NEW YORK — Original drawings and poems created by John Lennon for his acclaimed books “In His Own Write” and “A Spaniard in the Works” will go on the auction block. The books’ British publisher, Tom Maschler, has owned the material for a half century and is offering it for sale at Sotheby’s on Wednesday. It is the largest private collection of the Beatle’s work to come to the market, the auction house said, and prices range from $500 to $70,000. Before becoming famous as a musician, Lennon trained as an artist at the Liverpool School of Art. Maschler called Lennon a man of “extraordinary talent and imagination.” He said in a statement that Lennon’s art has been underrated and he hoped that the auction “will redress the balance.” Among the highlights in the 89-piece collection is a cartoon of a boy with six birds that appeared in “A Spaniard in the Works,” published in 1965. The drawing was used 30 years later as the cover for the Beatles’ single “Free as a Bird.” The song was written by Lennon in
1977. Twenty-five years after the group’s breakup and 15 years after Lennon’s death, it was released with additional instrumentation and vocals from the other three band members in 1995. The cartoon has a pre-sale estimate of $12,000 to $15,000. A nine-page manuscript, a Sherlock Holmes parody titled “The Singularge Experience of Miss Anne Duffield,” is estimated to bring $50,000 to $70,000. “The Fat Budgie,” a beloved nonsense poem, could fetch between $25,000 and $35,000. “In His Own Write” is a collection of 31 short stories and poems, full of puns
and spelling errors, published in 1964. It was a big hit with reviewers, who compared Lennon to Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear. A year later, “A Spaniard in the Works” was published, containing more humorous and nonsensical stories. The title is a pun on the British term “a spanner in the works,” similar to the American expression “a monkey wrench in the works.” Lennon once told the BBC his stories were short because he typed slowly: “I couldn’t be bothered going on.” Maschler, who worked with Lennon on the two books while literary director at Jonathan Cape publishers, has worked with other famous authors, including Tom Wolfe, Edward Albee, Philip Roth and Salman Rushdie.

However, his party did not have a study related to the potential generated by the need of salt in Bali. “I’ve seen salt farmers in Buleleng and Karangasem, but I do not know how much we can empower them to meet the salt needs in Bali. I
observed they remain to process it very traditionally,” he said. He argued the salt imported from Vietnam by Bali required the attention from local government. Thus, the island being rich in potential for salt would be no longer brought in salt products from outside. “We do not know whether the salt produced is not supplied for the needs of Bali or even taken advantage for fertilizer. It
needs a further study,” he said. Meanwhile, the Bali Fisheries and Maritime Agency noted the potential of salt in Bali lay in four counties such as Karangasem (50.55 hectares), Buleleng (110 hectares), Tabanan (2 hectares) and Gianyar (0.30 hectare). Drummer says Midnight Oil keen to reform for tour Associated Press
SYDNEY — Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst says members of the iconic Australian rock band are keen to reunite for a tour, but front man Peter Garret was busy writing a memoir. “Peter’s writing his memoirs at the moment, so that might take a while, but I think everyone’s up for it,” Hirst told Faster Louder online music magazine in an interview published on Tuesday. The lanky, bald-headed singer, now aged 61, quit the band in 2002 to pursue a career in federal politics. He became a Cabinet minister in the previous Labor Party government before quitting Parliament at elections in September last year. Midnight Oil was a loud, anti-establishment band that released a series of successful albums during a 26-year career. Its biggest international hit single was “Beds are Burning” from the band’s 1987 album “Diesel and Dust.” The band has reformed twice for charity concerts: WaveAid in 2005 and Sound Relief in 2009.

TABANAN - Aside from arabica and robusta coffee, Bali plantation has two other superior commodities namely cacao and cashew nut. Both agricultural products are produced in Tabanan, Jembrana and Karangasem. “For cacao, we focus on Tabanan and Jembrana region, although it is also cultivated in other regions. Meanwhile, cashew nut is focused on Kubu, Karangasem. So, we have four leading commodities,” said the Head of Bali Plantation Agency, Dewa Made Bhuana Duwuran, Monday (Jun 2).
He said that cacao plantation in Bali had not been so great. It only spread on the area of about 9,000 hectares. In details, Tabanan had 4,000 hectares and Jembrana approximately 5,000 hectares. “There is no area expansion at all. All the cacao plants are cultivated under coconut trees,” he explained. The production, he added, reached about 1 ton for 1 hectare. So, if they totally reached 9,000 tons. The production for this year was considered good. Meanwhile, other than coffee having got the Geographical Indication (GI) certificate, the cashew nut was also proposed last year.

These conditions require local government to look for the right format for a myriad of issues that can minimize the waste in the culture-based city. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

When best-laid retirement plans meet grand-baby
U.S. children — live with grandparents identified as the head of household. Many of those children have a parent in the household, too. But an estimated 2.7 million are being raised in the absence of parents by grandparents or other close adults, an increase of 18 percent between 2000 and 2010, says a 2012 report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. That means many people are remaking their retirement plans to include kids on short notice as we did, and some are bound to be doing it across borders. While it’s not the leisurely retirement we thought we wanted, in many ways it’s better, starting with the pleasure of watching a beloved child grow up and, through her, participating more deeply in another culture and language. Much of that is happening because we enrolled Elizabeth in a private Mexican preschool, La Casa Azul. The teachers and the program are terrific, the fees are

Through school events, birthday parties and day-to-day contact during drop-offs and pickups, we have friendships and a social life that seem much closer to real life than the more insular and predictable expat lifestyle we imagined.
Of course there are trade-offs. We can’t travel as freely as we’d hoped. And as Elizabeth enters her academic grade levels, we’ll be committed to Mexico from late August to late June. That means we’ll swelter through big chunks of the hot, humid months that we’d have spent farther north if we were on our own. Aside from school tuition, we’re
repeatedly reminded how expensive children are. Prices for Elizabeth’s food, clothing, health care, babysitting, recreation and entertainment have all risen shockingly from what we remember from our first time around as parents. Fortunately, the shock is reduced in a country where consumer prices are lower than in the U.S. by more than 35 percent.

