Ridiculous questions about the funniness and bankability of women have clouded exactly what’s going on here: Nobody is a better comedic actor right now than Melissa McCarthy. She’s a combustible ball of comic fury rolled up in Chaplinesque sweetness, equally capable of profanitylaced verbal virtuosity as perfectly timed pratfalls. In her latest, the espionage comedy “Spy,” McCarthy dons a host of identities, a closet full of wigs and — in order to stay undercover but really just to switch things up — essentially changes her entire performance midway through. It’s a globe-trotting tour of McCarthy’s talent, throughout which she’s practically always kicking butt. Who was that double-O-what’s-his-face, anyway? “Spy” is the third collaboration between McCarthy and director Paul Feig, who first came together on “Bridesmaids,” and followed that up with the very solid buddy comedy “The Heat,” with Sandra Bullock. They’re soon to embark on a female-led update of “Ghostbusters,” too, which is fitting because their partnership is beginning to resemble that of Bill Murray and Ivan Reitman. Everything they’ve done, starting with the sensation of “Bridesmaids,” has been surrounded with both justi-
fied praise and tiresome overemphasis on the female-ness of their enterprise. “Spy,” too, is in many ways a great inversion of the Bond world, casting men like Jude Law as the eye candy on the side while the center of the movie is played out between women: McCarthy and Rose Byrne’s snobbish, high-couture villain. McCarthy plays Susan Cooper, a contentedly desk-bound CIA operative accustom to aiding far more elegant and suave field agents like the tuxedoclad Bradley Fine (Law, a one-time Bond candidate enjoying the brief fantasy of virtually playing the super spy). While Fine pursues supervillains at a Bulgaria casino, she’s whispering in his earpiece, monitoring above from a drone and swooning over his out-ofreach glamour. Cooper, though, is far away in a Langley headquarters cubical, where the immediate concerns are more humdrum: mouse droppings and birthday cakes. Feig lingers perhaps a tad too long in the film’s first section, but it’s to a purpose: “Spy” is in many ways a workplace comedy about the indignities a capable women must suffer in a male-dominated profession. When well-to-do arms dealer Rayna Boyanov (Byrne) outs all of the CIA’s field agents, Cooper volunteers to go undercover. But the big promotion isn’t all she dreamed of: When prepared for her covert gig,
she’s handed no poison-firing Rolex or a souped-up Porsche, but gadgets hidden in fungal spray and hemorrhoid wipes. Her fake identity isn’t much more exotic: Carole Jenkins, mother of four. Once in Europe, Cooper, outfitted as a tourist, is completely out of place in the “Casino Royale”-like realm of elite espionage. It’s a world that surely doubles for superficial Hollywood, where those who resemble McCarthy are seldom let under the velvet rope. At one high-priced dinner, she blurts an order of wine “with the grit of a hummus.” An agent shadowing her, Richard Ford (Jason Statham) resents her intrusion, while another, the absurdly passionate Italian agent Aldo (Peter Serafinowicz) continually gropes her. Statham nearly steals the film by playing a parody of his own grave, gonzo persona, popping up occasionally to attempt wildly unsuccessful feats of action stardom. The cast, generally, is likable, rounded out with British comedian Miranda Hart as a fellow desk agent and Bobby Cannavale as a terrorist trying to acquire a nuke. “Spy,” a 20th Century Fox release, is rated R for “language throughout, violence, and some sexual content including brief graphic nudity.” Running time: 122 minutes. Bali now stands at a crossroads, facing the choice between remaining ‘conservative’ and continuing to base its tourism on culture, or choosing a more dynamic form of development in this new era. Chairman of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali, Dr. Cok Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati AKA Cok Ace said that the former Minister of Tourism, Joop Ave predicted the current condition of Bali tourism in 1990’s when he said that Kuta tourism would dominate the island. “We must not allow this type of tourism to spread to the whole is-
land, but Kuta should be maintained according to its own development is what Mr. Joop expressed. Similar condition are also happening in Ubud, let it be, if anything we should improve the quality of Ubud as a cultural destination,” said Cok Ace after sharing a morning coffee with the Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, in the Bali Tourism Board office on Wednesday
(Jun 3). Cok Ace did not dismiss the fact that there has been alot of deviation from the concept of cultural tourism, adding that Bali still depends on culture to survive. Regardign the government policy of setting a target of 30 million travellers in 2019, the former Gianyar regent said that he considers this policy contrary to the concept of cultural tourism. “In my opinion, the concept of Balinese culture must not be changed. With cultural as the basis for tourism, there must be a limited amount of people visiting the island, enough but not too many, the like in Raja Ampat. In the 1990s,
there were only three rafting companies who sold tickets for USD 68. Now, there are 14 companies, and the tickets only cost USD 20,” he continued. Cok Ace added there must be specific areas that are closed to development and guests as well as specific areas that designated for development and the receiving of guests. Therefor he has suggested that a focus group discuss the two sides of the issue so that the problem of tourism in Bali can be resolved for today and for the future. “Therefore, intellectuals, thinkers and humanists must sit down and with the understanding that one way or another the tourism is the lynchpin of our economy now and in the future and can therefore not be dismiss. but also that this does not mean that tourism is not facing some difficult challenges. Dengue cases, Indonesia ranked second in the world
DENPASAR - Around the world, about 70 percent of the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) victims are from Asia and Indonesia is hyper-endemic to the case. So, in addition to affecting health it also greatly affects the economy of the country. “Indonesia is ranked second in the world in terms of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) case,” said Louisa Jessica, planning manager of PT. Sanofi Pasteur, Wednesday (Jun 3) during a press conference of the ASEAN Dengue Day (ADD) in the office of the Bali Health Agency. She continued that dengue is a disease most easily and rapidly spreading. DHF is quite serious because it is a tropical disease considering that Indonesia also has tropical climate, being hot throughout the year. In Bali, from January to April 2015 there are 5,249 cases, with remaining high Incident Rate (IR) compared to other provinces in Indonesia, namely 127/100,000 population. However, the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in Bali has reduced to below one percent. The Head of the Bali Health Agency, Ketut Suarjaya, accompanied by his Secretary, I Made Adi Wiguna, and the Division Head of Disease Control, I Nyoman Sudiasa, explained that actually the handling of dengue cases requires the commitment of all parties, both the government and all walks of life to participate in mosquito nest eradication (PSN). “Since dengue stays a health prob-
lem, then the efforts must be made together and given a priority,” he said. Suarjaya confirmed that the
treatment of DHF will be most effective when it is accompanied with public participation because without public participation, it will not succeed. Several factors influence the spread of dengue, namely population density, population mobility

Mosquito eggs can survive up to six months, so that as soon as it rains or there is water, then the eggs will hatch. “Mosquitoes can lay egg 100-200 pieces,” he said. It can be imagined, if the nest eradication is only done by fogging, it will only kill adult mosquitoes, while the 100-200 eggs will hatch into mosquitoes. “Nest eradication is not enough just by fogging, but it must also be done comprehensively by eradicating all mosquito life cycles from larvae, eggs to adult mosquitoes,” he said. At the larva stage, the nest eradication can be done by manual steps namely draining, covering up and taking advantage of secondhand goods. Chemically, larvae is eradicated by applying abate powder in water reservoir, while biologically it is done by the provision of larvae-eating fish. Alternatively, we can use repellent, mosquito coils and mosquito nets as well as install wire netting et cetera. “Nest eradication efforts must be done constantly and simultaneously in all regions in Bali,” he affirmed. Mitigation of the epidemic dengue disease is made by performing active and passive surveillance. “Active surveillance is done on people affected by dengue, while passive surveillance by waiting for patient to public health facility,” he said. men from Bitera, Gianyar. A craftsman from Tusan Tangkas village, Klungkung, Wayan Mudiantara, 45, claimed to have been flooded with the orders of penjor accessories from a week ago. The crafts made with the help of his brother have a variety of models ranging from the cheapest to most expensive price. He also provides the whole penjor paraphernalia, ranging from lanterns, kolong-kolong and rice to sampian festoons. He sells the products at varied prices depending on the size and complexity of
the making. To meet the demand ahead of Galungan, he has prepared the craft products worth IDR 50 million. Limited capital makes him unable to meet the market demands much less the capital he gets from loans. “We can only prepare the product stocks worth IDR 50 million,” said the man having made craft since five years ago. In order to be able to meet the current needs of Galungan, he is forced to look for the products to Bitera village, Gianyar, having been famous for the center of
ritual paraphernalia. Limited capital is strongly felt by craftsmen because they must purchase raw materials with cash payment. From a number of accessories available, the lanterns of penjor are mostly targeted by consumers. Wayan Mudiantara claimed to be able to make lanterns like the creation of artisans in Gianyar just by looking from the photograph. “I continue to be creative in order to make the lanterns as attractive as possible. When there is penjor competition in Gianyar I took pictures and immediately made

Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

BREGANZE, Italy - John Galliano, the star designer sacked by Dior for a drunken anti-Semitic rant, has been successfully rebuilding both himself and the Maison Margiela fashion brand since he took over its helm in October, said the man who gave him the job. Diesel founder Renzo Rosso, chairman and main shareholder of Maison Margiela’s parent OTB group, said sales were already up 20 percent at the fashion house even though only a few of Galliano’s pieces had so far reached the shelves. Galliano, widely hailed as one of the most talented designers of his generation, fell from grace in 2011 after a video went viral of him drunk in a Paris bar, saying “I love Hitler” and telling a couple their ancestors should have been gassed. Galliano blamed addiction to drugs and alcohol for the rant, said the remarks did not represent
his real views and went through a public period of rehabilitation sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League, a charity that fights antiSemitism. He emerged with a job at Oscar de la Renta in New York in 2013 before Rosso tapped him last year to take over the house founded by Martin Margiela, a designer known for being as self-effacing as Galliano is flamboyant. “John is a real pro, I am so happy to have him,” Rosso told Reuters at his company’s headquarters, an hour’s drive from Venice. “He is a not a designer but a couturier and has great pyramidal thinking - turning couture concepts into ready-to-wear clothing and accessories,” added the tattooed 59-year-old Italian entrepreneur. Galliano’s appointment raised eyebrows last year, not only because of his controversial past but also because of the contrast between
his persona and that of Maison Margiela’s reclusive founder. Martin Margiela did not stitch his name on his products, never took a bow after runway shows and refused to be interviewed or photographed. He disappeared from public life and gave up fashion after resigning in 2009. Sources have told Reuters he is now living incognito in Paris, spending most of his time painting. It seemed an odd fit for the famously preening Galliano, but the fashion industry seems to have embraced both the British-born designer’s repentance and his new role at a house with a decidedly different profile than his own. This week’s edition of Paris Match, the best-selling French weekly magazine, carries on its cover a photo of lawyer Amal Clooney, the media-darling wife of film star George, in a red dress designed by Galliano for Maison Margiela. Rosso said he thought of hiring
Galliano the minute he got sacked from Dior and from his own brand John Galliano, which is still controlled by Dior, part of the LVMH group. Sales at Margiela now exceeded 100 million euros ($110 million), Rosso said. The brand has been profitable since 2013, after more than a decade under OTB (Only the Brave) ownership. Before tapping Galliano, Rosso said he consulted Martin Margiela who enthusiastically endorsed his choice. “Martin told me I could not give his brand a better present as Galliano was the designer he admired the most,” Rosso said. Margiela met Galliano for hours in Paris, giving him guidance but telling him of the brand: “make it your own,” Rosso said. Rosso, one of Italy’s richest men, made his fortune with the stonewashed brand Diesel he founded in 1978, which he grew with off-the
wall ad campaigns. One featured a woman in a denim burqa, another had two male sailors kissing, and another showed a model on a giant cigarette with the slogan “how to smoke 145 a day”. Two years ago, he hired Lady Gaga’s former stylist, Nicola Formichetti, to “reboot” the fashion label. Now he is preparing a new ad campaign with Formichetti, who has worked a lot on Diesel’s core products such as jeans and leather jackets, but he said it would not be as provocative as in the past. “Today, I cannot be as crazy as I was before,” Rosso said. “The world has changed. “Year-on-year, the foreign exchange earned increased 2.91 percent. Last year, the export of fish and shrimps produced US$9.98 million,” Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Panasunan Siregar said on Thursday. He added that the export of fish and shrimps contributed 21.22 percent to Bali’s total export value, which reached US$48.42 million in April, a 4.44 percent drop from that in March, when it reached US$50.67 million. Fish and shrimp are two of the five major export commodities of Bali, besides non-knitted clothing, jewelry (gems), wooden products and furniture, as well as home lighting. According to Siregar, the United States has the highest demand for fish and shrimp from Bali, absorbing 31.95 percent of the total exports, followed by Japan at 18.91 percent and Australia at 5.48
percent. Other markets of Bali’s fish and shrimp are Singapore at 1 percent, Hong Kong at 5.92 percent, Spain at 3.49 percent, the Netherlands at 0.44 percent, Thailand at 6.59 percent, Germany at 0.31 percent, and France at 0.28 percent. The remaining export value of 25.53 percent penetrates markets of a number of other countries as the quality of Bali’s fisheries products, especially tuna and shrimp, is competitive in foreign markets, Siregar pointed out. In the first four months of 2015, 499,258 live ornamental fish worth US$1.07 million, among others, were part of fisheries and marine products that were exported to foreign markets. This marks a 9.59 percent rise over that in the same period last year, when it was recorded at 457,826 fish worth US$982,740.
Bali’s prime fish export is tuna, which brings in the highest revenue of US$25.55 million, followed by snapper at US$1.88 million, grouper at US$5.27 million, other fish at US$7.20 million, and shrimps at US$878,484 million. Moreover, the Bali provincial administration enhances the development of the maritime and fisheries sector by providing outboard engine boats to fishermen so they can increase their catch, among other measures. According to Head of Bali’s Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office Made Gunaja, the province has great potential for fisheries. However, it is quite difficult to boost production due to lack of catching equipment. The fisheries potential in Bali is some 147 thousand tons annually. In 2014, catch in the province amounted to 108 thousand tons. (ant)

SANUR – Due to tough, windy conditions, Sanur Reef was chosen on the eleventh hour to take the setting for the first leg of the Billabong Grommet Attack 2015 series. But as surfers, we are all well aware that Mother Nature can change her mind without notice, and unfortunately, the predicated strong south swell failed to show up. “Ok, so there is wind on this side of the island this time of year” said proud father Rizal Tandjung, “these kids are going to have to learn how to compete in challenging conditions sometime”. And indeed they did, with verve and determination, having to be boated out to the distant line-up and then left to paddle in. “That is the physical education element of this contest” laughed parent Cacho Izquierdo, “It’ll put a little meat on their bones”. The most popular event of the day was the Push-In competition. Despite the mighty-might size of the competitors in this division, our young ones surfed with the earnestness of heavy weight boxers. with Westren Hirst taking first place with style far beyond his years. Moving to arguably the toughest conditions of the day, the girls in the division went at it like Spartans and on to a very surprising result. In the end, the winning title was separated by only .04 of a point; and it was a blond Summa Longbottom who triumphed over Taina for the narrow win. The Under 14 Boys division was clearly the hardest fought final. Despite Ben Benson’s flashy off the lips, it was Waida’s steady
wave selection that wore the young star down for the win. Waida, with canny and able surfing, surfed a mature final to defeat Benson by over 9 points. While over at the Under 16 Boys, the results were fairly predictable with Raju Sena dominating the final with his lengthy height and power. Sumbawa’s Andre Anwar, who badly needed this win to impress his sponsors, attempted a spirited assault, but the waves just didn’t come his way “That’s ok” Said Anwar, “I’ll get him next time”. Air Sanih spring use to resolve water crisis in East Buleleng
SINGARAJA - Clean water issues experienced by residents in the eastern region of Buleleng seem to be immediately resolved. It is enabled by the funding support from central government that will take up the springs at Sanih hamlet, Bukti village, Kubutambahan subdistrict. According to the plan, the spring will be taken up by using a pumping machine with the capacity of 125 liters per second. Related to this plan, the management of Air Sanih attraction is reported to be alarmed because if the spring taking will have an impact on the management of bathing pool having now become the main potential of the local village. The management including local residents once doubted if the water withdrawal will reduce the water flow into the pool or disrupt the supply of clean water having been built today. To ensure the condition, the management consults to local government in order to test the discharge of the water withdrawal to be channeled to some villages in Eastern Buleleng. To follow up the request of the management and residents, local government through the Municipality Waterworks (PDAM) of Buleleng has sucked the Sanih spring with a total of 125 liters per second. As a result, after the spring was sucked with a predetermined capacity, the discharge of water in the pool of Air Sanih remains stable and sufficient for the needs. It is meant to ensure that the volume of water in the pool including clean water distribution network having been running at Bukti village and surrounding areas will not be disturbed. Managing Director of the PDAM Buleleng, I Made Lestariana, when contacted via phone on Wednesday (Jun 3) confirmed that his party has tested the suction of the Air Sanih springs at Bukti village. He said that the test is made because previously
