Alleged to hold striptease dance, threatened by 16 months in jail Denpasar (Bali Post)—

The defendant Gusti Ngurah Wicaksana who allegedly allowed the performance of striptease dance, on Monday (Nov 29) began the trial at Denpasar District Court. In the trial that almost did not get the attention of visitors of the session, the manager at a nightclub entertainment was charged to have violated the Article 296 of the Criminal Code.

Buleleng Region successfully received Raksaniyata Award which is an award for an Indonesian Region that most successfully ran various activities for greenery in the Reaching Green Indonesia Program (MIH) 2010. Dozens of Cows Smuggling Failed Negara, DenPost

Jembrana Police and Gilimanuk Sea Police held an operation at Gilimanuk Harbor last Sunday (28/11) evening until Monday (29/11) early morning. The operation led by Head of Crime Research Unit Jembrana Police AKP Ketut Suparta was done to anticipate the increasing crime cases in Bali. The operation targets items, people and vehicles. “This operation we do is to minimize the chance of crime actions in Bali and also a preparation for Bali Democratic Forum. The targets are still vehicles, items and people who are going in and out,” Head of Jembrana Police, Irfing Jaya, explained during supervising the operation on location. In this operation around 40 personnel from both police departments are involved and it managed to fail 14 male cows smuggling which were without official documents for quarantine. This smuggling to Bali from Java is not only happening in unofficial routes but also through here. The cows were brought by Suardana from Tabanan with truck DK 9399 GM and planned to bring it to Jakarta. After evidences secured which are the cows, truck and the driver, they were then brought to Gilimanuk Animal Quarantine to be investigated. From the information received, this smuggling action has been going for a long time and suspected an individual who manages it. The modus is to have one permit of cows’ distribution used by many people. When going to the harbor, two to three trucks go together and the one that brought the complete permits will be in the very front or the very back. When checked, the truck with all the documents showed it all and so the checkers did not check again from the other trucks as they thought all has been permitted. (120)

North Korea details nuclear program amid tension Reuters

SEOUL – Secretive North Korea detailed for the first time its expanded nuclear program on Tuesday, saying it had thousands of working centrifuges, as pressure built on China to rein in its ally amid tensions on the peninsula. Nuclear-armed Pyongyang’s revelations about its uranium enrichment, which gives it a second route to make a nuclear bomb, came a week after it fired an artillery barrage at a South Korean island, killing four people including two civilians. Experts have voiced surprise at the sophistication of a uranium enrichment plant and light-water reactor at the North’s main nuclear complex, which were shown to a U.S. scientist earlier this month. “Currently construction of a light-water reactor is in progress actively and a modern uranium enrichment plant equipped with several thousands of centrifuges, to secure the supply of fuels, is operating,” the Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported. “Nuclear energy development projects will become more active for peaceful purpose in the future,” added the paper, according the state news agency KCNA. North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests to date and is believed to have enough fissile material from its plutonium-based program to make between six and 12 bombs. LONDON – Prince Charles “does not command the same respect” as Queen Elizabeth II, a senior Commonwealth official said in a US cable released by WikiLeaks and published by the Guardian newspaper. Amitav Banerji, political affairs director at the Commonwealth secretariat, was quoted on the question of whether Charles would succeed his mother to the head of the 54-country organisation upon her death. According to the leaked memo from the US political officer in London, dated June 11, 2009, Banerji “acknowledged that heir-apparent to the British Crown, Prince Charles, does not ‘command the same respect’ as the Queen.” Banerji added “the Commonwealth was trying quietly to get him more involved in Commonwealth affairs”, the cable added. He had also pointed out that there was “no rule stipulating that the British monarch is the head (of the Commonwealth) and no procedure for selecting a new head.”

WASHINGTON – The United States said on Monday reports of “irregularities” in Egypt’s parliamentary elections raise questions about the “fairness and transparency” of the process. “We are disappointed by reports in the pre-election period of disruption of campaign activities of opposition candidates and arrests of their supporters, as well as denial of access to the media for some opposition voices,” U.S. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said. He added that Washington was “dismayed by reports of electionday interference and intimidation by security forces.” Official results in Sunday’s election are due on Tuesday. Opposition charges of ballot stuffing, bullying and other trickery marred the polls, but the Eygptian government said the balloting was fair.

