MANGUPURA - One of the measures that must be done to realize the synergies between tourism and agricultural sector is to establish the ability of farmers in terms of quantity, quality and continuity of production. JAKARTA - Indonesia’s troubled football federation is once again in strife as a breakaway super league threatens to disqualify top Indonesian clubs from regional events. Rival administrators revived the defunct Liga Super Indonesia,
which kicked off Thursday after disputes between clubs and Liga Prima Indonesia, the country’s official top league registered with the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). “We believe a letter from the sports ministry makes it clear that there is only one recognised professional league under the
PSSI, and that’s the Prima Liga Indonesia,” PSSI competition committee chief Sihar Sitorus told AFP. “We will be taking action against the Liga Super administrators and we will see if they are kicked out or accommodated.” Eleven of the 24 original Liga Prima clubs boycotted the compe-
tition, some saying too many clubs were playing, others citing inadequate salaries and conditions. The split in the country’s pool of top clubs could hurt Indonesia’s chances of competing in the Asian Champions League and the AFC Cup championships beyond next year. Continued on page 6

Karzai accuses Pakistan of stalling talks with Taliban Agence France Presse
Afghan President Hamid Karzai has accused Pakistan, which is boycotting an international conference on Afghanistan starting Monday in Bonn, of undermining all negotiations with the Taliban. “Up until now, they have sadly refused to back efforts for negotiations with the Taliban,” Karzai told Der Spiegel weekly in comments reported in German and due to be published on Monday. The Bonn meeting will seek to chart a course for Afghanistan after the NATO withdrawal in 2014, but a boycott by Pakistan has dealt a blow to already fragile hopes for a roadmap. Pakistan is seen as vital to any prospect of stability in the warravaged country a decade after USled forces ousted the Taliban, who had offered safe haven to Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. But Islamabad pulled out after 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed in cross-border NATO air strikes a week ago, although sources close to the German foreign ministry said it would be kept informed of progress at the conference. The United States has voiced re-
gret over the strikes but has stopped short of issuing an apology while the American military conducts an investigation. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday called Pakistan’s prime minister to offer condolences. In the call with Yousuf Raza Gilani, Clinton “reiterated America’s respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty and commitment to working together in pursuit of shared objectives on the basis of mutual interest and mutual respect,” the State Department said. Islamabad has so far refused to take part in the US investigation into the incident, exacerbating fears of a prolonged crisis between Pakistan and the United States. Pakistan, reacting to fury from its people over the attack, shut down NATO’s vital supply line into Afghanistan and boycotted the Bonn conference.

Croatia opposition set to win vote on economy ticket Reuters
ZAGREB - Croatia voted on Sunday in an election likely to hand power to the centre-left opposition on a mandate to overhaul the country’s flagging economy before it joins the European Union in 2013. Voters will almost certainly punish the ruling conservative HDZ -- Croatia’s dominant party since independence in 1991 -- for a string of corruption scandals and rising unemployment. Polls suggest power will pass to an opposition bloc known as Kukuriku (‘cock-a-doodledoo’) and led by 45-year-old former
diplomat Zoran Milanovic of the Social Democrats (SDS). The next government will have to act fast to trim state spending, create jobs and avert a potential credit rating downgrade. Milanovic has told Croats they will have to work “more, harder, longer” to turn the economy around before the country of 4.3 million people becomes the second ex-Yugoslav republic to join the EU in July 2013. “I have a decent pension but I look around me and I see poverty everywhere,” 74-year-old pensioner Milan Grgurek said after voting in the capital, Zagreb. “Whoever comes to power ... will have to carry out reforms.” Croatian opposition leader and prime ministerial candidate Zoran Milanovic gestures after casting his vote at a polling booth during the parliamentary election in Zagreb December 4, 2011. As Putin plans to stay, many Russians want out Associated Press Writer
MOSCOW — Natalia Lepleiskaya is just the sort of person today’s Russia needs — a successful young IT manager who does charity work in her free time. But frustrated by what she describes as the corruption and stagnation around her, she and her husband are packing their bags to start a new life in Canada. “I don’t see how I can change things ... and I don’t want to waste my youth on it,” said the 29-year-old, who moved to Moscow from a provincial city several years ago and rose to a senior position at a top technological company. As Vladimir Putin’s party prepares to dominate weekend parliamentary elections in a prelude to his planned return to the presidency in spring, an increasing number of Russians are contemplating leaving their homeland in search of a brighter future abroad. A March presidential election victory for Putin — all but taken for granted — raises the prospect of his being in the top job for 12 years. Disenchantment with life in Russia was growing even before Prime Minister Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev agreed in September to swap jobs,
In a May poll by the respected Levada Center, 22 percent of respondents said they wanted to move abroad for good, compared to 13 percent in April 2009. The poll among 1,600 Russian adults across the country had a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. Emigration statistics are hard to come by because few of those who leave for lengthy periods renounce Russian citizenship, while getting foreign residency may take years. But demographer Mikhail Denisenko at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow estimates that at least a half million Russians moved abroad in 2002-2009 and more are on the way in what he describes as the fifth wave of emigration since the beginning of the 20th century.

Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Abraham Samad elected new KPK chief Antara
JAKARTA - Abraham Samad was elected as the new chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the period 2011-2015 here on Friday. Samad won 43 votes out of 56 from members of the House of Representatives` Commission III, defeating present KPK chief Busyro Muqoddas and other can-
didates. Before electing the KPK chief, Commission III members elected four new KPK members out of eight candidates, namely Bambang
Widjojanto , Abraham Samad, Adnan Pandu Praja and Zulkarnaen who respectively won 55, 55, 51 and 37 votes. Yunus Husein, Aryanto Sutadi, Abdullah Hehamahua and Handoyo Sudrajat failed to be named KPK members as they respectively obtained only 20, three, two and zero votes. Commission member Trimedya
Panjaitan from the opposition Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) said Samad`s election was the success of six factions in the House of Representatives in choosing a more neutral figure. He said Abraham Samad during a fit and proper test expressed strong commitment to eradicating corruption without discrimination.
“He even guaranteed if in a year he did not handle a big case he is ready to resign,” he said. Trimedya said Abraham Samad had a good track record and was still relatively young, namely 46 years old. In terms of experience, he said, Abraham Samad as a lecturer and a lawyer was not too far below Bambang Widjojanto.

Indonesia revokes ban on sending maids to Malaysia Agence France-Presse
JAKARTA - Indonesia has lifted a ban on sending domestic workers to Malaysia after both countries agreed on a minimum salary increase and measures to end abuse and torture, an official said Friday. Jakarta implemented the ban in June 2009 after a spate of workers reported shocking abuse cases at the hands of their Malaysian employers. “We revoked it Thursday after both countries agreed on a number of deals aimed at improving protection for Indonesian workers,” labour ministry directorgeneral for Indonesian workers abroad Reyna Usman told AFP. Most of Malaysia’s foreign maids are Indonesian women, who often work for as little as 400 ringgit ($130) a month and have no specific laws governing their work
conditions. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding in May to improve conditions for Indonesian maids, but Jakarta said it would only officially revoke the ban after a minimum-wage increase was negotiated. “There will be a significant salary increase for the domestic workers. They will now get a minimum wage of 700 ringgit a month,” Usman said, adding that employers will have to pay maids by bank transfer. “There have been many cases where Malaysian employers simply did not pay their maid’s salary. By using a bank transfer, it will be easier to track payments,” she said. Indonesia will send its first group of workers to Malaysia in early March. Employers will not be allowed to confiscate maids’ passports and workers have an
explicit right to communicate with relatives and Indonesian authorities. Workers are now entitled to one day a week off or receive cash compensation of 28 ringgit. Hau Yuan Tyng, a 45-year-old Malaysian woman, is serving 11 years in jail for inflicting horrific wounds on her Indonesian maid, Siti Hajar, using a hammer, scissors and scalding water. Siti, 35, escaped from her employer’s upmarket apartment last year and made her way to the Indonesian embassy. Pictures of her injuries were splashed across newspapers in both countries. Indonesia has also banned sending maids to Saudi Arabia following the beheading of a maid, Ruyati binti Sapubi, in June. Sapubi, 54, was convicted of killing her Saudi employer, who she said had abused her.
JAKARTA - The government of Indonesia is taking steps to anticipate the impact of European crisis on the national economy, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said. Speaking at a cabinet plenary meeting at his office on Friday, President Yudhoyono said the situation in Europe should be Indonesia`s concern and part of national economic steps in 2012. “We continue to keep abreast of developments in the world economy, and on Thursday we discussed at length with German President Christian Wulff about the real situation in the European Union and Eurozone,” President Yudhoyono said. Yudhoyono said that the German president as well as the leaders of several international monetary institutions had commented on the development of economic condition in Europe. Therefore the head of state said the 2012 State Budget should be prepared well and implemented properly. “All along I have warned that the important tool of 2012 State Budget be arranged, allocated, and implemented properly because it has something to do with our economy,” the president asserted. He added that the government should ensure fiscal discipline to maintain the national economy. “The government`s expenditure should be managed properly, debt relief should not be left without the propriety because it is in line with the depth to gross domestic product ratio. Besides fiscal discipline, we have to work even harder and do many things for our national economy,” the president said. He noted that the government should not wait until the crisis hit the national economy. P r e s i d e n t Yu d h o y o n o c h a i r e d t h e cabinet plenary meeting this time to discuss measures to anticipate possible economic crisis as a result of Eurozone problem. Other issues discussed at the meeting were related to Indonesian foreign policy, and the attitude toward fundamental and strategic issues in international relations.

