New York City and Los Angeles were not in the top 20 of rated areas, according to entertainment trade publication Deadline. Trump called Barr on Wednesday to congratulate her on the show’s debut that drew more than 18 million viewers. Barr said on ABC’s “Good

Tommy Wiseau bounces back with new movie ‘Best F(r)iends’
LOS ANGELES - When film producing partners Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero released “The Room” in 2003, the drama was laughed off as a dreadful comedy that several critics called one of the worst films ever made.

But the partners had the last laugh as the film about two friends warring over the same girl turned them into cult icons and inspired last year’s affectionate and critically acclaimed tribute “The Disaster Artist.” Now, the pair is trying to catch lightning in a bottle again with “Best F(r)iends,” a comedy-thriller about a down-and-out drifter, played by Sestero, who befriends Wiseau as a mortician and together decide to make it rich. The movie will open in U.S. theaters on Friday. “We tried to pave new ground and make something with a totally different aesthetic and different
vibe,” Sestero said in an interview at the Hollywood premiere on Wednesday. “So I hope it’s a fun cinematic experience like ‘The Room’ but I also hope it surprises the audience and gives them something they’re not expecting.” Unlike “The Room,” which was directed, written and produced by Wiseau, “Best F(r)iends” was written and produced by Sestero, allowing Wiseau to focus on acting - a topic on which he is particularly sensitive. “People don’t realize I can do acting, number one,” Wiseau said. “Number two, as you know, there
was very negative blogging about Tommy Wiseau, about me, and they don’t understand that I’ve been acting for 20 years, so I feel very good about it.” Actor Paul Scheer, who also appeared in “The Disaster Artist,” said the new movie came from the heart. Wiseau and Sestero, he said, “have all the passion of a Paul Thomas Anderson or a Steven Spielberg. Pope, after Gaza violence, says ‘defenceless’ being killed in Holy Land
VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis, in his Easter address on Sunday, called for peace in the Holy Land two days after 15 Palestinians were killed on the Israeli-Gaza border, saying the conflict there “does not spare the defenceless”. The pope made his appeal in his “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world) message from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica to tens of thousands of people in the flower-bedecked square below where he earlier celebrated a Mass. He also appealed for an end to the “carnage” in Syria, calling for humanitarian aid to be allowed to enter, and for peace in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Francis appeared to refer directly to the Gaza violence last Friday, calling for “reconciliation for the Holy Land, also experiencing in these days the wounds of ongoing conflict that do not spare the defenceless.” Israel’s defence minister has rejected calls for an inquiry into the
killings by the military during a Palestinian demonstration that turned violent at the Gaza-Israel border. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Federica Mogherini, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, and other leaders have called for an independent investigation into the bloodshed. The Pope also begged for peace for “the entire world, beginning with the beloved and long-suffering land of Syria, whose people are worn down by an apparently endless war.”

Night Appreciation for Balinese Entrepreneurs at Aston Grand Ballroom
DENPASAR Transportation Agency has been doing a free school bus trial operation since November 13, 2017. During the trial period, bus operations went well, and no significant obstacles were found. The trial period ended on December 16, 2017 and given its success, the Deputy Minister of Public Service of the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, Diah Natalisa, and the Denpasar Mayor IB Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra officially launched the school bus route on December 28, 2018.
Legislators have expressed their apprecaiation for the school bus service that helpes to reduce traffic congestion and are now urgin provate schools to offer a similar service to their students. Chairman of Commission IV of the Denpasar House of Representatives, I Gede Semara, accompanied by his member Gede Arya Jembawan, recently explained that there are too many junior high school students who go to and from school on motorbike. Not only is this dangerous for both the young students and other road users, but is also adds considerable congestion to traffic on the island. School bus services need to be made available to students, he said adding: “especially for routes where no public transport is available”, said Semara. Students are being asked to use public transport where available and for schools to provide a special fleet of buses for areas where there is no public transport. This, he said will reduce the number of young students riding motorcycles to school. The public has responded positively to the 6 buses that the Denpasar Transport Agency has provided as seen by the growing number of students registering to access this service. Currently the fleet of school buses can carry 446 students per day and 426 students have signed up. Section Head of Land Transportation, Denpasar Transportation Agency, I Dewa Ketut Adi Pradnyana, confirmed on Saturday (Mar. 31) that the free school bus trial that started in November has gone very well. During an information session held by the Denpasar Education Agency for private schools and institutions recently, Regional Secretary of the City of Denpasar, AAN Rai Iswara said that the 6 school buses from the Transportation Agency have successfully curtailed the use of private vehicles by young students. “We would like to thank the private schools for supporting the Municipality of Denpasar’s program for reducing traffic congestion by using school buses”, said Rai Iswara. The school bus program is also part of the City of Denpasar’s smart city education program. STHe school buses are equipped with Si_Bused (School Bus Information System) using smart cards making it easier for parents to detect their children;s presence on the bus. Private schools are being asked to provide school buses for their students so as to reduce after school traffic congestion. “Even if each private school only provides one 25-seat capacity bus, that would mean 25 less vehicles on the street at peak traffic hours. If the private school buses have trouble picking students up and dropping them off right at their homes, they can use the drop zones made available by the Municipality of Denpasar”, explained Iswara. Be creative with smartphone camera
IN this millennial age, photography is no longer a strange activity for most people. Armed with a smartphone, everyone can now take pictures easily. Moreover, the camera seeming to be a ‘must’ facility in the smartphone is now equipped with various leading features whose quality continues to be improved. Moreover, the growing proliferation of photo editing apps makes photographing activities with smartphones become more exciting. However, it must be remembered. Even though every smartphone owner can take pictures, it does not necessarily mean they can instantly create unique and interesting photographs that can draw the attention when the photos are uploaded onto social media such as Instagram, Facebook and so forth. Anyway, the creativity and mastery of basic photography techniques remains mandatory in order to produce photographic works worthy to get appreciation. In other words, it is not enough for you to understand the size of megapixel embedded in your smartphone’s camera. You must also need to understand the character and setting. Here are some practical tips to maximize your photos with smartphone camera. Make sure your lens always clean
No matter how good we take pictures, and how good the object photographed, if our lenses are dirty, the results must be ugly. Considering our smartphone is long put in the pocket, the dirt will eventually stick to camera lens. Therefore, make your time to clean up the lens from dirts before taking pictures. Use a soft cloth to clean it. If exposed to oil, use an LCD cleaning fluid or glasses. Recognize pause of shutter time
Smartphone camera has a pause between we push the button and the camera starts taking photos. In the realm
of photography, this condition is called shutter lag. Unlike DSLR cameras, it is able to take shoots as fast as lightning after we hit the shutter, but smartphones are generally pretty slow. Recognize the shutter lag well so that our hands remain calm after pressing shutter.
