Wanted: Kids Up For A Challenge 16th Annual Youth Triathlon Scheduled BY ANN MEAD ASH

ccording to Simon Ababou, fitness director with the Lititz recCenter, the annual youth triathlon he coordinates does more for children than just encourage them to get exercise. “(It helps them) to learn discipline and patience,” Ababou pointed out, adding that preparation and organization are also important to taking part. “You know it’s an accomplishment to finish that event,” he said. The 16th annual youth triathlon will be held at the rec center, 301 W. Maple St., Lititz, on Friday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. The triathlon is open to all area students between the ages of 5 and 12, including those living in neighboring boroughs. Check-in on the day of the event will begin at 3:45 p.m. Bicycle safety checks will be held from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. The event

generally concludes by 6 p.m. The rain date will be Friday, Oct. 14. Last year, 67 youths took part, but this year, Ababou hopes to see more participate. Youth participants will start the event with a swim in the indoor rec center pool, with the bike portion beginning in the Warwick Middle School parking lot. The run will be on the field behind the rec center. The event will be divided into age groups, with ages 5 and 6, 7 and 8, 9 and 10, and 11 and 12 grouped together. Children ages 5 and 6 will swim one length of the pool (25 yards), bike two laps, and run a quarter-mile. Those ages 7 and 8 will swim one length, bike three laps, and run a quarter-mile. Youngsters ages 9 and 10 will swim two lengths, bike four laps, and run a half-mile. Youths ages 11 and 12 will swim three lengths, bike five laps, and run three-quarters of a mile. Last year, about 100 vehicles were on display at Neffsville Nursing & Rehabilitation when the show moved from the Neffsville Community Park to the care facility on Lititz Pike. This year, Annette Kroeck, who handles admissions and marketing for the organization, hopes to see more cars, trucks, and motorcycles. “We have plenty of yard space,” she said. The ample grounds of the facility, which includes Neffsville Terrace, located at 2829 Lititz Pike,

After the 2021 Lititz Gala was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, Rebecca Branle, executive director of Venture Lititz, is looking forward to the 2022 Lititz Gala, which will have the same “Film Noir” theme as the previous year. The fundraiser will transform the Brownstone Manor atmosphere with décor that evokes thoughts of what Branle has called “smoky cinematic drama.” “There will be an air of mystery,” said Branle. “There will be vignettes set up that harken back 1940s film noir.”
