In papers filed in December in San Francisco Superior Court, Williams’ wife, Susan, says some of the late actor’s personal items were taken without her permission and asks the court to exclude the contents of the Tiburon home that she shared with Williams from the jewelry, memorabilia and other items Williams said the children should have. The children, Zachary, Zelda and Cody, counter that Susan Williams is “adding insult to a terrible injury” by trying to change the trust agreement and rob them of the late actor’s clothing and other personal items. “The Williams’ children are heartbroken that Petitioner, Mr. Williams’ wife of less than three years, has acted against his wishes by challenging the plans he so carefully made for his estate,” attorneys for the children said in court papers. NEW YORK — Bobbi Kristina Brown is fighting for her life, according to a statement from the Houston family Monday. Police said the 21-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown was taken to a hospital Saturday after she was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in a suburban Atlanta townhome. The statement said that Brown is surrounded by immediate family and that the family was requesting privacy. No more details were provided. “We are asking you to honor our request for privacy during this difficult time,” the statement read. “Thank you for your prayers, well wishes, and we greatly appreciate your continued support. “ Whitney Houston was found dead in a hotel bathtub in 2012. “Most of the tourists landed in Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, by direct flights from their countries. Only 34,903 tourists came by cruisers,” Head of the Bali Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Panusunan Siregar said on Monday. The number surpassed the target set by Bali at 2,9 million foreign tourists in 2014. Of the ten top tourist sources, nine showed significant increase,
and only Taiwan recorded a drop from 127,443 people in 2013 to 114,504 in 2014. Australia sent 991,923 tourists to Bali last year, up 20.03 percent from 826,385 in 2013. He said the Australian tourists constituted 26.33 percent of the total foreign tourists visiting the Island of Gods, followed by China 586,300 tourists, or an increase of 51.29 percent from 387,533 people in 2013.
In the third place is Malaysia with 225,572 tourists last year, or up by 13.23 percent from 199,223 in the previous year; followed by Japan 217,402 tourists, a hike of 4.46 percent from 208,115 people; Singapore 179,719 tourists; South Korea 146,088; France 128,350; Britain 127,040; Taiwan 114,504; and the USA 111,640 tourists last year. In the meantime, 9.44 million foreign tourists visited Indonesia in

NEGARA - Proliferation of café as nightclubs having reached rural areas triggers social problems in the community. When calculated regarding its positive-negative impact, the negative impact is more prominent in the people’s life. Rarely there is success story because people like to play at café. Even what they obtain is only misery either in the form of material having been drained or the loss of life. In Jembrana, for example, there are many impacts on social facts where people fall in love with cafés. Their sufferings are ranging from the infection of deadly diseases, HIV/AIDS to the draining of possessions for the sake of a café girl. There are
many interesting facts related to the identity of Balinese people left when setting foot at cafés. They will forget the time (feast day and activities) and get drunk due to liquor, drug and exotic waitresses mostly consisting of migrants. The shift in the amicable Balinese human to become violent and temperamental has been ignited by toxin of the alcoholic drinks. Even, in a feast day falling on full moon, Bali Post found a group of
teenagers dressed in worship attires (headdress, sarong and white shirt) visited one of the cafés at Delod Berawah at midnight. Although just drinking beer, it was highly deplored because they still put on worship attires. Another fact is the craze for listening to and singing songs of East Java. The folk songs of East Java becoming the close neighbor to Jembrana are always played at almost all cafés in Jembrana. On
average the fans of the song are teenagers. The fact that the café waitress vulnerably becomes a disease carrier is not wrong. Of the frequent population administration control made by the Jembrana Municipal Police in 2014, more than two women having profession as café waitress were recorded to have been positive to HIV/AIDS. The results were obtained when the Health Agency officers conducted an intense counseling to café girls and volunteers. The Head of the Jembrana Municipal Police, IGN Rai Budi, said that since taking
office he already found two café girls in Mendoyo subdistrict were ensnared and declared to be HIV positive after taking a VCT test. Other than at café, there was also woman working as prostitute at Melaya village. Municipal Police took action by deporting them to their region of origin. Together with the Health Agency, his party supervised the three positive women. The government did not have the right to ban them from entering into and exiting from Jembrana, but would still conduct monitoring and counseling through the Health Agency. (olo)