Do not use zoom
Usually, the lens in the smartphone camera has a focal length of 25-28 mm where in the realm of photography it is known as a wide-angle lens. That’s why the object looks smaller than it actually is. Seeing this fact, you are often tempted to pinch and zoom so as to make the object look bigger. Avoid using zoom because digital zooming like this is similar to cropping photo on computer. As a result, the photo resolution becomes lower and cropped. The more powerful we zoom, the greater the degradation of the image resolution will be. Hence, you are strongly recommended to always shoot with the distance as close as possible to the object so it is unnecessary to zoom. Take advantage of surrounding light
You need to recognize that camera will optimally capture the objects exposed to light. As much as possible, take advantage of the natural light around the object to ensure that light illuminating the object of the image is sufficient. Thus, you still have a chance to get sharp and clear photos. Also make sure you understand where the light comes from to avoid problems like backlight. However, in a position of minimal light actually you can still capture the moment. If available, use flash when shooting indoor. However, keep in mind that the effective distance of flash is about 2-3 meters. In other words, we cannot expect to light the whole room with flash.
Use highest resolution
The higher the resolution, the higher the quality will be. Probably many people understand this general formula, but not a few that forget in practice. In principle, use the highest resolution that can be done by the smartphone you have instead of using zoom in. Currently, the average smartphone camera has a resolution of up to 4023 x 3024. So, make sure you use the highest resolution to maximize your photos. Hold your smartphone stably
To get sharp photos, the hand should not vibrate or shake when pressing camera shutter. This is also true when you take pictures with a smartphone. The more stable the camera, the better and sharper our photos will be. So, keep your hands from vibrating when taking photos. If necessary, take advantage of more stable objects around you as a backrest. For example, take advantage of table and wall to help the hand stability. Even if necessary, use a special tripod for mobile phones. Set attractive composition
Knowledge of a good composition will help us take better pictures. Get started with the basics in photo composition, such as golden ratio and golden triangles. Similarly, try to take pictures from various angles because training the use of the composition will facilitate you in utilizing camera feature on the smartphone. Knowledge on the rules of this composition will greatly help make ‘neater’ photos and look more powerful. Select good photo editing apps
Smartphones generally have some pretty cute photo processing features. Try to select photo editing apps to edit photos of good quality so as to facilitate us when executing important editing. Do not use excessive filter effects
Spotting a tiger in the Sunderbans National Park, West Bengal, India
WEST BENGAL - Spotting a tiger in its natural habitat in India is notoriously hard. The mangroves and forests of the Sunderbans National Park are shrouded in mist, mostly uninhabitable and much of it is out of bounds to most humans. Spotting a tiger in its natural habitat in India is notoriously hard. And no wonder as there are only 1,400 of these big cats in the country and these are spread over more than 40 national parks. Nevertheless, I was in the area so I took a trip to the Sunderbans Tiger Reserve in West Bengal and stayed hopeful. Oddly, just before setting off from Calcutta to the Sunderbans Tiger Camp our naturalist, Avijit Dutta, reported that: “Some years ago, a 21-year-old woman was dispatched as part of a team to the Sunderbans to catch crabs to sell. On her way back, she was spotted by a hungry tiger who killed and ate her.” By the time I had driven the 90km from Calcutta, picked up one of the many ferries on the Gadkhali jetty that sits in the mouth of the Ganges and sailed two hours to Waxpol Jungle Lodge on Dayapur island, this disconcerting story had been well and truly banished to the dark echelons of my mind. In any case the mangroves and forests of the Sunderbans are shrouded in mist, mostly uninhabitable and much of it is out of bounds to most humans. So for the likes of me and
other tourists, the only way to spot a tiger is on a ferry cruise.
