CoJoMotion Recital at LMS Is Wish Come True

Give a kid a stage and she or he will perform for a day. Teach a kid to dance and she or he will perform for a lifetime.

Give a dancer a cause for which to perform and you’ve got “A Season for Wishes.”

“You focus on teaching proper dance and proper technique, but also how to perform,” said Lisa Kalinowski, the founder and artistic director of Lititz Academy of Dance. “We liken it to dancing from the inside out and dancing with your heart, and that can be a process. When you do it, it becomes so much more fun and so much more free.”

prior to the event at https://tinyurl.com/4xd ps66w or at the door the day of the performance. All proceeds from “A Season for Wishes” will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Philadelphia, Delaware and the Susquehanna Valley.

CoJoMotion Dance Company will present this year’s edition of its annual holiday recital, “A Season for Wishes,” at 6 p.m. on Saturday,

Dec. 13, at Lancaster Mennonite School’s High Fine Arts Center, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. Tickets can be purchased

“I love Christmas, I love dance, and I love this charity,” said Kalinowski. “Seeing the transformation of these kids and what it means to them is amazing. To see them giving it their all is incredible. When the senior girls bring the big check on stage and reveal how much we’ve made, the kids are sobbing and crying. To see what it means to them, I can’t even tell you what it does to my heart.”

Bob Courtois’ personal specialty is his peanut butter cookies. But he also bakes a scrumptious white chocolate cranberry cookie that can postpone a diet.

Bob’s wife, Patti Courtois, is the publicity coordinator for St. Peter’s Church’s upcoming fundraiser.

“Bob’s peanut butter cookies are his best,” said Patti. “He’ll top them

with a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup or a Buckeye. His recipe is a family recipe, and it’s been handed down. He always says his special ingredient is love.”

Bob’s peanut butter and white chocolate cranberry flavors will be just two of an assortment of cookies baked with love available at this year’s edition of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church’s annual Cookie Walk. The community event

and holiday fundraiser will take place in the church’s Family Life Center at 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The holiday cookies can be mixed or matched and taken home in small or large containers, and the cookies will be made available for sale on a cash-only basis. All proceeds from the event will benefit orphans at Busoka Lutheran

tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, musical theater and Rockette style - “A Season for Wishes” will take about 150 minutes to perform. During a 20-minute intermission, this year’s amount raised for MakeA-Wish Foundation will be unveiled.

“It’s the most beautiful, joyous and heartwarming kickoff to the holidays possible,” said Kalinowski. “There’s beautiful dance, beautiful singing and heartwarming stories from families who have been touched by Make-A-Wish. Sometimes it’s pure joy; sometimes there’s not a dry eye in the audience. It’s the gamut of emotions. We always have Make-A-Wish families speak.”

More than 40 dancers from Lititz Academy of Dance’s CoJoMotion Dance Company will perform at “A Season for Wishes.” The performers range in age from 11 to 18 and attend school at Warwick, Manheim Township, Conestoga Valley, Manheim Central, Hempfield, Lancaster Country Day and Lancaster County Christian School, and some are homeschooled.

“They’re my dance daughters,” said Kalinowski. “That’s what I call them. They’re beautiful souls who love what they do and love everything about this show and why they do it. They’re very talented. We have many alumni who go on to be dance majors,

dance minors and on college dance teams, professional dancers and dance teachers. We want them to be properly prepared for whatever their dance goals are. We also have doctors, teachers, mommies and spouses we are just as proud of. I am very, very blessed to be close to kids I taught decades ago.”

Organizers of “A Season for Wishes” are hoping to make as much as $50,000 from the fundraiser. In its initial two decades of staging the performance, CoJoMotion Dance Company has generated more than $572,000 for the regional nonprofit.

“What all this money goes to is making wishes come true for kids and families

who need them so much,” said Kalinowski. “It’s trips and all kinds of amazing wishes like being a policeman for a day or being a superhero for a day. What an honor to be part of it.”

Located at 620 Paxton Place, Lititz, Lititz Academy of Dance was founded in 2001, a few years before “A Season for Wishes” was established as a way for the organization to give back to the community. While “A Season for Wishes” has evolved into CoJoMotion’s signature event, the dance company also performs four or five other times publicly throughout the year at various venues. ENB Announces Letters to Santa Contest

Ephrata National Bank (ENB) has announced the three finalists for its fifth annual Letters to Santa Contest, an initiative created to support and celebrate the nonprofit organizations making a meaningful difference across the communities ENB serves.