Indeed, many athletes and experts swear by a little nookie the night before a big game, claiming it can relieve stress and induce restorative sleep. More than sexual contact itself, what worries coaches is the all-night revelry and boozing indulged in by athletes in the prime of their youth.

Pam and I began planning our retirement here more than a decade ago while we were both still working. We were going to spend winters in Puerto Vallarta and summers in a small cabin we own in the mountains of southern New Mexico. And that’s just what we’re doing. Interestingly, the Badung government also plans to build an underpass beneath the park. A few days before the war at Uma Kaang, the troops of Gusti Ngurah Rai had settled at Ole hamlet. From this hamlet, his troops planned an attack to the barrack of NICA in Tabanan in order to seize weapons. At this temple, the troops of Ngurah Rai said prayers twice before raiding the barrack of NICA and spent the night before the war at Uma Kaang,” he explained. Further, he said that before the 1980s the Margarana Memorial Day was always coupled with prayers at Dalem Basa Temple. Each flashback event, Ole hamlet was always used as the last place to spend the night in accordance with historical evidence. “Lately, Ole hamlet and Dalem Basa Temple seem to have been forgotten. To that end, this Memorial Park is built at the temple. SYDNEY — A team of Australian researchers looking into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 released data on Wednesday about an unusual underwater sound recorded around the time the plane vanished, though the lead scientist acknowledged the chances it is linked to the jet are slim. The low-frequency sound was picked up by underwater listening devices in the Indian Ocean off the west coast of Australia on March 8, the same day the Boeing 777 disappeared on a flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing with 239 people on board. Researchers at Curtin University in Western Australia have been analyzing the signal to see if it may be the sound of the plane crashing into the ocean. But Alec Duncan, who’s heading up the research, said the sound appears to have originated well outside the jet’s projected flight path that officials determined based on satellite and radar data, and is therefore unlikely to have come from the plane. “It’s one of these situations where you find yourself willing it all to fit together but it really doesn’t,” said Duncan, senior research fellow with Curtin’s Center for Marine Science and Technology. “I’d love to be able to sit here and say, ‘Yeah, we’ve
found this thing and it’s from the plane’ — but the reality is, there’s a lot of things that make noise in the ocean.” The noise could have come from a natural event, such as a small earthquake, Duncan said. He put the chances of it being linked to Flight 370 at less than 20 percent. Soon after the search for the plane moved to the southern Indian Ocean, scientists from Curtin decided to check the data from their underwater acoustic recorders off Rottnest Island, near Perth, to see if they’d picked up anything of interest. The scientists normally use the recorders for environmental research, such as studying whale sounds. This time, however, the data showed a signal that they initially thought might be the aircraft crashing into the ocean — an event that would have produced a low-frequency sound that can travel thousands of kilometers (miles) under the right conditions, Duncan said. The team then checked data from underwater recorders off the southwest tip of Australia that are run by the United Nations’ Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation in Vienna. One of the recorders had picked up a sound consistent with the original signal. That allowed the team to determine which direction the sound came from — though not its precise location.