The latest case was experienced by PW, 36, a Balinese man from Tegalcangkring, Mendoyo, who married a café girl M, 48, from Lumajang, East Java. PW knew his wife at one of the cafés at Yehkuning. From his association, PW fell in love with the woman having had three children until sacrificed his possessions in order that he could go to cafe and met the necessities. Rather, it can be replaced with two simple menus namely boiled bananas and tubers,” he explained. Besides, these foods contain high enough fiber so they are useful to facilitate the digestive tract. The
preparation is also too easy, namely by boiling the bananas in water containing salt to taste. Boiled bananas can also be mixed with sugar or grated cheese,” said the chef having a hobby to play badminton. Mudiana suggested that, other than boiled bananas, the typical tubers of Indonesia were also tasty to serve for breakfast menu. They were cassava, potato, taro and yam. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Tech firms hint at more restraint
SAN FRANCISCO — Technology’s big-spending trio of Google, Facebook, and Amazon. com appear to be tightening their belts — at least a notch — in a concession to cost-conscious investors and a strong dollar that’s taking a big bite out of their revenue. Hints of restraint were sprinkled throughout the companies’ latest quarterly reports released last week. Expenses at all three are still expected to rise faster than revenue this year, but Google Inc., Facebook Inc. and Amazon. com Inc. signaled that spending increases might not be as dramatic as expected. The message boosted all of their stocks, which had been in Wall Street’s penalty box for the companies’ free-spending ways. The shift can be traced to economic turmoil in Europe and Asia that has caused the dollar’s value to rise against many other currencies, said BGC Financial analyst Colin Gillis. Revenue coming in from overseas will translate into fewer dollars — potentially chopping about 4 percent off of 2015 revenue compared with 2014, Gillis estimates. “That’s a significant hit,” said Gillis. “They all have massive opportunities ahead that they want to pursue, but they are also going out of their way to sound more prudent.” Amazon’s moderation was the most obvious: the e-commerce company’s fourth-quarter operating expenses rose at a slower pace than analysts had anticipated. That delighted investors who have become increasingly frustrated with recurring losses driven by CEO Jeff Bezos’ prolific spending on data centers, distribution centers, gadgets and drones. Amazon shares, which had hit a 52-week low after the company’s prior earnings report in October, spiked nearly 14 percent on the fourth-quarter results. “It looks like Amazon does actually care about its stock and profits,” Macquarie Securities analyst Ben Schachter wrote in a research note. Amazon earned
$214 million in the fourth quarter. The change was more about tone than the actual numbers released by Facebook and Google, since spending at both companies still accelerated in the fourth quarter. Investors initially seemed spooked but settled down after reassuring remarks from Facebook and Google executives. Since their last quarterly earnings reports in October, Google’s shares had fallen 4 percent and Facebook’s shares slipped 6 percent. But the day after announcing earnings last week, Google shares rose nearly 5 percent and Facebook climbed 2 percent. Google Chief Financial Officer Patrick Pichette stressed that the search giant’s expenses included $300 million in one-time accounting items and emphasized the company’s commitment to finding “a healthy balance between growth and discipline.” That balancing act prompted the company to recently suspend consumer sales of Google Glass, its Internetconnected eyewear, in an effort to design a version more likely to appeal to customers. Without providing specifics, Pichette promised Google will cancel other projects that “don’t have the impact we had hoped for.” Meanwhile, Facebook revised its 2015 budget. The social networking leader’s costs may increase by as much as 70 percent this year, down from a previous ceiling of 75 percent, according to Chief Financial Officer David Wehner. Google, Facebook and Amazon all spend heavily in effort to maintain the competitive advantages they built on desktop and laptop computers as tech usage now tilts toward smartphones and tablets.
The companies also splurge on expensive experiments that may never pay off but that they view as valuable research. Google plows money into a wide range of projects such as driverless cars, life-like robots, intelligent appliances, Internetbeaming balloons and satellites and even a quest to discover the Fountain of Youth. CEO Larry Page justifies these “moonshots” by pointing to hugely successful products such as Google’s Android operating system, Chrome browser and YouTube video sites that were once viewed as ill-advised investments. Facebook has been expanding into virtual reality and mobile messaging. Amazon.com is developing a fleet of drones to deliver packages to customers, creating its own original television shows, while also dabbling in a variety of gadgets such as the FireStick and Fire phone aimed at making it easier for people to buy goods from its website. Executives from all three companies acknowledge some of these projects are bound to fail, but some will be so successful that they will more than offset losses stemming from the flops. “Bold bets...pay for a lot of failures,” Bezos said during a technology conference in December. “I’ve made billions of dollars of failures at Amazon.com.” That’s the kind of talk that most investors would prefer not to hear, of course. “There is this group thinking where everyone is saying, ‘If you aren’t failing, you aren’t trying hard enough,’” Macquarie’s Schachter said in an interview. “Obviously, there is a lot of truth to some of these things, but from an investor point of view, it can be frustrating.” (ap)

