The Giant Company is supporting the Salvation Army ’s holiday hunger relief programs by donating $5,000 to 12 Salvation Army locations for a total donation of $60,000. Recipient Salvation Army locations include Boyertown, Carlisle, Chambersburg, East Stroudsburg, Har r isburg , L ancaster, Lebanon, Levittown, Norristown, Philadelphia, and Sunbury in Pennsylvania, as well as the Winchester, Va. location. HARTZ PT Presents Donation to Milagro House HARTZ Physical Therapy (PT) recently presented a check for $17,000 to Milagro House, a local nonprofit that provides safe housing and supportive services to women and children in crisis. T he money was the result of HARTZ PT ’s 22nd annual Fall Blast 5K Run, Walk and Kids Color Run, which was held Oct. 4 at John R. Bonfield Elementary School in Lititz. The event drew hundreds of runners, walkers and supporters from across Lancaster County. Through the HARTZ PT Charitable Organization, founded in 2020, HARTZ PT spends an average of 50 volunteer hours and contributes more than $1,000 per employee in support of local charities each year. To date, the
company has raised more than $386,500 by planning various charitable events, including an April food drive to benefit a Power Packs Project called Feed the Need and its annual Spring Swing golf tournament. A Wo m a n ’s C o n ce r n (AWC) recently received a new ultrasound machine, made possible through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus and the support of many donors. The fundraising campaign surpassed its goal, enabling AWC to also secure an extended warranty for the piece of equipment. The Knights of Columbus provided the center’s first ultrasound machine in Pennsylvania 25 years ago. Jill Hartman, executive director of AWC, emphasized that ultrasound technology plays an essential role in supporting women’s health. The new machine strengthens AWC ’s mission to support both

1719 Museum Plans Candlelit Event T he 1719 Museum, 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street, will host a candlelit evening of stories and songs on Friday, Jan. 9. Guests will experience traditions passed down through generations among Lancaster County’s Indigenous and Mennonite communities. Tours will run every half hour starting at 4 p.m., with the final tour slot at 8 p.m. Guests will spend 30 m i nu te s i n t he L a ncaster Longhouse and 30 minutes in the Herr House. In the Lancaster Longhouse, musicians will play and tell stories about the Indigenous flute. The Lancaster County Conservation District held a gala at Moonstone Manor in Elizabethtown on Sept. 25 to celebrate 75 years of conservation efforts in Lancaster County. For 75 years, volunteers and district staff have worked with landowners and communities to care for natural and a g r i c u l t u ra l re s o u rce s in local watersheds that have a direct impact on the Chesapeake Bay. In 1950, Lancaster County commissioners approved
establishing a countywide conser vation district, ini t i ally work ing w i th farmers to maintain soils and installing sustainable conser vation practices like field contour strips, cattle crossings, streambank fencing, and no-till planting practices. Today, t h e d i s t r i c t ’s m i s s i o n remains to promote the stewardship of natural resources for Lancaster County and beyond. Dan Lynch, former Pennsylvania Game Commission educator, hosted
the program, and Commissioner Ray D’Agostino shared remarks and presented a proclamation on behalf of the Lancaster County commissioners. Other speakers at the celebration included Sonia Wa s c o , d i s t r i c t b o a rd chair; Chris Thompson, district administrator; Jill Whitcomb, Pennsylvania Deputy Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Water Programs; Doug Wolfgang, the executive secretary of the State Con-
ser vation Commission; Don McNutt, former district administrator; Jim Caldwell, Rettew Associates; Matt Kofroth, assistant distr ict manager ; a n d Da n Z i m m e r m a n , district associate director. Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russ Redding closed out the program, and the evening ended w i t h a to a s t b y C h r i s Thompson, recognizing the district’s strong reputation for high-quality service and opportunities for the future.

Some theme parks are still open after hosting holiday-centric special events. Crowds may be small on New Year’s Day, ensuring ride enthusiasts can ride their favorite coasters multiple times. New Year’s Day doesn’t need to be all about headaches and sleeping in. Spending time outdoors is a fresh way to enjoy the start of a new year.

This year’s theme is “Celebrate America250 - Keep It Beautiful!” in support of the country’s 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade will make a poster, those in fifth grade will write an essay, and those in sixth grade will make a video. The deadline for participating is Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026. T he first- and second-place winners in each grade level will be awarded certificates. All participants will receive recognition of participation with a Litter Hawk sticker. Winners will be announced on Saturday, April 2, 2026, in coordi-
nation with an awards ceremony at the Pennsylvania State Capitol, where all winning entries will be on display as part of the 2026 Litter Hawk Youth Award exhibit. All winners and their families, guardians, and teachers are welcome to attend. Special guests will include representatives from the Pe n n s y l v a n i a D e p a r t ment of Environmental P ro t e c t i o n ( DE P ) a n d America250PA.
