LOS ANGELES - “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara is the highest-paid US TV actress for the third year in a row, earning some $37 million, according to a 2014 list published Wednesday. The 42-year-old earned significantly more than the top paid actor, Ashton Kutcher, who made some $26 million, according to Forbes magazine, known for celebrity and other rich lists. The Colombian-born actress -- who literally stood on a pedestal at this year’s Emmy awards -- reportedly makes $325,000 an episode for “Mod-

ern Family,” but earns much more from endorsements including being the face of Diet Pepsi. LOS ANGELES - George Clooney is to direct a film about the British phone hacking scandal, the studio behind the project announced Wednesday. “Hack Attack” will be based on the book of the same name by Guardian journalist Nick Davies about the hacking scandal surrounding Rupert Murdoch’s news empire, which triggered the demise of its weekly News of the World. “This has all the elements -- lying, corruption, blackmail -- at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London,” Clooney said, in a statement released by Sony Pictures. “And the fact that it’s true is the best part. Nick is a brave and stubborn reporter and we consider it an honor to put his book to film,” he added. Michael De Luca of Columbia Pictures added: “As the son of a journalist, George has a sharp interest in the role journalism plays in all of our lives. “With ‘Hack Attack,’ George will explore the dark side of that world, a

business where all of the rules of journalism are broken in the race for an easy and ever-larger payday,” he added. Shooting on the new movie will begin next year, Sony said. A number of hoteliers and restaurateurs have asked the government to rearrange and repair the beach. In addition, the impact of fish bombing and massive coral mining has aggravated the condition of Candidasa. Pursuant to the data of the Karangasem Culture and Tourism Agency, the number of tourist

arrival in Candidasa attraction fluctuated each year. In 2009, the number of tourist arrival reached

2,865 people. Meanwhile, in 2013 the number slumped to 1,667 people. Even, in 2012 it dropped drastically to 332 people. The decline in the number of tourist arrival in Candidasa was perceived by local hoteliers and restaurateurs. A member of the Indonesia Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) of Karangasem Chapter doubling as legislator of Karangasem, I Nyoman Sadra, acknowledged the decline

in the number of tourist arrival to Karangasem, mainly to Candidasa. “A number of hotels are in sluggish condition because their handling guests were only some few,” he said. Nyoman Sadra revealed the problem related to the decreasing amount of tourist arrival was caused by the destruction to the charms of Candidasa, especially in the matter of coastal areas. It is based on consideration that from January to August 2014 a total of more than one hundred disasters are recorded to threaten the region known as the center of the arts. Total losses are estimated to reach billions of rupiahs. Based on the data of the Gianyar Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the disaster occurred from January to August 2014 reached 101 cases. Fire was the most frequent disaster, amounting to 41 cases. Then, landslide occurred at 30 locations and tornado amounted to 30 incidents. In addition, flooding also occurred for several times as well as the case of

drowning in the sea. The Head of Gianyar Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, AA Oka Digjaya, said on Wednesday (Sep 3) that his party would seek to intensively optimize the disaster prevention. Within four months ahead, his party predicted the three subdistricts such as Ubud, Tegallalang and Sukawati would be prone to landslides. “We will increase alertness, always give a warning and update information,” he said. Responding to the high rates of fire incidents, the government would add two fire stations, respectively in Ubud and Sukawati. Meanwhile, two trucks would be added in 2015. “Nowadays, we have six units of fire truck and two more units will be added in 2015. Later, we will have totally eight units of fire truck,” he said. A German tourist arrests thief specially targeting foreigners Bali Post