About Sunderbans
From any perspective the view over the Sunderbans seems to stretch forever. “Forever” in numbers is actually 10,000 km2 (3,900 sq mi) making it the biggest area of coastal mangrove forest in the world. It spans two countries: Bengal in India and neighbouring Bangladesh. The Indian part (where I was) covers around 4,262 sq km, with 2,585 sq km given over to a national park and tiger reserve. So it was amid this watery network of tidal waterways, mud flats, small islands and mangrove forests, that I took my chances. There were other hopefuls too, including a honeymooning couple also staying at Waxpol Jungle Lodge, who hired an entire romantically-dressed boat for themselves. Two days meandering through the mangroves The day started at 6.30am on the Jungle Tiger boat. We boarded as the sun rose and watched as the crew brought on breakfast and lunch parcels that they carried on their heads. We finally set off a little after the colourful boat carrying the honeymooners but in the opposite direction. The sun was high and releasing orange-hued rays that made their way through a misty sky drawing a shimmering line of ta-

pered light onto the water. It was a slow quiet glide passing Sajnekhali watchtower complex and through Pirkhali River – khali means canal – and the only noise was the hum of light chatter of Hindi banter from the crew. When we turned right towards Sudhanyakhali, the scene was of swampy mangrove on both sides. And eventually a boat carrying hay. By 8am we were deep in the creek and the egrets could be seen elegantly pottering about the coast, sandpipers flew overhead and black capped and brown winged kingfishers endemic to the mangrove popped up on tree tops and branches. At 8.45 am there was some excitement. Freshly made tiger foot prints could be clearly seen in the silt. We followed the trail along the mud flats but these trailed off into the mangrove and away from sight. Happily, a traditional South Indian breakfast of rice bread, udden dahl and rice – sambar powder sauce, lentils, tamarind and tomato and some peanut chutney on the side – was served and did much to dampen the disappointment. Eventually we reached Five River Junction. It was pretty sedate and we were treated to sightings of spotted dear, the odd boar, plenty of birds and a huge dollop of intensely beautiful scenery. And a small boat carrying a handful of fishermen. (net)

DENPASAR - Bali’s economy in the first quarter of 2018 is estimated to accelerate in the range of 5.73 percent to 6.13 percent (yoy). Meanwhile, the Bali’s economy for the whole year of 2018 is estimated to accelerate by growing 6.0 percent to 6.40 percent (yoy). This was revealed by Deputy Director of Bali Representative Office of Bank Indonesia, Azka Subhan, during the dissemination of Regional Economic and Financial Review (KEKR) of February 2018. On the demand side, the acceleration of Bali’s economic performance is predicted to be driven primarily by the increased performance of all demand components. They include household consumption, consumption of non-profit households, government consumption, foreign exports and investment. Along with the supply side, the improvement of Bali’s economic performance is estimated to be sourced from the increasing performance of all Bali’s main business fields. It covers the field of accommodation, food and beverage, agriculture, trade, transportation, construction and processing industries. By seeing the realization of Bali’s inflation up to January 2018, Bank Indonesia predicted that inflation in Bali in the first quarter of 2018 will be lower than the inflation in fourth quarter of 2017, reaching 2.47 percent to 2.87 percent (yoy). MINGORA - Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai visited her birthplace in Pakistan’s Swat Valley on Saturday, bursting into tears as she entered her childhood home for the first time since a Taliban gunman shot her in 2012. PANAMA CITY - Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro along with more than 50 Venezuelan nationals are considered “high risk” for laundering money and financing terrorism, according to an advisory issued by Panama’s economy and finance ministry. Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab and electoral board president Tibisay Lucena were also named in the advisory along with Socialist Party No. 2 Diosdado Cabello, the elder brother of late president Hugo Chavez, and 16 firms in Venezuela. The economy and finance ministry’s National Commission Against Money Laundering released the list late on Thursday, following its initial announcement on Tuesday. Maduro’s socialist government has repeatedly vowed to combat corruption that has plagued Venezuela and its oil industry for decades, contributing to its devastating economic collapse. But critics say the administration, despite making graft-related arrests, is still crippled by financial malfeasance. Millions of Venezuelans suffer from food and medicine shortages, and the currency has fallen 99.99 percent against the U.S. dollar on the black market since Maduro came to power in 2013. Panama’s advisory calls on financial and non-financial entities in the country to redouble efforts to prevent risk in any transaction involving the listed people and companies. “It’s recommended... that they adopt policies and procedures of ample due diligence,” says the document. In Caracas, Maduro’s government did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Balinese humanist, and former rector of ISI Denpsar (1981-1997), Prof. Dr. I Made Bandem, explains that these ritual paraphernalia are important in religious processions like ngunya, ngelawang (gallivanting street show) and melasti and are used in accordance with time, place and circumstance as well as the scale of the ritual, whether large, medium or small. He added that in the past these objects were the property of kingdoms and were used to show or display the majesty of a kingdom. In modern times such paraphernalia are used when escorting the deities. Indirectly, they contains meaningful philosophy related to showing off the beauty, greatness and grandeur of the deities that are venerated by the community. “All ritual paraphernalia including the bandrang (spears), banners, kober (flags) and so forth are believed to serve as both phyical and spiritual protectors. The use of these objects is also related to the Balinese Hindu community’s respect for local venerated deities”, explained Prof. Bandem. While serving as a means to show respect for the deities, these ojects are also based on the values of Hindu philosophy. Dr. I Gusti Made Ngurah, Chairman of the Sabha Budaya Hindu Bali Foundation said that in the Purana and Itihasa scriptures bandrang are mentioned as being an ordinary spear embellished with feathers symbolizing the power of Lord Brahma, while banners symbolize the power of Lord Vishnu and kober -especially when they bear the image of Hanuman Maruti (son of Lord Bayu) symbolize strength. Due to the forces of such symbols, they are used in combinations with hope of producing balance. Ngurah added that the use of kober with the image of Dewata Nawa Sanga (gods of the nine directions) has become a necessity for the Hindu community of Bali and represents something about the arrival of Hindu religious teachings to Bali. This symbol also represents the the concept of Sarwa Dewata or Sarwa Samudaya which translates as something like ‘the god amounting to more than one’. The nine gods represented in the Dewata Nawa Sanga are each equipped with their own are each equipped with their own weapons as manifestations for their receptive powers. “The use of bandrang, banners, kober and so on are important for their philosophical meanings but also as a sign that a ritual is being held in a particular location” added Gusti Made Ngurah. Israeli troops wound dozens on Gaza border as Palestinians bury dead from earlier violence
GAZA - Israeli troops shot and wounded about 70 Palestinians among crowds demonstrating at the Gaza-Israel border on Saturday, health officials said, after one of the deadliest days of unrest in the area in years.