Consumption added 0.3 percentage points, but some of the gains were partially offset by inventories, which subtracted 0.6 percentage points. The improved GDP figures were foreshadowed by the Reserve Bank of Australia in its monthly meeting on Tuesday, where it held the cash rate at a record low 2.5 percent for the 10th straight month. He said while growth firmed at the start of the year, partly from “very strong increases” in mining exports, such rises would likely become smaller over the next few quarters. DENPASAR - Sea transport passengers through Benoa Harbor, Denpasar, decreased dramatically by 16.48 percent from 29,979 people in March 2014 to 25,039 people in April 2014. Meanwhile, passenger outside the Benoa Harbor was seen to show an increase of 4.65 percent from 123,023 passengers to 128,747 passengers. “For transportation of goods through Benoa Harbor (Denpasar) during the period of April was seen to decline, amounting to 3.12 percent compared to the previous month, from 58,642 tons to 52,823 tons. Meanwhile, from the harbor other than Benoa the transportation of goods increased by 1.02 percent, from 96,589 tons to 97,569 tons,” said the Head of Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali, Panusunan Siregar, in Denpasar. He explained the total number of passengers who departed from some harbors in Bali Province in April 2014 reached 153,786 people. This figure rose slightly, namely 0.51 percent compared to the previous month reaching 153,002 passengers. “The interest of people in using sea transport, particularly in Bali, remains small when compared to air transport. However, in the same period the number of domestic air passengers departing to the main embarkation of aircraft was down 4.37 percent or 163,832 people,” he said. Although the number of passengers increased, the transport of goods for the same period decreased by 3.12 percent or reaching 150,392 tons compared to the previous month reaching the amount of 155,231 tons. Meanwhile, the number of domestic air passengers departing to the main embarkation destination of aircraft in April 2014 to the Jakarta or Soekarno-Hatta Airport amounted to 163,832 people. This figure was down 4.37 percent compared to the previous month reaching 171,311 passengers. The development of domestic air passenger departing to other major destinations showing a decrease other than Soekarno-Hatta was to Bandung and Kupang / Eltari with the decrease percentage respectively 4.09 percent and 14.94 percent. “All the main embarkation destinations showed an increase compared to the previous month,” he said. Further, he explained the number of luggage and domestic air freight from Ngurah Rai Airport in April 2014 reached 2,834,262 kg, down 3.59 percent from the previous month reaching 2,939,884 kg, and goods transportation rose by 439,394 kg or 2.04 percent over the previous month reaching 430,607 kg. In terms of the aircraft departure, so the luggage and goods delivered to the main destination showed an increase and decrease. The delivery of luggage to five flight destinations could be seen that two of them showed an increase for the departure to Lombok Praya and Jogjakarta respectively with 5.28 percent and 15.87 percent. For the delivery of goods, three of them showed an increase. “The highest increase of goods shipment is to Jakarta as much as 10.16 percent, then the second highest is to Lombok Praya at 6.96 percent and the third highest is the delivery of goods to Surabaya at 6.80 percent,” he concluded. VENICE, Italy — The mayor of Venice and more than 30 other people were arrested Wednesday in a sweeping corruption investigation related to the construction of underwater barriers to protect the historic city from flooding, the latest in a series of Italian bribery investigations involving high-profile public works projects. Italian financial police confirmed that Mayor Giorgio Orsoni had been arrested. The ANSA news agency said he was being investigated for alleged corruption, extortion and money laundering. The arrests were the result of a three-year investigation that led to the arrest last summer of the head of the consortium building the ambitious but long-delayed system of so-called Moses barriers. Authorities say 20 million euros ($27 million) was diverted abroad to bribe politicians. The first of the underwater barriers was installed last year. A series of unrelated corruption investigations, mostly involving
bribery or embezzlement accusations, have implicated former highranking government ministers in recent months. Investigations have revolved around some of the biggest Italian public works projects including the Milan world’s fair, Expo 2015, and an Italian-funded water project in Iraq. Most recently, a former interior minister was accused of helping a businessman flee Italy to escape a mafia association sentence. The string of arrests has prompted comparisons to the “Clean Hands” anti-corruption investigations of the 1990s that toppled an entire political class. The one clear difference this time
is that the alleged bribery involves individuals from across the political spectrum rather than political parties enriching themselves. Wednesday’s arrests put more pressure on Premier Matteo Renzi to take action, after his appointment of an anti-corruption czar earlier this year. Over the weekend, the European Commission flagged the deep-rooted problem of corruption as an issue hampering investment and economic renewal in Italy, which ranked 69th in Transparency International’s perceived level of public sector corruption last year — behind Montenegro and just ahead of Kuwait.

OLYMPIA, Washington — The climbers who likely died last week on snow-capped Mount Rainier in Washington state had traveled from as far as Singapore, Minnesota and New York to ascend the glacial peak. The two guides and four clients were all experienced climbers who were taking on a more technical and challenging route to the top of the 14,410-foot (4,392-meter) mountain southeast of Seattle. Erik Britton Kolb, a 34-year-old finance manager at American Express, had traveled from New York to join the group. Kolb had “an adventurous nature and thirst for seeing the world,” his family said in a statement. He had traveled extensively to places such as Jordan, Europe and Tanzania, and he was set to take a trip to Peru this summer. “He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for new and exciting experiences,” the statement said. He lived with his wife, Lisa, in Brooklyn. The identities of the two guides from Seattle-based Alpine Ascents International were released on its website. The company and Mount Rainier National Park have refused to release other names, citing privacy issues, but family members and colleagues have released details on the other climbers. Intel Corp. spokesman Bill Calder confirmed that his colleague Uday Marty, a vice president and managing director of Intel in Southeast Asia, was among the group of climbers. Marty, who was based in Singapore, was “widely loved and respected at this company,” Calder told The Associated Press. “We are most definitely mourning his loss here.” Marty, 40, managed sales and marketing in the Asia region and had previously managed global notebook marketing out of the company’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, according to his biography on the Intel website. He joined the company in 1996. “He was a guy with a great attitude, and he always had a big smile,” Calder said. It’s not known whether a rock fall, avalanche or other problem caused the climbers to fall from their last known whereabouts at 12,800 feet (3,900 meters) on Liberty Ridge. They were last heard from at 6 p.m. May 28 when the guides checked in with Alpine Ascents by satellite phone. JAKARTA — The leaders of Indonesia and Australia will meet Wednesday for the first time since relations between the countries were damaged over spying allegations. Outgoing Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will host Prime Minister Tony Abbott on the island of Batam, in a brief stopover for the Australian leader on his way to Europe. The relationship is important for both countries, but comes with historical, cultural and political sensitivities that have brought periods of volatility. In November, Indonesia downgraded relations with Canberra over reported Australian phone-tapping of Yudhoyono, his wife and eight Indonesian ministers and officials in 2009. Indonesia said it would discuss “a code of conduct” on intelligence issues that it says will be needed before full ties can resume. Australia needs Indonesian cooperation on stopping asylum seekers from the Middle East and South Asia from arriving on its shores. Speaking before he left, Abbott said he hoped to soon reach some form of agreement on intelligence. “There has been some rough patches in the relationship with Indonesia over the last nine months or so ... that this Government has to deal with and I am proposing to deal with that today,” he said. The spying allegations came from documents leaked by former National Security Agency operative Edward Snowden. The breakdown in relations was the most serious since 1999, when Australia led a U.N. military force into the former Indonesian province of East Timor following a bloody independence ballot.

