"gripping...presents a convincing portrait." – New York Times named one of the best plays of the year by london's The Guardian

“Love is, the journey from your head to your heart.” This refrain is heard over and over again in our production of Cinderella. The core message is that we need to connect within ourselves what we know and what we feel.
In many incarnations of Cinderella, the beauty of Cinderella was sincere as to her character and her appearance. Our Cinderella wears converse shoes, glasses, and loves hanging out in the garden with a toad, a spider, and a crow. She is not on the path to becoming a princess. I love the connective phrase of “the essence of true beauty lies, beyond what’s seen by normal eyes,” which both Cinderella and Prince Freddy find fascinating. They begin to live that mantra without even knowing it. Bespeckaled and book-bound, the two of them need to learn to look with their heart as they connect with their mind’s eye.
ETC breathes that same mantra daily. We saw beauty in Over-the-Rhine before many of our now neighbors did. We rejoiced in presenting new work in an historic building and gradually with patience and tenacity, claimed 40% of this Vine Street block. Like Cinderella we were not tempted by fashionable glass. Instead of replacing we are repairing and living in these spaces, which hold a historical heart. It’s not easy, but it is beautiful. Where we are is who we are.
Every show in our 30th anniversary season was selected for a specific reason. Cinderella tells us it is necessary to make good decisions, good choices and if one does so, a little bit of magic will find us. We find the energy to change from inside ourselves. And change ETC has. We have become the theatre we are today by building on our strengths and attracting audiences like you, who make our visions a reality. You make magic happen with your presence. We are still on the journey, that’s part of the joy. With any luck, the journey never ends.
A non-denominational, multi-generational musical for the holidays brings together families and friends to celebrate tradition and make some new ones within these walls. It’s no secret that it is my favorite time of year. From the 1,200 children who will see this show through the Fairy Godmother program, to the over 1,200 people who will see this show each week of its run, the power of people sharing this tale of inner beauty is palpable.
I thank you for making us part of your holiday season and wish you great joy in the New Year. May every step you take be a journey of the heart and may every day be beautiful. I wish you well!
-D. Lynn Meyers, Director

Reservations can be made by calling the box office, in person, or online. Ticket reservations are not accepted via email. Single-ticket purchases are a final sale with no refund. Single tickets may, however, be exchanged for another performance during the run of a show for a fee, but may not be exchanged from one production to another. If a patron is a no-show for their reserved performance, ETC is under no obligation to reschedule his or her tickets.
TA x c RED i TS
If for any reason you cannot attend your performance and cannot reschedule for another date, tickets released prior to performances by calling the ETC box office are fully deductible as a charitable contribution. No-shows or tickets released after curtain time do not qualify as tax credits.
