Meters, Rollers, and Tuning Rings for John Deere Air Seeders
Use the low meter roller for seeds such as flax, canola, and alfalfa. The medium roller is best when planting wheat, barley, canola, and small soybeans up to 1/4 inch in diameter and with medium rates of fertilizer. The high rate roller is for high rates of fertilizer and large soybeans bigger than 1/4 inch in diameter. The very high rate roller is best used when planting barley and oats with beards, large seeds such as garbanzo beans, and with very high fertilizer rates. Fine tuning rings reduce the amount of product available to meter for increased accuracy.

25-wave 0.63 in (16 mm): Creates extremely fine tilth area about 7/8-in. wide. Works well on wet, spongy soil that can be tight and difficult for proper furrow closing.
13-wave 0.7 in (17.78 mm): Tills an area about 1-in. wide at speeds under 6 mph (9.65 km/h). Gives more aggressive soil disruption at slower speeds. Fractures the soil more, opening a wider slot of fine tilth.

Residue Shield Kit
Cotton field residue in the seed meters can cause issues with singulation and spacing. This kit provides shielding around the opening of the ExactEmerge row-unit cartridge to prevent the BrushBelt™ system from being exposed to field residue. This helps to reduce uptake of residue into the meter, keeping the seed pool and BrushBelt system clean for improved meter performance.

BrushBelt™ Tech Tip:
To prevent a BrushBelt malfunction, do not apply fertilizer directly in the seed furrow near the front of the BrushBelt. To dry the BrushBelts before planting in wet conditions, perform a meter runoff. (See the SeedStar Application Help for the Runoff procedure.) Periodically clean the seed sensor area inside the BrushBelt. Dusty conditions or heavily treated seeds cause an excessive buildup of dust and seed treatment inside the BrushBelt, which blocks the seed sensor. When the seed sensor becomes blocked, false low population counts or false low limit warnings appear.
Double Eliminator Tech Tip:
Degraded meter performance, like multiple seed placement, is an indicator of possible inner or outer double eliminator wear. Check the inner and outer double eliminators (A) for wear. Check the inner and outer tines for uniform length and diameter. If the length of the outer double eliminator measures less than 8mm (0.315 inches) from the base time or brush to the tip and the meter performance is degraded, replace it. If the diameters of inner adjustable double eliminator tines are worn to less than 1/2 the original diameter and the meter performance is degraded, replace it.

Notched Frame Mounted Fertilizer Opener Blade
In certain loose, sandy soil conditions, it is possible for the frame mounted fertilizer opener to plug with soil or pebbles between the scraper and the blade. Once this happens, the blade can no longer turn, causing it to bulldoze the soil, rather than to cut the furrow for the fertilizer to be placed. In this situation, a notched opener blade can help to overcome the issue. The notches in the blade help to create additional friction between the blade and soil, creating enough torque to keep the blade turning, even when soil or other debris has built up between the scraper and the blade.

A work driven assembly will potentially reduce the expected life of a new driver when only one is replaced. Hydraulic Pump Upgrades for 8000–8030 Series Row Crop Tractors
Upgrade today for increased efficiencies and capabilities. New implements such as air seeders, tillage equipment, and planters may require more hydraulic flow to perform effectively. If your current planter raise and lower times are too slow — or you are using a system with three or more vacuum motors — increased hydraulic flow may improve performance.

Hydraulic quick disconnect couplers are available in both standard and deluxe versions. The standard couplers allow coupling and uncoupling of hydraulics with pressure from the implement side, while deluxe couplers provide tractor and/or implement side coupling/uncoupling. Replace damper as recommended to avoid costly repairs such as potential crankshaft breakage or front engine cover damage.

Important Repair Note:
• When required use new cap screws when installing the damper to the crankshaft and fan pulley to damper.
• Damper can be damaged by dropping it or striking it with a hammer during installation. Use the proper procedure and tools listed in the technical manual.
Did you know your crankshaft damper has a service life? When torque is applied, engines generate harmful vibrations. A damper reduces these vibrations, which extends belt life and reduces gear wear. Our engine damper consists of an inertia ring, elastic member, and hub assembly attached to the crankshaft. John Deere recommends changing the crankshaft damper at 4,000 to 5,000 hours or 5 years, whichever comes first in some applications. Contact us to see if your crankshaft damper needs replacing today.

Flowmeters are a critical part of the sprayer and require regular cleaning. Flowmeters that are not maintained and cleaned at regular intervals can give erratic readings, affecting the application rate.
To avoid damage to flowmeters and prevent possible chemical application rate issues:
• Flush the solution system daily as described in Operator’s Manual with clean water
• Remove flowmeters as required and clean the turbine and bearing area with TY26101 John Deere Brake and Parts Cleaner
• Properly clean and winterize solution system when preparing machine for storage (See the Storage section of the Operator’s Manual for procedure)
