‘Burnt,’ ‘Crisis,’ add to a pileup of flops at box office

Handling abrasion, Bali needs a marine spatial planning

ABRASION is affected more and more of Bali’s beaches and more and more related issues are emerging. Clearly the government is still impotent in dealing the problem of abrasion given that it is worsening because of human activity rather than because of natural factors. “Ideally the impact of abrasion should be minimized by a marine spacial plan for Bali which has became mandated by law. A marine spatial planning could set limits on the activities that can and cannot be take place on the coast, including the determination of conservation areas and other areas in the context of marine spatial planning,” said Manager of the Conservation International for Bali Region, I Made Iwan Dewantama. Dewantama asserted that it is extremely urgent that Bali immediately create a marine spatial plan that includes issues related to licenses for coastal area utilization. Due to the absence of a marine spatial plan, licensing for boat traffic and marine tourism is negatively impacting on coastal abrasion. “By all means, when we talk specifically about abrasion in Bali, we can say that it is mostly due to the reclamation on Serangan Island. Obviously the impact has been strongly felt. Reclamation activities and he creation of pierss and coastal breakwater needs to be clearly delineated in a marine spatial plan,” he added. The drafting of a marine spatial plan certainly needs to be based on an academic study, so that the experts determine how revetments or breakwaters should be made so as to avoid causing more severe abrasion elsewhere. Similarly, construction activities in coastal areas and depositions into estuaries also need to be included in such a government plan. “Precipitation in estuaries also has an impact on the ecosystem. So far, we are not seeing very good management of water. Everywhere from watersheds to estuaries are filled with human waste and garbage and we are seeing lots of sedimentation. Dewantama explained that coastal areas are very sensitive areas as they mark the boundary between land and sea. That is why the coastal areas need to be organized based on proper studies. However, what has been happening is just the opposite, so the government is forced to spend large amounts of money building revetments to offset the damage. On the one hand, revetments can indeed reduce abrasion. However, the energy of the sea is then shifted to another place where abrasion then eats away at another beach. “Do we have to build revetments to protect all the beaches of Bali? Already, existing revetments have reaped many complaints from fishermen, who can no longer moor their boats as they are blocked by these revetments,” said this water conservation observer. Geomorphologist from Udayana University, R. Suyarto, assesses that levee construction is often an inappropriate way to stop abrasion. Not surprisingly, many coastal levees collapse because they are not strong enough to hold back the ocean’s powerful waves. Not to mention, the fact that many embankments are only partial revetments. As Suryarto pointed out, the concept of the “power of walls against wave force” would do better if it was modified to follow natural patterns. For example, restoring the flow of sand or even increasing the amount of sand on coastal areas would be a better way of protecting the coasts. “Rather than using concrete, we would have better results by following nature’s patterns. Reclamation is also good as long it follows local natural patterns. If instead patterns that only serve the individual interests are used, they are sure to be destroyed by the forces of nature,” he said. However, increasing the amount of sand also requires serious research and certainly beach front development projects need to look and how prevent abrasion in one area will affect other areas. “Mertasari Beach, with its wide breach, clearly shows us that sand that has been heaped on to Sanur continuously for the last few years, has naturally been flowing away form Sanur, onto Mertasari beach,” said Suyarto. A number of other beaches actually have their own natural buffers. For example, beaches west of Denpasar have natural sand and gravel buffers that protect them from abrasion. Another natural way to protect beaches is by restoring coastal vegetation such as tropical almonds, pandanus, coconut, cactus and mangroves according to the particular location. If ‘pioneer’ plants are planted they other plants natural flourish too. These ‘follower’ plants grow by themselves and have shown to be effective in withstanding the brunt of ocean waves, if they are not trimmed down for aesthetic reasons. “Most importantly, the definition of beach must also be decisive in terms of determining the distance of coastal borderlines depending on the type of beach in question. Mud, sand, cliff and rock beaches all need to have their respective distance defined,” he concluded. (kmb32)