Research firm IDC said global tablet sales for the full year rose just 4.4 percent for the year to 229.6 million units, after a jump of more than 50 percent in 2013. After the euphoria around tablets in 2013, the market has slowed because consumers are keeping their devices longer and turning in some cases to large “phablet” smartphones or new
“ultramobile” PCs. The fourth quarter saw the first year-over-year decline in sales since the first iPads were released in 2010, according to IDC. Overall sales dipped 3.2 percent in the key holiday quarter compared to a year earlier to 76.1 million units. SINGARAJA - The concerns on the reduction in revenue faced by residents that manage boat rental due to the presence of the resort development plan on Menjangan Island received complaints from tourism actors doubling as residents of Pejarakan and Sumberklampok village. Allegedly due to their revenue opportunities are oppressed, local residents began to speak up against the resort development plan. Several residents revealed the number of visiting guests that would hire boat services reduced because supposedly they would immediately stay at the resort when it would be established on the island. Automatically it would reduce their income for supporting daily needs considering most people relied on their livelihood by providing transport services for travelers. “This can affect the income of our residents. Moreover, quite a lot of local people are working here as boat driver in the area Labuanlalang and Banyuwedang. Allegedly the headman of Sumberklampok and Pejarakan did not make socialization to their residents before deciding the deal of support to investors. May, predicted as the peak of dengue fever
Northeast US gets its 2nd major workday snowstorm in a week
BANGLI - The peak of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) transmission during this rainy season is estimated to occur in May. Such prediction is based on the previous year where in the fifth month in 2014 the figure of dengue cases was recorded to reach the highest up to 38 cases. Meanwhile, until the end of January 2015, the number of people in Bangli suffering dengue reached 9 cases.

The Head of the Bangli Health Agency, Wayan Sudiana, said on Monday (Feb 2) the nine people suffering dengue fever in January scattered in several regions. Six of them were from Bangbang village, Tembuku subdistrict, two people from Blumbang hamlet, Bangli subdistrict and another from Kayuamba, Susut subdistrict. Those who were contracted by dengue outbreak so far already received treatment at hospital, and some of them had also been declared to recover. Although 9 people were contracted by dengue fever, such amount was still considered normal. “Judging from the chart, there is no prominent case, so that it was not declared as an extraordinary case,” he explained. As previous year, Sudiana predicted the peak of dengue transmission cycle this year would take place in May. He estimated the case to decline in June-July. “Usually in the rainy season or the transitional period, the number of cases will increase,” he added. To anticipate the outbreak of dengue in Bangli, his party at the Health Agency claimed to have conducted various preventive efforts, including the implementation of fogging at dengue affected region, eradication of mosquito nest and the provision of abate powder. For these programs, this year Bangli allocated a budget worth IDR 104 million, an increase of IDR 40 million from the budget last year. Meanwhile, based on the data owned by the Bangli Health Agency in 2014, the dengue fever in Bangli reached 255 cases, with details that in January there were 17 cases, February (23 cases), March (32 cases) and April (24 cases). Furthermore, in May it rose to 38 cases, June (34 cases), July (14 cases), August (18 cases), September (10 cases), October (19 cases), November (13 cases) and December (13 cases). (ina)