The State Department said Egyptian confidence in the election outcome would occur when the government addresses “existing flaws” and ensures “full and transparent” access by independent monitors and candidate representatives. The outlawed but partly tolerated Muslim Brotherhood said on Monday a “rigged” election had all but wiped out its presence in parliament, virtually eliminating opposition to President Hosni Mubarak’s ruling party before next year’s presidential vote. Officials have indicated Mubarak, in power since 1981 and whose health has been under renewed scrutiny since gallbladder surgery in March, will seek a new term if able. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

BEIJING – A mad rush to the playground turned into a stampede that left dozens of elementary schoolchildren hurt and one in critical condition in western China, state media and officials said. Students at the No. 5 Elementary School in Aksu city were rushing downstairs for after-class exercises Monday when some students fell, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Other students then pushed to squeeze through the narrow stairway, trampling on those that had fallen. A guardrail also collapsed, sending some students falling into the stairwell, it said. CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – The Mexican army discovered several clandestine graves holding at least 20 bodies near a ranch in the northern border state of Chihuahua, authorities said Monday. Soldiers found the bodies of 19 men and one woman buried in 12 graves over the weekend in the town of Puerto Palomas, across from Columbus, New Mexico, and informed police so they could oversee excavations, Chihuahua state prosecutor Jorge Gonzalez said. Gonzalez said that the bodies had been buried between four and eight months and that it had not yet been determined how they were killed because they were badly decomposed. Earlier this month, the bodies of 18 men who were kidnapped in Acapulco where they had gone on vacation were found in a mass grave outside the resort city. An alleged drug trafficker arrested last week in Mexico City told police he ordered the killings after mistaking the men for members of a rival cartel. Also in Chihuahua state, gunmen in two trucks chased and killed the newly appointed female police chief of the town of Meoqui on Monday. a spokesman for the state attorney general’s office. No one was arrested and no suspects were named. Garcia became police chief Oct. 9 after a new mayor took office. Flights to Malang temporarily halted Antara

Jakarta - Airport authority Angkasa Pura II has halted temporarily all flights from Soekarno-Hatta internasional airport in Jakarta to Abdurrahman Saleh airport in Malang, East Java, as of Monday morning due to intensifying volcanic activities of Mount Bromo. Hari Cahyono, corporate secretary of the state airport management company, said on Monday that the decision for the temporary stopping of flights to Malang was based on the Notam (notice to airman) Number 00920/ 10 issued by Air Transport Directorate General, Transport Ministry, earlier in the day. As explained in the notam, Abdurrahman Saleh airport in Malang has been temporarily closed in relation with the condition of Mount Bromo which has been declared on alert status and spewing volcanic ashes to the air. A separate aerial monitoring of the volcano on Monday found that volcanic ashes spewed from inside the crater of the volcano had reached an altitude of 13,000 meters. Govt plans to ban private cars from using subsidized fuels Antara

Jakarta - The government plans to ban all private cars from using subsidized fuels as part of efforts to cut fuel subsidy. In its document made available on Monday, state oil and gas company Pertamina said the plan was approved at a meeting of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on Nov 23. The document is Pertamina‘s reply to questions raised at a hearing between the House of Representatives Commission VII and Pertamina President Director Karen Agustiawan on Monday. The Nov 23 meeting focused on two options to cut subsidized fuel consumption. The first option calls for the sale of subsidized fuels only to public vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles and three-wheeled vehicles, while the second option allows the sale of subsidized fuels only to public vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles, three-wheeled vehicles and vehicles produced before 2005. “The meeting decides to choose the first option,” the document said. The government will discuss the plan to limit the use of subsidized fuels with the House Commission VII later this week and hopes it can be implemented early next year. Pertamina has projected subsidized fuel consumption this year to reach 38.379 million kiloliters,

