Cruise posed for photos at the stadium’s newly installed pitch holding a Brazil jersey with his name on the back. The actor told Globo TV it “would be an honor” to make it to the 2014 World Cup final at the famed venue. He received an autographed ball from Zico, and said he would message friend David Beckham about his meeting with the former Brazilian playmaker, saying the British star would be “jealous.” The Maracana, which also hosted the 1950 World Cup final, is being renovated ahead of next June’s Confederations Cup, the warm-up tournament a year before football’s showcase event.

NEW YORK — Maroon 5 says they’re working on a new album, but before that the pop-rockers will launch a summer tour that finds the fivesome playing outdoors. The Grammy-winning band announced Monday that they will headline the 2013 Honda Civic Tour, which kicks off Aug. 1 in St. Louis and will feature Kelly Clarkson. “I think the live outdoor kind of summer vibe is always different than the indoor arena tour because there’s less emphasis on production and more on live music,” frontman Adam Levine said in an interview. “It’s kind of the purist form of a tour ‘cause there’s not too many bells and whistles.” The 31-date tour wraps Oct. 5 in San Diego. NUSA DUA - A Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) of the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime is being held here from April 1 to 2, 2013. The SOM among other things discussed the role of international media, particularly media in the refugee’s countries of origin, in reporting the danger of using small boats to sail to countries of destination, the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry’s Director General for Multilateral Affairs Hasan Kleib said here on Monday. He said international media often reported about “success stories” of illegal immigrants, instead of about how they put their lives at risk when sailing to countries of destination, such as Australia and New Zealand. “Our maritime territories covering 3,000 miles. Refugees could be stranded any time on our shores when sailing from their countries to Australia or New Zealand,” he said. The Senior Officials’ Meeting will be followed by a Ministerial level Meeting on April 3 and 4, 2014, which will be attended by 200 participants from 35 member countries of the Bali Process, 11 ministers, two deputy ministers, delegations from 18 observer nations and 10 international organizations as observers.

DENPASAR - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) currently records that the lowest rate of drug abuse in the country has reached 3.8 million people. “Such figure is based on statistical data with the lowest rate of 3.8 million and the highest rate of 4 million people,” said Prevention Deputy of the BNN, Yappi Manafe, when met at an event recently in Denpasar. He explained that from the figure, the largest portion lay in the workplace, including the workers in the arts, while the remaining users were students. When examined further,

the users among the workers posed advanced user group as continuation of the circle of students. If the central BNN noted 3.8 million people for drug abuse in Indonesia, the Bali Provincial Narcotics Agency indicated that prevalence rate of drug abuse in Bali reached 1.8 percent of the population or reached 50,530 people. The quality of Petang Health Community Center (Puskesmas) is being questioned as after two years old, part of it has had damages such as a number of ceilings have collapsed. The worst incident happened at the administration room on the second floor last Tuesday (26/3). According to workers, the incident just happened. Luckily at the time was the day before Galungan or Penampahan and a holiday so there were no victims. According to the public members, there has been signs of the ceilings will collapse for quite some time moreover some seen peeling. Both sides have been worried about it hoping that the building will not collapse completely. Even though these incidents did not disturb doctor and patients’ rooms, everyone are worried if no reparation or maintenance take place anytime soon. Head of Badung Health Agency, I Gede Putra Suteja, last Sunday (31/3) when confirmed did not comment on the building’s quality. “For sure if there is a problem we will take action,” Suteja stated. The catches of fishermen are not only sold to traditional markets and supermarkets, but also processed into high quality and nutritional servings such as nuggets and dumplings. Both servings made from fresh fish begin to be developed and facilitated by the Buleleng Fisheries and Maritime Affairs. The Head of Fishery and Maritime Affairs, Nyoman Sutrisna, said in Singaraja last Sunday (Mar 31) that all this time the processed fish catches of fishermen had not led to modern recipes targeting the elite market. It was inseparable from the limited capability, marketing and capital support owned by the fish processing group. As initial measure, his party tried to stimulate the fish processing group to process fish into a classy cuisine. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