Thousands of people marched through the streets of Gaza in funerals for the 15 people killed by Israeli gunfire on Friday, and a national day of mourning was observed in the enclave and in the occupied West Bank. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Israel was responsible for the violence. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhu said Israel was protecting its sovereignty and citizens. An Israeli military spokesman said he was checking the details of Saturday’s unrest. It broke out when Palestinians gathered on the border between the Hamas-run enclave and Israel then began throwing stones. Palestinian health officials said about 70 were wounded. On Friday at least 15 Palestinians were killed by Israeli security forces confronting protesters. The military said some had shot at them, rolled burning tyres and hurled rocks and fire bombs toward troops across the border. Hamas said five of them were members of its armed wing. Israel said eight of the 15 dead belonged to Hamas, designated a terrorist group by Israel and the West, and two others belonged to other militant groups. Tens of thousands of Palestinians had gathered on Friday along the fenced 65-km (40-mile) frontier, where tents had been erected for a planned six-week protest pressing for a right of return for refugees and their descendents to what is now Israel. But hundreds of Palestinian youths ignored calls from the organisers and the Israeli military to stay away
from the frontier and violence broke out. The protest, organised by Hamas and other Palestinian factions, is scheduled to culminate on May 15, the day Palestinians commemorate what they call the “Nakba” or “Catastrophe” when hundreds of thousands fled or were driven out of their homes in 1948, when the state of Israel was created. Israel has long ruled out any right of return, fearing an influx of Arabs that would wipe out its Jewish majority. It says refugees should resettle in a future state the Palestinians seek in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza. Peace talks to that end have been frozen since 2014. Israel withdrew its troops and settlers from Gaza in 2005 but still maintains tight control of its land and sea borders. Egypt also keeps its border with Gaza largely closed. Abbas’s spokesman, Nabil Abu Rdainah, said: “The message of the Palestinian people is clear. The Palestinian land will always belong to its legitimate owners and the occupation will be removed.” Israeli military spokesman Brigadier-General Ronen Manelis said Hamas was using the protests as a guise to launch attacks against Israel and ignite the area. He said violence was likely to continue along the border until May 15. “We won’t let this turn into a ping-pong zone where they perpetrate a terrorist act and we respond with pinpoint action. If this continues we will not have no choice but to respond inside the Gaza Strip,” Manelis told reporters. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an independent investigation into Friday’s bloodshed, and appealed for all sides to refrain from any actions that could lead to further casualties or put civilians in harm’s way. MOSCOW - Moscow has told Britain it must cut just over 50 more of its diplomatic and technical staff in Russia as a standoff deepened over the poisoning of a Russian former spy and his daughter in England, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday. Moscow also demanded an official explanation for the search of a Russian passenger plane in London, saying it reserved the right to act similarly against British airlines in Russia. SEMARANG - Research, Technology, and Higher Education Minister M. Nasir stated that only two foreign universities will be operating in Indonesia. “Our target is two (universities). We are now preparing the regulations,” Nasir revealed after a briefing on the impact of Industrial Revolution 4.0 for lecturers and rectors of all universities in Central Java at the Diponegoro University, Semarang, on Wednesday. Several representatives of foreign universities from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Taiwan have expressed interest to start their degree programs in the country. Law No 12 of 2012 on Higher Education facilitates foreign universities to operate in Indonesia. Among the specified requirements to be met by those universities are teaching courses on the Pancasila state ideology, Constitution of 1945, religions, and Bahasa Indonesia. The regulations also encompass a mandatory partnership with local private universities. In addition, the only majors they are allowed to offer are in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Only high-quality foreign universities will be considered, and their local arm must be located in strategic regions, such as Jakarta. “We will form a special economic zone for education,” Nasir added. The government has set a target to allow foreign universities to operate in Indonesia in the hope that it will benefit the country and prevent its youth from spending exorbitant sums of money to gain higher education abroad. The presence of foreign universities in Indonesia is believed to help spur competitiveness among private universities, which, according to a recent survey, are of questionable quality. Indonesia is home to 3,276 universities, 96.28 percent of which are privately run, according to the higher education ministry`s data. Last year, it published a survey that placed 74.4 percent of the private universities in its two lowest clusters, indicating subpar quality. Meanwhile, all Indonesian universities included in the 2018 Quacquarelli Symonds Best 500 World University are state-run: UI, the Bandung Institute of Technology, and Gadjah Mada University. (ant)

Israeli troops wound dozens on Gaza border as Palestinians bury dead from earlier violence
GAZA - Israeli troops shot and wounded about 70 Palestinians among crowds demonstrating at the Gaza-Israel border on Saturday, health officials said, after one of the deadliest days of unrest in the area in years.