there were doubts if the flow of water in the pool of Air Sanih will reduce and has an impact on the management of the tourist attraction. When tested, the spring is sucked with a capacity of 125 liters per second. The suction capacity is in accordance with the plan to address the clean water crisis in Eastern Buleleng. During the test, in fact the water discharge remains stable and particularly the supply for the swimming pool does not decline. Similarly, the distribution network having been taken from this spring with the capacity of 40 liters per second is not disturbed. Based on the existing data, the total water discharge of the spring in 2012 reached 450 liters per second. From these springs, the PDAM utilizes 40 liters per second and coupled with additional suction of 125 liters per second. Thus, in total the spring taken amounts to 165 liters per second. It means the remaining discharge is 285 liters per second and it is believed not to harm the management of Air Sanih swimming pool object. “We are already conducting a trial to the Air Sanih spring. The result is quite positive. Although we have sucked 125 liters per second coupled with the previous suction of 40 liters per second, the water discharge is

stable and specifically the volume of water in the pool remains sufficient as usual,” he said. On the other hand, Lestariana said that according to the program of central government in 2015 Buleleng will receive a development assistance of clean water facility to overcome water crisis in Eastern Buleleng. The project fully funded by the state budget is handled by the Bali-Penida River Agency (BWS). Of the existing design, the Air Sanih spring will be streamed by using pumps to the main reservoir at Bulian village, Kubutambahan subdistrict. In addition to building the main reservoir, it is also equipped with distribution reservoir at some villages like Tejakula, Bondalem (Tejakula subdistrict), Bukti, Kubutambahan, Bulian (Kubutambahan subdistrict), and Bungkulan (Sawan subdistrict). From the main reservoir, the water will be channeled to distribution reservoir and ends at the distribution network to people’s homes. “This year the project will include distribution reservoir, while in the subsequent development in 2016 will build a network to people’s home with at total of 10,000 home connections,” added Lestariana. Batur Lake Festival suspended again
BANGLI - The Batur Lake Festival 2015 is re-suspended. Just like last year 2014, the festival will not be held because the government of Bangli no longer receives funding from central government. It is recognized by the Head of the Bangli Culture and Tourism Agency, Wayan Adnyana, as confirmed on Thursday. Adnyana said that the suspension of the Lake Batur Festival this year is the second time after the last year. The last time, the government of Bangli organized the Lake Batur Festival at the shore of Lake Batur in September 2013. Adnyana explained the Lake Batur Festival started in 2011 is a festival held by the government of Bangli in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. So, the fund used to organize the festival is joint fund between the government of Bangli and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (now Ministry of Tourism). However, since 2014 until now, the government of Bangli no longer receives the budget from central government to organize the annual festival. “Since there is no funding assistance from central government, this year’s lake festi-
val is suspended again,” he said. According to this official from Batur, to organize the festival, the government of Bangli cannot do it alone because it needs much funding. For instance, the implementation of festival in 2013 spent approximately IDR 2 billion. Indeed Adnyana deplored because the Lake Batur Festival cannot be implemented this year. According to him, the Lake Batur Festival having been held for three consecutive times can serve as a means to promote tourism in terms of the beauty of the panorama owned by Kintamani and local culture. If only the government of Bangli can be funded by central government to carry out the Lake Batur Festival, Adnyana claimed his party will format it better and more interesting than the previous years. His party will drive more participation of guests in the event. Though the Lake Batur Festival cannot be held this year, Adnyana said that there will be Festival Nusantara which will also be held in Kintamani. DENPASAR - The Lumintang City Park, North Denpasar, will be beautified with a fountain located right in the middle of the pond. For this purpose, Denpasar Municipality will allocate unmitigated funds worth IDR 3.5 billion. From the information of electronic procurement system (LPSE) of Denpasar, the fountain making project of the Lumintang City Park will be funded through the Denpasar budget 2015. Limit value of the activity and self-estimated price (HPS) equally amounts to IDR 3.5 billion. Currently the project auction process handled by the Denpasar Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (DKP) has entered post-announcement. When confirmed about this on Thursday, the Head of the DKP Denpasar, Ketut Wisada, revealed that the project will include the installation of LEDs, sound system and animations. No physical development will be made in the existing pond. Physical maintenance of the pond has been performed recently in the form of welding to prevent leakage. The following project only includes the application of technology in the fountain. “In the future, there will be a fountain of anima-
tion and sound, including lighting effects,” he said. Wisada dismissed if the budget for the project is overpriced. Instead, he said that in other region in Indonesia, the budget of similar fountain construction can reach IDR 23 billion. “This budget is relatively small. In Purwakarta, the budget even reaches IDR 23 billion. The technology is indeed expensive. All the materials are imported,” said Wisada. The fountain is projected to add the appeal of the Lumintang City Park. Public can enjoy it at night. With the increase in the attraction of this city park, the public is expected not to be concentrated at the I Gusti Ngurah Made Agung (Puputan Badung) Square any longer. Other than the making of fountain, the arrangement is also made in the south of the field. It will include the making of a pond. Damaged barrier will be demolished and functioned as a park. Egypt’s Mubarak to be retried over killing of protesters
CAIRO — Egypt’s highest appeals court on Thursday ordered the retrial of ousted President Hosni Mubarak on charges that he failed to stop the killing of hundreds of protesters during the 2011 uprising that ended his 29-year rule. The ruling set Nov. 5 as the date for the start of the new trial, the verdict of which cannot be appealed. It would be the third time that Mubarak is tried in connection with the killings in 2011. Mubarak, who is 86 and in failing health, has since his arrest in April 2011 been held in detention in a number of hospitals. He now resides at a Nile-side military hospital in a leafy suburb just south of Cairo. The ruling came six months after a criminal court dismissed murder charges against Mubarak in connection with the killing of the protesters, citing the “inadmissibility” of the case due to a technicality. That ruling marked a major setback for the young activists who spearheaded the Arab Spring uprising in January and February 2011, many of whom are now in jail or have withdrawn from politics in the face of an ongoing crackdown by authorities. Judge Mahmoud al-Rashidi said at the time that he dismissed the case against Mubarak because his May 2011 referral to trial by
prosecutors ignored the “implicit” decision that no criminal charges be filed against him when his security chief and six top aides were referred to trial by the same prosecutors two months earlier. Massive protests demanding that Mubarak be put on trial took place in April of that year. An appeal demanding a retrial of Mubarak’s security chief and the six top police commanders, also acquitted in November, was rejected on Thursday. The killing of nearly 900 protesters during the 18-day uprising remains a contentious issue, with activists and rights groups demanding that police be held accountable. Dozens of policemen charged with killing protesters have been acquitted or received suspended or light sentences. Mohammed Morsi, a prominent Islamist, won Egypt’s first free presidential election in 2012, but ruled for just a year before the military overthrew him amid massive protests demanding his resignation. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who as military chief led Morsi’s ouster in July 2013, was elected president a year ago. More than 4,600 desperate and hungry boat people have been rescued in five countries since early May after a regional crackdown on smugglers prompted some captains to abandon their human cargo at sea. The United Nations has said about half of those who have come ashore were Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution in Myanmar, and the rest were Bangladeshis escaping poverty. “It is not true that the migrants from Myanmar fled because of discrimination or persecution in Myanmar,” the foreign minister said during a briefing to foreign diplomats about the crisis. “They are just the victims of human smugglers.” “These are migrants who are seeking better jobs in other countries,” he added. Myanmar authorities intercepted boats packed with more than 730 people and brought the group ashore Wednesday in western Rakhine state, said Wunna Maung Lwin. Those on board included 611 men, 72 women and 51 children whose