‘iSteve’ Aims to Be Not the Best but the 1st Steve Jobs Biopic You can’t have too many Steve Jobs biographical movies. At least that’s the thought behind “iSteve,” a new Steve Jobs biopic from Funny or Die starring Justin Long as Apple’s iconic founder. “Our goal was to be the first Steve Jobs movie out there,” Ryan Perez, the writer and director of “iSteve,” told ABC News in a phone interview. Perez and his team wrote the script in three days and shot the film in five. It will be released on April 15 on Funnyordie.com. Justin Long, who played the Mac in Apple’s “Mac vs. PC” commercials, won the role of Jobs. “We put together a list of actors that would be great to play Steve Jobs, and he was at the top of the list,” Perez said. “He was a fantastic actor and totally committed to the role. He learned an 81-page script on the fly.” Joining Long is Jorge Garcia, most well-known as Hurly from “Lost,” as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. James Urbaniak from “American Splendor” plays Bill Gates and former “SNL” cast member Michaela Watkins will appear opposite him as Melinda Gates. “iSteve,” Perez said, will cover most of Jobs’ life, from his days working out of the garage in Los Altos, Calif., to the development of the iPhone and Apple as we know it today. In addition to “iSteve,” there are two other Steve Jobs biopics on the horizon. “jOBS,” starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs, was due out on April 19, but was recently delayed. Aaron Sorkin is also writing a Steve Jobs film. Sorkin has said his film will focus on a particular point in Jobs’ life. Funny or Die, a comedy online production company, creates funny short Web videos. “iSteve,” which is going to be about an hour long, should be one of the funnier Steve Jobs films. But Perez wouldn’t talk up that aspect of the movie. “I will leave it up to the audience to judge if they feel it is funny,” he said. Some believe that might be a risky move -- creating a parody of the iconic business leader and tech entrepreneur who passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 56. However, Perez said, he isn’t worried about that. “We think there is room for many takes on the Steve Jobs story, and we are honored to be throwing our hats in the ring,” he said. “May the best Jobs win.” But, in Perez’s and Funny or Die’s minds, it has already won. It will be the first Jobs biopic to market. “Our goal was to make this the fastest and do it first,” he said. “We pulled it off.” And that might be the start of the parody or irony, because Jobs was never the first-to-market kind of guy.

The virtual reality headset, the gizmo that was supposed to seamlessly transport wearers to three-dimensional virtual worlds, has made a remarkable return at this year’s Game Developers Conference, an annual gathering of video game makers in San Francisco. After drumming up hype over the past year and banking $2.4 million from crowdfunding, the Irvine, Calif.-based company Oculus VR captured the conference’s attention this week with the Oculus Rift, its VR headset that’s more like a pair of ski goggles than those bulky gaming helmets of the 1990s that usually left users with headaches. “Developers who start working on VR games now are going to be able to do cool things,” said Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey. “This is the first time when the technology, software, community and rendering power is all really there.” While VR technology has successfully been employed in recent years for military and medical training purposes, it’s been too expensive, clunky or just plain bad for most at-home gamers. Oculus VR’s headset is armed with stereoscopic 3-D, low-latency head tracking and a 110-degree field of view, and the

