On June 29, 2012 Tray Franklin, age 20, was fatally shot at the corner of Sutter and Ralph Avenues in Brownsville, Brooklyn. His name did not even make the paper when his death was reported that day; instead the story read: "13 Men Shot as Gunfire Erupts Across the City." Tray Franklin was one of thousands of young men who senselessly lost his life and has only been tallied as a statistic by our society.
Headlines tell of violence on our streets daily; often there will be a body count posted of those victims, various cities will be listed, and the number of violent deaths listed as accurate, sterile data—emotionless text on a screen. But, the next time you hear a name mentioned in passing or, worse, another stark homicide statistic reported about our city or nation, stop for a moment and think of those left behind by these deaths and the loss our community suffers.
We are a nation losing citizens and future generations daily—whether taken either by anger, sport, or simply by accident. Lives end on the streets daily, but our awareness, our compassion, and our empathy must endure. We can not allow our hope of creating a world that embodies the promise of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" to be extinguished. Nothing about life is casual. Tray Franklin was cherished and he made our world better by his presence.
brownsville song (b-side for tray) is a play that brings Tray Franklin's story to life, and the countless others like him. The B side of a cassette or record consisted of songs that typically did not get air play, so it's appropriate that Kimber Lee has chosen to add this to the title of her play. Tray's life mattered. So, let us play the B side. Let us hear, and honor, his entire story.

DEBORAH I. BROCK-BLANKS (Lena) is honored to be back on the Ensemble Theatre stage involved in such a riveting production. She has appeared in several ETC productions such as Intimate Apparel, Praying for Rain, A Lesson Before Dying, and The Exonerated. Ms. Brock-Blanks has an extensive background as a dancer, choreographer, actress, and writer and has directed several regional productions. Her credits include film, stage, and television. She is an early member of Free Theatre, the oldest incorporated Black theatre company in Cincinnati. She is a Youth Work Methods Specialist and a Wellness Consultant. She would like to thank her family and the youth who have sacrificed and provided foundation and inspiration for the life-blood of this role.

LISSA URRIQUIA GAPULTOS (Merrell) makes her debut on ETC’s stage, and would like to thank Lynn for the opportunity to be part of this important production. She is a past board president of Know Theatre of Cincinnati, and a Stage Insights contributor for the League of Cincinnati Theatres. She has also worked onstage with several local theatres. Some of her favorite productions: Pacific Overtures, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park; Prelude to a Kiss, The Eight: Reindeer Monologues, and The Afghan Women’s Writing Project, Know Theatre of Cincinnati; and A Piece of My Heart, Drama Workshop. At that expo was a Vice President from one of the top childrens talent agencies in Los Angeles, the Osbrink Agency. Osbrink signed both Ms. Johnson and her brother that summer. Since then, the family splits their time between LA and Cincinnati. After performing in A Christmas Carol with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park last year, she realized her heart is in theatre. Ms. Johnson spends her free time sketching, solving puzzles, and playing outside with her brother. Her next performance will be a return to her role at the Playhouse this upcoming holiday season.

CHAUNCEY RAGLAND (Junior/Brooklyn College Student) is a sophomore at the University of Cincinnati. Currently, he is undecided on paper, but knows that he would like to be an engineer. Mr. Ragland got his first hint of theatre during his junior year of high school when he met Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati's Director of Education and Outreach, Ben Raanan, through the theatre's Prelude Program. Ever since, he has been itching to get on stage again. He loves food and being happy, you'll see him smiling often!

KAMERON RICHARDSON (Tray) is a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati–College Conservatory of Music's BFA Musical Theatre program, and is honored to make his Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati debut. ETC BOX OFFICE HOURS & ACCEPTED PAYMENT
Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 2 hours prior to curtain. Weekend hours vary. VISA, MC, Discover, and AmEx are accepted, as well as Downtown Gift Cards.
Reservations can be made by calling the box office, in person, or online. Ticket reservations are not accepted via email. Single-ticket purchases are a final sale with no refund. Single tickets may, however, be exchanged for another performance during the run of a show for a fee, but may not be exchanged from one production to another. If a patron is a no-show for their reserved performance, ETC is under no obligation to reschedule his or her tickets.
If for any reason you cannot attend your performance and cannot reschedule for another date, tickets released prior to performances by calling the ETC box office are fully deductible as a charitable contribution. No-shows or tickets released after curtain time do not qualify as tax credits.
PARKING
Patrons may park at the Gateway Garage (accessible via 12th Street) or at the surface lot, both are conveniently located at the corner of Vine and 12th Streets. Parking is also available at Washington Park Garage and Mercer Commons Garage.
Children under the age of 4 will not be admitted to productions unless otherwise advertised. Parents with disruptive children will be asked to leave the theatre.
Latecomers will be seated at the House Manager’s discretion and may be denied admission depending upon the demands or structure of a particular production. Should you need to leave the theatre during a performance, readmittance is not guaranteed. ETC reserves the right to deny admission and/or remove any disruptive patrons from the theatre at any time.
RESTROOMS
Restrooms are located at the front of the lobby. Should you need to use the restroom during a performance, please exit the theatre the same way you came in. Readmittance will be at House Manager's discretion.
ACCESSIBILITY
Please notify the box office in advance if you require wheelchair-accessible seating or have special seating needs and our staff will be happy to accommodate you. Audio-enhancement available. Generally, signinterpreted performances are on the third Wednesday of every production.
Actors’ Equity Association strictly prohibits the use of cameras or recording devices (including camera phones) in the theatre. Kindly turn off any cell phones or pagers prior to the show starting. Text messaging during the show disturbs other audience members and actors and will not be tolerated. For safety reasons, audience members are strictly prohibited from standing, sitting or otherwise being or putting anything onstage at any time.
GROUPS & DISCOUNTS
Groups of 8 or more can save over single-ticket prices. Student rates, rush discounts, Public Radio Perks Card, AAA, ArtsWave ArtsPass, Enjoy the Arts, and educator and military member discounts available (please consult your appropriate membership(s) for details and exclusions).
Remaining focused on the long term. OR
Medically speaking, checking one’s reflexes is an important test of the nervous system. However, in our overly deliberate opinion, the doctor’s office is the only place where knee-jerk reactions should be considered a positive. Especially when it comes to investing. We realize that it’s only natural to want to react impulsively to a down day or two, but we believe remaining steadfast is the more prudent financial decision. And while there is a time and place to take action, it should be done thoughtfully. As opposed to rapidly. Which is why every Holding
Raymond James advisor employs a slow and steady approach to financial planning. It’s a rigorously thorough process in which every decision is made with the long term in mind. When you sit down with a Raymond James financial advisor, they will take the time to tailor a plan just for you. And help you stick to it during the ups. And downs. For over 50 years, our advisors have quietly served clients differently. Go to lifewellplanned.com to learn more. It’s time to find out what a Raymond James financial advisor can do for you. LIFE WELL PLANNED.