Thousands of people marched through the streets of Gaza in funerals for the 15 people killed by Israeli gunfire on Friday, and a national day of mourning was observed in the enclave and in the occupied West Bank. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Israel was responsible for the violence. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhu said Israel was protecting its sovereignty and citizens. An Israeli military spokesman said he was checking the details of Saturday’s unrest. It broke out when Palestinians gathered on the border between the Hamas-run enclave and Israel then began throwing stones. Palestinian health officials said about 70 were wounded. On Friday at least 15 Palestinians were killed by Israeli security forces confronting protesters. The military said some had shot at them, rolled burning tyres and hurled rocks and fire bombs toward troops across the border. Hamas said five of them were members of its armed wing. Israel said eight of the 15 dead belonged to Hamas, designated a terrorist group by Israel and the West, and two others belonged to other militant groups. Tens of thousands of Palestinians had gathered on Friday along the fenced 65-km (40-mile) frontier, where tents had been erected for a planned six-week protest pressing for a right of return for refugees and their descendents to what is now Israel. But hundreds of Palestinian youths ignored calls from the organisers and the Israeli military to stay away
from the frontier and violence broke out. The protest, organised by Hamas and other Palestinian factions, is scheduled to culminate on May 15, the day Palestinians commemorate what they call the “Nakba” or “Catastrophe” when hundreds of thousands fled or were driven out of their homes in 1948, when the state of Israel was created. Israel has long ruled out any right of return, fearing an influx of Arabs that would wipe out its Jewish majority. It says refugees should resettle in a future state the Palestinians seek in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza. Peace talks to that end have been frozen since 2014. Israel withdrew its troops and settlers from Gaza in 2005 but still maintains tight control of its land and sea borders. Egypt also keeps its border with Gaza largely closed. Abbas’s spokesman, Nabil Abu Rdainah, said: “The message of the Palestinian people is clear. The Palestinian land will always belong to its legitimate owners and the occupation will be removed.” Israeli military spokesman Brigadier-General Ronen Manelis said Hamas was using the protests as a guise to launch attacks against Israel and ignite the area. He said violence was likely to continue along the border until May 15. “We won’t let this turn into a ping-pong zone where they perpetrate a terrorist act and we respond with pinpoint action. If this continues we will not have no choice but to respond inside the Gaza Strip,” Manelis told reporters. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an independent investigation into Friday’s bloodshed, and appealed for all sides to refrain from any actions that could lead to further casualties or put civilians in harm’s way. MOSCOW - Moscow has told Britain it must cut just over 50 more of its diplomatic and technical staff in Russia as a standoff deepened over the poisoning of a Russian former spy and his daughter in England, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday. Moscow also demanded an official explanation for the search of a Russian passenger plane in London, saying it reserved the right to act similarly against British airlines in Russia. Britain said the search was routine. Russia advised its citizens to think carefully before traveling to Britain, warning they could fall victim to official harassment. SEMARANG - Research, Technology, and Higher Education Minister M. Nasir stated that only two foreign universities will be operating in Indonesia. “Our target is two (universities). We are now preparing the regulations,” Nasir revealed after a briefing on the impact of Industrial Revolution 4.0 for lecturers and rectors of all universities in Central Java at the Diponegoro University, Semarang, on Wednesday. Several representatives of foreign universities from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Taiwan have expressed interest to start their degree programs in the country. Law No 12 of 2012 on Higher Education facilitates foreign universities to operate in Indonesia. Among the specified requirements to be met by those universities are teaching courses on the Pancasila state ideology, Constitution of 1945, religions, and Bahasa Indonesia. The regulations also encompass a mandatory partnership with local private universities. In addition, the only majors they are allowed to offer are in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Only high-quality foreign universities will be considered, and their local arm must be located in strategic regions, such as Jakarta. “We will form a special economic zone for education,” Nasir added. The government has set a target to allow foreign universities to operate in Indonesia in the hope that it will benefit the country and prevent its youth from spending exorbitant sums of money to gain higher education abroad. The presence of foreign universities in Indonesia is believed to help spur competitiveness among private universities, which, according to a recent survey, are of questionable quality. Indonesia is home to 3,276 universities, 96.28 percent of which are privately run, according to the higher education ministry`s data. Last year, it published a survey that placed 74.4 percent of the private universities in its two lowest clusters, indicating subpar quality. Meanwhile, all Indonesian universities included in the 2018 Quacquarelli Symonds Best 500 World University are state-run: UI, the Bandung Institute of Technology, and Gadjah Mada University. (ant)