company expects it to cost just a few hundred bucks. A line at the conference snaked around the expo floor with attendees waiting for a chance to plop the glasses on their head and play a few minutes of “Hawken,” an upcoming first-person shooter that puts players inside levitating war machines. Attendance was also at capacity for a Thursday talk called “Virtual Reality: The Holy Grail of Gaming” led by Luckey. The Head of Buleleng Agriculture and Livestock Agency, Nyoman Swatantra, admitted that all this time Buleleng farmers were reluctant to grow local rice. They reasoned the cultivation of local rice gave low production and it took them longer time to harvest compared to the superior variety. It occurred because the age of plant to harvest reached five months and the highest production was only four tons per hectare. Meanwhile, it they cultivated hybrid variety it would only take them for three months and give yields up to seven tons per hectare. At Subak Munduk, Munduk village, Banjar subdistrict, would be opened a pilot project for red rice cultivation at the area of 55 hectares, at Subak Gobleg, Gobleg village (35 hectares) and Gesing village (10 hectares). At Sudaji village, the demonstration plot was specifically opened for local rice known as Sudaji rice. The land was located at Subak Dukuh across 20 hectares, Subak Teben Desa (10 hectares), Subak Babakan Sanda (5 hectares), Subak Getih (10 hectares), Subak Juwuk (5 hectares), Subak Mayongan Punggakan (10 hectares) and Subak Mayongan Pitu (5 hectares). Meanwhile, at Subak Muara, Sambangan village, Sukasada subdistrict, would be cultivated the cicih variety at the area of 30 hectares. “For red rice, the planting was carried out last January, while the planting of Sudaji and cicih rice is estimated to begin next June and July 2013,” he explained. As preliminary measure, local government allocated a budget in 2013 worth IDR 342.25 million. The assistance was in the form of local rice seed, urea, NPK and organic fertilizer. Upon entering the harvest period, continued Swatantra, local government would facilitate the farmers to market their products. The Agriculture and Cooperative Agency would invite entrepreneurs in Buleleng to purchase the local rice production. Based on market price, the red rice, Sudaji or cicih rice was sold variedly between IDR 15,000 and IDR 17,500 per kilogram. “After the harvest, we and the Cooperative Agency will invite local entrepreneurs in need of local rice and we offer them to purchase local rice product we have developed,” he added. For treatment, the Bali Health Agency had a total stock of about 10,000 pills of tamiflu and alerted health medical officers ranging from the community health centers to hospital as the referral of bird flu patient namely the Sanglah Hospital. According to the Secretary of Sanglah Hospital Bird Flu Handling, Ken Wirasandhi, the suspect of bird flu cases in Bali during the period of 20052012 amounted to 75 people. The last case suspect was found in February 2012. “Most suspected cases happened in 2007 reaching 30 people and 20 people in 2011,” said Ken. From 75 patients of bird flu suspect, 10 people died and based on the PCR examination to the 10 deaths, seven of them were tested positive for bird flu. The presence of bird flu virus was endemic in Bali. Every year, the virus disappeared and then re-appeared. Its re-emergence could occur if the environmental conditions supported. Humid temperatures and lack of sanitation, especially in the poultry cages, could enlarge the possibility of bird flu infection. Prevention of bird flu infections both in poultry and humans was actually not difficult. It could be done by applying a clean and healthy lifestyle such as washing hands before and after touching birds and their eggs. Further measures were cleaning the chicken cage regularly and spraying it with disinfectant. Ultimately, it should also be followed with cooking the processed poultry and burying or burning the remnants of the processed poultry. Ken added the early symptoms of bird flu infection were in the form of ILI including fever, cough and cold being similar to influenza. However, if these conditions occurred after the patient had contact with poultry it would be better to bring the patient directly to community health center for further care and treatment. “If the influenza occurs after having contact with poultry dying suddenly, please take the patient directly to community health center because it has specially trained officers to handle the bird flu cases and the tamiflu,” said Ken. Tamiflu was not sold freely nor distributed through private doctor and private hospital. Distribution of this medicine was only done in government-owned health services, so that it was important for people to bring their family suffering from the ILI and had a history of contact with poultry directly to government-owned health services. “The sooner of tamiflu administration is better. Effectiveness of this medication is 1 x 24 hours after the emergence of ILI symptoms,” he explained. (san)

DAR ES SALAAM - The death toll from the collapse of a multi-storey building in Tanzania has risen to 34 after more bodies were pulled from the rubble, a senior government official said on Monday. Rescue workers at the site in a district in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam have now cleared most of the debris and reached the basement of the building that caved in on Friday morning. It is likely more bodies could be found. Tanzania’s buoyant economy has fuelled a building boom, especially in Kariakoo and the city center. But