TABANAN has approximately 36 km of coastline all of which face varying degrees of abrasion. Around 13 km are suffering severe abrasion and require protection. The provincial government has disbursed funds worth IDR 4.4 billion to build a breakwater at Yeh Gangga Beach along 1 km of this beach that is suffering from abrasion. The breakwater is expected to protect Yeh Ganga Beach from the dangers of abrasion and the construction project has been running since April 28. Head of the Tabanan Public Works Agency, I Gusti Ngurah Anom Anthara, explained 13 of the 36 km of beach in Tabanan are in critical condition. Anom said that although Tabanan has received some assistance from the provincial government for building a revetment, it is not enough to deal with the whole problem. “Of the 13 km of coast line that are suffering severe abrasion, only about 5 kilometers have been protected with revetments,” he said. For Yeh Gangga Beach, a five meter high revetment is

being installed. Initially, the revetment was to be built quite close to shore, but because local fishermen use this area to moor their boat and others use the area for melasti processions and for releasing turtle hatchlings, the revetment was finally placed further out to sea. “The revetment will not interfere with fishing activities nor religious ceremonies,” said Anom. He added that the abrasion in Tabanan is eating up about half a meter of beach per year. In some areas, like at Yeh Gangga abrasion is happening at a rate of 1 to 1.5 meters a year due to damaged coral reef and global warming. Anom denied that abrasion on the beaches of Tabanan was happening due to

sand dredging. “In Tabanan we prohibit sand beach dredging,” he said. Kedungu Beach will also receive the assistance of the province for the construction of a revetment. Selabih Beach in West Selemadeg on the border of Jembrana County has a 3 kilometre long revetment that protects it from further abrasion. Nevertheless, when the tide is high, waves flow over parts of it. Due to ferocity of the waves, the compound walls of Selabih customary village’s pure Dalem has cracks. Village secretary for Selabih, Dewa Nyoman Suarta, explained that if the land near the beach was not protected but he revetment, that it would already be long gone. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

PARIS - Any plausible game plan for capping the rise of Earth’s surface temperature depends on replacing fossil fuels with energy sources that generate little or no carbon pollution. That means renewables, especially solar and wind, both of which face fewer constraints to growth than more established clean energy: a river can be dammed only so many times, and nuclear remains expensive and controversial. But humanity has dithered for so long in the fight against global warming, experts say, that the window of opportunity for decarbonising the global economy fast enough to avoid devastating climate change is barely ajar. “The cost and difficulty of mitigating greenhouse gases increases every year, time is of the essence,” Maria van der Hoeven, executive director of the International Energy Agency, said in a special IEA report on energy and climate change released earlier this year. The world’s nations -– gathering in Paris in a month to ink the first-ever universal climate pact -- have set a target of limiting global warming to two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels. Cross that red line, scientists say, and there will, almost literally, be hell to pay. Science also tells us that, if we are to respect the 2 C limit, future greenhouse gas emissions cannot exceed a total “budget” of about 1,000 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide. Carbon-cutting pledges from nearly 150 nations, unveiled on Friday, put us on track for a 3 C world. This is a vast improvement on doing nothing. But even this unprecedented effort would use up three quarters of that carbon budget by 2030, leaving very little margin for closing the remaining gap. That’s where the transition from fossil fuels to renewables comes in. “The economics have been shifting on both sides of the equation,” said Alden Meyer, a veteran climate specialist with the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington. “The least-cost global strategy is to rapidly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and switch into the clean-energy economy.” Energy production accounts for two-thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions, and thus transformation of this sector is crucial, he and other experts said. “Decarbonising energy is probably the quickest way to decarbonise the world,” Adnan Amin, director general of the International Renewable Energies Agency, told AFP. The question, however, is whether solar, wind and other clean energy options can scale up quickly enough. According the UN climate science body, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), low-carbon energy must account for at least 80 percent of global electricity production by 2050 to have a better-than-even chance of staying under the 2 C threshold. The good news is that renewables are expanding rapidly and attracting investment. Nearly half of all new installed power generation capacity in 2014 was in renewables -- 37 percent wind, a third solar and a quarter hydro, according to the IEA. Investment in the sector totalled more than a quarter of a trillion dollars in the same year, an 8.5 percent increase over 2013. “Capital markets have already begun to shift away from dirty technology to clean technology,” Christina Figueres, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, told journalists Friday in releasing an analysis of national emissions-reduction pledges. Confounding predictions only a decade ago, the cost of solar and wind energy has plummeted. “Generating electricity from renewables is cost competitive on the grid or beating most conventional sources” is some areas, said Amin. Balinese empowered to prevent HIV/AIDS

DENPASAR - The Bali chapter of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and Hong Kong Red Cross seek to empower Bali’s communities to actively prevent HIV/AIDS in the region, noted local PMI spokesman Dr I Gede Wiryana Patrajaya. “The officers of PMI and the Hong Kong Red Cross are aiming to empower the people of Bali through training in the handling and prevention of HIV/AIDS,” Patrajaya remarked in Denpasar on Monday. He noted that besides educating the Balinese people on ways to prevent HIV/AIDS, the Red Cross officers also encouraged them to

make changes in their lifestyle by staying away from drugs and risky sexual practices involving multiple partners. According to Patrajaya, the training program on the prevention of HIV/AIDS conducted along with the Hong Kong Red Cross is expected to continue, so as to thwart the spread of the deadly disease to others.