The 29-year old Averil offered four kinds of coffee - Aceh Gayo, Toraja, Mandailing and Sidikalang, to coffee lovers in Hanoi. Meanwhile, the Tourism Ministry has set a target of attracting at least 74 thousand Vietnamese tourists in 2018, or up from 64 thousand in 2017. “The target of receiving 74 thousand Vietnamese tourists is most likely achievable, as Vietnam has enjoyed high economic growth over the last 10 years,” Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Ibnu Hadi informed ANTARA News on the sidelines of the VITM 2018. The number of rich people in Vietnam has increased, and several of them are interested in traveling abroad, he noted. However, traveling to Indonesia from Hanoi is problematic due to the absence of direct flights. “This issue of lack of accessibility has led to Vietnamese people opting to go for holidays in Thailand, Malaysia, China, Japan, and Hong Kong,” he stated. PANAMA CITY - Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro along with more than 50 Venezuelan nationals are considered “high risk” for laundering money and financing terrorism, according to an advisory issued by Panama’s economy and finance ministry. Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab and electoral board president Tibisay Lucena were also named in the advisory along with Socialist Party No. 2 Diosdado Cabello, the elder brother of late president Hugo Chavez, and 16 firms in Venezuela. The economy and finance ministry’s National Commission Against Money Laundering released the list late on Thursday, following its initial announcement on Tuesday. Maduro’s socialist government has repeatedly vowed to combat corruption that has plagued Venezuela and its oil industry for decades, contributing to its devastating economic collapse. But critics say the administration, despite making graft-related arrests, is still crippled by financial malfeasance. Millions of Venezuelans suffer from food and medicine shortages, and the currency has fallen 99.99 percent against the U.S. dollar on the black market since Maduro came to power in 2013. Panama’s advisory calls on financial and non-financial entities in the country to redouble efforts to prevent risk in any transaction involving the listed people and companies. “It’s recommended... that they adopt policies and procedures of ample due diligence,” says the document. In Caracas, Maduro’s government did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The United States has slammed Caracas with a wave of sanctions and other measures to pressure Maduro for change, and is considering adding broad oil sanctions that would target the linchpin of Venezuela’s economy. Apart from their decorative aspects, these banners also have spiritual meaning and provide protection. Balinese humanist, and former rector of ISI Denpsar (1981-1997), Prof. Dr. I Made Bandem, explains that these ritual paraphernalia are important in religious processions like ngunya, ngelawang (gallivanting street show) and melasti and are used in accordance with time, place and circumstance as well as the scale of the ritual, whether large, medium or small. He added that in the past these objects were the property of kingdoms and were used to show or display the majesty of a kingdom. In modern times such paraphernalia are used when escorting the deities. Indirectly, they contains meaningful philosophy related to showing off the beauty, greatness and grandeur of the deities that are venerated by the community. “All ritual paraphernalia including the bandrang (spears), banners, kober (flags) and so forth are believed to serve as both phyical and spiritual protectors. The use of these objects is also related to the Balinese Hindu community’s respect for local venerated deities”, explained Prof. Bandem. While serving as a means to show respect for the deities, these ojects are also based on the values of Hindu philosophy. Dr. I Gusti Made Ngurah, Chairman of the Sabha Budaya Hindu Bali Foundation said that in the Purana and Itihasa scriptures bandrang are mentioned as being an ordinary spear embellished with feathers symbolizing the power of Lord Brahma, while banners symbolize the power of Lord Vishnu and kober -especially when they bear the image of Hanuman Maruti (son of Lord Bayu) symbolize strength. Due to the forces of such symbols, they are used in combinations with hope of producing balance. Ngurah added that the use of kober with the image of Dewata Nawa Sanga (gods of the nine directions) has become a necessity for the Hindu community of Bali and represents something about the arrival of Hindu religious teachings to Bali. This symbol also represents the the concept of Sarwa Dewata or Sarwa Samudaya which translates as something like ‘the god amounting to more than one’. The nine gods represented in the Dewata Nawa Sanga are each equipped with their own are each equipped with their own weapons as manifestations for their receptive powers. “The use of bandrang, banners, kober and so on are important for their philosophical meanings but also as a sign that a ritual is being held in a particular location” added Gusti Made Ngurah. Estimated to grow 6.13 percent in first quarter of 2018
DENPASAR - Bali’s economy in the first quarter of 2018 is estimated to accelerate in the range of 5.73 percent to 6.13 percent (yoy). Meanwhile, the Bali’s economy for the whole year of 2018 is estimated to accelerate by growing 6.0 percent to 6.40 percent (yoy). This was revealed by Deputy Director of Bali Representative Office of Bank Indonesia, Azka Subhan, during the dissemination of Regional Economic and Financial Review (KEKR) of February 2018. On the demand side, the acceleration of Bali’s economic performance is predicted to be driven primarily by the increased performance of all demand components. They include household consumption, consumption of non-profit households, government consumption, foreign exports and investment. Along with the supply side, the improvement of Bali’s economic performance is estimated to be sourced from the increasing performance of all Bali’s main business fields. It covers the field of accommodation, food and beverage, agriculture, trade, transportation, construction and processing industries. By seeing the realization of Bali’s inflation up to January 2018, Bank Indonesia predicted that inflation in Bali in the first quarter of 2018 will be lower than the inflation in fourth quarter of 2017, reaching 2.47 percent to 2.87 percent (yoy). IN this millennial age, photography is no longer a strange activity for most people. Armed with a smartphone, everyone can now take pictures easily. Moreover, the camera seeming to be a ‘must’ facility in the smartphone is now equipped with various leading features whose quality continues to be improved. Moreover, the growing proliferation of photo editing apps makes photographing activities with smartphones become more exciting. However, it must be remembered. Even though every smartphone owner can take pictures, it does not necessarily mean they can instantly create unique and interesting photographs that can draw the attention when the photos are uploaded onto social media such as Instagram, Facebook and so forth. No matter how good we take pictures, and how good the object photographed, if our lenses are dirty, the results must be ugly. Considering our smartphone is long put in the pocket, the dirt will eventually stick to camera lens. Therefore, make your time to clean up the lens from dirts before taking pictures. Use a soft cloth to clean it. If exposed to oil, use an LCD cleaning fluid or glasses. Recognize pause of shutter time