PEKANBARU - Indonesia has the opportunity to manage US$70 million for the Forest Investment Program (FIP), a communitybased sustainable natural resource management initiative that involves the local government, public and private sector. “The total funding of US$70 million comprises US$37.5 million grant and US$3.2 million soft loan to the private sector,” noted Special Staff of the Forestry Ministry for Economy and Trade I.B. Putera Parhama. Putera explained that the FIP is part of the Climate Investment Funds and sources its funding from eight donor countries: Australia, Denmark, Japan, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The eight donor countries have allocated US$600 million for the FIP to be implemented in eight pilot countries. Indonesia and Brazil have received the largest allocation, each of US$70 million. The funds are channeled through international agencies, such as the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). FIP for Indonesia was approved by a subcommittee on November 5, 2012, in Istanbul, Turkey. The goal is to overcome barriers related to the implementation of the REDD+ project and to improve provincial and local capacity by conducting effective and sustainable forest management.
JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has warned his ministers who join the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates’ campaign teams to be able to allocate commensurate time for both state duties and political activities. “If they want to be part or play an active role in the candidates’ campaign rallies, they can choose to leave the cabinet whenever it is impossible for them to keep performing well in their ministerial posts,” he told a plenary cabinet meeting on Wednesday. President Yudhoyono reiterated that he would allow his ministers who join any presidential and vice president candidates’ campaign teams to take a one-day leave in addition to their rights to have holidays on Saturdays and Sundays. “The regulations have been obvious. So please use the time at best. I do not put you in trouble. What I want you to do is please allocate commensurate time because I am responsible for (the govern-
ment),” he said. The head of state further asked his ministers to meet the administrative rules and regulations regarding their requests for taking leaves for the presidential election campaign rallies so that there would not be any problem in the future. He said earlier that the plenary cabinet meeting, attended by Vice President Boediono and cabinet members, was held to ensure that all ministers keep focusing on their jobs and he would present the result of his evaluation of his ministers’ performance. PARIS - There was no Serena Williams standing in her way but the absence of her American nemesis did not stop Maria Sharapova from almost fluffing her lines on Tuesday before she set up a semi-final date at the French Open with Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. At 6-1 5-4 down, the Russian was on the verge of being toppled by the same Spanish gale force that had blown away Williams in the second round. The agony of that loss, San Antonio’s first in five trips to the finals, led James to surmise that the Spurs aren’t very fond of the Heat. “They don’t like us. GOIANIA, Brazil — Neymar scored one goal and set up two others to help Brazil defeat Panama 4-0 in a World Cup warm-up match on Tuesday. Neymar broke the deadlock with a well-struck free kick from just outside the area in the 26th minute, and then sent a perfect back-heel pass for Hulk to score less than a minute into the second half. Neymar also started the move that led to Willian scoring in the 73rd. Neymar’s Barcelona teammate Dani Alves had struck Brazil’s second goal with a right footed shot in the 40th. Neymar’s goal was the 200th of his career, and 31st with the national team. Despite his solid performance, he said he still has to improve for the World Cup. “I’m still not ready. I got tired there at the end,” Neymar said. “Little by little in practice I’m improving and getting better physically. There are still nine days left.” It was Brazil’s second-to-last match before the World Cup opener against Croatia on June 12 in Sao Paulo. The five-time world champion will play Serbia on Friday, also in Sao Paulo. “It was a valid test,” Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said. “We have to understand that we haven’t played together for nearly three months and we only had seven days to prepare so far. LONDON - Chelsea have announced Eden Hazard is to wear the number 10 shirt next term, effectively scotching media reports that the Belgium World Cup winger could be leaving the club in the close season. Hazard had been tipped to join team mate David Luiz at Paris St Germain. Terms have been agreed between the clubs and the Brazil World Cup defender is on the brink of completing a move to the Ligue 1 champions. “I am very pleased to be able to wear the number 10 for Chelsea,” Hazard told the club’s website

Hajrovic scored in the 41st minute and Begovic made a pair of big saves in the second half of Bosnia’s 1-0 victory over Mexico in a pre-World Cup friendly. “We must be careful,” midfielder Zvjezdan Misimovic said. “The first game against Argentina (on June 15) is very tough. I think it’s one level up from Mexico.” Mismovic noted that many in his country remain homeless after massive flooding. “I hope we can put a smile on their faces for 90 minutes each game,” Mismovic said. Hajrovic maneuvered into open space 8 yards from the net and leftfooted Sejad Salihovic’s feed from the left side past diving keeper Alfredo Talavera. MIAMI GARDENS, Florida — Struggling up front for England, Wayne Rooney is set to be shunted to the left wing as coach Roy Hodgson experiments ahead of the World Cup in the team’s penultimate warm-up game. He was unimpressive against Ecuador in Miami Gardens on Wednesday, as he was in Friday’s 3-0 victory over Peru at Wembley Stadium, and there will be rising reservations about Rooney’s right to start in Brazil. The Manchester United striker has now gone four matches without scoring for England, although he was returning from a month out with a groin injury against Peru. Now is Rooney’s chance to show his versatility, even if it is out on the left flank where he complained previously he can’t express himself as much, with Rickie Lambert in line to lead the attack. “He can do that (role), absolutely,” Hodgson said Tuesday at the Sun Life Stadium where England plays Ecuador. “I think Wayne’s a very useful player in the sense you don’t have to pin him down and say this is the only position he can play. “He can play center forward, behind the center forward and wide. If he’s done all of those things at the very top level for Manchester United, there is no reason why I can’t use him in those positions as well.” Hodgson is growing increasingly exacerbated about the level of scrutiny Rooney is under. It’s little surprise though when Rooney, who can be so explosive for Manchester United where he earns more than $400,000 a week, too often disappoints on international duty. Particularly at World Cups where Rooney failed to score at the 2006 and 2010 tournaments. “You decide the epithets,” Hodgson said in a tetchy exchange with reporters. “You make him exceptional or, after the last game I understand, quite a few people made him less than exceptional. They criticized his performance. That’s your decision ... I’m not saying if he’s exceptional or not. I have picked him because he is a very good player.” Needing to prove his sharpness, Rooney is set to be the only player retained from the Peru game when England was far from convincing against a team that didn’t qualify for the World Cup. “We think that he’s recovering his match fitness,” Hodgson said. “We think that starting a game will be to his advantage to play a part tomorrow, and we’ll see how long he plays and that will be based on how we think his fitness is progressing.”

