Baubles, Bangles, Beads, And More Friends Plan Seventh Jewelry Sale BY ANN MEAD ASH
ccording to Donna Hammond, a member of the Friends of the Lititz Public Library, not holding a jewelry sale since the advent of COVID-19 restrictions in 2020 has resulted in an interesting problem. “We can’t get the closet closed because it’s filled with boxes like this (of vintage and costume jewelry),” said Hammond with a chuckle. “People were at home and had time to go through their jewelry boxes, so we will have a fantastic selection,” she predicted. The 2022 sale, which will be the seventh fundraiser of its kind, will be held in the community room of the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, on Friday, Sept. 23, from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items will be nominally priced, but on Sept. 24 from noon to 2 p.m., all jewelry will be half price. The several thousand pieces of donated jewelry have been divided into a number of categories, including

chains and necklaces, pins, pierced earrings, clipped earrings, sets, regular necklaces, chunky necklaces, watches, rings, and crosses and other pieces of religious jewelry. A few quality pieces, which were spotted by a couple of the Friends volunteers while sorting the donations, have been sent to a jeweler in Lancaster to determine their value. Those pieces will be set aside on a special table and marked accordingly. Hammond mentioned that the group is thankful to the community for its generous donations. “We are getting a lot of estate jewelry,” she said, noting that many area residents have donated jewelry when they downsized or decided to refresh their current collection. “I have a friend who once a year goes through her jewelry box and gives us what she is tired of and then comes and buys new things from us,” she stated. All funds raised by the sale are donated to the Lititz Public Library to use wherever they are most needed. Jenn Rissler with Honor, the puppy she is raising as a volunteer for Phoenix Assistance Dogs
“He is a Goldador,” said Jenn Rissler, who is raising Honor, a four-month-old puppy for Phoenix Assistance Dogs (PAD). Honor, who is all black except for one white spot on his stomach, does not look much like a gold breed of anything, but Rissler is quick to pull up photos of Honor’s mom, a white golden retriever, and his dad, a black Labrador retriever. Rissler became a volunteer puppy raiser for PAD in January, when she received a dog that was soon deemed too fearful for assistance

Among them are local artists - in my case, a few of the artists who take part in the annual Landis Woods Outdoor Fine Art Show. work and released to become a pet. Her second dog, Colby, moved on to his next phase of training toward becoming a school facility dog in early August. “Children are (Colby’s) passion, and Linzey didn’t want to train that out of him,” explained Rissler. Linzey is Linzey Zoccola, who founded PAD in 2009. Zoccola believes it is important to match a dog’s personality to the type of work he will be doing in the future. Rissler has been working to train Honor since he came to live with the Rissler family at 13 weeks of age. He was housebroken within about three weeks of arrival. Basic See PAD pg 3