Do not use zoom
Usually, the lens in the smartphone camera has a focal length of 25-28 mm where in the realm of photography it is known as a wide-angle lens. That’s why the object looks smaller than it actually is. Seeing this fact, you are often tempted to pinch and zoom so as to make the object look bigger. Avoid using zoom because digital zooming like this is similar to cropping photo on computer. As a result, the photo resolution becomes lower and cropped. The more powerful we zoom, the greater the degradation of the image resolution will be. Hence, you are strongly recommended to always shoot with the distance as close as possible to the object so it is unnecessary to zoom. Take advantage of surrounding light
You need to recognize that camera will optimally capture the objects exposed to light. As much as possible, take advantage of the natural light around the object to ensure that light illuminating the object of the image is sufficient. Thus, you still have a chance to get sharp and clear photos. Also make sure you understand where the light comes from to avoid problems like backlight. However, in a position of minimal light actually you can still capture the moment. If available, use flash when shooting indoor. However, keep in mind that the effective distance of flash is about 2-3 meters. In other words, we cannot expect to light the whole room with flash.
Use highest resolution
The higher the resolution, the higher the quality will be. Probably many people understand this general formula, but not a few that forget in practice. In principle, use the highest resolution that can be done by the smartphone you have instead of using zoom in. Currently, the average smartphone camera has a resolution of up to 4023 x 3024. So, make sure you use the highest resolution to maximize your photos. Hold your smartphone stably

Spotting a tiger in the Sunderbans National Park, West Bengal, India
WEST BENGAL - Spotting a tiger in its natural habitat in India is notoriously hard. The mangroves and forests of the Sunderbans National Park are shrouded in mist, mostly uninhabitable and much of it is out of bounds to most humans. Spotting a tiger in its natural habitat in India is notoriously hard. And no wonder as there are only 1,400 of these big cats in the country and these are spread over more than 40 national parks. Nevertheless, I was in the area so I took a trip to the Sunderbans Tiger Reserve in West Bengal and stayed hopeful. Oddly, just before setting off from Calcutta to the Sunderbans Tiger Camp our naturalist, Avijit Dutta, reported that: “Some years ago, a 21-year-old woman was dispatched as part of a team to the Sunderbans to catch crabs to sell. On her way back, she was spotted by a hungry tiger who killed and ate her.” By the time I had driven the 90km from Calcutta, picked up one of the many ferries on the Gadkhali jetty that sits in the mouth of the Ganges and sailed two hours to Waxpol Jungle Lodge on Dayapur island, this disconcerting story had been well and truly banished to the dark echelons of my mind. In any case the mangroves and forests of the Sunderbans are shrouded in mist, mostly uninhabitable and much of it is out of bounds to most humans. So for the likes of me and
other tourists, the only way to spot a tiger is on a ferry cruise.
About Sunderbans
From any perspective the view over the Sunderbans seems to stretch forever. “Forever” in numbers is actually 10,000 km2 (3,900 sq mi) making it the biggest area of coastal mangrove forest in the world. It spans two countries: Bengal in India and neighbouring Bangladesh. The Indian part (where I was) covers around 4,262 sq km, with 2,585 sq km given over to a national park and tiger reserve. So it was amid this watery network of tidal waterways, mud flats, small islands and mangrove forests, that I took my chances. There were other hopefuls too, including a honeymooning couple also staying at Waxpol Jungle Lodge, who hired an entire romantically-dressed boat for themselves. Two days meandering through the mangroves The day started at 6.30am on the Jungle Tiger boat. We boarded as the sun rose and watched as the crew brought on breakfast and lunch parcels that they carried on their heads. We finally set off a little after the colourful boat carrying the honeymooners but in the opposite direction. The sun was high and releasing orange-hued rays that made their way through a misty sky drawing a shimmering line of ta-

pered light onto the water. It was a slow quiet glide passing Sajnekhali watchtower complex and through Pirkhali River – khali means canal – and the only noise was the hum of light chatter of Hindi banter from the crew. When we turned right towards Sudhanyakhali, the scene was of swampy mangrove on both sides. And eventually a boat carrying hay. By 8am we were deep in the creek and the egrets could be seen elegantly pottering about the coast, sandpipers flew overhead and black capped and brown winged kingfishers endemic to the mangrove popped up on tree tops and branches. At 8.45 am there was some excitement. Freshly made tiger foot prints could be clearly seen in the silt. We followed the trail along the mud flats but these trailed off into the mangrove and away from sight. Happily, a traditional South Indian breakfast of rice bread, udden dahl and rice – sambar powder sauce, lentils, tamarind and tomato and some peanut chutney on the side – was served and did much to dampen the disappointment. Eventually we reached Five River Junction. It was pretty sedate and we were treated to sightings of spotted dear, the odd boar, plenty of birds and a huge dollop of intensely beautiful scenery. And a small boat carrying a handful of fishermen. (net)

DENPASAR Transportation Agency has been doing a free school bus trial operation since November 13, 2017. During the trial period, bus operations went well, and no significant obstacles were found. The trial period ended on December 16, 2017 and given its success, the Deputy Minister of Public Service of the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, Diah Natalisa, and the Denpasar Mayor IB Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra officially launched the school bus route on December 28, 2018.