Attorney General H.M. Prasetyo did not say when or where Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, the leaders of the so-called “Bali Nine” drug-smuggling gang, would be put to death by firing squad, only that “they will be included” in the next batch. drug traffickers including five foreigners, triggering a diplomatic storm as Brazil and the Netherlands -- whose citizens were among those killed -withdrew their ambassadors. JAKARTA - Indonesian divers on Monday found another six victims of the AirAsia plane crash, an official said, taking to 84 the number of bodies retrieved since the accident in late December. Two bodies were found inside the fuselage of the plane, while another four were located near the wreckage on the bottom of the Java Sea. Another body was located on Sunday as the national search and rescue agency resumed operations. Divers had taken a two-day break after searching at sea for weeks in poor weather conditions. The mission is continuing to find the bodies of the remaining 78 people aboard Flight QZ8501, which went down in stormy weather during what was supposed to be a short trip from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore. “Divers will continue to search for more bodies tomorrow,” S.B. Supriyadi, a search and rescue agency official who has been coordinating the operation, told AFP. Hostage killings highlight threat, meager options for Japan

TOKYO — The killing of two Japanese taken hostage by the Islamic State group has violently driven home the high stakes Japan faces and limited options it can muster in such circumstances. It also offers a glimpse into how Japan is struggling to handle the rising menace of terrorism. Until this crisis, Japan had not become directly embroiled in the fight against the militants, who now control about a third of both Syria and neighboring Iraq in a self-declared caliphate. Tokyo’s backing for U.S.-led air strikes against the Islamic State group is confined to financial and humanitarian aid for refugees and other non-military support for countries affected by the conflict. That proved no hindrance for the jihadis, and Japan is re-examining its response to the threat, both abroad and at home, mindful also of Tokyo’s preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games. Government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said Tuesday that the government convened a meeting on counterterrorism to review the situation. “During the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, there will be many visitors from overseas and needless to say, we will implement fullscale measures to prepare,” Suga. Japan’s options for trying to free the hostages were limited. Tokyo lacks a strong diplomatic presence in the region and has a very small corps of Arab experts — only about 30 people in this case, the foreign minister, Fumio Kishida, told parliament. It is unclear whether paying ransom would have been an option. Moreover, the military is confined by the constitution, drafted by U.S. occupying forces after World War II, to a strictly self-defense role and would be unable to stage a rescue attempt. JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday called for scrapping a U.N. commission tasked with investigating potential war crimes committed last summer in Gaza after reports emerged that its chief resigned amid accusations he was biased against Israel. Netanyahu said the commission, set up by the Geneva-based U.N. Human Rights Council, was an “anti-Israeli body” that has proved it has nothing to do with human rights. of Israel and previously offered consultancy services to the Palestinians Liberation Organization. Jenson Button insists there is no alarm at McLaren’s troubled start to Formula 1 testing with Honda, claiming it made a late breakthrough with its reliability dramas on Monday. The Briton and his team-mate Fernando Alonso have managed to complete just six laps each over the first two days of Jerez running thanks to problems with the new Honda F1 engine. Sensor issues on the first day for Alonso were followed by an unspecified glitch with a power unit component when Button took over for Monday. But McLaren was encouraged that Button was able to complete a trouble free lap just before the session finished - lifting hopes of a better day on Tuesday. “It’s not been the easiest start to the season, but as we know it’s a very complicated power unit,” Button said. “We will get our heads around it and, in terms of the problems today, we did our last run in the wet to understand the issue and we’re hoping for a lot more productive

Jenson Button insists there is no alarm at McLaren’s troubled start to Formula 1 testing with Honda, claiming it made a late breakthrough with its reliability dramas on Monday. The Briton and his team-mate Fernando Alonso have managed to complete just six laps each over the first two days of Jerez running thanks to problems with the new Honda F1 engine. Sensor issues on the first day for Alonso were followed by an unspecified glitch with a power unit component when Button took over for Monday. But McLaren was encouraged that Button was able to complete a trouble free lap just before the session finished - lifting hopes of a better day on Tuesday. “It’s not been the easiest start to the season, but as we know it’s a very complicated power unit,” Button said. “We will get our heads around it and, in terms of the problems today, we did our last run in the wet to understand the issue and we’re hoping for a lot more productive