Neymar broke the deadlock with a well-struck free kick from just outside the area in the 26th minute, and then sent a perfect back-heel pass for Hulk to score less than a minute into the second half. Neymar also started the move that led to Willian scoring in the 73rd. Neymar’s Barcelona teammate Dani Alves had struck Brazil’s second goal with a right footed shot in the 40th. Neymar’s goal was the 200th of his career, and 31st with the national team. Despite his solid performance, he said he still has to improve for the World Cup. “I’m still not ready. I got tired there at the end,” Neymar said. “Little by little in practice I’m improving and getting better physically. There are still nine days left.” It was Brazil’s second-to-last match before the World Cup opener against Croatia on June 12 in Sao Paulo. The five-time world champion will play Serbia on Friday, also in Sao Paulo. “It was a valid test,” Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said. “We have to understand that we haven’t played together for nearly three months and we only had seven days to prepare so far. You have to take that into consideration. We didn’t play well in the beginning but I liked the team’s performance during the rest of the match.” Brazil had been struggling until the first goal and fans had started to jeer their team at the nearly packed Serra Dourada Stadium in the central city of Goiania. Panama was in control and created most of the scoring chances in the early stages, upsetting fans and prompting Scolari to leave his bench several times to talk to his players. “In the first 20 or 25 minutes things didn’t go well for us. The defense and the attack were too separated and we couldn’t get a sequence of passes together,” Scolari said. “After the goal we improved. But things could have been different if we had played against a team that was at a higher level.” The more than 30,000 fans at the Serra Dourada were starting to jeer when Neymar was pulled down at the edge of the area for the foul that led to his goal. He curled a right footed shot over the wall and into the upper left corner of the net to get the crowd behind the team again. Neymar several times turned to the fans and asked them to cheer and keep supporting the team. “I have to ask the fans to be a little bit more patient,” Neymar said. “We started slowly but with time we improved and got the goals we needed for the victory.”

Hazard handed Chelsea No. 10 shirt next season

LONDON - Chelsea have announced Eden Hazard is to wear the number 10 shirt next term, effectively scotching media reports that the Belgium World Cup winger could be leaving the club in the close season. Hazard had been tipped to join team mate David Luiz at Paris St Germain. Terms have been agreed between the clubs and the Brazil World Cup defender is on the brink of completing a move to the Ligue 1 champions. “I am very pleased to be able to wear the number 10 for Chelsea,” Hazard told the club’s website

The Dragons have midfielder Izet Hajrovic and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to thank for turning their fortune around Tuesday night. PARIS - There was no Serena Williams standing in her way but the absence of her American nemesis did not stop Maria Sharapova from almost fluffing her lines on Tuesday before she set up a semi-final date at the French Open with Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. VENICE, Italy — The mayor of Venice and more than 30 other people were arrested Wednesday in a sweeping corruption investigation related to the construction of underwater barriers to protect the historic city from flooding, the latest in a series of Italian bribery investigations involving high-profile public works projects. Italian financial police confirmed that Mayor Giorgio Orsoni had been arrested. The ANSA news agency said he was being investigated for alleged corruption, extortion and money laundering. The arrests were the result of a three-year investigation that led to the arrest last summer of the head of the consortium building the ambitious but long-delayed system of so-called Moses barriers. Authorities say 20 million euros ($27 million) was diverted abroad to bribe politicians. The first of the underwater barriers was installed last year. A series of unrelated corruption investigations, mostly involving
bribery or embezzlement accusations, have implicated former highranking government ministers in recent months. Investigations have revolved around some of the biggest Italian public works projects including the Milan world’s fair, Expo 2015, and an Italian-funded water project in Iraq. Most recently, a former interior minister was accused of helping a businessman flee Italy to escape a mafia association sentence. The string of arrests has prompted comparisons to the “Clean Hands” anti-corruption investigations of the 1990s that toppled an entire political class. The one clear difference this time
is that the alleged bribery involves individuals from across the political spectrum rather than political parties enriching themselves. Wednesday’s arrests put more pressure on Premier Matteo Renzi to take action, after his appointment of an anti-corruption czar earlier this year. Over the weekend, the European Commission flagged the deep-rooted problem of corruption as an issue hampering investment and economic renewal in Italy, which ranked 69th in Transparency International’s perceived level of public sector corruption last year — behind Montenegro and just ahead of Kuwait.