higher than the quota of 36.5 million kiloliters set in the revised 2010 state budget. The quota of subsidized kerosene is still available due to the kerosene-to-gas conversion program,” he said. Indonesia‘s fuel subsidy has been projected to reach around Rp89 trillion in 2010, more than 10 percent of the country‘s tax revenue. But he added that the rests had been vaccinated with 64,328 dosages of vaccine. Balinese Script: A Key to Open the Asset of Bali Balinese community also has written traditions. It is inseparable from the spread of Hinduism and Buddhism in Indonesia during the ninth to tenth centuries. At the time Devanagari and Pallawa script were widely used to perform written inscriptions immortalizing important events. Thanks to these two scripts that implanted important basic in the origin of Balinese script. And more specifically, how to make the publication written in Balinese language and script that can attract others (beyond Balinese community) to know and read it? Of course, it should feature something beneficial

for them. Up to these days, Balinese characters are only widely used in the writing of lontar (palm-leaf) manuscripts. Meanwhile, for commercial book, magazine or publication for public consumption is almost unavailable. Ideally, there are regular publications using the native language (basa Bali) and Balinese script (aksara Bali). By doing so, both can be used to express Balinese

culture and accommodate the needs of modern community. Through the media, both can feature relevant subject matter to modern living. On that account, the preservation will not stop at the competition of lontar inscription, writing of labels like the names of street in Denpasar, shop (along Jalan Gajah Mada), and board sign of government’s office, but keeps on meeting the demand of the users’ life.

In short, Balinese scripts (along with Balinese language) should be able to accommodate the needs of its users today. They are becoming both an icon of Balinese community and a medium to express the users’ mind, emotion and communication in wider context as other languages and scripts do. INGREDIENTS: 1 whole duck, weigh about 2 kg (4 ½ lb) 18 shallots, peeled, cut in half, and sliced 6 cloves garlic, peeled, cut in half, & sliced 3 stalks lemon grass, finely sliced 5 fragrant lime leaves, finely sliced 6 candlenuts, chopped 5 cm (2 in), ginger, peeled and chopped 8 cm (3in) fresh turmeric, peeled, chopped 8 cm (3in) kencur root, peeled, chopped 1 tsp black peppercorns, crushed 5 bird’s-eye chilies, slices 1 tsp coriander seeds, crushed 2 tsp dried shrimp paste, roasted and coarsely crushed 1½ tbsp salt 3 tbsp oil Banana leaves, greaseproof paper or aluminum foil for wrapping PREPARATION: Wipe the duck dry and set aside. Combine all ingredients except banana leafs in a bowl and mix well. Rub the duck outside with this mixture and fill the center of the duck with the remainder. Close open duck with satay skewer. Wrap in several layers of banana leaves, greaseproof paper or foil and steam for 50 minutes. Transfer duck to a moderate oven and bake at 180o C (350o F) for 30 minutes.

LONDON – U.S. shares were set for a lower open on Tuesday, as euro zone debt worries persisted, and ahead of key data that will indicate the strength of the recovery in the world’s biggest economy. At 0951 GMT, futures for the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq were down between 0.2 and 0.5 percent. The FTSEurofirst 300 (.FTEU3) index of leading European shares was up 0.1 percent, having hit its lowest close in nearly eight weeks in the previous session, as investors worried about sovereign debt levels in the euro zone peripheral countries. The euro skidded to 10-week lows against the dollar on Tuesday after a rescue package for Ireland failed to dampen speculation that other bailouts will be needed in the euro zone. The Conference Board’s index of consumer attitudes for September is expected to show a steady, if plodding improvement, with the average of 60 analysts Reuters polled calling for a rise to 52.6, from 50.2 in October and a revised 48.6 in September. U.S. consumer confidence has been

picking itself up from historically low levels, where it has been hostage to weak labor markets. Also due is the S&P Case Shiller report on prices in 20 major U.S. real estate markets, which is expected to show a 1.1 percent rise from a year ago. On a monthby-month basis though, prices are expected to have stayed soggy, slipping 0.3 percent the same rate of decline as was seen in August. U.S. stocks fell on Monday but finished well off their lows of the day as the dollar retraced some of its earlier gains and energy and financial stocks rallied late in the session. The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) dropped 0.4 percent; the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index (.SPX) fell 0.1 percent; the Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) lost 0.4 percent.

