Suddenly, there was a noise. ‘Meow!’

Mum smiled, ‘Clean and tidy your room now, please!’

I took a shower and got dressed, then I went to my bedroom. It was very messy! There were pencils on the floor, books on the bed and one pink sock on the lamp!

‘This is boring!’ I said. Then I slowly picked up all my things.

‘What?!’ I said, and an animal jumped out. It was a little cat, with beautiful big brown eyes. ‘Surprise! Happy Birthday!’ my family shouted. They were behind the door, and they all smiled at me. ‘We adopted this cat,’ Mum said. ‘It’s your birthday present!’ ‘Thank you!’ I said.

There was a big smile on my face again. The cat sat in my arms. ‘Hello, beautiful!’ I said.

inspired by Lev, 11, Russia She shouts, ‘Wait! Please don’t take our home!’

ge

The singing snails live in a big green castle. Their home is perfect. The snails eat the walls, then they sing and the walls grow back.

‘Your home?’ says the clown. ‘I’m sorry. I just wanted something amazing for my circus.’

U

Lizi has an idea. ‘Maybe we can help,’ she says. ‘Shall we come and sing in your circus?’

As d an s le es sa Pr r y fo it t rs no ve y ni p

One day, the snails hear a clown walking through the forest. He sits by their castle, crying.

Co

‘The people hate my circus … wahhhhh! They think it’s boring … wahhhhh!’ The snails feel scared, so they hide. Then the clown sees the castle.

‘People would like to see this!’ he says. ‘Shall I take it for my circus?’

None of the snails move … then Lizi, the smallest snail, crawls forward.

The clown agrees, and that afternoon the snails’ beautiful songs amaze everyone. The people laugh and clap. After the show, the clown carries the snails to their castle. Now the snails sing every week and the circus is full of happy faces. The snails are happy, too. They have their amazing castle, an exciting job and a new friend. And all thanks to Lizi, the smallest – and the bravest – singing snail.

Fred looked worried. This evening, he wanted to write a story for his English homework, but he didn’t have any ideas, yet. ‘A babysitter?’ he asked. ‘You’d like me to look after your little sisters?’ ‘That’s right!’ said Emma. ‘Pleeease?’ ‘Well … OK.’ ‘You’re the best, Fred! See you at six!’ At six o’clock, Fred went to Emma’s house. ‘These are my sisters – Helen, Ella and Belle! Goodbye!’ Emma said, then ran out of the front door. ‘Err … hello!’ said Fred to the three little people in front of him. ‘I’m hungry. I’d like my dinner!’ said Helen. ‘I’m bored.