nationalities the government was still verifying, he said. “Those who are verified as citizens of Bangladesh will be sent back to their country starting Sunday,” he said. “Myanmar is not in a position to give assistance to the migrants long term, as it is a developing country.” U.N. agencies and other groups said they were not getting full access to the verification process, which is seen as crucial to ensure that Myanmar is not falsely labelling Rohingya on the boat as citizens of Bangladesh. “We are still trying to get full access to the 700-plus who just landed,” said Dom Scalpelli, country director for the U.N.’s World Food Program. “We are on the ground and discussing with the government to give us access as quickly as possible.” The U.N. has called the Rohingya one of the world’s most persecuted minorities. Its Navy detained journalists, including the AP, over the weekend, erasing their camera memory cards, when they were trying to confirm the nationalities of the 730 migrants who were hidden away for days near a remote island before being towed into Rakhine state. A number of residents at Ketapang Lampu hamlet having relocated a few years ago also claim to fear if similar disaster will happen again. The land of plantation bordering the seawater with local settlement has almost run out due to abrasion as well. Some homes located at Ketapang Lampu are owned by the people escaping from the onslaught of abrasion about three years ago. According to them, from day to day, the onslaught of seawater is getting more severe. Now, the distance of their house from seawater is only about 15 meters and continues to decrease. One of the local residents, Amat Dewasa, said on Wednesday (Jun 3) that if such condition is left, within a year he is sure that he has remove again because the land will run out. Dewasa who moved to Ketapang Muara about three years ago because his house was affected by abrasion admitted to be worried if similar abrasion will threaten. Apart from his residence, the
abrasion also threatens a number of other houses located close to his house. According to him, some neighboring residents are also the relocated victims of abrasion. “During west wind, the possibility of strikes will be getting stronger. At that time, the wind blows from sea to land,” said Samsul, another resident. Currently he said that the wind still blows from land to sea and the waves are proved to have eroded many lands of the house bordering with the sea. Now, residents can only surrender and hope the abrasion can stop in order not to reach their house. Residents having profession as fisherman claimed to lease the land because it is located near the beach. If the abrasion pounds back the house, they claimed to move again. Other than at Pengambengan, similar abrasion also hits some other beaches in Jembrana from Pengeragoan to Gilimanuk. High demand of endek fabric is not fully enjoyed by weavers in Klungkung. This condition is also experienced by I Made Suwebawa, a craftsman from Tengah hamlet, Tegak village, Klungkung. The man currently employing a total of 30 endek fabric craftsmen admitted to deeply feel the influence of the arrival of endek fabric from Jepara. He also deplored the endek fabric brought in from Java applying the motif owned by Balinese craftsmen. Counterfeiting of the motif makes craftsmen in Klungkung get eliminated from the market. Made Suwebawa admitted that currently he no longer has regular customers from Klungkung Art Market. According to him, the endek fabric in the art market has now been dominated by the products from outside Bali, but they apply the motif owned by Balinese artisans. “When I sell endek fabric with my own motif to the art market, a month later there will be another endek fabric using my motif sold at
cheaper price,” said the craftsman who designs his own motif. Although having been eliminated from the art market, Made Suwebawa can still breathe with the policy of using endek fabric for office employees. He also claimed to get many orders from a number of agencies in the county or even from private companies. On average he receives the orders up to 1,500 meters per month where he sold the fabric for IDR 80,000 per meter. The businesses having been pioneered since 1999 now gets a lot of requests from outside the province of Bali, especially from Jakarta. After participating in an exhibition denoting the collaboration with the Klungkung Industry and Trade Agency, he gets the orders of endek fabric from a number of regions in Indonesia. Amid the onslaught of the endek products, Made Suwebawa hoped that people who really love the original products of Bali should directly buy endek fabric from the hands of craftsmen. He
expected so in order that the producers will not continue to decline due to the arrival of endek products from outside. According to him, the price of endek fabric from outside Bali is cheaper due to the reduction in quality to diminish production cost. One of the strategies is by reducing the fiber of fabric or yarn mixed with cheaper materials. Quality of the fabric will be known after three months and during wearing it. Nevertheless, low labor cost of weavers in Java and raw material prices can also diminish the price of endek fabric brought in from Java. “Most of the inexpensive endek fabric is rather hot as the fabric is made from mixed cotton, not entirely cotton. Besides, the color quality can easily fade. Ideally the endek fabric used for clothing will not easily fade because it uses synthetic colors. HONG KONG — Hong Kongers planned a candlelight vigil Thursday night to mark the suppression of the 1989 student-led Tiananmen Square protests, an annual event that takes on greater meaning for the city’s young after last autumn’s pro-democracy demonstrations sharpened their sense of unease with Beijing. For the first time in the commemoration’s quarter-century history, some student groups won’t be taking part and will instead hold their own memorials, in a sign of an emerging rift between young and old over Hong Kong identity that took root during the Occupy Central protests. Billy Fung, president of Hong Kong University’s student union, which is holding its own event on campus, said the group wants to focus on establishing genuine democracy in Hong Kong first. “If we just go for one night every year to attend the vigil and chant about building a democratic China, then what you’re doing is just verbally supporting a cause, and you won’t help build a democratic China,” said Fung. The Hong Kong protests reinforced the sense of a separate Hong Kong identity for young people, who he said now “will question if it is their responsibility to help establish the development of Chinese democracy.” However, lawmaker Lee Cheukyan, who is secretary of the Hong Kong Alliance, said it’s impossible to keep it a separate issue. “We must change China before China changes us,” he said. ACCRA, Ghana — Massive flooding in Ghana’s capital swept stored fuel into a nearby fire, setting off a huge explosion at a gas station that killed 73 people and set alight neighboring buildings, authorities said Thursday. The explosion took place as dozens sought shelter in gas station and nearby shops in central Accra to escape the torrential rains and charred bodies were left scattered through the whole site. The flooding “caused the diesel and petrol to flow away from the gas station and a fire from a nearby house led to the explosion,” said Billy Anaglate spokesman for Ghana’s national fire service. Thursday morning crews were still collecting bodies and officials at the nearby 37 Military Hospital said its morgue had reached capacity. “Many people took shelter under a shed at the station during a severe rain across the country and got trapped when the explosion happened,” Michael Plange, who lives a few blocks away, told The Associated Press. President John Dramani Mahama visited the scene on Thursday, calling the death toll “catastrophic” and offering condolences to families of the victims. “Steps will be taken to ensure that disastrous floods and their attendant deaths do not occur again,” he said. The death toll was preliminary and could rise, Anaglate said. “We are still trying to salvage the site of the accident before we can come out with an accurate figure,” Anaglate told journalists. Graphic footage aired on national television early Thursday showed corpses being piled into the back of a pickup truck and other charred bodies trapped amid the debris. Neighboring buildings that had caught fire burned into the night as floodwaters around the site hampered recovery efforts. A local official says 10 more bodies have been recovered from the overturned ship, bringing the death toll to 75 with more than 360 still unaccounted for. Jianli county chief Huang Zhen released the figure in an update to reporters on the recovery efforts Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, in Beijing, The Communist Party’s Poliburo Standing Committee, the country’s highest power, convened a meeting and issued a directive for officials to step up efforts to control public opinion about the disaster response. It ordered them to both “understand the sorrow of the families” and “concretely preserve social stability.” Some relatives have demanded help from officials in Nanjing and Shanghai to travel to the site in unruly scenes that have drawn a heavy police response. Bodies are being brought to the Jianli’s Rongcheng Crematorium, where at least two relatives of passengers are trying to identify loved ones. One of them, a woman from the northeastern city of Tianjin who identified herself only by her surname, Zhang, says her mother was aboard the ship. She says authorities told her viewings would not be arranged until later. “Mom was a wonderful person. She didn’t deserve to die like this,” Zhang says. JAKARTA - The Environmental Affairs and Forestry Ministry plans to intensify its biological diversity conservation efforts particularly to protect the endangered Sumatran orangutans (Pongo Abelii) and Kalimantan orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus), as their natural habitats are shrinking.

BEKASI - The Bekasi police is interrogating 20 witnesses over the plastic rice case. “Until now, 20 witnesses have been grilled in connection with the plastic rice controversy that has been raging among the public since May 2015,” Head of the Bekasi Police Resort Senior Commissioner Daniel Tifaona remarked on Thursday. The witnesses include Dewi Septiani, a Bekasi resident, who published the news about the fake plastic rice on social media.
Another witness Syifa Faradila is a Dakta Radio broadcaster who was the first person who spread the news in the mass media. The police also questioned those in charge of Sucofindo’s laboratory and the officials of the Bekasi industrial, trade and cooperatives office. The plastic rice case is being handled by the National Police Headquarters, although the questioning process is being carried out by the Bekasi police.