Swift, Minaj get Billboard honor, talk Grammy nods Agence France Presse
NEW YORK — Taylor Swift doesn’t think the Recording Academy is mean. Though she won the Grammy for album of the year in 2010, she’s not sad her latest multiplatinum effort isn’t up for the honor this time around. “I got three nominations. I was just so excited,” she said Friday, before she was honored as Billboard’s “Woman of the Year.” Among the Swift achievements that led to her Billboard honor was the best-selling performance of her third album “Speak Now,” which has sold more than 3.7 million copies and generated hits like “Mine” and “Mean.” There was some surprise when the critically acclaimed album wasn’t among the overall best album nominees when the Grammy nominations were revealed Wednesday, but Swift says she’s excited by her nominations, which include best country album and two for “Mean,” in which she answers her critics and challenges bullies. “That song is so personal, and I’m so glad that the Grammys recognized it,” she said on the red carpet ahead of the event. Swift
got a standing ovation as she accepted her honor. Swift recalled reading Billboard as a teen, pouring over its pages and hoping one day to see her name in the trade magazine. “I got here today and there were all these flashing camera bulbs ... I got to the table, and I saw the magazine on the chair and it had me on it,” she said. “All the daydreams I had as a little kid, I guess this is what it looked like.” One of the country singer’s favorite artists, Nicki Minaj, was also honored at the event as Billboard’s “Rising Star.” Like Swift, Minaj was rocking blonde bangs. “This is my Taylor Swift look,” Minaj joked. But the rapper and singer got teary-eyed at the event when Minaj received her honor. She’s costarred on dozens of hit songs in the last two years, and her debut CD, “Pink Friday,” has sold more than 1.6 million copies in the United States. Minaj is nominated for four Grammys, including best new artist, pitting her against the Band Perry, Bon Iver, Skrillex and J. Cole. “I don’t ever expect to win those kinds of things, but it’s good to be recognized and it’s good for girls to see that you can do whatever kind of music that you want to do,” Minaj said on the red carpet.
Jimmy Fallon to release new comedy album Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK — “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon is known for performing with his famous musical guests, including Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen and Blake Shelton, so it seems only natural the comedian and music enthusiast would release a new album. Fans won’t have to wait long. His second record, not yet titled, is scheduled for release next summer on Warner Music Nashville. It will feature parodies and music that have become instant classics on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy
Fallon.” His first album, “The Bathroom Wall,” was released in 2002. Despite singing live with some of the biggest names in music on his show, Fallon said he still feels the pressure of getting his new album completed. “Mostly, it means I should probably start writing some songs,” he said in a statement. Half of greenhouse gases ¶HPLWWHG E\ ۋYH QDWLRQV· Agence France Presse
More than half of all carbon pollution released into the atmosphere comes from five countries, according to a national ranking of greenhouse gas emissions released Thursday. The first 10 countries on the list, made available during UN climate talks in Durban, South Africa, account for two-thirds of global emissions, said the report, compiled by British-based firm Maplecroft, specialists in risk analysis.