“Together, let us participate and support the continuation of this program to prevent the spread of the scary disease of HIV/AIDS in the island of paradise,” Patrajaya noted. The spokesman further expressed hope that all public elements in Bali would play an active role in supporting the PMI and Hong Kong Red Cross program to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. At a national gas stakeholders’ seminar held in Kuta, Bali, on Monday, Director General of Oil and Gas of KESDM Wiratmadja Puja stated that Indonesia’s huge gas potential must be able to fulfill its electricity needs.

“Around 14 percent of Indonesian people have no access to electricity. The about 40 million figure is small as compared to the country’s population reaching 250 million. Based on his opinion, if the government could focus on natural gas as a resource to generate electricity, it would support the realization of the 35 thousand megawatts (MW)

As part of the project to set up power plants with a total capacity of 35 thousand MW by 2019, 20 thousand MW will be generated using coal, 13 thousand MW using gas, and 3.7 thousand MW using renewable resources. “The target is to use one thousand MMSCFD, or generate 13 thousand MW using gas as fuel. That is the allocation for the industry and also

On Sunday (Nov. 1), Bangli Police officers supplied clean water to residents of Langkan hamlet, Landih by using a high velocity water cannon commonly used for riot control. Chief of the Bangli Police, Benny K. Danang, accompanied by the Chief of Alert Unit Nyoman Sudiasa when met on Sunday afternoon said that this was the first time this dry season, that the Banlgi police had supplied much needed water to people. “Why is it made at Langkan hamlet?” he asked rhetorically, “Because this hamlet is one

ST PETERSBURG - The first bodies from a plane crash in Egypt in which all 224 passengers, most of them Russians, died over the weekend arrived in St Petersburg early on Monday morning aboard a Russian government plane. The crashed Airbus A321 plane, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia, was carrying holidaymakers from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg when it crashed in the Sinai Peninsula on Saturday morning. Russian officials have said the plane likely broke up in mid-air but have stressed that it is too early to draw conclusions from this. President Vladimir Putin declared Sunday a national day of mourning. Russian news agencies reported that a first Il-76 Emergency Situations Ministry plane flew into St Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport a little before 6 a.m. local time, carrying 144 bodies. The ministry said the next plane carrying bodies would leave Cairo on Monday evening for St Petersburg. On arrival, the first bodies were loaded onto stretchers and carried into a large white lorry waiting on the runway at Pulkovo Airport. WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidates have agreed on a series of demands giving them greater control of debates, as the party’s frustrated 2016 class works to inject changes into the nominating process. They are attempting to wrestle command from the Republican National Committee and media hosts. Representatives from more than a dozen campaigns met behind closed doors for nearly two hours Sunday night in suburban Washington, a meeting that was not expected to yield many results given the competing interests of several candidates. Yet they emerged having agreed to several changes to be outlined in a letter to debate hosts in the coming days. They include largely bypassing the RNC in coordinating with network hosts, mandatory opening and closing statements, an equal number of questions for the candidates, and pre-approval of on-screen graphics, according to candidate Ben Carson’s campaign manager Barry Bennett, who hosted the meeting. “The amazing part for me was how friendly the meeting was,” Bennett said. “Everybody was cordial. We all agreed we need to have these meetings more regularly.” The most recent Republican presidential debate, moderated by cable TV channel CNBC in Boulder, Colorado, on Wednesday night, drew harsh criticism from campaigns and Republican Party officials alike. Afterward, some candidates complained that the questions were not substantive enough; others wanted more air time or the chance to deliver opening and closing statements. Growth of 6.5 percent expected through 2020