JAKARTA — Indonesia has raised the alert status of Sinabung volcano in the western part of the country to the highest level following a sharp increase in activity, an official said Wednesday. The 2,600-meter (8,530-foot) -high mountain in North Sumatra province has sporadically erupted since September 2013 after being inactive for three years. The volcano’s status was raised to the highest alert level before midnight Tuesday, said national disaster management agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho. The level means an eruption is possible within days. He said the volcano’s increased
activity the past two days had made it unstable. The agency urged residents living within a radius of 7 kilometers (4 miles) south and southeast of the crater to evacuate. The volcano had been dormant for four centuries before springing to life in August 2010, killing two people and forcing 30,000 to flee. An eruption in February 2014 killed 16 people. Mount Sinabung is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin. And now, it might happen against James.The next chat between the superstars could be Thursday night at center court, before Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Curry is now the NBA’s Most Valuable Player and the Warriors, no longer the lowly laughingstock from his rookie season, won a league-best 67 games during the regular season. They have lost three times at Oracle Arena all season, but that doesn’t faze James as he tries to end Cleveland’s 51year pro sports title drought in his first season back there. “I’ve been in so many loud arenas. This is going to be one of them,” he said. “I’ve played in OKC in the (2012) finals to start off the series. I’ve played in Boston. I’ve played in Detroit when they were in their heyday. I’ve played in Chicago in 2011 to open up the Eastern Conference finals. I’ve played in San Antonio. “So I’ve been in some very loud buildings and this, obviously, I know tomorrow is going to be one of them. But I don’t add too much pressure on it. You just go out and you just try to play.” He has done that superbly in this postseason, averaging 27.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 8.3 assists in the Eastern Conference playoffs. He has played better basketball — he brought up the 2009 East finals loss against Orlando, a month before Curry was drafted — but the steady hand he has provided with Kevin Love out and Kyrie Irving hurting has made James as good as he’s ever been. “For me as leader of the team, it’s my job to lead the guys and to perform well,” James said. “At the end of the day, win, lose or draw, that’s all I can ask out of myself and ask out of my guys, and we’ll do that.” His finals experience — he’s the first to play in five straight finals since Bill Russell’s Celtics of the 1960s — is one advantage for the Cavs against a Warriors team with no players who have played for the championship. Warriors rookie coach Steve Kerr, who won five titles as a player, says he and assistant Luke Walton have talked to the team about what to expect now. “But what I really found as a player was once you get out on the floor, you just start playing and everything returns to normal,” Kerr said. “It’s still just a basketball game. Rafa Nadal believes he can recover from his crushing French Open quarter-final defeat by Novak Djokovic and return even stronger. The Spaniard, who turned 29 on Wednesday when he was beaten 7-5 6-3 6-1 by world number one Djokovic, only his second defeat in 11 years at Roland Garros, said he was no longer suffering from the physical problems that affected him last year. “I hope I’ll be able to continue on the tour, and before the end of the year I’d like to be even fitter and to work on the parts of my game that I have to work on,” Nadal said. “Physically I have to be good. You know, last year I had some physical incidents, but so far this year I feel good. I’m not injured. This is something very important. “You know, when you’re injured, there is not much you can do. So far, as I was saying, everything is good.” Nadal showed fleeting glimpses of his best against Djokovic but was nowhere near the level that earned him nine French Open titles, striking only three forehand winners. Jordaan, the head of the South African Football Association, was credited with bringing the 2010 World Cup to South Africa. He is also being investigated for $10 million in bribes paid to land the event, part of the corruption scandal that pushed FIFA President Blatter to resign. A day after the corruption and bribery scandal broke last week, Jordaan was appointed the new mayor of his South African hometown. He plans to stay on as the soccer federation’s head, a job with no salary. But he’s hedging his bets. Call it the domino effect, or a chain reaction, or simply bracing for change coming to FIFA. MILAN — Sinisa Mihajlovic is reportedly near to being announced as the new coach of struggling AC Milan. The Gazzetta dello Sport reported Thursday that Mihajlovic met with Milan president Silvio Berlusconi late Wednesday and that an announcement could come by the end of the week. Milan will have to fire current coach Filippo Inzaghi first, although that move has been expected for months. In his first season in charge, Inzaghi led Milan to a dismal 10th-place finish. Mihajlovic announced on Monday that he was stepping down at Sampdoria after guiding the Genoa club to seventh. The Serbian clearly has bigger aims. But as a former player for Inter Milan, and cohort of current Inter coach Roberto Mancini, Mihajlovic apparently needed to convince Berlusconi that he will be entirely dedicated to

Warner is one of 14 senior soccer officials and businessmen indicted by the United States on charges of corruption which have shaken the world’s most popular sport. U.S. authorities say he and other officials planned to keep the money, in return for delivering votes to host the World Cup in South Africa. The Hawks, formally known as the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, said their initial assessment would determine whether a full investigation was needed, a decision which would be announced next week.
“The preliminary investigation will reveal whether or not we will have an investigation,” said Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi. “If the investigations reveal there is a case to be answered, we will then inform other stakeholders in the justice system.” Freedom Front Plus, a small rightwing political party that advocates for South Africa’s formerly dominant white minority, said on Thursday it had submitted an affidavit asking the Hawks to investigate the South African Football Association.
“We are hoping to understand what happened and also get an explanation from local football officials,” Jennifer Rautenbach, the legal advisor to the party told Reuters. “We asked specifically that they look at SAFA officials involved.” On Wednesday, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula confirmed the contents of a leaked letter from the SAFA which said money originally intended for organising the 2010 World Cup had been paid directly to Warner. Mbalula told a news conference the payment was never
intended as a bribe to secure the right to host the 2010 tournament, as described in the U.S. indictment, but was a donation to help build a soccer centre in Warner’s native Trinidad for Caribbeans of African descent. and losing its captain and most influential player in Gerrard. Burnley striker Danny Ings is also close to signing, according to reports in the British media. City tried to retain the services of Milner, who became more of a regular in the team last season and was appreciated by manager Manuel Pellegrini. Jordaan, the head of the South African Football Association, was credited with bringing the 2010 World Cup to South Africa. He is also being investigated for $10 million in bribes paid to land the event, part of the corruption scandal that pushed FIFA President Blatter to resign. A day after the corruption and bribery scandal broke last week, Jordaan was appointed the new mayor of his South African hometown. He plans to stay on as the soccer federation’s head, a job with no salary. But he’s hedging his bets. Call it the domino effect, or a chain reaction, or simply bracing for change coming to FIFA. Blatter is going, so can federation presidents who run world soccer — some like feudal lords in Africa, Asia and Latin America — hang on for long? The Gazzetta dello Sport reported Thursday that Mihajlovic met with Milan president Silvio Berlusconi late Wednesday and that an announcement could come by the end of the week. Milan will have to fire current coach Filippo Inzaghi first, although that move has been expected for months. In his first season in charge, Inzaghi led Milan to a dismal 10th-place finish. Mihajlovic announced on Monday that he was stepping down at Sampdoria after guiding the Genoa club to seventh. The Serbian clearly has bigger aims. Curry is now the NBA’s Most Valuable Player and the Warriors, no longer the lowly laughingstock from his rookie season, won a league-best 67 games during the regular season. They have lost three times at Oracle Arena all season, but that doesn’t faze James as he tries to end Cleveland’s 51year pro sports title drought in his first season back there. “I’ve been in so many loud arenas. This is going to be one of them,” he said. “I’ve played in OKC in the (2012) finals to start off the series. I’ve played in Boston. I’ve played in Detroit when they were in their heyday. I’ve played in Chicago in 2011 to open up the Eastern Conference finals. I’ve played in San Antonio. “So I’ve been in some very loud buildings and this, obviously, I know tomorrow is going to be one of them. But I don’t add too much pressure on it. You just go out and you just try to play.” He has done that superbly in this postseason, averaging 27.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 8.3 assists in the Eastern Conference playoffs. He has played better basketball — he brought up the 2009 East finals loss against Orlando, a month before Curry was drafted — but the steady hand he has provided with Kevin Love out and Kyrie Irving hurting has made James as good as he’s ever been. “For me as leader of the team, it’s my job to lead the guys and to perform well,” James said. “At the end of the day, win, lose or draw, that’s all I can ask out of myself and ask out of my guys, and we’ll do that.” His finals experience — he’s the first to play in five straight finals since Bill Russell’s Celtics of the 1960s — is one advantage for the Cavs against a Warriors team with no players who have played for the championship. HONG KONG — Hong Kongers planned a candlelight vigil Thursday night to mark the suppression of the 1989 student-led Tiananmen Square protests, an annual event that takes on greater meaning for the city’s young after last autumn’s pro-democracy demonstrations sharpened their sense of unease with Beijing. For the first time in the commemoration’s quarter-century history, some student groups won’t be taking part and will instead hold their own memorials, in a sign of an emerging rift between young and old over Hong Kong identity that took root during the Occupy Central protests. The vigil is the only large-scale public commemoration of the victims on Chinese soil. Hundreds and possibly thousands of unarmed protesters and onlookers were killed when tanks and soldiers entered central Beijing on June 3-4, 1989, to put down the student-led protests. “June 4 and Occupy Central are very similar,” said Otto Ng, a 19year-old student who planned to attend the vigil for the first time. Ng said he hadn’t known much about the events in Tiananmen Square but tried to learn more after last year’s protests erupted. In both cases, “we are all students, and we are pushing for democracy and freedom,” he said, adding he was upset that dozens of tear gas canisters had been fired by Hong Kong police in a failed bid to disperse tens of thousands of protesters on the streets. Political tensions now threaten to reignite over the government’s plan to submit for lawmaker ap-