DENPASAR - Reiner Gloekner, 59, a German national arrested a thief on Jalan Tirtaning, Sanur, South Denpasar, Friday (Aug 29). The culprit was none other than the suspect Moh. Nur Khalim, 30, from Jember, East Java. After the case was developed by police, the suspect in fact had taken action at 9 scenes in Sanur, North Kuta and West Denpasar. “Most of his victims were foreign citizens. Besides, the suspect also broke in an empty house,” said the Chief of South Denpasar Police, Nanang Prihasmoko, Tuesday (Sep 3). Disclosure of the case began approximately at 10:45 a.m. where the victim came to a project site on Jalan Tirtaning, Sanur. Furthermore, the victim living at the area of Takmung village, Klungkung, put his backpack on the table of security station at the project. “At the time, the victim had the need to urinate. After putting his bag, he came into the bathroom,” added Nanang. When going out of the bathroom, the victim saw a man

taking his bag. The victim immediately called out for help while chasing the thief. “Incidentally the patrol police personnel passed at the location and then joined to chase the suspect. We managed to arrest the suspect and he was immediately taken to police station,” said the former Chief of Kerambitan Police, Tabanan. In addition to arresting the suspect from Jember, the officer also secured the evidence in the form of backpack containing a camera, books and project documents. The case was developed and the suspect was investigated intensively. To the officer, the suspect claimed to have taken action in Sanur for 4 times, North Kuta for 4 times and once in West Denpasar. He was targeting empty homes and travelers putting their luggage carelessly. “Foreign travelers usually put their goods in a vehicle or motorcycle. It became the target of the suspect. BANGLI - Regent of Bangli, Made Gianyar, claimed that he preferred supporting the airport development plan in Northern Bali to supporting the Benoa Bay reclamation. If the airport development plan in Kubutambahan, Northern Bali, can be realized, the regent had confidence that the dormant Bangli would get positive impacts. It was revealed by Made Gianyar. According to Made Gianyar, the realization of the airport development plan in Kubutambahan region would certainly have an impact on the development of Bangli in several aspects. If the plan could actually be realized, the public access from Southern Bali to Northern Bali passing through Bangli would turn more crowded. “Actually I tend to support the development of airport in Kubutambahan area, Northern Bali. It can revive the access between Northern Bali and Southern Bali through Bangli compared to the reclamation. The reclamation will further burden Southern Bali. Not to mention that the development will take a lot of sand, so the quarry location of Bangli will be damaged,” he explained. Thus, added Gianyar, if it was an

option, he would prefer the construction of the airport in Northern Bali. “Yes, if it can be an option. Definitely, we support the governor and central government to accelerate the airport development in Northern Bali,” he added. Earlier, the ad interim Chairman of the Bangli House, Ngakan Kutha Parwata, also acknowledged that the airport development plan to be carried out in Northern Bali would not only be fresh air for the people of Buleleng, but also for the people of Bangli. If it could really happen, indirectly Bangli would have the impact. Bangli that was quite devoid of development all this time would be visited by a variety of investments, especially tourism investment. However, behind the fresh

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

NY Fashion Week kicks off a day early with Athleta

NEW YORK — New York Fashion Week kicked off a day early Wednesday with a heavy breathing show of strength and style from the performance brand Athleta, a salute to the fashion challenges of returning U.S. servicewomen and models tucked into the horse-drawn carriages of Central Park. More than 100 designers are scheduled to show their springsummer 2015 collections in the Mercedes-Benz tents at Lincoln Center and other New York venues. The eight-day event kicks off the season, with the industry moving on to London, followed by Milan and Paris, when the New York shows conclude. At Wednesday night’s “Salute the Runway,” little black dresses took on a military twist as female veterans took to the runway in frocks designed by Donna Karan, Carmen Marc Valvo, Mara Hoffman and eight other designers. Several of the women jauntily saluted as they finished strutting the catwalk; Capt. Kelly Smith, a helicopter pilot in the Air National Guard from Los Angeles, danced down the runway in a full-length Mara Hoffman gown. The show was part of an initiative to raise awareness of the fashion and style challenges these veterans face when transitioning back to civilian life. At Athleta’s show earlier in the day, a flying female tethered to

wires did some air running above a stark white stage at the activewear company’s first-ever — and high energy — show. She was joined by break-dancers, yoga stretchers and mini-trampoline jumpers in printed and solid tights, running pants, athletic bras, sweatshirts and a new dry-down technology the brand has just put into quilted vests and bomber jackets. Karan’s work around the world aimed at fostering sustainable economies, creating jobs and developing art education were cited for the honor. Her foundation, Urban Zen, develops markets and presents the work of artisans in Haiti in the U.S. and elsewhere. She has designed and curated an

