I could degrade myself and look how beautiful it is what I do.”

DENPASAR - Travel agencies coalesced into the Association of the Indonesia Tour and Travel Agency (ASITA) of Bali Chapter complained about the services at Ngurah Rai Airport. The newly renovated airport has not been able to provide comfort for them when picking up their guests. “The airport has not been 100 percent ready. Recently, there were many complaints about discomfort when picking up guests at the international arrival terminal. The arrangement was inappropriate due

to the existence of two paths. We need to discuss this issue with our members and then recommended it to Angkasa Pura,” said Chairman of the ASITA Bali, Ketut Ardana. He said the services provided at

international arrival terminal should be given a good place to welcome visitors. “From decades ago, when picking up guests at international arrival terminal there was a tradition of garlanding. The area needs to be

given a nice touch, so that visitors would be impressed as soon as setting foot in Bali,” explained Ardana accompanied by the Advisory Board, Bagus Sudibya. According to him, the complaints would be discussed in the first Regional Working Meeting 2014 held on Thursday (Dec 4). Not only that, the ASITA Bali also formulated some inputs from participants and it would be submitted to the airport

authority as the operator. “Approximately the 223 present participants can formulate the problem to be further recommended to Angkasa Pura 1. We will also discuss about the preparation of human resources of the ASITA in the face of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015 so that it can play an active role and becomes superior,” he said.

NEW YORK — Kathy Griffin will be terrorizing the fashion crowd as the new host of “Fashion Police,” replacing the late Joan Rivers when it returns to E! in January. The comic-commentary series, which had aired weekly, will now present 17 special episodes throughout 2015 that focus on high-profile red carpet and fashion events, E! announced Monday. It returns Jan. 12 for coverage of the Golden Globe Awards. E! Executive Vice President Jeff Olde called Rivers “a dear friend and mentor to Kathy, who will no doubt continue her legacy and do the series justice by bringing her own unique comic style and tell-it-like-it-is personality to the host chair.”

“You celebrities better strap yourself in,” Griffin said, “as I am taking no prisoners.” Griffin is an award-winning actress, comedian and author known for her biting comic style. She won two Emmys for her Bravo reality series, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.” Her selection had been widely anticipated. “Kathy just feels right,” said Melissa Rivers, who continues as “Fashion Police” executive producer, adding: “I’m excited to see where this panel takes this series my mother so adored in

Nusa Penida gets a fund worth IDR 28 billion

SEMARAPURA - Infrastructural sector of Klungkung County will get serious attention next year, especially for Nusa Penida subdistrict. At least, it can be seen from the total budget allocated in General Budget Policy (KUA) in the Plafond Priority of Provisional Budget (PPAS), main regional budget of Nusa Penida 2015. Particularly in Nusa Penida, the development of infrastructure got the budget worth IDR 28 billion.

It was conveyed by Chairman of the Klungkung House, Wayan Baru, Wednesday (Dec 3), after a meeting in the Mandala Sabha, Parliament House of Klungkung. The increase was said to be very significant because all factions in the Klungkung House realized that the focus of development next year was the infrastructure in Nusa Penida subdistrict, especially road infrastructures. The legislator from the Nusa Penida electoral subdistrict said that last year the infrastructural budget was only worth IDR 5 billion. Moreover, it was intended for all the subdistricts. As a result, the overall condition of infrastructure lacked for attention and needed to be addressed. Magnitude of the infrastructural budget in 2015 was the good will of the Regent of Klungkung, Nyoman Suwirta, who wanted the acceleration of the development in Nusa Penida. Nusa Penida required a big and dauntless leap to actually build the island region from the underdevelopment

compared to the other subdistricts. Another legislator of Klungkung House, Komang Gde Ludra, asserted that all this time there had been no really serious efforts to develop Nusa Penida. The House agreed with the executive, that Nusa Penida should get the focus of development next year. If the government wanted to gain greater regionally generated revenue than previous year, the condition of infrastructure should be built first. To open the investment opportunities, this was the key to develop Nusa Penida as the ‘golden egg’ of Bali. “Good will of the regent is now focused on Nusa Penida. We really encourage the effort. All this time, we in the legislative also have the same idea, but it was not followed by good planning by the previous regent,” he said. Struggle for getting water, head got hacked

AMLAPURA - The difficulty to get clean water in Karangasem makes a number of people do desperate action when getting water. A resident on behalf of I Wayan Satya, 35, from Taman hamlet, Seraya Tengah, should get three stitches on head after being hacked by I Wayan Dani, 40, by using a sickle. The hacking action occurred after the two men were involved in quarrel

due to scrambling when fetching water in a reservoir in the local field area. Information compiled by this newspaper told that the water scrambling ended in stabbing. At first, Wayan Satya came to the reservoir after getting a turn to get drinking water on Tuesday (Dec 2) around 6 o’clock in the afternoon. Later, the culprit, Wayan Dani, came and directly grabbed water by overtaking the victim’s turn.