Hostage killings highlight threat, meager options for Japan
Israeli prime minister calls for scrapping UN Gaza war probe
TOKYO — The killing of two Japanese taken hostage by the Islamic State group has violently driven home the high stakes Japan faces and limited options it can muster in such circumstances. It also offers a glimpse into how Japan is struggling to handle the rising menace of terrorism. Until this crisis, Japan had not become directly embroiled in the fight against the militants, who now control about a third of both Syria and neighboring Iraq in a self-declared caliphate. Tokyo’s backing for U.S.-led air strikes against the Islamic State group is confined to financial and humanitarian aid for refugees and other non-military support for countries affected by the conflict. That proved no hindrance for the jihadis, and Japan is re-examining its response to the threat, both abroad and at home, mindful also of Tokyo’s preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games. Government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said Tuesday that the government convened a meeting on counterterrorism to review the situation. “During the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, there will be many visitors from overseas and needless to say, we will implement fullscale measures to prepare,” Suga. Japan’s options for trying to free the hostages were limited. Tokyo lacks a strong diplomatic presence in the region and has a very small corps of Arab experts — only about 30 people in this case, the foreign minister, Fumio Kishida, told parliament. It is unclear whether paying ransom would have been an option. Moreover, the military is confined by the constitution, drafted by U.S. occupying forces after World War II, to a strictly self-defense role and would be unable to stage a rescue attempt. A video over the weekend showing the beheading of journalist Kenji Goto, purportedly from the Islamic State militants, carried chilling threats to single out Japanese anywhere as targets. Addressing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a man resembling a militant seen in other beheading videos by the Islamic State group says, “because of your reckless decision to take part in an unwinnable war, this knife will not only slaughter Kenji, but will also carry on and cause carnage wherever your people are found. So let the nightmare for Japan begin.” Abe has made security a top priority of his administration. He ordered greater vigilance at airports and at Japanese facilities overseas, such as embassies and schools. The government already was considering sending troops for overseas rescues. (ap)

It came as a surprise to many economists, who expected the bank to hold off on lowering the rate until later in the year. JAKARTA - Two Australians on death row in Bali will be among the next group of prisoners to be executed in Indonesia, an official said Monday, as Jakarta takes an increasingly hard line against drug traffickers. Attorney General H.M. Prasetyo did not say when or where Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, the leaders of the so-called “Bali Nine” drug-smuggling gang, would be put to death by firing squad, only that “they will be included” in the next batch. Indonesia last month executed six
drug traffickers including five foreigners, triggering a diplomatic storm as Brazil and the Netherlands -- whose citizens were among those killed -withdrew their ambassadors. Indonesian President Joko Widodo has been a vocal supporter of capital punishment, and had already rejected clemency appeals from Sukumaran and Chan. The pair were arrested in Bali in 2005 and sentenced to death the following year for attempting to smuggle eight kilograms (18 pounds)

JAKARTA - Indonesian divers on Monday found another six victims of the AirAsia plane crash, an official said, taking to 84 the number of bodies retrieved since the accident in late December. Two bodies were found inside the fuselage of the plane, while another four were located near the wreckage on the bottom of the Java Sea. Another body was located on Sunday as the national search and rescue agency resumed operations. Divers had taken a two-day break after searching at sea for weeks in poor weather conditions. The mission is continuing to find the bodies of the remaining 78 people aboard Flight QZ8501, which went down in stormy weather during what was supposed to be a short trip from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore. “Divers will continue to search for more bodies tomorrow,” S.B. Supriyadi, a search and rescue agency official who has been coordinating the operation, told AFP. BANGLI - The peak of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) transmission during this rainy season is estimated to occur in May. Such prediction is based on the previous year where in the fifth month in 2014 the figure of dengue cases was recorded to reach the highest up to 38 cases. Meanwhile, until the end of January 2015, the number of people in Bangli suffering dengue reached 9 cases.