NEW DELHI – India’s economy grew a forecast-beating 8.9 percent year-on-year in July-September, data showed Tuesday, underscoring the country’s brisk recovery from the global financial crisis. The healthy numbers brought temporary cheer to the Congress-led government, buffeted by a string of scandals including a damaging telecom corruption scam which could have cost the public treasury up to 40 billion dollars. The robust growth, propelled by manufacturing, services and a revived farm sector, was significantly above market forecasts of 8.2 percent growth. The expansion came despite the rapid unwinding of massive fiscal and monetary stimulus steps taken in the last few years that helped shield the country of 1.2 billion people from the global slump. “These numbers are reassuring, especially with monetary and fiscal stimulus being withdrawn — it shows the resilience of this recovery,” D.K. Joshi, chief economist at ratings agency Crisil, told AFP. Adding to the good news for the government, first-quarter growth was revised upwards to 8.9 percent year-on-year from 8.8 percent, data from the Central Statistical Organisation showed. The South Asian country is the world’s second fastest-growing major economy, behind regional rival China, which logged growth of 9.6 percent year-onyear in the same three-month period.

Surging vehicle and other consumer product sales helped to power the strong Indian performance, which is underpinned by rising incomes and widening access to credit. “Private consumption growth of close to 10 percent is pretty close to a historic high,” Sujan Hajra, chief economist at Mumbai brokerage Anand Rathi Financial Services, told AFP. Manufacturing grew by 9.8 percent, construction grew by 8.8 percent while trade, hotels, transport and communication surged 12.1 percent. It seeks “inclusive growth” to embrace those left behind by India’s boom. The government expects the economy to expand 8.5 percent in the financial year to March 31, 2011, after growing by 7.4 percent last year. Economists said the economy appeared on track to beat that target. “The economy is poised to record its first annual expansion in excess of 8.5 percent since the global downturn as domestic demand continues to strengthen,” said Matt Robinson, senior economist at Moody’s Analytics. India’s finance secretary, Ashok Chawla, said the 1.3-trillion-dollar economy’s upturn was broad-based with all sectors recovering.

SINGAPORE – Oil prices rose to near $85 a barrel Monday in Asia as investors look to this week’s key jobs report for evidence the U.S. economy is improving. Benchmark oil for January delivery was up $1.20 to $84.96 a barrel at late afternoon Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell 10 cents to settle at $83.76 on Friday. Traders will be closely watching Friday’s unemployment numbers for signs more Americans are going back to work as the economy slowly recovers from last year’s recession. Crude advanced despite mixed dollar trading. The euro fell early in the session before recovering to $1.3278 after European Union nations agreed to give 67.5 billion euros ($89.4

billion) in bailout loans to Ireland on Sunday. Oil normally falls as the dollar strengthens since crude becomes more expensive for investors with other currencies. “Oil is possibly detaching further from the strong dollar while placing greater emphasis on increasing indications of favorable U.S. economic guidance,” Ritterbusch and Associates said in a report. “The important November employment report could prove pivotal in determining the course of the oil trade across December.” In other Nymex trading in December contracts, heating oil rose 2.4 cents to $2.34 a gallon and gasoline added 3 cents at $2.24 a gallon. Natural gas gained 3.6 cents to $4.44 per 1,000 cubic feet. In London, Brent crude jumped 90 cents to $86.48 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

They’ll put on a show, rather than just another awards ceremony, organizers say. The elephants, aged two to four years old, were found dead in an oil-palm plantation in a village in Riau province on Sumatra island on Friday, conservation agency official Edi Susanto said.

COLOMBO – Sri Lanka is to turn a vast jungle area that was a base for the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels into a wildlife sanctuary, 18 months after the end of island’s bloody civil war, the government said Tuesday. The jungles of Mullaittivu, from where the rebels launched attacks for decades until they were defeated by government troops last year, has been declared a safe haven for wild animals, the information department said.

“The wildlife sanctuary would be a solution for the conflict between the humans and elephants in the surrounding areas,” it said in a statement, adding the sanctuary would be about 100,000 acres (40,500 hectares). Spreading human settlement has left elephants short of habitat in Sri Lanka, with the animals often entering villages and farms looking for food. Sri Lanka’s elephant population has dwindled to about 4,000 from about 12,000 in 1900, according to wildlife officials.