Actually, at that time the culprit did not get his turn to fetch water. Being upset with the act of the culprit taking his rights, the victim then got angry and threatened to cut off the pipeline of water flow leading to the reservoir. Hearing what the victim said, the culprit immediately turned furious and rushed to swing his sickle towards the victim. Swinging of the culprit’s sickle injured the left side of the victim’s head.

As a result, the victim suffered lacerations and should get three stitches. Since the act of the culprit could not be accepted, the victim then reported the incident to Karangasem Police on Wednesday (Dec 3) around eight o’clock in the afternoon. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Victoria’s Secret ‘Angels’ strut in London for first time

LONDON - Top models wearing gold wings and diamond-encrusted bras strutted the London catwalk on Tuesday in the first Victoria’s Secret annual lingerie show to be held in the British capital. The event was billed as the US company’s most expensive ever with a price tag of $20 million (16 million euros), and featured some of the world’s best-paid models including Brazil’s Adriana Lima. Only the second time the show has been held outside the United States since 1995, the event began on a glamourous note with the so-called “Victoria’s Secret Angels” dressed in white and sporting gold wings. “The show is seen in 192 countries, the show is seen by 500 million people. That is completely unique in the industry. No one does what we do,” marketing director Ed Razek said. Wearing long dark tresses and capes, Lima and fellow Brazilian Alessandra Ambrosio exhibited “Fantasy Bras” created by jeweller Mouawad, each studded with 16,000 precious stones including diamonds, rubies and sapphires valued at $2 million. A change in ambiance arrived in the fourth section of the show, which was hosted by Grande and was dedicated to the brand’s more casual PINK line aimed at students, with

models dressed in leopard prints and bright colours. Irish musician Hozier then performed his hit debut “Take Me to Church” as models dressed in pale green and pink with transparent fairy wings strutted in a magical setting of white trees and autumn leaves. Among the 47 “Angels” chosen to represent the brand were Candice Swanepoel, Behati Prinsloo, Doutzen Kroes and Karlie Kloss -- the latter appeared wearing 18-carat gold wings. Created in 1977 and with 1,000 stores in the United States, Victoria’s Secret is the market leader there and made $6.68 billion from sales last year. It has been on the British market since 2005 and has a flagship store on London’s New Bond Street, one of 15 outlets in the country. The flashy brand is not to everyone’s taste, however. Three British students led a successful social media campaign that forced the company earlier this month to change its adverts featuring models wearing its new “Body” bras under the slogan: “The Perfect ‘Body’.”

The ad now reads: “A Body for Every Body.” But Razek dismissed the controversy as “absurd” as he said the company had never intended to present “an example of the one and only perfect body in the world”. Describing the models as “healthy” and “confident”, Razek said that those who performed in the show were “genuinely nice women” who defied stereotypes. “The image of a vacuous supermodel who never eats and only worries about what she looks like is certainly not the image of our girls,” he said. Swedish model Elsa Hosk said she had prepared for the show, which has helped launch the career of several famous supermodels, with “a lot of different workouts” including a mix of ballet and boxing. “It’s one of the biggest shows that you can walk in as a model,” she told AFP ahead of the event. “It’s such an honour for a model to walk in this show, just because it’s huge publicity for us.” Dutch model Kroes said: “It feels really special.”

DENPASAR - The rain having flushed the city of Denpasar caused floods at some points such as on Jalan Pidada, North Denpasar. It also made some markets muddy, where one of which was the Badung Market. Muddy condition typically occurred in the market courtyard, but this time was different. Muddy condition even occurred in the market and it was visible from the entrance of the first and third floor. Precisely the muddy area occurred at the staircase in the eastern part of the market. Of course, it was very disturbing the convenience of visitors. Therefore, they should walk carefully, especially the elderly and the market visitors carrying a lot of stuff. They had to set foot carefully to feel whether the floor was slippery or not. According to one of the tour guides, Sukarmi, it had already happened from long time ago. It was kindled by the water seepage from the walls occurred every rainy season. “Such condition always happens whereas the walls of the building have been covered by ceramic, but the water still comes through,” she explained. When asked about the comfort of

travelers she escorted, she said there were no any comments. “Travelers did not give comment regarding the condition of water. They preferred to look at the interaction of buying and selling,” she added. It was different from the comment given by the owner of Eagle necklace accessories shop located on the third floor who was asking for anonymity. The man was deeply disturbed by such condition. Seepage of water right in front of his shop often caused visitors to slip and fall down. “Here, many visitors often tucked, even some of them fall down,” he said. To avoid more visitors or traders from falling, he place a piece of cardboard on the floor. This solution did not much help because of the seepage had caused the cardboard quickly destroyed. Sukarmi revealed the seepage was alleged to originate from the building on the fourth floor. “Quality of the plumbing above was not good, so this condition happens like this,” she described. She hoped the management of PD Pasar Kota Denpasar could immediately take action regarding the problems in the market, so as not to become a seasonal problem. (sos)