The Hong Kong Federation of Students, a coalition of the city’s universities that was one of the driving forces behind the Occupy protests, has also opted not to take part. Elsewhere, radical “localist” group Civic Passion, known for its confrontational stance, plans to burn a Chinese Communist flag at its own rally. Billy Fung, president of Hong Kong University’s student union, which is holding its own event on campus, said the group wants to focus on establishing genuine democracy in Hong Kong first. “If we just go for one night every year to attend the vigil and chant about building a democratic China, then what you’re doing is just verbally supporting a cause, and you won’t help build a democratic China,” said Fung. The Hong Kong protests reinforced the sense of a separate Hong Kong identity for young people, who he said now “will question if it is their responsibility to help establish the development of Chinese democracy.” However, lawmaker Lee Cheukyan, who is secretary of the Hong Kong Alliance, said it’s impossible to keep it a separate issue. “We must change China before China changes us,” he said. ACCRA, Ghana — Massive flooding in Ghana’s capital swept stored fuel into a nearby fire, setting off a huge explosion at a gas station that killed 73 people and set alight neighboring buildings, authorities said Thursday. The explosion took place as dozens sought shelter in gas station and nearby shops in central Accra to escape the torrential rains and charred bodies were left scattered through the whole site. The flooding “caused the diesel and petrol to flow away from the gas station and a fire from a nearby house led to the explosion,” said Billy Anaglate spokesman for Ghana’s national fire service. Thursday morning crews were still collecting bodies and officials at the nearby 37 Military Hospital said its morgue had reached capacity. “Many people took shelter under a shed at the station during a severe rain across the country and got trapped when the explosion happened,” Michael Plange, who lives a few blocks away, told The Associated Press. President John Dramani Mahama visited the scene on Thursday, calling the death toll “catastrophic” and offering condolences to families of the victims. “Steps will be taken to ensure that disastrous floods and their attendant deaths do not occur again,” he said. The death toll was preliminary and could rise, Anaglate said. “We are still trying to salvage the site of the accident before we can come out with an accurate figure,” Anaglate told journalists. Graphic footage aired on national television early Thursday showed corpses being piled into the back of a pickup truck and other charred bodies trapped amid the debris. Neighboring buildings that had caught fire burned into the night as floodwaters around the site hampered recovery efforts. A local official says 10 more bodies have been recovered from the overturned ship, bringing the death toll to 75 with more than 360 still unaccounted for. High demand of endek fabric is not fully enjoyed by weavers in Klungkung. This condition is also experienced by I Made Suwebawa, a craftsman from Tengah hamlet, Tegak village, Klungkung. The man currently employing a total of 30 endek fabric craftsmen admitted to deeply feel the influence of the arrival of endek fabric from Jepara. He also deplored the endek fabric brought in from Java applying the motif owned by Balinese craftsmen. Counterfeiting of the motif makes craftsmen in Klungkung get eliminated from the market. Made Suwebawa admitted that currently he no longer has regular customers from Klungkung Art Market. According to him, the endek fabric in the art market has now been dominated by the products from outside Bali, but they apply the motif owned by Balinese artisans. “When I sell endek fabric with my own motif to the art market, a month later there will be another endek fabric using my motif sold at
cheaper price,” said the craftsman who designs his own motif. Although having been eliminated from the art market, Made Suwebawa can still breathe with the policy of using endek fabric for office employees. He also claimed to get many orders from a number of agencies in the county or even from private companies. On average he receives the orders up to 1,500 meters per month where he sold the fabric for IDR 80,000 per meter. The businesses having been pioneered since 1999 now gets a lot of requests from outside the province of Bali, especially from Jakarta. After participating in an exhibition denoting the collaboration with the Klungkung Industry and Trade Agency, he gets the orders of endek fabric from a number of regions in Indonesia. Amid the onslaught of the endek products, Made Suwebawa hoped that people who really love the original products of Bali should directly buy endek fabric from the hands of craftsmen. He
expected so in order that the producers will not continue to decline due to the arrival of endek products from outside. According to him, the price of endek fabric from outside Bali is cheaper due to the reduction in quality to diminish production cost. One of the strategies is by reducing the fiber of fabric or yarn mixed with cheaper materials. Quality of the fabric will be known after three months and during wearing it. Nevertheless, low labor cost of weavers in Java and raw material prices can also diminish the price of endek fabric brought in from Java. “Most of the inexpensive endek fabric is rather hot as the fabric is made from mixed cotton, not entirely cotton. Besides, the color quality can easily fade. Ideally the endek fabric used for clothing will not easily fade because it uses synthetic colors. Air Sanih spring use to resolve water crisis in East Buleleng
SINGARAJA - Clean water issues experienced by residents in the eastern region of Buleleng seem to be immediately resolved. It is enabled by the funding support from central government that will take up the springs at Sanih hamlet, Bukti village, Kubutambahan subdistrict. According to the plan, the spring will be taken up by using a pumping machine with the capacity of 125 liters per second. Related to this plan, the management of Air Sanih attraction is reported to be alarmed because if the spring taking will have an impact on the management of bathing pool having now become the main potential of the local village. The management including local residents once doubted if the water withdrawal will reduce the water flow into the pool or disrupt the supply of clean water having been built today. To ensure the condition, the management consults to local government in order to test the discharge of the water withdrawal to be channeled to some villages in Eastern Buleleng. To follow up the request of the management and residents, local government through the Municipality Waterworks (PDAM) of Buleleng has sucked the Sanih spring with a total of 125 liters per second. As a result, after the spring was sucked with a predetermined capacity, the discharge of water in the pool of Air Sanih remains stable and sufficient for the needs. It is meant to ensure that the volume of water in the pool including clean water distribution network having been running at Bukti village and surrounding areas will not be disturbed. Managing Director of the PDAM Buleleng, I Made Lestariana, when contacted via phone on Wednesday (Jun 3) confirmed that his party has tested the suction of the Air Sanih springs at Bukti village. He said that the test is made because previously
there were doubts if the flow of water in the pool of Air Sanih will reduce and has an impact on the management of the tourist attraction. When tested, the spring is sucked with a capacity of 125 liters per second. The suction capacity is in accordance with the plan to address the clean water crisis in Eastern Buleleng. During the test, in fact the water discharge remains stable and particularly the supply for the swimming pool does not decline. Similarly, the distribution network having been taken from this spring with the capacity of 40 liters per second is not disturbed. Based on the existing data, the total water discharge of the spring in 2012 reached 450 liters per second. From these springs, the PDAM utilizes 40 liters per second and coupled with additional suction of 125 liters per second. Thus, in total the spring taken amounts to 165 liters per second. It means the remaining discharge is 285 liters per second and it is believed not to harm the management of Air Sanih swimming pool object. “We are already conducting a trial to the Air Sanih spring. The result is quite positive. Although we have sucked 125 liters per second coupled with the previous suction of 40 liters per second, the water discharge is

Batur Lake Festival suspended again
BANGLI - The Batur Lake Festival 2015 is re-suspended. Just like last year 2014, the festival will not be held because the government of Bangli no longer receives funding from central government. It is recognized by the Head of the Bangli Culture and Tourism Agency, Wayan Adnyana, as confirmed on Thursday. Adnyana said that the suspension of the Lake Batur Festival this year is the second time after the last year. The last time, the government of Bangli organized the Lake Batur Festival at the shore of Lake Batur in September 2013. Adnyana explained the Lake Batur Festival started in 2011 is a festival held by the government of Bangli in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. So, the fund used to organize the festival is joint fund between the government of Bangli and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (now Ministry of Tourism). However, since 2014 until now, the government of Bangli no longer receives the budget from central government to organize the annual festival. “Since there is no funding assistance from central government, this year’s lake festi-
val is suspended again,” he said. According to this official from Batur, to organize the festival, the government of Bangli cannot do it alone because it needs much funding. For instance, the implementation of festival in 2013 spent approximately IDR 2 billion. Indeed Adnyana deplored because the Lake Batur Festival cannot be implemented this year. According to him, the Lake Batur Festival having been held for three consecutive times can serve as a means to promote tourism in terms of the beauty of the panorama owned by Kintamani and local culture. If only the government of Bangli can be funded by central government to carry out the Lake Batur Festival, Adnyana claimed his party will format it better and more interesting than the previous years. His party will drive more participation of guests in the event. Though the Lake Batur Festival cannot be held this year, Adnyana said that there will be Festival Nusantara which will also be held in Kintamani. Billions of rupiahs used to finance fountain at Lumintang Square
