dire

Before another sunrise wakes me,

Before another night is gone

I’ll find out where this highway takes me

You know I’ve got to travel on.

Left my troubles all behind me

Back there when I climbed on board

Jordan river’s where you’ll find me

It’s wide but not too wide to ford

And as I’m going along, I carry with me

Promises that can’t go wrong

As I travel on my way.

This core anthem puts into words why we are presenting Violet and why we did when it debuted here in 1999. This song of hope, moving forward, and the faith that promises can’t go wrong is the heart of Ensemble Theatre and is a perfect way to close our 30th Anniversary season and set the stage for what’s next.

For thirty years, standing its ground on Vine Street no matter what the external forces, ETC has moved our region forward with new work, always seeking what was next. Now, as we embark on our Next Stage Campaign providing greater ease of access and the capacity to producing year round, Violet yet again takes our stage. Violet was and is a turning point for ETC. The cast you see before you consists of those embarking on their career and others who have grown up on our stage. Violet embodies ETC’s commitment to continually recreate itself, to remain constant to the road leading towards a stronger community and a celebration of the art form.

The last line of Violet is a question. “Will you bring me to light?” Along with my sincere gratitude for your taking this journey with us, I ask you to stay the course as we travel on our way. I leave you with my promise that, with your help, the road ahead will lead us all to an extraordinary destination of the spirit. Healing, hope, faith, and love await us all. Thank you for putting tires on the bus.