artisan collection called “Naturally Haiti,” working with artisans who create recycled T-shirts, handbags, tobacco leaf vases, wood chandeliers and horn jewelry sold in Urban Zen stores and her retail partners. Urban Zen has a partnership with artisan Paula Coles in Haiti for a vocational education training center to open next spring in Port-au-Prince. The Jokowi-JK government plans to double the number of tourist arrivals in the next five years from 10 million to 20 million or an average annual increase of 20 percent. He pointed out that such a minister must be able to work on promoting the country’s tourism potential in markets abroad and drawing foreign tourists to visit Indonesia. “This is important because due to the lack of supporting facilities and infrastructure, not many regions in Indonesia are ready to welcome foreign tourists,” stated Surakusuma, better known as Gus Lolec. Therefore, he was of the viewpoint that the tourism minister should have adequate promotional funds to enable him or her to make a strategic breakthrough in the global tourism industry. DENPASAR - Bank Indonesia (BI) office for Bali and Nusa Tenggara provinces launched electronic money as part of non-cash national movement at Udayana University (Unud) on Thursday. “We hope students can familiarize the public (with this electronic money) so they will be eager to use non-cash transactions,” head of the Bank Indonesia office Benny Siswanto said at the Udayana University campus. BI is teaming up with stateowned lenders BNI, Mandiri and BRI as well as privately-run BCA in carrying out the program, he said. The program will be carried out in Bali in stages, Benny said asking the management of the banks to ex-

pand non-cash transaction services in the tourist island. The electronic money looks the same as debit card. Holders of the electronic money can refill the card at automated teller machines (ATMs) operated by the banks or electronic debit card (EDC) machines at commercial shops appointed by the banks. Unud Rector Prof Dr I Ketut Suastika stated the electronic money will make it easier for the people to conduct transactions because they no longer need to bring a large sum of banknotes. “Many people now tend to make electronic transactions. TABANAN - A single accident occurred again on Denpasar-Gilimanuk skull track, precisely on the ascending road at Lumajang hamlet, Samsam village, Kerambitan subdistrict, Wednesday (Sep 3). A Fuso truck with license plate P 9187 UV carrying excessive freight rolled over because it was not strong enough to pass through the ascending section. Although it claimed no fatalities, the consumer goods in the truck scattered onto the road and slightly disrupted the traffic in the lane. Moreover, position of the truck body hindered the traffic. From information gathered at the scene, the truck driven by Sastro Irawan, 33, from Banyuwangi and Mohammad Noah was traveling from Gilimanuk to Denpasar. At that time, in front of the Fuso truck speeded an unidentified medium truck (Colt Diesel).

TOKYO — Japan is seeking international support for its plans to hunt minke whales in the Antarctic Ocean next year by scaling down the whaling research program the U.N. top court rejected earlier this year, fisheries officials said Wednesday. Whaling for research purposes is exempt from the 1986 international ban on commercial whaling, and Japan has conducted hunts in the Antarctic and Pacific on that basis. But in March, the International Court of Justice ruled the Antarctic program wasn’t scientific as Japan had claimed and must stop. Japan’s Fisheries Agency is working on a revised program to be submitted to the International Whaling Commission’s scientific committee around November. The agency will announce its intention and basic plan at the Sept. 15-18 IWC meeting in Slovenia and will continue to finalize catch targets and other details over the next few weeks. The new program will address the problems cited by the court, an agency official said on condition of anonymity, citing department rules. The court said Japan’s Antarctic program produced little actual research and failed to

explain why it needed to kill so many whales for the study. Approval from the IWC’s scientific committee isn’t mandatory, but any attempt by Japan to resume whaling would be likely to face intense scrutiny over whether it complies with the court ruling. Japan also plans to no longer hunt fin and humpback whales, after hardly catching any of those two species in the past nine years. After steadily fulfilling its Antarctic catch target of 440 for 17 years, Japan more than doubled it to 935 minke whales in 2005. It came close to the target only the following year and has fallen since, mainly because the demand for whale meat has declined significantly at home. The government also has had to keep spending tax money to sustain whaling operators. Violent protests by anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd also contributed to the declining catch. During the 2013-14 season, Japan caught 251 minke whales in the Antarctic, or just a quarter of its target, and 224 others in the northern Pacific program, which isn’t as controversial. Japan also hunts more than 160 whales along its coast, outside of the IWC oversight.