DENPASAR - The Lumintang City Park, North Denpasar, will be beautified with a fountain located right in the middle of the pond. For this purpose, Denpasar Municipality will allocate unmitigated funds worth IDR 3.5 billion. From the information of electronic procurement system (LPSE) of Denpasar, the fountain making project of the Lumintang City Park will be funded through the Denpasar budget 2015. Limit value of the activity and self-estimated price (HPS) equally amounts to IDR 3.5 billion. Currently the project auction process handled by the Denpasar Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (DKP) has entered post-announcement. When confirmed about this on Thursday, the Head of the DKP Denpasar, Ketut Wisada, revealed that the project will include the installation of LEDs, sound system and animations. No physical development will be made in the existing pond. Physical maintenance of the pond has been performed recently in the form of welding to prevent leakage. The following project only includes the application of technology in the fountain. “In the future, there will be a fountain of anima-
tion and sound, including lighting effects,” he said. Wisada dismissed if the budget for the project is overpriced. Instead, he said that in other region in Indonesia, the budget of similar fountain construction can reach IDR 23 billion. “This budget is relatively small. In Purwakarta, the budget even reaches IDR 23 billion. The technology is indeed expensive. All the materials are imported,” said Wisada. The fountain is projected to add the appeal of the Lumintang City Park. Public can enjoy it at night. With the increase in the attraction of this city park, the public is expected not to be concentrated at the I Gusti Ngurah Made Agung (Puputan Badung) Square any longer. Other than the making of fountain, the arrangement is also made in the south of the field. It will include the making of a pond. Damaged barrier will be demolished and functioned as a park. The making of fountain and the park arrangement are still in tender process. Hopefully the project can be worked on immediately. Egypt’s Mubarak to be retried over killing of protesters
CAIRO — Egypt’s highest appeals court on Thursday ordered the retrial of ousted President Hosni Mubarak on charges that he failed to stop the killing of hundreds of protesters during the 2011 uprising that ended his 29-year rule. The ruling set Nov. 5 as the date for the start of the new trial, the verdict of which cannot be appealed. It would be the third time that Mubarak is tried in connection with the killings in 2011. Mubarak, who is 86 and in failing health, has since his arrest in April 2011 been held in detention in a number of hospitals. He now resides at a Nile-side military hospital in a leafy suburb just south of Cairo. The ruling came six months after a criminal court dismissed murder charges against Mubarak in connection with the killing of the protesters, citing the “inadmissibility” of the case due to a technicality. That ruling marked a major setback for the young activists who spearheaded the Arab Spring uprising in January and February 2011, many of whom are now in jail or have withdrawn from politics in the face of an ongoing crackdown by authorities. Judge Mahmoud al-Rashidi said at the time that he dismissed the case against Mubarak because his May 2011 referral to trial by
prosecutors ignored the “implicit” decision that no criminal charges be filed against him when his security chief and six top aides were referred to trial by the same prosecutors two months earlier. Massive protests demanding that Mubarak be put on trial took place in April of that year. An appeal demanding a retrial of Mubarak’s security chief and the six top police commanders, also acquitted in November, was rejected on Thursday. The killing of nearly 900 protesters during the 18-day uprising remains a contentious issue, with activists and rights groups demanding that police be held accountable. Dozens of policemen charged with killing protesters have been acquitted or received suspended or light sentences. Mohammed Morsi, a prominent Islamist, won Egypt’s first free presidential election in 2012, but ruled for just a year before the military overthrew him amid massive protests demanding his resignation. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who as military chief led Morsi’s ouster in July 2013, was elected president a year ago. Since Morsi’s ouster, pro-government media have increasingly blamed the violence during the 2011 uprising on his Muslim Brotherhood, which is now outlawed as a terrorist group. (ap)
Foreign Affairs Minister Wunna Maung Lwin’s remarks were Myanmar’s latest denial of any blame for the humanitarian crisis. More than 4,600 desperate and hungry boat people have been rescued in five countries since early May after a regional crackdown on smugglers prompted some captains to abandon their human cargo at sea. The United Nations has said about half of those who have come ashore were Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution in Myanmar, and the rest were Bangladeshis escaping poverty. “It is not true that the migrants from Myanmar fled because of discrimination or persecution in Myanmar,” the foreign minister said during a briefing to foreign diplomats about the crisis. “They are just the victims of human smugglers.” “These are migrants who are seeking better jobs in other countries,” he added. Myanmar authorities intercepted boats packed with more than 730 people and brought the group ashore Wednesday in western Rakhine state, said Wunna Maung Lwin. Those on board included 611 men, 72 women and 51 children whose
nationalities the government was still verifying, he said. “Those who are verified as citizens of Bangladesh will be sent back to their country starting Sunday,” he said. “Myanmar is not in a position to give assistance to the migrants long term, as it is a developing country.” U.N. agencies and other groups said they were not getting full access to the verification process, which is seen as crucial to ensure that Myanmar is not falsely labelling Rohingya on the boat as citizens of Bangladesh. “We are still trying to get full access to the 700-plus who just landed,” said Dom Scalpelli, country director for the U.N.’s World Food Program. “We are on the ground and discussing with the government to give us access as quickly as possible.” The U.N. has called the Rohingya one of the world’s most persecuted minorities. Myanmar denies the existence of the Rohingya, whose population in Rakhine state is estimated at 1.3 million people. The government says they are all “Bengali,” implying they are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. The Rohingya
are denied citizenship in Myanmar and face state-sanctioned discrimination including limited access to education, medical care and other basic services. Myanmar insists all those who have fled by boat in recent months were “Bangladeshi.” The government has gone to great lengths to make sure it is not disproven — at least not on its own soil. Its Navy detained journalists, including the AP, over the weekend, erasing their camera memory cards, when they were trying to confirm the nationalities of the 730 migrants who were hidden away for days near a remote island before being towed into Rakhine state. They were brought Wednesday to the northern Rakhine district Maungdaw, which is near the border with Bangladesh. In the last month, at least 47 bodies have washed to shore in Rakhine state, believed to be the corpses of migrants trying to escape trafficking ships, said Chris Lewa of the Arakan Project, which has been monitoring activities in the isolated, northern tip of Rakhine for more than a decade. Diesel founder Renzo Rosso, chairman and main shareholder of Maison Margiela’s parent OTB group, said sales were already up 20 percent at the fashion house even though only a few of Galliano’s pieces had so far reached the shelves. Galliano, widely hailed as one of the most talented designers of his generation, fell from grace in 2011 after a video went viral of him drunk in a Paris bar, saying “I love Hitler” and telling a couple their ancestors should have been gassed. Galliano blamed addiction to drugs and alcohol for the rant, said the remarks did not represent
his real views and went through a public period of rehabilitation sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League, a charity that fights antiSemitism. He emerged with a job at Oscar de la Renta in New York in 2013 before Rosso tapped him last year to take over the house founded by Martin Margiela, a designer known for being as self-effacing as Galliano is flamboyant. “John is a real pro, I am so happy to have him,” Rosso told Reuters at his company’s headquarters, an hour’s drive from Venice. “He is a not a designer but a couturier and has great pyramidal thinking - turning couture concepts into ready-to-wear clothing and accessories,” added the tattooed 59-year-old Italian entrepreneur. Galliano’s appointment raised eyebrows last year, not only because of his controversial past but also because of the contrast between
his persona and that of Maison Margiela’s reclusive founder. Martin Margiela did not stitch his name on his products, never took a bow after runway shows and refused to be interviewed or photographed. He disappeared from public life and gave up fashion after resigning in 2009. Sources have told Reuters he is now living incognito in Paris, spending most of his time painting. It seemed an odd fit for the famously preening Galliano, but the fashion industry seems to have embraced both the British-born designer’s repentance and his new role at a house with a decidedly different profile than his own. This week’s edition of Paris Match, the best-selling French weekly magazine, carries on its cover a photo of lawyer Amal Clooney, the media-darling wife of film star George, in a red dress designed by Galliano for Maison Margiela. “Year-on-year, the foreign exchange earned increased 2.91 percent. Last year, the export of fish and shrimps produced US$9.98 million,” Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Panasunan Siregar said on Thursday. He added that the export of fish and shrimps contributed 21.22 percent to Bali’s total export value, which reached US$48.42 million in April, a 4.44 percent drop from that in March, when it reached US$50.67 million. Fish and shrimp are two of the five major export commodities of Bali, besides non-knitted clothing, jewelry (gems), wooden products and furniture, as well as home lighting. According to Siregar, the United States has the highest demand for fish and shrimp from Bali, absorbing 31.95 percent of the total exports, followed by Japan at 18.91 percent and Australia at 5.48
percent. Other markets of Bali’s fish and shrimp are Singapore at 1 percent, Hong Kong at 5.92 percent, Spain at 3.49 percent, the Netherlands at 0.44 percent, Thailand at 6.59 percent, Germany at 0.31 percent, and France at 0.28 percent. The remaining export value of 25.53 percent penetrates markets of a number of other countries as the quality of Bali’s fisheries products, especially tuna and shrimp, is competitive in foreign markets, Siregar pointed out. In the first four months of 2015, 499,258 live ornamental fish worth US$1.07 million, among others, were part of fisheries and marine products that were exported to foreign markets. This marks a 9.59 percent rise over that in the same period last year, when it was recorded at 457,826 fish worth US$982,740.