Each year, Letters to Santa invites community members to nominate their favorite 501(c)(3) organizations by submitting a letter describing the impact the organization has on the lives of others.

Entries include stories of hope, service, education and support, reflecting the many ways nonprofits strengthen Lancaster, Lebanon and Berks counties.

After receiving and reviewing the first 50 eli -

gible submissions, ENB’s internal judging committee evaluated entries based on story impact and the potential impact of a financial gift.

The first entry that has been selected as one of this year’s finalists is One Luv Outreach. Based in Reading, the nonprofit aims to bring “love and light” to the community through weekly family-friendly gatherings and weekly distributions of essentials, including food, clothing, toiletries and toys. The outreach is rooted in Christian faith and emphasizes sharing hope through the Gospel.

The second finalist is Milagro House. Located in Lancaster, Milagro House empowers women with children who are experienc-

Blood Drive Set at Fairmount

The Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank (CPBB) will hold a community blood drive at Fairmount in Ephrata on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The blood drive will be held in the Crest View Gathering Room at 1100 Farm Crest Drive on the east side of the Fairmount campus.

Those who wish to donate may schedule an appointment by calling

800-771-0059. Walk-ins are welcome until 6 p.m., but those with scheduled appointments will be given priority. Donors should bring a photo ID. All donors will receive various gift certificates and gift cards and a T-shirt.

ing homelessness through a holistic, two-generational model. Its core programs include residential housing, education, life-skills training and intensive case management. Since education is central, Milagro House supports mothers working on their GED or pursuing postsecondary education to break the cycle of poverty.

Green Meadow Farm in Leola is the third finalist. The farm provides free, individualized mentoring and equine-assisted lessons to children and teens who have experienced trauma or emotional hardship. Through interaction with horses and farm life, the organization aims to bring healing, trust, responsibility and renewal, all grounded in Christian faith.

Community members are encouraged to visit the ENB Letters to Santa Contest Page at https:// santa.epnb.com to read the finalists’ letters, view accompanying photos and cast their vote for the organization they believe deserves a special holiday gift. Public voting will remain open through Monday, Dec. 8, and the organization receiving the highest number of votes will be named the first prize winner.

This year’s prizes are $15,000, first place; $5,000, second place; and $3,000, third place.

Winners will be notified on Tuesday, Dec. 9, and an official announcement will be shared on ENB’s social media channels by early January 2026.

280,000 Eggs

Sauder’s Eggs, a family-owned business based in Lititz and a supplier of farm-fresh eggs across the Northeast, has donated 23,400 dozen eggs - totaling over 280,000 eggs - to local organizations that support families facing food insecurity. The donation will directly assist families struggling with food insecurity throughout Lancaster and Lebanon counties. Blessings of Hope, Lancaster Food Hub and Lebanon County Christian Ministries each received a significant delivery

of Sauder’s Eggs. The organizations will distribute the eggs to more than 73,000 community members in Lancaster and Lebanon counties. This effort continues Sauder’s long tradition of supporting the communities where its employees live and work. Founded more than 80 years ago, Sauder’s Eggs is one of the nation’s top egg wholesalers, partnering with approximately 120 farms and processing around 1.5 billion eggs per year. Women’s Group To Meet

Women of all ages and preschool children are invited to attend Neighbors Sharing and Caring, a women’s ministry of the Chiques Church, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Paulette Teague will speak about “Transforming Trials Into Triumphs of Faith.” She will share the journey of how her family’s faith was tested and strengthened through the challenges of raising a child with a severe intellectual disability. She will highlight how God redeemed devastating circumstances into a testimony of His grace and goodness, leading to a life of purpose and a ministry, Jessica and Friends Community, that provides faith-based services for individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities.

Paulette and her husband, Peter, have both worked in different levels of the education field. They have co-authored a book sharing their journey with Jessica and God’s faithfulness, “Jessica’s Story - But God,” published in 2023. Paulette also ministered in various roles alongside her husband as he served as president of Lancaster Bible College for 21 years. The couple has four

children and 10 grandchildren. During the program, child care will be provided for infants through prekindergartners. Readers may contact Bonnie at 717-361-2613 or Veronica at 717-626-7603 for more information and a copy of this year’s schedule.

OMPH Students Learn About Saints

Fourth-grade students at Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMPH) School in Ephrata honored the saints who have gone before them with a presentation to the school community and families on Oct. 31. Each student, under the direction of teacher Jennifer Dodson, chose and researched the life of a saint. On Oct. 31, students dressed in costume and told the story of their chosen saint’s life to their schoolmates and the parishioners in attendance. The presentations provided historical

information about figures such as St. Monica, St. Patrick, St. Juan Diego, and St. Philomena.