The Head of the Bangli Health Agency, Wayan Sudiana, said on Monday (Feb 2) the nine people suffering dengue fever in January scattered in several regions. Six of them were from Bangbang village, Tembuku subdistrict, two people from Blumbang hamlet, Bangli subdistrict and another from Kayuamba, Susut subdistrict. Those who were contracted by dengue outbreak so far already received treatment at hospital, and some of them had also been declared to recover. Although 9 people were contracted by dengue fever, such amount was still considered normal. “Judging from the chart, there is no prominent case, so that it was not declared as an extraordinary case,” he explained. As previous year, Sudiana predicted the peak of dengue transmission cycle this year would take place in May. He estimated the case to decline in June-July. “Usually in the rainy season or the transitional period, the number of cases will increase,” he added. Tech firms hint at more restraint
SAN FRANCISCO — Technology’s big-spending trio of Google, Facebook, and Amazon. com appear to be tightening their belts — at least a notch — in a concession to cost-conscious investors and a strong dollar that’s taking a big bite out of their revenue. Hints of restraint were sprinkled throughout the companies’ latest quarterly reports released last week. Expenses at all three are still expected to rise faster than revenue this year, but Google Inc., Facebook Inc. and Amazon. com Inc. signaled that spending increases might not be as dramatic as expected. The message boosted all of their stocks, which had been in Wall Street’s penalty box for the companies’ free-spending ways. The shift can be traced to economic turmoil in Europe and Asia that has caused the dollar’s value to rise against many other currencies, said BGC Financial analyst Colin Gillis. Revenue coming in from overseas will translate into fewer dollars — potentially chopping about 4 percent off of 2015 revenue compared with 2014, Gillis estimates. “That’s a significant hit,” said Gillis. “They all have massive opportunities ahead that they want to pursue, but they are also going out of their way to sound more prudent.” Amazon’s moderation was the most obvious: the e-commerce company’s fourth-quarter operating expenses rose at a slower pace than analysts had anticipated. That delighted investors who have become increasingly frustrated with recurring losses driven by CEO Jeff Bezos’ prolific spending on data centers, distribution centers, gadgets and drones. Amazon shares, which had hit a 52-week low after the company’s prior earnings report in October, spiked nearly 14 percent on the fourth-quarter results. “It looks like Amazon does actually care about its stock and profits,” Macquarie Securities analyst Ben Schachter wrote in a research note. Amazon earned
$214 million in the fourth quarter. The change was more about tone than the actual numbers released by Facebook and Google, since spending at both companies still accelerated in the fourth quarter. Investors initially seemed spooked but settled down after reassuring remarks from Facebook and Google executives. Since their last quarterly earnings reports in October, Google’s shares had fallen 4 percent and Facebook’s shares slipped 6 percent. But the day after announcing earnings last week, Google shares rose nearly 5 percent and Facebook climbed 2 percent. Google Chief Financial Officer Patrick Pichette stressed that the search giant’s expenses included $300 million in one-time accounting items and emphasized the company’s commitment to finding “a healthy balance between growth and discipline.” That balancing act prompted the company to recently suspend consumer sales of Google Glass, its Internetconnected eyewear, in an effort to design a version more likely to appeal to customers. Without providing specifics, Pichette promised Google will cancel other projects that “don’t have the impact we had hoped for.” Meanwhile, Facebook revised its 2015 budget. The social networking leader’s costs may increase by as much as 70 percent this year, down from a previous ceiling of 75 percent, according to Chief Financial Officer David Wehner. Google, Facebook and Amazon all spend heavily in effort to maintain the competitive advantages they built on desktop and laptop computers as tech usage now tilts toward smartphones and tablets.
The companies also splurge on expensive experiments that may never pay off but that they view as valuable research. Google plows money into a wide range of projects such as driverless cars, life-like robots, intelligent appliances, Internetbeaming balloons and satellites and even a quest to discover the Fountain of Youth. Facebook has been expanding into virtual reality and mobile messaging. Amazon.com is developing a fleet of drones to deliver packages to customers, creating its own original television shows, while also dabbling in a variety of gadgets such as the FireStick and Fire phone aimed at making it easier for people to buy goods from its website. Executives from all three companies acknowledge some of these projects are bound to fail, but some will be so successful that they will more than offset losses stemming from the flops. “Bold bets...pay for a lot of failures,” Bezos said during a technology conference in December. “I’ve made billions of dollars of failures at Amazon.com.” That’s the kind of talk that most investors would prefer not to hear, of course. “There is this group thinking where everyone is saying, ‘If you aren’t failing, you aren’t trying hard enough,’” Macquarie’s Schachter said in an interview. “Obviously, there is a lot of truth to some of these things, but from an investor point of view, it can be frustrating.” (ap)