But the Bucks couldn’t keep up with Utah’s inside game without big men Andrew Bogut and Drew Gooden. The Jazz held a 54-18 advantage in the paint and 48-26 edge in rebounds. They also had 10 blocked shots. On the flip side, Utah committed 20 turnovers. The Bucks were without Bogut (back), Gooden (foot) and Carlos Delfino (strained neck), three players who combined were averaging 35.6 points and 22.3 rebounds a game. Corey Maggette suited up for Milwaukee on Monday but was battling the flu and did not play for the Bucks, who instead relied on only nine players.

The lineup worked Saturday night against Carolina, but not against the hot Jazz, who were starting a six-game homestand. Andrei Kirilenko added 13 points and four blocks for Utah and Raja Bell scored 10 points. Utah shot 54.8 percent from the field. The Bucks relied heavily on 3point shooting (10 of 23) in an attempt to stay in the game, and led briefly in the second quarter. Utah opened the fourth quarter with a big run to the seal the win. The Jazz again got some big contributions from their bench, with Utah’s backup guards providing the first-half highlights. MADRID – Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who won three successive Grand Slam titles this year, said Monday that 2010 has been “fantastic”. “I think it has been a fantastic year in my life, to have ended at the level that I did is a great satisfaction,” he said during an interview with Spanish news radio Cadena Ser. The 24-year-old finished the year firmly atop the world rankings despite losing to Roger Federer in the ATP Tour Championship final in London on Sunday. “I can only congratulate Roger because he was better than everyone, better than me and for that reason he has the trophy at home,” he said. Nadal has 12,450 points, 3,305 ahead of Federer, whom he replaced at the top after winning the French Open and Wimbledon during the summer. He went on to win the US Open, while Federer took the year’s first Grand Slam title in Australia making him only the seventh man in history to complete a coveted career Grand Slam, winning the world’s four main tennis tournaments — the US, French and Australian Opens and Wimbledon.

Fred Couples expects Tiger Woods to bounce back Associated Press Writer SYDNEY – Golf great Fred Couples expects Tiger Woods to play better next year and revive interest in the PGA Tour. The 1992 Masters champion, in Sydney for this week’s Australian Open, said “when Tiger gets going again our tour will get going at a better rate.” Couples said the PGA Tour was “blessed” by Woods’ arrival 12 years ago, which boosted interest and sponsorship. He said it’s only a matter of time before Woods overcomes his technical and emotional issues and his play starts improving. Couples said Woods is still the same golfer he used to be, he just isn’t playing as well for “a lot of reasons.” “One would be his golf game but another would be a lot of emotions going on, a lot of tough times,” Couples said. Woods has gone more than a year without winning a tournament, following the November 2009 SUV crash that led to allegations of infidelity. His wife later divorced him. Woods also sat out for nearly five months, including two months in a rehabilitation clinic, and changed swing coaches.

Massa denies 2011 is ‘make or break’ FELIPE Massa has denied that he is under any pressure to restore his reputation in 2011, despite his difficult 2010 season, and pointed out that he had held on to his Ferrari drive for five years despite regular rumours about his future. The Brazilian was overshadowed by his new team-mate Fernando Alonso this year, finishing 108 points behind the Spaniard in the standings. With 2009 having been spoilt by Ferrari’s lack of competitiveness and his head injury, Massa has now gone over two years without a race win. Earlier this season he was re-signed through 2012, despite speculation that other drivers were being considered as replacements, but rumours that his seat was under threat continued to linger. However Massa said at today’s Ferrari World Finals event at Valencia that he was relaxed about his situation. “I don’t think 2011 signifies a crucial year for me,” he insisted. “Fundamentally, I have been in this situation often. “I remember that at the start of 2006, many people said I would only last a year at Ferrari and then I won races that season and

Solberg stars in Oslo event Petter Solberg once again performed to a sell-out crowd at his Solberg Extreme Motorshow in Oslo last weekend. Solberg was joined by his brother Henning and numerous other World Rally Championship stars, including Dani Sordo and Mikko Hirvonen for the Race of Champions-style event.