OMPH is a Catholic preschool, elementary school, and middle school. It welcomes children of all faiths who seek an education focused on reverence, respect, and responsibility. OMPH School is accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary Schools. For more information, call 717-738-2414 or visit www .omphschool.com.

Dine, Sing and Celebrate at Ruhl’s Church

Encouraging people to come to a Community Christmas Dinner at Ruhl’s Church, volunteer Kris Gray said the festivities will include great food and an opportunity to join in Christmas caroling after the meal.

“Bring your friends and family!” she said. “It is a delicious free meal and is open to all.”

The meal will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at Ruhl’s Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim.

The menu will feature baked ham, baked potatoes, green beans, rolls and dessert.

Ruhl’s Church began hosting the event 10 years ago.

“We wanted to include people who were not able to join us for Christmas Eve ser-

vice, so in 2015, we started a free sit-down ham dinner,” Gray shared. “We continued hosting the event for several years until the pandemic hit and we changed to a drivethrough event.”

The drive-through meal was very well received. It also included a “Drive to Bethlehem,” featuring scenes from the Christmas story. It continued in that fashion through 2023, but the church members realized they missed the connection they experienced with a sit-down meal.

“Last year, we decided to host a more personal dine-in event so we could enjoy some sweet fellowship with members of our community,” she explained. “Everyone who attended said they enjoyed the event because it gave them a chance to slow down and enjoy a great

meal with friends.”

The event is much more than a meal for the church members, she said.

“Our congregation wants to extend hospitality to our community as we share the joy of the Christmas season,” Gray explained. “We want people to know the real meaning of Christmas and how it can bring lasting joy and hope in this troubled world.”

Along with the Christmas meal, Ruhl’s Church mem -

bers invite the community to attend a Christmas Eve service. The candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Ruhl’s Church is handicapped-accessible, and parking is available in a large lot. Reservations are required to attend the Christmas dinner and must be made by Sunday, Dec. 7. To make a reservation, call 717-665-4499 and leave a message if there is no answer.

Church in Tanzania, St. Peter’s companion congregation in Africa.

“You have to be able to

close the lids on the boxes,” said Patti. “One of the (Tanzania Mission Committee) members will talk about why we’re there. It’s kind of a coming together of community members and the congregation. People wear festive clothing, and everyone is very upbeat. Sometimes, Santa Claus makes a surprise visit. Rumor has it that he will be there this year.”

In addition to Bob’s special homemade and handmade treats, the Cookie Walk will feature sand tarts, sugar cookies, gingerbread, jacked-up chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles and chocolate-covered Oreo Mint cookies, as well as a table full of gluten-free offerings. The cookies are displayed on trays and arranged on tables set up in rectangles to assure a good flow and maximum cookie visibility.

Careful confectionary consideration is advised.

“The ones that are brightly decorated go first,” said

Patti. “(The Cookie Walk) is a lot of talking and a lot of merriment. There’s a lot of energy in the room. There’s recorded holiday music playing. People are in a great mood. It’s just a buzz.”

Nearly 120 dozen cookies will be made available, donated by more than 100 St. Peter’s congregation bakers, their family members and friends. Members of local Scouting America Troop 84 will be on hand helping out where they can.

“We ask members of our congregation to bake a double batch of their best holiday cookies,” said Patti.

“Some older people in the community don’t want to bake themselves. People use them as gifts. Everyone has their reason for coming. It’s an event that’s worthwhile, and people can get some great Christmas spirit from attending.”

Organizers of St. Peter’s Cookie Walk are hoping to

SHADE TREE

raise $4,000 through the event. The proceeds will be wired to Busoka Lutheran Church and will be used to directly support and educate about 60 orphans currently being looked after by the Tanzanian church.

“(Busoka church officials) want to be able to educate (the orphans) and give them a start,” said Patti. “There’s a cost for orphans to go to school. It might go toward that, or it might go toward shoes or clothing. We’re very close to that church.”

Through an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America initiative, St. Peter’s and Busoka became companion congregations in 2006. Not long after, the Cookie Walk was conceived as a way to raise funds for Busoka’s mission, and since then the cookie extravaganza has raised more than a total of $75,000 for the orphans.

That’s a lot of dough!

“It’s neat to see the grassroots growth of it; it’s solidified in the community, and now there’s more awareness,” said Patti. “People want to be a part of it. It takes a village. It takes a village (in Tanzania), and while they’re taking care of orphans there, it takes a village for what we do. We have the community’s support.”