President Richard Nixon was seeking re-election and Lennon was in New York facing deportation from a Nixon administration eager to disrupt the famous ex-Beatle’s planned concert tour and voter registration drive. The case hinged on Lennon’s 1968 conviction for possession of “cannabis resin” in London. Lennon was eager to at least delay his deportation so Ono could fight for custody of her 9-year-old daughter by a previous husband. Lennon and Ono approached Leon Wildes, a young lawyer who knew his immigration law. In time, the effort to extend Lennon’s stay in the United States would become an integral part of the legal foundation the Obama administration relied on in 2012 to set up a program that has deferred the deportation of more than 580,000 immigrants who entered the country illegally as children. “All I can say is, John Lennon is smiling in his grave,” Wildes said in an interview. “He helped accomplish that.” The extent of Obama’s legal authority is now central to the White House deliberations over what else Obama can do — and when — without congressional action to reduce deportations and give many of the 11 million immigrants

BRUSSELS - The European Union fined Infineon, Philips and Samsung a total of 138 million euros (181 million dollars) on Wednesday for fixing the prices of smartcard chips, in its latest anti-trust case against technology firms. The German, Dutch and South Korean companies “colluded” between 2003 and 2005 to form the cartel on the chips, which are widely used in mobile phones, bank cards and passports, the European Commission said in a statement. Japan’s Renesas was granted immunity for revealing the existence of the cartel to the commission, which began its investigation in 2008 with raids on the companies. Infineon Technologies AG was fined 82.7 million euros, Philips 20.1 million euros, and Samsung 35.1 million euros, with the latter having its penalty reduced by 30 percent for having cooperated with investigators. Rejecting the allegations as “un-

founded,” both Infineon and Philips said they would appeal the decision. The companies “in our view knew that their conduct was illegal,” said Joaquin Almunia, the commission’s vice president in charge of competition policy. They “discussed and exchanged sensitive commercial information on pricing, customers, contract negotiations, production capacity or capacity utilisation and their future market conduct,” the com-

mission said. Almunia added that “in this digital era smart card chips are used by almost everybody, whether in their mobile phones, bank cards or passports.” Companies producing them should be focused on being competitive, he said, adding: “If instead companies choose to collude, at the expense of both customers and end consumers, they should expect sanctions.” The commission said that Renesas and its joint-venture parent companies Hitachi and Mitsbubishi had avoided a fine of more than 51 million euros because it was the first to reveal the existence of the cartel to the EU. It said that Philips “remains liable for what happened during the period of infringement” even though it has since divested its

smart card chips business. Anyone harmed by the cartel may seek damages before the courts of the European member states, the commission said. Infineon said from its base in Neubiberg, Germany, that it will review the decision and is “ready to appeal” at the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg. It said it had conducted its own thorough probe and “concluded that none of its personnel acted improperly in handling competitively sensitive information” about smartcard chips. In Amsterdam, senior Philips press officer Steve Klink told AFP that his company would appeal the decision as “we firmly believe that claims of anti-competitive behaviour by the former Philips smart card chips business are unfounded.”

The EU has previously fined US computer chip giant Intel 1.06 billion euros for abusing its dominant market position. In another case, following accusations it was squeezing out competitors in Europe’s search market, Google, the world’s largest search engine, reached a tentative deal with the Commission in which it would display rivals’ links more prominently and avoid a fine of up to five billion euros. Brussels launched its investigation of Google in November 2010 following a complaint by several companies, including Microsoft. The case remains open as Almunia said his staff were “now analysing the responses” to the deal with Google that were received over the summer from 18 of the 20 plaintiffs.