Bali’s prime fish export is tuna, which brings in the highest revenue of US$25.55 million, followed by snapper at US$1.88 million, grouper at US$5.27 million, other fish at US$7.20 million, and shrimps at US$878,484 million. Moreover, the Bali provincial administration enhances the development of the maritime and fisheries sector by providing outboard engine boats to fishermen so they can increase their catch, among other measures. According to Head of Bali’s Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office Made Gunaja, the province has great potential for fisheries. However, it is quite difficult to boost production due to lack of catching equipment. The fisheries potential in Bali is some 147 thousand tons annually. SANUR – Due to tough, windy conditions, Sanur Reef was chosen on the eleventh hour to take the setting for the first leg of the Billabong Grommet Attack 2015 series. But as surfers, we are all well aware that Mother Nature can change her mind without notice, and unfortunately, the predicated strong south swell failed to show up. “Ok, so there is wind on this side of the island this time of year” said proud father Rizal Tandjung, “these kids are going to have to learn how to compete in challenging conditions sometime”. And indeed they did, with verve and determination, having to be boated out to the distant line-up and then left to paddle in. “That is the physical education element of this contest” laughed parent Cacho Izquierdo, “It’ll put a little meat on their bones”. The most popular event of the day was the Push-In competition. Despite the mighty-might size of the competitors in this division, our young ones surfed with the earnestness of heavy weight boxers. with Westren Hirst taking first place with style far beyond his years. Moving to arguably the toughest conditions of the day, the girls in the division went at it like Spartans and on to a very surprising result. In the end, the winning title was separated by only .04 of a point; and it was a blond Summa Longbottom who triumphed over Taina for the narrow win. The Under 14 Boys division was clearly the hardest fought final. Despite Ben Benson’s flashy off the lips, it was Waida’s steady
wave selection that wore the young star down for the win. Waida, with canny and able surfing, surfed a mature final to defeat Benson by over 9 points. While over at the Under 16 Boys, the results were fairly predictable with Raju Sena dominating the final with his lengthy height and power. Sumbawa’s Andre Anwar, who badly needed this win to impress his sponsors, attempted a spirited assault, but the waves just didn’t come his way “That’s ok” Said Anwar, “I’ll get him next time”. Dengue cases, Indonesia ranked second in the world
DENPASAR - Around the world, about 70 percent of the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) victims are from Asia and Indonesia is hyper-endemic to the case. So, in addition to affecting health it also greatly affects the economy of the country. “Indonesia is ranked second in the world in terms of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) case,” said Louisa Jessica, planning manager of PT. Sanofi Pasteur, Wednesday (Jun 3) during a press conference of the ASEAN Dengue Day (ADD) in the office of the Bali Health Agency. She continued that dengue is a disease most easily and rapidly spreading. DHF is quite serious because it is a tropical disease considering that Indonesia also has tropical climate, being hot throughout the year. In Bali, from January to April 2015 there are 5,249 cases, with remaining high Incident Rate (IR) compared to other provinces in Indonesia, namely 127/100,000 population. However, the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in Bali has reduced to below one percent. The Head of the Bali Health Agency, Ketut Suarjaya, accompanied by his Secretary, I Made Adi Wiguna, and the Division Head of Disease Control, I Nyoman Sudiasa, explained that actually the handling of dengue cases requires the commitment of all parties, both the government and all walks of life to participate in mosquito nest eradication (PSN). “Since dengue stays a health prob-
lem, then the efforts must be made together and given a priority,” he said. Suarjaya confirmed that the
treatment of DHF will be most effective when it is accompanied with public participation because without public participation, it will not succeed. Several factors influence the spread of dengue, namely population density, population mobility

Mosquito eggs can survive up to six months, so that as soon as it rains or there is water, then the eggs will hatch. “Mosquitoes can lay egg 100-200 pieces,” he said. It can be imagined, if the nest eradication is only done by fogging, it will only kill adult mosquitoes, while the 100-200 eggs will hatch into mosquitoes. “Nest eradication is not enough just by fogging, but it must also be done comprehensively by eradicating all mosquito life cycles from larvae, eggs to adult mosquitoes,” he said. At the larva stage, the nest eradication can be done by manual steps namely draining, covering up and taking advantage of secondhand goods. Chemically, larvae is eradicated by applying abate powder in water reservoir, while biologically it is done by the provision of larvae-eating fish. Alternatively, we can use repellent, mosquito coils and mosquito nets as well as install wire netting et cetera. “Nest eradication efforts must be done constantly and simultaneously in all regions in Bali,” he affirmed. Mitigation of the epidemic dengue disease is made by performing active and passive surveillance. “Active surveillance is done on people affected by dengue, while passive surveillance by waiting for patient to public health facility,” he said. He also provides the whole penjor paraphernalia, ranging from lanterns, kolong-kolong and rice to sampian festoons. He sells the products at varied prices depending on the size and complexity of
the making. To meet the demand ahead of Galungan, he has prepared the craft products worth IDR 50 million. Limited capital makes him unable to meet the market demands much less the capital he gets from loans. “We can only prepare the product stocks worth IDR 50 million,” said the man having made craft since five years ago. In order to be able to meet the current needs of Galungan, he is forced to look for the products to Bitera village, Gianyar, having been famous for the center of
ritual paraphernalia. Limited capital is strongly felt by craftsmen because they must purchase raw materials with cash payment. From a number of accessories available, the lanterns of penjor are mostly targeted by consumers. Wayan Mudiantara claimed to be able to make lanterns like the creation of artisans in Gianyar just by looking from the photograph. “I continue to be creative in order to make the lanterns as attractive as possible. When there is penjor competition in Gianyar I took pictures and immediately made
it,” he said when met at his shop on Jalan Raya Takmung, Uma Salakan hamlet, Takmung village, Wednesday (Jun 3). The price of lantern on offer ranges from IDR 20,000 for the simplest to IDR 225,000 for the complex of a larger size. He also receives penjor orders with the price starting from IDR 1.3 million to IDR 6 million for ornamental penjor. Balinese Temple Ceremony
Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

McCarthy, Feig set their sights on 007 in ‘Spy’

Ridiculous questions about the funniness and bankability of women have clouded exactly what’s going on here: Nobody is a better comedic actor right now than Melissa McCarthy. She’s a combustible ball of comic fury rolled up in Chaplinesque sweetness, equally capable of profanitylaced verbal virtuosity as perfectly timed pratfalls. In her latest, the espionage comedy “Spy,” McCarthy dons a host of identities, a closet full of wigs and — in order to stay undercover but really just to switch things up — essentially changes her entire performance midway through. It’s a globe-trotting tour of McCarthy’s talent, throughout which she’s practically always kicking butt. Who was that double-O-what’s-his-face, anyway? “Spy” is the third collaboration between McCarthy and director Paul Feig, who first came together on “Bridesmaids,” and followed that up with the very solid buddy comedy “The Heat,” with Sandra Bullock. They’re soon to embark on a female-led update of “Ghostbusters,” too, which is fitting because their partnership is beginning to resemble that of Bill Murray and Ivan Reitman. Everything they’ve done, starting with the sensation of “Bridesmaids,” has been surrounded with both justi-
fied praise and tiresome overemphasis on the female-ness of their enterprise. “Spy,” too, is in many ways a great inversion of the Bond world, casting men like Jude Law as the eye candy on the side while the center of the movie is played out between women: McCarthy and Rose Byrne’s snobbish, high-couture villain. McCarthy plays Susan Cooper, a contentedly desk-bound CIA operative accustom to aiding far more elegant and suave field agents like the tuxedoclad Bradley Fine (Law, a one-time Bond candidate enjoying the brief fantasy of virtually playing the super spy). While Fine pursues supervillains at a Bulgaria casino, she’s whispering in his earpiece, monitoring above from a drone and swooning over his out-ofreach glamour. Cooper, though, is far away in a Langley headquarters cubical, where the immediate concerns are more humdrum: mouse droppings and birthday cakes. Feig lingers perhaps a tad too long in the film’s first section, but it’s to a purpose: “Spy” is in many ways a workplace comedy about the indignities a capable women must suffer in a male-dominated profession. When well-to-do arms dealer Rayna Boyanov (Byrne) outs all of the CIA’s field agents, Cooper volunteers to go undercover. But the big promotion isn’t all she dreamed of: When prepared for her covert gig,
she’s handed no poison-firing Rolex or a souped-up Porsche, but gadgets hidden in fungal spray and hemorrhoid wipes. Her fake identity isn’t much more exotic: Carole Jenkins, mother of four. Once in Europe, Cooper, outfitted as a tourist, is completely out of place in the “Casino Royale”-like realm of elite espionage. It’s a world that surely doubles for superficial Hollywood, where those who resemble McCarthy are seldom let under the velvet rope. At one high-priced dinner, she blurts an order of wine “with the grit of a hummus.” An agent shadowing her, Richard Ford (Jason Statham) resents her intrusion, while another, the absurdly passionate Italian agent Aldo (Peter Serafinowicz) continually gropes her. Statham nearly steals the film by playing a parody of his own grave, gonzo persona, popping up occasionally to attempt wildly unsuccessful feats of action stardom. The cast, generally, is likable, rounded out with British comedian Miranda Hart as a fellow desk agent and Bobby Cannavale as a terrorist trying to acquire a nuke. “Spy,” a 20th Century Fox release, is rated R for “language throughout, violence, and some sexual content including brief graphic nudity.” Running time: 122 minutes. Future orientation of Bali’s tourism, quantity vs. quality?
DENPASAR - Cultural tourism has been the root concept since the beginning of tourism in Bali, however this concept has been eroding recently. Bali now stands at a crossroads, facing the choice between remaining ‘conservative’ and continuing to base its tourism on culture, or choosing a more dynamic form of development in this new era. Chairman of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali, Dr. Cok Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati AKA Cok Ace said that the former Minister of Tourism, Joop Ave predicted the current condition of Bali tourism in 1990’s when he said that Kuta tourism would dominate the island. “We must not allow this type of tourism to spread to the whole is-
land, but Kuta should be maintained according to its own development is what Mr. Joop expressed. Similar condition are also happening in Ubud, let it be, if anything we should improve the quality of Ubud as a cultural destination,” said Cok Ace after sharing a morning coffee with the Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, in the Bali Tourism Board office on Wednesday

Therefor he has suggested that a focus group discuss the two sides of the issue so that the problem of tourism in Bali can be resolved for today and for the future. “Therefore, intellectuals, thinkers and humanists must sit down and with the understanding that one way or another the tourism is the lynchpin of our economy now and in the future and can therefore not be dismiss. but also that this does not mean that tourism is not facing some difficult challenges.