More than half of all carbon pollution released into the atmosphere comes from five countries, according to a national ranking of greenhouse gas emissions released Thursday.
China, the United States, India, Russia and Japan top the ranking, with Brazil, Germany, Canada, Mexico and Iran just behind. Three of the top six nations are energy-hungry emerging giants developing their economies at breakneck speed. China, which eclipsed the United States several years ago to head the list, produced 9,441 megatons of CO2 equivalent (CO2e), a measure that combines C02 with other heattrapping gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. The method of calculation used combines 2009 figures for energy consumption with estimated numbers for 2010. The majority of the countries’ emissions are carbon dioxide, thanks to massive energy demand. Renewable energy use is increasing, but remains dwarfed by fossil fuel use.
India produced 2272.45 megatons of CO2e, a significant portion from methane generated by agriculture. “Although per capita energy use in China and India is relatively low, overall energy demand is very large,” said Maplecroft Analyst, Chris Laws. “When combined with high use of coal and other fossil fuels, this results in large emissions in both countries.” Brazil’s output of 1,144 megatons from energy use would be significantly higher if deforestation were taken into account. Among advanced economies, the United States -- No. 1 among large nations for per capita emissions -- produced 6,539 megatons of CO2e. Russia, at 1,963 megatons, ranked fourth. Its emissions dropped after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but are expected to rise.

In its ruling, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said a technological breakthrough makes donating bone marrow a process nearly identical to giving blood plasma. It’s legal — and common — to pay plasma donors. The ruling comes after a lawsuit was filed by lawyers at the nonprofit Institute for Justice. Glock: I’m as good as Vettel Timo Glock believes that he would give double world champion Sebastian Vettel a run for his money in similar equipment. Confidence is a pre-requisite for an F1 driver, and Timo Glock showed that he has lost none of his despite being marooned at the rear of the grid by claiming to be the equal of double world champion Sebastian Vettel. Speaking in an interview ahead of his maiden appearance at the Race of Champions in his native Germany, the Marussia Virgin Racing driver insisted that he would give his Red Bull rival a run for his money if he was gifted similar machinery. “I know I’m just as good as Seb,” he told Kolner Express, “If we were both sitting in a Red Bull, only the form of the day would make the difference.” With the RoC pitting drivers against each other in the same cars, Glock, who competes for Team Germany 2 alongside
double DTM champion Timo Scheider while Vettel partners seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher in the all-conquering first team, admits that he hopes to get the chance to prove his point in Dusseldorf. “I’m very curious to see how the comparison pans out,” he smiled. Having spent the past two seasons helping establish the Virgin Racing team as a credible F1 entry, many expected Glock to look to move back up the grid for 2012. However, with a dearth of viable alternatives, with the possible exception of joining an already-crowded
waiting room at Lotus Renault, he opted to sign a ‘long-term’ deal with his current employer, with the view to helping it move away from the back of the grid. “It’s quite funny,” the 29-year old explained, “I recently sat with an old Toyota mechanic and he asked me how I can stay motivated because we were fighting for the podium and now I’m fighting for 20th place. “It’s simply this - when I get into the car, I’m always motivated. Even when it’s for the wooden spoon, I just fight until the last metre.
Kimi Raikkonen will prove his critics wrong RENAULT team owner Gerard Lopez says questions about Kimi Raikkonen’s motivation in returning to Formula 1 will only make the 2007 world champion more determined to succeed. After two years in the World Rally Championship, Raikkonen is rejoining grand prix racing in 2012 with what will then be called the Lotus team. The Finn’s motivation level was often called into question during the latter stages of his original F1 career and in his WRC stint, but speaking during Raikkonen’s first visit to the team’s Enstone factory on Friday, Lopez said he was confident this was not an issue anymore. “Kimi has proven in the past that he is among the fastest and in terms of age he’s still in his prime,” said Lopez. “In terms of motivation from what I have seen and spoken to him, he is probably as motivated as ever. And the more people question the better it is because it is going to increase his motivation even more to prove that they are wrong. “I’m excited that he is here because I
think it’s one of the very important steps in getting the team to where we want it to be which is one of the top teams in Formula 1.” Lopez feels that as a proven world champion, Raikkonen will be the benchmark Renault needs to judge its competitiveness as it tries to get back to the top. “I think we decided that we had to look forward in terms of performance and the key way to see how good a car is, is to have a good driver,” he said. Raikkonen said he was pleased with the welcome he received at the team’s base yesterday, and that he was feeling relaxed about the task ahead. “It is my first time in Enstone,” he said, “so it is very nice to see the factory - it feels good. It is a very warm feeling and I’m very relaxed. “I haven’t really read the newspapers about all the excitement but it is quite normal, isn’t it? It doesn’t put any more pressure on me. I always try to do my best, so I don’t put myself under pressure. It will be exciting, yes, but no pressure really and we will see how it goes.”