BERLIN — Samsung unveiled two smartphones and a virtualreality headset Wednesday in a bid to draw consumer attention before its fierce rival, Apple, announces its holiday lineup next week. Samsung, whose phones have gotten progressively larger each year, has decided that bigger isn’t better this time. Instead, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 retains the 5.7-inch screen of last year’s model, but adds a speedier processor, a better screen, better cameras and software to fit more people into selfies. The announcement at the IFA trade show in Berlin comes as Samsung’s smartphone sales fell 4 percent in the second quarter, compared with a year ago, even though it launched the Galaxy S5 in April. According to IDC, Samsung’s share of the global smartphone market fell 7 percentage points to 25 percent. “Samsung needs the Galaxy Note 4 to be a hit,” said Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight. “It has to make up some of the ground it lost as a result of the relatively poor reception to the all-plastic Galaxy S5.” Wood said the new metal-based design of the Note 4 could offer the kind of premium look and feel that Samsung needs to compete with Apple’s much-anticipated

GIANYAR - The Gianyar Manpower and Resettlement Agency performed an inspection to foreign workers (TKA) at three business premises, Wednesday (Sep 1). In the inspection, most of the companies employing foreign workers still had the Foreign Worker Employment Permit (IMTA) issued by Bali Province. The Gianyar Manpower Agency found an expatriate having a double workplace permit whereas the expatriate was only working in Gianyar. The inspection and data collection team was led by the Head of Gianyar Manpower and Resettlement Agency, Gede Widarma Suharta, accompanied by the Division Head of Placement and Extension Ketut Suartha Ekarwa and his staff. They inspected Amandari Hotel at Kedewatan and Gaya Ceramic and Design on Jalan Raya Sayan, Ubud. At Amandari Hotel was found a foreign worker with the Foreign Worker Employment Permit issued by Bali Province. The team found irregularities in the Foreign Worker Employment Plan (RPTKA) issued by Bali Province. It mentioned the workplace was in three counties namely Gianyar, Karangasem and Badung. In fact, the foreign worker from Japan only worked at the Amandari Hotel located in Gianyar. Similar case also happened to Gaya Ceramic and Design located on Jalan Raya Sayan, Ubud. The company em-

ployed two foreign workers with the permit issued by Bali Province. Actually, they clearly worked in Gianyar only, not in multiple counties. Responding to the case, according to the Head of Gianyar Manpower and Resettlement Agency it was obviously detrimental in terms of income because the employer was supposed to submit the permit in the region where the expatriate worked. Meanwhile, Human Resources Manager of Amandari Hotel, I Made Widia, admitted to just know if the extension permit services of Foreign Worker Employment Permit had been available in Gianyar since September 2014. All this time, the hotel management submitted and paid the obligation to Bali Province. “Obviously, we have met our obligation in obtaining the permit for the foreign worker employment,” he claimed while asking for the correct procedures to the

