There’s Something in the Water at Lititz Springs Pool BY JEFF FALK

N

ot sure exactly what it is, but people are naturally drawn to water. Maybe it’s the fact that up to 60% of the human body is made up of water. Rivers, lakes, streams, oceans, even pools. For more than 60 years, people have been drawn to the Lititz Springs Pool. “We want to offer a wonderful experience for members of our community,” said Corey Pickel, associate executive director of Lititz recCenter, which operates Lititz Springs Pool. “We really want to create an outdoor oasis on hot summer days. It can be enjoyable and relaxing to hang out in the water. It’s really a community gem. ... It has lots of space, and it’s a place for families and the community to come to.”

Situated on land owned by Lititz Borough at 201 Maple St., Lititz Springs Pool is actually an outdoor water facility made up of three pools - a 400,000-gallon main pool, a 70,000-gallon adult lap pool and a 4,000-gallon baby pool. The Lititz Springs Pool experience is enhanced by a waterpark playground, a slide, a 50-gallon dump bucket, 24 huge shade-producing umbrellas and grassy areas. The facility is also home to swim lessons, aquatics fitness classes and the Lititz Springs Wave Runners’ community swim team designed for competitors ages 5 to 18. There are also party pavilions available for rent there. The Lititz Springs Pool is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. - weather permitting - from early June to late August. ark Mueller and his wife, Jackie, took a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and turned it into an opportunity to help others. Jackie was diagnosed with MS in 1998, and the couple sought to treat the disease as naturally as possible, without medication. They experimented with nutrition and exercise to see what worked and what didn’t, and their research led to MS FitEffect, a free, 10-week program for people with MS. The next session will run from Saturday, Sept. 6, through Saturday, Nov. 15, at Elizabethtown Fitness Club, 626 S. Market St. “Each participant selects a time with their trainer for their private one-hour weekly session,” Mark

A World of Wonder Awaits Inside the Bookmobile

BY JEFF FALK

It ’s more than books on wheels. The Library System of Lancaster County’s (LSLC) bookmobile delivers knowledge, creativity, inspiration and joy. The bookmobile is kind of like a food truck serving up nourishment for the mind and soul. “Reading in general is very important,” said Audrey Lilley, the bookmobile’s driver, curator and full-time coordinator. “It’s important for kids to be reading. It’s important for them to

be able to pick up a book and see characters who look like them. Reading can be inspirational, and with retirees, it kind of comes full circle. I think retirees can find comfort in reading. For all people in between, it’s a way to relax and unwind.” W h e n n o t o n t h e g o to multiple locations all across Lancaster County, Lilley parks the bookmobile at LSLC’s main office at 1866 Colonial Village Lane, Suite 107, Lancaster. The Lititz Outdoor Fine Art Show has a long and storied history as an event in downtown Lititz. The next edition of the event might be the last one conducted at Lititz Springs Park. The Lititz Art Association (LAA), which sponsors the show, is hoping beyond hope that it won’t be the final Lititz Outdoor Fine Art Show ever. “The park (officials have) decided that large events like ours are too hard on the ecosystem of the park, and they want to limit that,” said Beth Kaylor Brunner, who’s been the president of the LAA for 10 years. “We want to keep it in Lititz because it’s so good for Lititz.