BEIJING — China’s government expects to achieve annual economic growth of “at least 6.5 percent” through 2020, the top economic official said, in the first hint of a growth target since a high-level planning meeting last week. The ruling Communist Party is trying to steer the economy to more sustainable growth based on domestic consumption instead of trade and investment but needs to avoid it weakening too much. Growth last year fell to a two-decade low of 7.4 percent. “We propose to achieve the goal of creating a ‘moderately prosperous society’ by 2020, which requires annual economic growth of at least 6.5 percent over the next five years,” said Premier Li Keqiang in a speech Sunday in Seoul, according to a transcript released by the Cabinet. Following a meeting to approve a five-year development plan, party leaders pledged last week to double the size of the economy from the 2010 level by 2020. That would require annual growth of at least 6.5 percent, which could conflict with reform efforts. This year’s growth target is “about 7 percent,” though Li and other officials have tried to downplay the significance of that. Li said earlier he would accept slower growth so long as the economy generates enough new jobs. Economic growth in the quarter ending in September slowed to 6.9 percent but some analysts say industrial activity might be rebounding. Much of China’s economic slowdown over the past five years has been self-imposed but a deepening downturn over the past year has prompted concern about job losses and unrest. Beijing has cut interest rates six times since last November. As a result, the brown rice of Wangaya has generated 17 new varieties which are the same as their parent in terms of color and aroma. However, due to prolonged dry season this year, the planting test of the 17 new varieties faces obstacle where the subak area chosen to plant the new variety is not yet ready due to lack of water. It was presented by the Head of the Tabanan Food Crops Agency, Nyoman Budana, Thursday (Oct. 15). According to him, the planting test of the 17 new varieties of Wangaya brown rice will be conducted in November 2015. However, the location will be moved to Bongan Seedling Agency. Each variety is going to be planted on two square meters of land. Through this pilot project, it will be observed which varieties have the same advantages as their parent. Budana added that although the quality of color and aroma of the new varieties of rice grains is the same as its parent, these new varieties have their own advantages such as having shorter life cycle than its parent so that farmers can harvest more quickly. With a shorter life cycle, of course, farmers can grow more frequently. As for white rice, the Tabanan Agriculture Agency also conducted a development trial in the BATAN. But until today the results of the trials are still in progress. According to Budana, farmers in Tabanan itself prefer to select seeds of Ciherang, Inpari, Singkil and Cigeulis variety. One of the organic farmers of Jatiluwih, Wayan Semara Jaya, exposed that farmers at Jatiluwih all this time always cultivate the varieties of brown rice because they are excellent compared to rice from outside. Moreover, in terms of production process, farmers do not experience much difficulty, where planting

process is very easy and these local rice varieties like the brown rice applies fertilizer derived from nature. No doubt, this kind of rice is very resistant against diseases. Wayan Semara Jaya nicknamed Nang Krisna said that the process of brown rice planting has taken place through generations every December and January. Then, harvest time is made in June. “This has become our tradition through generations and each December and January it is mandatory to plant local brown rice,” he said. Why should it be made in December and January? So far, he does not know for sure because it has become a tradition for generations. One day, this local brown rice planting was carried beyond December and January, but the result was not good. “For this rice variety, we do not use pesticides. But fertilizer is still needed to boost the plant growth. Our irrigation water just depends on season. Indeed in the current dry season it is a bit difficult,” he explained. When asked about the organic land, Nang Krishna said that so far it cannot be realized one hundred percent. It happens because eliminating chemical elements contained in the land since the previous planting process requires a long time. For instance, in one hectare of land we can only use organic element as much as 25 kg. “We have started to reduce the use of chemicals and it takes a long process for the organic farming so that it can become pure, at least it takes three years for land recovery,” he said. ago, when he came to the village, the community immediately conveyed this issue. “Residents have also reported the issue of water shortages,” he said. He added that to address water crisis, the community already proposed water lifting of Lake Batur. However, he confirmed if the water of the lake is lifted, it should be taken advantage by more than one village. Besides, the technology must support and community must be ready to manage. “Central government will not be willing to pay for the water crisis handling only for one village, but must be more. In addition, people must be ready to manage,” he said. He said that before proposing it to central government, his agency must make an assessment. Having completed, it will be coordinated with village authorities.