OLYMPIA, Washington — The climbers who likely died last week on snow-capped Mount Rainier in Washington state had traveled from as far as Singapore, Minnesota and New York to ascend the glacial peak. The two guides and four clients were all experienced climbers who were taking on a more technical and challenging route to the top of the 14,410-foot (4,392-meter) mountain southeast of Seattle. Erik Britton Kolb, a 34-year-old finance manager at American Express, had traveled from New York to join the group. Kolb had “an adventurous nature and thirst for seeing the world,” his family said in a statement. He had traveled extensively to places such as Jordan, Europe and Tanzania, and he was set to take a trip to Peru this summer. “He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for new and exciting experiences,” the statement said. He lived with his wife, Lisa, in Brooklyn. The identities of the two guides from Seattle-based Alpine Ascents International were released on its website. The company and Mount Rainier National Park have refused to release other names, citing privacy issues, but family members and colleagues have released details on the other climbers. Intel Corp. spokesman Bill Calder confirmed that his colleague Uday Marty, a vice president and managing director of Intel in Southeast Asia, was among the group of climbers. Marty, who was based in Singapore, was “widely loved and respected at this company,” Calder told The Associated Press. “We are most definitely mourning his loss here.” Marty, 40, managed sales and marketing in the Asia region and had previously managed global notebook marketing out of the company’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, according to his biography on the Intel website. He joined the company in 1996. “He was a guy with a great attitude, and he always had a big smile,” Calder said. It’s not known whether a rock fall, avalanche or other problem caused the climbers to fall from their last known whereabouts at 12,800 feet (3,900 meters) on Liberty Ridge. INDONESIA Indonesia, Australia leaders to hold make-up talks Associated Press
JAKARTA — The leaders of Indonesia and Australia will meet Wednesday for the first time since relations between the countries were damaged over spying allegations. Outgoing Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will host Prime Minister Tony Abbott on the island of Batam, in a brief stopover for the Australian leader on his way to Europe. The relationship is important for both countries, but comes with historical, cultural and political sensitivities that have brought periods of volatility. In November, Indonesia downgraded relations with Canberra over reported Australian phone-tapping of Yudhoyono, his wife and eight Indonesian ministers and officials in 2009. Indonesia said it would discuss “a code of conduct” on intelligence issues that it says will be needed before full ties can resume. Australia needs Indonesian cooperation on stopping asylum seekers from the Middle East and South Asia from arriving on its shores. PEKANBARU - Indonesia has the opportunity to manage US$70 million for the Forest Investment Program (FIP), a communitybased sustainable natural resource management initiative that involves the local government, public and private sector. “The total funding of US$70 million comprises US$37.5 million grant and US$3.2 million soft loan to the private sector,” noted Special Staff of the Forestry Ministry for Economy and Trade I.B. Putera Parhama. Putera explained that the FIP is part of the Climate Investment Funds and sources its funding from eight donor countries: Australia, Denmark, Japan, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The eight donor countries have allocated US$600 million for the FIP to be implemented in eight pilot countries. Indonesia and Brazil have received the largest allocation, each of US$70 million. The funds are channeled through international agencies, such as the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). FIP for Indonesia was approved by a subcommittee on November 5, 2012, in Istanbul, Turkey. The goal is to overcome barriers related to the implementation of the REDD+ project and to improve provincial and local capacity by conducting effective and sustainable forest management.

Hockey said while it was clear Australia relied heavily on its mining exports, the expansion in other sectors “show that the expected transition away from mining investment and construction towards other drivers of growth is underway”. He added: “This is an important indicator that the rest of the economy -- the non-mining side of the economy -- is starting to lift, and that’s encouraging.” The Australian dollar rose by a third of a US cent to 92.92 US cents on the back of the figures, which followed a 0.8 percent expansion in the three months to December. The mining sector made up 80 percent of growth in January-March as net exports contributed 1.4 percentage points to the final figure. Consumption added 0.3 percentage points, but some of the gains were partially offset by inventories, which subtracted 0.6 percentage points. Hockey said milder weather at the start of 2014 played a part in boosting exports. “It’s an extraordinary quarter in March when you don’t have cyclones, particularly in Western Australia affecting Port Hedland, so our miners are exporting their socks off, and thank God because it’s having
a positive impact on our economy,” he said. But he cautioned that “one swallow doesn’t make a summer”. Port Hedland, Australia’s largest iron ore export port, is located in the resource-rich Pilbara region on the country’s west coast. Tropical cyclones are common in Australia’s northeast and northwest. The improved GDP figures were foreshadowed by the Reserve Bank of Australia in its monthly meeting on Tuesday, where it held the cash rate at a record low 2.5 percent for the 10th straight month. Central bank governor Glenn Stevens flagged a “period of stability” in monetary policy in a cautiously optimistic statement about the economy. He said while growth firmed at the start of the year, partly from “very strong increases” in mining exports, such rises would likely become smaller over the next few quarters. The Australian economy has not slipped into recession -- as measured by two consecutive quarters of negative growth -- for more than two decades. The country is exiting an unprecedented boom in the mining sector, which helped boost the economy even as other nations were hit by the global financial crisis.