Supermodel Naomi Campbell launches Ebola fashion pop-up LONDON - British supermodel Naomi Campbell launched a pop-up fashion shop in east London to raise awareness of the spread of Ebola on Thursday. Sporting a thick fringe and wearing a plunging grey dress, Campbell showed off party dresses, glittery high heels and other pieces donated by designers and friends to be sold at the store. The “Fashion for Relief” shop, a fundraising drive founded by Campbell after the Hurricane Katrina disaster in 2005, will be open for one week at the Westfield shopping centre in east London. “Raising awareness for Ebola and educating about its prevention is crucial to help prevent the spread of this deadly disease,” Campbell said in a statement ahead of the opening. “We hope the Fashion For Relief store will raise much-needed funds and awareness, whilst offering amazing pieces at accessible prices.” Campbell was joined at the launch by fellow Londoners rapper Tinie Tempah and actor Idris Elba, famous for playing character Stringer Bell in TV show The Wire and Nelson Mandela in a 2013 biopic.

INDONESIA Indonesia will sink three illegal vessel on Saturday Antara

JAKARTA - Authorities will sink three foreign-flagged illegal fishing vessels next Saturday (Dec 7), Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno said on Thursday. “This is a tough move by the Indonesian government against illegal fishing activities in our territory,” Tedjo stated after meeting with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace here on Thursday. According to him, authorities had earlier seized three ships allegedly fishing illegally in Indonesian waters. After thorough investigations, authorities came to the conclusion that the crew of the three ships had indeed been illegally fishing and therefore will be held guilty of violating regulations in Indonesia. The three ships will be sunk in Anambas waters in Riau island area. “It can be burnt or blasted. The message here is that nobody can violate our regulation,” noted Tedjo. Earlier, the Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief General Moeldoko remarked that

the TNI was looking for the best possible way to sink foreign vessels fishing illegally in Indonesian waters. “I have ordered the Naval chief of staff to find the best possible way in accordance with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s instruction to sink foreign illegal fishing vessels in Indonesian waters so as not to reap global criticism,” Moeldoko stated. He stressed that while he wanted the TNI to carry out the President’s order, he also wanted it to take a subjective view. Therefore, he held a meeting with TNI high-ranking officers to discuss more elegant ways, which may be internationally acceptable, to sink foreign vessels caught fishing illegally in Indonesian waters. “More importantly, Indonesia is as

firm as any other country against illegal fishing and other illegal activities,” the TNI chief affirmed. Moeldoko also observed that the TNI will step up patrolling across Indonesian waters. “The TNI Western Fleet Command and Eastern Fleet Command will conduct patrols across Indonesian waters to deal with illegal fishing activities,” he noted. Meanwhile, Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Marsetio observed that although the Indonesian Air Force has the main radar, the Navy has also installed its radar along the Malacca Strait. “We have covered the entire Malacca Strait. BI predicts downward trend in economic growth Antara

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) has forecast that the country’s economic growth in 2015 will show a downward trend, even lower than BI’s estimate of 5.4-5.8 percent. The central bank’s deputy governor Hendar remarked here on Thursday that Indonesia’s economy would continue to remain favorable in the future following the government’s bold decision to increase the price of subsidized fuel oils. He, however, pointed out that it would all still be determined by the reallocation of fuel subsidy funds. Hendar expressed hope that the global economy in 2015 would be better than this year, despite several lingering challenges. “Under the current circumstances, we can assure that the country’s economy would grow around 5.4 percent in 2014,” he affirmed. The government has set a growth target of 5.8 percent in the 2015 budget, which is above BI’s prediction. Zulkifli Zaini, the general chairman of the Indonesian Bankers Association, has noted that in order to achieve 5.8 percent growth minimally, a credit growth of 17.4 percent, or three times the economic growth, would be needed. The Financial Service Authority (OJK) has projected banking credit growth of 15 to 17 percent for 2015. A. Prasentiantoko, the chief economist of state-owned Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN), stated that Indonesia could achieve higher growth if the current account deficit could be better managed to stay under three percent.

Appeal for clemency by the five convicts has been rejected by the president, therefore, their verdict has been final, Coordinating Minister for Political Affairs, Security and Law Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno said on Thursday. Altogether there are 64 convicts in the death row including foreigners to be executed but only five of them having no legal channel left for appeal, Tedjo said after a meeting with President Joko Widodo. He said the execution is to be carried out this month but implementation needs approval from the attorney general. The attorney general will say the names of the convicts, he added. “The execution is not ordered by the president, but the president has passed order that the legal process must be properly carried out. That is in line with the government commitment in law enforcement,” he said.