“We’ve established an assessment team. After getting the results, we will directly convey it to the village. If everything is agreed, well… we will directly propose it to central government,” he said and mentioned that the lifting cost is estimated to approximately reach IDR 10 billion. A resident of Abang Songan village, Made Bawa, said that when dry season arrives he is forced to purchase water for IDR 220,000 per truck and can only be used to meet the needs for two weeks. “From the beginning of dry season, I have to purchase six trucks of water. Well, I must spend a hefty cost,” he complained. He also added that around in 1995, the government made an effort to channel water to his village from Catur village, Kintamani. At that time, some faucets were already installed at roadside at local

village. Unfortunately, the water never flows. “Previously pipes were already installed. I heard the reservoir at Catur was damaged so that the water could not flow here,” he said. Other than purchasing, during this dry season, people at Abang Songan also get water supply from the BPBDs Bangli and Bali Province. But it only takes place for a short-term solution. “Indeed there is water supply, but just for short-term. We are still short of water. Hopefully the lifting of water from the lake can be done,” he said. Previously, another resident, Pasek Agung Dibia Atmaja, said that the water crisis is so suffocating society. Japan, South Korea agree to work to resolve WWII sex slave issue

SEOUL — The leaders of South Korea and Japan resumed formal talks Monday after a 3½-year freeze and agreed to try to resolve the decades-old issue of Korean women forced into Japanese military-run brothels during World War II. The agreement is a step forward but not a breakthrough. Ties between the two countries have sagged to one of their lowest ebbs since the late 2012 inauguration of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who takes a more hawkish, nationalistic stance than many of his predecessors. Seoul believes that Abe seeks to obscure Japan’s brutal colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula in 1910-1945. The biggest source of friction is over Japanese responsibility for wartime sex slaves, who were euphemistically called “comfort women.” Historians say tens of thousands of women from around Asia, many of them Korean, were sent to front-line military brothels to provide sex to Japanese soldiers. Japan has apologized many times before, but many South Koreans see the statements and past efforts at private compensation as insufficient. Abe hoped to weaken a 1993 apology but later promised not to do so following protests from South Korea and elsewhere. On Monday, Abe and South Korean President Park Geun-hye agreed to try harder to settle the issue through dialogue, according

to Park’s office. “President Park noted the issue of ‘comfort women’ is the biggest obstacle in efforts to improve bilateral ties. She stressed that the issue must be quickly settled in a way that our people can accept,” said Park’s senior adviser for foreign affairs and national security, Kim Kyou-hyun. Nepal police clear protesters from key crossing into India

KATHMANDU — Nepalese police removed protesters from a key border point Monday to allow more than 200 vehicles stranded for the past 40 days to cross into India, officials said. Police official Hobindra Bogati said five protesters were detained when police removed them and the tents they had pitched in the no man’s land between the two countries. He said that 205 trucks and other vehicles had crossed from Birgunj, Nepal, to Raxaul, India, and that more were lining up. However, trucks bringing fuel and other goods to Nepal were still blocked by Indian customs officials. Members of the ethnic Madhesi people have been protesting Nepal’s new constitution, saying it divides the Madhesis among a number of states. The Madhesis, who want the creation of a larger state that they would dominate, have imposed a general strike in southern Nepal

and blocked the border crossing, resulting in a severe fuel shortage across Nepal. At least 45 people have been killed in the protests since August. There is no official count of the injured. Police raided the protesters’ camp before dawn when they were still sleeping, removed the tents and lined up the trucks to leave Nepal. By morning, there were small groups of protesters in the town of Birgunj, but no reports of any violence. Bogati said police were on alert and would stop any attempt to block the trucks. On Sunday, talks between the government and Madhesi representatives made some progress. Following the one-day talks, Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa said the government would address the Madhesis’ demand for a larger state through discussions with other political parties. (ap)

JAKARTA - A rare, US-born Sumatran rhino arrived Monday at his new home in Indonesia, an official said, where it’s hoped he will find a mate and give his critically-endangered species a shot at survival. Harapan, an eight-year-old male whose name means “hope”, arrived at a specialist rhino sanctuary on Sumatra island at dawn after a long journey from a zoo in Cincinnati. A senior biodiversity conservation official in Indonesia’s forestry ministry told AFP the rhino was “adapting well” after travelling 36 hours by air, sea and land to reach to the national park. “He is healthy and has a great appetite,” Bambang Dahono Adji told AFP. “We noticed this morning he was lapping up all the leaves. Being Sumatran, perhaps he preferred local fare, like rice instead of cheese,” he joked. Sumatran rhinos are among the rarest in the world, with just 100 believed to still exist. Harapan was the last remaining rhino of his kind in the US, but

without a mate there it was decided he should return to Sumatra to have a chance at producing offspring. His older brother, Andalas, also moved from a zoo in Los Angeles to the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary in Way Kambas National Park in 2007. Since then, he’s fathered a calf at the park, with a second infant expected in May. Harapan will be quarantined for just over two weeks before entering the sanctuary, Adji said, where it’s hoped he will follow in his older brother’s footsteps and mate with one of three female rhinos there. “Like his brother, we hope he will be able to breed and boost the Sumatran rhino population here,” Adji said. Sumatran rhinos are the only Asian rhinoceroses with two horns. They are covered in woolly hair that ranges from reddish brown to black in colour. While Javan rhinos are considered the world’s rarest rhinos, Sumatran rhinos are under increasing threat by poachers and continue to lose precious forest habitat. (afp)