They carry many aspects of knowledge, ranging from philosophy, local healing, literature, architecture, agriculture, herbal practice, astrology and so forth. Therefore, if they could be interpreted and presented in popular language, they could become attractive information for young generation and saleable books for commercial needs. Today, there is also a trend

of poising the tradition with modern science namely by re-interpreting the indigenous wisdoms that are relevant to the current time. People will get balanced inputs from the past and current orientation. Of course, such treasures will be beneficial for the conservation and future development of Balinese culture because it stays in touch with its original roots. Young generation should be introduced to these roots at early stage. Later, they will not lose their identity and even could feel proud of it. Moreover, it could give them inspiration in making their creativities, either in fine arts, performance, traditional architecture or herbal healings. Thanks to modern technology, the writing of Balinese characters now can be made easy by Bali Simbar font. It is the innovative thinking of I Made Suatjana (1986) lies behind the composing of this font. His work has helped the writing of Balinese characters in word processing application like Microsoft Word. BAMAKO - Malian troops searched house-to-house in Timbuktu on Monday morning following hours of fighting with Islamist rebels who had infiltrated the northern desert town. Residents said calm had returned by late Sunday after heavy clashes and airstrikes by French fighter jets backing the Malian troops forced them to shelter indoors. The fighting reflected the difficulty of securing Mali after a French intervention in January that pushed the rebels out of their northern strongholds. “Things are quiet this morning. The markets are open, traffic is on the streets, and people are out of their houses,” Timbuktu resident Garba Maiga said by telephone.

Malian military sources said soldiers were sweeping parts of the town to ensure there were no remaining rebel fighters. At least one Malian soldier was killed in the clashes, along with more than 20 insurgents, according to a government statement on Sunday night. Residents said at least five civilians were killed in the crossfire.

An army spokesman said that groups of rebels had entered the town after setting off a suicide car bomb at a checkpoint, diverting the military’s attention. SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Four people were hurt Sunday when a driver crashed his car into a Wal-Mart and then assaulted customers inside, officials said. The man hit two cars in the parking lot at about 11:15 a.m. with his red Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan then crashed through the storefront near the pharmacy and collided with a beer display before stopping, police and witnesses said. The unidentified driver then got out of his car and used a blunt object to attack people, San Jose police Officer Albert Morales said. The driver was arrested when officers arrived. Investigators have not determined how fast the driver — described as a man in his 30s — was going at the time of the crash but the car went about 20 feet into the Wal-Mart Supercenter that had about 70 people inside in San Jose, Morales said. One person suffered what Morales described as serious injuries. He did not know the extent of the injuries to the three other people but said they were not life-threatening. The injured included a store employee. Customer Sharon Kaye told the San Jose Mercury News the driver sideswiped her car as he made several runs around the parking lot before driving between poles at the entrance and crashing into the store. “At first, I thought I may have done something to anger him while driving,” she said. “But then I realized he was out to get into the store.” After the crash, the entrance to the Wal-Mart was roped off with yellow police tape, and workers put up large boards covering the automatic doors where the car had entered. PARIS - Qatari-backed Paris St Germain’s mission to be considered one of Europe’s top clubs faces its toughest test yet when they host Barcelona in an intriguing Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday. Barcelona, having recovered from a first-leg stumble in their last-16 tie against AC Milan to qualify for the last eight 4-2 on aggregate, are widely considered favourites to win the trophy for the fourth time in eight seasons at Wembley in May. PSG, who saw off Valencia in the last 16, believe however that this could be a turning point in their climb to the peak of the European game. The wealthy French club, under experienced coach Carlo Ancelotti, are on course for their first domestic title for 18 years as well as being in the last eight of the Champions League after an 18-year absence. They go into Tuesday’s tie, however, as underdogs for the first time this season - and will do well to survive it. Qatari fund QSI has set PSG a tough agenda of winning the Champions League within five years, having bought the club last year and poured huge amounts of money into transfers to build a team made for Europe. Centre back Thiago Silva, front man Zlatan Ibrahimovic and forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, who all signed last year, have been key in helping PSG reach this stage, and at least they have a good omen on their side. time they reached the quarter-finals in 1995, they beat Barcelona but much has changed since. PSG have been absent while Barcelona have been crowned European champions three times. Thiago Silva said the tie was “the game we all were dreaming about” and the expensively purchased trio will have to raise their level to the heights if PSG are to stand any chance of winning. Many speedboats operating on Lake Beratan, Candikuning village, Baturiti, reap complaints from local customary villagers. Worrying about contamination, they reject the addition of a speed boat operated on the lake. They argue the use of many fueled speedboats would have bad impact on the ecosystem of the sanctified lake. On the contrary, customary villagers proposed the use of paddle boat.