DENPASAR - Sea transport passengers through Benoa Harbor, Denpasar, decreased dramatically by 16.48 percent from 29,979 people in March 2014 to 25,039 people in April 2014. Meanwhile, passenger outside the Benoa Harbor was seen to show an increase of 4.65 percent from 123,023 passengers to 128,747 passengers. “For transportation of goods through Benoa Harbor (Denpasar) during the period of April was seen to decline, amounting to 3.12 percent compared to the previous month, from 58,642 tons to 52,823 tons. Meanwhile, from the harbor other than Benoa the transportation of goods increased by 1.02 percent, from 96,589 tons to 97,569 tons,” said the Head of Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali, Panusunan Siregar, in Denpasar. He explained the total number of passengers who departed from some harbors in Bali Province in April 2014 reached 153,786 people. This figure rose slightly, namely 0.51 percent compared to the previous month reaching 153,002 passengers. “The interest of people in using sea transport, particularly in Bali, remains small when compared to air transport. However, in the same period the number of domestic air passengers departing to the main embarkation of aircraft was down 4.37 percent or 163,832 people,” he said. Although the number of passengers increased, the transport of goods for the same period decreased by 3.12 percent or reaching 150,392 tons compared to the previous month reaching the amount of 155,231 tons. Meanwhile, the number of domestic air passengers departing to the main embarkation destination of aircraft in April 2014 to the Jakarta or Soekarno-Hatta Airport amounted to 163,832 people. This figure was down 4.37 percent compared to the previous month reaching 171,311 passengers. The development of domestic air passenger departing to other major destinations showing a decrease other than Soekarno-Hatta was to Bandung and Kupang / Eltari with the decrease percentage respectively 4.09 percent and 14.94 percent. “All the main embarkation destinations showed an increase compared to the previous month,” he said. Further, he explained the number of luggage and domestic air freight from Ngurah Rai Airport in April 2014 reached 2,834,262 kg, down 3.59 percent from the previous month reaching 2,939,884 kg, and goods transportation rose by 439,394 kg or 2.04 percent over the previous month reaching 430,607 kg. In terms of the aircraft departure, so the luggage and goods delivered to the main destination showed an increase and decrease. The delivery of luggage to five flight destinations could be seen that two of them showed an increase for the departure to Lombok Praya and Jogjakarta respectively with 5.28 percent and 15.87 percent. For the delivery of goods, three of them showed an increase. “The highest increase of goods shipment is to Jakarta as much as 10.16 percent, then the second highest is to Lombok Praya at 6.96 percent and the third highest is the delivery of goods to Surabaya at 6.80 percent,” he concluded. SYDNEY — A team of Australian researchers looking into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 released data on Wednesday about an unusual underwater sound recorded around the time the plane vanished, though the lead scientist acknowledged the chances it is linked to the jet are slim. The low-frequency sound was picked up by underwater listening devices in the Indian Ocean off the west coast of Australia on March 8, the same day the Boeing 777 disappeared on a flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing with 239 people on board. Researchers at Curtin University in Western Australia have been analyzing the signal to see if it may be the sound of the plane crashing into the ocean. But Alec Duncan, who’s heading up the research, said the sound appears to have originated well outside the jet’s projected flight path that officials determined based on satellite and radar data, and is therefore unlikely to have come from the plane. “It’s one of these situations where you find yourself willing it all to fit together but it really doesn’t,” said Duncan, senior research fellow with Curtin’s Center for Marine Science and Technology. “I’d love to be able to sit here and say, ‘Yeah, we’ve
found this thing and it’s from the plane’ — but the reality is, there’s a lot of things that make noise in the ocean.” The noise could have come from a natural event, such as a small earthquake, Duncan said. He put the chances of it being linked to Flight 370 at less than 20 percent. Soon after the search for the plane moved to the southern Indian Ocean, scientists from Curtin decided to check the data from their underwater acoustic recorders off Rottnest Island, near Perth, to see if they’d picked up anything of interest. The scientists normally use the recorders for environmental research, such as studying whale sounds. This time, however, the data showed a signal that they initially thought might be the aircraft crashing into the ocean — an event that would have produced a low-frequency sound that can travel thousands of kilometers (miles) under the right conditions, Duncan said. The team then checked data from underwater recorders off the southwest tip of Australia that are run by the United Nations’ Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation in Vienna. One of the recorders had picked up a sound consistent with the original signal. That allowed the team to determine which direction the sound came from — though not its precise location.

But an estimated 2.7 million are being raised in the absence of parents by grandparents or other close adults, an increase of 18 percent between 2000 and 2010, says a 2012 report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. That means many people are remaking their retirement plans to include kids on short notice as we did, and some are bound to be doing it across borders. While it’s not the leisurely retirement we thought we wanted, in many ways it’s better, starting with the pleasure of watching a beloved child grow up and, through her, participating more deeply in another culture and language. Through school events, birthday parties and day-to-day contact during drop-offs and pickups, we have friendships and a social life that seem much closer to real life than the more insular and predictable expat lifestyle we imagined.
Of course there are trade-offs. We can’t travel as freely as we’d hoped. And as Elizabeth enters her academic grade levels, we’ll be committed to Mexico from late August to late June. That means we’ll swelter through big chunks of the hot, humid months that we’d have spent farther north if we were on our own. Aside from school tuition, we’re