Of the six hotspots, four were found in Solok district and two in Dharmasraya, Budi Satria, the head of the meteorology office, stated here, Monday. The NOAA-18 satellite detected a total of 100 hotspots across Sumatra Island, of which 71 were in South Sumatra, 14 in Bangka Belitung Islands, 10 in Jambi, three in Lampung, and one each in Riau and Bengkulu. However, the Terra and Aqua satellites detected only seven hotspots across Sumatra Island, comprising three in South Sumatra, three in Jambi, and one in Dharmasraya, West Sumatra, on Monday at 6 a.m. local time. Several cities of Sumatra have received rains over the last two days, thereby improving the air quality in

several Sumatran provinces. In the meantime, the number of hotspots in Indonesia has decreased significantly over the last few days. “The number of hotspots has decreased significantly,” Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), stated in Jakarta on Saturday. According to Nugroho, the Terra and Aqua satellites detected 402 hotspots in the country on Saturday (October 31). “The number of hotspots has dropped to 402 from 2,218 recorded last Saturday,” he said. In addition, the rains received in the past couple of days have improved the air quality and visibility in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

“The visibility in Padang, West Sumatra, was four kilometers, while it was seven kilometers in Pekanbaru, 2.8 kilometers in Jambi, 800 meters in Palembang, two kilometers in Pontianak, 1.5 kilometers in Palangkaraya, and six kilometers in Banjarmasin,” he said. Meanwhile, the BNPB has used 284.9 tons of salt (NaCl) to conduct cloud seeding operations in the skies above Sumatra and Kalimantan islands to produce artificial rain as part of the efforts to extinguish forest and land fires in the two regions. “According to a forecast by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the intensity of rainfall had increased between October 26 and October 31 in Sumatra and Kalimantan,” he pointed out. The values of prehistoric and historic remains in the form of Great Temple were stored in the shrine of Ratu Bujangga. Meanwhile, in the east of the temple, exactly on the edge of Pakerisan Temple, lay a relic named Garba Cave believed to guard the temple. It was said the cave was once taken advantage by Chief Minister Kebo Iwa from Bedahulu kingdom. In the south of the temple occurred a stone path and rock stone gates. The road was heading for the Garba Cave. There was a stone containing a trace of footprint whose size exceeded the size of a human foot soles and believed if it belonged to Kebo Iwa. At the making of a ladder, the stones were said to walk by itself pursuant to the will of Kebo Iwa. Uniquely, every time stepping down the stairs, the amount was always different. According to story developing in the area, before Kebo Iwa became a Chief Minister of Bedahulu his competency was tested by the royal officials, including by Ki Pasung Grigis, known to have a supernatural power. The place where to measure the supernatural strength was known as Dharmma Hanyar. Since Kebo Iwa was unbeaten he was finally accepted to fill in the position as Chief Minister of Bedahulu. On that account, the capability of Kebo Iwa was measured in the Dharmma Hanyar, where the place was then called Pengukurukuran.

The fifth-seeded Pole’s previous best at the seasonending championship was reaching the semifinals in 2012 and 2014. “Definitely I didn’t expect it at all,” a tearful Radwanska said. Manchester United’s dry spell in front of goal is nothing to be worried about, according to midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who says it is just a matter of time before manager Louis van Gaal’s men rediscover their scoring touch. United failed to score for the third game in a row when they drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday. The draw came in the wake of them being knocked out of the League Cup by Middlesbrough on penalties on Wednesday with the game ending scoreless after extra time. The 31-year-old striker’s hat trick on Sunday powered Everton to its biggest Premier League win in eight years, routing Sunderland 6-2. “Today was the most complete 90 minutes he has had and it was a phenomenal 90 minutes because it triggers an extension to his contract,” Everton coach Roberto Martinez said. Kone’s first treble in English football was just reward for the players’ perseverance after a serious knee injury affected the first two years of the Ivorian’s career at Everton having followed Martinez from Wigan in 2013. “It has been as difficult as you can get,” Martinez said. “It was a career-threatening injury.