government. Related to the Foreign Worker Employment Plan, the workplace was written at three locations. According to Made Widia, he did not know exactly about it. No foreign workers employed at Amandari also worked elsewhere. Amandari Hotel under the management of PT Villa Ayu only had the property in Gianyar. Meanwhile, the Human Resources Department of Gaya Ceramic and Design, Sayan, Ubud, Sujiliawati told the team that her party only employed two foreign workers with the position as Director and Commissioner. They had processed the Foreign Worker Employment Permit through an agency in Bali, although in reality they only worked in Gianyar and did not work elsewhere. “These happened because we lacked of information and submitted it through an agency. Further, we will comply with the existing rules,” she said. Meanwhile, as of September 1, 2014 the Regional Bylaw No.8/2014 regarding the extension levy of Foreign Worker Employment Permit had been enacted. TABANAN - Restricted land area at Mandung landfill and overloaded waste caused the Tabanan government to think hard in order that it could resolve the problem. In addition to processing the organic and inorganic waste directly at Mandung landfill, the Tabanan government also established a community-driven waste bank. The Head of Tabanan Environment Agency, AAN Raka Icwara W, when met on Wednesday (Sep 3), said that Tabanan currently had 13 units of waste bank. The waste bank program of Tabanan was launched in 2012. In fact, the tasks were not only limited to managing the organic waste into fertilizer or sorting inorganic waste to be further processed but also raising public awareness for environmental care. Raka admitted that within the past two years, the waste bank in Tabanan had not generated a significant effect on the volume of waste sent to landfill. It was still hampered by the lack of public awareness in sorting organic and inorganic waste. Yet, according to Raka, sorting the organic and inorganic waste would provide economic benefits for households. On that account, the waste bank was expected to change people’s mindset so that they could sort their waste and manage it all at once. On the other hand, the waste bank in Tabanan was still operating on a small scale. However, the waste bank located in Kediri had been able to process waste in large scale. “The Tabanan Serasi waste bank in Kediri has even been able to produce large quantities of organic fertilizer and it is distributed to subak members in Tabanan,” said Raka. In the future, to reduce the volume of waste to landfill, Tabanan would increase the number of waste bank, especially in rural areas as well as develop organic and inorganic waste management to households. “Organic waste can be processed into fertilizer, while the inorganic one such plastic bag and plastic bottles can be sold again. We want to promote this to the household,” said Raka. Meanwhile, the separation of organic and inorganic waste was also performed at the Mandung landfill. For collection and processing of organic waste, the Mandung landfill employed six workers. The Section Head of Waste Processing of Tabanan Sanitation and Landscape Agency (DKP), IGN Mayun Muliawan, explained that the workers collected leaf rubbish and then processed it into fertilizer. “We have a machine for chopping leaves and 7 cabins for fermentation process of the organic waste into fertilizer,” said Mayun. The fermentation process took place for a month. Then, the organic fertilizer collected in the chamber reached 7-11 sacks. This result was then utilized for urban parks and the communities in need. Meanwhile, the sorting process of the inorganic waste at the Mandung landfill was handled by 17 workers. The organic waste re-collected was plastic bags whose condition remained good. “Plastic bag of clear color has more expensive re-selling price,” said Mayun. The plastic bags collected would be taken to a wholesaler located at Tanah Bang. Admittedly the Tabanan community had not been aware of sorting the organic and inorganic waste. It could be seen from the mixed waste dumped to landfill. “On that account, the workers were quite difficult to sort them,” said Mayun. (kmb24)

SRINAGAR, India — An overcrowded bus carrying wedding guests was swept away Thursday by a flooded stream in the Indianheld portion of Kashmir and about 70 people were missing, a state official said. Rescuers were searching for the bus but had not been able to locate it in the gushing waters, said Shantmanu, who uses only one name. The passengers were on their way to a wedding ceremony in a village in the Rajouri region, about 180 kilometers (110 miles) southwest of Srinagar, the main city in the Indian-held portion of Kashmir. The bus reportedly had a capacity of only 54 people. Shantmanu said rescue efforts were being hampered by heavy rain and strong currents. The region’s wedding season has been disrupted by heavy rains and the worst floods in 22 years, and many ceremonies have been postponed. At least 14 people have died in the past two days, and authorities closed schools and colleges and

stopped train services in the area on Thursday. Meteorologists said the heavy rains were likely to continue for another two days. Police officer Imtiyaz Hussain said the 14 victims were swept away by floodwaters or buried by mud from mountain slopes. They included a paramilitary officer whose bunker collapsed on him. Landslides and floods are common in India during the monsoon season, which runs from June through September. Parts of Srinagar were also flooded. In Bemina, a large neighborhood, thousands of residents waded through ankle-high water that entered their homes. Donington Park to host 2015 MotoGP

Donington Park will host the MotoGP British Grand Prix in 2015 after agreeing a deal with the Circuit of Wales to take the race for one season. The new Welsh venue took the British GP slot from Silverstone last month, and it was immediately revealed that a replacement track would be required for 2015 while work begins on the Circuit of Wales. DORTMUND, Germany — Borussia Dortmund and Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin has been ruled out of action for an estimated two months after a knee operation. The Bundesliga club says on its website that Sahin underwent surgery on Wednesday, when doctor HeinzJuergen Eichhorn removed inflamed tissue from his left knee.