Prices for Elizabeth’s food, clothing, health care, babysitting, recreation and entertainment have all risen shockingly from what we remember from our first time around as parents. MANGUPURA - The roundabout area of Ngurah Rai Airport to the front area of the mosque at Griya hamlet, Tuban, Kuta subdistrict will be transformed into a lush urban park. Interestingly, the Badung government also plans to build an underpass beneath the park. The underpass will be specifically intended for pedestrians equipped diorama on the struggles of the national hero I Gusti Ngurah Rai. The plan was disclosed by the Regent of Badung, AA Gde Agung, Monday (Jun 2). According to him, the park and underpass project would be carried out in stages. Construction of the underpass would begin with the preparation of detailed engineering design (DED) budgeted in the amended regional budget 2014. Physical project of the underpass was planned to start in 2015. While the urban park would be planted with shade trees expected to cost up to IDR 2 billion. The underpass would be different from the one at the Dewa Ruci intersection because it would be only intended for pedestrians. The underpass would also be
equipped with a diorama on the struggles of the national hero I Gusti Ngurah Rai. “Thus, pedestrians can simultaneously watch the illustrations on the struggle of the great hero. To that end, we will ask for permission to the family of I Gusti Ngurah Rai,” he said. Gde Agung said it would be very unfortunate if the green open space of about 1.2 hectares from the east of horse statue to the airport roundabout would not be used for the benefit of society. It was the reason for Badung government to transform the area into an urban park. The underpass would also help people cross the road whose traffic was very crowded. He added the arrangement of the region would also be accompanied with the demolition of billboard in the local area. TABANAN - Aside from arabica and robusta coffee, Bali plantation has two other superior commodities namely cacao and cashew nut. Both agricultural products are produced in Tabanan, Jembrana and Karangasem. “For cacao, we focus on Tabanan and Jembrana region, although it is also cultivated in other regions. Meanwhile, cashew nut is focused on Kubu, Karangasem. So, we have four leading commodities,” said the Head of Bali Plantation Agency, Dewa Made Bhuana Duwuran, Monday (Jun 2).
He said that cacao plantation in Bali had not been so great. It only spread on the area of about 9,000 hectares. In details, Tabanan had 4,000 hectares and Jembrana approximately 5,000 hectares. “There is no area expansion at all. All the cacao plants are cultivated under coconut trees,” he explained. The production, he added, reached about 1 ton for 1 hectare. So, if they totally reached 9,000 tons. The production for this year was considered good. Meanwhile, other than coffee having got the Geographical Indication (GI) certificate, the cashew nut was also proposed last year.

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

NEW YORK — Original drawings and poems created by John Lennon for his acclaimed books “In His Own Write” and “A Spaniard in the Works” will go on the auction block. The books’ British publisher, Tom Maschler, has owned the material for a half century and is offering it for sale at Sotheby’s on Wednesday. It is the largest private collection of the Beatle’s work to come to the market, the auction house said, and prices range from $500 to $70,000. Before becoming famous as a musician, Lennon trained as an artist at the Liverpool School of Art. Maschler called Lennon a man of “extraordinary talent and imagination.” He said in a statement that Lennon’s art has been underrated and he hoped that the auction “will redress the balance.” Among the highlights in the 89-piece collection is a cartoon of a boy with six birds that appeared in “A Spaniard in the Works,” published in 1965. The drawing was used 30 years later as the cover for the Beatles’ single “Free as a Bird.” The song was written by Lennon in
1977. Twenty-five years after the group’s breakup and 15 years after Lennon’s death, it was released with additional instrumentation and vocals from the other three band members in 1995. The cartoon has a pre-sale estimate of $12,000 to $15,000. and spelling errors, published in 1964. It was a big hit with reviewers, who compared Lennon to Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear. A year later, “A Spaniard in the Works” was published, containing more humorous and nonsensical stories. The title is a pun on the British term “a spanner in the works,” similar to the American expression “a monkey wrench in the works.” Lennon once told the BBC his stories were short because he typed slowly: “I couldn’t be bothered going on.” Maschler, who worked with Lennon on the two books while literary director at Jonathan Cape publishers, has worked with other famous authors, including Tom Wolfe, Edward Albee, Philip Roth and Salman Rushdie.

However, his party did not have a study related to the potential generated by the need of salt in Bali. “I’ve seen salt farmers in Buleleng and Karangasem, but I do not know how much we can empower them to meet the salt needs in Bali. I
observed they remain to process it very traditionally,” he said. He argued the salt imported from Vietnam by Bali required the attention from local government. Thus, the island being rich in potential for salt would be no longer brought in salt products from outside. “We do not know whether the salt produced is not supplied for the needs of Bali or even taken advantage for fertilizer. It
needs a further study,” he said. Meanwhile, the Bali Fisheries and Maritime Agency noted the potential of salt in Bali lay in four counties such as Karangasem (50.55 hectares), Buleleng (110 hectares), Tabanan (2 hectares) and Gianyar (0.30 hectare). Drummer says Midnight Oil keen to reform for tour Associated Press
SYDNEY — Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst says members of the iconic Australian rock band are keen to reunite for a tour, but front man Peter Garret was busy writing a memoir. “Peter’s writing his memoirs at the moment, so that might take a while, but I think everyone’s up for it,” Hirst told Faster Louder online music magazine in an interview published on Tuesday. The lanky, bald-headed singer, now aged 61, quit the band in 2002 to pursue a career in federal politics. He became a Cabinet minister in the previous Labor Party government before quitting Parliament at elections in September last year. Midnight Oil was a loud, anti-establishment band that released a series of successful albums during a 26-year career. Its biggest international hit single was “Beds are Burning” from the band’s 1987 album “Diesel and Dust.” The band has reformed twice for charity concerts: WaveAid in 2005 and Sound Relief in 2009.