SINGARAJA - The concerns on the reduction in revenue faced by residents that manage boat rental due to the presence of the resort development plan on Menjangan Island received complaints from tourism actors doubling as residents of Pejarakan and Sumberklampok village. Allegedly due to their revenue opportunities are oppressed, local residents began to speak up against the resort development plan. Several residents revealed the number of visiting guests that would hire boat services reduced because supposedly they would immediately stay at the resort when it would be established on the island. Automatically it would reduce their income for supporting daily needs considering most people relied on their livelihood by providing transport services for travelers. “This can affect the income of our residents. Moreover, quite a lot of local people are working here as boat driver in the area Labuanlalang and Banyuwedang. Frankly speaking, we are confused about what to do later,” said Deputy Chief of Pejarakan Tourism Awareness Community (Pokmasta), Ketut Danu. Allegedly the headman of Sumberklampok and Pejarakan did not make socialization to their residents before deciding the deal of support to investors. Even what they obtain is only misery either in the form of material having been drained or the loss of life. The chef known to be firm and disciplined is happy to share his tips and delicious healthy breakfast. According to Mudiana, a healthy breakfast menu was not necessarily expensive. Definitely, it was preservative-free and tastily consumed. “A breakfast does not have to use rice, meat, vegetables or imported and expensive fruits every morning. Rather, it can be replaced with two simple menus namely boiled bananas and tubers,” he explained. Boiled bananas, said Mudiana, could be used as a substitute for rice breakfast menu that was useful for satisfying the hunger. “This food does not contain any cholesterol. Besides, these foods contain high enough fiber so they are useful to facilitate the digestive tract. The
preparation is also too easy, namely by boiling the bananas in water containing salt to taste. Boiled bananas can also be mixed with sugar or grated cheese,” said the chef having a hobby to play badminton. Mudiana suggested that, other than boiled bananas, the typical tubers of Indonesia were also tasty to serve for breakfast menu. They were cassava, potato, taro and yam. Among the tubers like white yam, red yam, purple yam and honey yam, sweet yam had the most complete nutrients. “Sweet yam is rich in vitamins and beta carotene. It also contains minerals that are very good in helping the water balance in the body,” he explained.
Mudiana added that other than being simple, the food was also easy to prepare such as by boiling or frying. “It is one of the substitute foods that can be served as a delicious breakfast menu. Moreover, if served with warm tea or milk, it will be able to provide energy for the physical activities during the day,” he added. (ocha)

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

In papers filed in December in San Francisco Superior Court, Williams’ wife, Susan, says some of the late actor’s personal items were taken without her permission and asks the court to exclude the contents of the Tiburon home that she shared with Williams from the jewelry, memorabilia and other items Williams said the children should have. NEW YORK — Bobbi Kristina Brown is fighting for her life, according to a statement from the Houston family Monday. Police said the 21-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown was taken to a hospital Saturday after she was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in a suburban Atlanta townhome. The statement said that Brown is surrounded by immediate family and that the family was requesting privacy. No more details were provided. “We are asking you to honor our request for privacy during this difficult time,” the statement read. “Thank you for your prayers, well wishes, and we greatly appreciate your continued support. “ Whitney Houston was found dead in a hotel bathtub in 2012. “Most of the tourists landed in Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, by direct flights from their countries. Only 34,903 tourists came by cruisers,” Head of the Bali Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Panusunan Siregar said on Monday. The number surpassed the target set by Bali at 2,9 million foreign tourists in 2014. Of the ten top tourist sources, nine showed significant increase,
and only Taiwan recorded a drop from 127,443 people in 2013 to 114,504 in 2014. Australia sent 991,923 tourists to Bali last year, up 20.03 percent from 826,385 in 2013. He said the Australian tourists constituted 26.33 percent of the total foreign tourists visiting the Island of Gods, followed by China 586,300 tourists, or an increase of 51.29 percent from 387,533 people in 2013.
In the third place is Malaysia with 225,572 tourists last year, or up by 13.23 percent from 199,223 in the previous year; followed by Japan 217,402 tourists, a hike of 4.46 percent from 208,115 people; Singapore 179,719 tourists; South Korea 146,088; France 128,350; Britain 127,040; Taiwan 114,504; and the USA 111,640 tourists last year. In the meantime, 9.44 million foreign tourists visited Indonesia in

The rise at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, was 15.11 percent, followed by Minangkabau International Airport in West Sumatra at 13.73 percent. “The lowest surge was at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, at just 0.26 percent,” Suryamin stated.