Legislators have expressed their apprecaiation for the school bus service that helpes to reduce traffic congestion and are now urgin provate schools to offer a similar service to their students. Chairman of Commission IV of the Denpasar House of Representatives, I Gede Semara, accompanied by his member Gede Arya Jembawan, recently explained that there are too many junior high school students who go to and from school on motorbike. Not only is this dangerous for both the young students and other road users, but is also adds considerable congestion to traffic on the island. School bus services need to be made available to students, he said adding: “especially for routes where no public transport is available”, said Semara. Students are being asked to use public transport where available and for schools to provide a special fleet of buses for areas where there is no public transport. This, he said will reduce the number of young students riding motorcycles to school. The public has responded positively to the 6 buses that the Denpasar Transport Agency has provided as seen by the growing number of students registering to access this service. Currently the fleet of school buses can carry 446 students per day and 426 students have signed up. Section Head of Land Transportation, Denpasar Transportation Agency, I Dewa Ketut Adi Pradnyana, confirmed on Saturday (Mar. 31) that the free school bus trial that started in November has gone very well. During an information session held by the Denpasar Education Agency for private schools and institutions recently, Regional Secretary of the City of Denpasar, AAN Rai Iswara said that the 6 school buses from the Transportation Agency have successfully curtailed the use of private vehicles by young students. “We would like to thank the private schools for supporting the Municipality of Denpasar’s program for reducing traffic congestion by using school buses”, said Rai Iswara. The school bus program is also part of the City of Denpasar’s smart city education program. STHe school buses are equipped with Si_Bused (School Bus Information System) using smart cards making it easier for parents to detect their children;s presence on the bus. Private schools are being asked to provide school buses for their students so as to reduce after school traffic congestion. “Even if each private school only provides one 25-seat capacity bus, that would mean 25 less vehicles on the street at peak traffic hours. If the private school buses have trouble picking students up and dropping them off right at their homes, they can use the drop zones made available by the Municipality of Denpasar”, explained Iswara. Pope, after Gaza violence, says ‘defenceless’ being killed in Holy Land
VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis, in his Easter address on Sunday, called for peace in the Holy Land two days after 15 Palestinians were killed on the Israeli-Gaza border, saying the conflict there “does not spare the defenceless”. The pope made his appeal in his “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world) message from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica to tens of thousands of people in the flower-bedecked square below where he earlier celebrated a Mass. He also appealed for an end to the “carnage” in Syria, calling for humanitarian aid to be allowed to enter, and for peace in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Francis appeared to refer directly to the Gaza violence last Friday, calling for “reconciliation for the Holy Land, also experiencing in these days the wounds of ongoing conflict that do not spare the defenceless.” Israel’s defence minister has rejected calls for an inquiry into the
killings by the military during a Palestinian demonstration that turned violent at the Gaza-Israel border. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Federica Mogherini, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, and other leaders have called for an independent investigation into the bloodshed. The Pope also begged for peace for “the entire world, beginning with the beloved and long-suffering land of Syria, whose people are worn down by an apparently endless war.”
“This Easter, may the light of the risen Christ illumine the consciences of all political and military leaders, so that a swift end may be brought to the carnage in course ... “ he said. He spoke a day after the Syrian army command said it had regained most of the towns and villages in eastern Ghouta. Tens of thousands of people have now evacuated once-bustling towns in the suburbs east of the capital, which had nearly 2 million people before the start of
the conflict and were major commercial and industrial hubs. Francis called for international assistance for Venezuela, so that more people would not have to abandon their homeland because of the economic and political crisis. He hoped the “fruits of dialogue” would advance peace and harmony on the Korean peninsula, where the two sides are set to hold their first summit in more than a decade on April 27, after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged his commitment to denuclearisation. Francis, celebrating his sixth Easter as Roman Catholic leader since his election in 2013, urged his listeners to work for an end to the “so many acts of injustice” in
the world. He prayed the power of Jesus’ message “bears fruits of hope and dignity where there are deprivation and exclusion, hunger and unemployment, where there are migrants and refugees - so often rejected by today’s culture of waste - and victims of the drug trade, human trafficking and contemporary forms of slavery”.
